Astronomy Lesson 1 :: The Moon {formation theory & tides} OOC: This is IC your character's FIRST Astronomy lesson of the term. Please be sure you are familiar with Professor Flamsteed's rules BEFORE you post in this lesson. We will know if you haven't read them! All SnitchSeeker site rules apply. |
Sophie was IN A BIG HURRY TO GET TO CLASS TODAY. She was LINT-FREE and HAPPY AS COULD BE. So when she BURST into the room nice and early, she raised the hand that wasn't holding her galoshes and balled it into a fist to pump into the air and declare I GOT A OUTSTANDING! as if the man didn't already know her OWL result in his class... but he wasn't there. No one was there, actually, and Sophie Brown deflated. Laaaaaaame. The sixth year let out a defeated sigh, and was immediately reminded of that darn CLASS last term that Bunz taught. Was this a trick? Was SHE in the room again testing them? She groaned her displeasure at the mere thought and VERY DRAMATICALLY took out her wand, POINTING IT AROUND AT EVERYTHING SUSPICIOUSLY. "Homenum Revelio," she cast at the room at large, her eyebrows raised in expectation for Bunz to be revealed and be disappointed that she hadn't fooled everyone again. No, BUNZ and FLAMMY, they all had learned their lesson, okay? |
Astronomy!!! Penelope loved astronomy, but not all of Professor Flamsteed's lessons had always been enjoyable for her. Maybe this term would be a good term for her. As always, Penelope used her own lint roller to get the cat fur and lint off of her robes before entering the classroom. She had not missed the notice about bringing a pair of galoshes, and she had brought a pair to change in to. Flamsteed wasn't here. That was unusual. Penelope pulled out her wand. Constant vigilance and all that. Sitting down at a desk near the front of the room that was on the side of the room nearer to the door, Penelope read the instructions on the blackboard. Quote:

One of the first classes of the new term and it was astronomy. It always seemed like Professor Flamsteed managed to finagle an almost early start to his lessons. Not that it mattered much to Ben as he prepared himself for the class, nor as he made his way to the tower classroom at the time directed by the announcement on the bulletin board. Granted afternoon usually wasn't the appointed session since you couldn't stargaze, but it wasn't too much of an oddity. But the absence of anyone...at least not the professor was more of one. Bennye entered the classroom just in time to hear Sophie cast a spell to check for any surprises. Thankfully nothing seemed to be up. So he moved to take a seat at one of the desks in the semi-circle. Then spotting the instructions on the bulletin board, the sixth year proceeded to do as was directed. Quill out...name written...tap of his wand onto the parchment. Now he had a wooden nametag that he moved to the front of his desk. Quote:

Echo was so happy for this lesson she loved things to do with space and stuff, even though she didn't know much about it she opened the door only to see only a few other peeople there. Sophie Seeing her she realized that she forgotten to go over herself with the lint roller thingy. Once she was completely sure that everything was gone off her uniform, she went and sat down near the older girl, she's seen the girl around last year but didn't know her name. Leaning over she spoke "Hai, Im Echo... are we really early? wheres the Professor?" she asked politely. Normally every time she arrived to class he was here waiting for them. Looking around she felt so stupid she didn't even notice her own cousin Emmy it was always so nice to be in classes with her cousin, and around her in general she loved being around her family. Waving to get her attention she smiled "Hey 'EMMM" still waving her hand like a little girl... ooopppssieee, might as well put her name tag thingy on her desk like the instructions told her to do. *TAP* she tapped the label thingy and it turned to wood making a name tag, Cool. Quote:
*smirk* there we go Echo your off to a good start. |
The first class of the term. Janelle was ready, at least she Hought she was. First stop, the de-listing station. She picked up the lint brush and began to Remove the imaginary lint fom her clothing. Once that was done, Janelle entered the classroom. There were only few students present so far and that was good. Strangely enough, Professor Flamsteed was not at his desk. Janelle took out her wand, just to be safe, then she chose a desk and sat down. "Hi guys", she said to her housemates. (Sophie & Penelope) Glancing at the blackboard, she read the Professor's instructions. Janelle took out her quill and wrote her name on the provided piece of parchment. Quote:

