History of Magic Lesson 3

It seems much cleaner down this end of the castle than it had been earlier in the term and Professor Glendower go up early today just to make sure her classroom was lesson ready. In fact, if you listen really closely you just might hear her humming to herself as she gets things ready for class to start.

Of course the familiar sign outside the door greets you as you arrive, but the inside of the room looks quite a bit different than what you might be used to as you walk inside. Instead of the desk-arm chairs, squishy bean-bag chairs are arranged circularly in the middle of the room. Off to the side is a table full of snacks - several varieties of elf-baked cookies as well as cups of hot chocolate and pumpkin juice. Professor Glendower is standing nearby, prompting you to help yourself before you take a seat for the last History of Magic class of term.

OOC - This class will be officially starting later today and will run through the next few days. My limited internet with moving the last week made it necessary to push the class back a little more towards the end of term and so there will be no homework, but it should be fun one ^_^

Annnnndddd... it was HoM time.

With as much enthusiasm as he could muster, Zeke entered the usual classroom only to found a not so usual set up. Okay then. Yep. Totally cool.............. maybe.

"Hello, Professor," Zeke greeted politely as he dropped his bag at a beanbag chair, effectively claiming it, before moving to get himself a snack of something. He wasn't one to turn down food in class when it was an opportunity so nicely presented.

FearlessLeader19 07-27-2015 02:41 PM

No doubt it was going to be another FUN History of Magic lesson. It never ceased to amaze Adi that Glendy could come up with cool ideas to make said lessons awesome. As he made his way to class, he did notice how much web- free the place seemed to be and was pleased about this.

Today, the sixth year opted for a regular entrance- simply walking through the door. "Helloooo, Professor!'' A cheery greeting for a cheerful lady. Oh looky! Snacks! "Thanks!'' No need to encourage him further. Adi grabbed a cookie or two and a cup of hot chocolate. Sugar overdose! Hehe.

And... beanbags! COOL! "Hi, Zeke!'' Would the Lion mind if Adi took a seat next to him? Figuring no, he set his cup down before flopping onto the beanbag beside Zeke's.

Henric walked into the class, his mind was too preoccupied with too much stuff in his head to notice anything else around him. He was emotionally drained after sending Princess toadette on her last voyage. He hadn't had enough sleep too and his eyes were noticeably red but he didn't care.Henric stopped directly in front of the professor before muttering a respectful greeting,"Hello professor...I hope you are doing well today," He gave her a small smile before turning around to face the rest of his classmates who were already seated around and helping themselves with different assorted snacks. Woah...what was the occassion today? He sighed, knowing he wouldn't be in the mood for any delicious snacks for sometime. His grieve for his beloved pet toad was still fresh on his mind. He spotted Adi among the group and waved to him a little. He should atleast try to blend in...he could do this..yes..he could...for Princess....

"Hi guys..." He then sat on a blue beanbag near Adi, not going to bother trying to shift away if Benny happened to see them seated close together. He loved the colour blue anyway and would claim this as his own, Princess would probably do too if she was alive....*sobs*..he missed her terribly already....

Janelle arrived fairly early for History of Magic class. That was good. She had her entrance prepared too and did a quick cartwheel as she entered the room. Once she was upright again, Janelle noticed that they had a different setup today. It made her curious. What could they possibly be doing that involved beanbag chairs? She loved those things.

The professor appeaed busy, but Janelle greeted her as she went toward a seat."Hello Professor Glendower", she said cheerfully. "Hello everyone", Janelle said to her classmates who had already arrivved. Adi got a special wave as the second year plopped down into one of the beanbag chairs. The chairs were waaaay too comfortable. That might not be a good thing in a classroom setting.

FearlessLeader19 07-27-2015 04:18 PM

Nomnomnom. Okay, so two cookies were NOT enough so the Hufflepuff bounded his wy over to the table to collect a few more. Good old Professor Glendy, taking care of he students like this. Just as he sat down, in came a sad Henny. Try as you might to hide it, Henny, Adi could see right past the smile. He set down his cookies, watching his friend intently. It had been recently they had said goodbye to Princess. Obviously Henric was still broken up over everything.

"Heya, Henny.''
It would make no sense asking the other guy how he was feeling. Adi rummaged through his bag to bring out three pumpkin pasties, neatly wrapped in tissue. It was a small gesture to help make his buddy feel better. "I don't think Professor Glendower would mind of you ate these now.'' The sixth year was saaaaaad for his friend. He picked up a cookie, noticing Janelle in the process. He returned the wave enthusiastically. Then his attention was back on Henric. Would he make it through the lesson?

Last History of Magic lesson for the year.

Last History of Magic lesson forever.

Yes, Zhenya was sad. Gloomy. It was very close to exams, which were on her mind, but very close to saying goodbye to all of the wonderful Professors, fellow students, surroundings and lessons.

There was no grand entrance, unless crying and rolling into a ball was one of them? No, perhaps not. Brave faced Zhenya entered the class, and smiled at some of her friends; Adi, Zeke and Jasmine. "Hello Professor," Zhenya said, a bit sadly. She gulped. Couldn't be last lesson could it?

Stormdancer 07-27-2015 06:10 PM

Professor and Zhenya

Marsha had sort of skipped to class. Not quite skipping, but not quite sadly walking either… She didn’t like that she was coming up to the end of her first year at school… where had the year gone? Why did she have to wait for ALL of the summer before she could be back and learning more? SIGH SIGH. Though, on the up side, when she came back Suri would be joining her! How cool. Hehe. Silently, she hoped that the brunette girl would be joining her in Gryffindor - but regardless, it would be AWESOME to have her here.

Moving into the classroom finally, Marsha grinned and waved at the Professor. ”Hi!” Moving to the large table she smiled as she picked up a rainbow cookie and a triple chocolate cookie and a hot chocloate before thanking the Professor and moving to sit down. She wasn’t sure where to sit, so she at next to one of the older girls who looked sad (Zhenya) and held out her hand that held the cookies. ”Would you like a cookie?” ‘Because you look sad’, went unsaid.

Felixir 07-27-2015 08:10 PM

apparently this is after the big scary spiders, yes?

No 'big entrances' from Toby today, nope. In fact, it was barely an entrance at all. IN FACT... it had almost been a non-existent entrance, because Tobias had been ultra-absorbed in his studying that he'd almost forgotten to go to class completely. Or maybe he was avoiding classes sort of possibly perhaps. It was easiest to just focus completely and utterly on the solo act of studying, really, and forget anything and everything else. He hadn't thought about what he was going to do once exams were over. In any case, he was here on account of remembering that this... would be his last every History of Magic class... and he was trying not to think too much about that either.

So yes, here he was, History of Magic textbook in hand because that was the book he'd been studying from earlier. He went to go and take his usual seat, but... different. The room was different. Toby blinked, then quietly took up one of the beanbags and totally bypassed the snacks. He nodded to Professor Glendower in greeting, managing a tiny smile, then settled down and opened up his textbook again. Not a second wasted when it came to studying, right?

MudInMyBlood 07-27-2015 09:33 PM

School's out for summer... almost. Yeah, she was going to miss her friends, but she had some pretty sweet summer plans that she was looking forward to. In her excitement, AJ took a running start and slid into the classroom on her knees. Ouch. Maybe that wasn't the greatest idea ever.

"Hello professor." And was that an assortment of sugary goodness? AJ walked over and grabbed several cookies. She decided on pumpkin juice to wash it all down with. MMM.

"Hey everyone." Yup, the greeting was for everybody seeing as she knew and liked them all. Deciding to sit closer to Marsha, AJ made her way over and plopped in a chair. The fourth year plopped a whole cookie in her mouth. Omnom.

Casey O 07-27-2015 09:39 PM

If Marigold had been more aware of her surroundings, she might've noticed that Toby looked the way she felt: tired, disoriented, and done with learning because studying had TAKEN OVER. So much. She felt like the inside of her brain, instead of being pinkish/grayish, had turned black with all the ink she had been rereading and scanning. UGH. Hopefully it would pay off, though - she did want to go to uni, after all.

"Hello, professor," she said, mustering up a smile.

Cassirin 07-28-2015 02:55 AM

Dot wasn't keen on making big splashy entrances, even if they were invited in this particular class, but she was always willing to drum up some spirit fingers and a dramatic curtsey for Professor Glendower before scurrying forward to find a seat.

"Good day, Professor. I hope we're going to do some dramatic arts today. Those are always really entertaining and informative." It wasn't sucking up if it was true, by the way.

emjay 07-28-2015 03:02 AM

Grabbing a cup of hot chocolate for herself as well as a chocolate chip cookie, Nessa took a seat in one of the beanbag chairs as she waited for her students to walk in. Everyone got cheery smiles and welcoming hellos, and some got appreciative applause from the professor for their creative entrances. She never did tire of that.

But it did not look like many would show today, though she could not say she blamed them for all that had been going on lately. Not that she condoned skipping class, she could just understand a little. Still, it was time to start whether more were coming in or not.

"Hello everyone! And welcome to our last History of Magic class!" Well, that was kind of sad, but Nessa didn't dwell on that for too long because she wanted to have an enjoyable lesson with her students. That was what all the cookies were about after all. And she gave Dot an extra big smile for her suggestion, even if they wouldn't be exactly doing anything dramatic today. Those were her favorite kinds of lessons too. "Please help yourself to some snacks if you haven't already. I thought for today we could have something of a fun and casual lesson, especially after all that's been going on lately. So just relax in your comfy seats for now."

She took a sip of her hot chocolate before continuing. "Let's start off with some stories. I'd like each of you to name a historical figure or event that has inspired you in some way, it can be anything as long as it made some sort of impact on you. Describe the person or event a little, and talk about what you might learn from that. I'll start -

"One of the first historical stories I learned about when I was young, was the story of Wendelin the Weird. Some of you might know her story.. She lived during a time where, sadly, some people were burned at the stake if they were thought to be using magic. But she knew about the flame-freezing charm which prevented any harm to come to her when she was burned at the stake. In fact, I believe that her overuse of the charm helped make it more widely known and maybe even saved some lives. I was always fascinated by her story, not only is it full of excitement and drama but she overcame adversity in a creative way."
And she was all about those things. "I think that is something really important and valuable to learn in one's own life - how to creatively tackle life's problems. In fact, it was one of my favorites to act out." But that was another story for another day.

"Okay, so I'd like us to go around the circle and have each of you talk about your favorite historical figure or event, and talk a little about why it's influenced you.. Use your textbooks if you need a reminder.." She would hope that everyone had at least one special story in mind, but if not, she wasn't opposed to someone glancing through their books.

Last History of Magic class...WOOT!

Not that Kate didn't enjoy this class or the awesome professor teaching it. Oh, no. She loved both. Last class, though, also meant SUMMER BREAK! Kate let her mind drift for a bit as she thought about the things she wanted to do over the summer. CLASS, though. She needed to be focused on class.

So who was her favorite figure? Or what was her favorite historical event?

Kate had an idea on this one! Raising her hand, she said, "Neville Longbottom stands out in my mind. During the last Battle of Hogwarts, he was one of the key people when it came to defeating Voldemort. I think his victory is extra special, because it just came out of nowhere. Nobody really expected Neville Longbottom to do anything that brave or heroic." It had been a story that always stuck out in her mind. It taught a really good lesson, too.

FearlessLeader19 07-28-2015 05:13 AM

Was it just him or did Zhenya look... sad? It had to be not just him for he just realised this was to be one of her final lessons. Now it was his turn to feel slightly depressed. He knew there would be persons missing him after next year but right now it was his turn to be in that position. He would miss that Slytherin girl like crazy. He smiled slightly to himself when he saw Marsha offer her a cookie. Adi tried to catch Zhenya's eye to give her one of his warm grins.
....................

Annnd Glendy was getting started! Excellent! Adi shot a look at Henric. You'd better pay attention, buddy boy. He hoped Glendower's lesson would be enough to distract Henric. If not... well, Adi would just have to find a way to cheer him up later.

While students started giving their narration of their historical figure or event, Adi calmly nommed on his cookie, shooting looks at Henric ever so often. He was thinking... thinking about words and how to say them so they made sense. He had opted to go for a historical figure.

When his turn came, the Hufflepuff raised his left hand, cookie still clutched in it which caused some crumbs to fall onto his head. Woops. Hehe. "My favourite historical figure is Newton Scamander.'' Any surprises there? NOPE! There shouldn't be. "His extensive work with magical creatures and research on them is what inspires me to be like him. Without his work, we would probably still be unaware about a lot of things about these creatures.'' Adi shook his still raised hand enthusiastically as he spoke of the man, causing more crumbs to tumble on him but he paid no attention to it right now. "Newt worked at the Ministry, got lots of promotions and authored books. He contributed a great deal to Magizoology.''

