The Eagles sit under a beautiful navy and bronze banner representing their house. Their solid, shiny wooden table is nicely polished with all the place settings perfectly set. The food will arrive after the Headmistress' traditional feast speech. To all Ravenclaws, both new and old: enjoy the feast!

Seeing many new faces this year, his mouth formed a huge grin. People were his THING. Sure, he was a bit weird, but whatevsies. He could mingle with the best of them.
"Hey all! Welcome back!"
BEAM.
"And to the newbies... WELCOME!"
Eden was trying to welcome any new people she noticed--WHOOH--because house pride, totally! She grinned when she saw a new boy---but...he looked older. Around her own age. Hmm. Interesting, interesting.
She was...well..maybe he wasn't new. Maybe she had just...never noticed him before...hmm. Weird. But she did smile and wave at him anyways. "Hi--I'm Eden--" she said quickly. "I...I don't think we've spoken before...unless you're...new..." but now she was questioning her memory. Which could sometimes be...very spotty....ooooops.
OOPS.
Plus, she had been new last year so...she wasn't sure about ALL of the 'claw faces and whatnot.
SPOILER!!: Grey Lady

They had prefect authority now that they should learn to use with care.
Smiling a little cheerily she said. "I'm feeling splendid dear. I always do at that start of a new year. Aren't you looking forward to starting classes tomorrow?"
Eden had to grin. The Grey Lady felt fine--so that was good. That meant she was in a very good mood, yes. And she was being oh so chatty. She supposed it must be lonely for the ghosts over the summer? With no students to talk to?
"I am..well..most of them." She said with a shrug. "I'm mostly looking forward to getting back to the library--reading up on some things--" she smiled happily, in anticipation of the coming year...and....MORE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT REPTILES, DUDE. Eden was almost positive she wanted to work with them at some point.
SPOILER!!: Adi

Eden grinned, suddenly, very BRIGHTLY--"Wait--I'm half and half too!" she said, bouncing in her seat excitedly. OH! This was cool! She loved meeting others like herself. Because like...yeah! More to talk about--and they'd understand things better and whatnot! WHEE! "It's like...cool because...you kind of get the best of both worlds. Who's the muggle?" she asked, merely out of curiosity.
Ugh. She sighed and nodded. "Yes. I did. They weren't SO bad--" she didn't do so HOT on a few of them, but she had gotten nine OWLs. SO that wasn't horrible. "I found the theoretical portions easier in most cases." She was too anxiety ridden for the practical parts.

So, he knew how to better deal with that sort of thing....which still wasn't that well, truth be told...but was much better than what these two younger Claws were doing. He didn't cry or scream. So, that was something?
Steeling himself, he took some deep breaths to make absolutely sure his voice didn't crack, waver. AND he was MUCH more careful this go around about making absolutely sure the Slytherin did not see the motion.
"Silencio."
He meant it. Stop talking.

All Gabriel had done was Silencio! the Slytherin for being rude and a bully...but then said Slytherin was charging at him...and...Well, he'd grown up in a house with seven older brothers; instinctively backing away from the angry boy and moving his hands up to cover his face...
.....BUT then a lot had started happening at once. All hell breaking loose, if you will...
Spells were flying from Clara and Penelope and Beverly had joined them...and that same quiet Third Year from before had tackled the angry Slytherin in his defense...
"Ex-pelli..uh, armus." Gabe paused to clear his throat, feeling lightheaded from the sudden combustion of his House table. He'd been tasked with handling situations...and he was trying here! "Expelliarmus!" Everyone just needed to STOP, okay? There were too many people in this room and someone could've gotten hurt by wayward magic. Snatching the wands out of the air jerkily, hands sweaty, he looked to Beverly. It'd have been a safe assumption that by the look of panic on his face, he was about to snap.
"Please take him back to your table." It was muttered because stuttering RIGHT NOW would NOT have been good. Gabe was trying to be authoritative here.
.
.
.....and NO, they weren't getting their wand back til they were all safely back in Ravenclaw.
Eden had seen Clara walk away--all right--she supposed she didn't want to deal with Rorie. She didn't blame her. But--then--that LOUD Slytherin--he suddenly SHOVED HER Clara--HER CLARA.
Gabe had already silenced him--normally, she would have thought this was AWFUL but at the moment--she was mentally applauding Gabe for having the guts to act for once. Merlin. Maybe he'd make a good prefect. Probably. Meh. But she GLARED at the little SNAKE BRAT when Beverly rushed over--did she have no control over her snakes?! Apparently not.
Not that Gabe/CB had control over any of them. So maybe her line of thinking was wrong. Hmph. Looking at Clara, she rushed over--"Hey--you okay?" she asked softly, shooting DEATH GLARES at the Slytherin still. Merlin. Trouble maker. TROUBLE. MAKER. She then looked over at Gabe---"You all right?" she might as well be nice to him. Even if he disliked her--and Eden wasn't sure WHAT she thought of him--he HAD just handled something pretty well.

