| | Divination Lesson Two As you walk through the trap door things might seem a little odd, but really when have they been normal? The smell of lavender fills the room. Long science lab looking tables sit neatly in pairs with four stools around them. At each table there are four vials of something red and four vials with something yellowish. The note of the board says not to touch until instructed. Professor Cassie is sitting in her usual seat at the front of the class sipping some tea. The table near her has tea cups for anyone who would like some. As always a little snap cup is sitting where all the students can see. Quote:

Turtle shell cracks investigation time. AJ looked over her shell a few times taking in the cracks. Really, it shouldn't have taken her long at all because there were only two of them. She just wanted to make she read them right so that she could get the correct readings. The lion still didn't take this divination stuff super serious. It was mainly just fun. Who didn't like a good laugh? So, this wasn't the fart reading, but it could still be fun.
Okay. The first crack was pretty much going straight across. She looked to see what that meant. According to the picture on the board that best matched her first crack she would be staying on her current path. What did that mean anyways? Like, after Hogwarts she really would be a vet? That was going to happen no matter what the shell told her. Her mood staying the same was a good thing because she was super happy. In fact the Gryffindor was pretty much always happy so this made sense.
Now for the next crack. This one was definitely going downwards. Checking the picture on the board once more just to make sure, she read that this meant she would have some sort of situation that would involve negativity and sadness. That didn't sound good. What could that be? Could it possibly have something to do with Adi and Benny? Their fight really did make her sad. Might as well make some notes on this and put down what she thought this all meant even if they sort of contradicted themselves.
WOW. That was pretty deep, Valentine.

Alright. Moving on, then.
Getting up, Grayson went to collect the vial of dragon's blood. Ever since Professor Cassie had mentioned the options, the boy knew which one he wanted to choose. DRAGON's blood. HELLO?! It was dead magical and he was sure that it was gonna end up being more useful than some freaking oil. Besides, he wasn't squeamish. If he had to use blood, he had to use blood. Nbd.
Grabbing the vial of dragon's blood, the seventh year then headed back towards his sea-- no. Wait. Poker. He'd get one of those and THEN go back to his seat. Lazy option and all that. He didn't wanna be running back and forth.
Once he WAS back in his seat, Grayson opened the vial and poured the contents over the shell and carving. When that was done, he set the vial aside and reached for the poker instead. "Incendio!" This part was dead easy. Just wait for the end of the poker to get hot and turn orange in colour. When it did, he cast a simple "Finite!" on the fire. Cool.
'Cept not really.
Lolol he was freaking hilarious, man.
Shaking his head at his own joke, Grayson pressed the orange end of the poker into the shell and watched as it underwent the cracking process. When that was done, he placed the poker into a little bucket of water and went back to concentrating on the more interesting part.

| Reading Post 1 Toothless - Napoleon of Crime - Gryffinclaw - Owl Emissary - Pirate Auror - DoctorDonna And now came the hard part...actually doing the divination reading.
Usually he had mixed luck with the task at hand, either because of the form they were using or just him and how he managed to look at it. However in this case, Ben also had some hesitance in finding out what the turtle shell had to say for him. Did he really want to see what his future held? When his present was currently quite rocky, he wasn't all to sure he was interested in it.
What if it said it was going to get worse?
Ben copied down the various possible readings and meanings that Professor Morgan had given for future reference. He was putting it off as much as he could. Finally he took a deep breath and looked down upon the bloodied oracle bone. Taking it all in, his hand absently reach up and traced one of the cracks along the shell. The Gryffindor had to force his gaze back to his notes to see what it meant.
Straight up...and then down.
He let out a sigh of relief when he registered it was something good. Not that he was entirely sold on divination being foolproof and completely right. But he wouldn't mind some good news in his life right now.