Sooooo, one could see why Adi adored the old dude. The two had a lot in common- Hufflepuff House, the magical creature love, they both had LOTS of ambition... Adi was a new version of Newt, yo. Anywho, he finally lowered his hand to pay attention to the crumbs. A silent Evanesco vanished them all.

Hera 07-28-2015 09:05 AM

Food, he WAS going to help himself to food, and so he did. Cookies! Cookies were suitable for lesson-time snaking. Zeke took one and held it in his mouth before stuffing another in his pocket - totally legit btw. After grabbing a drink too, he returned to his beanbag where Adi had taken up a spot beside him. PufferMan got a nod.

He munched on his cookie in silence as Professor Glendower spoke.

...

Uhhhh....

Umm.....

Did they have to do this?

He couldn't say he really... cared? Things happened, and he didn't remember the dates of any of them.

But then for the sake of participation he blurted out the first thing he could think of.

"Lord Voldemort."

Yeah. YEAH! Cause he was QUITE the historical figure, no?

"Not cause he killed a bunch of people and stuff, but because he was powerful enough to influence society for so long." Don't ask him how long, he didn't do dates! "And like, not only did he reign over everyone but after he fell, he made a return and that in itself is super impressive... perseverance and all." How did it influence him? He didn't feel he needed to say.

And then there were two; a young Lion. Zhenya smiled as she offered a cookie, and she took one, "Thanks, I'd love one," and nibbled on it.

"I'm Zhenya by the way," she said. Had they properly met before? Zhenya's brain was fried from all the study, and she couldn't quite remember.

Zhenya looked up, just before Professor Glendower approached the class, and saw Adi. He had plastered on his face an Adi grin, which made Zhenya smile. She offered him a small wave, still eating the cookie. She would have perhaps said hello, or asked how he was, but at that moment, it appeared that class has began.

And welcome to our last History of Magic class!

Zhenya had to blink a few times, and swallow the chunk of cookie in her mouth, harsh on her throat. Nope, no tears today Burton.

Zhenya felt quite relaxed, physically, in the chairs provided, and was glad to hear that they were having a more casual class. That sounded good, because Zhenya wasn't sure her mind could recite dates or events.

Zhenya had a think about a story she could share with the class, whilst continuing to nibble at her cookie. She knew the figure, he was in her mind, and she started to speak when it was her turn. "I admire, and am inspired by Damocles, who invented the Wolfsbane Potion. He was very smart and very dedicated to finding the correct formula to ease the suffering of the Werewolf, which is what I admire most. I hope that one day I can be as dedicated to finding a potion as helpful as that. But I also admire him for his contribution to society in general, by providing a tool to decrease the threat of werewolves."

Gabe didn't need to look through his book, even though he was doing so, anyway. Just to have something to do with his hands...since he was stressed and nervous about being in this classroom. Or any classrooms, really. Any and all classrooms.

Also, if his hands were busy, they weren't shaking.

Gabe had made a decision. School life wasn't suiting him, anymore. He was ready to graduate and be done with this entire situation.

"Paracelsus...who was an alchemist." Nervous page flip after nervous page flip. "He was a free thinker and made many discoveries that were for the betterment of our kind...and muggles, also...I think." Gabe paused and leaned back, resting his hands in his lap. "I plan to study the sciences and change the face of the world, too...Not because any one person did, like Paracelsus, but because of people like him...and knowing it's possible."

Awkward throat-clearing.

Kolyander 07-28-2015 01:00 PM

Hady had gotten to class and entered silently. Upon entering she did a full complete sweep of the room with her eyes taking in the small changes from chairs to beanbags (awesome change there she wouldn't complain about that) to the fact the room was cobweb free as well. That was what she wanted most! Letting out a small breath in relief she continued into the room giving Professor Glendower a small wave in greeting.

Pushing her bag up onto her shoulder she poured herself a cup of hot chocolate and took one cookie as well. A little bit of sugar couldn't hurt at all right now. Turning around another quick look around had her gaze fall upon her bestie and she grinned ever so slightly before making way to a beanbag close to him. Setting her bag at her feet Hady sat down and sipped her drink while listening quietly to the Professor.

However there was a problem. She had no clue which historical figure she wanted to speak of. There were TONS! Listening to those around her only Zeke's answer made her smirk a bit for she didn't expect anything else coming from him. Could they just skip over her please? At least until she was able to come up with something...

RandomRaven 07-28-2015 01:59 PM

Cookies and Hot chocolate. Hmm...

He was too busy eating some cookies and read on his notebook so he wasn't aware that the lesson was already start. By the time Professor Glendower spoke about the famous figure in wizarding history, the Korean boy still had cookies on his mouth and the crumbs were all on his desk. Oops, sorry Professor! He waved his wand to clean the crumbs and quickly sipped his hot chocolate.

ADSWEFREGTRG45!!!

Damn it, his tongue was burnt because of this very hot chocolate. "Sorry, Professor..." He said apologizing and then took his tumbler to gulp some water. Okay... "Personally I love Professor Dumbledore, the former Headmaster" He spoke up. "He's a great wizard and uh... Apparently he trusted that his students at the time were great in their own way, no judgement or things like that..."

Felixir 07-28-2015 02:02 PM

Tobias had taken to flipping the edge of the pages in his textbook while he read and waited for class to begin, but really, now he was in a room full of people he found it totally impossible to concentrate on any of the words. But still he tried.

Not for long, of course, because they were soon getting started. Toby looked up again from his book, but left it open in his lap, and looked to the professor as she started speaking. Truth be told, he did zone out for a while, as usual, but... he was still more or less following. There was an attempt.

So... a historical figure or event that... inspired him? Uhhh... well, that was pretty difficult, really. Toby didn't spend a whole lot of time thinking about wizarding history outside of his school studies. He'd always looked FORWARDS whenever he could, because in the past there was a whole lot of stuff he didn't like to think about.

As always, when Toby didn't quite know what to do, he defaulted back to the one thing he could always count on.

"The first recorded Quidditch game," he said when it was his turn, still fiddling with the pages of his textbook. Not that he needed it for reference for this particular answer. "At Queerditch Marsh. 'Cause I love Quidditch and all, and if there hadn't been a first game then we wouldn't have it around as a sport and I personally might not know what I was doing with my life and stuff. 'Cause Quidditch inspires me. 'Cause it's fun. And happy." Yes. Quidditch. Nice and safe. Not a single risk of thinking about any of the less happy things. And another thing that Toby liked to focus on. Perfect.

Symphora 07-28-2015 02:32 PM

"Hi Adi,"Henric replied. He fell silent once more and just watched the others happily gorged themselves on the snacks provided. He turned back to Adi when he saw him reaching for something in his bag. When Adi revealed the contents inside the neatly wrapped tissue paper, Henric's eyes instantly widened at the sight of his favourite food on his hands.

"It-Its that f-for me, Adi? No way...how you know I love these!"Henric's smile broadened even more at Adi's thoughtful gift for him."Thank you...man...I miss eating these...here, Adi..you should have one too,"he said, offering the rest of the pumpkin pastries to his friend. Adi was one of his few great friends he could count on whenever he was down with something. He hoped one day he could repay him back with the same kindness he received from him. He took a bite and his face brightened up a little. He grinned at Adi with his mouth full.

...........................................

Class was starting now and they were asked to recall prominent figures throughout the history. There were tons really...he couldn't pick one. Of course, one of them was definitely Harry Potter, the chosen one who defeated the powerful Dark Lord Voldermort at the age of seventeen. His friends and family were famous too for taking part in the battle of Hogwarts. Henric would love to answer the professor but he wasn't ready yet. He was still in his grieving mode...

Angel looked at the Professor and raised her hand. "Professor, I think Merlin was cool." Angel now had to figure about things. "I think he was a special adviser to a king because he was so amazing, I watch loads of programmes about him, though obviously the muggles didn't know anything about him being a wizard, though they guest."

Sipping her hot chocolate in between devouring large bites of cookie, Sophie wiggled in her bean bag chair and settled down in it beside Tobes. It was storyyyytime today, which was mega exciting, and Soph continued enjoying her cookies as she took in Glendower's own story, then the students that followed suit. Cute stories, the lot of them, and the sixth year finished up her cookie just before it was her turn, when Tobes was talking - and of COURSE his was about Quidditch. Especially endearing, his story was, and when he was finished, Soph offered up the first thing that came to mind that no one else had said.

"I kinda have two notable historical figures, not just one - former Hogwarts Headmistress Rae-Branxton and her best friend and Deputy Headmistress Anjelica Lainey. They were, like, connected at the hip 'n my parents have told me how they were such good leaders TOGETHER because of just how close they were and they played off each other's strengths to keep Hogwarts safe and secure and they were, like, Aurors together, too, and they're just two super powerful, brilliant women who did a lot for this school 'n the wizarding world at large." She took a brief sip of her hot chocolate, then, but continued on, "They've influenced me 'cause they're like the defiNITION of 'girl power' and if they can be some of the greatest leaders of all time, then I can, too. I wanna be super cool and important and make a difference in a big way they way they did."

Of course, professor or headmistress of the school had never been a career path she had considered... but they made the job look pretty appealing in a big way, didn't they? If she wanted to make a difference in the world and make waves in helping people and saving the world, being a leader at a super dangerous school like this sounded like a perfect fit. Heh.

MudInMyBlood 07-28-2015 09:00 PM

Everybody was coming up with super impressive things, and Santa Claus came to AJ's mind. What? He obviously wasn't real, thanks a lot mom, but the idea of him was pretty amazing. It shows that the mind is a powerful thing. She couldn't say that though. No. She needed a mature fifteen year old appropriate answer. Ha. We would see how long this mature thing lasted.

AJ shoved another cookie in her mouth as she bought some extra time? Ugh. Her mind was completely blank. Ummmm... Another cookie went in. At this point all she was accomplishing was adding way too many calories to her diet. Not that, that sort of thing really mattered to her.

Oh. She had something. Perfect timing too because it was her turn. Okay. The last bit of cookie pieces had been swallowed and a quick throat clearing session happened. She was ready. "Godric Gryffindor. I guess really all of the founders. They were brilliant witches and wizards. I especially like how three of the founders stood up to Salazar for what they felt was the right thing. It's influential to me because it shows that you can do the right thing even if it means losing a friend or making somebody mad." That actually sounded kind of lame out loud. AJ wasn't the poster child for making the right choices.

She was shutting up now. Another cookie was forced in just in case. Nope. She didn't have a thing else to add.

So they had to talk about their favorite historical person or event. Janelle had a few of them, but if she had to choose one to talk about........she knew who it would be. When her turn came, Janelle explained her choice,

"Hermione Granger is someone I admire. She was brilliant and and used her smarts to solve the problems she faced. She helped Harry Potter to defeat Lord Voldemort. I like her because knowing all of the things she did at such a young age, makes me feel like I can accomplish anything." You know. Girl Power and all that.

Dot wiggled in her bean bag chair until she finally got comfortable, although she wished that she'd been clever enough to get a snack before sinking deep into this chair abyss. It was practically eating her alive, y'know?

It was nice to hear people's stories... did they know it told more about them than they realized? What they shared, what they chose to share, what they hid... it was interesting. A story of its own.

When it was her turn, Dot wiggled again before speaking. "When I was a little girl, my mum and I shared a chocolate frog and the card was Cliodna. She said that was me... Queen of the Banshees, on account of I was always being a little too noisy. But I kept that card, and I liked the idea of being Cliodna. She was an animagus and a Potions Mistress, and she was clever and famous in a time when women were... not very well thought of. I just like her, and I like thinking about how one person can be lots of different things."

Casey O 07-29-2015 03:43 AM

Marigold scrunched her nose up as she thought of someone who inspired her or something along those lines. She knew like…a GAZILLION witches' and wizards' stories by heart by now, after studying so much, but….it was hard to find someone that SPOKE to her, y'know?

Finally she concentrated on a story that her dad constantly reminded her of as a kid, when she would beg to talk about Harry Potter and all the stuff he did after the war.

"Narcissa Malfoy was a pretty cool case because she worked for Voldemort but THEN she actually helped save Harry Potter, in a way. And I think that's important because it shows you that sometimes people are deeper than they appear."

BLEARGHEA:RHEL. Incoherent thoughts just came out of her mouth. Blargh.

