It's bright and early Monday morning and time for the first Charms lesson of the term. As you enter, you notice the room is in it's typical set up with the desks and chairs lined in three neat rows to allow easy access should the Professor need to move about--though this is highly unlikely.
The windows, as usual are wide open letting in the natural light from the outdoors. Nothing like a little fresh air and a BRIGHT classroom to keep everyone awake after what was a large breakfast.
The Professor stands to the front, leaned against his desk waiting for the students to arrive. If he looks tired, he probably is...but that's nothing new, is it? Behind him the board remains blank for now except for these instructions:

Soooooooo.... recalling the wand movement, he had to perform a BRANDISH. He had to brandish his wand at the scrunched parchment. Easy peasy!
With a grin in place, Zeke focused on the scrunched ball of parchment. Up and UP it gooeeeesssss!!!... hopefully.
"A-lar-te As-cen-da-re," he tried with what he thought was a brandish. He couldn't quite tell, but for a second he thought his parchment ball bounced on the spot slightly. Or not. It could have been him too.
"A-lar-te As-cen-da-re."
"Alarte Ascendare," he continued to try, wand brandishing with better precision now. His eyes tracked the movement of his parchment easily, straight up and then straight down. Granted it wasn't very high, but it was above standing head height, so he would call this a success until he got even better at it.

He decided to give another try. Though he had a little problem about saying the incantation, he did enjoy charms class because of the practicing. Okay okay okay... Let's try this again. "Alarte Ascendare!" He said as he brandishing his wand to the crumpled parchment. it did go up but still didn't make him satisfied. Just a couple of feet up and then fell again to the ground. Well, at least he had made progress.
One more try? Yes please.
Now he hoped that this time it would make him satisfied. Concentration, Jackson... Brandishing his wand, he said the incantation loudly and clearly. "Alarte Ascendare!" Then the Korean boy watched the crumpled parchment went up higher than before. It went up above his head. Well, it higher than his head! "YEAH!" Out of nowhere he jumped and flew his fist to the air.

Angel know had to do the wand movement which was something like a Jab right, Angel started to practice jabbing the wand at the parchment, she thought it was going well until she looked at her notices ad sighed, why hadn't she done this earlier.
Angel had been doing the wrong wand movement, she had to brandish the wand at the paper, okay.... Angel did what she thought was a brandish movement at the paper, she just hoped that she was right and that when it all came together the crumbled up piece of parchment would move up into the air.
This one looked like she was burst any minute and the Professor found himself hoping she wouldn't until class was over. In case it was messy and required attention...because if class ended he could, with a clear conscience, palm her off to someone else. He did like the way she was thinking however. "Yes, it would do wonders with toy rockets. Muggles make them go pretty high but no doubt this spell could propel them even higher."
If that was the last of them, then it was time to address the class and set them to their task...but first, he would have to clear a few things up. "A few important things to remember about this spell are that it is not a levitation charm and will not keep things suspended midair, it shoots things into the sky at high speeds and you cannot control the object once you have shot it into the air. Typically the target shot flies straight upward so unless there's wind interference or interference of other sorts it will likely fall back to roughly the same place it started out."
Just something he really felt he should clarify way before they got into the main activity of the morning.
"Now that we've cleared that up, I need each of you to get a blank sheet of parchment and crumple it up." He had mentioned they would need parchment this class. No one said they would be writing on it all. Ahem.
"This is where we'll begin practising the spell. Remember, brandish the wand and speak clearly. A-lar-te As-cen-da-re." Not that he expected them to be speaking all exaggeratedly like THAT but it was emphasis for them to grasp the pronunciation. "If you have questions you may ask them, other than that, get practising until you're satisfied with how high the parchment flies." While he helped himself to yet another apple. Mmm.
Crunch.
You guys will need 3 posts of shooting the crumpled parchment into the air. How high the parchment flies is up to you just keep it realistic. You guys will have 36 hrs to get this completed before we move to the final activity <3
YESSS. SHE'D GOT A QUESTION RIGHT. Sorta. She smiled widely at the professor and swung her legs as she listened to everyone else. Magic was so cool. She was so lucky. She must have some serious good karma going on from some past life... Maybe in her last life she was an abandoned hamster or something and this was making up for it.
Whoa okay could someone teach her the levitation charm too? Like not right now but it sounded cool. She decided she'd get out her textbook and try it later, cause she wanted to be SO GOOD at magic. She nodded along to the professor as he explained what they had to do, then slid off her desk and grabbed a bit of parchment. At least a ball of parchment was light, so it'd be an easy thing to start off with, right? She crumpled it into a ball and placed it on the floor, then took out her wand.
Okay. First ever bit of magic coming your way, wand. Please help. "A-lar-te-as-cen-da-re..."BRANDISH. ......
.............
No.
Nothing.
Rowan frowned slightly and inspected her wand. Maybe there was some dust on it? Nope. What had she done wrong? Hm.
Well all she could do was try again. So she muttered the spell a few times under her breath to get it right, then tried again.

