History of Magic Lesson 2 The walk down the first floor corridor is a rather dusty one, something that might be reminiscent to walking through a rarely visited attic. Cobwebs are present in every corner, some larger than others. It appears someone had neglected cleaning this part of the castle. Are the house elves on strike? The "Make an Entrance" sign hanging outside the classroom happens to be cobweb-free, however. Professor Glendower made sure to clean it up on her way into the room as she got there early to prepare for her lesson. Once inside the classroom, you might first notice the covered boxes at the front of the room as well as several brooms propped up next to them. Perhaps Professor Glendower had been using them to clean up the cobwebs that had grown in this room as well since the last time class was in session. In fact, you might notice her using some spellwork to finish tidying up while she's humming an old Disney tune that she and a student had been playing recently next door. Once you greet her, she'll be sure to welcome you with a smile on her face. So, come in and take a seat, class will begin soon! Class Progression Question One Question Two Try out some games Create a new game |
GOSH! WHAT WAS WITH THE DUST? Adi non verbally cast the Scouring Charm at some parts of the corridor as he walked by. First spider webs, now this, Hmph. At least the classroom had none of the former. WOOT! "NO cobwebs,'' he said loudly and unnecessarily to announce his presence. "Phew! That's a relief because I don't think you'd like to see me covered in them again, Professor. Hello, by the way.'' A nice bright smile for the nice lady who had helped mend things between him and Benny. He loved her for it. ''Do you need help? After making sure that Glendower didn't need help and taking in the covered things and brooms, the Hufflepuff did a shuffle as he hummed a tune of his own as he went to find a seat. |
History of Magic... The class that had taken place and involved the big blow up between him and Adi. It might have been awkward to walk into, had he and his bestie not fixed things after the joint werewolf lesson. As it was the only thing weird about his journey to the classroom was walking around all the cobwebs along the first floor corridor. They really were crazy around the castle. Benny took out his wand to try and clean and wound up sneezing instead. "AchOOO!" Great...just great. After the second attempt failed , the sixth year gave up and just hurried to the right door. Stepping inside, it was good to see that it was cleaner inside. With one final sneeze, "Achoo," he gathered himself and looked around. "Hello Professor" he greeted with a soft smile. Glendower did deserve some respect and thanks to her help in getting him and Adi to understand each other. Speaking of which... "Hey Adi," he greeted, heading towards the Hufflepuff. |
It was time for another lesson. History of Magic this time. Hady was prepared for the lesson as she usually was. However what she wasn't prepared was all the dust and cobwebs that covered the corridor to the room! Good gosh this was insane. What was going on around this castle lately. Crinkling her nose a little the third year quickly made her way down the corridor doing her best not to sneeze. Hady had managed not to sneeze from all the dust but that didn't keep her from coughing quietly into the crook of her elbow. Frowning slightly she made her way into the room very much glad to see it was clean. Awesome job tidying up Professor! Dropping her arm from her face she inhaled a breath of fresh and looked around the room. "Hello Professor," she greeted warmly making way for her usual desk giving Adi and slight nod of her head in greeting as she passed him. |
Where had all of these cobwebs come from? And where had all of the spiders that made the webs come from? She had seen a few house elves cleaning around the castle, so perhaps the problem was not the house elves, but more spiders than usual. If this was true, where did all of the spiders come from? Entering the classroom, Penelope noticed that the classroom was just as dusty and covered in cobwebs as the corridor. "Hello Professor Glendower!" She noticed something moving near the corner of her eye. It was just a loose strand of hair... Or was it? There was something moving on her hair. Penelope pulled the section of hair in question to the front of her face and found herself staring at a spider. How did that get there? "There's a spider in my hair." There was a SPIDER IN HER HAIR! Not that she was scared of spiders or anything like that. Penelope just stood there staring at the spider that was crawling on her hair. It was sort of interesting to watch, but that did not mean that it could stay in her hair. How was she supposed to get it off of her? |
Was that Make an entrance sign over-endowed with magical protections? How did it manage to stay so clean and free of all dust and dirt despite the look of everything around it? And hello, Hogwarts had a spider problem as evidenced from this and the wall in the dungeons. Cutty thought about catching one and then training it to do his evil bidding. Mostly, seeing if it might be interesting in life as a collections officer. He took out his wand, pointed it at the soles of his shoes and after opening the door proceeded to gliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide in. He'd used a spell to make his shoes slippery so that he could more or less ice skate in, which upon hearing the music Glendower was humming he choreographed accordingly. "Nice tune, Professor. Kinda ja...!" He abruptly hit his thigh against the back of his desk chair and stopped. "Jazzy." He finished with a smile. |
Toby had grown accustomed to dusty and cobwebby corridors and classrooms by now, though the cobwebs still made him think of spiders. Aside from being unnerved by that, it made him feel weirdly nostalgic; Toby's first term had been a term of major budget cuts AND a significant lack of house elves, and everything had been all grimy and dusty and dirty. In a way, this made him think of that. It was weirdly poetic... y'know... first term, last term sort of thing. He DID notice the lack of cobwebs on the sign however, even as unobservant as he usually was. As a result, Toby poked his head curiously inside the room before stepping inside properly, trying to scout out if the inside of the room was as clean as... the sign. Soooooo... that could probably count as his ENTRANCE, right? Because for a moment Toby totally forgot about making a proper entrance, and so had to belated tack on some dramatic JAZZ HANDS as he went over to his usual seat by the window. "Hey, Professor Glendower," the Hufflepuff said as he took his seat and started setting up. Then he noticed what looked like broom handles propped up at the front of the room, and instantly began craning his neck to get a proper look and see if they were the FLYING kind of broom? Would they be flying? Pleeeeease? WAS IT THAT KIND OF BROOM? HE COULDN'T TELL. Toby seemed to realise what he was doing after a moment or two, paused suddenly, and went back to sitting properly in his seat, fidgeting with his quill as per usual. Nothing untoward here. Nope. |
Ewww. What was with all the dust and cobwebs? It wasn't like the elves to slack off on their duties. She made a face. This time for her entrance, Lux decided to do a moonwalk. She was pretty good at it if she said so herself. Hehe. "Hello, Professor Glendower. I hope you are well." About to ask if the woman needed any help, she noticed that most of the tidying up seemed to be done already. She did wonder what was in the boxes as she waved to her friends and took a seat near the front of the class. |
Angel was walking around trying to think about what she was going to do to make an entrance to the lesson when she suddenly noticed all the cobwebs. She started to walk a bit then she suddenly noticed something. They were being invaded by spiders and she heard that Hogwarts had some very strange spiders, like kid eating ones, right? "ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRR!!!" Angel screamed, running towards the History of Magic Classroom, yeah it would be safe in their right. Angel suddenly saw Benny and went and hid behind him, peaking up she noticed the Professor. "Hi Professor, hope your well." Angel had to remember to be polite but after that, she went and hid behind her boyfriend, peeking around him every so often. |
What in the freaking name of Merlin? Grayson wasn't exactly the fussy type but all this dust was getting kinda ridiculous, wasn't it? Dude had never seen the castle so dirty and it only got annoying when tiny clouds of dust flew up whenever there was a stampede of people running from one class to another. At this rate, there was gonna be more dust and cobwebs at Hogwarts than drama and that was saying a lot. His entrance? His presence was enough of an entrance, thank you. And he couldn't be bothered to think of a proper entrance that wouldn't embarrass him beyond compare but c'mon, that didn't sound as good of an answer. So strutting was happening. "Heeeeey, Professor Glendower," he said, shooting her a small smile and a nod of his head. Glendower was nice and always seemed to find a way to make her lessons interesting, even if it was at the expense of embarrassing them at the same time. But interesting. A bit like those brooms over there. Grayson shot a curious look in that direction as he made his way towards a seat. Here's hoping that they weren't gonna be made to clean up the classroom because how freaking boring would that be? Once seated, he looked away from the brooms to wink over at Cutty, whom he decided to sit next to. 'Sup, Mordaunt. |