In the seat next to Josette, fifth year Sophie Brown had arrived. Doing her best to appear invisible, hide from her it seemed. This was not right. This was not lady-like. You faced and greeted everyone especially your elders no matter if you liked them or not. Helena wrinkled her nose in disapproval and it clouded her voice just a little as she addressed the brown haired girl."Miss Brown, it’s so good to see you again! I trust you had a great summer vacation?"
Gesturing to the wet 11 year old Janelle the lady continued. "Can you be a dear and fix Janelle up with a towel or a hot air charm? She looks to be shivering." With no prefects currently around it seemed appropriate that Sophie as a senior stepped up.
Oh... sigh. Sophie was unable to make herself invisible from the Grey Lady, which really shouldn't have been too much of a surprise to her as the ghost always picked on her. Always. But... surprisingly, the woman didn't say anything mean to her - quite the contrary.
Soph actually smiled. Genuinely.
"Great as always, ma'am. I saw family, friends, interned in Diagon Alley, traveled a lot, made time for studies even in the midst of vacation - it was perfect, but I'm very happy to be back at school with my family," she gestured around to the Ravenclaws around them. "And thank you for asking." It didn't seem polite for Sophie to ask how her summer had been, so she politely smiled and refrained from asking. Couldn't have been too much fun as a ghost, right?
...Oh? The fifth year followed the Grey Lady's gaze to a youngling who... oh. Was indeed wearing very damp clothes. Hm. Well. "Of course, ma'am. Y'can always count on me." Did the house ghost REALIZE that? Hmmmm?
Without waiting for a reply, Soph rose to her feet and moved down the table to Janelle, where she promptly slipped her wand from its holster on her arm and pointed it at the girl's robes. "Hi. I'm Sophie. This isn't going to hurt, y'don't need to be scared. This is called the hot air charm," she explained as she cast the charm and very slowly guided it along the length of the girl's robes. "It's a pretty basic charm, if y'ask me, and I can teach it to you later if you'd like." It wasn't long before Sophie had worked her magic and dried the girl's robes - at least most places, as there were certain places Soph wasn't going to be able to dry completely - and offered the girl a smile. "Y'all right now?"

"I haven't made a blanket fort in a long time." But she was sure they would be more fun with friends.
I do.
Splendid.
"That's no matter. CB and I like to have a blanket fort up in the dorm, 'specially during the winter months so we can keep warm and it's a nice place to hang out and talk about stuff and share stories 'n whatever," she explained calmly, a friendly smile playing upon her lips. "Y'don't have to share anything with us if y'don't want to, but you're welcome to be our third best friend. If y'want best friends. Or we can just be normal friends, too, if y'find that y'don't like us, but it'd be more fun if y'joined us in our fun, I think. Plus, she's got a badge, so like... we'll be super privileged and all and get away with more stuff, if you're interested in the kinda fun where you can get away with stuff." Shrug. "I just wanna warn you that she and I are like inseparable, and I don't wanna make you feel left out when we get back to the dorm, 'cause I think it'd be really cool if we were like a trio or something, y'know? You're not gonna be a third wheel. We're gonna include you in everything, okay?"
Her spiel was a bit overkill, but she was trying to convince herself of this just as much as she was trying to convince Evie. Heh.