Eden was tiiiiired. NEWT preparation was killing the seventh year, as was her intense desire to be home with her family. She was exhausted and it was very apparent; dark circles had painted themselves under her eyes.

Her hair was a mess.

What was this? A class? What?

Too drained, too tired for this nonsense. She saw Gabriel immediately and plonked her bum next to him, leaning forward and resting her head on the table.

Merlin.

She was dozing in just a few seconds.

Okay Zander had no idea who this Weird bloke was, but he took note of the name just so he could possibly try to figure it out later. Or not. On second thought, he'd just leave that for last minute NEWT studying. Seemed to work out well for OWLs. He was willing to risk it again to be honest. Maybe the same wouldn't work for Charms and DADA. But history, eh he could wing it. Probably.

As for a historical figure that he could talk about... His hand shot up with the first name racing to his mind being Neville Longbottom. But once that first girl mentioned his name, Zander quickly lowered his hand. Man. He needed to work on this getting called first thing. Always hard to answer a question when you literally only know one answer. Anyways.

Someone else mentioned a chocolate frog card, which definitely sparked an idea in his head. 'Cause Zander had loads of those and he knew just exactly what each of them said. When you pride yourself on being a collector, you've got to be at least somewhat of an expert on them, right? Well, somewhat. "Alberic Grunnion is a pretty cool bloke, he invented the dungbomb." Technically not Zander's favorite historical figure, but then again... Zander didn't have many of those. "He's pretty influential in my life 'cause without him, I'd probably never be able to get my brother's back." And cue the goofy smile.

Also Zander had about five of his cards. Just saying. If anyone is up for a trade. He'll be around all week.

Nobody really expected Neville Longbottom to do anything that brave or heroic." It had been a story that always stuck out in her mind. It taught a really good lesson, too.

Oh, what a wonderful first choice. Nessa smiled widely at Kate and nodded. "Sometimes great things come from those we least expect. And sometimes it takes a defining moment to show who we really are inside. I think he was very brave and heroic myself." And that was not always an easy thing to be.

Hmm, that was an interesting choice and Nessa listened intently to Adi as he explained. "I think Newt Scamander is a wonderful person to be inspired by, especially if you are thinking about studying magizoology." Is that what Adi's intended field of study after Hogwarts was? It sounded vaguely familiar as if she should remember that. "He really was very accomplished and important in that area."

Yeah.

Oh? Nessa was rather surprised by that answer and remained silent as she listened to Zeke further explain. "He was quite the notorious figure," she murmured, still thinking over his answer. "Perseverance is always a very strong character trait, one to be admired.." But really, he couldn't find a more respectable figure to look up to who was also noted for their perseverance? "Though I'm not sure most of what he is known for is all that admirable." Kind of disturbing, really.

She listened to Zhenya next as she contemplated taking another cookie for herself. Maybe once everyone had a turn to speak. "Well, I think that's wonderful, Zhenya, to want to contribute to society in such an impacting way," she said, giving her a bright smile. She wondered exactly what she hoped to achieve. "It seemed not only was he quite intelligent but also a great humanitarian to help the plight of the afflicted." Such admirable traits.

"I plan to study the sciences and change the face of the world, too...Not because any one person did, like Paracelsus, but because of people like him...and knowing it's possible."

Nessa finished off the last of her hot chocolate and set the cup down on the floor before turning her eyes to Gabriel as he was the next to speak. "That sounds very inspiring, Gabriel," she smiled at him approvingly. "I think it's good to look up to someone that has done great things along the same lines you want to do, especially for knowing that it can be possible to do those same things."

Listening to those around her only Zeke's answer made her smirk a bit for she didn't expect anything else coming from him. Could they just skip over her please? At least until she was able to come up with something...

Her eyes next fell on Hady as she was next in the circle and Nessa waited for her to speak. And waited, as it seemed she wasn't going to offer anything at all. Nessa found this a bit unusual as they really could have named anyone at all throughout history, in fact she even said they could use their books. She would have an awfully hard time with the activity if she simply couldn't name anyone. Nessa frowned a bit before looking at the next student as he seemed to notice the awkward silence and spoke up.

Apparently he trusted that his students at the time were great in their own way, no judgement or things like that..."

Nessa smiled softly and shook her head. No need to apologize. Listening as the boy offered a description to his answer, she nodded a bit. "He was a very great wizard.. and I like your interpretation of him - trusting the greatness in others without judgement. Do you aspire to be like him or do you just appreciate that everyone has the potential for greatness inside of them as he knew to be true?" Because he didn't really say and she would like to know why and how they were inspired as well.

And another thing that Toby liked to focus on. Perfect.

Oh she knew Toby was all about Quidditch from getting to know him in class the past few years so his answer was not too surprising to Nessa. The sport still wasn't her thing no matter how hard she had tried to understand it, but she knew it was important to many and that was what mattered. "It's great to have something that you love to be very inspiring to you," she said, giving him a bright smile. "I'm sure the game has inspired many and they are thankful for the first game as well." Namely professional players, though she knew the game gave pleasure to many a spectator as well. And she couldn't help but to wonder if Toby had intentions on playing professionally when he was finished with school.

His friends and family were famous too for taking part in the battle of Hogwarts. Henric would love to answer the professor but he wasn't ready yet. He was still in his grieving mode...

Again another silent student. Nessa got that there really had been a lot going on lately, but that was the entire reason she decided on an easy, relaxing class today. But that did not mean that she was doing all the talking and there would be no student participation, or else she would have canceled class altogether. This really wasn't a difficult question at all. She'd have to say that she was a little disappointed that some of them simply refused.

Nessa shifted her eyes towards Angel as her raised hand saved them from any further awkward silence. "Merlin was a great wizard, yes," she nodded. Nessa might have squealed just a tiny bit when Sophie gave her answer. She totes knew those two in person! "Mrs. Rae-Branxton was my Headmistress! And Professor Lainey was one of my teachers too!" Her History of Magic professor for a few years in fact, and she would very much agree that those two women were inspiring. "I think that's wonderful that you found such strong role models to look up to. They were great leaders together." Their friendship reminded her of her own friendship with Cassie, even if they did not fill the same roles.

AJ wasn't the poster child for making the right choices.

Nessa listened to Aubrey's answer with a soft smile, nodding gently as she finished speaking. "Sometimes it is very difficult to stand up for what you believe in and to do the right thing. But often it is very important." She felt those kinds of people were really good role models.

Nessa nodded a bit as Janelle spoke of the historical figure she most admired. "I think she is another great role model for young women, well for anyone really. I think she was very intelligent and resourceful as well as very brave." Admirable traits in anyone and that many people could inspire to be.

Hmm, Nessa wasn't completely sure that she would agree with Marigold's answer, but she supposed that was alright. People were allowed to have differences of opinion. "Sometimes it is very hard to go against someone very powerful to do what is right." But Nessa had thought that Mrs. Malfoy's motives were a little more selfish than that, though it did all work out in the end.

Um, ok, that was interesting. Nessa wasn't sure if he was completely serious or just searching for an answer. "An inventor, and one whose products you enjoy, is not a bad influential figure. Perhaps it would inspire you to invent something someone finds useful one day?" But she was a little surprised he did not name someone a little more inspiring, especially after some of the other answers given.

Once everyone had a chance to speak, Nessa got up to get another cookie for herself before taking a seat in her beanbag chair again. "Those are some very interesting and influential figures and events. I really enjoyed hearing your stories. They were quite inspirational and I think they tell something about yourself to have chosen who or what you did to tell the class." And that always interested her to see a glimpse of unique personalities.

"One more time around the circle before we move on today," she said, her eyes moving around to each of them. "This time, I'd like you to think of a person in your life who is very inspirational to you. Perhaps someone you look up to, and tell us why. I hope you are all having a good time exploring your personal history for our term project and this relates a little back to that. This person might not be as famous as someone you mentioned earlier, but they are still every bit as important to your personal history, and in some cases maybe even more so.

"One of the people most influential in my life is my mother. She had such a love for the theater and the dramatic arts that she wanted a career in that field. She didn't always get the parts or jobs that she wanted, but she never gave up even if someone made her feel discouraged. She instilled a lot of perseverance in me and a strong work ethic. She taught me that even the supporting roles are important, without them the show cannot go on - and that can be meant in a figurative sense as well as a literal one."
And now it was their turn. She looked to the student on her left and nodded for them to begin.

Casey O 07-29-2015 10:54 PM

An inspirational person in HER life? Sophie Brown and EDEN AND GABE AND RUBY AND ZAHRA AND ASDFGHJKL. So MANY FRIENDS. So many. She was surprised she could actually remember all their names, she was so tired, to be honest. Her stream of consciousness was not making grammatical sense. Argh.

"Um, she used to go here…Elodie Robertser? She was the Hufflepuff female prefect before me…she gave me lots of advice. ALSO, all of THE DEAD KNEAZLES…because their songs mean a lot to me. And all my friends and peers, who are like my family."

A TDK song was stuck in her head now.

Govoni 07-30-2015 12:05 AM

Giving Eden a curious look, since she didn't look (at all) like herself, Gabe leaned over and nudged her shoulder. A few times. He was sluggish himself, but that would never interfere with his studies...NEWTs WERE COMING.

/eye twitch

.

.

....Not for nothing, but this was starting to make Gabe feel uncomfortable. No, he didn't really understand why...but...yea, the discomfort was there. It just felt too personal to be talking about 'inspiration' in a room full of his peers, most of which he didn't know or trust...but he answered, anyway. The answer was, of course, accompanied by more fidgeting.

"Professor Culloden. I never thought I enjoyed Potions, as a study, until I sat in his lessons. I knew that I understood the ingredients and their properties, and what they could formulate together...but he's the reason I've considered taking further."

Cassirin 07-30-2015 12:31 AM

Dot was trying not to be judgy about who people chose as their inspiration. Merlin knew that some people were inspired by rocks and trees, while other people never got inspired at all (those people were very boring). She suspected that a load of people were going to say a parent, since the professor had, so she was fully prepared to judge THOSE people.

But then Gabe said a professor. Even Cool Guy Culloden was a professor, and that was a way more lame answer than a parent. He got a polite nose wrinkle for his trouble. Dude wasn't even HERE to give away points for that sucking up.

FINALLY it was her turn, and Dot did the settling wiggle again before speaking up. "I bet this super duper talented fashion designer called Pensacola Morgan-Bott, and she's got a really keen sense of color and lines and I think she's very interesting because she's built her own fashion line from scratch, basically. And anyway, when I met her, she admired something I did, and it made me feel..." She tilted her head back and forth. "Creative and BIG, like I could do anything I set myself up to do. I always remember when I think I'm rubbish at something that she said I was good."

Daydreamer11 07-30-2015 02:29 AM

Janelle nodded as Professor Glendower added her thoughts about Hermione Granger. They were definitely in agreement about Miss Granger's positive qualities. Janelle also enjoyed listening to what her classmates had to say. Their choices were varied and very interesting. Then it was time for another question. Thinking back to her personal history, Janelle knew exactly what she would say.

When it was her turn, Janelle began to speak. "Someone who is very inspirational to me is my sister Jasmine. She is everything I want to be. She is smart, kind, caring, a very hard worker and she always tries to do her best at everything she does. She sets a good example for me, even when she's not tying to." Yes, her big sister was a hard act to follow, but she inspired Janelle to be the best person she could possibly be. "She encourages me and makes me feel like i can do anything I set my mind to. I know she will always have my back."

"That's MY sister-in-law," in case anyone was wondering. Zahra puffed up proudly. "She keeps Pig for me a lot."

Zahra wasn't loving this sharing circle stuff. This WAS her favorite class though, and probably her last with her favorite professor, so Z was here.... bearing through it.

"Professor I want to say you, because you've let me be ME where lots of other professors around here just haven't. So you know... thanks for that. But I'm not picking you, just throwing that out there. That'd be a total suck-up thing to do. You let me be a seagull in a skit about a dragon and I'll never forget it is all I'm saying."

But right. Zahra was picking.... her dad? Mum? Brothers? Her Mikey?

"You're gonna think this is totes weird, but.... I mean, shout out to my family for being the bee's knees and all that junk, and I have Mikey Toussaint who beats all you twerps from here til Sunday forever. But I'm going with Ruby. She's taught me a lot of junk no one else could have, like about hemlines and shoes and looks and junk."

feeheeheeny 07-30-2015 03:27 AM

Ha, it was WAY cool that Glendower knew Rae-Branxton and Lainey and thought highly of them, TOO. Sophie was mega jealous that the professor actually got to know them for real, though, and the envy clearly shone in her chestnut eyes. SOOOO JEALOUS. "That's super cool, professor. I'm kinda sorta related to Rae-Branxton, 'cause my cousin is married to her daughter. I've never properly met her, though, 'cause I always get super nervous when I've gotten the opportunity. Luckily her son is one of my best friends in the whole world so when he gets married this summer I'm gonna be PREPARED this time and I'll get to tell her how inspirational she is. I'll tell her you said hi."