Emmylou tapped the parchment and beamed as it transformed. Magic was always so exciting. Then she heard her name, actually her nickname. The blonde looked over and saw her cousin Echo. "Echo!!! Hey! How are you?" She had just seen her at the feast the night before but that didn't matter to her right now. |
The first thing Lux noticed as she entered the classroom, was Professor Flamsteed's absence. Huh. That was weird... Usually he was waiting for them as they arrived. Shrugging it off, the redhead smiled and waved to everyone before making her way to an empty seat. Reading the instructions on the blackboard, she saw that they were required to make name tags. He already knew who she was, but it was no matter. She quickly filled out the required information: Quote:

Hayden was early, which was weird. She was never one of the first people to arrive at a class. This was probably just a one time thing, she didn't think she'd be making a habit of it. Though she was perfectly happy with the time of her arrival in Astronomy. She was ready to jump back into classes and the familiar routine of Hogwarts life. Though not one of her favorite subjects, Astronomy was a nice place to start. Flamsteed was cool, and Astronomy tended to include fun activities. She was dressed in her comfortable clothes, as the announcement had said. And she was wearing galoshes. She couldn't imagine why, but she wasn't sure she wanted to know until the time came when she couldn't avoid it anymore. Hayden paused outside the door and ran the lint roller over her clothes. She actually had to use it this time, considering the now significant presence of a cat in her life. Evidently that meant she would never escape the presence of cat hair, no matter how many times she tried to clean it up. Hayden made sure to get every piece of hair she possibly could, because that's what Flamsteed would have wanted. It was his classroom so she would have done it out of politeness even if it hadn't been a rule. 'Not to be used as a hairbrush.' First of all, why had that been a necessary rule to right down? What student had gone down in history as the one to prompt an official sign to be made in order to proclaim that rule to everybody who should already have enough common sense to follow it anyway? And someone had signed the sign, how cute. Hayden couldn't quite make out the name though. Glancing at the rule again, Hayden had an idea that made her question why she had been sorted into Hufflepuff. She knew it was wrong, but she really wanted to do it. She glanced around - Flamsteed was not in the room which was strange. That girl had done a spell that should make any hidden watchers visible. And more people were arriving now that allowed Hayden to blend in to the ground. Still casually lint-rolling herself, Hayden inconspicuously reached into her bag and took out her quill. Lalala, just setting it on the table because that was a good place for it. She quickly scibbled out the word 'not' so the sign would now read: 'to be used as a hair brush.' Take that, newbies. She gently set the lint roller back down when she was done and walked calmly to a seat with a group of students all doing the same thing. She needed her quill out anyway, to write her name on the piece of paper. See? Not suspicious at all. Quote:

Kace was glad this class started in the afternoon. He was not much of a morning person though. As he made his way into the classroom all well fed and watered, he saw Professor Flamsteed was not here. Hmmm that was strange usually he was here at the start of class. Eh maybe he was catching a cat nap or something. As he looked around he noticed a little blonde and her cousin. He even noticed Lux the little red head and gave her a tiny wave. He made his way over to Emmy and Echo and sat down with them. He kissed Emmy on the cheek and said, "Heyy Emms..." while placing his backpack down on the ground. He got out his notebook and quill to place on his desk. "Heyy Echo.." he greeted her with a nod. He noticed the others had name tags and he might as well do the same even though Flamsteed knew his name. I mean he had been coming to these lessons for seven years. Seems crazy to think that way. He began to scribe with his quill.... Quote:

As she was talking to Echo the sixth year looked around the classroom and saw a really, really, really tall, blonde haired, blue eyed muscular Hufflepuff fellow. She knew very well who he was and she was smiling was ear to ear. She blushed when he kissed her cheek and made a little squeaky noise. "Hey Kace." She was really, super happy right now. |

looking up at her cousin and her cousins boyfriend she asked. "would any of you have any ink i can borrow, i ran out and i totally forgot my bottle in my commonroom" she thought she was so well prepared for class but apparently she wasn't. |
Abby entered the Astronomy classroom and said "Good evening Professor Flamsteed" Abby quickly gave her robes a roll down with the lint roller and replaced it back onto the table for the next person to use and she took out her quill and wrote Quote:

