A medieval wizard, Gregory the Smarmy invented Gregory's Unctuous Unction, a potion that makes the drinker think whomever gave the potion is his or her best friend. Gregory allegedly wormed his way into King Richard's confidence with this potion and thus made his fortune.
Behind his chipped statue used to be a secret passageway outside the school, which was found by Fred and George Weasley during their first week of school and which caved in during the Battle of Hogwarts. The statue has since been used as a landmark on the fifth floor corridor.

There was something about Astronomy lessons that always made him hungry. Zander couldn’t even place it, but it definitely had something to do with sitting in on one of Flamsteed’s lessons. He never got this way with Charms, DADA, or even CoMc. It was always Astronomy though. There was no real plausible explanation, either. Maybe it had to do with the whole moon and cheese analogy? Or something to do with the altitude of the Astronomy towers having an effect on his digestion? Or… Maybe it simply had to do with the fact that he made visiting the kitchens after class a part of his routine schedule?
Yeah, probably the latter option.
Either way, Zander was hungry and nothing was going to stop him. He had practically flown out of class, pushing some students out of his way (as politely as a hungry boy could do it) as he raced down several sets of stairs. The sixth year even found that taking the steps two at a time shaved off a few seconds as he made his way further down the castle. Nothing to see here, just a healthy growing boy NEEDING pizza. Ahem.
The Gryffindor wouldn’t stop for anything. Even the few familiar faces he past as he ran through the seventh floor corridors. Oops. Definitely passed by a few firsties who looked sort of lost too… Surely they’d figure their way out just fine. Ahem. He almost didn’t even stop to pick up his fallen Prefect’s badge.
Oh wait.
He was missing his badge. Oop.
It was an abrupt stop, yes, but at least he stopped, okay!? Where the heck did it go?!!? Merlin. The Gryffindor had to put all food thoughts away for the moment as he bent down, looking around for his fallen badge. And boy, did that Gregory guy look like he was judging from above. Oi, statue please cool it. Zander doesn’t appreciate the funky looks, okay?

On her way to the library (yes, like whaaaat? I didn't know you could read) after class, Maggie was quickly walking down the corridor. She still had so many things to do. And plan. And convince her mom to let her do the thing. Well. Her mom didn't really have a CHOICE. That's what was going to happen. Maggie was going to leave her no choice.
Pff!
Oh. Wait. What was-
Maggie probably spotted the badge at the same time the Prefect it belonged to noticed it was gone. She picked it up and then proceeded to watch him clearly looking for it for a while. "Whatcha looking for?" She finally said with a big smile on her lips, after putting the badge in her pocket. "Do you need help?" Ever the nice person that she just was.

Badge. Where the heck was his badge? Merlin. Truebridge will really kill him now... That is if his Head of House didn't get to him first. Oh. Sweet. Merlin. Zander was DOOMED. It had to be here somewhere... Unless he had dropped it on one of the floors in between... But he could've sworn he heard the little ding of metal colliding with the floor. He would be in such big trouble if people found out it was gone.
He was already on his second chance just this year. Third if you counted the time the Headmistress took his badge away last term. Oh dear Merlin.
Pft. He wasn't freaking out. Nope. Totally not. So you could stop looking at him like that Mr. Statue. And you too little girl. Wait. Little girl?
The Gryffindor had noticed the girl standing there for quite some time, but he was a little too preoccupied to notice that she happened to be approaching. It wasn't until she spoke up when Zander finally realized that she was near. "Uh, me?" Duh. Who else? Not like anyone else was frantically scouring the floor. Aheeem. "Oh, uh nothing." Looking for nothing. Because could he trust her? What if she went and told Truebridge!? Zander would be DEAD. D-E-A-D. DEAD. Just like Gregoire. #TOOSOON.
But, she did looked harmless enough... And she was offering to help... And he really would be dead if he didn't find it... So alright, "Actually, not nothing," he mussed his hair and looked around a bit more. "I think I dropped my badge somewhere around here... You haven't happened to see it have you?" He was verging on frantic. "It's about this big," he held out his hand, "Red and Gold, pretty shiny..." She must know what a Prefect badge looks like right? Sorry. He was actually frantic. And yes, yes he would LOVE her help. Maybe they could try and move the statue together? Could it have fallen behind that?