You couldn't really enjoy a stroll down a cobweb invested hall when you weren't on your hands and knees. Crawling about and popping her gum, she investigated the spider situation. Yeah, she already had a jar of pet spiders up in her common room, but what girl couldn't use another? Pop. Crawl. Smack. Crawl. Surely there would be more spiders towards the floor. Out of sight... AJ blew a HUGE bubble with her gum when she heard a scream. A scream that sounded an awful lot like it belonged to her sister. POP! The gum remnants were all over her face, and she stood up and ran to the classroom. Looking inside with wild eyes, she noticed her sister was hiding behind Benny. "Wha--" A scream like that meant certain death. AJ was sure of it. As it turns out her sister was just being a diva about something. Figures. She rolled her eyes and tucked the wand she didn't remember taking out from her back pocket back into it's rightful place. "Hey Ben. Hey Adi," she said as she pawed at the gum pieces stuck to her face. Oh erm... she was supposed to make an entrance. She swallowed her gum, bit her bottom lip and bowed. "Hello professor... lovely broom you have." Ahem. |
Okay. There were these cobwebs again. What the heck was going on? Did someone forget to clean the castle or something!? Normally, it didn't really bother the Gryffindor, but Merlin this was getting rather ridiculous. Something should seriously be done about this. Just saying. Also the familiar sign was to be expected, except for Zander didn't know what kind of entrance to make this time. You'd think it'd become easier to think of creative ways to enter a classroom? WRONG. After being creative so many times in a row, he was starting to lose inspiration. So he settled with a lame walking in backwards. He'd think of something better for the next time. Maybe he could attempt the juggling trick again? And this time not drop all the books? It was worth a shot. He'd have to try it out next time. It was decided. "Hello, Professor!" He wasn't going to comment on the cobwebs. She probably couldn't get rid of them either. Ahem. Then he slowly made his way over near Grayson and Cutty to take a seat near them. Hi Slytherin friends. |
With a big smile on her face she walked into the History of Magic classroom. She was still happy about finally being seventeen but she was also pretty scared about it! She was considered an adult in the Wizarding World and could apparate and stuff! How was that not awesome? "Good Afternoon Professor Glendower." She said with a smile and a wave. "How are you today?" The Sixth year asked as she took a seat in the front row. Emmylou looked around the classroom to see who was here. As she looked around she also saw cobwebs. She was in such a good mood that not even a dusty cobweb filled room could bring her down. She sent a small wave over to Lux and a wave and a "Hello." to PREFECT Zander. |
Henric had a new hairdo today, it had been cut short to a point whereby he didn't have to put hairgel anymore. His hair colour had changed to even more darker brown now.He wondered if anyone he knew noticed the changes he made to his appearance. And when he walked up to the History of Magic classroom, he couldn't help notice the cobwebs hanging everywhere around him. It was like a spider's nest in here. He swept away the cobwebs attached to his clothes and greeted the professor. "Hello professor, nice to see you again, its a little dusty in here,I can help with the cleaning if you want after class,"he smiled. He then headed to his usual seat at the back. He spotted Adi...and Benny...they seemed to make up already. He didn't say anything towards them and just sat a few seats away from the bestfriends. He didn't want Benny to think he was stealing his bestfriend away again. He quietly took out his parchment and waited for the class to start. |
SPOILER!!: Nice buzz cuz Ilia filed into class amongst her fellow students, still scanning the ground everywhere she walked. She was still hoping to randomly find her toad daughter somewhere. From the moment Henric told her, she had not stopped hoping or looking. She paused in her search long enough to look up at the professor with a faint smile. " Hello professor. " Her eyes shifted to the rest of the classroom, searching for the only person that made her feel truly secure. It took her a moment of staring at him to process that it was him and she wasn't imagining things. That was absolutely her best friend, his hair had taken a 180 shift though. It looked good, but it was quite different. Sitting beside him, a soft , curious smile touched her lips. " What a change." The little blonde gently brushed the new style with her finger tips. " It looks good on you though." It did look rather fetching on him. Had he gotten taller too? Her best friend was starting to mature and starting his transition to being a man. He wasn't much older than herself. Had she begun to change without realising it too? |
As Janelle made her way to History of Magic class, she noticed that things seemed a tad.......dusty. If that wasn't bad enough, there were cobwebs everywhere. Fortunately, she hadn't seen any spiders.......yet. Janelle didn't mind spiders and random bugs if they were outside, but inside? That was just a big no. Before she entered the classroom, the familiar "Make an Entrance" sign greeted Janelle. You would think that by now, she would have a list of entrances ready. Unfortunately, she did not. On the spot, she decided to do jumping jacks on her way into the classroom. "Hello Professor Glendower", Janelle said cheerfully. She wanted to ask what was up with the cobwebs, but she kept it to herself. Finding a seat, the second year got her things ready and waited for class to begin. |
Kate walked down the first floor corridor on the way to History of Magic class. This reminded her--she should really start working more on those journal entries she needed to do. She'd only done two so far. She eyed the cobwebs. What was the deal with those things anyway? Kate knew the castle was old, but she at least thought they'd keep it clean. Walking through the door, Kate glanced up toward the professor. "Hello, Professor," she said, giving the lady a smile. There were boxes and brooms around the room, but Kate guessed she would figure out why in just a little bit. She took a seat and waited for the lesson to get underway. |
Make an entrance? While she was sneezing and dying? It was hard to focus enough on the task at hand, finding a seat and breathing and walking at the same time, let alone putting on a show. Dot tugged her tie up around her nose and curtsied politely for the professor's benefit. ACHOO. "G'day, Professor." She looked for a desk that was as clean and bright as possible. Erm... why were they stuck up in the dirty bit of the school? |
Eden had never seen so many cobwebs in HER LIFE...not EVEN at those fake haunted houses during Halloween. Merlin. That was gross...Eden wanted if she should try to scourgify some of them as she walked in--but she just slipped into the classroom and took a seat...she was never one to make a huge entrance, anyways. "Good day, Professor--" she said softly as she flipped through her notebook to a fresh page for today's note taking. And she thought about maybe seeing the elves about cleaning the cobwebs...hmmm. |

Okay, good, it was about time to begin and she took to the front of the room. "Good day class! First, I must apologize for the cobwebs on the way into the room. I'm not sure what's going on there... Luckily I was early enough here today to clean up the classroom before you all arrived, so at least we have a clean room to hold our lesson." The state of this whole floor was a little ridiculous and she wasn't sure if she somehow annoyed the elves that they didn't want to clean her little area of the castle or what. Perhaps she could make amends, though she knew of at least a couple other areas that weren't cobweb-free either. And even though her class announcement did ask students to wear comfortable clothes for today, that still didn't make it okay to get dirty while they were getting some History of Magic edutainment. Pushing those thoughts aside, she focused on her lesson for the day. "I was hoping to have a light-hearted fun lesson today.. and I think a great topic for that would be games. We are going to talk about games throughout history. Let's start by naming some games, favorite or not. Please try not to repeat anything as there are plenty of games. Or mention something about one other than just the name if someone took your answer." |

When the spider had been removed, Penelope found a seat and took out parchment and a quill for taking notes. They were going to focus on games today? This lesson, like all of Professor Glendower's lessons, would be fun. What games did she know about? There were plenty of games to choose from. "Gobstones." She liked playing gobstones and she had participated in a few matches. |
Zhenya settled into her seat to start the lesson. The cobwebs were a bit freaky, and she knew what little critter created those things... so she was a bit on edge at the thought of spiders being near her. UGH. She tried to lose her mind in the subject; games! Maybe they would spend the lesson playing some games or something? That would be fun. Zhenya had a think of some games that she had played as a child and raised her hand, "Exploding Snap, I still play that game. One of my favourites." |
SPOILER!!: Before class Games? He had plenty of games in his head he could actually list them all.Plenty of computer muggle games though...he wondered if they were valid answers for the History of Magic professor. He didn't think she would know any of the games he played anyway so maybe not. He thought of a more safe answer and raised his hand,"Professor, what about water balloon game?" They played with water balloons before in Astronomy class before.Yep. |
Angel smiled as she went from behind Benny to sitting near him, seriously this was awesome and the Professor didn't seem mad with her screaming either. Did she scare anyone at all? she hoped not it wouldn't have been nice though did her sister get covered in bubble-gum because of her? She had come in just after her after all. Angel raised her hand after the Professor spoke. "There is a board game that muggles have called perfect wedding." Angel's knew what her perfect wedding would be but there was no need to tell anyone else, and she didn't really know of any wizard games over than exploding snap and gobstones which had already been mentioned. |
