The driver and snack lady sit waaaaaay up front in the driver's cab, but there are plenty of other compartments up here! Careful you don't sit in the Prefects' cab though. They bite.
There she was! As if he had summoned her from just mentioning her to Rusty! "Hey, Marsha!" He grinned as she joined them. He was most excited for her to meet Rusty. "I tried to look for you on the platform... but it was even busier here than Diagon Alley was, I think!" Zac suddenly wondered about that other first year that Marsha was going to introduce him to. All the main friends to be made on the first day, of course!!
"Really?" He began, turning back to Rusty. "I reckon there's gonna be hundreds of people there. Maybe THOUSANDS. The castle is sooo big, you know?" The question HE was wondering about was... "How many people do you think will be in first year with us?" He also hoped at least one of these two new friends would be in the same house as him. Otherwise he might not see them as much. Maybe. He didn't know how the dorms worked. But he was very excited to find out.
Well, that was a fair enough reasoning for the nickname. Rusty the redhead! Zac chuckled, "He said you went rusty?" Hehehe. "That's funny, but a cool nickname." Referring his surname to Daffodils, though? Zac made a 'hmmm' noise as if he had made a breakthrough, "Maybe that's another sign that I'm gonna be good at Herbology. The wand shopkeeper said I'm gonna be good at that." He nodded. Mr Dafforn the Herbologist had a nice ring to it.
He eyed his wand again, "I can't wait use my wand." But apparently they couldn't use it outside of school so he was afraid to even touch it. How would the magic police even know if he had used it, though? HOW DID IT WORK? He'd find that out, for sure.
"I'm kinda new to magic. My dad is a wizard and my mum is a muggle. But I live with my mum so my dad doesn't get to teach me much." Zac shrugged. He kind a liked the idea of having a fresh mind and skillset for Hogwarts anyway. From the way Rusty was talking, Zac guessed that she was from a muggle background. He grinned widely. "My mum was like that when we went to Diagon Alley too! But I think she was a bit creeped out as well. She stayed in the Leaky Cauldron." GIGGLE. Doing know whos what. Besides, she was used to some things on account of his dad being a wizard. "Are your parents muggles?" He asked.

