Bleu thought about that question for a few moments. She had helped her aunt with her little cousins a lot. But she never really thought about what they needed to be happy and healthy. She raised her hand, "Professor, babies need formula, a lot of careful watching, diapers changed, and just a lot of love and care to be happy and healthy. It's a lot of work to take care of an infant." She was kind of nervous about what animal they would be taking care of in class now. Hopefully she wouldn't do the wrong thing. |
Woah Kace made it just in time because when he sat down, he realized Professor Thompson started the lesson. He asked an interesting question about if anyone had any experience taking care of an infant. Kace raised his hand instantly because he had experience taking care of his little cousins. I mean he was always asked to babysit and what not. He heard Professor Thompson's question and he heard Janelle's and Bleu's answer and he couldn't of have said it any better. He went with their explanations and added on to them a little bit... "Professor babies need a sense of security in order to survive. I mean if they are uncomfortable in their environment and can't adapt it could put a damage in their rate to grow." There that sounded good. He sat back and waited for the Professor to move on. |
Henric waved to Adi and the rest of the group he was with."Hey Adi! Hi Ethan,Hi everyone... oh Adi, you got that Manchester badge I see, me too! Brilliant mate! We should go to one of their matches one day,if you're still up for it!" he chuckled as he showed him his own Man U. badge. He looked around for Benny and wondered if they made up yet. Oh....there was Benny over at the other side. He should wave at him too,"Hey Benny!" ------------------------------------- Although Henric had no younger siblings or cousins of his own, he used to care and student volunteer over at the children orphanage too. He raised his hands,"Yes I did too professor,"he replied. He went silent after that when the professor asked them what the infants need most to live happily and healthily. He guessed...it would be someone to love them and care for them as best as they could. It would not always be perfect, but atleast they did not mean to abandon or leave them in the care of someone else's arm. |
TAKING CARE OF ANIMALS ERHFUIRHFITHGITGHITLGH Eden was officially SET. HAPPY. EXCITED. IF terrible things happened EVERY day this week, Eden would still be happy because of THIS lesson, okay? Her hand SHOT into the air at Professor Thompson's question. "Yes--babysitting is hard, but rewarding, if you like it--and they definitely need food. Nutrition to stay alive. And you have to feed kids or children at the right times, too..not when it's convenient for YOU." Mhmm. |
As more people arrived Lux sent them smiles and waves. It was almost time for them to begin. Yay, Zhenya had joined her. "Hey!" she said while giving her friend a playful nudge before the lesson started. Had she any experience caring for a baby? Not yet though of course she had held them before. This would change soon enough when she became an aunt and could help her sister and Jaxson with the baby. She wanted to help them even if they were around at the time. Raising her hand, Lux answered the question. "Babies want love and hugs! Everyone feels better with love in their lives and hugs bring happiness." Yep, loads of LOVE and HUGS. |
BABIES? SHE KNEW ABOUT THESE. Norah waved a hand enthusiastically in the air and waited impatiently for her turn to spread aaaalll the baby wisdom. She had two whole entire little brothers, okay? She was experienced. An expert, even, except maybe not because she was never ever going to be a real expert if real experts had to deal with diapers. That was a big no. "They don't like it if you put funny hats on them or pull their toes or wake them up when they're sleeping even if it's for a really good reason," she began, nodding knowingly because this was good information here. Hopefully the others were taking notes. And for the record, having a bruise shaped like a butterfly WAS a good reason to wake up a baby, even if her mum and baby Marcel didn't think so. "So I think they want comfort. Or maybe respect. Or maybe they're comfortable when they're respected. I dunno which." WERE THEY GONNA PLAY WITH BABIES? That's be almost as fun as the unicorns. Almost. |
As focused as he was on the fidgeting he was doing, it was impossible to miss the nudge he got, and Toby looked up to see Soph standing right there. He smiled back at her, and returned the elbow nudge. Hi, best friend. Toby continued whirling and spinning his wand around his fingers with no sign of stopping, even as Thompson began speaking. It was good to have it back again, even if he wasn't doing magic, purely for fidgeting reasons. As for the actual lesson, this sounded like something Toby would absolutely enjoy and maybe do well with. He glanced up at the question about looking after babies and raised his own (wandless) hand, the teeniest hint of a smile on his face. Mood was being boosted slightly by thoughts of Curtis, yep. Even though Toby really really missed him whenever he was here, he was at least able to focus on the happier parts of thinking about the baby nerd. That, at least, was an improvement, right? As for the question... those who knew Toby well might have noticed the faintest of mischievous glints in his eye. He was thankful that others had mentioned love and hugs and the like, otherwise he would have felt obliged to go with that answer rather than his own idea. Toby kept his hand raised and offered his totally innocent suggestion. "Babies need milk, it's like, super important and stuff. That's why all mammal babies can get milk straight from the