The Eagles sit under a brand new navy and bronze banner representing their house. Their solid, shiny wooden table is nicely polished with all the place settings perfectly set. It was once said that the Hogwarts House Elves are the best in the world. It is up to your stomach to agree... but surely it will! Why wouldn't it like elf cooking?
If you're thirsty, there is also fresh pumpkin juice and water on the table, regardless of whether or not it is actually mealtime.
Ariel had no trouble waking up at a reasonable time this morning, despite it being the first day after a summer of sleeping in. Last night, she'd kept to herself despite the party going on in the Common Room, hidden behind the curtains of her new bed, hugging her stuffed koala, and crying herself to sleep. Yesterday had been full of more new things than she could handle and the alone time was desperately needed.
She woke up with a new determination to take on this school year. And to understand. After getting all dressed in her uniform, Ariel took a pen and parchment with her to breakfast. She filled a plate with eggs and hashbrowns, and wrote away.

Sophie started out the term with a BANG.
Not a literal one this term, but she got right into the swing of things with ease - her morning run had gone swimmingly, the smell of the Hogwarts showers were electrifying to her senses, and she just felt READY for a new day and a new term full of adventures and new friends and new experiences and all the fun.
As chipper as could be, Soph arrived to breakfast fully dressed, smelling good, and looking good - there was still a little flush of pink in her cheeks from her run, and she looked ready to take on the world. She had to leave CB behind because her best friend was way too kind and sweet and wanted to stay back and make sure all the first years and transfers felt like they knew where they were going, so, with a starving stomach from having worked out, she made her way toward the Ravenclaw table alone, scoping out the present faces for someone to sit with -
Perfect.
Very casually slipping into the seat beside the quiet girl, Ariel, Soph helped herself to perhaps too large of portions of scrambled eggs, potatoes, and bacon, then very calmly proceeded to snatch up two pieces of toast and work on constructing a sandwich of the breakfast foods.
"You a writer, Ariel? Or just journaling about how this school is crazy and your peers are dumb and started a fight the very first night?" Soph wasn't looking at the fourth year's notebook, very polite of her and all, and was very casual in her tone - she suspected that attention in general made the girl uncomfortable, so she was trying her best to not be a totally scary older cool girl.

Which she totally was. Eh hem.
Ariel gave a glance to the new arrival the moment they sat down. It was Sophie Brown, the talkative one, and she sat close enough that surely Ariel would be the victim again. But to her pleasure, Sophie took a while loading her plate with breakfast. Long enough to mentally prepare for the conversation anyway.
And when she was spoken to, Ariel giggled softly. "Both, actually," she answered. Another glance went to the older girl....who had very strange eating habits. She took a bite of her own eggs, then kept writing. There was a LOT to say about the past twenty hours.

Oh, yeah? "That's cool." Kid of many words, this one was.
Soph didn't mind too much.
She continued constructing her sandwich, with eggs as the base layer and potatoes on top, then three strips of bacon laid neatly across the top. Nicely smushing the other piece of toast on top of everything and not hesitating to take a large bite of the sandwich, Sophie chewed and hummed thoughtfully. Nice to have a classic Hogwarts breakfast like this, she thought, and she would've verbalized the thought if her mouth wasn't full. It was very polite of her to resist making that kind of small talk, she knew, and chewed for awhile longer - it was a big mouthful - before deciding to speak again.
"It's not so bad, Hogwarts. I love it, actually. S'my favorite place in the world. Weird stuff's gonna happen sometimes, like y'saw last night, but it'll be okay. All the good stuff makes up for those kind of occurrences." She took another large bite of her sandwich and successfully resisted the urge to peek at Ariel's notebook.
But she really wanted to know if the girl was writing anything about her.

"Mhm." But It wasn't so cool, really. She was writing to her dad and it was very hard to convey the trauma without sounding like she wanted to go home immediately. She only sort of wanted that. A larger part wanted to stay and find out if last night was like every day or not.
She opened her mouth to ask Sophie something, but the other girl was chewing..and humming? That was....disgusting. But the that must be what happens when you aren't eating with your parents all the time. And building breakfast sandwiches. Then, when Sophie finished, and Ariel got the courage to try to talk again, she started up. It was okay, though, since it kind of went with what Ariel wanted to say anyway. "So...that lady that was here last night - the one talking to everyone," the ghostly looking one, "She's not usually around?"