Yes, him. Who else was there?
But she was being nice right now (well, pretending to be anyway) so Maggie just nodded. Yes. Him. She simply continued to watch him when at first he said that he wasn't looking for anything. Is that so?? Well, seeing as she knew for a fact that he WAS looking for something she didn't move until he admitted to it. Her eyes lifted to his hair for a moment when he ruffled it, while listening to him speak.
"Ooooh." Blue eyes were back on his face when he was done explaining what the badge looked like. "You're the Gryffindor Prefect, aren't you?" Which she'd known already. And not only because she'd found his BADGE. It was her third year. Maggie knew who the Prefects were. "Aw, that's so.......when did you last see it?" She turned on the spot, putting a concerned look on her face. "Do you think it's here?" Hopefully she wouldn't have to physically get down on her knees to pretend!look for this stupid badge.
Making sure he didn't see her, Maggie grabbed her wand under her robes. Just in case he was going to try and summon his badge or something.

This was terrible. Zander was ALL kinds of freaking out on the inside... And maybe a little bit on the outside too. Though, uh, he was really trying to hide that bit. Sorta. Taking his eyes off the floor, only momentarily, he looked up at the small girl and nodded his head in confirmation. "Uh huh, well, for now at least..." It was kind of hard to be a Prefect without the badge though, not to mention "If Truebridge finds out that I lost my badge, I'll be fired for sure!" OH MERLIN. Thinking about it sent another wave of panic through his head.
He was already on thin ice as it was. If Flammy or the Head Mistress found out, there wouldn't be any more second chances. Well technically fourth, but who was counting? Not Zander NOPE. "I had it on in class... And I didn't notice it was missing until just now," that was by pure luck by the way. Had Zander kept walking, he would've been in even MORE trouble. But one things for sure, he knew it had to be in the castle. And somewhere between the seventh and fifth floors. So uh, sort of narrowed it down?
"I think it--Well... I hope it is?" He tilted his head, not very confident in the answer. DID he think it was here???? He could've sworn he heard something hit the floor. But if it had, then where did it go? Quite unfortunate that he had the tendency to forget he was a wizard. A summoning charm could've definitely done the trick. Where the heck was Sophie Brown when you needed her? aka all the time
"Uh, maybe it could be behind the statue?" Meaning, hey do you wanna help Zander try and move the statue?

He'd be FIRED?
Huh. Interesting. Maggie didn't know people could get fired from being a Prefect. Interesting. Very interesting. "Awww. I'm sure it'll be okay." Poor baby Zander. She gave him an empathetic smile before going back to looking around for a badge that wouldn't be there. "We'll find it. Don't worry." Yes. That. Or you know. Not. It was to be seen.
Nodding along to his voiced thoughts, Maggie walked around him, eyes still on the floor. "Which class?" Maybe he'd lost it right after leaving the classroom? Maybe it was still there? Maybe someone else had picked it up and had already handed it in? So many maybes she could offer him in case he was going to ask for her opinion. So many maybes and none of them true.
She looked up and at the statue when he mentioned it. "Maybe." Maybe it WAS behind it. Taking a step closer to it, she glanced back at the Gryffindor Prefect. Was he going to look? No? It didn't even occur to her that he wanted her help MOVING the thing. She didn't exactly look like she'd be of much use physically. And well, he didn't need her help using his wand, did he?

Yes, YES he would be FIRED. He had already been temporarily fired once last year. Truebridge was just waiting for another excuse to make it permanent. And SEE this is why it's incumbent that he finds his badge.
The Gryffindor tried to look like he believed her, that it'd be okay. But, see the thing about Zander Adair was that he KNEW it wouldn't be okay. Or maybe the thing about Zander Adair was that he had the tendency to blow a situation out of proportion. It was one of the two... We'll let Maggie decide. "I've got to," he did another spin around to scope out the area, but unfortunately there wasn't a badge in sight. Maybe if he retraced his steps?
"Astronomy," he responded immediately, but still didn't look up. He was hardcore searching the hall now. This was serious. "So it's gotta be here somewhere..." Though he could've dropped it somewhere along the way... The only thing that was for sure was that it HAD to be somewhere in the castle. But that was his only lead. Man, he just wasn't cut out for this detective stuff.
"Could you help me move it?" he nodded towards the statue, well aware of the fact that she was about the size of a walnut. But Zander could use all the help he could get. Even the help of a walnut. He had decided. Plus, with both of their weights pushed against it, maybe the statue would move easier and then they could check behind and HE JUST NEEDED HIS BADGE, OKAY? Plus she offered her help. Ahem. "I can probably beg Professor Flamsteed to give you some extra house points for helping and stuff." You know, just incase pushing a statue around didn't seem like enough fun.