Now came the easy part... Well, the whole process was kind of easy, but just describing the cracks in the shell and thinking about what they might mean was probably the easiest. Kate picked up a quill and positioned it toward a clean piece of parchment. With that position held in place, she turned her gaze toward her shell and studied the cracks.
As she did this, she began to write: The first crack I see is a straight line that moves up and then down. Awesome! If I am going to advance in my personal life, I hope it means that I meet more friends here and have a better social life. I still feel like such a newbie!

| urine trouble | Pat's Strong Confident Other Half | Pees Like a Champion Unicorn Racehorse Alright then. Next step included the part about reading into the cracks which was what he was looking forward to most here. Let's face it: that was the more interesting part of this whole procedure. He was curious to see if this was gonna show that he was gonna be a successful potioneer and was leading the life he wanted to lead. OR if the NEWTs were gonna be too much of a pain to bear.
Something told him that it was likely to be the second option.
Still, when the cracks emerged, Grayson observed them for a moment or two before looking up at the board. His grey eyes kept flicking between the board and the cracks on his shell as he tried to make sense of what was going on. Divination was kinda confusing and all sometimes, especially when his readings seemed to have a mind of their own. Freaking rude.
This one seemed to do that as well. There were two cracks on the oracle bone: one that went straight up and another that went across. He knew exactly what the line that went across meant but the one that went straight up? Was it exactly straight or was it more of a zigzag? Er. Jeez, man, way to confuse a dude.
It took a couple more minutes and even a moment in which Grayson had to pick up the shell and examine it a lot closer before he finally came to a conclusion. There were a few bumpy parts in the crack that went back and forth so he was gonna say that it was the zogzag option. Shame, really, because the idea of having success and riches sounded great, man. Quote:
- Large line going upwards in a zigzag formation
- Much smaller line going straight across
I have two cracks in my shell: a small one that goes straight across and a larger one that goes upwards in a zigzag formation. The small crack is easy to figure out: my mood is gonna stay the same, pretty much, and I'm gonna continue on the same path that I am on right now. I dunno hoe far into the future this is talking about but I'm not complaining about things staying the same.
The larger crack was more difficult to interpret. The zigzags were small and could only be seen up close but it was still a zigzag. I guess that means that I'm gonna be faced with a choice: one that's good and one that's dead complicated. But if its a small zigzag, does it mean that its not gonna be such a major decision? Where the outcomes are gonna be quite similar to each other?
Putting the two meanings together is confusing. I'm gonna have to make a choice where one's a good choice and the other's a complicated one but my mood and path will stay the same? That makes no freaking sense.
What? He was only stating the truth.

So her life would remain...pretty much the same, then? She wrote this down and sighed. She was hoping for some uplifting things...but then..meh. MEH. She raised her hand a little. "Do you, personally, Professor, think it makes a different between using the oil and the blood?" she asked softly. "I would think blood...the dragon blood..it has magical properties...I would think it works better but I'm not sure." She was just CURIOUS. As Cassie walked around making sure everyone was doing alright and had no questions a question came to her. Looking to Eden she gave a little smile, "Well Eden, I have studied Plastromancy for many years and what I've come to find is that I feel the Dragon's blood is my preferred choice to use when doing a reading. Do I feel it does a better reading, that is a debate that has gone on for a very long time. My own thought would be yes, because it is a ritual and the blood is magical."
She didn't really want to go against the oils knowing that many have gotten accurate reading from them, but she couldn't lie about her true thoughts either. "You can form your own opinions on which you would rather use and which you feel helps give the better reading." Wasn't experimenting fun! She gave snaps on the thought of minds growing and questioning things. Quote:

....................
The sixth year focused his attention on the board, studying the pictures and the meanings the Professor had magicked onto there. Since everything he needed was already on the board, he pulled his parchment and quill towards him before focusing on the shell. The dragon blood surely made it a whole lot easier to see the cracks.
The first crack Adi noticed was the one going straight across. "You will continue on the path you are on right now. You will maintain the mood and happenings that are in your life at this point,'' he read from the board. Hmmm. Maintain his mood? Yeah, he would. Moving on! There was a second crack going all the way upward in a straight direction. "Good things will come to you. You will find yourself faced with riches and success.'' Ooh! Adi liked the sound of that! Did that mean he would own that Hippogriff/Unicorn fast realllllly soon after graduating from Hogwarts? It was the main thing he had had mind focused on achieving. This question in turn made a question pop up in his head. "Professor? Do these meanings have a time frame? I mean do they apply for... let's say a few weeks or month? Or will they come through within a few days?'' Errr, was that a stupid question? Heh. While he waited for an answer, Adi finished up looking for anymore cracks before scribbling down:
Annnnd... DONE!
After talking a bit to Eden Cassie moved about the room more until she heard another question. This one coming from Adi, "In Ancient times when they were to predict the weather, crop planting, or even the Royal families they were used for the near future. Since then diviners have experimented on the length and it has always come to be the near future, a month at the latest. So these readings you are doing would certainly be for your near future." She really hoped it was all good for everyone.
Just as she thought that she turned and saw Toby slump in his chair. Oh no... no this wasn't good. No Toby was not one to be sad and she didn't want Javy after her for making him sad. Goodness no she didn't want to be the bad Aunt Professor. "Toby are you alright?" What could she do to make it better?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking--about the blood having magical properties. Do you think you could use any kind of blood? I wonder why dragon blood...is there a reason for only these two liquids being used over the years?" she was just...very curious.
She hoped Professor Morgan didn't mind. She didn't think professors should mind questions, though. It meant the brains were TICKING and the interest was PIQUED.