Marsha didn’t particularly like cobwebs, or webcobs as her mam called them when she was little to make her giggle, but she didn’t mind spiders when she saw them… Or at least from experience she didn’t but she hadn’t seen any really large, magical ones yet so she held the right to not like them. However, this was History of Magic time and that meant Professor Glendower… who was awesome. Though, since they were still making their manuscripts, she wondered what class would be about today. Slipping into the classroom, she had waved and smiled Nessarose as she did a quick rolling cartwheel and then got out of the way of the door. Marsha looked around for somewhere to sit, and smiled at the empty seat next to Cutty. ”Hi Cutty, can I sit here?” Just incase he was saving the seat for someone else… obviously it was just polite. When he gave her a nod, she slid into the seat and took out her materials for note-taking. ”How are you today?” She asked while giving him a once over, trying to figure out if he was feeling better or worse than the last time she had seen him. OH. They were starting, awesome. Games? Games…. Nice! ”Well, Professor there is obviously Quidditch… Which can be played at many different levels, such as just for fun, at school and I believe there is an under 17s league as well as the actual leagues around Britain and the world.” Yup, her … Granda’s sister was a coach and she loved it. Hehe. |
"I am well, thanks" Hady replied in response to Professor Glendowers greeting. Sitting up a little taller and straighter in her chair the third year watched all her friends and fellow classmates enter the room. A few of the entrances managed to make her smile a little bit. Before long the lesson was beginning and her full attention was at the front of the room with the professor. A large grin formed on her face when she heard they were going to have a fun lesson and talk about different games. Lots and lots of games. Being a witch yet growing up mostly around muggles Hady knew tons and tons of games. So this questions was a simple one as she raised her hand into the air and gave her answer, "There's wizards chess, the muggles also have a form of chess they play however the pieces don't move at all." The same idea however but the wizards put a little spin on the game having the pieces move where they were told and attack the other players pieces to take it's spot. It was actually quite cool to play and just to watch. |
Games? He can do games. They've been doing games in almost all of their classes that term, so he was up for it. Question is, will they team up again with Gryffindor? While he listened to the professor up front, Ethan was busy picking out cobwebs off of his hair. As he did so, he placed the remnants on Cutty's head, who was seated in front of him. Nothing to see here, professor. Just a bit of 'brotherly love', that's all. Oh and what was the question? Games, eh? Ethan waved a hand in the air, and answered the question. "Quodpot, professor." Not that it's his favourite game, but that little girl over there who was seated beside his cousin mentioned Quidditch, so the other variant came into mind instantly. Putting his hand back down, Ethan kept on pulling out cobwebs from his hair. "Er...just washed my hair today! Seriously..." Oh and about the dusty first floor? It was worse now, compared to the last time he was talking to Lady Iris. The entire hallway was covered with dust and cobwebs, and not just the portraits. Huh. |
Cobwebs, Urgh. Seriously, what was wrong with this classroom? He wasn't sure that Glendower let her classroom like this. Tsk tsk tsk.... The Korean guy was busy cleaning of the webs at his shoulder. Ewww... And now back to the lesson. Professor Glendower asked them about games. Hmm... They're gonna be playing games again, right? He was about to mention gobstones since he's the player of the match when Gryffindor played against Slytherin. Hehehe. But somebody had mentioned it before, damn it. "Wizard chess, Professor. I don't really enjoy it by the way." Jackson answered as he raised up his hand to the air. |
Janelle turned her attention to Professor Glendower as she began to speak. It was time for class to begin. As the Professor began to explain the topic for today's class, Janelle couldn't help but smile. Games. Oh this was going to be fun. She liked games, any kind of competition really. Before she could wonder what game they might be playing, there was a question. Janelle's hand shot into the air. She had a game to name, but unfortunately she was not fast enough. Someone beat her to the punch. With her answer already mentioned, Janelle had to do some quick thinking. Her possible choices were dwindling by the second and she was having a hard time thinking of more games. Then she remembered something. "There's a game called Shuntbumps." Janelle had never played it, but it sounded like a lot of fun to her. |
GaaassSSSSPPPPP! Toby's hand shot straight up at that question. He had an answer that didn't even HAVE to spring to mind because it was ALWAYS on his mind. "QUID-... oh." Oh. Someone else had already mentioned it; he'd not initially processed that fact on account of his enthusiasm. Sooooo, Toby lowered his hand again, and seconds later it was BACK UP in the air. "Quid-... wait..." AGAIN, he lowered his hand. NO, Toby. C'mon, get your head in the game. Wait... game. UP went his hand. "QUI-... rahhh, I mean... uh..." THINKTHINKTHINK "Creaoeaoaoethceoanananan. Or something. It's a game that was banned, because it was super dangerous. I don't know how to say it. Creathaceanonon?" Creaothceann was the word Toby had been going for, but he'd only ever read it before, in his battered and well-read copy of Quidditch Through the Ages. And throughout all the years of reading the bizarre words, he'd never found out how to say it, so in his HEAD it was jibberish, which... was now an issue. "Createtheoceannaneaon???" The point was, he knew a thing. A HISTORY thing, too, so this was big. Okay, he only knew it from Quidditch reading, but still. There were... probably some much easier answers to have given. ... #YOLO |
Adi piled his books and equipment onto his desk, flicking his eyes at the covered things and brooms in front of the class. Oh! There was the guy bestie! A sneezing one too. "Heya, Benny.'' He pointed to the seat next to him. Yep, the sneezing Dragon was sitting next to him today. "I'm surprised you haven't sneezed fire and smoke.'' Hehe. Adi looked back in time at the entrance to see AJ and her bubble. HAHAHA! She looked funny. And Angel O__O He was not going to ask what was up with that entrance. "Hey, AJ, Hey, Angel.'' The Hufflepuff did notice Henric and his new hairdo. Plus he also noted Ilia checking it out. He smirked. Something was up with those two. Mhmmm. .................... Annnnnd class was starting! WOOT! They were going to talk about games? Professor Glendy was on a roll with her fun classes, yo! Not that this was anything new. She always made her lessons fun even though he had not put that over properly to her in the last class. the thought of that embarrassed him and he quickly re-focused on the present lesson by raising his hand. "Cricket, Professor!'' was his WAAAAAAAY enthusiastic reply. Cricket... his beloved cricket. But.... wasn't that more of a sport than a game? Ehhh... who cared? CRICKET! :loved: |
. . Gabriel readjusted himself in his seat and nervously glanced around. Someone had already mentioned HIS game, unfortunately...Wizarding Chess...or simply Chess. Gabes were especially good at this game...as it revolved around strategy and focus. Also, it helped him with his anxiety issues at times...but that was... That was something different altogether. "Would.....dueling be considered a game?" |
Oooooohhh GAMES. This was already going to be loads of fun, she could tell. Even if it meant no coloring. Norah beamed at Professor Glendower as she recorded each of her classmates' answers in her notes. The only issue with that was that by the time she'd put her hand in the air to answer, she didn't have any ideas that hadn't been mentioned yet. Uh. Did they have to be wizard games or could they be any games? As she couldn't remember if the professor had specified, the fourth year answered, "Well, muggles play football a lot. People from all over play that one." She'd SEEN them at it. With a small shrug, she brought her hand down again. It WAS a game, anyways. Wizards could probably play it too, if they wanted. Wasn't nearly as fun as fling though. |
Benny shook his head as Professor Glendower showed concern over his sneezing. "I think its the cobwebs," he mused. They were made up enough dust to send anyone sneezing. He couldn't help being happy as Adi motioned for him to sit next to him which he did. It was only a few moments before Angel came running in and screaming, coming to a rest behind him seemingly scared of something, "You okay?" he asked his turn to be concerned. Thankfully he could relax when it appeared to be her entrance. Too bad AJ apparently hadn't thought of that as she came running in worried. And covered in bubble gum. And then their was Henric...with a new look. Okay that got a confused look briefly from the Gryffindor. But then he relized he really didn't care. He mught be back with Adi but he and the younger Hufflepuff had a way to go. Besides the professor was starting the class so it was there that his focus needed to be. He only had to think of a game to offer and quidditch and gobstones was already mentioned. Um...why did he feel weird when Angel suggested her game? "There's a muggle game called Scrabble," he offered after raising his hand. Granted he had seen wizards play it but it came from the muggle world. |
Eden wondered what professors loved about GAMES this term. They either wanted to focus their classes around a game, like in here, or like...PLAY a game. It was fun, yeah, and consistent, so Eden didn't mind, but she was just so curious. She raised her hand. "There's a muggle board game called MONOPOLY--I think it might be AMERICAN, too, I'm not sure--but it's so COOL and like--I think we should totally make a magic one because it would be AWESOME and we could do like, instead of the four railroad, different magical ways to TRAVEL--" she stopped herself before she went on. Ahem. "Yeah. Monopoly." |
