Stepping into the arena, you are immediately enveloped with the light shining into the room, either morning or evening depending on what time you decide to enter. If you can tear your gaze away from the intricately designed windows and high ceilings could, you can see to the very right of the room, there is the long platform in which supervised duels will take place while four benches on either side are placed at a safe distance for those who would like to sit and watch. Just ahead of the platform in the right corner, there is a door, though pay no attention to it. It's locked for a reason.
Towards the back wall, there are various types of practice dummies, both stationary and moving, depending on what difficulty the practicer wants. Don't be afraid to go all out with your spells, for these dummies are charmed to repair themselves. There is one practice dummy set aside that will shoot spells back to the practicer, however, permission from a Professor is required to use it. To the left side of the arena are two sets of stands, eight seats high, that look out to the entire arena, comfortable for those who would just like to watch what's going on all around or for general purposes such as studying or relaxing after a long day in the arena.
The middle of the room is quite empty, due to the fact that the defense Professor enjoys presenting lessons in here, but please, despite the brilliant light that shines through the arena due to the large windows, it is not some place to sunbathe or fall asleep. You will be levitated out with a good dose of cold water splashed on you if caught.
Cutty heard the voice of a Hufflepuff whose name he did not know. Stopping his stretches, he turned to see the tall blonde boy enter wearing a smile as he eased into the room. He was not surprised nor suspicious by the fact that the Hufflepuff knew his name. It was no secret that Cutty sold a number of things moste useful to the student body and word got around.
Shortly, thereafter they were joined by Kenji Hirase...who it would appear knew the Hufflepuff's name...or not. Unless his parents either hated him a great deal or were very realistic to the point of apathy towards their child's life success. Cutty assumed this to be a term of endearment between the two boys and more so when the Hufflepuff responded in kind. He returned the headnod greeting to Kenji.
They were dueling? Well, best to have our wands out, then. "That's exactly why I came here." He said confirming his agreement to duel. "Locomotor Mortis!", he said firing off the first spell toward the Hufflepuff who had invited him to duel. The propriety and formality absent in his manner as he preferred courses of action toward discussion over courses of action.
As Kace was being distracted by Kevin and he was thinking of spells to use against him and Cutty, he heard a spell being casted. He thought it was being casted at Kevin but apparently Cutty aimed at him. Then he felt his legs become stiff and they were stuck together. With his eyes wide he nodded at the Slytherin. Well played Slytherin well played. He managed to get his wand out and fired back..."Colloshoo!" He hoped Cutty's feet would stick to the ground with this spell. He was going easy on him for now.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Moron? He knew that Kace had more up his sleeve than just THAT comeback. So he raised an eyebrow before rolling his eyes. He saw Cutty nodding back at him and climbed up on the dueling platform , ready to display some awesome kind of magi---
"YA!!!!!" The Gryffindor's already deep voice shouted through the dueling arena as he ducked down between the two spells that Kace and Cutty were using against each other. He looked up again while shielding his head with his arms as if that would work and GLARED at the two guys.
"I'm the YOUNGEST here and I know MORE about dueling than you two!?" Amateurs! "Start with bowing to your opponent GOSH!" Just to be sure, he too grabbed his Phoenix wand but didn't point it at anyone yet. "Now, undo the spells and lets start over properly, got that!?" there he went again, commanding older students what to do.
Oh and was he going to listen to his own words? heh no. He was waiting for a chance.

Kace saw that Kevin was arching his eyebrow at him at his comeback. He gave him a what are you looking at face and he saw him roll his eyes. He did have a better comeback but he couldn't say it here with people around. So I guess he was gonna watch him duel with Cutty. Now he would have more ammunition if he lost but he didn't care. He wanted to play a fair game. After they both dueled he heard someone yell at him.
He turned around and noticed Kevin was standing there and he did make a good point. I mean they needed to bow to each other first how could he be so blind but then again Cutty immediately conjured the first spell so it was his first spell. "Well in my defense I was just protecting myself against Cutty. He didn't bow first.." he gestured to him. He was fine with starting over though. "I am ready to start over if Cutty is.." he said looking at the Slytherin.