| Reading Post 2 Toothless - Napoleon of Crime - Gryffinclaw - Owl Emissary - Pirate Auror - DoctorDonna Ben wrote down his observation and was about to comment on it with his own thoughts when he noticed a second crack...this one was running nearly parallel to the first one but only going down. When he looked at his notes for the meaning of it he stomach fell. The sixth year even looked at the board for back up to make sure he had written down correctly and he had. What it was was what it was. You will be facing a situation that will involve negativity and sadness.
If ever there was a divination reading that was true that was it. Sadness was following him wherever he went and his self esteem was hovering just above the negative line. If only the one reading of his could be ensured that it most certainly be true because the other already was. Ben sighed and shaked his head, trying not to sink back into his rotten feelings where he had been lately. Picking up his quill once more, the sixth year pushed himself to give his thoughts to go with the observations. Quote:
-The crack that raises up before going down speaks of a great opportunity to come my way.
- The downward crack speaks of bad things in my life like the loss of my best friend and the sadness of being alone.
Perhaps this great opportunity will be a way of fixing things. Or at the very least, be a way of rebuilding and moving on, blocking out the sadness with something else in my life. Nothing would be the same but one could only hope to get past it.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Norah Kittredge Seventh Year | (activity 2) post 2 Lil' gooz | Sarangel | Junior Dweeb Norah scratched her nose with the end of her quill as she read over her notes, then looked back at the cracked shell. So. Reading time. She was SO READY. Bending over her parchment, she began to take notes on what the cracked shell meant, looking up at her textbook every now and then to make sure the meanings she'd copied down earlier were the right ones. She didn't want to do the whole entire thing and then see it was wrong, that'd be a disaster. Think of all the wasted ink. Horrifying. Quote:

I didn't think this whole turtle thing really made sense as a way to tell the future except now I think maybe it works because how did the shell know I'm not good at the decision thing? Decisions are hard, I think. That's why it's also kind of awful that this is what my reading says, especially now that I believe in it more, because I'm afraid I'm going to make the wrong decision. There's a second crack, too, that just goes down. That means I'm going to face a situation that's negative and sad. Maybe together the two cracks mean that I'm going to make the wrong decision which will end with me being in a negative and sad situation. I really hope that part isn't true because it sounds pretty awful. I guess you could also read it in a way that says I'll be in a bad situation and then I'll have to make a decision because of THAT, but I'll make the right decision? I like that way better. She frowned at her parchment and pushed it away again, 'cause these weren't very happy predictions, and craned her neck to try and see Bob the turtle again. He was the best part of this whole thing, after all. That was all she had to do, yeah? Would Professor Cassie let her stay and play with Bob after class? Wait. What if that was her bad decision and it ended in something horrible? Man. She was never ever making another decision again.