mother. Cows make loads of milk, don't they? But baby humans don't benefit from cows milk for a long time, not 'til they're like a year old, and they can actually just have formula. So if you were to, say, bring home a cow to help provide milk for your baby brother, it probably wouldn't be very helpful, even though cows are super awesome." Toby lowered his hand again, oh-so-casually adding, "Though I've heard it's unwise to bring one into the kitchen to surprise your parents. They might not like it." He said it so deadpan, but it was pretty easy to do so. Toby barely remembered The Incident, after all. Still, he was snickering on the inside, and dared not look at Sophie. "But yeah. Babies drink milk." That was the point he was making. But it would have been a crime not to make the other reference. Toby still found it inappropriately amusing, and he was clinging onto any funny thought he could, at the moment. If Ella was here, she would laugh. If Piers was here, he would not. Really, though. Cows were awesome. #moo |
Class had officially started, well kind of, and Zhenya listened as they were told they would be caring for creatures today. Oh, well, Zhenya could always learn more about creatures. It was one area she wasn't... well, great in. The theory was interesting, but she was often challenged with a fit of nerves in the practice, so today would be a good challenge. First they were speaking of infants. What was the most important thing? Well there were many things, and Zhenya listened to the answers her classmates provided. She agreed with all of them, but didn't really have anything new to provide, so she continued to listen. Until she realised there was one very serious thing they all needed, though not necessarily desired at infancy. She raised her hand and waited until she was called upon then said "Er... well, it's not necessarily something they desire when they're infants but all human infants need a name. Otherwise they might not have any sense of identity." So yeah, necessary for psychological development. Wasn't this a thing the nasty muggles did, shave prisoners hair and remove them of their name, then give them a numerical identity? Awful awful stuff. And even animals generally had names. |

Angel then didn't raise her hand, she had always wanted a little sister but instead she was part of triplets which was fun and she enjoyed spending time with them but a little sister would be good. Angel looked at the Professor and smiled as she raised her hand. "Professor, you need somewhere that you feel safe." Angel loved the fact that she was safe and sound at home. |
Baby things... They were studying baby things today. He didn't much mind baby animals, those were cool, but he found it slightly unnerving that the first question they were asked was about HUMAN babies. Ew. Zeke semi-raised his hand anyway. He'd seen plenty of them... and they were fine so long as they weren't crying or pooping or messing with their food. Babies were actually kinda gross. The answers his peers provided sounded sufficient enough to him, so he didn't feel as if there was any way for him to contribute more to this conversation. OH WELL. Third year Gryffie just standing to attention here. |
Leah smiled at the professor as the lesson began. She was eager for this class, and it seemed that her classmates were feeling the same. Practicing REAL care? Hmmm. Were they practicing FAKE care until now? This was confusing. Babies? Leah shook her head at the first question. Although she loved little kids, she rarely had a chance to play with one, let alone care for them. The second question though, she could answer. "I agree with Marigold and Lux - infants need LOVE in order to be happy." And that worked for people and creatures of all age! Leah was almost sixteen and she wanted to be loved. |
Benny had let his gaze wander around as he awaited class to begin. So it was how he caught sight of Adi after he greeted the professor, the Hufflepuff seemingly having arrived shortly after him. No surprise, seeing they both loved the class and Adi tended to always be one of the first to arrive at lessons. Before he turned away, the Gryffindor noticed the other boy fidgetting with something, registering the badge moments later. Oh...that thing. The badge he remembered being told Henric had gotten from him. Speaking of Henric, he heard the younger Puffer call out to him. Ben did his best to ignore it, especially as he noticed where Henric was. The sixth year instead descretely moving closer to Angel just as Thompson got them all started. ---------------------- The Gryffindor was listening as class was begun, but only half-heartedly. This was harder than he thought, tuning out the tension to enjoy the class they all loved. Letting out a soft sigh under his breath, Ben gathered his focus but didn't answer the first question put before them. What did he know really about babies anyway? Not like he was an expert, not even of dragons, and he was an only child. |
Babies? They were talking about babies. Hmm well um alright then. Hady shuffled about a little from foot to foot as she listened to everyone else give their answers. They all were pretty much saying the same things so there was no sense in repeating all that. She might not have had her own siblings but she did have a few cousins and friends back home with younger brothers and sisters. It might not be much but it was something. Plus if it counted for anything she'd raised all three of her pets from babies...not human babies of course but somewhat similar still. After a moments thought of her pets Hady raised her hand, "Guidance. Babies as they grow will need guidance so they can learn right from wrong and how to do things in order to continue to grow." It might sound easy but really it wasn't. Everything needed someone to help teach it, understand it and care for it. Guidance was right up there with love and nutrition wasn't it? |