Astronomy.
"So if we can't find it here maybe we can....retrace your steps. Go back to the classroom." Hey. She was really getting into this. Maybe she should think about going into acting. Maggie was really believable. Yes, she was. "It'll be fine." Yes. She'd said that already but it was meant to be comforting. For now. You know. "I'm sure the Headmistress won't be that upset." Or maybe she would be. They probably wouldn't get the chance to find out.
Help....him...MOVE the statue??? ?????????? ?????? ?????
"No?" Was he for real? Maggie gave him a look that clearly suggested she was somewhat worried about his sanity. The fact that he offered to have his Head of House give her points for helping WAS a pretty good incentive but she highly doubted that she could physically move that statue. And neither could he by the looks of it. "I mean...you have a wand, right?" To demonstrate she pulled out hers.
In case he had in fact forgotten what it looked like.

Oh. Retracing his steps. That was actually a good idea. Huh. Well of course it had to have crossed his mind, y'know... But he just had this feeling that it was here. But then again, his feelings normally tended to be wrong. And he couldn't see it anywhere. Badges were normally easy to find what with their shiny metal and all. "That sounds like a good plan... 'Cause I could've dropped it on my way down?" He was really just speaking his thoughts out loud at this point.
Man, whoever this girl was... She was really dang nice. Helping him look and all. Zander owed her one.
As for the Headmistress though, that woman was not-so-nice. Or at least the parts that Zander had encountered. "Erm... Well, I'm sort of on thin ice with her," meaning this was actually his third chance at being Prefect because he almost lost it twice. So... losing the badge would mean strike three and surely he'd be sacked. But he WASN'T going to think about that, okay? Oh sweet Merlin.
Of course he had a wand, but what did that have to do with--OH. Duh. Magic. He was a wizard, right. Sometimes it was hard to remember when you were standing in the middle of a giant, enchanted castle in the middle of a corridor, surrounded by tons of talking portraits. Simple mistake, anyone could've forgotten. Happens to everyone. Taking his wand out of his pocket, he at first thought about using a charm to move the statue, but then decided against it after realizing a levitation charm might prove to be more effective. That way he could see the whole ground. "Wing-GAR-dee-um levi-OH-sa," he concentrated hard, knowing very well that a heavy statue would be harder to lift. Continuing to hold his wand in the air as the statue floated up, he quickly scanned the ground in hopes of....
"Oh man, it's not there..."
Welp. This was a GRAND DISASTER.

Of course it was a good idea. It was Maggie's after all.
But she was trying to keep up her good Samaritan act so she just nodded and smiled. "Exactly." Good thinking, Zander! Or something. Yes. "I'm Maggie by the way." Assuming he didn't already know that. Remember it Zander. You'll be hearing that name A LOT in the future. It was going to be one of the most important names in the history of Hogwarts. Maybe she was going to get one of those statues........okay she was getting a little carried away there.
Would she look good in stone?
On thin ice? Huh. "What happened?" She asked casually, eyes still on the floor in search for the badge. Any piece of information could be useful. Especially when it was related to the Headmistress. Why would she continue having a Prefect whom she didn't exactly like or something? Or with whom she was 'on thin ice' with, anyway. Interesting.
FINALLY he reached for his wand. Which made Maggie tighten her grip on hers too, just in case. Although it was highly unlikely that he would think of summoning the badge now. He was going to move that statue with sheer force after all. Zander CLEARLY was not the brightest Gryffindor. How had he been made Prefect again? She REALLY wanted to know now.
.........
A worried look paired with disappointment was on her face when Zander came to realize that the badge was NOT there. "........I guess we'll have to walk back then." Back as in back to the Astronomy classroom. And back as in to Professor Flamsteed's office. They had to tell the Head of House eventually after all.

