Ancient Runes Lesson I: Dramatic Arts of the Runic Era
The Ancient Runes classroom was transformed. There were no chairs or tables or the usual nametags for students, but a couple of big boxes with unfamiliar and unusual clothes inside them were laid down by the professor's big desk. The walls of the classroom were the unusual color of bright white. The blackboard was still there, though, with the date of today and a title of 'Dramatic Arts of the Runic Era'.
Professor Botros was standing near the entrance of the classroom as his habit, waiting to greet students who walked in.
ooc: - Class has STARTED, please don't post your character walking in. Pretend as if you've been here the whole time. Unless you want them to get in trouble.
- Please familiarize yourself with the rules and guidelines for this class before posting.
You have bewitched me body and soul, And I love- I love- I love you
Ancient Runes, even the name of the class sounded boring and difficult. Evie was sure this was going to be awful. She was tempted to just turn around and go back to the dorms.
She was taken aback by seeing no desks when she entered the classroom however. "Hello Professor." The first year smiled as she walked past the professors desk. She looked quizzically around the room but only saw the unusual boxes and clothes. The title of the lesson that was printed on the board however did catch her fancy. Dramatic Arts? Does that mean theatre? She loved going to the theatre and putting on plays for her family. For now she would have to wait and see.
Norah walked into Ancient Runes with a big smile on her face, not because she liked the subject but because Professor Botros was a cool dude who deserved nice things like smiles. Everybody knew that. "Hi Professor Botros." She looked around to see where she should sit, raising an eyebrow when she saw that sitting really wasn't an option. Apparently the fourth year really needed to get better at reading things, because it took a minute of being puzzled and staring at the boxes before she looked up and saw the message. Dramatic arts....COOL.
She went to stand by Marigold for OBVIOUS super cool friend reasons, except there was some dude Hughthere. Not only was there a dude, but there was a non-Mitchie dude who was busy being all blushy. That was new. With a small shrug she booped Mari on the arm with her nose and stood beside her, watching the mysterious dude to see what would happen. Why was he blushing, anyways? It was just Marigold. Yeah, she was the coolest ever but it was no reason to be embarrassed.

Stepping into the room, he noticed the boxes and the clothes. Were they going to dress up? And before he could greet Botros, he noticed Marigold. His heart stopped a bit. Alright, he was fiiiiine. Cough. He already was liking this class. "Hello professor! What's up?" he even thought twice before greeting Botros with a 'What's up' but, oh well.
Moving on....
The third year walked towards Marigold. He was slightly nervous but wasn't going to miss this chance. Nope. "Hey..." he smiled shyly "So...dramatic arts it is" he had no idea what else to say. His brain had gone on vacation.
Marigold had opened up her bag and was digging through it for a quill when she heard footsteps nearby. She extracted her hand from the bag quickly, wincing and she got a slight burn from the zipper, and made eye contact with a blushing Hugo.
"Hey!" she said, smiling at the youngun. "What've you been up to?" She kept eye contact as she knelt back down and rummaged around for parchment, then found it and stood back up again.
Oh. Right. Dramatic arts. "…yikes."

NORAH. Marigold returned the boop, except with her hand to Norah's nose, then squished her lovingly. Norah was the squishingest little one there ever was, and one of the only reasons she was getting sad about graduating. BUT NOT THINKING ABOUT THAT YEP.

Ancient runes. Penelope wasn't entirely sure that she really understood everything about this class, but she found it fascinating. "Good morning, Professor Botros." When she entered the classroom, she saw that everything looked different. Where were all the desks? Penelope looked over at the boxes of clothes. Were they going to be dressing up? Was this going to be like Professor Glendower's class? This would be an interesting lesson.
Ancient Runes never failed to fill Cutty with a sense of limitation. Not that he expected much flexibility from stone and wood, but it was sad, extremely sad that in the three years he'd had Botros for a teacher he had perhaps but once seen anything he found himself able to work with. There was no accounting for taste apparently.
Nonetheless as he stepped into class he wore the Chinese smile and saluted Ab Botros. "Good morning, Professor." He said as he glided into class. His eye immediately caught the box of ...what was that? Cutty stepped around the class for a closer inspection and pulled out a shirt. He held it against his body as if to see how it would fit and then out before placing it back into the box. Dress up, h'mm? Ooh, and drama according to the board. He'd make the most of it. Come hell or high water he took that OWL and he would make the most of this.
Marigold had opened up her bag and was digging through it for a quill when she heard footsteps nearby. She extracted her hand from the bag quickly, wincing and she got a slight burn from the zipper, and made eye contact with a blushing Hugo.