He'd done it once, so his confidence was sky high - just as his parchment soon would be.
Grin in place, Zeke brandished his wand at his parchment ball and repeated the incantation, "Alarte Ascendere!" Of course it worked, it worked better than it had before, or at least it would have had his FACE not gotten in the way.
FJSKILIGISHAJDNFI!!!!!!
Zeke blinked, and blinked again before raising a hand to hire forehead. It hadn't hurt... not really, and it was lucky for him that it missed his eyes, but jeeeeeeezzz he could feel the impact zone.
Quickly looking to his left, then his right, he checked to see if anybody had witnessed his blunder... he hoped NOT. Of course what he didn't realise was that it had left a red mark, indicating that he had in fact managed to hit himself.
"Alarte Ascendare," he tried again, this time making sure the parchment was not in line with his face. It shot up alright, almost to the ceiling before coming back down and landed on the desk, rebounding slightly as it did so.

That was enough of repeating this charm or so she hoped. Sliding herself forward off the desk she landed lightly on her feet on the floor. Stretching a little bit she picked up the balled up parchment and dropped it onto the floor a few inches from her feet. A small twist of her wrist had her wand resting lightly in her hand.
Time to give this a try.
Clearly her throat a little and brandishing her wand at the ball of parchment resting boringly on the floor she spoke clearly, "Alarte Ascendare" her focus never leaving the parchment. The parchment twitched slightly and lifted maybe an inch or so before dropping down.
Heaving a small sigh of disappointment Hady prepared herself to try again. At least she had gotten it to do something?
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Yoongi was satisfied that the Professor had liked his idea and he couldn’t stop grinning even as he grabbed a piece of parchment and crumpled it up as instructed. So they were going to do what he had said but instead of using a ball they would use a parchment for now.
It was common knowledge to practise an incantation before using it to try and prevent mistakes and Yoongi was pleased to see that some students did the exact same thing. So this was the same as in Charms school where he had learned that practising saying the incantation was half the work to make a charm work.
So he too had not grabbed his phoenix feather wand yet and instead said the incantation out loud for practise. “Alarte Ascendare” ….. “Alarte Ascendare” …yeah he got it. Time to move on.

Her first try was clearly a disappointment and she was more then intent on giving this another go. Cause really with her failure just wasn't an option nor was giving up. Giving the ball of parchment a nudge with her foot she set it into it's right place a few inches away from her just as before.
Brandishing her wand once more at the parchment she recited the charm firmly and with obvious intent, "Alarte Ascendare." The ball of parchment shot straight up into the air reaching about a foot or so from the ceiling before dropping right back down onto the same spot bouncing once and landing near her feet.
Awesome!
With a small smirk in place at her accomplishment Hady picked up the crumbled parchment and waited for the next set of instructions.
"I reckon I'd still give it a go, Professor," Toby said with a grin before the Cat Man moved on and all. He was imagining all kinds of outcome from attempting this spell on himself and all of them spelt FUN with a capital F-U-N. Quigley just needed to BELIEEEEEVE.
Okay, BUT, though, BUT... he needed to LEARN the spell, not fantasise about it. And they were about to do jUST THAT, so the timing of that thought was perfect.
"A-lar-te As-cen-da-re," Toby repeated, exactly as Quigley had spoken it, as he added a few final notes and the broken down pronunciation to his parchment. The notes parchment, that is, not the one he'd be flinging around. "A-lar-te As-cen-da-re. Alarte Ascendare."
It was fun to say, y'know. All DRAMATIC and stuff. The wand movement was fun to practice too, which is what Toby did after flicking it out if his holster. BRANDISH BRANDISH. Yeaahhhh.
Finding himself a spare, unused piece of parchment (a difficult task in and of itself; Toby's parchment was all completely out of order, he even had notes from third year in here somehow), he crumpled it up and got ready to try the spell. Okay. Alright alright alright. Let's doooo thissssss.