Norah wasn't the first one in class because she was NOT a first year or really the first in anything, so there wasn't any point she could think of. Plus, it meant she could spend extra time outside before walking all the way up here, and that was the best thing ever if you thought about. Or if you didn't think about it. Outside was just the best thing. After a whole bunch of deliberation she'd decided that her sparkly shoelaces weren't TOO baby-ish, so she arrived outside the door in her purple trainers and comfy clothes juuuuust like the announcement had said. Her eyebrows went up at the sign, because APPARENTLY she was supposed to use it as a hair brush now. Not that she would, though, 'cause hair brushing was still near the very bottom of her list of things she liked to do. Once she was all lint-free, she grinned at Professor Flamsteed as she entered the door--or what she thought was going to be professor Flamsteed and was really just a bunch of students. Well. Sophie Brown got lots of grins then, 'cause she was probably the closest thing to a professor that was in the tower room. Norah wiggled her fingers at Hayden as she plopped into the seat beside her dorm mate. "Hiiiiya Hayden. Where d'ya think Flammy is?" He hadn't fallen asleep like that other time and missed the first lesson of term, right? That'd be pretty lame. And Flamsteed was NOT a lame dude. Ooooh and names. Nice. She wrote 'NORAH LILLIAN KITTREDGE' in her neatest fourteen year old handwriting which still didn't look very nice at all, and ended up grinning stupidly at it as it had morphed into a very cool sign. Woooooooah. Hi sign. HI. Where'd you come from? |
WOO! Her LAST ever first lesson of the term. Zhenya arrived early-ish and gave her robes a quick lint-off before entering the class. They were super clean robes, after all. First use this term. Fresh from her trunk. She took a seat and followed the familiar actions of every class; out came the quill, ink, parchment and textbook. Her wand was safe inside her robes. She rolled her neck around, then noticed there was a sign on the board. Following the instructions, she wrote her name and year. Quote:

Eden was HERE. And she was PRESENT in the FIRST ASTRO lesson of term. This was exciting. Eden was glad she had lessons to distract her very sad brain. Very sad indeed. She de-linted herself before slipping into the classroom to look for familiar faces. She saw a Sophie Brown, whom she felt a bit more....connected to lately, and a LUUUX! Eden shifted over to sit next to the Hufflepuff who had WON her heart over last term. She smiled..."Hi Luxy..." she said with a wink. So, spirits were high. This was a VERY good sign. Eden felt almost normal. The thought of Phoenix not being here was....nope. That made her lip tremble momentarily--but she blinked a lot and just..yes. She could DO this. She was EDEN and she just--she HAD to do this. She had to. Flamy wasn't here, but she wanted to tell him that her pet rock was doing just FINE. Scribbling her name on the piece of parchment, Eden almost MISSPELLED her OWN NAME. HOW EVEN. E-D-E-N..NOT HARD. Not at ALL. SIGH. Quote:

Philipe came in, and glanced around. Actually on time for his first class. He gave out a slight sigh of relief and sat down looking around the room, and doing as the paper said. Quote:
Merlin! The little eleven year old nearly jumped from the paper changing, I... I hope that was supposed to happen.... He tried to glance around with out making it obvious and bit back a sigh of relief seeing that everyone's had done it... No need to be nervous, he wasn't being labeled as an idiot quite yet. |
SPOILER!!: ROOMIE OH HEY IT WAS NORAH. Hayden had a grin for her friend, and was glad when she took the seat next to her. Maybe, if there was an activity, they could be partners. Things were always more fun when they were done with a friend. It was just a fact of life. "Hey Norah!" She had just seen her not too long ago (they did share a room and all) but it was exciting to see her here in the Astronomy classroom after arriving at different times. Hayden was just excited in general. "He's probably debating which suit to wear or something like that." Or lint rolling until there wasn't a single speck of anything on his suit? Was he using it as a hair brush, though? Hehe. |
Dot Wojack paused at the little rolly sticky thing to give the spider web on the desk a careful little roll, as well as picking some glitter off her sleeve, and then she bopped happily into the classroom. Where was the StarMan? She had to report to him about space haikus. And jewelry. She wanted to talk to him about jewelry. But he wasn't there. Meeeeep. Sad. Dot's bopping turned into shuffling as she slid into a seat near Sophie-Daisy. Her bag was tucked under her seat, and then Dot turned her attention to the directions. Her FULL name? Merlin... the WHOLE THING? Fine. Quote:

