One of the first things you experience as you enter the classroom - something really not uncommon these days given the state of the castle - is the skin crawling sensation of sticky silk latching on to you, your clothing, face, and hair. Batting away the webs, you may notice a lint roller or two suspended in the air from these unwanted ‘decorations’ of the classroom. No doubt left there after getting tangled up so much while Professor Flamsteed tried to clean up the place before class that evening.
The Astronomy classroom itself is arranged in the usual semi circle of desks facing the empty blackboard. A large yellow box with a bold black question mark levitates in the front of the room in clear sight. Professor Flamsteed can be seen circling it with his fingers stroking at his invisible beard as he ‘mmhmms’. Every now and then you will see him walk over to the box and peek inside a couple times, each time looking more curious and surprised than the last.
Did you remember to use the lint roller on the small table outside of the classroom? It was there next to, unbeknownst to the professor, altered sign that now reads, "Not to be used as a brush for your hair" and has the signature of a former student in the bottom right corner.
So come on in and have a seat, and possibly wipe off your seat before doing so unless you fancy a lacey bum thanks to the webs all over. Class will begin soon.
⌦Lesson Progression
▸ question 1 :: what is in the box?
▸ question 2 :: how have these objects been improved by the study and exploration of space?
▸ question 3 :: Do we only send people up in space in hopes of generating useful by-products of the research conducted in space?
▸ question 4 :: How is the box like outer space?
▸ question 5 :: What does the word 'potential' mean to you?
▸ CONTENTS OF THE BOX REVEALED!
OOC: This is NOT your character’s last Astronomy class for the term but will be the last one properly RP’d.
Class will officially begin in approximately 14 hours from the time of this post. CLASS HAS OFFICIALLY STARTED! Please to not post your character arriving late unless you are willing to accept the IC consequences.

So his answer about the three items met the approval of Professor Flamsteed, that was good. At least he knew he was thinking in the right direction. Benny continued taking notes on all that was being said, both by the man and the other approved comments by his fellow classmates. But then there was the next question, one that inquired on why they thought space exploration was done in the first place. Besides the useful improvements made by it by the demonstration.
Benny definitely agreed with what was being said all around. It was a way to explore further than what was previously done. And the continued curiousity as to what was out there in the darkness that was what space looked to the naked eye. He may have supplied something else but his thoughts couldn't come up with anything nto to mention Flamsteed was suddenly standing upon Tobias' desk.
Yeah...that's the signal for something big.
The professor didn't disappoint, giving a long speech that made you think that ended with a remark posted on the board. Curiosity...need to know...worked together or was the same in his book. "Because professors tend to hide interesting stuff in boxes to get us all raring to find out what was inside for the lesson."

Janelle listened to her classmates give their opinions. Then she paid close attention to Professor Flamsteed as he commented on their answers. His next question required some thought on Janelle's part. Finally she raised her hand and said what was on her mind.
"I think there are two kinds of people, those that are curious about the unknown and those that are afraid of the unknown. Sometimes it may be a combination of the two. Those who are curious will not rest until they get answers.......because they "need to know" things. Your box is like outer space to the curious people because they know something is there, but they don't know what it is. Not knowing drives curious people crazy. They cannot, will not rest until they have answers."

As her classmates shared their opinions, Lux made a note of them. You could never know if and when this stuff would become useful.
It was the box, however, that had her attention more than anything.
FINALLY. She had been waiting for him to start talking about it, and maybe the contents would be revealed soon. Lux was very curious about everything involving that box, from it's colour to what was inside. She couldn't help being curious about things, though she wouldn't go looking for that swimming pool if there was a creature inside. As much as she wanted to get in touch with her Gryffindor side, that was a bit much.
As they were bombarded with questions, she raised her hand to answer. "I think it's a part of human nature to be curious about the unknown. We want to know what's out there and explore it. I'm guessing that's how the box is like outer space!"