Was he getting an early start on the DADA homework? Why, yesh, Adi was. Actually, how early he started depended on when his partner got there. She was known to be late at times. "She's lucky I'm so patient with her,'' he thought fondly as he examined the dummies. He always thought of them as fascinating.
As for the spells he needed to practice, Adi had already chosen the five. Admittedly it had taken him a while to make the selections since he had already had sufficient practice with quite a few of them over the course of times he had done duels with his friends.

So this was going to be interesting.
Benny had done duels before but not with a girl....especially not his girlfriend. Not that he thought Angel or any girl for that matter was really all that different. But still. His dueling partner in question had a way about her and one could only imagine how it might work in this arena.
He had pushed the thoughts aside as he made his way down to the defense classroom and into the nearby dueling arena. Thankfully it was quiet and free of any other students working on the homework given out by the headmistress. It was also free of Angel which meant he was the first to arrive. Granted, after the class he was wary of an empty room but he didn't see the third year as being adept in vanishing spells. And who else would be randomly hiding out there?
"Revelio..." Benny cast anyway, using the spell he had shown in the lesson himself. When nothing was shown, he relaxed and awaited his companion.

Angel walked towards the duelling area, this was going to be totally amazing and she hoped that things would go really well, the five spell she was going to practice were already decided on and now she was just going to have to hope her boyfriend was good with wands otherwise things would get really bad fast because she wasn't going easy on anyone, no matter how much they begged her too.
Angel giggled as she walked towards the room but then that stopped as she saw that only one person was in the room. "Hello." Angel had her wand already out. Now she had to think of something that only the really Benny would know about her. "What fake tattoo did I get at the festival last summer?" Angel looked at him, she wasn't moving a step closer until he told her the answer.

He heard a presence come into the room and as Benny turned, he spotted Angel coming towards him. However her wand was raised at him which brought him up short for a few moments. "Angel..." he said confused, especially when she asked him a seemingly random question until he realized it was her attempt to follow through with the previous lesson's message. Be caucious of your surroundings.
"Um..." Benny started to say, trying to think back to the summer so he knew the answer to her posed inquiry. When it clicked in his head, he almost hit himself for it was a rather obvious option . "A dragon," he finally answered relaxing. The choice had been a representation of him for her to keep...even temporarily.

Angel looked at Benny and smiled. "Sorry, I had to double check after everything that the headmistress said." Angel still felt really sorry about Professor Flamsteed but the head was the head and could do what she wanted right.
Angel gave Benny a small hug as an apology but she had to be careful because you never knew what or who might impersonate the person that you loved. "You are correct." Angel thought about the duel that they were going to be involved in. "No going easy on me."

Normally the dueling arena was a place that Lux never set foot since she wasn't big on fighting; since this was for homework and - more importantly - personal safety she was gladly making an exception given the current circumstances.
Eden had agreed to work with her, and Lux patiently waited for her friend to arrive so that they could have some fun without hurting each other. Since there were some spells that she was not familiar with on the list given in class, she had a lot to work with and already had a good idea of what she would practice.
While she waited, she decided to do some stretches in order to make her as alert as possible as well as give her something to do in the meantime.

Anywaaay. Where was AJ?
Crap. She was late. It really was the story of her life. It seemed like only minutes had passed when she was in her common room nomming on some sour patch kids with her feet kicked up, but that was not the case. When she had checked the time, she was already ten minutes late. AJ rushed down to the arena in record time and made her way inside.
She was still snacking on her sour treats because she was NOT going to let that go to waste. Chew, chew, smack. Ah, there he was. Of course he was on time. "Sup?" she asked all casually; like a student hadn't died, and this was just another normal day.

Good thing the answer was good enough for Angel as she smiled in response and apologized for her behavior. "It's alright," Benny assured her since it hadn't been a bad thing, or something that really bothered him. He returned the offered hug as if to confirm there really was no hard feelings between them, simply nodding as she confirmed in turn that he had been correct with his answer.
As for the return to the activity at hand, he had to admit her instructions made him think again on what he had been thinking before she got there. "Of course," he said, giving in to her request as he stepped away from her. Benny didn't want her getting upset that he wasn't playing fair. He was supposed to be trying his best to learn and practice the spells in question. Making a bow in true dueling fashion, the older Gryffindor paused just long enough to slip his wand out and to pick which spell to use before actually casting.
"Confundo" His wand moving in a hooking motion as he aimed at Angel.