Ariel cupped her hands around her face to block out the ghost and narrow her surroundings.
Luckily, she seemed to sit next to a very talkative girl named Sophie Brown. Actually, she was quite overwhelming, too. Ariel could only muster up a painful looking smile to giver Sophie in appreciation to her 'welcome' and 'advice'. Everything she'd just said was very hard to believe right now. Especially about the negative feelings going away. She wanted to vomit and cry and go home.
To make matters....worse? that girl from the robe shop sat across from her and wanted to talk. It took Ariel a moment to answer, as she had to find her voice and swallow the sick feeling and decide to answer at all. "Ariel..." They were going to share a dorm? Was that how Hogwarts worked? They slept in dorms? She didn't even get her own room to hide away in at the end of the night?

...Uh? Was the girl just going to ignore her? She got a smile out of her, but otherwise Sophie just kind of... stared at the girl with raised eyebrows. She wasn't going to be sick on her, was she? And then there was another girl who joined them, and even though she seemed friendly enough, the girl beside Soph seemed to be even more miserable at the new girl's presence.
"Hi," Soph offered with a smile to the girl on the other side of the silent girl whose name was apparently Ariel, "m'Sophie. Welcome to Ravenclaw." Was THIS one going to reply, at least? Merlin.
...????
The moment Gabe drama started, Soph was STARING. She'd never miss an opportunity to scrutinize her best friend's strange and awkward boyfriend-dubbed-prefect, and the show didn't disappoint. Just as quickly as the commotion started, spells were being cast, and the fifth year sighed to herself and shook her head. Couldn't they just have ONE feast where things went normally? She hadn't missed the drama at the staff table and the drama over at the Slytherin table, but she had every hope that her table knew how to behave. Of course, a Slytherin seemed to be the cause of the commotion, but...
It still seemed entirely unnecessary. And ridiculous.
With her mind already made up on the best way to handle the situation AND prove her worth to the professors at the staff table who weren't quick enough to get there, Soph started to rise to go handle the situation the best way she knew how - and sure that it was going to be effective and defuse tension, as she had a great sense of humor about the whole thing - she faltered when Bev, Gabe, and CB who were all already in the area stepped in with their own individual methods. None of them were as helpful as hers, she was certain, and she still considered going down there to add her own spin on things, but just like that, everything was handled.
Deflated, Soph sat back down at her own section of the table, pretended like she had just been stretching, and went back to minding her own business. Though she may have been one of the only ones in the room not actively paying attention to the commotion still, she tried to seem normal and calm as she mindlessly straightened her joke of a badge and tried to seem very interested in her food.
Maybe the school didn't need her own brand of leadership as much as she thought.
Another tear running down his face, Gregoire didn't mean for this, for ANY of this to happen. All he meant to do, was to get his best friend to be with her crush. Who knew that they'd get offended by that?
When his Prefect, Beverly, came over and casted finite on him, his punch slammed down...
But not into the third year. Onto the ground...onto a familiar little golden locket which fell off of his neck earlier. Breathing heavily, the French boy slid off of Austin's chest. Still with his knees on the puddle of blood that now covered the ground, he said to the female Ravenclaw prefect (Coral) "Yes. I am done now." Breathing, Gregoire tried to keep his emotions in tact as he wiped the blood off of his face.
Pointing at the Ravenclaw second year, Ophelia, Gregoire spoke with a hoarse voice "Never...EVER...talk...to me...again." His hand was numb, his cheek was swollen, and his nose was probably broken. Even after vigorously and constantly wiping the blood away from his nose and mouth, more just kept coming out. Grabbing the now empty goblet that Ophie knocked onto the ground, he spit some of the blood in there.
Gregoire stood up and glared at the crowd with puffy red eyes. Looking at his Prefect then glancing back down at the third year eagle. He looked down. Tears started to rush from his eyes. "Sorry." Gregoire said while extending a bloody mess of a hand down to help the kid up from the ground. This would be one of the worst moments of his life. To think, that it would be on the first day of Hogwarts too. This was terrible.
If it wasn't for Beverly grabbing onto his arm, he would've collapsed into a crying mess right there. Rubbing away the blood, tears, and sweat off of his face, under his breath he mumbled "I wish this never happened."