Zhenya's cracks were in the shell and there was blooooood in it, waiting to be read and interpreted. So, she had her name on there, Zhenya, and she had poured the blood in it and cracked it, so now it should tell her something about herself. She had a big, long look into the shell to see what was there, what directions the cracks were going in, how many there were.
She saw one crack going across, to the left, of where she hot pokered it. There was a crack going upwards in a zig zag, and there was a faint line going down, too. Zhenya wrote those down on some parchment, then looked toward the pictures Professor Cassie had, to make sure she had interpreted the cracks right. She seemed to have. Now she just needed to look them up in the textbook, cross reference, analyse, and see what life was doing to her. Quote:
1. Crack towards the side: You will continue on the path you are on right now. You will maintain the mood and happenings that are in your life at this point.
2. Upwards zig zag crack: You will be faced with choice one will be a good choice the other will give you great complications.
3. Faint downward crack: You will be facing a situation that will involve negativity and sadness. Zhenya put her elbow on the table and rested her head on her hand. Hmm... what did it mean? It was full of good bits and bad bits, really, wasn't it?
Well perhaps the sideways crack signified that she would keep going, like this, full of NEWT stress, studying as hard as she could, taking breaks regularly, sleeping, eating, attending class, homework, and the odd social interaction. It was just Seventh year woes, she knew, and perhaps that was the thing that she would continue. That was her current path. But then the crack went upwards, zig zagging. Well, she HAD to leave Hogwarts. Didn't have a choice. Perhaps the choice involved work or study for the following year. Perhaps it was to do with her family, or friends. Perhaps it would just be a choice in an exam, like a multiple choice question. Oh MERLIN, what if she chose the wrong answer? What if she failed because she chose a wrong answer, and a right answer. Would that be... like... 0 marks? Fail? Would she be able to repeat her exams? That would be a great complication!
OH SNAP OUT OF IT!
The third crack went downwards, and although it was faint, it still meant she could be facing a situation involving negativity and sadness. Well that was obvious, she didn't want to leave Hogwarts. It wasn't a choice, it was going to happen, and it was a situation that she would feel negative and sad about. Although also slightly positive about her next chapter, but still mostly negative and sad. So... so maybe if she felt negative and sad about leaving Hogwarts, it was because she had passed her exams and was sad about leaving her friends, the castle, the Professors etc. behind, OR was it because she had failed and had to come back?

Cutty flipped open his text book and thumbed though until he found the images of animals and specifically turtles, not even bothering with the table of contents. It was all quite image intensive. Holding his hot poker out he casted to cool it down before placing it on the surface of his desk. "Glacius." the metal prod landed on the surface of his work station with a metallic and heavy clud.
Cupping the turtle shell in his hand, Cutty held it at an angle so that no one could see his sacred alias. He paused for a moment trying to recall whether the shell was held upside or downside when he's pressed the hot poker into it. Then he chortled at what he found to be his own silliness. This wasn't really going to work was it? Of course, that's what he'd say now, but then if his practice turned up anything unique or extraordinary he'd be ready to wave it in the faces of all the students who were deeply into Divination.
Typical.
Studying the cracks, they seemed to go every which way at first glance. It was sort of a messy crumble, breaking off into squares and forming variant road maps. He ran a thumb over it, though testing for the depth of the line to see where the dominant break might have occurred. He found it in one that went up. And then several others that formed little hillies and horizons. He placed the turtle shell face down and consulted the book.

And then he heard his name, and looked up. Professor Cassie was standing right there, looking all concerned (which made him feel worse for being so noticeable about it). He hitched a smile onto his face (it came easy to him, even when he wasn't really feeling it) and might have also tried to surreptitiously nudge his parchment so his prediction things were covered up, too. HAhAHhahaahha! Yuh! Where was Adi? He was going to show him that he needed to remain a close contact to ensure success in life. But what if the Puffertini looked and saw the other lines and the other lines negated the straight up one? There were some options on how to handle that. One of which included straight up lying about what the meaning was. Best just intercept it with feasible judgement.
He consulted the book once again and remained unsure about one of the lines that appeared to be attached to the upward line he'd just deciphered. Quote:
Crack is a straight line that moves upward before turning down: You will find yourself with a great opportunity to advance in your personal life.
Maybe it was meant to be this one. And if so that would make a ton of sense because he never blew anything which he read as an opportunity. And in either case, both readings were good and brag worthy. Cutty continued to consult the book to decide what to make of the horizons that seemed to have formed on the multi-cracked surface of his turtle shell. Quote:
Crack is going straight across: You will continue on the path you are on right now. You will maintain the mood and happenings that are in your life at this point.
Cutty was mostly a skeptic, but there were times when things like this crossed his life's path and he had to wonder. Cause obviously, he was doing everything right.