"NORAHRAHRAH. Meet Hugo. Hugo, meet the coolest person to ever exist."
Yeah, Marigold was good at introductions.
Marigold was making too much eye contact. TOO MUCH. Hugo tried to look as relax as possible. She was winning though, he couldn't hold the eye contact that much. Bye Marigold. He glanced at Dante, "Not much, just eating as much as possible." very productive he was "And waiting to see what's new about runes" not really.
And...there was another girl. She was interrupting. Ehem. "Hey" gave a what's up nod to the Hufflepuff. Coolest person? "You gotta prove that" mhm.
Angel walked into the classroom and smiled. "Good Day Professor Botros." Angel then suddenly added. "I hope you had a lovely summer?" Angel had a feeling the Head and Deputy would probably have to stay at school all on their lonesome but well they were probably used to it by now right.
Rowan bounced her way up to the Runes classroom and through the door, she was in a wonderful mood this morning, so hopefully this would be awesome. "Whoa can we dress up, Professor?" she asked, beaming at the boxes of clothes.

White. Walls. White. Walls.
Rooney almost reached for the paper bag inside his satchel, but just tightened a fist against the fabric of his robes and closed his eyes. "Hello, Professor.." His voice was quiet, and his address was something short of enthusiastic and eyes still closed. Complete whitewash in a room reminded him of that dream he'd had for a month prior to coming here. Here, being Hogwarts. Not this classroom.
After a few seconds he was calm enough to open his eyes and checked who else was in the room.

SPOILER!!: Zeke
Seeing Hady arrive, Zeke raised a hand to wave her over, but realised she was going off to.. be by herself. If he thought she wanted company he'd have followed, but as it was she seemed to want to be alone.
...
In the end, Zeke decided to plop himself on the floor and lay out like a starfish. May as well lounge about until everyone else got here.
She'd seen Zeke as she had passed him and moved across the room. The thought had occurred to her when she noticed him laying on the floor that she should've went to stand with him like she normal did. Why she hadn't done that from the start she wasn't honestly sure.
So before she realized it her feet were moving and she was standing at his side. She sat down on the floor with her legs crossed underneath her facing him. Reaching out and gently poked him in the side to get his attention even as she leant downwards whispering to him, "Ya know cloud gazing is much more fun outside where there's actually clouds." A cute grin was spread across her face as she teased him in their usual playful manner. This was her small attempt at appologing for not joining him right away.

Dot bopped into the classroom and slid to a stop when she spotted the unusual set-up. The walls and the costumes and... HULLO, MR. PROFESSOR MAN! The bopping continued all the way up to Professor Botros, who got a cheerful arm hug and a pat-pat-pat. It was possible that Botros was her best chance at best friending a professor.
"I'm not much of an actress, sir. Maybe I can direct. Also, good day to you."
Kace heard Professor Bostros was having an Ancient Runes lesson. I mean why not give the lesson a shot. Sure this maybe his weakest subject but he wanted to give it one last try since this was his last year. Also can we mention this was his head of house? He was pretty cool with Professor B. As he went into the room, he noticed there was other students that beat him to it. He grinned and waved to them all and then he noticed Bostros was sitting at the top of the room. "Hello Professor Bostros. I trust you had a good summer?"
He meant to visit him but he had been busy meeting with other professors to discuss his career options. He found an open seat near the window and placed his notebook on his desk or well where his desk used to be and he heard it fell. What in the bloody merlin? He looked around and noticed there was no desks. Weirrdddd, there were only boxes? I guess he was sitting on the floor. He plopped down on the floor waiting for the lesson of the Dramatic Arts.