Little Fox | ½ of Lauralie | Ravenclaw with a Hufflepuff heart and a Gryffindor soul | #HouseNATARIANA
People passed by her - she was sure someone had even spoken to her - but she was frozen. Too much was happening, too quickly. Her wand was gone, and so was her voice and her ability to move, it seemed ... though that had nothing to do with magic. Clara was simply in shock ..... she was shocked at what was happening; shocked at what she'd done. Sure, she'll had the intention of helping, of stopping the two reckless boys from causing more harm, but it seemed so much bigger than that now. There was so much commotion, so many people.
It was too ..... far too much ... how could anyone cope with it?
She was sure she was going to receive detention, but that was the least of her worries right now.
Clara could feel the panic building, the nausea rising within her. She'd only wanted to help. Help. To defend someone who needed defending ... to stop worse things happening. She was aware of voices around her, but she wasn't taking anything in. Instead, she stepped aside ..... sinking to the ground. No one would notice if she just ... No one would mind if she just ... sat here. Rested. That's all she needed.
Through the blur of everything around her, and her own hazy state, one face still stuck out to her.
Too many people to quote, so just know you're all here
A lot was going on, and to be honest Austin couldn't understand half of it. Somebody was yelling, and someone else was casting spells. There was so much noise going on that it made the poor third year's head hurt. There was a loud clanking somewhere, and he could have sworn he heard Ophie's voice. She didn't sound happy, and she was probably speaking to Austin. He tried to focus on her voice and what she was saying but it was just a bunch of noise, and the harder he tried to think, the more his head hurt.
Instead of focusing on the voices, he tried moving. He could move his fingers, which was good. That meant the immobulus curse was off. But he still felt like a huge weight was on his chest. He had a hard time moving, and he didn't think he could get up. Opening his eyes, he could see a lot of people and lights, but to be honest, they were all blurs. Why was everyone moving so much? Why couldn't they just sit still? Looking at everyone just hurt his head further, so he closed his eyes again, hoping the darkness would envelope him.
All he wanted to do was dissappear. He would probably get detention and house points deducted. This was the worst start to any term, and if this is how things were going to go down, he could tell he was going to spend a lot of time in the Hospital Wing. All he could think about was Ophelia. If what he heard was her voice, than she was definitely not happy with him, which made his heart hurt more than his head. She was one of the only people he cared about and he probably ruined every chance he had of being with her. Any chance of them getting together was probably ruined by what Austin just did, and it made him want to cry. Tear welled up under his closed eyes, but he kept them back as best as he could

Margo wanted to talk to her friend Janelle. She saw that she was sorted into Ravenclaw, but that wasn't going to stop Margo from being friends with her rescue swimmer. She was looking up and down the aisle hoping to catch her as quick as possible.
Quick being the key word here. There was some crazy business going on at this table. How had Margo not noticed from just a table away that this was going on. People were throwing PUNCHES!!! What was this nonsense muggle dueling....come on people, we had wands for Pete's Sake.....oh wait no worries, there were the spells being cast. This was quite the commotion going on. Jeepers, if this was how life at Hogwarts was always going to be she as in for real treat. Things would never be boring here that's for sure.

Tiara had not been paying particular attention to the Ravenclaw table, thinking surely not much could be going on even before Anastasia had given her speech. Oh how wrong she had been.
She arrived at the table, face fierce. She could not remember the last time she had been this angry. Really, she wouldn't have been surprised if waves of red anger had been visibly radiating out from her body.
"ENOUGH." It was a command, not a suggestion. "You three (natethegreat, keepmeclose22, carpediem) will proceed directly to your dormitories at once. No dinner. I shall know if you have made detours. Go."
As for the prefects... "Mister Banner, Miss Wayne, I need you to see me in my office first thing tomorrow morning."

Gabriel's. She was so proud of him.
And with that thought ....... she passed out.
WHAT.
NO.
CLARA HAD DIED.
Eden panicked. She couldn't lose her best friend--NOT NOW. NOT EVER. NO. This was TERRIBLE--Eden shrieked and waved over at Gabe and NOT CB because she didn't think Clara would like CB leering over her like that--and she just--knelt down next to her---
"DOES ANYONE KNOW CPR?!" she cried, in panic. Because you know, CPR, besides an excuse to kiss someone, was a LIFE SAVER. SOMETIMES. Maybe Clara needed it.