Angel was totally enjoying this lesson but now she had to do a few things, like read the cracks that she had made appear in the shell, this was going to be epic, she just hoped that no Turtle was hurt in the making of this, because she would cry if she found out that they were.
Angel looked at the first crack on the shell, and looked at it closely. The crack was a straight line that moves upward before turning down. Angel was sure about that but what did it mean, she looked into the book and smiled it said something about her finding herself with a great opportunity to advance in your personal life.
Angel was trying to figure out what that was about her personal life was amazing, and she was sure she was advancing at a nice rate, though she would have to watch and see what happened next, with this, she didn't want to miss this opportunity, what ever it was.

So what were these choices again? And how would she know if she was faced with them?
Believe, Tia, believe.

Angel was concentrating on the first crack that it wasn't for a couple of minutes until she noticed a second crack this one was a faint downward crack, okay so now she had to figure out what this one would mean. Angel took out her book and then sighed she was going to be facing a situation that will involve negativity and sadness. Oh was this to do with Benny or something else, she wanted a hug from both her sister and Benny now. This wasn't very nice was it.

Kate re-read what she'd written down. The first crack I see is a straight line that moves up and then down. Awesome! If I am going to advance in my personal life, I hope it means that I meet more friends here and have a better social life. I still feel like such a newbie!
Okay, that seemed about right--and promising, too. A little short for something she was probably going to turn in to her professor, but she could always add more to it. Spotting a second crack, this one in a different formation, Kate added to her notes. The first crack I see is a straight line that moves up and then down. Awesome! If I am going to advance in my personal life, I hope it means that I meet more friends here and have a better social life. I still feel like such a newbie!
The second crack I see is going straight across. I don't understand this one in connection with the first one. A crack going straight across means things will continue as they are now, and that I will find happiness this way. I thought the first crack meant I would advance in my personal life? So maybe that means the new friends I might make will accept me for who I am, and that I don't have to worry about impressing anybody.

She hoped Professor Morgan didn't mind. She didn't think professors should mind questions, though. It meant the brains were TICKING and the interest was PIQUED. Eden was full of questions and Cassie just adored it. She loved questions, "Oh no, you wouldn't want to use just any blood. Ancient rituals called for you the Diviners own blood or to make it even more accurate the person's blood you were doing the reading on. I would not have you do that and many have changed the practice in using the Dragon blood for it's magical properties. Oils are used because oils are sacred and are found in many forms of rituals as well as spiritual things, so many diviners see it as magical within itself." She had plenty of books to show if anyone was even more interested in this. Quote:

And then he heard his name, and looked up. Professor Cassie was standing right there, looking all concerned (which made him feel worse for being so noticeable about it). Toby chewed on the inside of his lip for a moment, before nodding. "I'm okay, Professor." See? Lying. It had it's time and place. *guiltguiltguilt* "It's fine." He hitched a smile onto his face (it came easy to him, even when he wasn't really feeling it) and might have also tried to surreptitiously nudge his parchment so his prediction things were covered up, too. Ahem. Looking at Toby she just wasn't sure she believed him, but if he said he was fine she would (for now) take him at his word. Though she might have a little chat with Javy, she did see the reading, plus she would look at it better after class. "Well if you are okay, you do know you can speak to me anytime you have questions or would like to look at things further." Possibly he was just confused on how to do the reading and didn't want to admit? Either way she wouldn't hound him here about it.
Turning to the class she looked at the time, "Oh everyone it's time to be done for today. You all have done a wonderful job! It's been a great lesson!" She gave them all snaps as she moved back towards the front. "Please put your notes of your readings on my desk as you pass. You are welcome to keep your turtle shells and please have a brownie as you leave." As she said about the brownies a tray appeared right near the door.
Students didn't think they'd go a class without having a snack, did they? OOC: Class is dismissed! Thank you all for coming and having some fun with us. I'll close this thread around 9 p.m. EST so if you need to finish up on your shells or want to have them grab a brownie before leaving go for it!