It was neat watching people arrive from this angle, he could even see up noses. HA!
Zeke gave a friendly wave and semi-nod to people as he saw them, Zhenya, Adi, Gabe and Toby. Why they all bothered to stand he didn't know. It was nice down here. Their loss.

Speech-giving, debate, those kinds of things were his thing. Acting was ridiculous. Why pretend to be another person when he was completely happy being himself? Besides, he was awful at it.
His eyes scanned the room for a familiar face. There wasn't one, because he didn't know a single soul at this school. He took a deep breath. It was time to make a friend. Or at least talk to one person so he wouldn't be bored in this class for the rest of the year.
It looked like everyone pretty much knew each other, but the most interesting person was a kid lying on the floor taking up as much space as he could. Without hesitation, Xavi laid down beside him. "What are you looking at?" he queried, staring up at the ceiling like the older boy.
He was content laying there, just laying there, watching, but it was always MUCH nicer when one had company. So when a Ravenclaw boy joined him, he couldn't help but grin. "Everything, everyone," he informed. "I dunno, it's just more comfy than standing." Did the boy agree?

To make this lesson even more enjoyable, he had a Hady sitting beside him. Her whispered words resulted in a slight smirk on his behalf, and he couldn't help but agree.
"Just making the most of a situation," he informed. "You could lay down too," or not, whatever suited her. And... how much longer did he have of relaxing? Did he have to get up yet?

...Oh? No desks? That was curious.
Sophie made an intrigued face and stopped as she entered the classroom, the boxes being the first thing that caught her eye, and as her gaze shifted to the board... Sophie's eyebrows raised. DRAMATIC ARTS, like plays and stuff! Had Botros gotten this idea from Glendower? Were they in cahoots?
Whatever the reason was, Sophie had mixed emotions. Sure, she liked hands-on things, but... she would've been okay with the usual straight-forward lecturing and discussing the runes. Though... maybe this lesson wasn't going to be terribly different from any other class anyway, and she was overthinking it. But... what was with the boxes? No, they were definitely probably going to have to act things out. Soph was good at that kind of spontaneity, though, so... maybe this wasn't going to be completely awful. Could be exciting, really.
"Hi, professor," Sophie greeted the man with a curtsy before moving further into the classroom, offering smiles to all her friends before... seeing a distressed-looking young boy from her own house - Rooney, she knew him to be from their journey to the common room their first night back, and she approached him cautiously. "Y'okay there, Rooney?" the prefect asked before giving him an encouraging, gentle nudge. He wasn't going to have a meltdown or anything, was he?

"I am waiting for Professor B to start the lesson but I am doodling in my notebook though.." he said gesturing to his customized notebook. "Oh yeahh I am quite excited. I mean I am not much of an actor though or you know I am quite pumped to see people be put into different costumes.." he smiled. "I mean if there is any costumes.." he said putting down his notebook and examining the boxes. "What do you think is in the boxes?" he asked curiously and looked around. Surely Professor Bostros would start the lesson soon. He wanted to get this show on the road.
"Oh cool...pretty drawings you have there,Kace,"Henric grinned and went to sit next to him.
Henric nodded agreeably,"Yeah, me too...I'm terrible at acting too...I wonder what Professor Botros going to make us do today..."he replied, smiling back at Kace.
"I don't know mate, I just hope there won't be tights in there...those things are uncomfortable man...best to keep away from them,"Henric told him.Kace would know, right? If he didn't, then he would soon enough.(:p)

Xavi supposed the boy had a point. It was more comfortable than standing. And why sit down to relax when you could expend less effort and just lay there? "Sure," he agreed easily. Except you might get stepped on." Not that it was much of a problem. There didn't seem to be many people in the room just yet, but maybe in a few minutes Xavi would get up. Or the lesson would start, though he was honestly dreading the idea of having to learn dramatic arts. If acting was on their final exam, the first year would fail spectacularly.
As the students filed in, Botros smiled and nodded his head at each one of them. "Hello. Good morning, dear. Hi. Welcome to class again. Hullo. How're you? Come on in..."etc.