Hogwarts food was VERY missed by Sophie - she was thoroughly enjoying her breakfast very much, and, with how quickly it was disappearing, it showed. She wasn't particularly gross about it, though - she chewed with her mouth closed and didn't talk when there was food in her mouth either, but she was definitely still devouring her sandwich like she hadn't eaten in weeks.
She made a mental note to offer her compliments to the house elves. They knew how to treat them well.
Hmmm? The lady talking to everyone? Sophie had to stop and pause, then chewed slowly and swallowed as she processed the previous night's happenings - who had been a lady at the table? Tanner had been there, and Murdoch, too, but... was there... someone else...?
Oh. Right. Soph remembered how Ariel had completely shied away from the Grey Lady, which had NOT made the house ghost happy at all. Hahahaha. "No, no, she's around, but not super actively - that's the Grey Lady, Helena Ravenclaw. She's the daughter of Rowena Ravenclaw. Our house ghost, obviously. She's awful. The first time she ever met me when I was a first year, she told me I had bad posture when I don't." So rude. "And she always gets on my case about not being lady-like enough. Why should I be lady-like? Why do I have to conform to what SHE thinks I should be like? Why can't I just be myself, y'know? She's so bossy. Guess that's all y'can really do when you're a ghost. Must be boring and y'gotta find stuff to keep you entertained and give y'purpose."
After a moment, Sophie took a quick glance around the Great Hall to make sure the transparent woman wasn't around or coming their way. Eh hem. "I avoid her as much as I can. S'best to do that, I'd say."

Pen hovering over her notebook, Ariel's gaze was fixed on Sophie. She talked A LOT. So much that it was almost hard to keep up, to absorb and process all the information. Yet, she was very informational, which was seen as an asset to the new girl.
So the lady from last night was, in fact, a ghost. Who although contradicted the stories Ariel was more familiar with, still wasn't a very nice ghost...person...ghost. But that she was Rowena Ravenclaw's daughter was extremely interesting. The ghost must be very very old, then. "That's fascinating," she replied, in awe. "I...didn't know about ghosts. They weren't in what I read. Or my old textbooks...that we covered..." Maybe they were in there somewhere. Why hadn't she thought to scour them last night?
"Can I ask more?" Because Ariel had PLENTY of questions and wanted to make sure Sophie didn't have big plans to run off to her friends before classes today.

With her sandwich gone, Sophie nudged her plate away from her and drank water deeply from her goblet as Ariel processed her information and responded. That was... interesting, though, that the girl didn't know about ghosts. Was she Muggleborn, then, who had attended a school without ghosts? Or was she homeschooled and her parents had done an awful job of teaching her things before she came to Hogwarts? Had the girl not read Hogwarts, A History? Maybe Soph needed to nudge her toward reading that book in depth. It had been her favorite during her first year, after all.
She refrained for now.
"You can ask me anything you'd like. M'sure I'll have an answer." A good one, at that. Sophie had an opinion about everything and was more than happy to share it with the new girl, especially if it would help ease her worries.

Her eyes flicked between Sophie's now empty plate, and her still mostly full plate. Slowly, she set down her pen, closed her notebook, and picked up her fork. Shouldn't let the food go cold. Besides, she felt more comfortable eating after seeing how Sophie devoured her food. She would use a fork, at least.
Ariel broke her egg yolk and watched it pool around the whites while she thought of where to begin. "How...," she got out eventually, "does the wall at King's Cross work?"

Oh... uh...
Sophie didn't know.
Not the exact logistics, at least, but she put on a smile anyway then drank some more water to stall and think about the best answer she could give this nice girl who was so eager to learn - uhhhhh? Well. She wouldn't lie to her. "Magic," she replied with a grin, then elaborated further, "but I've never given it extensive thought. I mean... it's just how it's charmed to be, y'know? I mean, there's plenty of things in the wizarding world that seem super wonky - that platform, apparating, flying on a broomstick - s'just the wonders of magic. Really powerful magic."
It probably wasn't the best answer, but... Soph tried to help further. "If y'want, we could go to the library and see Mr. Kitridge later. M'sure he has a book that'll explain it better." If she wanted to.

Abby was hungry and she stopped by her house table for a bite to eat she was happy even though she hadnt seen Tyler lately she was still in love with him and she hoped that she would meet some new people soon
Noel had things on his mind and he needed his cousin. Taking a seat at the ravenclaw table, the fourteen year old waited for Hayley to appear. It had been a while since they had breakfast together. They needed to catch up on things. Self indulgent he maybe at times, but he was concerned he was losing touch with the only best friend he had growing up. He wasn't sure what was she up to these days. Granted he had been dealing things on his own but that was no excuse to not know why was Hayley so MIA.
He poured himself some milk and then pulled out his notebook. Maybe he could do some writing while waiting.

Hayley was.. frazzled, to say the least. Why? Merlin only knew, really. That was the only way to describe how she'd been feeling lately, and even she didn't know why - or want to get into the why's of it. It had nothing to do with time, though, because despite her hurrying, it was still early. Very early, and her house table was practically empty still.
Minus a handful of students, one, in his robes of yellow and black stood out the most of course. Pausing near the end of the table as she spotted him, it only took a moment for the fourth year to make her way toward him, tossing her bag under the bench before plopping down beside him. And no, Tulip was not hiding inside her school bag today, obviously.
In one quick motion, Hayley reached for the pitcher of pumpkin juice, grey-blue eyes casting a sideways look at her cousin. "Hi."