Oh yeah, her answer was right. AJ could so be resourceful. Her sisters were a couple of minutes younger than her so technically she could pull off her plan. The catman did her a solid and told her about an every better plan. Thanks man! It was appreciated. Truth be told, she really didn't need to zap a sister up there because AJ could climb the counters like a monkey. No cookie jar would be out of her reach.
They were going to be practicing on crumbled paper? Lame. Where was the fun in that? AJ wanted to practice on something more fun... like her neighbor. Oh well. Maybe once they got the hang of it the professor would let them move on to bigger and better things. She was just about to crumble up her own piece of parchment when Eden caught her attention. What? Umm.. okay. If it floated her boat. AJ would be sure to drop off her paper in the box. The fourth year did owe her life to the older Ravenclaw.
Now, back to what she was doing. AJ wadded up the paper nice and tight. "Alarte Ascendare." Brandishing of the wand happened. Nothing happened. Her ball of paper didn't even move an inch. Okay, maybe she should have practiced the incantation. Nah, that wouldn't have helped. Even when she tried that in other classes, it didn't make her spellwork any better. What was the point in wasting time?
'Alarte Ascendare.' Right. "Alarte Ascendare." Agatha said not too loud as she looked down at the crumpled ball of parchment. The thing did bounce on spot, but it was definitely not shot into the air.
"Alarte Ascendare." The ballerina said a little louder, brandishing her wand at the parchment. "Alarta Ascendare." What. Agatha pursed her lips and shook her head. "Alarte. Alarte Ascendare." When she least expected, the ball shot up above her head before falling down to the ground.
Huh. Huh! HAH. She had done it. HAH! The Slytherin smirked and flipped her hair as she took a look around the classroom to see who else had been able to do it. Some people, but not everyone. Never mind some of the people were first years, Agatha could see some of the older ones not being able to do it yet though they were probalby only still practising before actually trying, but that wasn't the point and that made her smug.

Alrightey! Snapping out of it! Adi was snapping out of his surprise. Feeling confident from his first try, Adi swooped and quickly grabbed his crumpled parchment. LET'S TRY THIS AGAIN! And this time, he would aim for better results!
The Hufflepuff held out the parchment and REALLLLLY focused on it. "Alarte Ascendare!" BRANDISH! LOOK AT THAT PARCHMENT FLY, YO!
Up! Up! UP! it went! A whole lot higher than the first attempt but then it lost momentum and started to fall back to planet earth. But hey, he had gotten better results, yeah?
A ship in harbor is safe — but that is not what ships are built for.
Hmm...it looked like a lot of the students have started practicing using the spell! Natalia didn't want to get behind.
The Lioness grabbed out her wand eagerly, then hesitated before performing the spell. So this charm will send the parchment ball into the air and come straight down? Wouldn't the ball hit Natalia if she didn't move out of the way? Well, she supposed that was why they were starting out with a light, paper ball.
Already, let's do this.
"Alarte Ascendare!" Natalia recited while flicking her wand.
Whoosh! The ball ascended two feet into the air before plummeting down. Natalia caught it with her hands and looked quite proud of herself. That wasn't bad for her first try at all!
"Alarte Ascendare!" This time, Natalia put a little bit more force in her voice. Instead of ascending straight up, the ball curved in a little parabola before falling back on the floor three feet from where Natalia stood.
Alright then. Control.
"Alarte Ascendare!" Again, the ball curved into a parabola and landed in the exact same spot it did before. What was she doing wrong? The charm worked perfectly the first time she tried it.