Awkward. Things were intense between Adi and Benny still. Angel looked like something was brewing inside her too. Maybe she was upset with the besties fighting too. AJ didn't like to pick sides, but she was going to support her man. She stood next to him and glanced between the trio every so often. When the professor started to speak, she tried to give him her full attention. Babies? Did this mean... Oh man. Please be a baby unicorn. Please be a baby unicorn. AJ had to try really hard to compose herself. Just imagine if there actually was a baby unicorn. More point deductions? Probably so. Anywho, AJ didn't really have any experience when it came to babies. There weren't any younger siblings in her house. Thank goodness for that too because they could be very demanding and she just knew her mom would make her change diapers. What to add? She sort of had experience with baby unicorns. That was the same thing, yes? The brunette raised her hand. "I know they don't like to be startled." So, in a way she had answered the question by adding what babies don't need. |
someone had to mention it ;) So Tia definitely enjoyed magical creatures lessons, but then again who didn't like creatures? There was always something to learn about them and it was sort of a safe adventure when dealing with them. At Professor Thompson's introduction though on caring for a human infant, Tia smiled thinking of her little cousins. She didn't really care for them; not without direct supervision at least. And being the youngest, unlike some of her classmates, she had no experience in caring for baby siblings. But she did know a couple things which were already mentioned. They required food, love, attention, guidance. But there was one more thing she knew about babies which hadn't been mentioned. Raising her hand, "Clean, unsoiled diapers. Human infants are just like us, they poop, only they do so in their diapers and if not changed promptly can lead to health problems." Yes, she mentioned poop and she didn't even laugh |
Jackson just sat at his seat silently until Professor Thompson started the class already. His chocolate brown eyes sometimes looked at Leah who was sitting at two rows in front of him. He hadn't seen her for a while, maybe because both of them were really busy preparing the OWLs or maybe she went home for Christmas break. Ugh, why he had to think about her? Focus on your study, Jackson! FOCUS! Right, back to the lesson. Babies? So, they're gonna learn how to take care of creatures' babies? Well, he found babies were cute though he didn't have younger siblings or nephew/niece (kinda surprising if Micky got married and have babies). And what did he know about babies? "Professor, babies love to cry. A lot. But it's because crying is like their only way to communicate and tell the parents that they need to be fed or diaper change or anything." The Korean boy spoke up as he raised his hand. "So, they need attention and lovable patient parents to handle them." |
SPOILER!!: Adi, Caleb, and Henric before class! But back to the Professor... They were going to what?! Ethan blinked at the news, and just continued to stare at the man before them. Well, the subject isn’t called Care for Magical Creatures for nothing, so it was expected that they should know...or at least get an experience with the actual practice of taking care of something that is breathing and alive. The question is...what kind of creature will they be taking care of? Hopefully, it isn’t something that can easily fly away. AND NOPE, hopefully not REAL infants. Merlin, no. With that in mind, Ethan raised his hand to share his answer. “Attention, professor. Lots of it.” He’d seen muggle mothers (and fathers) fuss over their children most of the time, so yeah, attention must be one of the answers. And look at those girls go gaga the moment Professor Thompson mentioned the words human infant. Cute and all yeah, but...will they still gush happily about those wailing creatures if they got like, a whole lot the size of a Quidditch Team? Don’t think so. |
.....What? The Gryffindor couldn't help but be a little disappointed at the opening vague question. It was even more vague than the normal vagueness. You know? 'Cause normally Zander could at least speculate as to where the lesson was headed. But this time... Human babies? Unless they were actually dealing with babies here, which Zander hoped they wouldn't be. 'Cause how lame would that be, right!? If he wanted to work with babies he could've just gone back home to a daycare or something. But he expected great things from Thompson. So what the heck was this about? And if they really were dealing with babies... That'd mean that Professor Thompson would've had to get his hands on a baby for each of them and where the heck would he get that many babies? It was a little suspicious. Also, Zander agreed with the answers about food, so he didn't see a need to add on. He did, however, nod his head in agreement. What that one said, sir! |

Infants? Sophie smiled at the topic, thinking immediately of Curtis and Helena, the only two babies she had ever really liked. Babies in general were pretty gross and hard to care for, and she wasn't about that life. No, she could hardly even take care of the kitten Cutty had gotten for her - an actual real human was completely out of the question. She had careers to worry about and a love life to figure out and friends to care for. There would be enough on her plate. But thinking about those two kids, Sophie began to think of things... much of which others already said, and when Tobes piped up beside her, Soph turned to watch him curiously. As soon as he said the word "cows," she was gone. Attempts at stifling her laughter with her hand were useless, but she kept her hand there and ended up bringing her other hand up to cover her entire face as Tobes went on, talking about cows and milk and parents and-- There was no end. She continued to snort with laughter even after he stopped talking, peeking through her fingers to see Javy's response to the whole thing. Good thing he wasn't Piers. |
