| | Charms Lesson 1 - Going Up! _____________________________ It's bright and early Monday morning and time for the first Charms lesson of the term. As you enter, you notice the room is in it's typical set up with the desks and chairs lined in three neat rows to allow easy access should the Professor need to move about--though this is highly unlikely.
The windows, as usual are wide open letting in the natural light from the outdoors. Nothing like a little fresh air and a BRIGHT classroom to keep everyone awake after what was a large breakfast.
The Professor stands to the front, leaned against his desk waiting for the students to arrive. If he looks tired, he probably is...but that's nothing new, is it? Behind him the board remains blank for now except for these instructions: Quote:

Echo felt like she was ready to give it a shot after saying the spell over and over in her head and out loud. Looking down at her crumpled up paper she eyeballed it and spoke to it in her head "you better fly up in the air now" she really hoped that it would work.
Picking up her wand she pointed at it and spoke the words [b]" "Al-art-e A-scen-dire" but she knew she had failed because the paper didn't go anywhere and she didnt feel comfortable with her pronunciation on that time around. oh well more practicing, and maybe it was like her last class where she kind of had to pay real attention to what she was doing and concentrate.

Recycling? Pfffft. Not really Heather's style, but okay.
She balled up a spare piece of paper and bounced it in her palm a few times. Nice. Now to practice the spell. "Alarte Ascendare." Yeah, she wasn't one of those foolish, pathetic, silly girls that were saying it wrong just to get Professor Quigley's attention. Nope, not here. "Alarte Ascendare." And there it was again. Perfect. Now she was ready to practice on the paper.

Time to try it again. He kind of failed the first three times casting the spell. Maybe it was because his heart wasn't into it. He cleared his head of all distraction and then held his wand out and said, "Alarte Ascendare!" and then he did a brandishing of the wand and then he saw his paper fly in the air. NOW that is what he was talking about. Victory for Lecium right there. He grinned in glee and wondered if he could do it again. I mean why not. He began to crumble up another piece of paper and then pointed his wand at the wad of paper. "Alarte Ascendare!" and the paper flew up in the air yet again. Woohooo! He was getting the hang of it now.

No more misses nice girl over here. She was going to get that piece of paper to shoot into the air no matter how hard she had to try.
Slowly taking her wand she pointed it at her paper, her grip tightened and she starred at it trying to focus. "Al-art-e A-scen-dare" "Alarte Ascendare" she said while before she could react to it working the ball of paper was up in the air and came right back down.
Giggling she thought that the Professor was totally right, this wouldn't be a good tool to save someone, now that she knew what it could actually do. Getting up from her chair she went over to pick up her paper and put it in the blue bin, which another loud girl and hold everyone to put theirs in. So she did and she was happy that she was able to finish the task.

And taking aim......."Alarte Ascendare."
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Not even a twitch. Grr. "Alarte Ascendare." A small twitch this time. "Alarte Ascendare." Bigger twitch. "Alarte Ascendare." Small hop.
This was getting irritating. Seriously. Work already!

Zhenya was enjoying the class so far. Climbing, crawling, sitting on tables, hearing some people's plans of how they would send things up into the sky. Fun and entertaining!
She quickly jotted down the spell; A-lar-te As-cen-da-re, and, lucky to have brought a few extra pieces, scrunched one up into a ball, just as she caught the tail end of a conversation between Quigley and Eden. She had a smile, having not even thought about recycling the parchment, but thought it was a good idea. Then she openly had a chuckle when Eden made a big announcement to the class. Zhenya nodded, telling herself to recycle her parchment at the end of class. Done.
But for now she had to concentrate. Having never performed the spell, she didn't know how well or quickly it would work. She set the parchment on the ground, assuming this was where they shall start from, and got her wand from her robes. On second thought, she put it back. Practice the spell first, Zhenya. "A-lar-te As-cen-da-re. A-lar-te As-cen-da-re. A-lar-te As-cen-da-re," she said to herself a few times over until it started to sound natural to her. She pulled her wand out and practiced the movement; brandishing. Right, now to put the two together?
"A-lar-te As-cen-da-re," she said, brandishing her wand at her ball of parchment. It jumped feebly about knee height and plopped back down to the ground. Oh.