Things were going to happen this go round, AJ could just feel it in her bones. The lion crumpled up her paper a little bit more for good measure and stared at it. While she was looking at it, she imagined it soaring overhead. That was the spirit, right? Things happened when you concentrated. The fourth year was putting so much effort into her work. It would be totally unfair if things didn't go her way this time.
"Alarte Ascendare." She made sure to brandish her wand just right. Blink. Blink. The paper was still sitting in the same spot. No, no, no. This just wouldn't do.
"Alarte Ascendare!" Brandishing and super intense concentration happened. Her paper was in the air. It was soaring and.... it was back on the ground where it had started from. What happened? Did she lose her concentration?
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Adi caught the squished up parchment with his dominant hand before it crash landed on the floor. He was pleased with himself. He would be even more pleased if his girlfriend was having the same success as he was. The sixth year edged over to her.
"Nice try,'' he told her, leaning against one of the desks. "But you've got to be as awesome as I am to do it right so fast. Look at the boss have a go.'' Adi brandished his wand. "Alarte Ascendare!''
UUUUUUUUPPPPPPPPPPP shot the parchment and WOAAAH! This time the parchment shot EVEN higher AND faster than his previous two attempts. It had to be because of the combination of the light weight of the object as well as the utmost concentration Adi had put into the effort this time around.
Adi took his eyes away from the object for a second to grin at AJ. "That's how it's done.'' GRIN! "Your turn, AJ.'' And where was the parchment? Ah, yesh! There it was, coming right back at him.
Alarte Ascendare. Got it now. Leah repeated the incantation once more before holding her wand out. Time to put it together! She brandished her wand and said, "Alarte Ascenddd- ugh." Nooo, not this again. One more time. "Alarte Ascendare," she said, waving her wand excitedly. Nothing? Oookay.
She stared at the crumpled up piece of parchment. For a looong moment. When she realized that that was not going to do anything decided that she had cleared her mind and was ready to concentrate, she directed her wand once again at her target and brandished it, saying "Alarte Ascendare!"
The parchment shot up into the air, but even before the Hufflepuff noticed, it dropped back onto the table. Wow, that was like what? Ten inches? VERY impressive, Leah.
Eden was now properly saying the spell right, she was. Thanks to..Quiggles, of course. And so what
She cleared her throat and swiftly jabbed at the paper. "Alarte Ascendare!" she said it with a little more force this time, and the ball shot up into the air quickly...not too high, though, and as it pummeled back down, Eden could SEE Agatha...using like, three more pieces of parchment for her ball.
The Ravenclaw raised an eyebrow.
HAGATHA, PLEASE.
She wanted to set FIRE to Agatha's parchment, but she didn't, because she was in Quigley's class, and she didn't want to cause trouble in HIS class. So she just glared at her..."You're a really sucky person, you know that?"
And there it was. Her inability to keep her mouth shut persisted, but Eden was soon back to practicing the spell. "Alarte Ascendare..." she said, more clearly and pronounced than before. Her parchment shot up even HIGHER. HEHEHE. It reminded Eden of those things at fairs..where you hit the little pad with a hammer and the little ball SHOOTS up to ring the bell? It was mighty cool.

"Er... I... No," the Gryffindor hung his head in defeat YET AGAIN, as Professor Q went on to address the other responses. Merlin. It felt like the harder he tried, the worse the blow. Even if Quigley hadn't even scowled, that felt even worse than when he DID scowl, but only 'cause Zander knew it was there, well in theory of course. Professor Q probably wore a permanent scowl when it came to Zander. Apparently. But this Gryffindor wasn't planning on giving up any time soon, okay? Try, try again. And fail, fail again. And get more death stares again and again. SIGH.
Unfortunately (or actually, fortunately maybe) there wasn't any more time to sit and complain about mistreatment, 'cause they were moving on with the activity now and Zander had almost missed it. Ahem. Ala-huh????
"A-lar-te." Okay that wasn't bad, was it? Yes it was. But he could do it. "AlARte. Alarte. Alarte. Alarte. Al-got-it."
The second bit though. This was the confusing part. Except it kind of sounded like the word accend so that'd make it a ton easier to remember. SEE Zander Adair making them connections. So Ravenclaw. "As-cen-da-re. As-CEN-da-re. As-cen-DA-re." Where did the accent go exactly? Or was there an accent? Ahem. "Ascendare." He had this doooown.
"A-lar-te As-cen-da-re."
There. Easy peasy. Zander Adair over and out.