Super nice of her.

Settling back down into the bean bag chair, Sophie worked on finishing off her hot chocolate as others spoke and gave their answers, too. Hermione Granger was another good one, someone Soph was relieved someone else said because she was definitely worth noting, and Janelle got encouraging nods to her statement. VERY GOOD, JANELLE.

At the professor's next question... a few people came to mind instantly: her mum, Tobes, Culloden, Ira Banner, Flamsteed... but Ira Banner wasn't super actively in her life, and she didn't want to say her mum and copy the professor. That narrowed it down to Tobes and two professors, one of whom her co-prefect said. So... Culloden was out of the question. Flamsteed inspired her in many ways, but how super uncomfortable would he have been if he found out she talked about him in class like this? Probably a whole lot, and he'd probably laugh uncomfortably and make a lame joke about how sucking up wouldn't get her extra points or anything and reassure her that she didn't ever need to butter him up. Even though... that wasn't her intention at all.

So, clearly, the only route here was to embarrass Tobes right on the spot, and she BEAMED when it was her turn. "My best friend Tobes - Tobias Fuller-Thompson here," she patted her best friend's shoulder beside her, "- is someone in my life who's super inspirational to me. I mean, a LOT of people inspire me," she looked to boyfriend!Zander to let him know she meant him, too, "but Tobes has inspired me since the day I met him back in my second year. He's compassionate and smart and loves everyone and sees the best in everyone and he never has a bad word to say about anyone either. I look up to him 'cause he's got the best heart of anyone I know. He makes me wanna be better like him. Everyone should wanna be like him, really."

But they probably already realized that because EVERYONE knew how much of a gem Tobias Fuller-Thompson was. He was awful at hiding that golden heart of his.

ArianaBlack 07-30-2015 03:52 AM

So errrrr... It didn't seem like Glendower was too fond of his answer.

BUT PROFESSOR, HE DIDN'T WANT TO BE A REPEAT!!!!! OKAY!?!?!

Plus the inventor of the dungbomb was PLENTY inspirational. Not for what Professor Glendower said about inspiring Zander to be an inventor one day, but the kid just nodded 'cause hopefully that'd lower his Professor's concern levels. Which looked like they were flying through the roof at this point. So ahem. Sure. Sure Zander thought the guy was inspirational in the sense of being an inventor.... That's it.

Also Zahra's answer was so Zahra. Typical. Only a few more weeks. Just had to keep reminding himself. A few more weeks and he'd never have to hear her ridiculous answers ever again. Actually, wait no, this one was seminormal. Huh. Weird.

As for his next answer though. This one was TRICKY. And super deep. Merlin, Zander thought he was showing up to History of Magic today, not history of your mind and all the deepest secrets you hold dear to you. Actually no that would be a ridiculous name for a class. So history it is. Anyways.

He COULD talk about Sophie Brown, but that'd involve embarrassing himself in front of everyone and also Sophie Brown. So maybe not. Had she been absent though, a very strong possibility that she'd be brought up. His next thought went straight to Flammy. But speaking about a Professor that possibly hated him ever since tidal wives and stuff, that wasn't gonna happen. Not today at least. Then there was Professor Q who was pretty inspirational as a whole, but the guy was a downright jerk so no thank you.

Which left him with two. Well two plus Beautiful Bentley who for pride and dignity's sake, he would not mention outloud ever again. So back to the two. He couldn't just pick one inspirational person in his life. He could hardly even pick one thing to eat for breakfast! This is BLASPHEMY. So he was going to have to answers, okay?

"Well, I've got to say two names 'cause I can't just pick one person when I've been influenced by loads of them," was this allowed? Talking about two people? Because Zander was going to do it anyways. Quick someone award him with the 'Most likely to be sent to Azkaban' superlative because we've got a rebel sitting right here. YUP. Oooooh so much troublemaking. Much rebellious. Ahem. Moving on. Two people, that's where he's at.. Yeaaah. "Firstly Kevin Hirase 'cause he taught me loads about confidence and standing up for what is right... Well, for what you think is right," that boy had some questionable decisions in his past. Ahem. Clearly. "But also Lottie--Lotus Wisteria-- she graduated a few terms ago, but she always has the best advice. And whenever I'm freaking out about something or another, she's always the one I turn to for a voice of reason. I'd basically be a lost puppy without her," oh Zander, if only you knew that you are still very much a lost puppy. Sigh. Anyways.

That was a lot to write. And now we slump back and listen to everyone else because that is how the classroom thing goes. Yup. Ah, sixth year. What a routine.

FearlessLeader19 07-30-2015 04:52 AM

Very interesting indeed. No surprise there that Gabe admired some brainy person. Hehe. Adi listened with interest to the remaining students then back to Professor Glendy. What an easy question the next one was! He had already written an entry in is Personal Journal thingy about this very one.

When it was his turn again, the sixth year raised his hand. This time he had no cookie clutched in it to drop crumbs anywhere. "My bestie Benny. He's inspirational because he's usually so level headed and calm...'' 'Normally' was used there because Adi was still remembering that little even very clearly where Benny had gotten all jealous of Henric. "He's a great friend, always there for me and his other friends. He's very hard working also with completing all his homework on time, studying for exams and what not.'' Quite unlike Adi who took a year to do anything involving books. ''If I ever need to talk about something, he's my go- to guy. Benny's just the best bestie a guy could ask for. '' Yep, yep.

That being said, Adi dropped his hand then went back to nomming on his cookies and keeping an eye on Henric.

....Not for nothing, but this was starting to make Gabe feel uncomfortable.

Eden was jolted awake by Gabriel, whom she raised an eyebrow at in an annoyed way, but sat up nonetheless and yawned....she covered her mouth, of course, and tried to remain quiet. Loud yawns were supposedly rude...supposedly.

Inspirations.

She had no idea. Mph. But she raised her hand--

"My cousin's wife...she's my inspiration, because she's the Enviro head at the ministry and she had to work really hard to get where she is today and she's just the best and she's a genius at like...everything and I admire her ability to put up with men really well, because sometimes men, and my cousin, really suck."

Ahem.

Could Professor Glendower TELL Eden was suffering from some..."I am SO done with school" -itis?

Symphora 07-30-2015 07:04 AM

The professor seemed to be looking at him strangely, as if she was expecting him to participate in the discussion but look disappointed when he did not. Henric sighed, it wasn't intentional. Maybe he should try and participate the next time she asked a question...

Someone inspirational? Definitely his adoptive parents who raised him up like their own son but he was a little reluctant to say this in front of the class. The professor would know soon about his life story after he handed in his history journal right? So it wouldn't be a secret no more. Besides he told Kace...he trusted the older Hufflepuff, he was the only one in the school he had told so far. Henric made an effort to raise up his hand when his turn came up,"Professor, my...dad...is an inspiration to me because he is a wonderful cook and a supportive father anybody could ask for. He is a hardworking man, always grateful with whatever we have, humble and a great listener to all. He is always out to help others with a heart of gold. He taught me many things about life which I'm grateful for. He is truly amazing. You can say that he is my hero,"his cheeks flushed a light pink when he said this about his dad.

Weasley174 07-30-2015 11:13 AM

Angel looked at the Professor as she spoke and asked her why she liked Merlin, she thought that she had said but maybe she had been mistaken. "Professor it's the way he was able to juggle being the kings special advisor and being a wizard without anyone guessing he was, that position was a very important position and in them days the muggles hated witches and wizards and so if he had been caught a lot of bad things would have happened to him but he went and got on with his duty even with the risks." Angel stopped there.

Angel took a few breaths whilst waiting for the next question, once she heard it she looked around the room, now she loved both her sisters and they both were amazing and inspired her and so did Benny, why was this question so hard but she wanted to be an explorer when she was older and her father was a tourist guide. "Professor my father inspires me, he's a tourist guide and when I'm older I want to be an explorer of plants and go all around the world exploring them." Angel smiled as she looked at the professor.

Oh, what a wonderful first choice. Nessa smiled widely at Kate and nodded. "Sometimes great things come from those we least expect. And sometimes it takes a defining moment to show who we really are inside. I think he was very brave and heroic myself." And that was not always an easy thing to be.

[OOC - There are no desks, they are in beanbag chairs. =)]

"But what about him did you think was cool or amazing?" The question wasn't simply meant for them to answer who they liked, but she wanted them to explore why and how they were influenced as well.

Nessa couldn't help but to smile at Charlotte's answer. Though she was sure her mother had been joking at the time or maybe had been a little stressed at the time that she said that, she found it interesting that it still resonated with the girl. "I like Cliodna," she said with a smile. "Some think that the birds she kept were fwoopers." And having one of her own, she could relate. "And I do very much like your thoughts about people being multi-faceted. We are often more than just what one person sees."

[OOC - There are no tables, they are in beanbag chairs. =)]

Nessa looked up as someone walked in as they were in the middle of class. Goodness, the girl looked to be a disoriented mess. She watched her with concern, then gave her a small smile. "Thank you for joining us, Miss McGee. We are discussing who inspires us from history. Take a minute to get a snack then I'd appreciate a contribution from you as well." She might do well with the hot chocolate as there was a little caffeine in it.

"Reemus Lupin," Sapphire thought to herself when Professor Glendower asked her first question. But she got too distracted by the yummy hot chocolate she was drinking to share her answer. She helped herself to another cup as she listened to the professor speak again.

This time, Phi raised her hand before taking a sip. "I'd choose my brother, professor," she said. "My parents are amazing of course. They inspire me so much, but I choose my brother Peridot - Peri - because he loves the oceans and the environment so much that he chose to study in both Wizard and Muggle universities. He wanted to gain perspective and knowledge from both sources, which I think requires a lot of energy and dedication and patience. I'm not a Ravenclaw like he was, but I'd like to find something I'm passionate about and work my best for it - just like he does. I think the Ministry is lucky to have him work there."

RandomRaven 07-30-2015 12:37 PM

Do you aspire to be like him or do you just appreciate that everyone has the potential for greatness inside of them as he knew to be true?

Aspire to be like him? To be honest, he wasn't sure. Well, Dumbledore was a great wizard and a great headmaster while he... is Jackson and he just didn't have a passion to be a headmaster like him. "I uh.... I just admire him." The Korean guy responded to Glendower. Then he sipped his hot chocolate again, thankfully it's not that hot anymore. And now he tried to focus back on the lesson. An influential person? Hmmm... It's quite hard for him. "I had a piano tutor when I was young, her name is Lee Sora and I think she's one of the most influential person for me because she is very nice and humble though her piano skills is great. She was still a student when she tutored me and now she is very famous in Korea. I met her once last year and she still remembers me." Maybe not as cool as the others but.. Hey, his piano tutor was great.

She would have an awfully hard time with the activity if she simply couldn't name anyone. Nessa frowned a bit before looking at the next student as he seemed to notice the awkward silence and spoke up.

Yeah she'd messed up. Hady knew she had the moment she didn't say anything. Professor Glendower's frown only served to further prove that point for her. What could she do though? Off of the top of her head she couldn't think of anyone and skimming through her textbook to select some random person didn't feel right to her. Therefore she quiet and waited for the next person to speak.

Sitting quietly while sipping her hot chocolate slowly Hady listened to everyone's answers. Some were quite good ones with decent reasons as well. Maybe she should've said something. Anything. Oh well, it was to late for that now.

SPOILER!!: Professor Glendower
"One more time around the circle before we move on today," she said, her eyes moving around to each of them. It was only moments before the next question was asked. This she had an answer for. And so it seemed the last few mates before her had the some thought she did. Well alright then. Nothing wrong with that really. When her turn came around once more she gave her answer, "It would have to be my father Professor. He's always honest with me even when he knows I won't like what he has to say. Everything I've learned up until I came here I learned from him. Most important though is no matter what life tosses his way he can always make things work and pushes through...I respect him for that. Plus he keeps his promises too which never hurts either." Mhmm her father was great. Both of them. Clearly she wasn't exact on which 'father' she was speaking of but no one needed to know and surely no one would ask because most didn't know he wasn't her real dad anyhow. So uh yeah... the next person could answer now.

....

She didn't seem thrilled with his response. OH WELL. He never said anything about Voldemort being 'admirable' in the traditional sense. He was more going for powerful and influential. The dude had a HUGE sphere of influence after all.