| Post 1 Admiratrice des Maraudeurs | C-Rizzle | THE Best Snuggler …whowhahuh? Marigold looked up from her notes, which she had been taking on the parchment she thought they needed, and looked around. Crumple this sheet up? Okay…though that would make it hard to read the spell. Nevertheless, Marigold did as she was told. She crumpled her notes up and took out her wand. After a quick practice of the wand movement, she leaned her head veeery close to her crumpled parchment and repeated the wand movement while trying to read what she wrote. "Alet-ey Ascanius?"
…McAlistor, that does NOT even LOOK like Ascanius's name. Get your head out of fangirling. |

Finally! The crumpled piece of paper shot up to about the height of her navel before crashing back down. Sure, it would've been cooler if it had hit the ceiling or something, but at least the spell was working. Plus, it wasn't as if she couldn't try for the next few minutes. "Alarte Ascendare." Nose height this time. "Alarte Ascendare." A little above her head.....

Hogwarts RPG Name: Norah Kittredge Seventh Year | Post 1 Lil' gooz | Sarangel | Junior Dweeb Norah beamed at Professor Quigley's praise--and it was praise, okay--even though she'd gotten a bit of it wrong. A trampoline sounded FUN. Best way to practice the spell, if you asked her. And if you could only shoot stuff straight up then there really wasn't any good reasons besides using it on people as a game, or rather any good reasons that could be any fun. Fun reasons counted the most.
Instead of thinking about what a waste of parchment this was when they could be practicing on themselves, she concentrated on the wonderful crinkly sound the parchment made as she crumpled it up. Crinkle crinkle crinkle. Now, what was the incantation again? Alarte Ascendare Alarte Ascendare AlarteAscendareAlarteAscendareAlarteAscendare. It even sounded like a mouthful in her head. THIS would be interesting. She brandished her wand at the parchment and said, "Alarte Ascendare" in her clearest voice. Aaaaaand nothing happened. Thank you, parchment. Thank you very much.
Norah wiped her wand on her robes and set herself up again because it was GOING to work. She brandished her wand more dramatically this time, so dramatically that by the time she got to "Alar--" it had flown from her grasp and landed......somewhere. The fourth year got to her knees to retrieve it, taking a moment to be invisible and hide under the desk because NOBODY saw that, right? Right.

Brian was still a little skeptical of this spell. If all it did was shoot things off into the air and not really keep them there, and shooting them so fast that whatever it was probably wouldn't be able to achieve whatever purpose it was being shot up for, what was the bloody use of the spell? Did the weird guy who invented it try it just for the heck of it? Or as an alternative levitating charm and fail but decide to market it because he'd messed up? That was how Post-Its came about. He was sure of it.
Whatever it was, he still had to pass this class. So he picked up a sheet of parchment that he'd not doodled on out of boredom yet and crumpled it. He definitely looked falsely enthusiastic. YUP. If there was one thing Brian was good at doing, it was looking like he was enjoying himself when he was really not. Where was Timmy? They could probably make a game out of it or something.
Oh well. Might as well practice in the meantime, right? The incantation was Alarte Ascendare. "Alarte Ascendera." No, wait. That wasn't it. "A-lar-te As-cen-dare." MUCH BETTER. "Alarte Ascendare." For such a pointless spell, it sure had a difficult incantation.