Whhhaaa! She got three points. AJ wanted to get up and dance, but she didn't. Well, not in her physical form. She was breaking it down in her head right now, and as a result had a goofy grin on her face. Thanks, professor. The lion perked up a bit more and ignored her sister's head shaking. It was a slip of the tongue obviously. No need to worry about that now because they were getting closer and closer to finding out what was in that box. Yeah?
Wait. Hold back the unicorns...
"Is there really a swimming pool with dragons in it?" Because weird things happened at Hogwarts, and that wouldn't be at all surprising to her if there was a dragon lazy river somewhere in this castle.
Anyways, she was getting distracted, and everybody knew what that did for her concentration.
"For me, once you tell me no or that I can't, it only makes me want it that much more. I see it as a challenge. I think the same can be said for your box or for space as well. Oh, we can't benefit from space searching. Pfffft. I will fly out on my handy dandy rocket and find an alien and bring him back. How about that space nay sayers?" Well, that got a little intense, but Airey liked it, yeah? She just hoped she didn't start an astro rant.

Soooort of trying to get Professor Flamsteed to like her enough to not hate her.
So. Seriously. Don't worry, Zander.
Stepping closer, Maggie took hold of the strands of hair that were attached to the lint roller (again, SERIOUSLY???). And then she just quickly moved her wand without prior warning and said, "Diffindo." It was easier that way. Ah yes and there it was. The lint roller. And Zander's hair. "You should get a haircut, you know." Like seriously. That just looked weird.
The girls wouldn't like it, just saying.
This time she did give Zander a pat on the head before moving away and presenting him with her trophy. Or you know, the lint roller. "There you go, Professor." There was a lot of smiling going on to, just FYI. She was SUCH a nice person, did he know? Yes? He better start believing that. She had PROOF now, see?

"Stellar spellwork, Miss Traulton. Take 5 points for it AND your ability to follow directions." UNLIKE SOME PEOPLE! First Miss Valentine earlier in the term with spinning in place and making herself sick enough to throw up in his general direction...and now Mr. Adair using it to brush his hair.
Pity the man was so worked up over the sight of it all that he was stupidly ignoring the warning signs from the prefect's classmates.
"As for you, Mr. Adair. 5 points from Gryffindor for failing to follow instructions and 5 points for being a good sport and allowing yourself a haircut in the middle of class."
It wasn't all THAT bad. Maybe. Just wear a cap and all would be fine.
Just not in his classroom, thank you very much.
Oh sweet Merlin. What was taking her so long!? Okay. Not so long because in reality only seconds had been passing by. BUT STILL. It felt like forever. Like he was waiting for something really bad to happen because basically HE WAS. Like he sort of established earlier, Maggie was E-V-I-L. That spells 'a threat to society entrapped in a tween body'. Well it almost spells that. There are a few extra letters involved, but you know... Details.
So once Maggie did the deed, Zander couldn't help but freak out just a little. HIS HAIR. It was all gone wasn't it!? WHAT HAD SHE DONE!? Actually, what had she done... Did anyone have a mirror with them?
The Prefect slowly lifted his hands to his hair, searching for a bald spot. He was a bit reluctant in doing so. Ahem. But... All his hair was there. No bald spot. What? Also, he'd let Maggie's comment slide because apparently she didn't get rid of all his hair. "Thanks," what a surprising turn of events, huh?
He didn't really realize how uneven his hair must look because HEY he still had hair and at the moment that seemed to be all that mattered. Well it seemed to be all that mattered until Flammy took away five points.
Just to give him five back?
What even? Lost five and gained five. That was zero.... Why do anything with points in the first place? Felt completely unnecessary and--WAIT A MINUTE. "But Professor! I was following directions! I just did what the sign said!" Ahem. Not trying to give you sass or anything, sir. He just couldn't sit here and take this UNFAIR punishment. The one time he did something right and he was still wrong. And yes he was absolutely sure that he had read the sign right. WHY DIDN'T ANYONE BELIEVE HIM????
He didn't even cry werewolf or anything. 'Cause that would've been more relevant to the last lesson."