Austin did not look like he was okay. And then Clara passed out. It was good that Healer Murdoch was here. Penelope just looked at Healer Murdoch and then at Austin and Clara. The Healer would be able to do something, right?
Tiara had not been paying particular attention to the Ravenclaw table, thinking surely not much could be going on even before Anastasia had given her speech. Oh how wrong she had been.

Why was SHE in trouble? What did Ophelia do? Nothing, that's what. But the Healer didn't care about nothing, there were two people and a pool of blood on the floor. And The second year had to have done....SOMETHING that this person caught. Oh, Merlin, it was because she didn't stop the fight, right? Or the goblet? Why did she allow them to fight? And why did she knock the stupid goblet away? What was wrong with the kid this year? What was wrong with any of them? This kerfuffle was one-third her fault too, she supposed, and now Ophelia was going to be in trouble like the rest of them.
Without argument, she slid from the bench, kicking the cup more out of frustration and sadness than anger now. It rolled lamely away and under the bench. Which would've been a treat hiding place by the way. But that thought came too late, much like the teacher in this situation. People were seriously hurt and Ophelia was close to crying.
Austin! He was lying on the floor and hadn't said anything in so long. He wasn't okay and the Healer was going to help, right? Because he was her...older brother and friend. Which meant that he deserved help. Or at least the best they could do. He looked like he lost some blood.
For the record, she blamed Gregoire for what happened. He deserved some payback. But not here and not now. They were already in trouble, and the kid was frankly terrified of any more. She bit her lip and spoke in a tiny and scared voice. This was way out of line. And she didn't care.
"Ma'am? I think the boys need medical attention. They're all beaten up. Not to be offensive or anything, but at least Austin needs help." Yea, she was currently holding a grudge that would last several lifetimes. But they looked like they were in major pain. And major pain deserved to be dealt with.

Marigold had spotted Bev and Gabriel and CB doing prefect stuff from her table, and she had hurried over after everything had happened. Not on purpose, she was trying to help, but she had short legs. It wasn't her fault.
o____O Clara needed CPR??
"IS SHE OKAY?" she asked Eden, even though, obvs, she wasn't. 0.0 She was here, though. Just in case someone needed help.
"It WAS!" Because DRAGONS. In REAL LIFE. REAL DRAGONS WITH WINGS AND EVERYTHING!!! "D'you like dragons??" It hadn't even occurred to him that Thornton might not.
"That's a good idea!" He hadn't even thought about that, asking his parents for pictures. His papa had a camera so they could send him pictures right? So that when Jade was Mairwen's age he wouldn't be all surprised and stuff.
Curly hair? Hufflepuff? "Nooooooooooope. I try not to make too many friends with Hufflepuffs 'cause rumours say they die." He was already pushing the limit with Toby AND Lotus last year.
Thornton had never considered whether or not he liked dragons. He had knowledge of dragons. He had perhaps a teeny fear of dragons. But he'd never thought about whether he liked them or not. They were.. interesting at least. "I suppose I do?" Thornton shrugged. "I don't know that I would want to be in the same room as one, though... at least not without some sort of barrier or something."
Thornton's face scrunched up in confusion. "They die?" Thornton was unsure what sort of reason that was. Everyone died at some point. It did not occur to him, as he had not heard the rumours, that Hufflepuffs may not have a great life expectancy while they were still students.

Thornton turned back to Penelope, but before he could ask her how her summer had been, absolute chaos erupted down the length of the table. Eyes wide, Thornton stood on the bench - instinct instantly overriding manners - to get a better look. Tackling? Immobulus charms? Students sent to bed without dinner? And...
had Clara fainted?!
Biting his lip, the second year stood on his tiptoes, fidgeting nervously. There was nothing he could do, but he had to see what was happening.