He only half listened as his peers gave their responses, and he noted that Hady remained silent on the matter.

Hhhmmm.

The second question was one that he answered before, he was sure it had been for this class, though he supposed it might have been for another. Either way, he had written about it for his project already, and there was no need to ponder such a thing anyway.

When his turn came he supplied his response. Like many others, his was family too.

"The biggest influence on me is my mum... my adopted mum that is. She accepted me for who I was and taught me to be myself, she defended and protected me and I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for her."

He didn't need to say anything more, it was a personal thing, something he didn't think everyone needed to know.

Felixir 07-30-2015 01:52 PM

See, the problem was that as soon as Glendower told them to think about someone inspirational to them, Toby immediately thought of TWO people. And then another. And then a few more. And then LOADS more, until he realised that he couldn't possibly think of just ONE person to say without playing favourites, when really EVERYONE inspired him.

Even if he just stuck to the first few people that sprung to mind, there was no way he could really pick ONE. And if he said both or all three that just left out everyone else and that wasn't FAIR. Toby sat there thinking hard about how to answer as person after person gave their own input, trying to work out what he was gonna say, and then...

And THEN, SOPHIE BROWN happened.

As soon as Toby realised what she'd said, he sort of froze, staring straight at the textbook in his lap. Then just... caaaaasually started sinking down lower and lower in his beanbag chair. It wasn't that what she was saying wasn't true - honestly, a lot of it was, because he did see the good in people and tried his best never to talk bad about anyone but. It felt weird to hear it out loud, and he so wanted to talk over her and insist it wasn't true but that would be RUDE and they WERE in a classroom and he wasn't about to interrupt a classmate's answer. But... Merlin. No, nobody should want to be like him. Noooooooooo. Self esteem says nope.

Still... he appreciated the kind words from Soph, even though he wanted to outright deny them, and were it not for the fact that his turn was suddenly NEXT and Toby was all kinds of flustered about it, he might have flashed her a little smile. And a look that told her he was gonna get her back for that. Thank MERLIN he wasn't usually the type to blush.

Anyway, his go. Uhhh. UHHHH. UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

"My, uh... my p-parents," Toby blurted out, glancing up at Glendower, 'cause he knew that she knew who they were and everything, Piers and Javy. "My dads, I mean. They, uh, they've done a lot for me, adopted me and everything. And, I dunno, I guess, they're sorta my... sortamywholeworldandstuff. My grandma too. I don't think I can really... well... put into, uh, well... words. Yeah." There was a pause, and then... "And also... ahh... actually, well... I think.... Well. Everyone, really. To be honest, y'know?" Flustered. Very flustered. And blaming YOU, SOPHIE BROWN. Even though it probably would have happened anyway, on account of him being so private and personal and all the things. "Everyone inspires me, really actually. Everyone I know or've met or whatever, there's... there's always, uh, something, y'know? Something inspiring. About, um... anyone. Everyone." Ahem. Yeah.

Oh, and Soph was getting side-eyed right now. Oh yes. She better be on her guard because there was a tickling charm with her name all over it.

MudInMyBlood 07-30-2015 04:38 PM

Just as she was about to gush about her dad being an inspiration to her, Angel beat her to it. Erm. What? Since when? Yeah, she knew about the plant thing, but the whole dad thing was news to her. Well then. AJ couldn't exactly say the same thing. Well, she technically could but that would be lame. In fact she had even wrote about him in her journal. That's where it counted.

Who else? Who else?

There were tons of great people, but who really got to her? Who made her want to be a better person? Her dad. No. She couldn't use that. Hmm... Her mom was pretty cool too, but she felt like they were so different. Oh. She had it. "My grandpa, professor. He is who he is regardless of what anybody else thinks. He's never changed just to appease someone else." You gotta admire someone like that.

emjay 07-30-2015 10:57 PM

Just as she expected, the class named a lot of inspirational people in their lives. Many of them of course were family members or teachers as she figured they might be, though she didn't really expect her own name to be called out, even if she wasn't being specifically picked. Nessa did love Zahra's creativity in this class and she would certainly miss it.

"Those are all wonderfully inspiring people to have to look up to and I think it's great that they are a part of your lives. But do they know how inspirational or influential they are to you?" Many times people did not know they made as much of an impact on other people as they did. And sometimes it was just nice to know.

"Today, I'd like you to create a gesture for someone who is an inspiration to you. I have all the supplies to create cards for those special people, and I'd like you to write inside about what it is about them or what they have done that has either inspired you or influenced you. This can be purely symbolic in that you don't actually send it." Of course if it was someone famous from history, it would have to be that way if that person was no longer among the living. "Or you can actually give it to the person it was intended for, because everyone likes a little appreciation." At least she did.

Nessa got up from her beanbag chair and stretched a bit before making her way over to the snack table. "Help yourself to another snack and grab some supplies to get started." All of her craft supplies were conveniently located in boxes behind the snack table. See, nice and easy class to end their eventful term. She helped herself to a couple peanut butter cookies then allowed the class to get a few things from her supplies before she'd get any herself. She had a card to make as well.

OOC - I'm closing class Saturday morning EST, so you have about 36 hours to get at least three posts in - getting supplies, creating the card with details, and writing a note inside - thanks!

Did Jasmine know how inspirational and inflluential she was to Janelle? Janelle thought about that for a moment. She came to the conclusion that the answer was........probably not. Well this would be a good way to let her sister know how she felt, wouldn't it? Janelle was all in for the card making. Beside the fact that it was for her sister, she liked doing craftsy things. So this was a win-win project.

Starting to let the creative juices flow, Janelle went up to the boxes of supplies and began to look through them. She needed to come up with and idea.......a good one. Knowing her sister, she would appreciate anything that Janelle gave her. She wanted to make her card really nice though so she had to come up with something super special.

Janelle grabbed some markers and stickers and looked for just the right parchment to use. Digging deeper in the boxes, she found some other cool doodads to add to her card. When she figured that she had enough supplies, Janelle began to think about what she wanted her card to look like. She'd need just the right words too, to express how she felt about her sister. Heading back to her seat, she took a moment to let the ideas brew. Then, she would get to work.

Family members were definitely a THING as far as personal influences and went... and it made perfect sense, too.

Zeke listened, lazily nibbling on his last cookie as they went about the circle. This lesson seemed odd to him, because he didn't feel as if he was really learning anything about HISTORY itself. It was just more about their personal histories, which he was sure nobody else really cared about. When exactly would they ever get to rebellion and war stuff? Hhhmm?

Stifling a sigh, Zeke reluctantly pushed himself up from the beanbag chair and stood for a moment. They were making cards. HE was making a card. For Emily. Wasn't that a little tacky? Would she even want it? He took solace in the fact that he didn't HAVE to give it to her - that was reassuring.

Approaching the snack station where the materials were gathered, Zeke rifled through the boxes and helped himself to a card, and some coloured paper (black and red) and some metallic ink pens too. There were also some stick on shape things, so he grabbed some stars, deciding to stay away from the love hearts. He wasn't yet sure if he was actually going to make this legit to give to her, but he figured he still had to put effort into the task anyway.

Pausing to stuff another couple of cookies in his pocket, Zeke then turned to find a spot to settle at.

Tables would be handy for this, no?

...

Shrugging, he moved to the side of his beanbag and placed his materials on the floor. Laying on his stomach seemed the best option right now.

Puck listened to her classmates as they brought up their favorite events and people it was all so interesting really. All of it, history was well, inspiring. When Zeke mentioned Voldemort she just grinned. That was a good point.

“I really personally find Cassandra Trelawney to be an interesting historical figure,” she grinned, “she’s not only a known name in the Wizarding world but some muggles even know about her because of her the fact that she was a Trojan princess and has even been depicted in greek mythology and books like Homer’s the Oddyssey,” she grinned.

“What I personally like about her is that even though no one ever really believed in her ability as a seer, because she was supposedly cursed by Apollo, but she had the forsight to not trust the Trojan Horse,” she grinned. “That, and the Trellawney line is infamous for having strong Seers in it such as former Professor Cybil Trellawney” Puck smiled because hello – Trellawney’s were cool.

.... Did they know? It was an interesting question. Well he was sure Lottie had to know... Kevin probably assumed really, but Zander couldn't really recall a situation where he actually said it outloud. They didn't do that mushy friendship thing. Well, other than the time when Kevin had two hours before he was going to be sent home. Because there was a heart to heart that happened then, but it mostly consisted of Zander trying to find ways to beg the Headmistress to change her mind. Which clearly didn't happen so uh that failed.

So anyways, maybe he'd make one for Lottie. But what would Kevin say about a card like that? Hm.

For now maybe just Lottie.

So anyways, the Gryffindor slowly stood up to gather some art supplies. He'd need some colorful papers and stuff and maybe he could find some fun scissors or something. Anything to strike up inspiration because Zander had zero. If only Lottie was around to do that inspiring thing, right!? Ha ha ha. Anyways. Getting up now. Sorry.

La la la ALL THE ART SUPPLIES!! Why couldn't they ever do this stuff in Potions?

Adi finished off the last of his cookies and was now sipping his hot chocolate. Yep, Professor Glendy. Benny did know how inspirational he was to him. Or at least he hoped Benny believed him.

Annnd...

ACTIVITY TIME! WOOT!

Soooo, Glendy said they could make a card to someone who is inspirational to them. Meaning ANYONE and not just the person they had just talked about. Well, since Benny knew what Adi thought of him, Adi would just go ahead with making a card for someone else he found inspirational and had been a really great friend to him ever since they met.

Jumping to his feet, he Hufflepuff strode over to the boxes to grab supplies for the card: coloured paper, scissors, glue, coloured pencils and so forth. An idea was already forming in his brain about the design of the card. Before making his way back to his bean bag, he grabbed a few more cookies. Hey, growing guys liked to eat.

They were going to make inspirational cards? Like those Hallmark greeting type cards? Hmm, he could do that. Maybe he could make a few...one for his dad, his mum and...llia? Oh yes...his bestfriend too. Henric felt like he needed to give her some encouraging words. llia hadn't been herself for some time, perhaps his letter for her could cheer her up. Henric glanced over at Adi, oh...not to forget the hufflepuff prefect as well! He wanted to say thank you for all the times Adi had helped him and the pumpkin pies he brought for him. He stood up from his seat and walked towards the front so he could get the materials he need. Henric grabbed a couple of markers, stickers, coloured papers and more before heading back to his seat. Once settled, he picked up a black marker and started titling each card.

Family members were definitely inspirational. Her dad inspired her. They were making cards for people who were an inspiration to them? That was a great idea! Snaps for cool craft projects! Professor Glendower's lessons were always fun. They needed to have more lessons like this one.

She heard Puck talking about Cassandra, the princess of Troy. Cassandra had an interesting story. Something about Apollo giving her the gift of prophecy because he loved her, but then cursing her so no one would listen to her because she didn't love him. "The Trojan princess Cassandra had the gift of prophecy, but no one believed any of her predictions." Cassandra had foreseen the destruction of Troy, but no one believed any of her predictions. Greek mythology was fascinating.

Her thoughts still focused on Greek mythology, Penelope got up to get some art supplies. She needed something purple or blue. After grabbing some paper, pencils, and other supplies, Penelope headed back to her beanbag to start on her card.

Decorating cards didn't come easily to him. It was a girly task, one he wasn't very good at. The card he had made in Astronomy the other year had been completely different, because that was a simply THANK YOU card. But a simple thank you would not suffice in this instance.

In the end he managed to add coloured strips of paper - the black and red - to form a sort of abstract arty looking pattern panel thing. Yeah. Yeah. And THEN, he started sticking on silver and gold stars. They began randomly at first, but eventually he found that he had used it to spell out the letter E.

That would do....

Or would it? Was it special enough? He wasn't sure, so he pulled some of them off and stuck them around randomly again.

Instead, he took up the metallic gel pens and started CONNECTING the stars with lines instead. This way it looked more like a constellation, which in his opinion was considerably fancier.

So, like, they were just doing art stuff today? Fine with Eden. She was exhausted, anyways, and it felt to her a blow off class. Blow off classes were nice as an outgoing seventh year who was so ready for summer she could practically smell it.

Merlin.

She had to figure out what to make Emmalee...and she thought she'd make a little enchanted paper crane, curtesy of Maddie Cooper's brilliant mind. The girl was good at the little things and Eden had learned to appreciate it over the years. She would miss Maddie...Kyroh...and Thornton >.<

So Eden stood up to shuffle over to the supplies. She needed paper...she wanted to make it really pretty...hmm. Maybe she'd make two for her...to represent the BABEHS. Hehehe. Eden felt like she was going to be aunt even though the kids would only be her cousins...but still. Aunt Eden. It felt more right than just...Eden. So she was making two? All right. Two it was, then.