Well talk about something Dante had absolutely no experience in. Which was many things, but who was counting. All he knew is that babies were annoying and that was it. "Food" You do need food to be healthy. So yeah, there is that. |
SPOILER!!: Responses to answers From the show of hands it seemed to be the general conscensious that those with that amount of experience would have no problems transferring that with creatures. Professor Thompson was quite approving of them all, even those without the experience. They were here to learn something after all. “Right. Just as it is important to showcase that amount of love and care with newborn human infants, it is the same with all creatures.” Continuing, “Most magical creatures tend to not live very long without having a parental figure to supply the appropriate nutrients. So today we're going to stop that today with helping care for baby Griffins.” Cue the Professor finally turning to slide open the door of the horse-like pen where many little versions of them hawked and squawked around. Their front to the top of their head resembling an eagle with the back to the lower end and tail of a lion. "Gather around here," After gesturing everyone to follow him inside they could see quite a number of them roaming around the woodchip flooring inside. "They are orphaned, but luckily old enough to not be as reliable for Griffin milk, so they will survive in captivity." So what did this mean? "Before we feed them, I'd like you all to get to picking one or even better, letting one choose you as you sit." Which the Professor then chose to sit down. "They'll try to nip or claw you when they show an interest, but not to worry, they aren't sharp enough to cause any sort of damage just yet." ---- OOC: Just as Professor Thompson said, either choose one or let them come to you while you sit. Feel free to name them as this should only take two labeled posts minimum. Lesson will continue on from here tomorrow. ^_^ |
Post 1 She got a point? That made Zhenya smile, glad her answer was welcomed. Zhenya listened to the rest of the suggestions, nodding as they spoke, because infants, and creatures, needed all of those things. They really were like babies, which is probably why the muggles in the apartment block always babied their cats. Zhenya treated her cat like an adult, because it was so old, but perhaps if she had a kitten she would treat it like a baby. Her cat got grumpy if Zhenya tried to care too much. It just wanted to be left alone most of the time. But today, they wouldn't be caring for cats, they would be caring for baby Griffins. Aww. They were kind of cute, though Zhenya still didn't particularly want to go close to them. Zhenya gathered closer to listen to further instructions, walking closer to the door and looking at the Griffins. She didn't want to go and grab one, what if it didn't like her? The poor things were orphaned, she didn't want to make them feel like she was removing them from friends and possibly siblings. So, Zhenya followed Professor Thompson's lead and sat down. They were moving around, and Zhenya looked at one close to her, who, she though, looked up at her. |
Post #1 Beverly had absolutely no experience with infants. The first thought that popped into her head when she thought of them was: annoying. They cried, soiled themselves and repeated the process. It was the lack of exposure to infants, she thought, it was also for other reasons that caused her forehead to wrinkle. Said forehead wrinkle disappeared as professor Thompson explained what they were going to be doing. Baby Griffins. They were going to work with ACTUAL baby Griffins. Baby creatures she could do, human babies...pass those to someone else. Gathering what the professor was saying, Beverly mimicked what he did, sitting down with her legs crossed. They were just so adorable Beverly could pick them up and snuggle them for ages. Thing was, she didn't snuggle in public. And she was sure that wasn't what Thompson wanted them to do. Instead, she sat there and watched the baby Griffins, occasionally petting the ones that got near. She was letting them choose her, so far it seemed they were playing around. |
Post 1 Adi grinned at Henric. "I always wear it along with this badge, Henny.'' He pointed to his Prefect one. And this was an important time not to forget to wear it, yes? His eyes flashed in the direction of his ex bestie, a smirk on his lips. "We should! If you aren't off chasing dragons.'' He did know all about Henric's plans for his future. .................... Eeeeep! Griffins! How positively AWESOMEEE! Momentarily forgetting about his MU badge, Adi leaned forward in anticipation to see the little creatures. Just lookit them! So cute that they melted the Puffer's heart. Hehe. HE WANTED ONE FOR KEEPS! :x3: Then they wouldn't be orphans no more. Okay, all that aside, they had to get to work. Adi yanked Henric down beside him, also tugging on AJ's hand. She join them on the ground, too, yes? He would be patiently waiting for a griffin! YUP! Did they have to sit still, anyway? Adi thought they should. It wouldn't be nice to be shifting around and then scaring off the poor things. But everyone know how difficult it was for hyper persons to sit still. Come on, Griffin! |