Right, to try again. She took a deep breath, rolled her shoulders then rolled her head. Focus. "A-lar-te As-cen-da-re," she said, brandishing her wand at her ball of parchment on the floor. Again, it came up to knee height. Oh come ooooon!
She sighed, frustratedly, then tried again, and again and again. Then sighed some more. Honestly, she needed it to go through the roof! Well, not through it. She didn't want the wrath of Quigley upon her. But at least to touch the roof.
"A-lar-te As-cen-da-re," she said again, brandishing her wand a little more fiercely this time. No feeble brandishing. Brandishing with strength. And hallelujah, it came up! Well, at least to hip height this time, but it was an improvement.

| Post 1 ~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Adi grinned broadly. How awesome of Quigley to think positively of his creative answer. Honestly, he had literally just thought of that idea about the game/feeding combination and already he was thinking VERY seriously of doing it. In the near future of course... when he had a TON of griffs.
The Puffer almost got lost in a daydream about that until he came around just in time for AJ's answer... and Professor Feline's response. LOL! Leave it to AJ to be so darn creative. Annnnd he was having visions of Angel and Abby crashing into the ceiling. Heh.
Anywho! Crumpled parchment? YEAH! Adi could get that. The Puffer got a blank piece and squished it up in his left hand. "Alarte Ascendare, Alarte Ascendare, Alarte Ascendare.'' As he was repeating the incantation, Adi was tossing the crumpled parchment from one hand to the other.
Satisfied that he had gotten a hang of the incantation, the Puffer got to his feet (because that was more comfortable), held the parchment with his right hand to use his other hand to brandish his wand. "Alarte Ascendare!" BRANDISH! Hehe. It was kind of weird... that wand movement. Usually it was a point, flick or something else. OHHHH, HIIIYO! The parchment shot up on the first try O_O This did not usually happen for Adi and he was too taken aback to he didn't really realise that the parchment surpassed his height for about two feet before tumbling to the floor.

| post 1 BOOMBAYAH! | #PuedoPorquePiensoQuePuedo | Certified Blank and Random Person | Raventastic When it comes to incantation, Jackson always found a little problem. Even since he was still in Kirin. It seemed like his tongue needed some adaptation or.. dunno. So he often spent his time in lessons by mumbling and practicing the incantation. Just like today. "So it's uh... A-lar-te As-cen-da-re." He mumbled. "Aler.. no. Alare... No no... A-lar-te Asc... Damn it." Wow, it was harder than he expected. Try it again. "Ale... Ugh. Come on, Jackson." He said to himself. "Alarte... Ascen.. dare? Alarte... Ascendare. Alarte Ascendare." Now it sounded better.

Hearing Kace ask her if she was alright, Lux nodded even though she wasn't completely better yet. "Just the thought of being launched into the air..." It was a terrifying thought and she appreciated his concern. He was a good friend to her even though she couldn't believe what the Aparecium wrote about them. Kace was like her brother and she was in a relationship with his best friend.
Enough about that gossip rag though.
THANK MERLIN they wouldn't be performing the spell on anything besides paper - at least for the moment. Lux could do that. No harm could come to a bit of paper. With a smile, she removed a piece of blank parchment from her bag and crumpled it up. Eden's concern about recycling made her smile even more; her friend was such a kind soul.
Okay, time to start practicing! |

Zhenya cleared her throat. Again. This time, parchment ball, PLEASE cooperate. After all, the seventh year would be sitting exams in a few months. She needed to be able to do the curriculum she was being taught. She looked at her ball on the ground and firmly told it, mentally of course, to cooperate with her. She nodded once, rolled her shoulders and her neck again, and spoke. "A-lar-te As-cen-da-re," and brandished her wand at the ball.
ZOOM!
It flew up, ricocheted off the roof, and fell back down to her feet, then rolled away a few centimetres. She beamed at her parchment ball. GOOD BALL! Resisting the urge to do a little jig, she walked a bit closer to the ball at her feet.
"A-lar-te As-cen-da-re," she repeated again, following the correct wand movement, sending the ball up and down again. Good thing it wasn't a cannon. Imagine the damage! Note to self: when practicing this spell out of the class, use parchment ball, and not bludger.