Astronomy. Astronomy. Astronomy. Zander DIDN'T fail this one. Probably had something to do with the fact that he had used Lottie's notes to study for the exam. And all that extra constellation homework certainly helped. Who knew?!? Homework was actually good for something other than putting the boy to sleep. Woah. It was magic. Anyways, first Astronmy lesson of the year and Zander Adair was ready to go. Well, ready as he'd ever be, anyways. 'Cause really who was ever ready for a lesson of any sort? Ravenclaws, probably. For example, Sophie Brown was probably always ready to learn. It was just the way she lived. Probably. After lint-rolling himself clean, 'cause you know apparently that was still a thing, he walked into the room. Turning to the desk he, "Hello Professor Flam--Uh." You know that awkward moment when you greet a teacher that isn't even present. Yeah. Ahem. Running to a desk now YUP. La la la. Quote:

Henric wasn't looking forward to Professor Flamsteed's class but he walked in anyway with a heavy sigh. He found a seat...at the back....that was empty and claimed it as his own. He really didn't want to be here, but he had no choice, he had to because he would be seeing Professor Flamsteed personally in his office as soon as the class was over. He noticed the instructions on the noticeboard and looked down on his parchment. Might as well follow whatever his classmates did before he could get in anymore trouble with the Gryffindor Head of House. He wrote his name with his quill: Quote:
|
No Flamsteed? That was odd. Although with that man, Caleb figured he shouldn't be surprised by anything anymore. Like the lint roller that was, as always, at the front of the room. It was so normal now. Which really wasn't normal, because who makes kids roll themselves down before class? Regardless, Caleb couldn't help but wonder if something was up. He HAD looked awfully sick on that field trip over the summer... Plopping himself next to the young girl...what was her name? Echo?...who had talked to him at the feast and been all...excited and stuff, he wrote down his nametag and then gave it a tap as instructed. Quote:

Astronomy... She had done even better on her owns than she thought she would. She was very proud of herself. She was. She headed up the tower, bag slung over her shoulder. She was going to wait on Bart or Emmy in the common room to walk up with them. But decided to go ahead and head up alone. No big deal it was that far from the Common room. Lint roller... Things never changed right? The sixth year headed into the classroom. No Flamsteed? That was a rare thing. She seen a Sophie Brown who was all badged up this term. She give her a smile and a wave. Before heading over to EMMY and her little group with Kace and Echo Although she had never officially met the snake, she knew that was Emmy's cousin. The Lioness, took a seat near them. She smiled but didn't say anything. She wrote down her name and year as instructed. Quote:

It seemed that nothing had changed where Flamsteed was concerned. He still held the first class of the term and he still had that ridiculous lint roller. Michael ignored it, how could he possibly get dirty or produce any fluff on his robes when the only place he had been was the Common Room? He did raise his eyebrows however when he heard a Ravenclaw girl cast the revealing spell. This was Astronomy, right? And not DADA? Just to be safe, he cast a protective spell around himself. He scanned the room checking to see who was already there and did notice the absence of the Professor but thought nothing of it, Professor's were often late to class. He did spot the chick (Emmylou) who had yelled at him at the Opening Feast and he tossed her a wink as he passed by her desk. Oh he was going to have fun tormenting her. He finally settle on sitting near two girls who looked to be his age (Zhenya) and (Eden). "I wonder what Flammy has in store for us today." He muttered as he threw himself into the chair. He picked up his quill and wrote his name and year before tapping the parchment with his wand and watched with disinterest as it turned into a plaque. Quote:
