A large number of floor-to-ceiling bookcases fill up the library, creating aisles upon aisles of books available for students to read and browse. To make finding books for all years a little easier Mr Kitridge has divided the bookshelves into sections like romance, suspense, crime, history, plants and fungi etc.
To return books just walk up to the appropriate shelf and hold up the book. The gripping charm in place on the shelves will take a hold of the book. When you feel a tug on the book let go and the book will fly up and find its right place amongst the other books on the shelves. When retrieving a book you can use the sliding ladders or if you feel confident with your magic you can use a simple accio charm to retrieve the book you want.
In front of each aisle there is small set of desks which students can use to complete homework, copy notes, take book references or chat. Keep your voices down and be mindful of falling books and other students accessing books around you.
First book of the term. WHAT SHOULD SHE GET. Something animal related. Actually--possibly--something snake related. Reptile. Anything she could get her hands on? Going to the correct aisle, she scanned the titles on all of the spines, and sighed...
Basilisks.
There was a book on Basilisks? Fingering the top of the spine, she pulled it out halfway and examined it. It wasn't anything bad or dark--just a book of facts--and it was pretty think. There seemed to be a spot in the middle full of pictures and drawings of the creatures. Yes. This was what she wanted. She pulled it from the shelf and leaned against it, sifting through the book quickly....
SO. FLIPPIN'. FASCINATING.
She might die.

He was looking for books too, although nothing specific. The only things Dima really wanted to learn about at the moment were the spells that the new Charms professor had spoken about during the feast, although he had to locate them himself since he was never asking THAT guy for help again. Total tool.
Except there weren't charms as interesting or advanced as that in the aisle, and if there were, he wouldn't be able to perform them anyway. So the third year was ready to leave and come back later, if not for noticing an older girl in an aisle nearby. The SPIT NAPKIN FORK THROWING one. And boy, did Dima have WORDS for her.
'Cept he was too nice to articulate any of them, and also he found the book she was reading fascinating.
Instead of heading to the shelf to see if there was a copy, he sidled up to her and leaned on the bookcase beside her, trying to read from the side. She was a Ravenclaw; she'd understand the importance of sharing KNOWLEDGE, right?

Eden hadn't noticed the arrival of her fellow, younger eagle. She was too engrossed in a particular paragraph about their feeding. Well. Besides eating muggle-borns and stuff--oh they wee fascinating all right. Though--Eden didn't know--DID THEY EAT MUGGLE BORNS? What about half-bloods? Wait--she was confusing herself--Merlin--she had to sift through some----
And.
There was.
A.
Child.
In her personal space.
Dmitry Toussaint, to be....exact. Merlin. Didn't she go to Durm with a Toussaint? Any relation? The one she knew was really smooth and chill and calm. And Dima...was not. "Excuse you--" she said, in the gentlest voice she could muster. "I don't mind you reading--but--you should ask first." She said with a nod, not in a rude or mean way..just...INFORMIN' HIM. "Proper manners." Not that Eden could brag about her manners.
What manners? What WERE manners?

..... what? Spit napkin lady was talking to HIM about manners? Dima didn't think she would mind since she had been invading people's space with pointy FORKS, but it was bad if he did very gently for reading? Huh. Well. He didn't like to upset anyone, so he stepped back anyway.
"I'm sorry." Paaaause. "Can I read with you? Please?"
Pretty please with a cherry on top?

Eden smirked and nodded. "Yes--" she said, and she passed the book over to him. "You can hold it, if you want." She was actually trying to be nice, too, see? Letting him hold it and everything. "Your name's...Dmitry, right?" RIGHT KID? "Dima...?" She didn't want to misname him. Bad bad bad. But he was like..Maddie and Kyroh's bestie, right?
Right. She knew these things. Hmph.
She let her bag drag to the ground next to her, and leaned against the book shelf next to him. It would have been terrible if the shelf knocked over--and in turn, domino effected ALL OF THE OTHER SHELVES. So she quickly un-leaned and just cleared her throat. Her blue eyes flitted down to the book, though, but she was a smiiiidge taller than Dima--and she smirked to herself.
She had noticed, though, at the feast--Kyroh was as tall as she was. Sad times. Sad. Times.