”The platform was way more crazy than I thought it would be!” She agreed with the boy, nodding her head. Marsha was excited, she loved meeting new friends. ”It’s realllly nice to meet you. I’m so happy I’ve met people before school has even started - I was worried I would know no-one at all!” Nightmare material that was. Or, it had been until she had met Lance and Zac and Jenna in Diagon Alley… Though Jenna was older so she wasn’t really sure if she would see her again this term… but that was okay. She had been really nice anyway.
As she sat, she listened to the ends of their conversation, after all she had just interupted and Mam always told her that was rude. Then she broke out in a HUUUUGEEEE grin at Rusty’s ginger comment. ”All the best people, have red hair…” She tried to be serious, honestly she did - but she couldn’t help it and very quickly ended up giggling at herself. Really, she just liked having red hair. Reeeeallllyyyy liked her red hair.
Marsha smiled, ”There are lots of people, at least from what I know from my aunts and things.. I think my Mums cousins and extended family are finally finishing up at Hogwarts.” She said, thinking about the few extended family members she was hiding from who were in the top three years. She hoped they would be too busy studying for their OWLs and NEWTs to bug her. Maybe? She could hope they wouldn’t look out for her and embarrass her too much. She also knew that her family were trying to look out for her but she was almost twleve! She wasn’t tiny anymore.
The Welsh girl couldn’t help but giggle at the name Dafforn - or the link to Daffodils… but she supposed her name of Hanover reminded her older cousins of a hangover which was awful! So she couldn’t say anything against Zac’s last name. Nope. WAAAAAY better than her own. Ohh, she loved flowers and Zac was going to be good with herbology. ”I hope that I’m good with the animals - I love them… in fact, my cat Duchess is around here somewhere, she jumped out of my arms and started to chase smells as soon as I took her out of her carrier in the luggage room, hold… thing.” She told them with a soft smile. Hopefully she wouldn’t pick any fights with the other cats.
Looking out of the window, Marsha grinned at the people on the platform who were smiling at family. She had already said goodbye to her parents, Alis was only little and it was cold outside - she didn’t want to get a letter next week in the post telling her that she had gotten a cold because of her. Nope. So she had given them all cuddles (okay, so Alis had a really LONG cuddle) and then hopped on the train. Like an adult. A really SMALL adult, but a grown-up all the same… Right?
“Oh, My parents met at Hogwarts,” Marsha started, taking a deep breath. ”But, my Mum died when I was really little so my Grand-parents and my Tad took care of me, and my Mam and Tad got married when I was like five or something…” The girl shrugged, showing it wasn’t a big deal. She loved her Mam. ”And my little sister Alis turned one a few weeks ago.” There… that was that out of the way… and there was no way she was explaining the aunts and uncles and extended family… Though if they managed to track her down she might have too…. Hmm, she would figure that out when she had to. Heh.
She giggled when Zac told Rusty about his Mam staying in Leaky Cauldron. ”It’s true!” she piped up, as if Rusty might think he was lying. ”That was the day we met. I bumped into him and my Mam was staring at a dress in a shop window and Zac was going back to meet his Mam in the pub for lunch.” She nodded her head, grinning.
Frowning slightly, Marsha tried to remember how any of her non-magical friends and family sent mail. Her head titled to the other side as she looked at Rusty. ”But… how do you send mail if you don’t use owls? Pidgeon? Hawk? EAGLES?” Her eyes went wide as the elven year old imagined a flock of EAGLES carrying post. It would be a glorious sight to see, she was sure of it! The light catching on their feathers. Ohhh. Beautttiful.
“Thousands?” Wow. That was a LOT of friends to make. Rusty didn’t know what she’d been worrying about, she’d feel right at home with all those people! “I hope there’s lots, how many people do you think we share rooms with? I share with my little sister and one of my cousins at home and sometimes some of the other kids sleep in with us too if we’re allowed to stay up late.” Which was always fun. Samhain was the best, cause they got to stay up all night if they wanted to and sometimes they all slept downstairs so it was like one HUGE sleepover. “And you have FAMILY there? That’s so cool! I wish I could have brought my family too, my Robin would love it...”
“Yup. That’s me. Rusty Rowan.” She made a moustache out of the end of her hair and held it in place by scrunching up her top lip. Like she did with Robin sometimes... and they’d used her hair too, cause their hair was too short. Oh no! Rusty had forgotten to give Robin their present before she’d left! And now it was too late! ... She’d just have to wait. So, Zac and Herbology, Marsha and animals. Good! “I think I’m gonna be good at divination. I read the whole of my book when I bought it - and my charms book - but the divination one is so cool. It has all these cool things and tips that are different from the muggle ways and I’m so EXCITED for it!” And she was going to have to remember every little thing in it to tell her family back home. They’d LOVE it.
“I want to use mine too. The shopkeeper was quite grumpy when I bought it, but I think that’s cause he was a taurus and it was a bad day for tauruses when I bought it.” She took the wand from the holster that Mr Wand Person had sold to her and looked at it again. She hadn’t been without it since she’d bought it, and she knew every little line and dent in the wood by heart already. Gosh she loved it.
“Well we do magic but not like this kind of magic. We do the kind with magic circles and spirits and candles and singing and sometimes dancing and it’s wonderful. And my Grammy already taught me some of the stuff about telling the future, but I didn’t know there was a school for it. I don’t think my mum or anyone can do the Hogwarts kind of magic though.” Though, of course, she had no idea if her dad could, but she didn’t mind, she didn’t need to know him. “Your mum died? That’s sad. But it’s good you’ve got a new one.” Rowan took a deep breath, and started to explain her own... situation. “I have my mum and I have four siblings, Laurel, Robin, Willow and Brook, and I have an aunt and uncle and three cousins and our Grammy Helen.” Pause, breathe, count on fingers... “And then there’s... eleven... twelve... thirteen other adults. And four other kids. And we all live together in these houses that are all attached so they’re kinda all like my family and it’s great and we all eat and play together and stuff.”
...Eagles? “No..! We don’t use animals to do work for us! We just send post with the postman. Or at the post office. Where people’s jobs are to sort the letters and stuff and send them to the right places in cars and things. I think. I’ve never sent a letter, I don’t really know anyone to send a letter to.”
Bleu quickly found an empty compartment. It was so hard to find one at the front of the train but she was lucky enough to get one. She was hoping Dylan would have been around here somewhere already but he wasn't. She was pretty sure he would be around soon. She placed her owl up in the luggage rack. All their luggage was generally packed at the back of the train. All they needed to worry about was small bags and their animals and anything else they had with them.
She pulled out a book from her purse and got comfortable. It was going to be a long ride, but hopefully Dylan would be her entertainment soon enough.
Is there anything better than candy? It made nearly everything better in life. Only nearly because...she didn't know why it only nearly made everything better. Well candy isn't able to give you hugs or cuddles. Honestly though, Emmylou could really go for cuddles right now but maybe not? She just walked along looking for a compartment to sit in because she was bored. Meeting new people would the best thing ever right now. Looking around for a compartment to sit in, the sixteen year old peeked into one and she knew who it was. She frowned before walking into the compartment. "Would it be okay if I sit here?" The sixth year smiled at Dylan's girlfriend.