Maggie. Maggie, Maggie, Maggie.
He repeated it over and over countless times in his head. She was real nice, it was best to remember the name. 'Cause he was sure he could talk to one of his Professors, maybe get her some points for being such a good citizen. Most people wouldn't even bother helping. Well no, most strangers wouldn't bother helping. Zander was pretty thankful, despite being in such a frantic state. He would've been really thankful otherwise. Ahem. Once they found the badge. "Oh, I'm Zander," he didn't really have to do many introductions lately, considering most people knew who the Prefects were... But incase, y'know?
Uh.
Another thing that was pretty common knowledge nowadays: the forbidden forrest incident from last year. He hadn't ever had to explain it to people... But mostly because everyone knew what had happened. So this was.... yeaaaaah. "Oh uh," it made him kind of uneasy having to explain the fact that he happened to be in the forbidden forrest when a boy was killed and that it was partially his fault for not finding a Professor and that he shouldn't have been there in the first place and-- "I just did something I wasn't supposed to... And uh, got a detention," of course it was a lot worse than that... Like how he got his badge personally taken away for a month... And how the Headmistress probably hated him... But-y'know-details.
Attention was on the statue now, as he concentrated hard to lower it back down into it's place. So if it wasn't there, where could it have gone? "Yeah, uh, I guess so..." he tried to hide the fact that he was terribly disappointed, but welp that didn't happen.
Surely it'd be somewhere on the sixth or seventh floors. And if not, he was dead.

Oh yes. He BETTER remember her name.
"I know." That his name was Zander. Like. He was a Prefect. She knew all the Prefects names. Obviously. They were the ones you should be nice to after all. Or at least make them like you. Until you could get them to do something for you at least. Which in this case was almost the case. Maggie was pretty sure Zander was almost at that point of desperation where he would agree to anything if only he got that badge back.
Although. She was still waiting for that one sign.
Right. That wasn't a good explanation but she felt like she wasn't going to get more out of him now. He was way too focused on other things. Like finding his badge. And not getting fired from being Prefect. "I mean, who ELSE would get the badge?" And although she made it sounded like he was CLEARLY the best candidate and it was ridiculous even thinking about other people right now, she looked up to see his reaction anyway.

Hmm, Zander?
Oh. So she did know his name. Ahem. Yeah uh, just checking. Y'know, incase she didn't. 'Cause it'd be awkward otherwise. So uh, yeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. Still was awkward.
"Benny, probably," his answer was automatic. What was Flamsteed thinking, giving the badge to Zander anyways!? It was a ridiculous idea from the start. "I mean-uh-you're probably right." Heh. Heh. WHERE THE HECK WAS HIS BADGE???? Again he scanned the corridor for what seemed like the hundredth time. Actually, it probably was the hundredth time. There was no badge. It was hopeless. WHAT WAS HE GONNA DO????
DIE, PROBABLY.
Maybe he could just tell Flamsteed the truth? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA. NAH. That'd never work. Or OH OH OH, crup ate his badge. That'd be perfect. Or uh, OOHHH he was getting it polished and it was just taking a really long time? No, that was a little too believable. It'd probably make the Astronomy Professor a little suspicious. It was just TOO good of a lie, y'know?
But NO just because he was thinking about insane excuses didn't mean he was ready to give up quite yet. It HAD to be somewhere in the castle. "I'm gonna go check the other floors, thanks for the help by the way," he turned towards the staircase and began walking. Awfully nice of that Maggie girl to help him look around. But he wasn't going to keep her. Besides, if he really wanted his badge he had to get a move on before a Professor found it.

Benny. Right. Maggie wasn't interested in the answer really. It was just to get him thinking. Although the fact that he almost immediately came up with a candidate showed that he didn't think too highly of himself in the first place. So. This was almost too easy. And it seemed like he'd already given up hope. Or well, he was resorting to checking all the other floors.
Which was pretty much the same thing.
For a moment Maggie considered just going to Professor Flamsteed with the badge. It would probably earn her some points if she pretended that she'd just found it on the floor and the dutiful student that she was she'd obviously handed it in. But then again, what good did a few housepoints do her? Not a lot, exactly. There was some personal gain she could get from this after all.
"Zander!" Maggie called after him without making a move to follow him however. She was just standing there in the middle of the corridor, looking at him. And holding up his Prefect badge. "So...I feel like you really want this back, right?" This was a negotiation. He was aware of this, right?

