The driver and snack lady sit waaaaaay up front in the driver's cab, but there are plenty of other compartments up here! Careful you don't sit in the Prefects' cab though. They bite.
"You..." better be. Dalton bit down hard on his bottom lip before allowing the retort to come out, letting the words die at the back of his throat. Not the best way to start of with people, probably, and for Travis' sake he was trying to care. Travis and Aled - because how hard this year was going to be for him, without his little ginger friend.
He didn't want to think of how easy it could be for Al.
Dalton supposed he could let the 'didn't see you' comment slide, seeing as how this girl wasn't much smaller than him, and most of the kids here were obviously bigger. His scowl deepened a little at the mention of her mother, and his eyes darkened, but he didn't say anything. Just settled for shaking the very end of her hand with his fingers and murmuring, "Dalton."
Now Margo wanted to compartment share? ERM. Without time or energy to think up a decent response, the eleven year old shrugged. "Sure."
Margo gave the boy a funny look he seemed as if he was sad....no maybe that wasn't right. But he was definitely a brooding boy. He seemed like he was a first year as well, but Margo was slightly scared to ask him anymore questions. So without further ado she slid the door open and started making her way in. "Well the it's nice to meet you Dalton." She smiled flashing her teeth yet again.
"This is my first year at Hogwarts. I'm so excited to be going, we weren't sure if I'd get to after what happened with my brother." Oh darn!!! She mentioned her brother again. Didn't her father tell her to leave it alone! But he wasn't here, neither was her brother so none of them could yell at her for it!
Margo turned and smiled at Dalton. "Your first year to?" She asked him, hoping to maybe get a smile out of him at the very least.

"I guess technically," David said, walking in after her and shutting the door. "But if you're in front, you get to see it before the rest of the train," he continued with a grin, plopping down into the seat across from her. "So that makes it better." Obviously.
"I'm David, by the way." Because he'd just realized he hadn't yet introduced himself.

Thus...looking weirder.
Sigh.
"Oh--I--yeah--I've always wanted to figure one out--" she said softly, holding out her hand for it. She wanted to TRY. "Can ...I?" she asked, smiling more...in a friendly way now. "I think I can get ONE side the same color--" she'd done that plenty of times. Not that that was anything to brag about, but whatever. "So--what year are you?" she asked casually, trying to make conversation.
Eden typically got along with the younger students. And she just thought they were all so cute. Adorable. INNOCENT. And funny. And also wise. A lot wiser than she felt.
Brian squinted at her as she glanced at the compartment door. Did he scare her off or something? Oh, okay, she was staying. "It's nice to meet you too, Eden," he said, about to shake the hand she offered when she took it back. WHY would she do that? Honestly, he was starting to wonder about her sanity. He was pretty worried about his sanity too, for that matter. Trust his luck that he met such weird people.
"Yeah, of course," he said, handing it over to her and smiling a little. "It's a start. We all have to start somewhere, right?" She could get one or two colours in and he could finish it up for her. Or he could get the other one out of his bag, but that involved some amount of effort. Maybe he'd just settle for watching her solve the cube. That sounded like a plan.

He had a very good point there. Her face lit up with recognition of it. Only, he sat across from her, which made sense conversationally, but went against what he was just talking about. "You won't if you sit backwards." You would instead watch everything leaving, which was rather sad.
"I'm Ariel." It was nice to finally get his name. "Thank you for helping."

Kate smiled and ventured further into the compartment. Sliding into the seat opposite the girl, she said, "Cool. Timmy it is then. I'm Kate Addison, and I don't have any nicknames. Kate's just fine with me." Plus, there weren't many ways you could shorten the name Kate, and she didn't like the name Kay. "I heard the ride's a long one. Six to eight hours, maybe." She got herself comfortable as she said this, figuring it might be a while before she got up and walked around again.
Maybe she wouldn't even get up and move around at all until they reached the castle. "The corridors were kind of intimidating," she admitted. "There's not many first years it seems. Or, at least I didn't see anybody who looked to be my age. What about you? What year are you in?" If she wasn't a first year, then it was official. Kate was the one and only first year Hogwarts had this year. Exaggeration. She knew she really wasn't.
Timmy got all bouncy as the girl sat down. Yay! She had company now. And her name was Kate. Timmy had never met a Kate before so this made her new friend special. At least to her it did. "I've never met a Kate before so you're the first and that makes you special!" Timmy nodded. Totally did and BOOM friends. But maybe she was just pushing it a bit right now. Oops. The blonde dancer was just excited to not be lonely after Ollie had ditched her somewhere. Hopefully he hadn't gotten lost on the train. Well, serves him right for leaving her. ...hang on. Did she hear Kate right?
SIX TO EIGHT HOURS?!
Mum hadn't mentioned that! "That's basically a night's sleep! Such a long time.." No kiddin Timmy would definitely fall asleep on the train at some point. Not like there was much to do on the rise anyway. "Or maybe the others are already hiding out from the older students. They're just really crowded," She slightly cringed at how bad it was out there. All the dodging and crawling she just had to do. "Me? I'm starting my first year at Hogwarts," Timmy beamed, clearly excited to be getting to the school her mum had told her so much about.