As soon as his cousin slipped beside him, Noel closed his notebook and tossed in his bag. Turning his body entirely in her direction - Noel got straight to the point: "Whats wrong?" Because there was something definitely wrong.
"Do not bother hiding it because I have known you since we were in diapers. So spill" he said making clear that she could not fool him with excuses. "Is it homework? Are you missing home?" He tried - he was just really eager to know. "Is it girl drama?" he added, making a weird face.
OR WORSE.
"Is it boys?" Ugh.

The next Hayley opened her mouth, it was going to be about the notebook. What was he writing. Songs, or something else? But obviously, OBVIOUSLY, Noel was a step or two ahead of her. Blinking big grey-blue eyes, the Ravenclaw remained silent as the interrogation began.
Homework. Home. Girls. Boys. Yup, that about covered it, didn't it? And diapers, Merlin. Noel would bring that up. Once she had successfully poured the juice into her glass and set the pitcher aside, Hayley turned slightly as well to face her cousin, though the look on her face begged to question whether or not he had just grown a second head on his shoulders. "What are you, a mind-reader now?" It was those Divination classes, wasn't it? Professor Morgan putting things in his head. "Good morning to you, too."
In all seriousness, it had surprised her - but in a pleasant sort of way, - how well Noel knew her. Knew her probably better than she knew herself, really. "All of the above, actually." She answered, finally, quietly. A slight flush crept into her cheeks, and the fourth year swept a loose lock of brown hair from her face. Yes, homework was becoming a bit overwhelming, and yes she missed home - though that would only last a little while longer, what with Christmas break coming so soon. "Am I that obvious?"

Eden had gone for an early morning jog. She was dressed warmly, at least, with earmuffs to match, and a scarf and ALL that fun wintery stuff. Being back at the castle was good because she felt much less lazy here. Panting slightly, she slipped into the Great Hall for a quick bite before going to wake up Clara and Layla by jumping on their beds.
WHEE.
Weekends were NICE. But it was getting later, now, at least as far as breakfast standards go, and she thought her girls should be AWAKE.
Plopping down into a chair, her cheeks flushed from the cold, she grabbed the nearest drink--not caring what--and downed it in.......three seconds.
The thirst was real. But like, actual thirst. For drink.
"Where's the bloody food--" she mumbled to herself, pulling off her earmuffs and letting her brown hair flood her shoulders.

Kyroh LOVED Hogwarts. He really really did. But he was sorta sad to not be home anymore. He didn't like missing stuff and it was like he was missing SO many things that was going on back home. Like Jade was so much bigger now. When had that happened? Though if he was still at home he'd miss his friends HERE and just- there were a LOT of things to miss. Too many for his liking.
Sitting up properly, Kyroh reached for his goblet when all of a sudden it was snatched from the table. Blinking the third year turned to face the person who had just sat down and stolen his drink- and froze.
Oh.
Eden.
He stared at her, like a deer caught in headlights before clearing his throat. "That was....sort of mine." Only sort of though. Y'know?

Eden hadn't noticed.
She did notice the biiiig plate of eggs nearby that no one had actually claimed and pulled them towards her. She was so HUNGRY. Merlin's PANTS, she was hungry. And then--
Oops.
Eden widened her eyes--"KYROH!" she cried, and she almost died. "I drank your--oh--I'M SO SORRY."Don'thateme."I didn't know it was yours. I'm sorry--um--let me--I'll go find you--" she stood up to look for another goblet of pumpkin juice.
SHE DIDN'T WANT KYROH TO RUN AWAY AGAIN. What if he ran away. SHE DIDN'T LIKE THAT!!!11! Not at all. So she FOUND a goblet of pumpkin juice and slid it towards the younger 'claw. "H-here-" she was out of breath again. Merlin. She hadn't ran at all over the holidays. That was why. "Soooorry." Again.

Flinching as she yelled his name Kyroh blinked, still VERY confused as he watched her. She didn't have to apologize! It was okay! He'd give her more of her juice if she wanted it! Though technically he didn't have any more cause she drank it all but still! "I-It-I don't" He couldn't get another word out before Eden got up and bolted away.
Shoulders shrinking, Kyroh turned back to his plate. He shouldn't have said ANYTHING. But just as quickly as she had ran off she RETURNED. With another goblet that she placed in front of him. Peering at it for a second, Kyroh took a deep breath and pushed it toward Eden. He could talk to her okay? It wasn't weird or anything. She was just like a normal person. "It's okay. I don't like pumpkin juice that much anyways. And I think you like it so you can have mine!"
Okay? "Do you want some toast too?" With the eggs. Yeah? He didn't give her any time to answer before pushing his food in her plate. Though his stomach gave a little grumble in protest.