So today... they're just making a card? Jackson wasn't a person who loved doing crafty things. In fact, he's terrible. But well, he's gonna try to do that. He decided to make a card for Sora since he hadn't sent her any letter since two months ago. And now he's gotta tell his former piano tutor who now became a very famous concert pianist that she's his inspiration to be a good concert pianist. Awww...

Getting up for his beanbag chair, The Korean boy walked to the supplies box. Well, what should he make by the way? Like he'd said before, craft things wasn't his thing. Jackson just grabbed some parchment and colored marker and.. Just that. Since Sora and him liked piano and any music stuffs, maybe he should draw things that related with music like.. the piano or musical notes... That's such a good idea.

Angel was totally looking forwards to this and she knew who she was going to sent this one too, she decided that since her dad had been mentioned she would like to give a card to someone else, she thought about her sisters, but well she would have to write them both on the cards and they both inspired her in a different way so that was a no go. She wouldn't have enough room to write it all down.

Angel then thought about Benny who was amazing but he knew that and well that was a no go, then she suddenly had an idea, she would write it about Professor Flamsteed, she thought about Professor Bentley but well she had no idea if it would get to her because she had no idea where she lived, but she could give it to Professor Flamsteed because he had inspired her to be a better Gryffindor when she had asked if she could leave Gryffindor because she had lost points.

Angel went over and got the supplies that she would need, seriously it was important that she made this card look amazing because well she wanted her head of house to know how much she appreciated the advice and how much he inspired her to be better, plus he travelled a lot and talked about space.

Angel finished gathering the equipment and that she smiled as she went and sat down at her desk to make this amazing card, it was going to be perfect or her name wasn't Angel Leigh Valentine.

The card wasn't going to look any better than it did currently, so Zeke decided to STOP with working it on the chance he made it worse. Too much could be as bad as too little. But as hard as that had been, the hardest part was yet to come.

Though he had written about this (more or less) in his project, writing words that were intended for HER was hard. He would have to choose his words carefully, and condense his rambling to succinct sentences. Firstly, so as not to bore her if she were to receive it, and secondly because space was limited.

Using the gold gel pen, Zeke opened the card and began to write.
Mum,
That was a good start, right? He paused, pen hovering, biting his bottom lip and he considered how to put all that he felt into coherent and non sappy words.
I'll probably screw this up somehow, but I want to try to put into words what you mean to me.
- Because he NEEDED a disclaimer for whatever was about to come, failure was imminent. Already he was constructing sentences in his head, and crossing them all out. Nothing felt right.
You're not my only thing, or my everything, because you taught me to have more to live for. But you are a very important part of my life, which for now I couldn't even bring myself to think to live without. You taught me that you don't need books to be smart, that you don't need to be a bully to be strong, that you don't need to say nice things to be a good person. I like how you care without saying it, but by showing it, and I just want to say thank you for caring for me. I love you.

Yours always,

Zeke.

...

Zeke stared down at the card. It was better than he expected. Somehow he managed to get words down, that didn't sound entirely ridiculous... though they did a little bit.

Snapping the card shut, Zeke pulled himself off the floor and returned the materials he'd borrowed. Then with the time to spare, he returned to his beanbag chair and flopped into it.

Supplies with him, Adi grabbed blue paper and a pair of scissors. The paper he had grabbed was a shade that mimicked the colour of the Swedish Short Snout. Short Snouts were Henric's favourite type of dragon, after all.

With the scissors, Adi did his best to cut the paper into the outline of a flying Short Snout. You know, with the wings spread out and all. It took a WHOLE LOT of snips and adjustments before he was satisfied the cut out resembled a dragon. The tail was the easiest part to get right, by the way.

RIGHT! The basics for the card was completed. Now came the design. Adi pulled the coloured pencils closer to him. The first drawing was one of the Tree House on the Grounds with a stick figure that represented Henric. The stick figure was hovering in mid air while another stick figure that was Adi held pointed his wand at Henric. Hehe. This was that time the older Puffer levitate him up to the tree house.

The next drawing was of stick Henric surrounded by a pile of pumpkin pasties. Adi's friend was obsessed with those things, yo! A picture of the duo in the Common Room with Gus and Princess was added before Adi coloured each of them. Finally, he used the animation Charm to get them moving.

Now the drawings showed Henric moving up and down in mid air, him eating the Pasties and the boys laughing at a joke in their Common Room, the toads hopping about.

PERFECT!

Now that all of her supplies were obtained, Janelle needed to work on the cover of her card. She looked down at everything she had and waited for some inspiration to strike her. At first, she couldn't decide what to do. Then she had an idea. She folded her parchment in half to make the card. Then she took a piece of blue paper to use for her inside page. Grabbing some glue, she pasted the pieces together to make the card look just how she wanted it to.

Janelle decided to make use of the many stickers that she had. She wasn't really into flowers, but Jasmine liked all of that girly stuff. So Janelle used her flower stickers as trim on the corners of her card. She had to include a few pink ones because pink was her sister's favorite color. of course it was Next, she found a few butterflies to add to the overall girliness.

Once that was done, Janelle decided that she needed some words on her cover. She had something in mind, but it was kinda corny. Oh well, Jasmine would probably be happy with anything she gave her so she went with her corny idea. Taking some markers, she wrote down her words and added a few more stickers for good measure. When she was done with the cover, Janelle looked it over and was pretty much satisfied with the result. Now all she had to do was finish the inside. She needed some words that would say just how she felt.

SPOILER!!: Janelle's card, part 1

Adi spent a good moment looking at his animation as he grinned to himself. Levitating Henric had been particularly hilarious. On his part, anyway. Henric had been terrified and furious at him. Still… they had had a good laugh about it afterward while they exchange Chocolate frog and Dragon cards. Shifting his card away from his pal so the boy would not see, Adi thought on the words to put in the card. Something funny and witty obviously.

SPOILER!!: Note!
To the guy who’s crushing on Leah and Ilia (seriously dude, make up your mind),

Did you know how awesome you are? You’ve got the all traits of Hufflepuff perhaps even more than I do. Everyone should take an example from you. The world would be a better place if there were more Hennys’ running… No, I mean flying around in it (you're a Short Snout, right?). You deserve to be someone’s role model. Oh wait. Too late! You’re already one of mine! Sorry, Henny. You’re stuck with me. You know what that means, right? It means you can look out for more levitations.

Stay cool and awesome, Henny. You’re a great friend. The only thing I would trade you for are Hippogriffs. Nah, I’m kidding.

Bro love headed your way from
Super Adi.

There! All done! The Hufflepuff has used the coloured pencils to write the note. And to think he had someone calling him Super Adi. Well, it wasn’t the first time someone did but he liked the nickname. It reminded him of Elodie. He missed her tons. Anyway, his card was DONE! He’d be giving this to Henric soon. Merlin knew the younger Puff could do with a bit of cheering up.

Both questions and post 1 <3

Marsha smiled softly as the older girl took the cookie from her. Really, she had no idea if it would help.. it wasn’t likely especially if it was due to lack of sleep that she was tired - but the sugar kick might help her through the cass if nothing else. ”It’s nice to meet you, I’m Marsha.” Before she could say more though, Professor Glendower started the lesson so she simply shot another smile at the older Slytherin before paying attention.

Marsha listened to the others in the class mention Harry Potter and a lot of other people and events relating to the war with Voldemort at the end of the 20th century. Really, she couldn’t think of anyone else in history off the top of her head so she nodded adamantly when her classmates mentioned the names that she DID know… that totally counted… right? Sure. why not. It was the last class of the year (where had it gone though?) and surely, a few nodding heads and missed answers were expected.

She bite her lip wondering if anyone would judge her for her answer? Did it matter? Did it even count? She raised her hand slowly, frowning a little as it was her turn. ”Um… I look up to my Tad.” Pause and she took a deep breath before continuing, ”He is a bodyguard and works with security - which is a family business thing… but he is super good at his job which has put various members of our family in danger over the years but he always gets them back and makes sure that they are safe and protected… He saved my Mum when she got kidnapped about seven years ago before they were married and he was instrumental in helping a selection of my other aunts and uncles in getting my Aunt Myst back when she was kidnapped due to being important to an uncle of mine.” Yup… Big security and infiltration style companies unfortunately meant people wanted to get back at you.

Okaaayyy. So everyone probably thought she was crazy now, or understood just WHY most of her family were trained in some form of martial art style. However, regardless of all of that, really she was just super proud of the man who was her father and she would be really upset if that didn’t properly show through in her little fast garbled out-burst. But his loyalty, trust, love, compassion and dedication all make him an amazing man and I hope I end up being like him when I’m older.

OH! Activity time…. making a card for her Tad? Sure! Awesome even, but first more cookies! Especially since she had given Zhenya one of the ones she had originally picked up for herself. Bounding upwards, she grabbed another cookie (smiles to you Professor!) before she she moved to the art pile… She stood in front of the pile nibbling on her cookie for a few minutes before deciding what she wanted to make… Her taddy wasn’t the biggest fan of cards, so she looked over the supplies wondering what else she could make him to let him know how much she loved him… maybe a picture? or a certificate?

OH! A certificate! Maybe? She eyed the Professor trying to remember if she had stated a card specifically… but honestly she couldn’t remember. Oh well! Certificate it was. Grinning, she picked up a few supplies to begin … well something. She didn’t know what yet.

Puck just raised an eyebrow over at Marsha – was she supposed to talk about the family business? Because that seems a bit…like top secret platinum level clearance stuff right? “Well, I’m glad your dad good to you Marsha,” Puck smiled over to her, sure, sure a part of that stung. But it always did whenever someone had the family she had never really had herself.

“Oh, this is going to be fun,” she took a deep breath got up and began to walk over to the art supplies. Now, now this was going to be interesting. Picking up a selection of paper and crafting supplies she couldn’t help but laugh.

She was writing a card to a dead person…maybe it would have been smarter or more fitting to write to her mother? Which, well, that might happen. “C-can we change our people to someone more fitting?” She asked nervously and chewed on the edge of her lip.

Really.

This was nerve wracking.

Because she hadn’t really ever gotten the chance to say goodbye and maybe, maybe this would be it. A card she would never be able to actually send.

Okay, so AJ wasn't the artistic type... like, at all. BUT she always appreciated an easy breezy class that didn't take a whole lot of thinking. That was something that she wasn't sure she was up for. However, making cards, that was something she could do. AJ was ALL over that.

Deciding that grabbing an assortment of things and just letting something come to her, she snagged handfuls of supplies. Walking back to her little area, she plopped all of the supplies down.

Before she could really get her creative juices flowing, she was going to need some more snacks. That much was a given. The lion walked back up to the front to grab some more cookies and refill her pumpkin juice.

All set. Okay. Now what to make for her grandpa? He would love anything really, but she wanted to make him something a little special. He deserved it. After all, where did her dad get his awesomeness from? Grandpa, that's right!

Eden grabbed two sheets of paper, markers, some inks, a quill, and tried her best not to spill it as she maneuvered back to her desk to begin working. By now, she was a pro at folding paper cranes. Once again, THANK YOU MADDIE COOPER.

So the folding began, and Eden went very slow to ensure that they were PERFECT. Oh. Maybe she should have...painted them first? Oops. So she carefully unfolded the paper and sighed as she tried to flatten out the crinkles and the lines...she did her best.

Okay so the first one, she was going to paint a pretty light green color...and the second one a pretty PINK color. Were they supposed to just be doing notes? Oh well. Eden could say she was doing an ELABORATE note, eh? Hehe. She dipped her brush into the ink and began to spread the color across her paper...first the green...and then the pink...normally, Eden didn't like pink, but she was dealing with it right now because she thought THE GREEN fit for one twin the PINK for the other, hehe. It would all work out okay.

Now...for drawing the little leaves one one and the berries on the other...because she had such a specific idea in mind..

AJ bit her bottom lip as she looked over her supplies that were laid out in a mess in front of her. What should she do? Too bad she couldn’t do something extra awesome and add a little magic to his card. Her grandpa would sure get a kick out of that. She wondered for a moment about how to make the card smoke every time you opened it. That would be wicked. It seemed like an awful lot work though and this was supposed to be a chill sort of lesson. Nah. It wasn’t going to happen. She just decided.

With that dilemma out of the way, she now needed to come up with a different game plan. A perfect idea immediately popped into her head. Baseball! Her grandpa liked all sports, but this was something that she shared with him and her dad. Perfect.