Hopefully she wouldn't have to explain it to him.
Man. If a Professor found it, that'd be HORRIBLE. If the Headmistress found it, that'd be AWFUL. If another student found it, well that'd actually be kinda nice because hopefully they'd just go looking for him. There weren't that many Gryffindor Prefects after all. And Zander trusted the Hogwarts population, mostly. Well, he trusted the Hogwarts population that wasn't named 'Aegis Dane' or 'Bart Maroon' for that matter. But Aegis would probably return the badge and Bart... Well no, Zander wasn't all that sure about Bart.
So maybe there wasn't a need to be in total panic? Surely whoever saw it would return it.
JK there was total need for panic. So much so that Zander broke out into an even FASTER walk towards the--Huh?
Hearing his name, he turned around to give the Maggie girl a confused expression. Wait a minute. Was that his badge??? WAIT A MINUTE!!!
THAT WAS HIS BADGE. HIS BADGE. THE BADGE. THAT WAS HIS BADGE!?!
Zander's eyes grew probably triple their size as he started making his way back. And wait, that was a silly question. Of course he really wanted it back!!! "Maggie, I can't believe you found it!!!" He could kiss her. Except wait no, no he couldn't. She was like eleven. And he was happy, but not THAT happy. "Thanks so much! I almost thought I'd never see it again! I really owe you one!"

Was he.......for real?!
Did he honestly believe she'd just miraculously found it???????
How naive was he??????
A lot. Apparently. Maggie took a few steps back when he walked towards her, just in case he was going to try and just take the badge from her. Doing the whole 'holding it up' trick wouldn't exactly work, seeing as he was taller than her. So she held it to the side, away from him. Did she really have to explain to him how this was going to go? She wasn't a cheesy supervillain.

"How MUCH do you want it back?"
HMM?
Huh?? Zander was confused. This was time for CELEBRATION not for asking random questions. Not that random, but y'know, still.
Hadn't he already expressed how much he wanted his badge? A lot. Only his entire Hogwarts career depended on it. "Uh, pretty badly?" But why did that matter? She had found it. So he was in the clear now. Flamsteed wasn't going to kill him and the Headmistress wouldn't either. Today was a good day to be alive. Now was it just him or had Maggie somehow managed to get further away? Could've sworn he was walking towards her...
So uh, could he have it back please?
Again, super thankful that she found it and all. But this was kind of weird.

This was not exactly going as planned.
Maggie hadn't reckoned with a Prefect who didn't have the slightest idea about how coercion worked.
Did she really have to spell it out for him? Apparently so. "What do I get if I give this back to you?" Get it now, Zander? Yes? No? This was getting a lot more complicated because he was clearly happy about seeing his badge again. He wasn't supposed to be HAPPY. "I mean. I could just take it to Professor Flamsteed instead." Pause.
"Or the Headmistress." Who wasn't exactly his best friend.

For the record, this wasn't going exactly how Zander had planned either.
...But then again, losing the badge was never in his plan. It was just something that happened. Just like finding it was just something that happened. And dealing with a very Slytherin, Slytherin just happened. Quite unfortunately Zander Adair had no control. And things were going very, VERY down hill. 'Cause he just figured out what was going on here.
Maggie hadn't just miraculously found his badge. Or maybe she had. That part was still a bit unclear to be completely honest. But he did very well understand that she wanted what was in it for her. And to be honest, Zander wasn't quite sure. Uh, the very satisfaction of knowing that you helped out a very distressed Sixth Year and saved his life? Though he figured that's not really what she was talking about.
"NO!" He figured he could probably explain the situation to Flamsteed, but "don't tell Truebridge!" UH. Think fast, Adair! "I'll do it, I'll do what you want... Just don't turn the badge in." Only one question... uh, what exactly did she want?
"I can try to get you House Points? Is that what you want?... Points? Didn't everyone want points? Surely he could figure out a way to get her some of those.

