Gobstones Preliminary Match: Ravenclaw vs. Slytherin

http://i827.photobucket.com/albums/z...atchBanner.jpg
The building used for the Gobstones matches had had its doors closed against the early autumn morning chill. Its surfaces magically dusted by Professor Tanner and Mr. Kitridge, the school's Gobstones sponsors and made ready for the term's second preliminary match.

The blue and green marbles were set out and the playing 'field' had been marked. Chairs were set out on each side of the arena creating a Viewing Area for those not playing to watch.

Mr Kitridge had walked in with his hands stuck in his coat pockets against the brisk autumn morning air, the Arithmancy Professor had graciously set up the hall for the second match so Leo could focus on lighting the fireplaces and getting warmed up.

As the teams assembled he put his wand to his mouth to enhance his whistle to get the players attention. "Good morning and welcome to the Gobstones club, today's our second game of the season, I hope you're all as excited and geared up as I am." Not waiting for any responses Leo quickly signalled for the teams to choose their representatives for the first shot of the game.

"Let's begin!"

Eden McGee and Priscilla Ashcroft headed out on the court with their shooters. The two girls swung their shooters and watched their stones take off. The green stone rolled up to the first obstacle where it without any explainable reason just stopped flat. No amount of cheering from the snake bench made it budge. The blue stone surpassed its opponent and continued past several obstacles before it stopped.

"The first point of the game goes to Ravenclaw!" Leo declared.

Zhenya Burton and Evangeline Shacklebolt took the reins for their respective houses next. The green stone made swift progress towards the Jack Stone and stopped at a safe distance. Shacklebolt's, however, edged it out and came to a halt a bit closer. "Points to Ravenclaw, well played by both."

Both houses changed players once again, with Jenna Hensley stepping up for Slytherin and TiaMarie Mancini for Ravenclaw. Slytherin's roll was released first, landing only an inch from the goal. Though Mancini's roll was accurate, it would have taken a perfect effort to surpass Hensley's. "And Slytherin is on the board!" she exclaimed.

This match up was a sixth year against a seventh year. The Slytherin stone started out fast and lost momentum just in time, landing perfectly up next to the Jack Stone; the Ravenclaw shot was good, but not good enough. The smell of gob filled the air as McGee's face took the full brunt of the squirt. "And Slytherin takes the lead!"

Eden remained on the court for the eagles while the snakes switched in Priscilla again. The two girls swung their shooters and kicked their stones forward in the court. Sadly for the snakes the shooter missfired casuing their green stone to fall down on the court, roll a meter and then stop. The blue stone on the other hand picked up good pace as it layed many meters and obstacles between itself and its opponent before it stopped.

"2 points to Ravenclaw!" Leo announced from the sideline next to Tiara. Wasn't that Cassie and Nessa that he saw sitting in the stands?

McGee and Burton took to the court again. Zhenya seemed to have picked up some sort of luck on the bench during the short break. She was getting her house's stone closer and closer to the Ravenclaw's stone, and the goal in extension. "Slytherin scores 3 new points at the end of the second round. Slytherin leads 7-5, as we head into the third round!" Leo declared.

McGee stayed on for Ravenclaw, but Ethan Mordaunt took the stone for Slytherin. Both players released their gobstones, but the green one rolled a bit further, landing it closer to the target. "Slytherin scores again," Tiara declared. They were on a little hot streak here, weren't they? "Next roll of the round, players take your positions."