Merlin. Flamsteed and his theoretical stuff. Always a reason for whatever he was doing.
He may just be a madman with a box, but there was always a reason.
Except for when he took points away for not following instructions that Zander had CLEARLY followed, that was just mad. There was no reason. Or at least not a real one. Ahem. #Stillbitter. Anyways, he couldn't keep not answering the questions because this was getting kind of ridiculous. Zander was like a good half an hour behind the entire rest of the class. So he was gonna contribute now, thanks. "Well your box is a mystery and Outerspace is kind of a mystery.... And also because Professors always hide the most interesting stuff in boxes and space is pretty interesting too."
And also that curiosity thing too. Probably

... Soooooooo... Toby was going to take this to mean that 1. he had given a Good Answer and 2. there was not a field trip to space in the box.
As usualy, recognised the signs of desk leaping from Airey in the few seconds before it happened, and very quickly moved his notes and stuff out of the way, breaking into a huge grin. This was, like, the epitome of praise. Toby always felt very accomplished when he earned a desk leap from Airey, and... WOAH. FIVE points? BRUH. NICE.
Toby was proud of himself for saying the right words. Who knew that his innate curiosity and lack of impulse control might one day earn him points. Also, he very much understood exactly what Airey was on about for those exact reasons. He saluted Airey right back, grinning all the while, before the guy jumped off his desk, at which point Toby hurriedly caught up with his notes. But writing notes was difficult when he was way more interested in listening to what Airey was SAYING (he found it very difficult to do both). So instead, he focused on the latter.
After a moment, Toby's eyes drifted back to the box. Really, he'd have been curious no matter what it had looked like, having always been something of an explorer. Lowkey explorer, maybe, but still. He'd done his fair share of adventuring and discovering in the castle. But the box... the box...
Toby raised his hand after thinking for a good while.
"I think... the box is sorta like space 'cause it's mysterious, right? You weren't telling us what was in there, that it was none of our business, and that meant it was unobtainable, which maaaaade it desirable. Or the knowledge of what was inside became desirable. Ages and ages ago, space was this unobtainable and unreachable and unknowable THING, and because we couldn't know about it... humankind just wasn't having that, and decided they DID want to know about it. Unstoppable, really." He lowered his hand and twirled his quill for a moment. "Also, your box thing was like... reverse psychotherapy." ... Wait, no. "... I mean... psychology. " Yeah, that. The two kinda sorta related in that way, see? Except Airey was doing the reverse psychologising today and the universe itself had done it in the past. "It's like human nature to want to know things, I think, and make sense of them." Nod nod nod.

Beverly squirmed in her seat. She wanted to know what was inside that box. Airey was making such a big deal about it that now she was expecting something amazing to come out of it. If it was empty like Adi suggested it was, she was going to be greatly disappointed and grumpy.
Eyes jumping from Airey to the box and from the box to Airey, Beverly raised her hand. "If it's a lot like space, then I think it has to do with the infinite possibilities of what can be in that box." It could range from sweets to gobstones to flowers to toys. Endless possibilities.
Angel looked at the Professor and raised her hand. "Professor is it because we don't know what is in it, so it's mysterious just like space is mysterious in different ways?" Angel thought she might as well guess.
Norah wiggled her bum on her chair bag thingy mabob. Professor Flamsteed had sure thought this whole thing through, hadn't he. There were like a million trillion answers to all his questions. How did professors even come up with this stuff? Maybe she really needed to go to teacher school because it seemed like all that came out of there was a whole lot of smartness. She smiled at Flamsteed's praise. Maybe his heart wasn't that shriveled. Maaaaaybe he'd just eaten to many raisins. Who knew. He was the genius, after all.
Once she'd scribbled down all the notes (which didn't even leave any time for doodles of outer space), the fourth year put a hand in the air. How was the box like space? She'd TELL you how that dumb thing was like space. "It's AGONY," she began, gesturing wildly in case he couldn't SEE how agonizing it was. "All we know about it is what we can see from the outside, and that's just one teeny tiny itty bitty perspective and we don't even know what's on the inside which isn't fair because I want to know. Space is a mystery too, and apparently you need to be good at maths to go to space so I'll never ever know what that perspective is and it's no fair." Had she mentioned that it wasn't fair? Because it wasn't.

Cobwebs, cobwebs, cobwebs. Heather had missed the previous question due to trying to beat the stupid things back so to speak. Not that she'd had an answer anyways. Nope, she really didn't think too much about the hows and whys of space travel. Just 'oooh'ed and 'aww'ed over the pictures and information sent back.
The next question she was ready for though. "Because we really don't know what's in it until we 'explore' it or in the box' case, open it." Nailed it.