FINALLY!
It seemed like Zander FINALLY got what Maggie was trying to do. Took him long enough. His little outburst when she mentioned the headmistress earned him an amused smirk. That had been the intended reaction yes. Maggie passed the Prefect badge from one hand to the other, still keeping it as far away from Zander as possible. She might have been in a position of power right now but that didn't mean he couldn't just take it from her if he tried.
He was stronger than her, physically at least.
House points? "House points? No." He could probably only get her a handful which meant nobody would even notice she earned them. "How abouuuuut...you owe me. And I can come to you for whatever I want and you'll do it, no questions asked?" Smiiile. "How does that sound?"

Not that he really had a choice.
Yes, yes he did finally get what Maggie was trying to do. But at the same time... He had absolutely no clue. What could Zander Adair possibly give to the third year to make her give him his badge back. She seemed extra Slytherin. Probably drove a tough bargain. Merlin, how'd he even get in this mess in the first place?!
Zander's eyes followed his badge as it was passed back and forth between the girl's badge. She could have whatever she wanted. It was clear he was desperate at this point. Ahem. That probably didn't even help his case. Zander really needed to learn how to handle these things. Gosh. You'd think they'd put something about 'demanding little girls with big personalities' in their Prefect's Handbook. Unfortunately, they didn't.
So she didn't want house points? What. Who DOESN'T want house points??? So this girl was obviously not a team player. Noted. Though he probably could've figured that one out earlier. "Owe you?" he raised a VERY suspicious eyebrow. What. What could he possibly owe her? Yet somehow he found himself agreeing. It was apart of that gut thing that Gryffindors were known for doing. His mind was setting of sirens, but his heart just wanted the badge back. It wasn't his fault, okay?!!? "Fine. Deal. Just give me my badge," he held his hand out expectantly 'cause if they had a deal then he'd need the badge back. And uh, scouts honor for the 'owe'ing thing. Oh uh, please?

No, Magdalena Natalie Traulton was in no Prefect's Handbook. She was unique......
.....uniquely cunning.
The way he repeated her request made her think that he wouldn't agree. It WAS a quite risky promise to make (for him) but Maggie had hoped that he was desperate enough right now. And turns out he really was. They had a deal then. And Zander looked like someone who wouldn't break it either. Not that he COULD really. Seeing as this had happened. Him losing his badge. Her finding it. Wouldn't want anyone else to know about it, right?
"Awesome." She smiled at him, taking a few steps closer. "See you around then." And with that she tossed him the badge before stepping around him and making her way down the corridor. Bye, Zanderrrr.

Okay, it was time to make Hogwarts look prettier with a bit of yellow. Hehe.
Lux had originally wanted to do both red and yellow, but she had a feeling that Professor Quigley wouldn't make an exception in her case. 'But I'm an Honorary Lion' probably wouldn't cut it in his eyes the same way as it hadn't with Professor Flamsteed when she had asked to use the Gryffindor common room on occasion.
The man had actually LAUGHED at her.
HMPH.
Walking along a random corridor and looking for something to change that was a bit more interesting than a random stretch of wall, Lux spotted the statue of Gregory the Smarmy. Sometimes she forgot that thing was here since it was kind of creepy. Maybe some bright and cheery yellow would make him look better.
Pointing her wand at the statue, she called out, "Colovaria!" There. That was much better.

Oh she was unique alright. But... Zander was pretty sure that uniquely cunning wasn't quite the proper term for it.
Uniquely manipulative, more like it.
Ahem.
Awesome. That wasn't how Zander would describe this either. Merlin, they had two very different points of view on this whole interaction. Of course getting his badge back was awesome... But it wouldn't have been necessary had she not stolen it in the first place WHICH HE NOW UNDERSTOOD SHE DID, OKAY!? Hmph. But if he didn't agree to her little wager then he'd be in deep trouble. So he tried not to give her the satisfaction of throwing a fit or anything. But oh was he throwing a fit on the inside. You can bet that.
As she turned, Zander almost really threw a fit because HIS BADGE??? And then it came flying through the air only seconds later and the Gryffindor had to crash into the floor to catch it before it fell and broke or something. No badge was probably better than pieces of a badge.
And then he watched. He watched in confusion and partial anger as she walked down the hallway. What the heck was he going to have to owe her?