She didn't know what to do with tears, but she wasn't about to panic right now. Her authority was on the line and she was too irritated to panic. Her hold on Gregoire still firm, Beverly moved out of the way when he stood up. Yes, he was done now, he better be.
At his teary apology, Beverly felt something again but shoved it away. They would exchange words later, away from eyes. She deserved a nice meal after this.
Catching his mumbled words she was about to respond how she wishes the same but BOOM, 'Claw down. Seeing as that was Ravenclaw's problem, she proceeded to ignore all else and pull Gregoire away from the table and back to theirs when Professor Tanner appeared.
Crud.
If any adult had to get involved she'd been hoping it was her Head of House. At least she wasn't taking house points--wait, why did she want to see HER? The question was nearly out of her mouth but she had a gut feeling Tanner wouldn't appreciate questioning her. Biting her tongue, Beverly nodded.
Without argument, she slid from the bench, kicking the cup more out of frustration and sadness than anger now. It rolled lamely away and under the bench. Which would've been a treat hiding place by the way. But that thought came too late, much like the teacher in this situation. People were seriously hurt and Ophelia was close to crying.
For the record, she blamed Gregoire for what happened. He deserved some payback. But not here and not now. They were already in trouble, and the kid was frankly terrified of any more. She bit her lip and nodded, doing what she should've done in the first place. Open the doors of the Great Hall and walk into the cold and unforgiving school. She was among the other students who were sent to their common rooms for misbehaving. Her parents were going to be furious. She should've done as her sister would've and told a teacher.

Austin had finally made it to a sitting up position, no thanks to anyone else. But it was good that he did, for it was then that the professor told them to make their way up to their dorms. Well, great. It wasn't like he wanted to eat anyways. Not anymore at least. His stomach hurt, and he was feeling nauseous. But now was not the time for barfing.
Watching Ophie, he realized that he had made a grave mistake. And this wasn't because he could get detention, or that house points could get deducted. It was because he seemed to have lost a great friend. Did he say something to her? Did she say something to him? What was going on? He hoped he didn't say anything else to her. He wanted to apologize to her, make things right. But he wanted to remember it. He wanted to prove he didn't mean for this.
But now was not that time, and he knew that. She was angry and sad. The blonde girl wasn't even facing him, and he knew that. Slowly, using the help of the nearby bench, Austin got up, and shakily tried to make his way towards the door. He was tired, and all he wanted to do was to go to bed. Thankfully no one would be there yet, so he could cry himself to sleep in silence.

Good, he seemed to be okay. Never mind then. Smiling weakly at the Professor, Ophelia followed her older friend away from the Great Hall, finally letting the tears that had been hiding in her blue-grey eyes fall. It was over, except this time no one won and they were all going to get in grand trouble. And besides the trouble, which was making the twelve year old's skin prickle, she had lost two great friends. The large castle looked lonelier than before now, and fears about her mom finding out what happened ran through her like her body was a marathon track. Because that was it. They were going to find out an yank her out of the school and Ophelia would never have a chance to make things right between any of them.
She wanted to apologize to Austin for hurting his feelings and check to make sure his head wasn't still bleeding. But not now. The twelve year old didn't know how and it didn't seem very much like the time anyway. It was time to just go to the common room and go to sleep. It was an exhausting night, and it had to be worse for the boys who actually had FOUGHT.
A million things seemed to go through her mind, mostly ways this could have happened differently. Ophelia didn't have to get upset at what he said. If she would've laughed, none of this would've happened. She didn't have to sass the prefect, or knock the goblet on the floor. She should've ran away, or went to another table. She had one third of the blame, and all of that was brought on herself. Which made it even worse.

Good. Her Ravenclaws were obeying, at least. They would have some serious retribution to face already. "He appears fine to me, but certainly we can have Healer Murdoch check him out. I thought I saw her coming down here a moment ago.." Where was she? "You will find a small plate of sandwiches up in the common room for you." The elves would certainly attend to that.

Good, an acknowledgement. "Better yet, let's make it the office of the Headmistress, Prefect Wayne. Tomorrow morning. You may make your way back to the Slytherin table now." Better to just get all the involved parties separated, which was exactly the point of sending the others off to bed.
Well then, looks like this Snake had to leave without you know, getting some medical help. Because after all, he did have a bloody mouth, his hands were bleeding, and possibly a broken nose. So how was he supposed to treat all that? Was he seriously supposed to do it all by himself? Also, another lovely thing he had to do: spend time in the common room...alone...with Rorrie.
Nope, that was a no go. Gregoire was just gonna go straight to bed. Before leaving though Gregoire had to do one thing. That was finish the job...he had to smash his locket. That locket would bring back to much pain now that this had to happen. Kneeling over it, with delicate hands he opened it up. Then he kissed the picture of Giovanni one last time before he gently laid it back on the floor. Standing up, he gently mumbled "Goodbye." The next thing the locket would've seen is the bottom of Gregoire's foot as he smashed it to pieces.
The locket would be way to much of a reminder for him. Now, very limply, Gregoire walked towards the large set of double doors. Then, without another word, without even glancing back, the French boy left the Great Hall without hesitation.
All that was left to show of him was the locket which had droplets of blood on it, and a very faint trail of blood that must've been dripping down from his hand or mouth.