Eden didn't notice his stuttery-ness. Or his......weirdness in general. It was just Kyroh being...Kyroh, right? She chuckled a little when he said he didn't like pumpkin juice. "Kyyyyyroh." She accented the 'Y' sound. "I don't want you to be THIRSTY." she said, giving him a look. "You--come on--" she was feeling guilty for drinking his drink.
He had to accept this drink or she'd continue feeling guilty.
GET THE HINT, KYROH.
As she shoveled some of her eggs into her mouth, she shook her head--"No--I dobn't--" oh.
There was his toast. On her plate.
Sigh.
"Kyroh--you don't have to give me your toast.." she said after swallowing. She was staring at him curiously. "Are you feeling okay?" she asked, touching his head with the back of her hand like her Mam did when she had a fever.

"Kyroh--you don't have to give me your toast.." she said after swallowing. She was staring at him curiously. "Are you feeling okay?" she asked, touching his head with the back of her hand like her Mam did when she had a fever.
Eden was speaking like Dot. Dot did that. Drew out his name. Though he didn't know why. Was it suppose to make him listen and pay attention? If so, he was ALREADY paying attention okay Eden? It was hard not to. She had pretty eyes. They were the bluest things in the whole wide world. And Kyroh didn't even like blue that much. Maybe he would have liked blue more if all the blue in the world was like Eden's eyes?
"I'm okay. Really. I promise." He hadn't even been all that thirsty in the first place. PROMISE OKAY?
He was just helping and stuff and-oh.
The corners of his lips tugged downwards as she sighed. Was he doing something wrong?
....He was only trying to help.....
Dropping his gaze to the table, Kyroh was just about to scoot away from Eden when her hand suddenly was on his face. Or forehead. Though that was still his face. His stomach did an unfamiliar flip as he gazed back up at her.
Was he feeling okay?
Hmm.
Hmmm...
Raising his hand he scratched the back of his head. "Not really no." It wasn't good to lie.

Eden chowed down on her eggs and....she raised an eyebrow at the toast. To eat the toast. To not. Hmm. What if he was starving and he was just giving up his toast because he thought he needed to be a gentleman with her? Kyroh was interesting like that. "Here--have one piece back--" she compromised and set it down on his plate with a smile.
However, she did drink the pumpkin juice because she felt so parched. "Sorry--I went for a run earlier and--I'm apparently--" her mouth was full of toast at this point--"Apparently lof't all 'by ability to run--" and she swallowed. "Well."
Full of manners.
Pulling her hand away, she stared at him worriedly. "You didn't feel warm--hmm--maybe we should get you upstairs--did you eat somethin' funny? Do ya' have a cold?" she asked gently, her instinct kicking in. "Maybe you should eat some soup--bundle up in bed--" his cheeks looked quite flushed right now. Oh dear. "I...I would say to see the healer but--" she shook her head. "She's too scary."

He got one back?
But she kept one. Which means he DIDN'T do anything wrong! Grinning Kyroh reached for the piece of bread and took a bite. Nodding enthusiastically he swallowed what was in his mouth before speaking again.
"I don't really know what you just said Eden but i'll just pretend that you were practicing your Welsh."
Her hand had been on his face for a bit. But it was gone now. And that was sorta sad. "I didn't eat anything funny." He stated, just a bit deflated. Not anything funny that he remembered at least.....Nope. The third year shook his head before taking another bite of the toast. Cold? Nope. Soup? Bundle up in bed? Each of these suggestions earned their own Kyroh Scabior head shake. "She's not that bad! I spent lots of time in the Hospital Wing last term because of Dragon Pox." He shrugged. "It didn't turn me into a dragon or anything but it taught me that her bite isn't as bad as her bark....mostly because she didn't bite me or anything." Man, if she had bitten him that would have probably given him Healer Pox or something of that sort.
Maybe THATS what Eden was scared of? Murdoch bitting her? It would make sense, considering the older Ravenclaw's face was now a little flushed. "Are you scared right now? D'you want a hug?"

Noel was in the habit of concentrating on one thing at a time and in the case of his cousin being blue - Noel was ALL ears. He watched her fill her glass with juice and made a face. Did she not notice his urgency to know her troubles?
Mind reader. Merlin no. Never. His own thoughts were enough. "I just know you really very well" he stated, picking up a donut and taking a bite.
All of the above? REALLY? Homework and missing home he could understand but she actually had BOY troubles? Uh. "Who is it?" he asked bluntly yet again. Did she want him to punch someone? He so could.
"Yes you are. So who am I suppose to be picking a fight with?"