Hey, who knows..they might be in Hufflepuff and they really need more hardworking students so they could win the housecup for the second time in a row.
Henric took a peek inside to see if the compartment was empty and it was. He left the door open, in case anyone new or his friends might want to share a compartment with him.He heaved his carry-on luggage on top of the rack before settling down on his seat. As usual, he stared out of the window, amazed at the amount of parents who came to see their children off. Suddenly, he thought of the muggle orphans he dearly missed back at his hometown orphanage. He loved doing youth volunteering work during his summer vacation and thinking about them made him sad. "If only they could go to Hogwarts...wouldn't it be wonderful?"he thought to himself.
He sighed, knowing he couldn't tell them all about his wizardry or the magical world he was living in. But that didn't mean, he never sneaked in a few dragon naptime stories.

Is there anything better than candy? Emmylou could really go for cuddles right now but maybe not? She just walked along looking for a compartment to sit in because she was bored. Meeting new people would the best thing ever right now. Yes. She needed to find, something to do or someone because this train ride for some reason was very boring this year. She really couldn't believe that it was her sixth year. WOW! She remembered when she transfered here from Beauxbatons in her third year. The blonde was so nervous but also very happy to go to Hogwarts. She wished that she had been here since her first year but she wasn't but she was here now and that was the only thing that mattered.
Emmylou peeked around every time she saw a compartment open. The first few were so full and some of the others she really didn't know anyone and she was all about going into a group full of people because you know she was so brave but she was a Gryffindor but still not very brave. After maybe a few minutes the sixteen year old found a compartment with only one person in there. "Hello." The Alabama native said. She had a somewhat thick southern accent. Anyone that lived around here could tell that she was from the United States. That wasn't something that was normal around here.

Henric turned his head around when he heard a voice saying "Hello". An older girl had came in to probably share a compartment with him. By the sound of her greeting, she didn't seem to be from his country. He smiled and greeted back,"Hello..."
He waited for her to say anything more but none came.Should he say something back? He didn't want her to feel unwelcome to share a compartment with him so he told her in a quiet voice,"There is still room for your things up on the rack if you like."

Emmylou held her bright purple trunk that she had painted. She was told not to paint it but she was bored and babysitting her baby cousin Chase and ended up painting it. There was nothing wrong with that. "I'm Emmylou Duchannes." Her grandma Duchannes always said to greet a new person with your first and last name, she taught her that very young. Emmylou didn't know why but she did know that she always greeted people like that unless they already knew who she was from a mutual friend then she would just say her first name.
Emmylou looked up at the rack. "Thank you, thank you." She smiled at the boy. Guy? Was that a better term? She could do this. The four foot, eleven inch girl picked up her trunk and tried to put it up on the rack but she was still a little short for it.

"Henric Nicolei, nice to meet you,"he replied to her introduction.Henric scooted over a little so she could come in. Henric returned to mind his own business but paused when he noticed that she couldn't quite reach the top of the rack in order to put her trunk. Being kind as he always had been and standing almost 168 centimeters tall, he stood up from his seat to help her with her luggage.
"Here let me..."he offered. He took her trunk and lifted it easily over the rack. After ensuring her trunk was safely secured, he looked back at her and smiled again. "There...its fine now..."he said before returning back to his seat.
"Forgot to mention,I'm from Hufflepuff,I'm in my 4th year now...and you?"he asked politely.

Helena overheard these two kids talking about Eagles and the Post office and mustered some bravery to interrupt." Excuse me, I'm sorry I overheard you talking about the post office.."
Evie continued to stand there and look at him, taking a moment to see if he was actually serious. His next comment did seem genuine though. She was debating leaving or not, but then her little black kitty jumped out of her bag and sauntered into the compartment before hopping onto the bench and curling up on its side.
"The cat has spoken," she said. Evangeline ignored the boy and stepped past him, plopping herself onto the bench against the window. Her kitty then moved and curled up on her lap instead. The boy CLEARLY didn't want her there, so she didn't speak. She just wanted a place to sit.
Hugh was allergic to cats. Badly.
He wanted to say something like yo, I could go into anaphylactic shock but was behind on what was rude to say or not. So he just sat there and took his punishment. This was what he got for being generous.
And all he wanted to do was read about Freud.
He didn't say a word. Too engrossed in his book and the neck scratching that was now happening.