And for that matter, did the common room grade stupidity according to year, or was it a flat level they had to pass? Ugh, she'd have to start taking a pillow and blanket with her all the time, just in case.
Kate's expression changed from an indifferent one to an excited one. Jumping all over her bed sounded exciting, but it also didn't sound very grown up. She was torn between wanting to be the little kid she was and the teenager she couldn't wait to be. Speaking of her bed, she was a little tired, but she didn't want to admit that out loud. Now THAT sounded really babyish!
"Knowledge-locked," Kate repeated with a lock. "My mom says that the Ravenclaw common room stays locked until you can answer a question. You have to really show a lot of logic and thought in your answer, too." Kate had decided that she was always try to go to the common room with somebody, that way they could both put their thoughts together and wouldn't be all alone if they couldn't come up with anything. She shrugged to Corrigan's question about being too stupid to get in the common room. "I guess that's one way of looking at it."

There was Maddie, who she waved to, and a few people close to her age that she'd seen around, who she sent friendly smiles toward, but she wasn't really close to any Ravenclaws. She hadn't done that on purpose, she was sure they were very nice people, it had just happened that way. Maybe she should actively attempt to meet more people from different houses. That sounded nice. But that wasn't her goal at the moment - though meeting new people certainly wouldn't be unwelcome. She was there to see and congratulate one specific first year who she didn't know extremely well but had hung out with on the train.
"Hello Ravenclaws," Hayden greeted the table as a whole, as she took a seat across from Kate. Luckily for her there had been an open spot so she didn't have to sit further away, surrounded by people she didn't know. Hayden had already eaten back at the Hufflepuff table so she wasn't too concerned about the food in front of her. That was also why she hadn't joined the Ravenclaws until so late into the feast. Anyway, she turned her attention now to the younger girl across from her.
"Hey," she said cheerfully. "Congrats on Ravenclaw."
Kate had just gotten back into her meal, when she heard the sound of someone greeting her. Well, not her. The whole table. But then the person greeted just Kate, which was what got her attention the most. It was Hayden! "Hey, Hayden!" she said. Then she sat up a little taller and prouder and added, "Thank you! I got just the house I was hoping for!" Just in case Hayden didn't remember Kate's excitement she'd shown on the platform. "How was your ride to school? I kind of lost you one the platform." She had been looking right at Hayden one second, and in the very mext moment, the crowd had thickened, and her Hufflepuff friend was lost.

Kate took a glance around the table and happened to catch the gaze of the girl prefect. Kate was really starting to get nervous about these perfects! What if what Corrigan said was true? What if they were just waiting until later to get bossy with them and give them a hard time?! Kate gave an awkward blink just before the girl waved at her. Hmm. Maybe prefects weren't so scary after all. Kate smiled and waved back just before things at the table went completely wild.
-----
Kate's eyes were wide as quaffles as she tried to figure out what was happening. Things were so calm and peaceful, and then there was yelling and spells and...had that one girl fainted? "Corrigan!" Kate said, not really sure what else to say. "What do we do?! I don't know many spells." Maybe she should just get under the house table and crawl back to the train. She wanted her MOM. No. No, she didn't. She was going to be grown up about this.

Kate didn't care that this professor's face looked fierce or that the woman looked madder than a fire ant. She was an adult, and she was going to fix all this! There was no need to climb under the house table now, which was a good thing, because Kate would have felt silly doing that anyway.
Well, then. Just in the course of a minute's time, three people had lost their right to eat, and two more had gotten called to the office. It was official. Hogwarts was a WAR ZONE.
Kate turned back around and faced forward. Biting into a roll, she decided not to say another word or look at another person.
Unless it was Corrigan or Hayden. Corrigan and Hayden were safe.