| Post 1 Melly Bean | aussiegirl | a Supernatural freak Well sure, the Professor had a point there. Everything that goes up must come down, but if you managed to shoot whatever you trying to get rid of high enough then it would give one time to get away. He had experience with these things.
Anywhoo time to get on with the activity. Michael crumpled up a piece of parchment and placed it onto his desk before taking out his wand. He practised saying the incantation a couple of times to make sure that he had the pronunciation right.
When he felt confident enough, he brandished his wand at the parchment and said in a clear and confident voice. "Alarte Ascendare." The parchment ball shot about six feet into the air. Not bad for his first effort.
And just as he was about to give it a second go, he heard a familiar voice trying to say the incantation and he turned to look at her with a grin on his face. Quote:

| #1 Arts TRANSPONSTER! Agatha wasn't really up to practising the spell, but seeing Eden yelling things across the classroom made her want to hit the girl, so onto spell practising. Maybe she could try and aim to the Ravenclaw's head. "Alarte Ascendarae. Ascendare..." She said after listening intently to the professor saying it again. She ripped a piece off the parchment in front of her and crumpled it into a firm ball that fit perfectly in her hand, casually eyeing Eden from the corner of her eyes.

| Post 1 *sappysapper* MAJNOO, YO! Noel hated the struggle that came with learning to pronounce a incantation. It was annoying and just sad.
.... and this one was particularly hard, he realized.
Because A L A - what now?
It didn't help that EVERYONE was trying to pronounce it at the same time. It only confused him more.
Alerte?
No no, it was AlARte. "Alarte. Alarte. Alarte." The fifteen year old repeated it as many times as possible trying to block other voices around him and then tried to pronounce the next part of the incantation. "As-cen-da-re"
Ascendare. Ascendare. Ascendare.
TOGETHER NOW. "Alarte Ascendare" and repeat.

| post 1 Shoe!Girl │ Rebel Ravie │ Confundus Queen │ RP Addict People were stupid if they really thought that the professor would let them launch each other into the air. At least, Brooklyn wasn’t letting anyone get anywhere close to launching her into the air. She’d rather hex them than let them do that. However, parchment was okay. It wasn’t as if she had to use her notes, had she really taken any besides scribbling down the incantation and the wand movement on a sheet of parchment, lying next to her as she’d been perched on her desk. Instead, she’d taken the time to slide a completely blank piece out of her bag, ignoring the Ravenclaw’s bleating about recycling. One piece of parchment wasn’t going to hurt anything. Although, if the ‘claw kept at it she might find a ball or two launched at her head.
For now, though, the tiny redhead merely crumpled the sheet and set it on the opposite side of her from her notes. First, practice, then actually trying the spell. And she wouldn’t want to accidentally launch her notes into the air. Taking her wand out, she brandished it a few times, thinking that was stupid too. Her wand wasn’t a sword. But anyway, that practice was done. Now for the incantation.
“A-lar-te As-cen-da-re,” she sounded out quietly. “Alarte Ascendare.” That sounded right. It sounded like how the professor had said it anyhow, even down to the accent sort of. The longer she lived here the less she felt like she sounded like an American.

He muttered to himself since he got the incantation wrong. Come on, Hwang. You'd practiced the incantation multiple times. Sighing, he brandished his wand and tried the spell once again. Focus and concentration, Hwang Seunghyun. "Alarte.. Ascendare! Alarte Ascendare!" Still nothing happened. "Alarte Ascendare!" He said once again and brandished his wand. She was glad to learn the difference between the levitation charm and this one. It always confused her when she studied two similar spells because she tended to freak out on which one to use at desperate times. Leah wrote down some more notes onto her journal before they moved to the activity.
Quite happily, she ripped an empty page out of her journal and crumpled it up. This felt goood, it was like rebellion against writing. Or something like that. Oh wait, she had to practice the incantation first. "A-lar-te As-cen-da-re," she said slowly. "A-lar-te As-cen-da-re. Alarte Ascendrr- Ascendare. Alarte Ascendare." It was strange how she could say it syllable-by-syllable but found it challenging when she put it together.
More practice!