He LIKED her answer? For real? Dot wiggled around happily in her seat before paying attention to the next question. Why were there always MORE questions? Wasn't he ever gonna be happy with what he had? Silly Starman.
Or was that the point? People always wanted a little bit more, the next step, to know what came next. Even people like Dot, who didn't dream about the stars. "Maybe it's bigger on the inside, professor. I mean... right now, until you know what's in there, it has the whole universe of possibilities."
Hugh understood what Flamstead was getting at and HE, more than most people in this room, enjoyed the philosophical implications of that question. But....that analogy disappointed him. It went back to space not curiosity as an ideal. HE COULD TALK FOREVER ON THE THEORY OF THINGS, yo, but the actual practice was far less interesting to him.
He made a show of sulking and rose his hand, "They're both related because neither is proven with complete certainty to exist." NOTHING, besides his own thoughts, were proven to be honest.
Everything in the whole breath of so-called existence was just assumed to be real. No real proof. THAT was something he could talk about.
Oh. Cool. 3 Points for Hufflepuff. Alright,alright,alrightt...finally he was gaining points for his house and not losing them for once. Henric listened to the professor as he talked and took down some notes in his parchments. He frowned slightly, not understanding the last few bits. Wow...that was some philosophy lecture going on. Weren't they talking about space exploration earlier?
Henric thought for a moment before raising his hands,"Possibilities are endless, professor, we are given the right to choose...its our choice whether or not we want to know or walk away empty-handed." And right now...he wanted to know what was in that box. Unless Professor Flamsteed pull a fast one on them with the 'pull a rabbit out of the hat trick', he had a feeling it could be nothing in that box after all.

He paused. "I'm thinking there's nothing in that box.'' Just saying. Plus, it was his way of trying to get an answer out of the man again.
The Astronomy professor nodded his head and pursed his lips while entertaining a deep thought, but he did not respond to the first part of what the prefect had to say.
"If you truly believe that to be the case, Mr. Rehman, the why have so much interest in it?" he replied with a sly smirk, tapping his nose before moving on.

There were so many parts of space that were just waiting to be discovered and explored.
Unexplored, yes, a notion that had just been visited moments earlier. He nodded his head approvingly towards Miss Wright. "Interesting," was all he offered as his gaze moved to the next hand.

His sly smile grew just a tiny bit more at Miss Addison's words as excitement continued to bubble up inside himself. "The unknown, very good."
Very very good.

That excitement that had been bubbling up inside him? Yeah. About that. It was fizzing now like a flat muggle carbonated beverage. "Mr. Adair, I made that sign myself as a response to a student doing precisely what you just did in order to prevent such travesty from occurring again." He squinted hard at the prefect. It was quite out of character for the young man to be THIS confused. Had someone taken advantage of his prefect with one of those potions Culloden was handing out for testing practice.
He just KNEW that had been a terrible idea! Scrambled his prefect's brains.
Nodding at the answer, Airey was about to move on when he did a double take and stopped in front of Mr. Adair's desk again. "You may go retrieve the sign to prove my case, if you wish."

Airey's eyes were practically sparkling at Mr. Toby's words, his hands clenched up into giddy fists against his cheeks as he hung on every words. Eventually a high pitched squeak that arguably only cruppies could hear escaped the man's mouth.
Well done. Well done indeed.

Miss Valentine received a nod of the head as well. There was no real right or wrong answer to his question, so there was no need for her to be asking - or implying asking - in her response.

Ah. There he was. The professor had been wondering with this particular Slytherin would pop up. With essentially the same answer he had given every other time he had spoken in his lessons. At least this time it, er, was on topic?
Kind of.
He did nod somewhat approving nod towards the young man, however.

"THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!"
That seemed like an appropriate place to move on yes? Yes.
"I want each of you to look to the person on your right. Now look at the person on your left. Your answers you all just shared illustrate that each of you is infected, a good infection of course, with this need to know. This innate curiosity that is practically imprinted on our DNA. The unknown, as many of you referenced, is a state of being that humans have a hard time accepting. My box is a lot like outer space because it represents the unknown. Now, for the most part, we have been to every corner of our planet. We are still exploring the bottom of our oceans, but we have essentially explored every surface there is to explore. Space, on the other hand, is another story."
He gave his box another pat, but did not look inside this time.
"Space...the Last Frontier..." He refrained from going into the rest of the monologue. "...despite the dangers that lie in space exploration, as well as the exploration of all areas unknown, humans are all willing to take some risk in order to solve a mystery, or to explore a new world. That’s how humans are. It’s normal. Each and every one of you has a little bit of astronaut inside, that bit that is willing to push the envelope and seek out new discoveries no matter what the cost."
Turning to the board, he gave his wand another flick to have one more word appear on it just above the phrase 'need to know'.
Quote:
POTENTIAL
"Now, before I let you know what is in my box, let’s talk about one final justification for space exploration. I have added the word 'potential' here on the board. What does that word mean to you?"
OOC: we're in the home stretch! Thanks for hanging in there everyone and for your participation <3 all your posts just make me sdlkfjsdlfjldsjfls so excited!

Angel looked at the Professor, this lesson was amazing but she seriously wanted to know what was in the box now, could she have a peek, please. Angel wondered if her puppy dog eyes would work, they seemed to always work on Benny, he just couldn't say no when she put them on so maybe the Professor would show her what was in the box if she used them on him, well if he didn't show her soon what was in the box that is what she would be doing.
Angel was totally wanting to know what was in the box and she also had a feeling her sister did as well. She was sure it was something amazing.
Angel raised her hand after the Professor asked the question "It means that you have a great chance to succeed right, like a young sports man that has all the right attributes will be called a potential superstar, or a potential world class player." Angel smiled as she thought about all the potential singers, footballers and that lot that didn't live up to their potential. "Though you still have to work hard to reach your potential otherwise you won't reach it."
Ohhhhh. So... that was what that whole 'final frontier' business was all about. Well, that was pretty cool. Toby nodded along with what Airey was saying, having abandoned note-taking completely in order to do his best to hang on the man's every word (at least as much as it was possible for Toby to do). He only really hoped that Soph or maybe Zander or someone else was taking notes he would be able to borrow later. Even the ones he'd already made were, ah... a little bizarre, not that he realised. There were lots of cow doodles.
Seeing the word 'potential' made Toby stop and think for a good long moment. He knew about that word. He'd heard people tell him he had 'potential' ever since he was a little kid, except back then it was in a completely different context and with totally different connotations. Now, for some reason, when he saw the word 'potential', he automatically thought 'patronus'. Thank you, troll!brain. Yeah, not even going there today.
After giving it some thought, Toby raised his hand.
"To ME it's like... being told you have the ability to do something, or the pre-... pre-requi-... uhh... you already have the things that mean you can eventually do THE Thing. Even if you won't do The Thing or can't do The Thing yet, that you could do it one day if you tried or if you worked at it or something. Like it's totally POSSIBLE but needs WORK. But sometimes people are way more specific, like 'YOU HAVE POTENTIAL' and end it there, which is confusing." There. Nice and vague and not personal. Toby leaned back a little to rock on the legs of his chair. "So I guess with space we have the potential to explore fuuuurther and further in the future, even if there's things we can't do yet. Just gotta bide our time and work on it." He could have made a Quidditch reference there, but was by now quite distracted on balancing on the legs of his chair.

Okay, so suddenly the class was moving too fast for him or maybe he shouldn't have zoned out and continued scribbling nonsense. When he came to, he noticed Maggie had given Zander a decent haircut. Aw, it wasn't anything drastic. Zander could definitely do with drastic though, the fifth year mused to himself.
Back to Professor Space. Noel nodded along with others, space exploration definitely wasn't just about upgrading stuff. It was because humans have an unavoidable itch to know things. To explore.
When the professor directed the question toward the box, Noel couldn't help but get excited. WILL HE TELL THEM NOW? "It's like the outer space because it's such a mystery to us, sir. A suspense that no one can resist" he gestured toward the ceiling - cause you know space was in that direction and all, "and until you let us see what's inside, the box is the same for us" He chimed in with the others. And he was getting excited because LOOK AT PROFESSOR SPACE. He was jumpy, squeaky and so totally pumped about whatever was inside that box.
Noel really hoped that was the last question before the big reveal. BUT he was asking another question and - the anticipation was too much. The reveal better be worth it, professor space.
Raising his hand, Noel offered an answer: ".. potential, sir, is like ... the prospect that something has the ability to lead to epic-ness." .. wait, was that a word? He sucked at explaining! How was Toby so good at this? "It's like .. space exploration or exploration of the unknown has the potential to lead us to something so amazing that it's all worth the effort" he tried explaining. NOW CAN WE KNOW WHAT'S IN THE BOX?