Games. There were so many out there, and her classmates had said most of the ones Kate could think of right off the top of her head. As soon as she had her hand raised, she heard the voice of somebody else calling out the very idea she had. Kate lowered her hand and thought it over. There was wizarding games and then there was muggle games. Then there were the games both witches, wizards, and muggles played. So what hadn't been named yet? "There's the Magical Symbols Game," Kate said, raising her hand. She remembered hearing about how it had appeared in the Daily Prophet at one time or another. |
The cobwebs didn't bother her. Not really. They got in her way and...okay, so they did annoy her, but this was Hogwarts. She had given up hope of it becoming a normal school. Whatever that was because she for sure did not know that. Steering her thoughts back to the lesson she thought about games. She's played tons of them either with Kennedy or Danny or Jeremiah. Some mentioned by her classmates sounded familiar, and before hers was said, she raised her hand. "There's a board game named Trouble." You hit the little bopping thing. Heh. That was always fun. Hitting things. |

"Would 'Stichstock' be an acceptable answer professor?" She asked upon her turn. Her slight accent showed through at the pronunciation of the originally German word. She did say games, she did not specify ancient or currently relevant. Besides, she was pretty certain that her uncles had played it before. |
Games? Oh sure... Dot knew loads of games. She was an expert with games, even if she made a lot of them up. And the rules changed every time she played them. That was the way to know if someone was really your friend, they let you change the rules mid-game. What was a for-real game, though? "Musical Broomsticks, Professor. We used to play that at birthday parties when I was little." |
Still not sure whether or not that was Angel's entrance or if she had actually been spooked, AJ plopped down in a chair nearby the trio. AJ beamed at the professor's response. "You're welcome." Unless those were brooms they could fly into the air, she really wasn't that in love with them. Mainly she was trying to take away from the gum all over her face. Anywho, the lesson was starting. Games. Ohhh... this was going to be another fun lesson. The lion listened thoughtfully to the answers everybody else gave. When something came to mind, she raised her hand. "There is jump rope. It's even more fun when two people hold the rope and you get to jump in the middle. Add in an extra rope and you have a party." So much fun. |
Text Cut: Grayson, Zander & Marsha "Blackjack, Professor." He said putting his hand in the air. "It's a card game where value amounts are assigned to the cards and yer object is ter get yer hand to add up to 21 and not more than. It's not really for kiddos, though." Which was why he explained it in case any of the students hadn't been familiarized yet with gambling card games. Cutty himself had never tried it. Shhh. |
They were going to be learning about games?? AWESOME. Lux was down for anything that involved games because they were always fun. She was loving all the activities the Professors were doing this term because they were a blast and provided a good distraction from sads. There were a few suggestions she could offer in response to the first question, but a lot of her classmates had beat her to them. Instead, she took out her notebook and started writing down the examples. |
Games? Like...board games? Caleb knew of a few, mainly because his Uncle had a bunch of them at his house when he was growing up and he'd seen commercials for them. He'd only played a few though. Some of the ones people were naming were totally unknown to him, but he had a few he could name, at least. He raised his hand. "There's a muggle game called Perfection, you have to put these pieces into the correct space and there are a LOT, it's kind of like a puzzle, and if you don't do it before the timer goes off the whole thing EXPLODES!" he cried. A bit of an exaggeration but you know, same thing. |

But back to the discussion. Nessa nodded happily at the Ravenclaw as she was the first to offer an answer. “Gobstones is indeed a fun game.” She didn’t quite get all the rules, or at least she could never tell who was winning or losing, but she did enjoy watching the school games with Cassie. “Okay, so I just wanted us to generate a list of games that we play or ones that we don’t but have been played at some point. And that was a good start.” There were still a bunch of games not named, but they didn’t need them all, she just wanted to get them in that mindset. And she wasn’t going to write anything on the board. If they wanted to jot down some things in their notes, that would be fine. “Before we move on, let’s continue talking about games in a discussion. Why do we play games? Think about the ones you like best, and ones you never want to play. What is it about those games that make it that way for you? “And, while you are thinking about that.. a couple of the games that were mentioned are no longer played. There are actually plenty of games that were played at one point in history that are no longer played. You can take a look in your book for some others, if you are wanting to know.” She wasn’t going to name any more as she did want to keep the discussion moving and they had plenty of other things to get to. “Why do you think some games become outdated while others stand the test of time? Many of the games that we play today were invented years ago… why are they still popular while others die out?” Just a little food for thought before they moved on. |
Emmylou didn't really know what to say for games. Did Professor Glendower mean board games or just games in general? What about hide and seek? That's a game or cops and robbers or manhunt. Those were just muggle games and the manhunt one is too scary for Emmylou. She knew now that she should have asked that question before. Now back to the second question. Why do we play games? It was a discussion so she didn't have to raise her hand. "I think as humans we need something to do when we're bored. I also think it's good for get togethers or little parties that people have where some people don't know each other." The sixth year nodded and smiled. "It's really good for social interaction. Depending on the type of game it can make people think and help open their minds to different ideas and help them problem solve." She was pretty proud of her input! Really what was the worst that could happen? People wouldn't agree with her answer because they don't have the same opinion as her? That wasn't bad at all. |
Kace heard Professor Glendower's question and thought about it. Why did he continue to play the games he loved with his family while there was some he couldn't stand. He raised his hand to answer, "Well Professor the reason I continue to play the games I love is because you already know the rules. I mean it is simple and easy. I like games with simple rules and are easy to explain to others. I don't like games that take too long like Chess. I prefer Quidditch where I am involved in the action without too much thinking involved." he shrugged. I mean he was pretty smart he just wasn't into the logical thinking aspect too much. Now onto the outdated question. He thought about it and gave his thoughts. "Well I think games become outdated because they are overplayed. You get bored easily with a game you have played time and time again. I think it is all due to you being determined to playing the game. You need to be in the right mindset." That is how he felt. He was gonna be quiet now and let someone else speak. |
How disappointing. Professor Glendy did not know what cricket was. Adi shook his head, wishing more persons would follow the sport. Cricket WAS invented in England, after all. Cue le sigh. Ah, well. Time to answer those questions! The Hufflepuff raised his hand. "We play games for leisure and just to have a good time or if we want to get involved in something more active we play those games.'' Er, he had no memory exactly why he had started with cricket. Adi just knew that one day he had picked up a bat, hit a ball and broken a neighbour's window during a game he and his friends were playing. Hehe. "I like playing cricket for Kace's reason. The action. Plus, I'm good at it.'' He had trophies to prove that, you know. "I think some games survived longer than others because the games that died out may have just being too boring for some and never caught on. New and exciting games came along and everyone got caught up in those.'' With his thoughts give, Adi now lowered his hand. |
WELL Glendower didn't SPECIFY and Eden was more familiar with muggle games, anyways, since she was raised MUGGLEY. So she just nodded as Glendower accepted all the answers...and BEAMED when she said Eden's THINKING was good. HEH. GOOD. Now, why did some games die out? Eden raised her hand. "Well, society as a whole changes gradually over time, and our ideas of fun gradually change, too. Like the ancient Greeks and Roman used to watch people fight to the death for fun, too--but now, we'd be appalled at such a sport--though, Quidditch is pretty close, eh?" she smirked to herself. "But like I was saying--I think we just...change, as a whole, on what we find fun and entertaining. Some things will always be fun, in essence, but the rules change slightly depending on the society." AHEM. |
Did Eden just say that Quidditch was like sports where people fought to the death? Toby looked nothing short of HURT at that. People didn't die playing Quidditch, not these days anyway, and Toby would never associate himself with anything where that kind of thing was considered fun. He sat there fiddling with his parchment for a moment, absentmindedly rolling in the corners of it until he'd accidentally made it so it would no longer lie flat on the desk. Oops. Eventually, though, Toby got over it and raised his hand. "Maybe it's kinda like anything, how things go in and out of fashion. Like clothes and stuff, except games and sports stick around for longer. Things go out of favour 'cause they don't appeal to people anymore, maybe 'cause of danger. Even Quidditch used to be really different, it's been changed to be safer and so Snidgets aren't used anymore and everything, except it kept the name and the basic rules so technically it's still the same thing. I think things just naturally change and stuff when people's attitudes towards it change. Like society and stuff." Yeah? Yeaahhhh. |