WHAT was that smacking sound? O__O
Adi turned away from the dummy to find his girlfriend had FINALLY arrived. His face automatically lit up as it usually did when he laid eyes on her. "Hi, AJ.'' He noticed she was chewing on something. Of course she was. Nothing ever came between her and food... or whatever it was that she was eating.
"You all set?" he asked, approaching her and leaning in to kiss her cheek just because he wanted to do that. Hehe. Anywaaay, he shuffled back so that he could put a bit of distance between himself and AJ. This wasn't reallllly a duel, right? Was the bow necessary? Eh... Adi made one all the same.
Annnnd he was all set to start! "Incarcerous!'' Adi pointed his wand at AJ. Was he worried about the rope or cord hurting her? Duh, of course he was but he also knew his girlfriend was a super tough girl and she wouldn't want the fact that he was her boyfriend to stop him from using the spell on her.

While she waited, she decided to do some stretches in order to make her as alert as possible as well as give her something to do in the meantime.
Eden slid into the arena, her blue eyes not....wide or shiny or anything. She was in a mood and was kind of...well, not that she was in a bad mood, but she felt so short right now. Short as in, short of temper. Eden usually wasn't even one to snap easily--unless it was a moody time--like right now. And when she saw Lux stretching, she raised an eyebrow. "Why are you stretching? Literally no use for that." she said, rolling her eyes a bit as she dropped her bag off against one of the walls.
She didn't know a lot of the spells..and even then, she couldn't do many of them, either. So the Ravenclaw had made a list of all of the spells she needed to work on..but prioritized to what she thought was most important to least important. She had the top five at the TOP of the list, obviously...and in a different color. She also had them all color coded by the type of defensive spell, too--Merlin.
Since when did Eden become SO Ravenclaw? She couldn't ever remember being this organized...or caring this much. It was a very odd feeling.
Pulling out her notebook, she flipped to the page where she had all the spells listed. "All right..tell me five you have in common with me..." she said as she held out her notebook to Lux. "So we're not practicing aaaaallll damn day." Because that would be annoying. And Eden had other things to do.......like feed Daisy...and...eat candy.

SPOILER!!: Eden's Notes:
SO Maybe Eden was being dramatic in thinking she needed to practice ALL the spells..but really...she felt like it was a lot ;____;
...Well, Lux could tell that Eden was in a mood by that greeting alone. Raising her brow, the redhead proceeded to arch her back slightly as she stretched her arms over her head. It was no matter since she knew Eden really couldn't help what she said while grumpy. Besides, maybe all she needed was some candy.
Done with stretching, she glanced at the list her friend had made and couldn't help but find it cute how totally Ravenclaw the whole thing was. "Tarantellegra and the last four," she said with a nod. It was a slight change in plans but if Eden wanted to stick with these ones, so be it. Lux needed the practice with them and it wasn't like she wouldn't get the chance to work on the others at some other point.
She felt the need for constant vigilance now more than ever.

Eden felt a little more at ease as SOON as Lux started talking. Sigh. Girl had a soothing voice or something. "Ugh. Patronus..ugh." She SIGHED. "I can't produce one for the life of me--but we can certainly try." Eden felt like she wasn't happy enough of a person to ever produce a real patronus...
She took her notebook back and circled the ones they had decided to do. "All right. Let's start with Tarentellegra. And I think we should practice on dummies because I don't really wanna' practice on you...at least...not this one..." she said softly. "Now.." She peeked at her notes. "The wand movement for this is kind of difficult..so..." she dropped her notebook next to her with a SMACK on the ground and sighed. "It kind of goes like..this.." and she did the...really weird motion---kind of resembling a zigzag, then a straight line..than another zigzag..."Yeah?" She asked Lux, feeling all....older and stuff right now.