Janelle listened to everyone give their answer. It was interesting to hear everyone's take on the matter. The answers could go in so many different directions. Then it was on to the next question.
Potential. What did the word mean to her? Janelle thought about it for a moment. It was kind of hard to put her definition into words, but she had to try. Potential was one of those things that you knew and understood, but had a hard time explaining. She raised her hand to take a shot.
"If something has potential, it has the possibiity to be great........if the circumstances are right. It may be in the early stages of developing, not quite there.....but showing promise of improving. So.......potential is the possibilty of developing into something better than you are right now." Did that make sense?

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
"Because I want to know if my theory is correct, Professor,'' Adi replied to Flamsteed cheerfully. There was NOTHING he could do about how crazy high his curiosity could get. He just wanted to knowwwww! Spare them all, Starman!
Wait... The Suit was going to be revealing the contents soon? IT WAS ABOUT TIME! Let's just get this question out of the way! Adi thrust his hand up again. "Potential to me means having the ability and determination to complete something no matter how difficult it may be.'' He paused to think some more then continued. "It's all about pushing yourself to accomplish as task you want to do.''

Kate was still in her HYPER!EXCITED mode and found herself more than slightly disappointed that they still hadn't opened that box. She had about decided there were cupcakes inside that box. Why? Because the professors always fed them! Well, not always, but lots of times.
So what were they focusing on now? Potential? "It means OPPORTUNITIES!" she said, raising her hand in the air. "It means something might not be here now, or it might not be here in ways we want it to be, but it can be!"

Potential? Hmm. Everyone had covered the basic definitions, but Dima thought he could add some more to the discussion as well, so he raised his hand.
"I think everyone has infinite potential, because I like to believe that nothing's impossible. So ANYONE is capable of doing ANYTHING because there's no limit to the possibilities. Whenever people say 'you have potential' or something, people either take it as a compliment or a criticizing remark, 'cause they think it's like saying they're not good enough yet. But I just think it's like stating the obvious, because, well... it IS obvious."
Woah. End rant.
Back to irrelevant doodling on parchment.

Norah was about to get all indignant about the unfairness of everything all over again when Professor Flamsteed was going to call HER answer AMUSING. That's right, Professor. She KNEW what you were going to say. She wasn't that brainless even if people did call her slow sometimes which was really just mean because her legs ran pretty fast even if her brain didn't sometimes. So there. Except then he started singing and everything was okay. Or more okay, anyways, which was really good enough for her. She giggled into her hands, then looked up solemnly with only a small twitch of the corners of her mouth. See? She was getting better at stopping the giggling before she got in trouble. That was one for the Daily Prophet.
The fourth year didn't have to try as hard to keep from giggling when the next question was introduced, because she'd heard that word a whole bunch of times. Y'know, because apparently Norah had all sorts of it and she just needed to "apply" herself more which she thought she had been doing the entire time but what did she know, anyways. Apparently not enough. It was really the universe's fault, 'cause knowledge came from books and if they wanted her to know more they should've made books less boring. So y'know what, it wasn't her fault. With a hand in the air, she said, "I think it means...when there's a possibility for good stuff to happen. Or at least what some people THINK is good."
Could they sing some more? That was much better than whatever this word had to do with stuff. Unless this word was going to mean they get to open the box because she'd be able to forgive it if there was a good surprise in there.
After that the lesson just got boring again. It was all about space. Probably. She wasn't really paying attention. Which was partly because she didn't want to give Professor Flamsteed the satisfaction of letting him see that she really really really really wanted to know what was in that box. Which pfft of course she did NOT. Not at all. Nope. Not possible. It was all a lie.
So naturally she tried to distract herself.
By watching other people talk. Noel for instance. He was saying intelligent things. Yes.
Also he had very nice hair. Which was also interesting to watch.
After Flamsteed had asked the most recent question, Maggie sighed. Okay maybe she should SORT of participate. But she wasn't going to look at the box. Because she didn't care about the box. Not one bit. Instead she looked at Dima who'd just answered before her. Better than looking at the box. "Potential means some people can do things and some people can't." Totally good answer. Oh wait. This was a space class...err....so....