Quote:
With no reason to raise her hand Hady reached into her bag and pulled out her textbook flipping it open to the correct chapter so she could take a quick glance at some of the games listed there. Not lingering to long on her reading, she could read more later she also pulled from her bag a quill and some parchment on which she quickly began taking down notes in her small neat handwriting while waiting on the next question. |
SPOILER!!: Glendower It WAS a game. It totally was. At least the way that she and her friends played it. "Oh boy can I!!!" It just so happened that AJ had quite the imagination. In fact, ever since she realized she was a witch certain things came to mind all the time when it came to improving things with magic. The possibilities were endless, really. "A self jumping rope. That way you can do all sort of sweet tricks without having anybody hold the rope. That way everybody can jump at once... make it more of a challenge. We could even make it more fun by eliminating anybody that touches the rope." Or a little magical shock. Too much? An interesting question. Well, AJ had a pretty straightforward and easy answer. "Because some games are boring.com... only those that are super cool can stand the test of time." She figured she would be countered with something along the lines of "what one person likes might not be the same for the next person" Yeah, she got it. But, lame games without any excitement were well, lame. "I play games that get my heart pumping. My attention needs to be grabbed and I need to be totally engrossed. I'm very competitive by nature though." So, she wanted to win even at the lame games. |
Oh. So muggle games didn't count, then? Good thing she hadn't mentioned any of the games she and her brothers had made up, 'cause those would probably be even less relevant. It was a shame, really, because those were the best ones. Norah recorded as many of the magical games whose names she could catch, before setting her quill down so she wouldn't be distracted while she thought about the next question. She put a hand in the air and, when she was called on, said, "I know people grow out of games just in their lifetimes so maybe as whole entire groups of people, like the entire wizarding community and stuff, grow and change, their interests in games changes too. Like the whole society grows out of it or something. Some of them stay, though, just like when you grow up I think there are things you don't grow out of liking just like there's stuff you do grow out of liking." Yeah, she was never going to grow out of liking chocolate frogs. No WAY. |
So...were they going to play said games? Apparently not, they headed towards more discussion. One that Beverly didn't mind because it opened up to a broad subject. Why did they play games? There was a lot that contributed to that. Beverly had a crazy thought. She raised her hand. "I sometimes think that some games are like fairy-tales. They originated in a more dark and violent setting and over generations they have been tamed down. I think games have a familiar history. Some have evolved, becoming less dangerous and more fun." That depended on what your personal definition of fun was. "As to why we play, it could be, like it was mentioned, because of boredom. Sometimes it can also be comfort. A familiar game that remind a person of the great times from their youth or something." The spectrum went on and on. |
For a minute there, it looked like the professor had no idea what game Kate was referring to. Then realization dawned on her, which Kate was grateful for, since she didn't really know enough about it to explain things any further. Kate nodded along when the professor mentioned that it was a good game to play when you didn't have anybody else to play a game with. Having thoughts on the next question, Kate raised her hand again. "I think it's because over time, our interests change as the world around us changes. For example, muggles have had lots of development in technology over time, so a lot of their games have moved to computers or other systems that use technology," she said. "I also think it's because we make improvements over time, and everything becomes bigger, better, and faster." Or safer..., like some of the broom-related games. |
Janelle took notes as her classmates talked about various games. Some she had heard of and some she had not. Most of the muggle games were familiar to her, but not quite all of them were. Then more questions were asked about magical games and Janelle raised her hand to respond. "I think we play games because they're fun. They help us let off steam and if you're competitive like I am, it satisfies your need for competition." What could she say, Janelle liked to win. The next question was not quite so easy to answer. Why did some games become outdated? Hmmmm. Janelle was not so sure about that one. "Maybe the games that stay popular are the ones that are easy to learn and play.......and.......that aren't related to anything from a particular time period," Did that make any sense? Janelle had a little trouble trying to explain exactly what she meant on that one. |
Make an entrance. She always tried to come up with some ah-mazing idea to making her entrance. She normally just done a lot of flips and cartwheels. One time she even walked into the classroom on her hands. She wanted to one up those ones and do something that no one would expect from her. Which that was hard. Who knew what to expect from her really? Making the trek down through the cobwebbed filled halls she headed into the history of magic classroom with a big grin on her face. [size="3"]"Gooooood morning, History of Magic!!!." and Jazz fingers. Hehehe. She looked around and blinked. Craaaap. Or not. She was late? How was she late? She turned to Professor Glendower "I'm so sorry, professor Glendower." Maybe she got the time wrong on the lesson. The sixth year flopped into the closest empty desk. Great way to make an entrance, Bayless. Now where were they in the lesson? What were they learning today? |
Angel listened to what the Professor said, well she was muggle and had never been to a party with wizard games, the Professor would invite them to one soon right. "Professor I love playing musical chairs because well everyone can take part and you can have loads of fun though sometimes people spoil it by cheating and trying to take the chair." Angel giggled as she thought about a few time she had played the game when she was younger. "I hated pass the parcel, because you never knew what is in the thing and you might not get anything at all." Angel was sure wizard played that game right, it was a game for everyone and you could wrap anything up, she thought it might be cool if you put a wand in there and the winner played with it for a day. |
Lux listened to Professor Glendower as she continued to take notes. She was really curious as to what the main activity would be because there were so many games to choose from. Hopefully it would be something fun like capture the flag! At the next question she raised her hand. "Like others have said, times change and games can get boring. I think a lot of the games that remain popular are ones that make social or cultural impacts. Different cultures have their own games, so they would remain popular within that demographic." If that made sense. She tried to think of any examples, but none were coming to her at the moment. Major fail. |
Nessa really enjoyed a good discussion, almost as much as the activity part of class, and she thought today's was especially fun. Goodness, students had such good, insightful answers. And as this was more of an opinion-based discussion, no one was really incorrect. She more wanted to see what they thought and get them thinking and interacting with each other's answers. "Wonderful thoughts, everyone!" She beamed at the class as a whole. "Just to sum up some of the answers, some of the reasons why we like to play games might simply be for entertainment or as a boredom-buster, it can be a great way for social interaction or to make new friends, and some games lend themselves to problem-solving or allowing us to open our minds to new ideas. Some people play games to be more physically active rather than intellectually active, but then there games that challenge both! It all depends on personal preference." And that was one thing that she liked about games, there was such a variety to choose from. There were probably other reasons to play games, but these were great thoughts and they could probably end there. Quote:
Now.. where was she? Oh, right.. reasons why some games died out while others grew in popularity. "Good reasoning about why some games flourish while others fade, also. We have come a long way as a society over the years - changing and evolving - and many of our games have as well, either for safety reasons or just our idea of fun. What your great-grandmother thought was a good time when she was a teenager, might not be the same thing you think is fun today. And, unfortunately, sometimes the way to learn about what safety measures to include is for someone to get hurt. Some of the more dangerous games might have evolved to include some safer alternatives or have completely died out altogether." Or like Toby mentioned, Quidditch now included a ball instead of a bird to preserve its existence. "Typically people in general like things that can grab your attention and keep it. Please keep that in mind for later when we begin our main activity. Also note some of the things your classmates have said about incorporating magic into games and toys that don't normally have it." Maybe she wasn't being forthcoming just yet, but they'd understand soon enough. Using her wand, Nessa uncovered half of the boxes and sent them towards the center front of the room along with the half dozen flying brooms she had brought to class today. The rest of the boxes remained covered and against the front wall for now. "In these boxes," she started, gesturing to the ones now uncovered. "You will find a wide variety of magical games - exploding snap, gobstones, wizard chess, wizard skittles, among other things in there." She couldn't quite remember what all she had put in there. "Oh and there are a few brooms since there are quite a few flying games. But do be careful if you try out one of those. Don't kick anyone in the head. Go ahead and try some out. Play one of your favorites or try something you haven't before. Take a little time to get into a game playing mindset before we move on to our main activity for the day." |