| #2 - If Agatha could read Brooklyn's thoughts she'd approve of them so much xD Arts TRANSPONSTER! When she was done getting her ball of parchment ready, Agatha eyed it, then looked back at Eden. The Ravenclaw was worried about wasting all of that parchment, wasn't she? Aww, how ridiculous of her.
After considering things, the sixth year grabbed the rest of the parchment that was in front of her and made a bigger ball, wasting ALL of the parchment. Could Eden see this? Could she? Agatha hoped so.
Placing the item down, Agatha brandished her wand a few times while pointing at the piece of parchment, which flipped over at one point without Agatha saying anything. Oh. Well, at least it didn't catch fire.
...
What was the incantation again?

| #1 ½ EagleBrain ♥ Creeperdoodle ♥ Raven Dor ♥ Berry ♥ ½ Team House Elf HE DIDN'T KNOW?... That wasn't a NO. Meaning, there were possibilities. And the whole oxygen thing could be worked around, couldn't it? With magic? "Sir, could you use a bubblehead charm to breathe in space?" It was a legit question, even if it was based on fantasy. He liked to think he was a problem solver, yep.
..
BUT! LEARNING CHARMS TIME!
He was excited to learn this one, he could see it having numerous uses and benefits, out and about. After scribbling down some notes on his parchment, he took another one and scrunched it into a ball as instructed.
FUN!
Reading first, Zeke recited the incantation in his head. A-lar-te As-cen-da-re. And then he gave it a go out loud, "A-lar-ta As-cen-da-re." Was that right? He tried again, "A-lar-te As-cen-da-re." And again... and again...
There was only one real way to practice though, wand at the ready!!!!......

| post 2: I thought the same thing, Juliana. Or at least, similar. LOL Shoe!Girl │ Rebel Ravie │ Confundus Queen │ RP Addict Practice done, Brooklyn had looked around the room once just to see if anyone else was doing anything stupid. Or to get the professor’s attention, as if Professor Quigley actually would be okay with people intentionally acting stupid. She doubted that, and that was why she didn’t try it. She didn’t act stupid anyhow. It wasn’t possible for her to. Although she’d thought for a moment and knocked her ball of parchment onto the floor below her feet. That way she wouldn’t have to pretzel herself just to cast the spell, even if it meant pointing her wand down at the floor and keeping her dangling feet out of the way.
Actually, a better idea would be to remove the possibility, and she pulled her feet up to cross them on top of the desk, half-hidden by her school robes. Now she could try to cast the spell without risking hitting herself, and she brandished her wand at the unassuming ball of parchment on the floor. “Alarte Ascendare,” she said clearly, focusing her gaze on said ball and willing it to move upward. It did, but not even to the height of the top of her desk, where she was sitting, before it fell to the ground gain. Stupid parchment, she thought, eyeing it darkly. It was supposed to follow her orders.

Angel was going to enjoy this, she could just tell, she was going to get some paper and crumble it up, could she aim for her sisters heads? Angel thought it would be funny seeing the looks on their faces but then she decided against it because well she didn't want to lose any points.
Angel grabbed a piece of paper and started to crumble it up... she crumbled it up the best she could. She wondered if it would work if it was folded up but she decided that she could ask the Professor that question later, now she had to practice the spell.
"A-lar-te As-den-ya-re!!" Angel tried to say the incantation, but she had a funny feeling it didn't sound right. "A-lat-er As-den-da-re!" Angel was sure that didn't sound right. Angel concentrated on the incantation. "A-lar-te As-cen-da-re." Angel smiled as she realised that sounded better.