SPOILER!!: Airey
Waiting to respond to her first inquiry until after Miss Valentine had finished speaking, Airey found himself chuckling again. "I believe, you answered your own question, Miss Valentine," he winked. "Whether my answer was yes or no in regards to Hogwart's hidden swimming pool, would it deter you from searching for it? Won't you only be satisfied when you have reached the answer yourself?"
Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. "That was deep." AJ blinked a few times, and tried to absorb it all in. The space man just blew her mind. "No, it wouldn't. Because how would I know either way if what you were saying was really true?" If he said no, he could have really meant yes and only said no because he didn't want her to search for it. Wanted to keep the dragon swimming pool to himself, did he? She was on to him. Not to mention her brain was doing very Ravenclaw-ish things. Help me.. I'm lost. I don't know where I am. She was overthinking this. Stop it.
Next question, please.
Before he tells us what's in the box. They still weren't at that point yet? Patience was not something she had a lot of, and she was starting to formulate plans that involved eating the box. No. No. No.
Potential.
"I think it means that people have the ability to change or like, be whatever they wanna be. My mom always tells my dad that's there's still potential left in me, and that I could grow up any day now." Beam. One second thought, that was pretty rude, mom. Thanks a lot.

W H A T ? ? ? ?
Why didn't anyone ever believe him? Okay, normally the disbelief was justified BUT THIS TIME he was actually right about something!! And though he wanted to continue fighting it, he also knew that he'd be pushing his luck with Professor F. Especially after tidal waves. So instead of arguing again, the Gryffindor just sat with his mouth hanging ajar... Also his eyes were doing some strange bugging out thing.
See what you've done now, Professor? You've broken him. Zander Adair is very much like a real life Tinker Bell. And since you didn't believe, he was going to die. Which would be breaking one of the number one rules in the classroom. So not only did he 'not follow directions' about the lint roller (THAT HE ACTUALLY DID FOLLOW DESPITE POPULAR BELIEF), but now he was also gonna die.
Why must bad things happen to good people?
But then it was a Christmas miracle!!! Professor Flamsteed did a double take and with it he returned all hope for Neverland and the lost children... Or something like that. Actually, Zander hadn't really been paying attention when his mother forced him to watch that movie with her. He wasn't really one for the old classics. Plus that story seemed to lose it's pizzaz after the whole Hooksteed thing. Yeah, we still remember that one.
Anyways, where was he again? Oh yes, THE DOUBLE TAKE!!! 'You may go retrieve the sign to prove my case, if you wish'. And you know what!? Zander DID wish. So he put a very focused look on his face ('cause this meant serious business) and got out of his seat to grab the sign from it's place on the table. Oh also, he'd take the lint roller and put it back in place... Even if it still had a bunch of (PRECIOUS) blonde hairs still stuck to it. Wibble.

AHA SEE, THAT'S WHAT IT SAID!!
The sign DID say to use it as a brush. SEE? Zander wasn't going insane!! He wasn't delusional! This was totally a trap. Someone must've set him up for this because at a second glance... It did look like someone tampered with the sign. No matter, it still said what it said. So Professor F owed Zander an apology.
HA.
So he marched all the way back to his seat, politely letting others answer the next question because he could be SHINING with the GLOW OF RIGHT-NESS-NESS and still have manners. See, he deserved all the good things! Not a lint roller in his hair. What kind of bad karma did he have to get that anyways? Not cool, Merlin. We're looking at you.
The Prefect stuck his hand up in the air, waiting his turn. Ahem. Though he was really growing inpatient because HE HAD A POINT TO PROVE. Pick ME, Professor!!!! Okay. Yes. Good. Thanks. "Well to me, Professor, potential means that," and here he held out the sign right so that Professor F could see it. "this sign could've potentially made me go bald for just trying to follow directions." So basically, "Do you SEE this, Professor?! Someone messed with your sign!... And also my hair." Still bitter.
Was he being believable now?
Because he'd throw a fit. The proof was literally RIGHT HERE.