Rummaging through her supplies, she picked out the colors that she would need and got straight to work. First she needed to draw some grass. It had to be perfect. She wanted it to remind her grandpa of the time the three of them had went to the game together. What an amazing time they had. Sadly, it would probably be the last time that he would be able to go since he was getting up there in age. No, she wasn’t going to turn this into a sad thing. This was a happy card.

Marsha hadn’t thought about that - it was well known within their family so she didn’t think about it before saying it. The thought didn’t even pass her mind now, instead she simply grinned at her Prefect and nodded her head happily. ”He’s amazing.” … And he was everything to her. Well, and her mum and Alis of course.

Sitting back down at desk, she tapped one of the pens on her bottom lip as she stared at the paper. Okay… her Tad… heeeerrrr Tadddyyyy. Hmm. What did he like? Whhaaattt dooooeeesssss heee likeee? Griffin, this was hard.

Picking up her wand, she held it over the paper and said ”Colovaria!” as she imagined the paper turning a lightish blue/green/teal/thing. She didn’t really know the colour name but she liked the colour the paper had turned and she hoped that her Tad liked it too.

Okkkaaayyyy. Now that that was done, how did she want to set this out? Well, every certificate she had ever seen had a border on it - to accen… Hmph. To show off what the certificate was for. Yup, that.

So, she picked up a pencil and started to doodle around the edge of the paper. Little random images that represented them as a family. A dragon for Wales, a dummy for Alis. A horse and a cat for Duchess and Chestnut. A stable and a house. And so the pictures went around the outside. They looked nice and crisp in graphite against the lighter colour of the paper. Wheeeee.

Did they know how inspirational they were to him? Well... that was the question. When it came to his parents, Toby made it a point to tell them how much he loved them, as often as he could, but he couldn't really remember saying more than that. Mostly because sometimes he wasn't sure how much they wanted to hear it, because if they let him, Toby could ramble on for hours and hours and hours and it was usually smart to avoid doing that in the first place. In contrast, he'd told his grandmother often, and in great detail, how much she inspired him, so at least there was that.

Right then. Card for Piers and Javy. That sounded like a good idea - and more feasible than a card for literally everyone in the world, of course. Just for the parents. Nice and personal.

Of course, Toby needed supplies first. He already knew exactly what the design of the card would be, and exactly how to decorate it, and so wasted no time in going up to get what he needed.

Or... trying to. Because first he had to totally wrestle himself out of the beanbag, which essentially ended with him rolling his way out of it and onto the floor, and then standing up. Ahem. Nothing to see here.

So... supplies. He needed card, of course, white and black and also blue and green. And pens. And glitter.

So. Much. Glitter.

Maybe he'd even get a snack too, to get in the creative mood or whatever.

Nessa hung back a bit from the supply boxes, nibbling on her peanut butter cookie as she watched students get started on their cards. Not that the necessarily had to show them to her as this was more an exercise for themselves and an honoring to those they have chosen, she was eager to see their creativeness at work. Perhaps she'd walk around the beanbag circle to see a bit for herself. But for now, she was making her own card!

She thought about doing a symbolic card for Wendelin the Weird because she knew she could make it really cool looking with fake flames and all. But instead she decided to make one for her BFF to let her know how inspirational she was to her. Thinking about her reminded Nessa that she still needed Cassie to do that reading for her to help her make a decision about the recent letter she had received. It was those thoughts that she was lost in as she reached into the box to get supplies for herself and she heard Puck's question.

"Oh you can create a card for anyone you find to be an inspiration in your life," she said as she pulled out some silver glitter and several colors of cardstock. "It doesn't have to be who you named just now." Hadn't she said that? Well, she thought she did and if she hadn't, she did now. Grabbing a handful of markers as well, Nessa made it back to her beanbag chair and set her supplies down on the floor in front of her.

Angel was going to enjoy doing this for her head of house, he was such an amazing person and she knew already what she wanted to do and how she wanted to make the card look he was so much a star trek fan and so she decided on the best design possible.

Angel started by making the enterprise bridge, she had the usual crew on their like Spock, McCoy and all the usual but instead of having Captain Kirk as the leader well she was going to put Professor Flamsteed in, she started to draw him trying to make it perfect, when she thought she had him down to a tee she looked at it and giggled how awesome was this... she wanted it to be amazing for him, she made sure that his hand was pointing like he was telling his crew to go full speed ahead.

One side of her card was covered in different colors. Green for the grass, and white for the bases, silver for the stadium and a multitude of colors for the people in the stands. Yeah, it wasn’t perfect because art wasn’t her thing, but you could tell what she was going for here. She even had a man walking up the stairs holding snacks for the game. You had to have peanuts at a ballgame. There were rules.

Now came the even harder part. She needed to write words. Actual heartfelt words. You see, AJ had it all in her head, but trying to write it all down was a totally different thing. It was hard, man. Why couldn’t she just give him a hug, and let the squishes do all of the talking? She sighed, and picked up a marker with a fine point. No more messing around. She had to get this down. In fact, she would reward herself with another sweet treat. There you go, Valentine. The ball’s in your court.

SPOILER!!: card contents

Grandpa,

You are the coolest old dude ever. You definitely don’t act your age, and I hope I am half as much fun as you are when I grow up. I admire you for always staying true to yourself. I love the quality time we get to spend together, and I will never forget the baseball game you attended with me and dad. It was the best time. Thanks for always getting me extra snacks, knowing that mom wouldn’t approve. An extra special thanks for raising an awesome son that I now get to call dad.

Love you more than unicorns,
AJ

There. That actually wasn’t bad at all. Once her marker started to move it actually all just flowed out. AJ stared at her artwork for just a moment. It was perfect. She knew that he grandpa would love it. Hopefully grandma didn’t get jealous. Maybe she better get her mom to send some of her treats from the bakery to her… just in case.

Angel looked at her nice card, she hoped that the Professor would love it, seriously she wanted to know more about him after her chat with him, next term she was going to ask him if she could get to travel to another planet and see what plant life is like there. She thought it would be super cool if she could but she had no idea how one went about doing that, maybe he could help her.

Angel now had to think what to write in the card, Your cool and we all know you are was the first thought but she didn't like it, it was a bit lame and would be better for a chant, maybe if the Professor even left she would chant that to him.

Angel suddenly got what she wanted to say.

SPOILER!!: note

I was upset when Professor Bentley decided that she wouldn't be coming back to Hogwarts and I was worried about what would happened to the Gryffindor House without her, but well you inspired me after that talk we had in my second year, I want to be a better person and I totally want to make sure that everything works out well and that I follow my dreams like you did and on that note all I can say is.

THERE'S ONLY ONE PROFESSOR FLAMSTEED!!"

Angel was totally going to give her card to her head of house at the end of term feast. She smiled as she finished what she was doing and then she waited to see what the Professor asked them to do next.

Hera 08-01-2015 12:25 AM

questionnnn.. just because *mellow*

Despite the fact that there were free snacks, he felt he'd had his fill of the stuff, and so that left him with little else to do than just watch his peers continue their work and agonise over WHAT to do with this card. He couldn't actually give it to her, could he? He knew that she knew how much she meant to him, so a lame card wasn't going to... make a difference. Right?

It seemed as though he was more or less decided on burying the evidence - that is, the evidence of his lame and corny self. It was not an image he wanted out there.

Raising his hand, and waving it around a bit to get Professor Glendower's attention, he asked, "Professor, what do we do when we're done?" Like, could he go now? Please? Or were they suppose to squeeze in some other activity too?

Kate was tired. No, no. Kate was dead'ed. The school year was coming to a close, and all she wanted to do was move around like a sloth. She'd stayed silent on that last question, but she had thought of an answer. Now they were moving on to making a card for someone who was influential in their lives. Kate could do that, and she'd even chosen a person to make a card for.

Her mom.

Kate headed to the supply area and chose some card stock, some construction paper, and some scissors, glue, glitter, and markers. Surely with those items she could create something that told her mom how much she loved her and appreciate her.

Kate went back to her seat and began placing the materials in front of her, so she could just stare at them and wait for inspiration to strike. She was pretty sure she could come up with the words fairly easy, but the design? She needed to think on that.

Zhenya thought of the one person who was most influential in her life. Unfortunately he was no longer alive, but it didn't mean he was any less there. Once it was her turn to speak, she did so; "My grandfather is most influential to me. He taught me to love education. Especially potions and herbology. He also taught me a love of being outdoors, exploring, getting my hands dirty. More than that, though, he taught me the art of caring, purely by observing how he treated others." She had to stop there, otherwise her eyes would probably start leaking in a while. All the study had been making her emotions a tad crazy.

-------------------------------------

And now they were going to be making stuff? WICKED! Although Zhenya didn't want to make a card for her grandfather. The thought just made her feel depressed. She decided to make one for her cousin, Sophia. Sophia had taken her in when she needed someone the most, and gave her shelter. Plus she was a great ball of fun to be around.

Up to the front Zhenya went to grab supplies. A yellow bit of card, because that was her favourite colour, plus some black, pink, and orange coloured things to decorate the card with, and some other tools. With the supplies in her hands, Zhenya took them back to her seat to get started.

Once he finished titling them with the names of his inspirational persons in his life, he immediately started on writing whatever had been said earlier about his dad onto his card. Henric used another different coloured pen to draw some frame-like patterns along the borders of his card too. After that, he added some nice stickers so his card looked more decorative in a sense. He moved on to his mum's card and did the same as well. His mum loved roses so he tried his best to draw one on the front and the back of his card before writing his loving thoughts about her.

He peered over to Adi's side and wondered who he made his card for, Adi kept covering his work so he couldn't see. Come on Adi...couldn't he take a peek, just a little bit? Heheh. Oh well...Henric resumed making one for Adi too. Smiling to himself, he would make Adi's card a little more action pack with plenty of animated figures around. First he drew a stick figure of 'SuperAdi' with a cape around his neck riding on the back of his hippogriff. Next he drew his pet toad Gus too, his super loyal sidekick flying in from the corner of the page. Adi once told him, he played cricket before so Henric added in a cricket bat on SuperAdi's hand to act as his weapon of choice. Brilliant!

He tapped his pen on his chin and thought about the things he wanted to say to Adi:

SPOILER!!: To Mr.PuffyPrefect

Hey, man! I know this going to sound so cheesy later on, but I'm really glad to have known you this past year. You are one super brilliant friend to have and I'm thankful for all the support you've given us!

I still find it hard to believe that you'll be leaving us next term, where will I find someone like you around? It wouldn't be the same at all because there is only one SuperAdi! Furthermore, you just know the right words and actions to cheer someone up in an instant and I find that truly amazing, mate! Don't you ever change!

I'll still keep holding on to your promise of letting me ride one of your hippogriffs, Adi! Don't you forget that!

- Henric

P.S: Get me more pumpkin pastries, please. We should play some.muggle football sometime too! :D

Inspiration struck, and Kate had a few ideas for her mother's card. She started by folding a piece of card stock to where it looked just like a card. Then she chose a piece of purple construction paper, because purple was her mother's favorite color. Kate cut around the edges until the purple construction paper was the size of the card stock. Kate glued the construction paper to the outside of the card stock then used a drying charm to dry the glue.

Next, Kate chose some yellow, pink, and white construction paper and cut them in the shape of flowers. She used glitter to make the stems and leaves of the flowers just to give them a little sparkle. She then used different colored glitters to make little designs around the card, such as swirls, polka dots, and zig-zags.

Kate made sure to decorate the front, middle, and back of the card. She left room in the middle for the words she would write, which would be the next thing she'd do. Her mom was really going to love this card!

It took her a while, but she eventually had images the full way around the certificate. She would colour them in at the end if she had time - but she wanted to get the certificate finished before that… She might have time after class to come back after all - it wasn’t like she had exams to do… but for now she had to figure out the layout of the certificate… and what it was going to say on it.

Pulling a blank sheet of paper to be in front of her, she wrote a few different things, rubbing them out and then trying again… eventually she finished up with something that she mostly liked the look of. Mostly. She didn’t expect it to be perfect when she didn’t have hours and hours to perfect it… but her taddy loved her for being herself so that was okay.

With a grin, she read and re-read the piece of paper before nodding to herself. Picking up a black and a red felt tip pen, she set about creating it properly on her actual certificate.

Congratulations Eliot Hanover!

The only problem was, once she was finished she didn’t like the background colour being teal/blue-ish any more. So, she pointed her wand at it once more and saying ”colovaria” once more, she changed the background to a shimmery gold. THAT was much better.