Gabriel had missed that the food had arrived...but his stomach was in literal knots at everything that had just transpired. The outlook on eating anything tonight was dim...as he'd also missed his necessary potion. Stressed to the max, Gabe glanced at CB and tried to smile.
The smile was a fail, of course...as it appeared more like a grimace. He didn't like this...dealing with other people's problems...business...but at least people had wanted to defend him? Is that what they'd been meaning to do?
He flushed.

No one will stop you from going to see a friend. Just get back to this one before the Feast is over since your prefects will show you to your common room and dorm.'' Adi paused. "Are you looking forward to seeing the common room? I'm sure Jasmine must have spoken a lot about it.''
Janelle listened as Adi explained his thoughts about Margo. "That's silly. I wouldn't turn away a friend because they were clumsy or afraid or anything like that. I wouldn't be a very good friend if I did, would I?"
Yes, I got wet when I jumped in the lake, but my robe was dry so it was just bad for a while. When Adi said that they were allowed to table hop, Janelle smiled. "I'll go over and say hi to Margo soon, but I'll be sure to make it back here in time." Just thinking about the Common Room made Janelle excited. She had heard all about it and wanted to see it for herself. "I can't wait to see the Common Room. I hear it's really beautiful." Truthfully, she was really ready to see the dorm room too. It had been a long and tiring day. Janelle could think of nothing better than curling up in her new bed.

"Y'all right now?".[/color]
Janelle was surprised when an older girl approached her and offered to dry her clothes. "Hi, I'm Janelle", she replied. At once, she felt the warm air blowing over her clothes and it felt good. Since her clothes were partially dry, it didn't take long for Sophie to complete the job.
"Thank you so much Sophie. I feel a lot better now. I would love for you to teach me that charm sometime. It could really come in handy." It was so nice of her housemate to help her out. Janelle would never forget it.
"So Sophie, what year is this for you? I can't wait until I learn a lot of useful spells like you." Janelle was soooo looking forward to her classes. She had so much to learn.
SPOILER!!: Margo

Quick being the key word here. There was some crazy business going on at this table. How had Margo not noticed from just a table away that this was going on. People were throwing PUNCHES!!! What was this nonsense muggle dueling....come on people, we had wands for Pete's Sake.....oh wait no worries, there were the spells being cast. This was quite the commotion going on. Jeepers, if this was how life at Hogwarts was always going to be she as in for real treat. Things would never be boring here that's for sure.
Janelle was distracted by a commotion at the other end of the table. What in the world was happening? A fight was happening? Seriously? Janelle could not believe that students were fighting. The term hadn't even started yet and there was total chaos at the Ravenclaw table. Jasmine hadn't told her about anything like this.
Then Janelle's very first friend appeared. "Margo hi", she said while tearing her eyes away from the ruckus. "How are you doing? Are you OK? Looks like you came just in time to see the show.". And what a show it was. Fists, blood, fainting........this had been quite a first day of school.
"Margo, we definitely have to get together after we get settled in. Maybe we can hang out and explore the castle and the grounds." Hopefully things would calm down and Day 1 was not a sign of things to come.

Healer Murdoch was going to tend to conscious students after reviving Clara. Tend to the conscious students. The ones that Professor Tanner had just sent away. Penelope wanted to point out that the injured students had just been sent away from the healer, and that it was a terrible idea to let them walk away when they were seriously injured, but she didn't want to get in trouble. Comments like that could be perceived as rude. She decided to no say more to Professor Tanner. Healer Murdoch would be able to handle the situation and see to it that the injured students got the necessary medical attention.
Penelope looked at Gabe, who was not looking much better than some of the students who had been injured. Her eyes settled on his hands and the wands that he was holding. One of those wands looked a lot like her wand... Wait, where was her wand? She hadn't seen it since she had immobilized Austin and the Slytherin boy. It wasn't in her wand holster. That could only mean one thing. The wand in Gabe's hand that looked like her wand was her wand. "Gabe, is that my wand?" Why did Gabe have her wand? Did Gabe know how dangerous it was to touch her wand? "You really shouldn't be touching my wand, Gabe. It's not good for you to be touching my wand." Healer Murdoch already had enough injured students to deal with, and she certainly wouldn't be happy if Gabe got his fingers burned or turned into sausages.
