Not exciting? Pff. "I am exciting. You just need new tricks." That wasn't her fault. Evie unwrapped her pastry and stepped off to the side of the trolley to get out of the way of the others.
Nibbling on it, she considered his question until her mouth was empty. She was polite, after all. "I'm Evie. I'm fifteen. I was homeschooled by my mom, but it was boring and I don't have any friends." She shrugged.
"Nice to meet you." Kody. She'd have to remember that. He was kinda funny.
"New tricks." Kody scoffed. "Here." He followed her to the side, poured a fair amount of jelly beans into his hand, then held it out for the girl. "Try those. At the same time. Trust me."
He listened to her as she gave him a quick answer to his questions and didn't divulge any other information. He couldn't blame her though, he wasn't very forth-coming with strangers either.
"Nice to meet you too," he said with a slight smile. "I'm fifteen too. From New York." In case she cared. "Where are you from? Around here?"

She was grinning until he handed her a handful of jelly beans. He wanted her to eat them ALL at the same time? Evie stared at the beans with a slightly disgusted look on her face. "That sounds like a terrible idea." No offense.
New York? "My brother used to live there," she commented casually. "Why'd you move here? she asked. At his next question she waited again until she swallowed the next bite of her pastry to answer. "I live in Windermere, by the lake." She didn't know if he knew where that was, but he could ask if he didn't.

"It is." Kody replied with a sharp nod. "But do it. Look." He tossed the handful of beans into his mouth and started chewing, then poured another set into his hand and held it out again. See? He could do it, so he wasn't trying to give her anything bad or something like that. He was a gentleman, thank you very much. When he was done chewing, he nodded again. "It's good. See? Didn't kill me or anything."
Her brother? He wondered how he was supposed to respond to that. There were a lot of people in New York. "You ever been there?" That seemed like a good question. He shrugged at her next question. "It's kind of a long story. Not that kind that you want to hear over jelly beans that you don't trust me enough to eat." He smiled. No big deal.
"Windermere?" He repeated. "I have no idea what that is. Is it in England?"

...... Evie watched him. She still wasn't excited about the idea, but whatever. She'd do it. She grabbed the jelly beans out of his hand and popped them in her mouth. She chewed them a little quicker than normal, making a slightly twisted face as she swallowed them down.
"Eugh," she said with a small shudder, chomping into her pastry again to get rid of the mixed and confused taste of popcorn, apple pie, radishes and earwax who-knows-what-else. "No, you're definitely crazy." It was not good. At all.
Evie shook her head. "Only been out of the UK once." And that was this summer, to go to Egypt with said brother and his best friend. Long story? Evie smiled back at him a little. She DID want to hear it though, but maybe he didn't want to share. Yet. "Maybe another time, then."
She figured. "Yeah, it's way north." If that helped. Probably not.

Kody actually grinned when Evie took the jelly beans... but the grin slowly slipped into a frown at the girl's reaction. "Really?" He looked into the box of beans then back at her. "Sorry." He really had nothing else to say. That usually ended relatively well for him.
"I've only been to the UK once. If you count me moving her as one thing. So we're even." He smiled again. And she was smiling too. She was kind of pretty, to tell the truth... "Maybe another time," he agreed with a nod. Possibly. Who knew.
He nodded slowly. "Yeah... I still have no idea where that is. But cool. Do you like it? You said you live by a lake?"

She had to laugh at his reaction to her reaction. "It's okay." Was he really sorry? It wasn't anything he had to apologize for. She was kind of just being difficult.
Well, that made her even more curious as to why he had moved her, but she had agreed to ask him later if they ever met again. She assumed they would.
Evie smiled again. "It's in the lake district up there... if you know where that is." He seemed like he probably didn't, but it was okay. "Yeah, I like it. It's better than London. It's a lot less busy." Not all the hustle and bustle of a big city. It was quieter. "Yeah, Windermere lake. It's big. I like it a lot. Where do you live?" Did he know that at least?