GRIN. GRIN. GRIN!!!.

So... she was making a card for someone? Dot felt self-conscious about sending a note to her inspiration, since the woman was actually a really famous person and not just someone who would appreciate Dot's pluck and adorable whimsy. Most grown-ups didn't really appreciate adorable whimsy in strange children.

So she'd just make up the card and see how she felt about it when it was done. Or maybe she'd do a letter and send it with some of her sketches? That seemed mature and sensible. What materials were best suited for a task like this?

Parchment. Quill and ink. Colored pencils for some sketchings around the sides. Dot collected her materials and returned to her bean bag.

Marsha’s dad sounded great, “aww that’s awesome Marsha, I’m happy for you.” She smiled and simply picked up the pens that she had grabbed earlier and began sketching onto one side of her card. The little drawing was simple, smooth, and simply depicted the cameo of her mother’s face.

The little sketch was just the first part of it. In swooping letters she wrote out the name April Greyvson, and felt a soft pang of sadness as she truly missed her family. Taking the quills she began writing out her note, it was all she could do at this time.

SPOILER!!: the note

April Greyvson,

Mom, I love you. I Always will. I miss you, and you should know that if you were here I would so try and make you proud as you would have done for me. With out even trying.

Just the fact that you are strong, and you stood up for me, that alone made me proud of you. Because I had the gift of having you in my life. Thank you for teaching me to be brave, for teaching me to stand up for others, and for teaching me to appreciate others. I was going to write this letter to Cassandra Trellawney but she doesn't mean as much to me as you do. After all, the reason I even learned about her was because of you reading greek mythology to me before bed when you didnt read Shakespeare that is. Because of you I know how to stand up for myself and I do that, as much as I can. You inspired me to be a strong independent woman. Because of you, I know what it is like to fight for people. Because of you, I can be a capable Prefect. Thank you mom, for everything.
Love,
Puckleberry

Sure, she'd changed her person but that wasn't going to be a problem. Both the person she had brought up and the person she had written to, well, both were dead. That was just the way life went. For one it was tragic and the other, well, it had been generations? Centuries right? Who really knew. But still, if she could she would share the letter with its recipient just to see them smile once again.

Kate held her card up and gave it a long, hard look. She thought it looked perfect for her mother. It was strong and sturdy, it was her mom's favorite color, and it had colorful flowers and decorations lined with glitter all over it. The only thing missing now was the message!

Kate grabbed a color-changing quill and wrote a message across the front first.

My Hero, My Best Friend

Kate liked the way that looked. It was pretty and colorful and really stood out. She smiled at it then opened the card to the middle. Then she wrote a message there, too.
Thank you for being such an inspiration to me.
My hero, my best friend, my mother I love so.
I know you would hand me the world on a silver spoon if I asked you to,
and this card is to let you know that I would do the same for you.
Thank you for loving me, caring for me, and always wanting the best for me.
I love you MORE!

................................................Love your daughter, Kate
Well, that should do it. Kate smiled again as she closed her card and placed it on the desk in front of her. All done.

What did she want to say to her sister? Janelle thought long and hard about how to put her feelings into words. There was so much that she wanted to tell Jasmine, but her card wasn't big enough for that. She had to make it short and sweet, but get her point across in a few words. Looking at her watch, Janelle knew that she probably didn't have much more time to finish her card. Class would soon be over so she had get it done and get it done quickly.

With a sigh, Janelle took out a white marker and began to write on the blue background inside her card. Just speak from the heart, she figured. That was always the best way to go about things. She squeezed as much as she could on the little page and when she was done, Janelle put the cap back on her marker. Hopefully, Jasmine would like the card that she made for her.

Y'know what neat thing Dot found in the art supplies? A potato. For real. A for real potato. She was sort of thrilled with the find (who put it there, though?) because it meant that she could turn her plain parchment into stationary. Make it seem fancy without having to doodle in the corners and seem like a little kid to her idol.

In the off chance that she actually sent this letter, that is.

It took some concentrated carving with her wand, but Dot was good at fine motor work with a wand AND at Charms in general. Finally, though, she'd managed to turn one half of the potato into a pattern of waves and swirls and intricate tiny flowers. She poured a bit of her ink into a lid and tapped the potato print a few times. Just enough to pick up ink without being doused in it.

On the corners of her parchment, Dot applied her print as a stamp, creating a light patterning around where her words would go. Okay... sorta pretty. And once it dried, she'd add a bit of color with the pencils to personalize the stamping.

So, Toby was absolutely going to make a cow card for his parents, which was bound to take ages, but he didn't care. He wasn't sure if maybe cows were a bit of a sensitive topic for the both of them still, but figured that wouldn't always be the case. In anyway, THIS way they would always be reminded of Toby when they looked at it, because he was like a cow kid. In any case, maybe they were no longer angry with him for accidentally borrowing that cow last summer. It was a chance he was willing to take.

Toby was already hard at work, shaping the white card into the shape of a cow's face and everything, and then doing the same for the blue and green and sticking them inside so that when they opened it it was BOTH THEIR HOUSE COLOURS. Adhaero came in handy for all this, as did Diffindo and the ever useful scissors. And sure, Toby was no artist, but he thought it didn't look half bad. He used the pens to mark the detail on the happy cow's face, on the outside of the card, then the black card to make cow markings to stick onto the front and back. AND, EVENTUALLY, HE'D DONE IT. Kind of. It was definitely recognisable as a cow, at least, and that was what he was aiming for. He opened it and stood it up to make sure it was all perfectly balanced, then made himself busy adding and sticking GLITTER to the entire thing.

Obviously, he'd rig the thing to drop glitter on them when they opened it. Maybe even find a charm to make INFINITE GLITTER, like what was probably on his fairy wings.

And, of course, he still needed to write them a message. That... would be the difficult but, if he was going to try not to make it too open and honest (because that stuff was hard for Toby) but also make it meaningful. Guh. This might be more of a challenge than he had originally anticipated. Probably more of a challenge than it was meant to be.

But for now, Toby continued on with the glitter. Lots of glitter. Really throwing himself into glittering it up.

emjay 08-01-2015 01:22 PM

Nessa was taking a long time to try to figure out exactly what should be the design of her card. Crystal balls, maybe.. or tarot cards? She finally decided on signs of the zodiac rendered in silver glitter. She had already applied that to her card and was beginning to think of how to make them move around circularly about the front of her card when she heard Zeke ask a question.

Uh.. what? Nessa had been rather focused on making her card that she hadn't noticed much else. He was done already? She glanced quickly at the time. Oh.. it was time for class to be over anyway. "When you are finished with your cards, you may leave." Luckily it was about that time or no, he could have done something else. Was it not enough that she was having an easy and relaxed class? She wasn't letting people leave early too. She dusted off the glitter from her hands and got up from her beanbag. She hadn't had time to look around at everyone's cards but she wasn't going to make them show them to her, knowing that they could be a little more private than that. She certainly wouldn't be opposed if they wanted to show her their creativity.

"Have a wonderful summer, everyone," she gave them all a warm smile, then her eyes found a few of them. "And seventh years, I wish you luck in whatever path life takes you." She had a lot of faith that they would do well in their future endeavors.

FearlessLeader19 08-01-2015 02:25 PM

Sooooo... is card was done. Adi studied it as he downed the remainder of his hot chocolate. Time for delivery to the Henny! Just for fun, he used his wand to levitate the dragon card. It looked like it was flying, yo! Anyway, he levitated it over to Henric.

"Incoming dragon for Henny Nicolei!'' Grinning, Adi made the dragon hover before the boy's face. "This is for you, awesome buddy.'' Would Henric like the card? Would he? WOULD HE? The sixth year couldn't wait to see the reaction.
....................

And so class was done. Hmph. History may be boring but not with Glendy. Adi gathered up his stuff, vanished any lurking cookie crumbs then shuffled over to his Professor. "Byeee, Professor. You have a great summer too.'' Here's to her planning more awesome lessons for his final year. Hehe.

Now... where was that fourth year that was Henric?

Okay so Eden finished her painting jobs....now she pulled out her wand to dry the inks quickly. Once she was done that, Eden began to refold the paper that she had previously and stupidly folded. Ugh. At least she wouldn't have to look at the ugly creases.

She took her time with the folding because she wanted to make sure they were perfect. Her paint job had been pretty good, which was surprising to Eden, but she wasn't doing anything TOO masterful right now. Folding folding ALL DAY LOOOOOONG. Eden was singing to herself in her head...

SHE WAS RUNNING OUT OF TIME, THOUGH. As soon as she was done folding, she set the cranes aside, grabbed another piece of paper to write the note on...

SPOILER!!: Emmalee's Note

Emmalee,

I just wanted to say that you are my inspiration. You've worked so hard to get where you are today and now you have the dream life you always wanted...and I am so happy for you and that i Have you in my life. I don't know what my life would be life without you...you're the big sister I always needed, and the friend I always wanted. You're wise and you help me out so much....I love you, Emmalee, and I appreciate all that you've done for me.

Love, Eden.

THERE NOTE WAS DONE, CRANES WERE DONE. And just in time, too. Professor Glendower was dismissing class.

Hera 08-01-2015 02:44 PM

It seemed as though the Professor was deep in thought over her own card, but at least he got a response that was very much desired. His card was complete, which meant he could go. GREAT! "Thanks Professor Glendower," he beamed, scooping his bag up from the floor and sticking his card in there. She said nothing about turning it in, so he would go and dispose of it appropriately... in the bottom of his trunk for now.

He could hardly wait for summer break, he had plans, many plans and he was sure that few of them would come to fruition - because frankly, he preferred being spontaneous.

"See you later, Professor," he farewelled, figuring if he didn't see her around and about, that he'd at least see her at the feast. And with that, he was off... back to the common room first.

Symphora 08-01-2015 03:14 PM

Henric continued making a card for llia after he had done finishing with Adi's. But he just got started with the drawing on llia's card when the professor suddenly annouced that they may leave after they finished making their cards.Hmm...he better continued back at his dormroom then...he still had left more things to say to his bestie so he shoved her card in his bag before anyone could see. For the other remaining finished cards, Henric laid it out in front of him and inspect it. They weren't hallmark inspired perfect cards but he was hundred and ten percent sincere while making them.

Henric looked up to find Adi's dragon-shape card fluttering in front of him, he smiled broadly. Oh mate, you shouldn't have! He grabbed and opened the card with both his hands and read the contents inside it. Wahh! Adi remembered the time they both spent at the treehouse and he didn't forget to include his late beloved Princess too! Awww..looking at this made him teary eyed! What?! Wait..no..he is a man...and men don't cry!

Henric's face brightened and he cast a very big smile towards Adi,"Thanks mate! Its brilliant! Seriously bro, you make my day a whole lot better,waitt.... here,I've got one for you too,"he beamed and gave his card to Adi."Yeah...its kind of embarrassing but hope you'll like it mate, its not a confession letter or anything...dont worry,"he joked, chuckling.

FearlessLeader19 08-01-2015 03:35 PM

Wheee!

That was the reaction Adi was going for! Look at Henric's face, yo! Clearly the right choice had been made when he decided to make the card for the younger Puff. Smiles... and a little watery eyes. Awwh. "I'm glad you like it. Just hope you'll like those levitations later on too.'' Cue the smirk!

Oh! Henric made him one too? Waaah! They were like brain twins or something, thinking to make a card for the other. Confession letter? Bahahaha! Adi laughed. "There's no one else I'd rather have a confession letter from though,'' he said as be batted his eye lashes. Hehe. He was just goofing off.

But an even broader grin appeared on his face as he read his card. "Not cheesy at all, Henny. And don't worry. I'll come see you guys on Hogsmeade weekends and I'll owl you a lot. You might get tired of me.'' Adi tucked his card into his History note book. There was NO WAY he was going to let it get so much of a bend. the book would keep it safe. "You can ride all the Hippogriffs you want, by the way.'' As for pumpkin pasties, Henny can count on always having a supply of that!

With her card completed Puck just sat there watching the other students handing little letters to their friends. That, that was sweet; it seemed like a great idea for the end of the term what with people trying to show their love for people was great really.

Taking her wand in hand she just tapped her small letter, “colovaria” imagining the back of the card to be a shimmering silvery blue. Like the color of ice as it sparkled on the untouched ground. There, she would have loved that, a few more taps and she had changed the front of the card so that is matched.

“Thanks Professor Glendower,” Puck smiled over to the Professor. “I had loads of fun in your class this year and last of course” she smiled and continued to tuck her card into her bag and shuffled to collect her bags.