Oh, no chairs and tables? Where were they sitting then? On the floor? Henric glanced over the chalkboard...
"Dramatic Arts of the Runic Era,"he read. Merlin...were they going to act out a scene? In class? In front of all these students?! It was like Romeo and Juliet again...he remembered playing the part of Romeo at his mother's bookclub meetings which he was forced to go to by the way...She made him read aloud those embarrassing lines, yet famous quotes of Shakespearean books and fitted for costume as punishment for talking back at her. "Thank... you...?" That wasn't the greeting Abraham was expecting but he smiled at the boy anyway, assuming he meant well with it.
After enough students gathered around in the classroom, Professor Botros closed the door softly and walked in to stand on the small dais where his desk was. "Good morning again everyone and welcome to Ancient Runes once again." He smiled relaxedly, happy that things were going as planned and as normal as Truebridge and himself always intended them to go so far. "Ancient Runes has become more of a historical study nowadays. Runologists around the world try to decipher the runic inscriptions found on several ancient locations. What we know about Runes and Runic magic enable us to perform our own magic more strongly, bringing new aspects to the regular magical abilities we were graced with.
"There was a time, however, when runes ruled the world. Well, one of the worlds. They were an essential part of the culture and of the magic used in that era. The era of Odin and his... clan." So to speak. "In your textbook, you find a few stories that explain to a certain degree what kind of era that was. Today, instead of telling you a story about Odin and his sons and daughters, I opted we bring that era to life here in this class." The old professor's face lit with excitement at seeing the young ones dressing up as major rune figures.
"The story we're going to play today is How Thor Found His Hammer. We have about six scenes, each scene has three or four characters." He looked around, doing the maths in his head. "I need you all to divide yourselves into six groups, each group with three students. So, come over and stand in lines: each line represents one group that will play one scene." He gestured for them to begin, then he retreated to the blackboard and wrote:

Zhenya beamed as she heard what they were going to be doing today in class. It sounded like so much FUN! Siriusly, this year should be known as 'Year of FUN classes' because so far they had done so many fun activities in classes. They had all been fun, actually. So, today they were going to be playing out How Thor Found His Hammer. AND they got to dress up? Zhenya had a quick think about which group she wanted to be in. She didn't fancy going first, or last, so she chose the second group. No reason in particular. So she stood up towards the front where she thought group 2 would be.

DRAMA CLASS! Jackson couldn't help but excited as Professor Botros explained about what were they gonna do today. He really missed performing at the stage. The last time he did that was at annual Kirin school performance. They played The Three Musketeers and he was D'Artagnan.
The Korean guy then came over and stood in front of the Professor. "I wanna play the scene one. Can I be Loki, Professor?" He asked enthusiastically. Maybe he was the only guy that was very enthusiast about this drama class. Hellooooo, he was from performing arts school. Hehehe.

As more people entered, Lux sent them smiles and waves. This lesson was going to be a lot of fun, she could tell already. It reminded her a lot of Professor Glendower's classes. As Adi joined her, she smiled even more. "Isn't it amazing? I love acting!" Didn't matter that she wasn't very experienced - the important thing was having fun.
They were jumping right to the lesson, and Lux thought that enacting the story of how Thor got his hammer sounded pretty awesome!! As groups of three were being formed, she wondered for a moment where she wanted to go before deciding on group four. She liked the number, so it would be perfect.
Excited, she waited to see who she would be working with.

He usually struggled with Runes, and though he disliked drama from overdoing it in HoM, he supposed this might be his ONLY chance to really do WELL in the subject area. A promising start.
As for his Ravenclaw floor-pal... yeah, getting stepped on would suck, "You could always get them back by tripping them up though..." just a thought. Ahem, but they should get up, yes, and so that's exactly what he did.
...
And it was a good thing he did too, cause LESSON WAS STARTING!!!

After hearing out the instructions, Zeke nodded along and quick-stepped into line. Weeheeheee! Group work!