*mentions Cinna* Eden nodded and listened to all of that STUFF that Glendower was spewing out at them--she was writing furiously in her notebook. It reminded her of the summer, of working with the snidgets, especially when Toby mentioned them. HEHE. And what the heck was Cinna doing walking in all late and stuff? Eden tried to meet her gaze, and held up her notebook. "China...I'll let you copy my notes after class..." she whispered softly, to her...friend? She considered Cinna a friend, yes, mhmm. And she was trying to be helpful and stuff. But she had to acquaint herself with a game...hmm...Eden wanted to try her hands at wizards' chess. She was lousy at regular chess, so chances were...she was SUPER lousy at this. But it seemed fun and borderline VIOLENT, which was what the Ravenclaw was in the mood for. SO. Chess it was. She sifted through the box to find a set and took one out...hmm. HHMMM. Time to...uh...get familiar or whatever. |
Notes, notes, notes. Not much to make here since so many of the stuff here were common sense answers but that didn't mean that Adi didn't make any. His classmates' replies were all jotted down in point format in his book. Ohh! So that was what Glendower had in those boxes! Adi wasted no time to make his way to the box to hunt through them. Why not go for something he hadn't tried before? Wizards Chess was perfect. He had never found the urge to play the game since it confused the heck out of him but hey, at least he could get to converse with the little people! Sort of. Hehe. Adi took the set back to his seat. "Do you know anything about this, Benny?" The bestie never had mentioned much about chess before. |
Catch up Henric preferred listening to his classmates answers. He could totally relate because he used to get bored too after playing the same game over and over again. He agreed, some non-traditional games were just too outdated and people tend to forget them over time.He continued listening to the professor explanation about games throughout history while taking bullet-point notes at the same time. He glanced over at the boxes and wondered what wizard games were available for him to choose from. He wasn't a wizard game expert anyway. He turned to llia,"What do you want to play?"he asked. |
Quote:
After a moment she heard her best friend's voice. What did she want to play? Most games that she played were on a broom, but she didn't know how much she trusted doing that in the classroom. "I know a lot of games on brooms......" Her hesitation in playing them in their current setting was not hidden from her voice. "Have you played Wizard's Chess?" From what she could tell, it was very close to the muggle version so maybe Henric would have an easier time with it. |
Pausing a second from her continuous note taking Hady lifted her head just in time to see boxes and brooms flying towards the front of the room. Apparently inside were a bunch or different games they could play. This sounded like a good time to the brunette. Playing games during a lesson would never get an argument from her. Rising to her feet Hady made her way to the boxes and shuffled through a few looking for something she hadn't played before. There were so many different ones she had no idea what to choose. Maybe it would've just been easier to find someone to enjoy the game with and let them decide on what to play. Since she was up here though...shuffle....shuffle. She carefully moved some of the games aside to check the other ones having no clue what she was looking for. |
Quote:
When they had been released to try out games on their own, Benny hadn't been quick to move. However Adi apparently had, bringing back a wizarding chess set and placing it at the desk. "A little bit," he answered, though admittedly it wasn't something he played really. Its not like you could have a wizarding chess competition out in the open where muggles might see. "How about you?" |
Anyone want to play Exploding Snap? There was a lot of listening going on about games. Zhenya wrote a few dot points down, but most of it she thought was common sense and she would remember. Until she mentioned games. In the box... In class!?... Zhenya got up and went to the box and saw EXPLODING SNAP! YAY! She drew the deck of exploding cards out of the box and took them back to her desk. She started taking them out and building a card house with them, knowing that at any moment... they might explode! |
Anybody? :3 Yes, she had to agree. It was a fun discussion. Usually AJ wasn't really up for debated mainly because she didn't care, but they were talking about games and she happened to be very opinionated about that. Did she say flying games and brooms in the same sentence? Sweet baby unicorns!!! Her time was finally here. She had been wanting to fly on a broom at the phrase "you're a witch, Aubrey." Of course she had rotten luck and hadn't been able to at Hogwarts which was really weird. Wasn't broom riding like witch 101? Anywho... She had a broom to mount. Out of my way. Don't make me use my elbows people. Okay, so it wasn't like there was a mad dash to the brooms, but this was a big deal for her. A little humoring would go a long way. If there was an actual game that went with this, she didn't care. It was just her and her broom. AJ picked one up and threw her right leg over. "How do I make this baby go?" Oh, and a better question. "Does anybody wanna play with me?" Because she was five years old right now. |
SPOILER!!: Adi's blond Dragon! <3 Yes, Adi suspected Benny might know a tiny bit about this game while he knew zilch. Momentarily, his attention was diverted to his girlfriend and her broom. Haha. She was such a kid like him sometimes! It made him love her even more. Anywhooo... Back to the other bestie! "Nothing at all.'' The Hufflepuff set up the board so that he got the black pieces and Benny got the white. "Hiiiii, little people of the chess world,'' he said to the pieces. This was the main reason why he had took this set... so he could speak to the pieces. LOL! And wait! Adi did know something about chess! "I think the white always play first so it's your move, Benny.'' In the meanwhile... "How does it feel to be a chess piece?'' Adi asked one of the bishops on his end. |
Game time. At that, Beverly gladly stood from her seat to go check out what game she wanted to play. She wasn't much of a gamer. She was more an outside person. Anything that involved jumping off trees, running. Basically, anything that had her moving and feeling free. But she did enjoy knocking things down, Taking the game back to her desk, she set the little pieces in place. Get ready to go down, skittles. Hisss. |
SPOILER!!: Hippogriff Okay so they were going to learn and relearn the game respectively on their own. Benny could do this, he just had to think back on the last time he had seen someone play the game in front of him. His father and a friend of his if he remembered correctly. The sixth year let his friend hand out the pieces and deciding who played what color set, thankfully it all being set up on its own due to the magic within the wizarding chess set. Yeah, he remembered that too, but he wasn't going to point that out readily and insist that he go first as Adi gave him the white set. It all worked out in the end anyway and Benny could demonstrate he supposed as he played. "Well then..." the Gryffindor almost moved his piece before remembering he had to speak his movement to get the pieces to move on their own. "King's Pawn One," he instructed, trying to remember any sort of guidelines as Adi awaited an answer from the bishop. That seemed to work. |
Hi, we want to play! Nessa watched with a smile as students began to get up and sift through the boxes to find something to play for a little while. It seemed like Wizard's Chess was the initial favorite. Interesting. It was never one she was able to wrap her head around. Quote:
Walking around a little more, Nessa noticed Zhenya with a box of Exploding Snap cards. And, ooh! She was making a house with them! "What a fun idea!" she exclaimed, stopping next to her desk. "My brothers and I used to play different kinds of games with these cards when we were kids." Standard Exploding Snap of course, but other games as well. "Our houses were never so elaborate though. Couldn't get the balance just right, I guess.." But she kept her eyes focused on the card house, just waiting for it to explode and all fall down. |
SPOILER!!: llia xD llia told him that she knew a lot of games on a broom, he wondered what kind of games they played besides Quidditch of course. "Oh really, what kind of games that can be played on brooms, llia?" he asked, interested to know. He remembered pressing his face up onto the Quidditch's shop window pane just so he could take a closer look...ahh...good times..good times. Henric couldn't afford those fancy brooms up in those Quidditch shop displays anyway,so he would sometimes borrow a broomstick from the Hogwarts game room and fly around with it. Henric wasn't particularly good at playing Quidditch either due to his lack of practice, he much preferred playing football on the ground than up in the air. Wizard chess? He shook his head,"No...I haven't really...but its fun watching them knock each other out,its far more brilliant than plain old muggle chess,"Henric replied, grinning.Seemed like to him she had played them before and might be pretty good in it. "Alright then, let's have a go...I bet you know all the killer moves, already..I can tell..."he accused playfully, suspicion etched across his face for a moment, but he wasn't sour at losing like someone in this room...*eyeing Benny*,"...still...you can teach me how to play at the same time, bestie,"he chuckled before getting up to bring in a set of wizard's chess. At the corner of his eye, he saw Adi and Benny had decided on the same game too.Oh well..good for them. Not particularly concern about those two...especially when Benny's around. Whatever...he just wanted to start playing and watching how these chess pieces destroy each other. Hehe. Once the wizard chess been set down and arranged accordingly to their sides,he looked back up at her again,"How do we start?" |