With her wand safely in her grasp again Norah crawled out from under the desk and over to her own before straightening up and patting her hair down. Apparently it was a bad day not to have brushed. Whoopsies.
Her other piece of crumpled parchment was still there because APPARENTLY it didn't want to go shooting up yet, so she faced that one as she tried to concentrate on the incantation. Holding the wand tightly? Check. Incantation? Check. Celebratory chocolate frogs in her bag for after class if she got it right? Check check check AND check. "Alarte Ascendare" The Hufflepuff brandished her wand determinedly and waited for the paper to shoot all the way to Mars and back again. Was Mars in the up direction? 'Cause if you looked at a solar system Mars was on the side but the sky looked up from Earth, everybody knew that. Huh. She'd have to ask Professor Flamsteed. Ahem. Charms. Riiiiiight.
The ball MOVED. It only moved about a foot off the table but it did move so there. Smiling, Norah picked up the parchment ball and booped it with her nose because it was doing a very good job so far, then replaced it on the desk. "Alarte Ascendare" BRANDISHBRANDISH. The ball shot a teeny tiny bit higher this time, unless it was just a trick of the light but you know WHAT it did go up and not to the side and she still had her wand so really it was all good. Better than good. It was GREAT.
Leah picked up her wand once more to practice, but not before she had made sure that her crumpled parchment was FIRMLY crumpled. Who knows if that might affect her spell? She cleared her throat and did the cool wand movement. "ALARte AScendare." Just to be extra clear. The ball of parchment jumped up again, this time managing to go over a foot at the least.
Not bad, but it was not good enough.
"Please work... Alarte Ascendare!" She imagined the parchment shooting up into the air like a Quaffle does at the beginning of a Quidditch match. At the brandish of her wand, it did shoot up, and this time she had to lift her head just a tiny bit to look how high it went. This would count as a success, yeah?
Henric realised now that he didn't quite get the proper wand movement after watching his fellow classmates practiced.Professor Quigley specifically told them to brandish their wands but what he did was just simply swish at it, not directing any sort of emotions to it. Henric continued reciting the spell countless of times in his head but still his pronounciation was still a little off.
Determined not to be lagged behind, he stood up properly this time and tried to imagine the crumpled parchment was already shot high up towards the ceiling. That was his main goal! Alright, Henric...get this over with...
"Alarte Ascendare!"he exclaimed and aimed his wand towards his target.Yes! His crumpled parchment actually shot a little up before falling back onto the floor again. Achievement Unlock x1000 points victory to him! Heheh...he really should stop playing with muggle games....alright...
Once he thought his tongue had gotten a hold at the pronunciation of the spell, Noel took his wand out of it's holster and started practicing the wand movement.
What had the professor said? Ah yes, brandish. Noel looked around to see how the other kids were doing it. There were apparently a looot of different versions of it. Noel concentrated on the kids who had gotten it right and tried again.
Wrist movement was always hard to get right so he had to be careful. Because instead of getting the parchment in the air, he could be setting it on fire. Everything was in the details, oh yes.
Nevertheless ...once he thought he was doing it right, he took a parchment off his desk and crumpled it up.
Dropping it by his feet, Noel did the spell.

Take out a sheet of parchment JUST to crumple it up? Well that was RUDE. To the parchment, of course. Not to the person crumpling... Unless they really had a thing for uncrumpled parchment? Ahem. Either way, Zander wanted to say something, UNTIL Eden McGee said it first! SEE, this is exactly why Zander thought she was so grand. Eden had the best ideas and she was always looking out for them animals and also paper. Such a good person. 10 out of 10 approve.
ANYWAYS.
Although Zander would OBVIOUSLy be using the recycling box, he still didn't want to use a piece of new parchment just to crumple it up. Especially since parchment didn't just grow on tress, people!! Or well, uh. Okay it did. BUT STILL. Zander only had a limited amount. So instead of taking out a brand new sheet, he opted for and old piece of paper he had used to write half of his Runes homework on once. Of course he never even finished or turned it in because ain't nobody got time for that. Also Runes is hard.
With used parchment in hand, Zander began balling it up into a little crumpled mountain of paper. Heh. This was the PERFECT crumple. It'd work absolutely perfectly. Now um, what was the incantation again because it was surely something complicated and Zander didn't quite remember it.

It didn't work on the first go of course. The parchment moved light though so that was a good sign. It didn't lift OFF the ground but .... weezed kinda.
Pointing at the crumpled parchment, Noel cleared his throat and spoke as clearly as possible: "Alarte Ascendare!" and did the BRANDISH wand movement.
... It shot up till his knees and down again.
So this was KIND OF frustrating but he tried again while focusing on elevators and quaffles going up and just things shooting up in general this time.
"Alarte Ascendare!" he repeated firmly and the parchment SHOT UP in the air .. waaaaay above his head. YESSS.

SPOILER!!: Adi
The second go round wasn't a total success, BUT she had managed to make her paper become airborne so that was something. That gave her confidence a tiny boost... maybe even enough to get the job done better this time.
Her wand was pointed at the wad of paper. "Al--" Excuse you...
"Boss... who?" AJ looked around the room to see who he could be talking about because surely he wasn't referring to himself. "The only boss I see around here is me." And to think his glasses were supposed to improve his vision. Of course she was just joking back with him.
The lion watched the hufflepuff give it a go, and she couldn't even say anything bad about his attempt because it was perfect. "I see that you waited until you had the spell mastered until you came over here to show off." Hehe. She had to give the boyfriend a hard time.
"I can do better than that." AJ was sounding a lot more confident than she was feeling because she had been down this road before. If anything was going to get her to perform better it would be Adi egging her on. This just might work out in her favor.
"Alarte Ascendare," she cried while doing the proper wand movements. Her parchment shot up into the air, and this time it didn't fall back down before it really got some air. "AHA!" Because neener, neener sounded a bit lame. Although, she was not above it. Before long her parchment was hitting the ground where it had started. Boom!