Bleu looked up from her book when she heard the door open to the compartment, thinking it might be Dylan, but she was surprised to see Emmylou. She hadn't given the girl a very good first impression so she knew she needed to fix that right away. "Of course! Please sit!" She smiled and waved the girl in. "I've been hoping to see you. I really want to apologize for the way we met. I was in a really terrible way and I am very sorry if I did anything to offend you."
Bleu generally was a well mannered and even tempered person but when she was upset about something she could be hard to handle sometimes and she knew that. She always owned up to her mistakes.

Well, she was no longer an ickle firstie so Janelle had that going for her. Having dispensed with her luggage, she set out in search of a place to sit. The problem with being one of the last ones on the train was.........seats were hard to come by. Discreetly peeking into compartment after compartment, Janelle stopped when she saw a familiar face. Surprised to see Angel alone, Janelle slowly opened the door to the compartment. She leaned in hopefully and said, "Hi Angel".
Janelle stepped into the compartment and added, "Mind if I join you?" She knew that Angel was most likely waiting for her sister or boyfriend or something like that. Anyway, Janelle figured that she could keep her company in the meantime. "How was your summer?", she asked. Summer had gone by waaaay too fast and here they were, back on the Hogwarts Express.
Angel was startled when someone opened the door. "Of course, I don't mind." Angel really had been feel a bit lonely just reading the book. "As you can see I'm on my own, want to try and get some piece and quiet before I join the rest of the gang." Angel gigged.
"Oh it was terrible, I went on the field trip which was amazing but other than that I've had a terrible summer, didn't get my Hogwarts stuff until very late, been Ill I had no idea a cold could last so long, it knocked me straight for six, I thought I was playing cricket at one point." Angel laughed as she looked back at Janelle. "How was yours?"

Sixth year in a row that Dylan had given in to Ginger's begging to be let out... and she ran off. Again and again she ran off, causing him to almost miss the bloody train. He wondered if next year he'd give in...
Yeah. He probably would.
The sixth year began poking around the train, searching for his girlfriend Bleu. When he finally found her, he slid into the compartment. "Hey," he greeted, putting up his things before bending down to kiss her. "Sorry about that," he went on, turning round to let Ginger back out of her cage. "Ginger ran off... silly cat." He chuckled, patting the cat's head before sitting down beside Bleu and slipping his arm around her.

Bleu smiled. Ginger was a feisty but sweet cat. "That's alright you're here now." She grinned after he kissed her and as he sat down she nestled into his side. "I was worried for a moment that you had missed the train." Which was possible but he could always get there through the Floo network or his Dad could apperate with him to Hogsmeade. But then she would have been extremely worried the whole ride.

Hady rubbed the fur between Hagan's ears earning herself a soft purr from the small ball of fur curled in her arms. The cat hadn't left her arms all day, it was as if he knew she needed him right now. Grinning slightly at her cat she walked slowly through the aisle between the compartments every so often peeking into one to see if it was empty or not.
Right now the teen really only had two things in mind. Find someone she knew or find an empty compartment. Either would do really at the moment. However this was proving to be of no good. Hady hadn't seen anyone she knew yet nor were any of the compartments up here empty. Okay well one of the compartments had some people in it she knew (Lux and Abby) but a boy she didn't know was in there with them and she hadn't wanted to disturb them so she had kept going. It wasn't a big deal though there were plenty more compartments further back on the train if she didn't come across one up here.
The excitement of going back to Hogwarts came to Leah later than she expected. She was a Fifth Year. She only had three more terms left, and she was... well, free. She did not know how she was supposed to feel about this: happy that she did have to come back? or sad because of ten thousand other reasons?
She slowly made her way to the front of the train, partly because she was deep in thought but mainly due to the crowds in the corridor. She looked for anybody she recognized, peering through the glass of compartment doors. Spotting one that was empty, Leah entered the compartment and took a seat. There was a girl outside who seemed to be looking for a place to sit too. Oooh, it was Hady! She waved at the Slytherin, "hi Hady, do you want to join meee?" Because Leah was kind of uh lonely here right now.

Just as she was about to keeping walking towards the back of the train someone called out to her. Twisting around enough to see over her shoulder showed her it was Leah, the nice older girl she'd met at Quidditch Camp during the summer. "Hey Leah, sure. Thanks." Hady agreed without much pause.
With a small smile she slipped into the compartment shutting the door behind her. "How was the remainder of your summer, are you glad the new term is starting?" Yup she was attempting to give talking a go as she sat down on the bench across from the older girl her cat still resting in her arms. Might as well really right? Talking with someone would help the time pass by until they reached the castle.