At this point in the conversation, Kody just had to laugh. "Honestly, Evie, the only thing I know about the UK is London. And words. You guys use words like mate and fancy and snog." That was the extent of his knowledge - everything that Mitchell had told him. And Mitch wasn't exactly the best go-to guy for things like that, as far as Kody knew.
Oh, and now that she had just said that about London... "I live in London. With my cousin. He's been here for a few years now." He shrugged and ate the rest of his chocolate frog from earlier. "It's a lot like New York, honestly. Though it's kind of weird because I actually lived on Long Island, but whatever." He shrugged again.

Evie laughed with him and leaned against the wall of the corridor. So, he knew nothing about England. That was very clear now. "We don't all say those words," she informed him. "And not nearly as much as foreigners seem to think." She probably hadn't said 'mate'... ever. And 'snog' had been uttered from her lips probably twice in her life.
So, London was like New York? Except less American, she assumed naturally. She had no idea what Long Island was so she shrugged. "I know as much about New York as you do about England." FYI.

So. He had only been half-way joking about the word thing, but it was still funny that the girl denied it. Didn't want any stereotypes applied to her, apparently. "Aww. You don't? You just ruined the whole thing, Evie!" Kody grinned and nudged her.
She knew nothing about New York. Well. This was fun. "We're quite the pair, aren't we?" Hmph. He popped another handful of Bertie Bott's beans into his mouth and chewed them thoughtfully. "What do you like? What's your family like? What do you do for fun?" There had to be something interesting going on... something they had in common, right? Because it would be really sad if the first person that Kody met at this new school was someone he'd never see again just because they were so ridiculously different.
Awwww, Eden was being so nice. Maybe Lux had been wrong about the Ravenclaw, though she still got some weird vibes.
Nodding, she knew that it was true her and Bay would still talk and everything would work out. She had no worries about them breaking up due to the long distance. "We got two-way mirrors so we can talk, but this is my first train ride without him." He was the first person she had met while traveling to Hogwarts at the start of her Second Year.
She missed her Lion so much.
Eden nodded. "Two-way mirrors? Are those hard to find?" she asked curiously. She kind of wanted a pair. For.....reasons. Though she didn't even know who'd she give the other to, except Clara, and Clara lived with her for most of the year at Hogwarts.
Aw. That was kind of sad. Eden frown and patted her. "if you have nowhere else to go, you can come to mine." She didn't mind----that much. As long as Lux didn't talk about rainbows and unicorn poop, she'd be okay. And somewhat welcome. "But you're probably sitting with Cinna, right? And Bart?" she asked softly. Cinna and Lux were like bFFS FROM PLANET PERFECT right?

Oh, he was joking. Evie stared at him until he nudged her and then she laughed for real. "Whoops," she said with a small grin.
And then he unloaded some thought-provoking questions on her and she paused to think about them. "Erm... I like a lot of things?" That was a pretty vague question, to be fair. "My family is... interesting. I live with my mum and dad, but I didn't know my dad until, like... five years ago. And that's when I found out I had a half-brother. He's, erm..." she squinted and paused as she thought about his age. "Twenty-three, or something. He's cool." That was one word for him, anyway.
"I was homeschooled up until now," she continued. And then she sighed. "I don't have a lot of fun." Kind of joking, but she wanted to see how he'd take it.

There. She was smiling. So she wasn't too serious, then. That was good to know.
Kody laughed and shook his head a little at her first answer. "Wow. How detailed and specific." That was sarcasm. She kept talking, though, and he didn't want to interrupt. He nodded as Evie talked about her family, his eyes widening slightly when he said she never knew she had a brother that was so much older than her. Huh.
"Well, we're going to have to change that," he decided with a firm nod. "When we get to Hogwarts, you find me again and we'll check the place out together. See what's up with it." Basically, she didn't have a choice. They were friends and he was going to make sure her life was fun. As fun as he could make it, at least.

Evie refrained from rolling her eyes at his sarcasm. "Well, tell me what you like." That way she could know what he was even asking about. She liked being able to breath and the fact that she had hair on her head, but she didn't think that's what he meant.
Evie raised an eyebrow slightly at his proposal. And then... smiled again. "Okay," she said with a nod. "It's a deal." They would find each other at the castle and go exploring and find something cool. That sounded like fun to her.
"What about you? What's your family like?" His turn.