| ~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Adi listened to as the Professor explained the answer to his question, making notes as this was happening. "Thanks for clearing that up, Professor.'' He gave her a wide smile before looking back at his freshly made notes. Too bad this only applied to his near future but he supposed that could be a good thing. At least he had something positive to look forward to soon!
...................
And so they were done with the lesson! This had been a good one. A reallllllly good one. Adi crammed all his belongings into his bag but he held the turtle shell in his hand as he stood up. "You guys going back to the common room now?'' he asked Henric and Kace. He wasn't sure if he wanted to go now because he didn't have another class right after this one. If AJ didn't have one either, maybe he could hang out with her and he could ask one of the two Puffs to take his stuff to the common room.
Adi moved to set his interpretation down on Cassie's desk. "Pretty cool lesson, Professor. Thanks for the turtle shell and the brownies!'' Plural. The latter word was plural because Adi snagged two. Now. Where was AJ?

For once, what they were doing in the lesson had hit him someplace deep and he was lost in his thoughts. The sixth year was only brought back as Professor Morgan worked to get their attention once more, ending the class and dismissing them. Did he want the oracle bone....not really...though he supposed it wasn't of anyone else's use now anyway.
Packing it and the rest of his belongings into his bag, Ben was more than ready to leave and be on his own with his thoughts. No brownie thank you. Except he saw Angel looking a little slumped as well, so after slipping the bag on his shoulder he moved over to her desk. The boy absently placing his hand lightly on one of her own. "Hey..."

If there had been a moment where he might have thought how Angel would react, it wasn't exactly how she did when she responded to him. Suddenly he had a clearly very upset girl pressed into him. And judging by the soft muffled sounds and the wet feeling he was getting on his chest, she was crying. "Easy Angel....its okay," Ben tried to assure her as he wrapped his arms around her in a kinda rare showing of public intimacy. Somehow helping someone else felt like a good change from how he himself had been pretty emotionally charged with things lately. Though he certainly didn't want to know what had upset her so much.

Toby nodded, still smiling. "I do, Professor," he replied, subconsciously fiddling with the parchment on his desk and rolling it up and folding it and whatnot. "Thanks." He nodded again, remaining all pleasant and stuff.
... Ohhhhh. Right. They had to... hand in the predictions. Well. At least she'd read it when he wasn't here, but then it didn't really give much away, he supposed. Maybe. Toby faltered for a moment, though, but did gather up his parchment to go place on the professor's desk. And he did keep hold of the turtle shell too, even though now it had sadness attached to it. He would just try to... ignore the sad parts. He had a lifetime of practice with that.
He didn't take a brownie. Toby wasn't sure he really deserved one after he'd tried to lie to himself with his reading, because he was illogical that way. Other than that, he shoved everything back into his bag and headed off towards the trap door, looking back at Professor Cassie and giving her a little wave as he went. "See ya later, Professor..." And then he was gone.

| ♥s her SS family l Wifey is MINE | Naughty Niffler l Whittysaur l #awkwardturtle<# Class was over? Awww, Lux had wanted to work more with her turtle shell. Oh well. At least there were BROWNIES. Yummy. Professor Cassie never disappointed when it came to snacks in her lessons. Shame she had forgotten to get a cup of tea earlier though. At least there was the kitchens for that.
Packing everything besides her turtle shell and interpretations in her bag, Lux stood up. "Thanks for the awesome lesson and brownies, Professor." Shell under her arm, she placed her readings on the Professor's desk before grabbing a brownie. She would have loved to grab two or five, but that wouldn't be fair to the other people who had only one. |

| doesn't proofread tweets | #wrongaboutcereal | #siriusly? | emo to the extremo Okay so really, Zander wasn't sure if he had read any of that right... But he was starting to get super tired so he'd just pretend. Ahem. That being said, he was more than just happy when Professor Morgan announced dismissal time. Heh. Thank Merlin. It was like music to his ears.
The Gryffindor quickly stuffed the turtle shell in his bag, a bit unsure of what he'd actually use it for, and gathered his notes neatly. Of course he just HAD to grab a brownie now that Professor M insisted. Man, she knew how to keep a kid happy, that was for sure. After setting his notes down in the pile he quickly stuffed a brownie into his mouth, "Bye, Professor! Thanks for the Brownie," except it probably sounded like... Well, not like that. It probably would've been smarter to say goodbye first, then eat the brownie. But Zander figured doing both at the same time would save some time.
Ahem. Anyways, he was out of here.