Oh. So she could give people thinks other than concussions with silverware? Huh, good to know. Dima cautiously took the book from her, eyes on her the whole time. She already knew his NAME? Was he supposed to know hers? Because the only thing he knew about this girl was that- "You're the girl who was throwing spit napkins."
Yup. She had a rep now.
Waiting for some sort of response, he directed his attention back to the book. Male basilisks had a scarlet plume? Cool!!

Did Dima not know her name? "Um." Awkward. Eden knew she wasn't, like, popular or something, but.."I'm...Eden. Yeah? In your house--sixth year--transfer from Durmstrang?" she asked, wondering if the kid paid any attention to ANYTHING whatsoEVER?
Hmph.

Damien didn’t look like it, but he loved reading and finding out about the Hogwarts library and how it was one of the largest in Britain had peeked his curiosity.
It was even better than he had imagined. Huge, huge, huge, it was all he could think as he’d passed through the Library, his eyes taking it all in hungrily. Cris would have liked it, he was sure… Thinking of the girl sent his emotions aflurry. On the one hand, he missed her quite a bit, on the other things had been a bit weird with them ever since the beach and Damien still felt awkward just thinking about it.
Maybe it was for the best they had some time apart… Not too much longer, though… Next chance he got he would sneak out to see her.

You know… As soon as he got over the awkward.
Paloma was sitting at a table listing all possible bibliography that she might need during the term to study. It was NEWTs year and her mind went a little crazy just thinking that she might really have to let go of practice hours and give it up for study hall hours.
But her head counted another story, though. She was worried about Cris, her cousin. And also thinking about Kai. She missed him so much. Some envelopes were lying on the edge of the table, so in her moment of worried despair she pushed them onto the floor without noticing.

He was still wandering through the shelves when he stepped on something that crinkled loudly through the quiet area. He blinked and looked down to see… Notes? Nice hand writing too, feminine, small, but nice.
He looked up, it was the girl from before, the one who he’d spoken too about the apple juice. – he still preferred cider – and she looked… Rather distressed actually. “Um, excuse me, miss… “ What had been her name? it had been the same as Cris’ cousin. “Paloma? I think you dropped these.” Damien said, holding up the notes so that she could see them, a small smile on his young face.

Paloma looked down at the notes she had pushed off the table, and the boy who was holding them. She looked at him, and tried to remember his face, from somewhere, close to..."You, you are...Damien," She said his name in a very Spanish accent-and a low tone-trying to see if that wasn't weird to call out in the middle of a library. "....Cris's...uh...friend." Yeah, she had clear what they were.
"Thanks..." Paloma said, taking the envelopes and her notes from his hand, and really hoping that Cris' handwriting didn't stand out, so she hid them under the book she was reading.

Cilla had a keen interest in music so when she had heard about magical singers, she just had to read about them. She was busy walking among the bookshelves, trying to find a suitable book. Maybe she should have asked the librarian first but the sight of all those books had made Cilla make a beeline for them.
Maybe a student could help. A fellow Slytherin or even someone from another house. She didn't mind.

Zhenya had her head in a book. Like normally. She was wandering up and down the aisles reading, not looking up. Just walking and reading, which she could do quite easily. In fact, she was so good at it that she knew she could walk from the library to the Slytherin common room without looking up. In fact, she was so confident she could do that… she turned around to prove herself right.
.
.
.
… and smacked into someone.
"AHH I'M SO SORRY!" She squealed, holding a hand to her head, and bending down to pick up her book.
Her cheeks blazed red, she felt it. She was foolish, and had made herself seem cocky. To herself, of course. Damn...

Cilla gasped slightly as an older Slytherin crashed into her. She staggered slightly as she got a hold of her bearings.
"That's okay. No harm done," Cilla said as she smiled.
She looked at the book. "What is that you were reading? Oh and do you know any books about magical musicians and singers?"

Zhenya resisted the urge to go over the girl to make sure that indeed no harm was actually done. No, she couldn't do that, she didn't know this girl.
Just one more "Sorrysorry," quietly. "Good, sorry." UGHNO. Stop saying SORRY Zhenya. She gulped, then looked up at the girl. A slithering, younger than she.
She was about to take a breath to introduce herself, when the girl started speaking first. Good, Zhenya was bad at small talk, breaking the ice kind of thing. She smiled and said "Oh, just a biography of a healer, actually." She was trying to get ideas and inspiration for studying. She looked up from her book and thought about what else the girl was saying. About magical musicians and singers. "Oh, I… I don't really know much about music." For some reason she wasn't really into music. It was weird, she knew. "My brother loves a band called the Flaming Hippogriff. And my mum likes an artist, I think he sings or plays some instrument… his name is Worbeck Szcizinski. What are you interested in specifically?" she asked.