and @ AJ ^^ GAAAASSSPPPPPP AGAIN. Those WERE flying brooms, AND THEY WERE ALLOWED TO FLY. Toby made a mad dash for the front of the room as soon as Professor Glendower said to get started, and got his hands on one of those brooms. He'd been considering trying out one of the wizard chess sets, as he'd never actually played chess before, even in the muggle world, but the opportunity to FLY was far too good to pass up. Sure, it wasn't exactly flying on the brand new top of the range broom that Ella had got him for christmas, but sometimes a broom was a broom was a broom. After so long being grounded (literally speaking), Toby would take anything. He didn't waste a whole lot of time either, hopping onto the broom and immediately nipping around the perimeter of the room. It occurred to Toby to maybe see if there was a Quaffle in one of those boxes, but for now he was quite content to zoom around the room, being careful not to accidentally kick anyone. Nyooooom. He saw a Gryffindor girl on a broom, too, and slowed slightly to speak to her as he flew past. "Hey, you wanna chuck a ball around with me?" Toby was pretty confident that he'd not even hit anyone or anything. This was his THING. |
SPOILER!!: Benny! <3 Benny was making his first move. Adi honestly had no idea if it was a legit move or not but he would go with it. At that exact moment, his Bishop chose to give it's reply. "I'm stuck in a box and have listen to commands from dumb humans who know nothing about Chess. How do you think I feel?'' Blink, Blink! A sassy Bishop! Ahahahaha! Adi liked this! "I can imagine it's a rather boring life. But I bet you black pieces have won many games. How about you moving to F4?'' he replied. "How about you learning the game first? Bishops move only diagonally.'' Adi EYED the Bishop. Smart mouthed little... "Fineeee. H4 then.'' He thought he heard little mumblings as the Bishop took off to the designated square. GOSH! This game was complicated! He looked up at Benny. "I have no idea what I'm doing but it's your move.'' |
Anyone? Angel was nervous, she didn't play many wizards games, she had played with a few friends but that was like exploding snap, but most of the other games was new to her, she loved her muggle games, truth and dare... Make Overs... and all those things like that, now though she had to find a game to try and someone to play it with. "Anyone want to play a game with me?" Angel asked, seriously she would settle for a game of O and X at the minute if it meant someone would play a game with her. |
SPOILER!!: Tobias Apparently she wasn't the only one who was mega pumped over the broom situation. The older Hufflepuff that went by the name of Toby was rushing up to grab him a broom too. Okay. She would watch what he did. It couldn't be that complicated... Oh wow. He was a natural. Looks like he had loads of practice. Too bad AJ didn't. Flying AND ball throwing. Yes, she was down. In fact her cheeks were sure to start hurting at any moment from the amount of beaming she was doing. "I'd love to." Since she was the one on the ground, it made sense for her to grab a ball. She took her broom with her as she looked in the box. Didn't want anybody snagging it, did she? Well, would you looky there. They had them a ball. What kind of ball it was, she wasn't sure. It would get the job done. "Heads up," she cried as she tossed the ball to what would hopefully be a new friend. Now she needed to get airborne. AJ kicked off from the ground and was instantly in the air. It was crazy that she had rode a dragon before a broom. Right, Hogwarts. THAT made sense. Her hair was whipping behind her, and she was immediately in a happy place. This was the life. She needed a broom of her own. It was decided. |
Anyone? :3 THEY WERE GOING TO PLAY GAMES. YESSSSS. Lux loved games because they were fun. She was going to try one out, but definitely not something that involved a broom. Her feet were staying firmly on the ground this lesson. Checking out the boxes, she wondered what she was in the mood to play. She also needed someone to play with, but that wouldn't be hard to sort out. She really wanted to play with Bay, but he wasn't here so that would have to wait until the next time she saw him. Oh. Exploding Snap. Taking the cards out of the box, she looked around. "Anyone want to play with me?" They could play the normal way or make a house of cards. Lux didn't mind either way! |
*Claims* Quote:
He wondered who he could partner with? He puckered his lips and looked around and noticed Lux was sitting there alone. He nodded and made his way over. "Hey Cucumber..." he grinned. "Ready to play or do you have someone already as your partner?" |
Anyone? Ohh, they were going to play games?! Awesome! Kate loved when classes consisted of things like games, matches, crafts, and the such. It made learning so much more fun! Kate watched as the many different varieties were brought out. There were broom games, games you had to play by yourself, and then games you needed a friend to play, too. Kate decided she wanted to play a game with someone, not all by herself. "Does anyone want to partner with me for a game?" she asked, looking around the room. She didn't know which game she wanted to play. She just didn't think playing a game by herself would be all that fun. |

Heads up Hearing the girl - she was one of the Valentine triplets, and one of the two Gryffindor ones at that, but Toby couldn't tell them apart other than that and he was awful at names anyway - call out, Toby looked over and snatched the ball out of the air as it flew towards him. Oh maaaan, he was getting a RUSH, already. It was almost like being on a Quidditch pitch again. Except they were in a classroom, so there was EXTRA novelty. He slowed the pace down a little as soon as she kicked off, so that now he was gliding around, steering the broom with his knees when necessary. "Back atcha!" Toby had learnt looooong ago the body language and stuff that meant someone was ready to be thrown a Quaffle or something, so when he was sure the Valentine girl was ready, he threw the ball back, letting it soar across the classroom towards his NEW FLYING FRIEND. |

"Hey! I'm ready to go." She smiled at her bestie. Nope, she didn't have a partner besides him. finished shuffling the cards, she sat down on the floor and placed them on the ground in front of her. "You want to play the traditional way? Or try making a house of cards?" Lux hadn't decided what she wanted to do and it was only right to ask Kace if he had any preference. |
Claiming Kate Quote:
"I'm Dot. Do you have a preference which game you want to play? You can pick. I don't mind." |
Quote:
Lucky for her, she didn't really have time to start feeling sorry for herself. An older Slytherin girl approached her, which made Kate feel super cool. "Hey, Dot. I'm Kate," she said. Oh, and Kate got to pick the game? She should have really been thinking this one through, because she hadn't even looked to see what the professor really had. "Hmm...okay, Exploding Snaps," she said, and since Dot gave her the liberty of deciding the game, Kate figured that was okay. She went to collect a set of cards and brought them back to Dot. "You let me choose the game, so you want to go first?" That may have been a bad move on Kate's part, but she figured Dot was probably going to win this thing anyway. |
Quote:
"Sure, I've played before. I'm not super great at it, but I'm not sure we care who wins, do we?" Strange thing, being a Slytherin and not caring about winning. She measured success in other ways. Dot seated herself at a desk and gestured for Kate to sit across from her. "I'm going to deal first and lay down a card, and then you play." She dealt out half the deck to each of them and then flipped over her first card. |
Goodness she wasn't embarrassed but goodness that would have only happened to her. She had fallen asleep on the couch in the common room and must have gotten completely confused by the time or something. Anyway she was here and had definitely made an entrance this lesson. She nodded at the professor. "I will certainly do that next time, professor." Phew that was close she thought she would have to stay after class and write line or something. Imagine an afternoon of writing I will not be late for class. I will not be late for class. until her hand fell off. Nah, Glendower wouldn't punished her with lines. Epppp There was BROOMS. SHE WANTED ONE!!! She was going to get to fly. Like really fly! Speaking of writing lines she bet she had plenty of note lines to catch up with. Especially in History of magic. Even with a professor like Glendower. It was kind of a given with the subject. In the corner of her eye she seen Eden waving and holding up her notes in the air. The sixth year turned and smiled. "Thank, E." She gave her another smile and beamed. Taking the notes she quickly copied down the notes that Eden had. Sweet! Once she was finished catching up she put Eden's notebook back on the desk she was at. Heading too the brooms. Come to mama. She got one and hopped on kicking off with her feet. Careful not to knock anyone in the head with her feet. She was flying. Flying. This was great. Flying around the room she seen AJ and Toby "Hey guys mind if I join you two?" Hopefully three wasn't a crowd. Seeing as they were already tossing together. She didn't care. She was flying and that just made her happy as a lark. They were the happiest of birds apparently. |

Kate took the seat opposite Dot and watched her deal the cards, all the while nodding at the instructions the older girl was giving her. Kate flipped over her first card, as well. "Bowtruckles," she said aloud, which didn't match the card Dot had flipped over. She flinched, thinking the cards might suddenly explode, but they didn't. At least, they hadn't yet. "Mmkay, your turn again." Dot needed a Bowtruckles card to match the one Kate had just put down, and if she had a match, she might get the first part. Kate held her breath as she waited to see what would happen. |