The sound of him breathing in and out as Hirase roared out an order. "Finite!", Cutty said whipping his wand at his shoe and freeing himself of the half-turn blues. Cutty thought to free Kace of his jinx as well, but considered that pointing his wand at him before the customary introductories would be counter-productive. Plus, the boy was capable of doing it himself.
It surprised Cutty that Hirase would point out the formalities, but maybe there was something in that. Gryffindors. He didn't have many enemies amongst them and he admired their energy. Boundless and fearless. It was so, so useful. It was a perfect opportunity to test Hirase's utility too in the semi-controlled environment of the Hogwarts dueling arena.
Although, he said nothing, the Slytherin held his wand firmly to his side and bowed toward the duelists to show he was ready to begin. For real this time.
Text Cut: For Julia/Soph, DADA HW Timeline
It was one of those moments that Cutty had timed perfectly. His stomach was neither full nor empty and his potion was in the waning phase with just enough potency to keep him from doing anything stupid, yet allowed for sharp unhesitating reaction. Mordaunt had done it on purpose. He looked down at the crinkled parchment and considered the spells he could've been perfect on as he waited like a spider for anything to get stuck or blown into the dueling arena.

Eden couldn't produce a Patronus either? It made Lux feel a little better to know that she wasn't alone. "I've never been successful; I don't even know what form mine would take." Maybe she would finally be able to create one soon if not today.
The idea to practice Tarentellegra on dummies was met with a nod. That would be allowed, right? The Headmistress hadn't told them that it couldn't be done and it seemed that Eden didn't want to practice that spell on her. "That sounds great to me." Curiously she watched as the older girl demonstrated the wand movement. Huh. That looked rather complex and got an eyebrow raise.
Trying her best to imitate what Eden had done, Lux performed the wand movement while thinking she probably looked pretty silly. "That good?" Were they ready to practice it?

Puck was simply leaning against the doorway as she looked into the dueling arena. Even though she hadn’t been in the class because well HELLO who wanted to be near Truebridge too much? She honestly kind of scared the normally unshakeable girl.
Her perfectly (because lets face it when where they ever not perfect?) sculpted eyebrow raised as she watched Kevin, Kace, and Cutty dueling? “What are you guys working on?” She asked as she peeled herself off of the wall and took a few deliberate steps toward the boys in question...speaking of which this was the first time she'd even been around Kevin since the happenings on the sixth floor corridor.

Her hand holding that of Tobias Fuller-Thompson, Sophie entered the dueling arena, her wand already out in her free hand and her game face ON.
No, Sophie Brown was not a coward. She just knew that there was power in numbers, okay? And she liked that Tobes would have her back and kick the snot out of Cutty Mordaunt if he tried to give her more nightmares. Well... she had never SEEN that kind of aggressive side of her best friend, but she had high hopes that he would snap the Slytherin like a twig if he intentionally hurt her. So. There was that.
At the sight of her dueling partner today, she gave the Hufflepuff's arm a squeeze, offered him a smile, then crossed the room toward Cutty. "Hi, best friend." She still got a kick out of that greeting, no matter how little she trusted the guy, and smiled unwaveringly as she twisted her wand around in her hands. "How are you?" It wasn't meant to be small talk - it was her sizing up her opponent, really, and getting a read on his present mental state.

Eden watched the Hufflepuff curiously and nodded. "Yeah--that's the right movement--you got it just--try to be more sharp about it," she said kindly. Hmph. The Ravenclaw certainly felt....like a Ravenclaw today. For now. All it would take was one wrong spell, movement, or mishap, and Eden's confidence would swirl down the drain. It was motivation to keep on top of things and stay....perfect.
She haaaardly performed perfectly, thugh, and the inward battle of "but you're Eden and not perfect so deal with it" and "you want to be GOOD at things--just be GOOD at them" began. She shook her head, though, and cleared her throat. "Right."
"Yeah--let me--" she went to set up the dummies across from them. "The spell is..Tarentellegra...it can be kind of a tongue twister so..just say it aloud before you cast it." She smirked as she swept back over to Lux. "I'll go first--I've actually NEVER tried this spell before--" and the affects were so AMUSING.
AHEM.
Doing the motion, she smirked as she said, "Tarentellegra!" The spell shot from the end of her wand and whizzed straight for the dummy. Eden blinked, and soon...her dummy was dancing away.....
Rubbing the end of her wand on her robe, trying not to be SMUG at all..."You try, now, Lux. Come on! You got it. It's not too hard."