"I am into rock/pop music. I have heard the name of some band called "The Weird Sisters. Do you know anything about them?"

She nodded again. Surely she would put her neck out one day, from all this nodding. She stopped nodding. "Yes, I've heard of them. I used to always listen to one of their songs… Do the Hippogriff. It has a cool…. flow." The na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na was very catchy. "And I know they used drums, guitars, cellos, lutes, double bass' and bag pipes."
She tapped her foot as she sang through the lyrics in her head, almost losing herself in the moment, but pulling back at the last second. Stay in the present.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Really." She was, just… a bit loopy. "Cilla. That's cool. I'm Zhenya." She gave a smile.

The Weird Sisters sounded amazing to Cilla. "I 'ope there is a book about them because they sound fab!" she exclaimed.
Cilla smiled back as Zhenya introduced herself. "What a cool name. That house meeting was intense, wasn't it?" Cilla said with a sigh.

"I'm sure there will be. I can help you look if you want? Otherwise I'm sure Mr. Kitridge will know if he has one, and where it is." He surely would, he was the lovely librarian.
With every inhale, she caught the subtle scent of books.
"Oh thanks, it's Russian," she said, with her slight accent becoming stronger when she said the word Russian. Oh that HOUSE MEETING. She shook her head slightly, trying to keep it hidden in the locked part of her brain. "Oh I know! The Healer and Transfiguration Professor can be a little… intense. Especially the healer."

"I'd love for you to 'elp me look. Mr Kitridge sounds nice," Cilla replied.
"I am from Liverpool, England so I 'ave a slight accent too. Bellaire seems more intense to me. I am going to do me best to earn heaps of house points. I may volunteer at the infirmary at some stage but right now it is all about lessons."

She gave a smile, and said "Cool, we can just browse up and down the bookshelves until we get to anything associated with music." That was surely a plan, right?
Liverpool! Zhenya did notice the different accent with some of the words Cilla spoke, but it was cool, diversity and all. "Cool, what's it like in Liverpool? Oh, well just wait until the healer is mad. It's… not pleasant. Actually, Belaire isn't TOO bad in lessons if you are punctual and neat, but it's still best to err on the side of caution. I think."

He frowned a little. It wasn't nice to call people names, did she know? Especially when SHE was the one throwing stuff at them. "Some people don't like that stuff." And Dima thought she should be more considerate, because Gabe had clearly been DISTRAUGHT.
Uh... why was she looking at him like that? Was he supposed to know who she was? "... oh. Right. Yeah."
If acting like he'd just forgotten would be a better course of action... well, then.
Eden just nodded and shrugged. "It wasn't that bad. And. It was just a joke." She said softly. But. Of course. Eden was feeling guilty about it again. "I sent him an apology..." she added.
And she had. Along with a whooooole bunch of snake eyes. So Gabe hopefully had forgiven her, right? She took his lack of..rudeness towards as such. She eyed the book in his hands and wondered if he intended on stealing it. Was he biding her time?
Hmph.
Was Dima that..........conniving? She didn't know. But she just stared at him for a minute. "My name's Eden." She said. ".....now you know it."
Sigh. She was disappointed that Kyroh's friend didn't seem as cool as Kyroh. It was a shame. Didn't mean she wouldn't be nice to the kid, though.

"Sounds like a perfect plan, Zhenya," Cilla said.
Cilla smiled with nostalgia as she thought about home. "Liverpool is fab! I feel honoured that I come from the same town as the famous Muggle band The Beatles. I do live in the poorer area hence why I have started so late because me mam and dad had to scrimp and save to pay for me schooling. This is technically my first year 'ere but being 13 and being able to do magic, I am starting Third Year."
She thought for a moment and continued. "I was quite surprised when I got my letter since I am muggleborn. I've 'eard that Slytherin is mostly Pureblood."