Oh, her turn again? Dot turned over her next card, and said, "Bowtruckles"... oh, wait! That's what Kate just said, right? Where was her wand? She scrabbled briefly for it before tapping the top of the pile, which fizzled slightly. "That's one for me. Right off the pitch, too. Your card." |
Text Cut: Dot Kate frowned a little as Dot earned a point. Okay, so maybe she did care just a little bit if she won or lose. Just a little bit. She knew it didn't mean a lot, but imagine the glory of being a second year and beating out a--..."So what year are you?" she asked. Kate couldn't remember if she'd heard the girl say or not, and she didn't even remember if she told her she was a second year. "And what's it like in Slytherin house? Stereotypes say you're supposed to care about winning." She grinned. "Those aren't always right, though. This guy named Brian thinks that all Ravenclaws sit around the common room looking at each other through reading glasses and talking about chemistry." Kate didn't know anything about chemistry. She'd wasted too much time, though, and SNAP! ...and THAT was why they called this game Exploding Snap. The cards they'd already laid down spontaneously exploded in a small poof of smoke--right in Kate's face. "Well that wasn't cool," Kate said, a little embarrassed. Oh, right. She needed to lay down a card. "Mountain Troll," she said, revealing the card. |
Toby & Cinna This was exhilarating. Too bad they could take these brooms out for a real ride. She couldn't help but to be more intrigued with the game of Quidditch. AJ would be so good at it; she just knew. What were those bat things called? She wanted one of those. That could make this whole ball throwing thing even more fun. They were in a classroom though. She doubted Glendower would go for that though. That was an accident waiting to happen. While she was enjoying herself she heard a voice asking to join them. Turning to see who it was, she was pleased to see Cinna. "Hey Cinna... you're more than welcome," she said with a smile. AJ couldn't imagine Toby minding. Speaking of Toby...did he even know her name? She did share the same face with another lion. Of course Angel always wore make-up and her hair was perfect at all times. AJ was pretty much the exact opposite of that. "I'm AJ by the way... the fun one." In case he was wondering. Toby sent the ball sailing towards her, and she caught it with ease. With a smile still firmly in place, she located Cinna once more. "Let's see what you got." The fourth year chucked the ball towards the older lion. |
SPOILER!!: Adi Benny wasn't anymore prepared for the bishop's remark that Adi appeared to be, his eyebrow raised slightly in reaction. Now that would be overwhelming proof that Wizard's chess was so much more...colorful and interesting...than its muggle equivolent. As for the move directed by Adi, the Gryffindor had to look the board over and count out spots before he registered the incorrectness of the move. A realization that occured just after the fiesty bishop had made it known. Would you look at that...a chess set that actually taught you how to play. Albeit a touch rudely. "Neither do I....fully," he admitted to show his bestie they were almost in the exact same boat. He had commented that his knowledge was limited. "How about Queen's Knight up and the left..." he mused, not sure of the correct terminology. The piece seemed to get what he was hinting at anyway. |
SPOILER!!: Equally lost bestie! <3 Adi caught Henric looking his way and was about to send his friend a grin and a wave. Actually, his hand was halfway up already but then he remembered Benny was sitting right there with him and quickly passed the action of as rumpling his dark hair. Adi had told himself that for a while he would cool it with all the hanging out and attention he had been giving Henric. Instead, he shook his head at Benny's raised eyebrow. Here's to sassy chess pieces. Hehe. "You seem to know a whole lot more than I do,'' the Hufflepuff remarked as Benny's knight took off. There was a scoff from Adi's sassy bishop. "You're both dunderheads.'' "Hey! He's not a dunderhead! Watch yourself or else I'm going to put Silencio on you for the rest of your life.'' No one was going to insult his best friend in front of him. He waved his wand threateningly at the bishop. "Right. Rook, forward to A5.'' He eyed the Bishop. "Did I get that right?'' "Yes, Rooks can move as far as they like forward.'' Hehe. The poor Bishop was obviously afraid of the Silencing Charm. It sounded a bit sulky in its tiny voice. |

As he said they would build a house, she nodded. "Sounds good to me! Maybe I can refresh your memory later." Unless they had time to do it after making their house of cards; Lux didn't know how long Professor Glendower was going to let them play with the toys. As it was, she carefully added some cards to the base he had created. |

She laughed a little at his expressions and what he said but shook her head."Its the same as muggle chess as far as I can tell, simply our pieces are enchanted and you must call out the grid space for them to move to." She pointed to the squares on the board. "Its still has ranks 1 through 8 and Files A through H. So simply call out the space and the piece will move. You are white, so you go first." She looked the board over and thought for a moment. "Did you play muggle chess?" If he hadn't.........then this was going to become a teaching game really fast. |
Free for anyone - just tell me on Twitter/VM <3 SPOILER!!: Cutty There wasn’t much that Marsha didn’t giggle or grin at - and Cutty thinking that she would “sehrve” him wasn’t one of them. A giggle escaped from her lips as she raised a single eyebrow as if to say ’You wish.’ She liked Cutty as a friend but she only served animals! Yup. Animals were the best thing ever. Wait… What? Who is a Golden God? What… She had missed something, right? Her eyebrows furrowed, however before she could question him on it, class started. Marsha had been away to say that they played for the excitement, but one of the older kids had gotten there first. Waiting as she took notes on what her classmates and the Professor were saying. As they were asked about how games lasted, she raised her hand. ”Professor, maybe games last if they are passed down? Like our parents and grandparents liked quidditch so we grew up with it…?” She didn’t know, she really liked watching Quidditch though. Hehe. Oh, Games! Awesome. Moving from where she was sitting next to Cutty, Marsha bounded up to the boxes to see what she could find… And someone to play with her of course. She should have asked Cutty before she had run up here… Griffin. Whoops. Oh well, she looked around the box, wondering if she should play something she knew or something she didn’t… Hmmm. |
SPOILER!!: Professor! She had just put the foundation of her exploding house down, when she was joined by none other than Professor Glendower. Zhenya smiled, "I never could either. A standard one storey house was all we could get. My dad could build it bigger, but it always exploded." They were the nostalgic memories of her childhood, pre-hogwarts. "What other games did you play with the exploding cards?" she asked, curious. Zhenya had only really done house of cards and snap, plus some fish game her mother had taught them. Zhenya tried to balance two cards in one hand so she could join a third to make them stand. She carefully withdrew her hands to see if it would hold, which it did, before she slowly pulled her hands back. |

A puzzling expression has appeared on his face as soon as she started explaining the foundation of the game. Henric shook his head,"Well...I've seen people play both muggle chess and wizard's chess before but I've never tried it myself..."he replied to her."So I just call them to move?he asked again. Alright,alright,alright...he was going to make the first move.Cool. He should move one of his pawn pieces first then...no idea why but he did it anyway."E2 to E4..."he said and watched his chess piece moved to its designated position. Ooohh...nice. |
Cinna + AJ rahhhh "Sure," Toby replied, grinning at Cinna as he nyoomed around the class. "The more the merrier." Mostly he was PUMPED about getting to fly at all, which put him in a great mood, but Toby ALWAYS loved working or playing or just being with groups of people. Man... it had been Christmas since he'd last flown, which didn't SOUND like a long time to most people, probably. But it was to Toby. That, of course, had been when the Wanderers had let him train with them, but it had also been when he'd not been all that happy 'cause of other things. And he was happier now, which made it all the better. Huh? What? OH! "AJ!" Toby repeated, nodding his head. "Right, okay. Got it. AJ. I'll remember that." Such a statement would remain to be seen. While AJ threw the ball off to Cinna, Toby sped up a little as his circled the room. He couldn't help it; sometimes he just got that itch to go faster whether on a broom or running or just living his life. He did, however, keep an eye on Cinna so he was prepared if she threw the ball to him. Nyooooooooom. |

"Hello." Angel said suddenly and shyly she didn't want to scare the other girl. "You want to play a game with me?" |
Toby and AJ "Great!" She rubbed her hands together and returned the grin to both of them. She zoomed off around the room. It was a small area but still good to be back on one. It felt like it had been forever since she'd been on one. It was probably forever since she had. She flew back toward the other two. Stopping when AJ wanted to see what she had. Following the ball she flew over toward it. Catching it one handed she tucked it under her arm just as if she was playing on out a pitch. She flew around Toby. It was great just flying around. She flew out a ways. She was ready to toss it off to Toby Good he was paying attention. Someone looked very happy to be back on s broom. She definitely knew that feeling. "Heads up, Toby!" She sent the ball to him. Zooming off just to fly around the room. Good to see she could still do this. |