Rubbing the end of her wand on her robe, trying not to be SMUG at all..."You try, now, Lux. Come on! You got it. It's not too hard."
Smiling, Lux took note of the constructive criticism. Trying the wand movement again, she made the motions sharper than before. Repeating them over and over again she watched as the dummies were set up. Hehe, this was going to be fuuuun.
Watching Eden make her dummy dance, Lux applauded her. Excellent for a first attempt and she herself had never performed the spell before either. First things first she practiced the wand movement a few more times, then she moved on to the incantation. It certainly WAS quite the tongue twister, but after a bit she managed to get the pronunciation down.
Sending the wand movement towards her dummy, the redhead called out, "Tarantallegra!!"
WOOOO!!
IT WORKED!!!!
Happily she began to dance along with the dummies. "I got it on my first try!! Are you sure you don't want to practice it on each other? The dummies look like they are having fun." Haha, just look at them go.
Toby was not entirely sure what he was doing here. Well, no, that was a lie. Soph had wanted him here for, like, moral support or something, while she worked with Cutty.
He didn't really understand her suspicion, or her hesitance about the Slytherin, not being the kind of person who knew what it was like to distrust someone. But she'd wanted him here, and so here he was. Toby may not have fully understood, but he knew that Soph was always around for him when he needed her, and of course he'd always do the same.
Once they got there, Toby returned Soph's smile. He unlinked his arm from hers though, and hung back so they could get started without him all up in their business. He could be present from afar, after all.
In any case, Toby still had a tendency to think back and get a little sad about certain Cutty related things. But, not wanting to try and force any sort of friendship, he found it easier to sort of... keep his distance. Even if it would have been nice to have his friend back like before.
But huh. Seeing as he was here, it wouldn't hurt to get his own spell practice out of the way. Toby had been intending to practice on a dummy, as he straight-up didn't want to risk hurting anyone else or anything, but as he looked around he noted that not many people were going for that option. As a sixth year, it was probably expected of him to partner up with someone.
What to do. What to doooooo. Toby stood deliberating for a moment, twirling his wand between his fingers and keeping back out of the way of any duelling pairs, making sure to be vigilant and all that as he tried to make up his mind.

Eden watched as Lux gave the spell a shot. She kind of expected the girl to get it right. Lux wasn't stupid.....most times. She smiled and clapped when the dummy began to dance. Eden waved her wand--"Finite--" she said softly, and her dummy stopped dancing instantly. "Um--sure--we can--I suppose--" she said softly. "But...remember to say FINITE because if not I'll be stuck dancing--"
And that...would be terrible.
Also, Eden thought this a good time to sneak attack Lux, so she suddenly cried--"TARENTELLEGRA!" at her, the spell shooting off at the young redhead...
Well. Headmistress Truebride DID say they needed to work on their....reflexes. And....ahem. Yeah.

Awesome, they would practice the spell on each other.
Beaming, Lux used Finite to stop her dummy's dancing even though it looked like it was having a lot of fun. As she turned to face Eden, she found herself suddenly dancing... Wow, talk about sneak attack. Mentally kicking herself over the whole lack of constant vigilance thing, she tried her best to aim the spell right back but it was hard to when her feet wouldn't stop moving. UGH!!!
The first three attempts zoomed past Eden, but she was determined to make a hit and the dancing was an added challenge that she was more than willing to take on. Lux did not give up that easily. "TARANTALLEGRA!!" Haha, take that.

"TOBY!!!!!!!!"
YES HELLO DID HE SEE HER??????
Maggie was WAVING and stuff. From the other side of the room. In case he HADN'T seen her, she was now walking towards him. Avoiding the dueling students obviously. She really did NOT want her hair to go green or something. Because ew. Nope. So no accidental spells cast on her okay? Yes thank.
"Hiiiii!" She beamed at him once she was close enough. There was a wand in his hand. Hey, there was a wand in HER hand too. TWIIIIINNSSS. "What are you doing here?" Hmm?? Not dueling. She could see THAT.