Josie bit her lip as he suggested calling Bastian. She shrugged a bit, "T-That could work..." At least she could use her voice to call him, not so much her hands.
Just as she was about to call his name, the boy had made a comment about letting his crup loose on her weird cat. There was a brief look of horror on her face as she stared at him, which would last for a few moments until he would start attempting to call for Sebastian.
She stood on her toes as she started calling for her Siamese once again, "B-Bastian...Come on B-Bastian...I-It's alright..." The fourteen year attempted reaching her hands up once more as she tried to gesture Bastian to come towards her. And in the midst of this she had finally caught the name of the boy beside her, who was named Noel. "I-I'm Josie-J-Josette...M-My name's Josette..."
Just then she heard Bastian meow. She gasped looking at Noel & asked eagerly, "D-Did he move? I-It sounds like h-he's moved a bit c-closer..B-Bastian?" She turned her attention back up at the storage trying to see, but was obviously not working to her advantage. While she was doing so, she unintentionally bumped into Noel's side & she gasped immediately saying, "O-Oh..I-I'm sorry..S-Sorry..."
The cat just wouldn't move and it sort of frustrated Noel. Because WHY? He jst didn't get cats. If it was his crup, and if he wasn't even calling - Lamb would appear. In fact, even now when the little train jolt had happened - Lamb had ran towards him, unlike the girl's cat who ran away from her. Why did girls like cats? It was beyond him.
Obviously he wasn't going to voice out his thoughts - that would be mean.
OH. The cat MEOWED.
"Ah, I think he knows you are down here" Noel told the concerned girl. "But he sure is taking his time to move" Stubborn little creature. He seriously should just let Lamb loose. But he didn't want the girl to freak out. She seemed sweet.
And she has a name! "Nice to meet you Josie - and err, your cat"
When the girl suddenly bumped into him, Noel wouldn't have noticed but the girl started apologizing. Noel shook his head "Its totally finee" he tried to assure. Because really it was.
And then an idea occurred to him. "Okay, so how about I lift you up?" he asked, staring at the stubborn cat with him hands on his waist. Or maybe I can introduce you to owning a much loyal pet?

There were kids everywhere. Literally everywhere. She was pretty sure she'd even seen a few hanging off the ceiling a while back, but maybe they'd just been very tall and standing with their arms in the air for whatever reason. Corrigan was from a large family, and was used to crowding into the car and around the table, but none of these people were people she knew. She supposed her cousin was somewhere in this throng, but they'd been separated somehow.
I'll just have to pick a compartment, and she can find me. Yes, that's far more sensible than bumping around the corridors. And so, at the first sighting of an empty (or perhaps mostly empty) compartment, Corrigan slid back the door and hustled inside, closing it with a bang and flopping down on the seats.
Not even at the school and already feeling overwhelmed. Ugh.

Josie bit her lip as she was getting a bit anxious that Bastian still hadn't come down. Not only that, but she was getting a bit frustrated, but apparently she wasn't the only one. It seemed like Noel was getting a bit frustrated himself & that was when some guilt was beginning to overcome her.
Hearing his words, was when she could tell there was a slight bit of frustration in his tone. She couldn't help but speak a soft, "I-I'm really sorry about t-this.."
She nodded, "It's nice t-to meet you Noel.."
A sigh of relief soon overcame her when he didn't seem to be upset that she had accidentally bumped into him. Her eyes went back up to Bastian until she'd heard him speak again. Josie turned her attention to him once more as he'd suggested he lift her up this time, which made her face feel a bit warm. Would that be okay? What would father say?! He'd have a fit! BUT what other option was there, she couldn't reach Sebastian on her own & Noel probably didn't want to get scratched. She cleared her throat, "U-Um..I-I guess we c-could give that a try.."
"First, actually."
Eden took it and eyed it all over--examining what he had done so far. Merlin. She hadn't seen one of these in awhile--and since it was a muggle thing, she was sure her father had been astounded by it and probably stolen it from her. He wasn't usually interested in muggle things, but she could clearly remember him being FASCINATED by the rubiks cube.
She began the puzzle, doing her best to..not mess it up. It was difficult. But she felt like...HEY SHE WAS A RAVENCLAW, SHE COULD DO THIS? But her smarts weren't with puzzles...or riddles...or anything like that.
"Oh--" she looked up quickly. "Your first year?!" she asked excitedly, positively BOUNCING at him. "Wow--okay--that's so cool! You'll love it here--absolutely lOVE it--this is my second year HERE, actually, but I'm a sixth year." she grinned and nodded.

Kate couldn't help but smile at Timmy. She was happy and bouncy and excited just like Kate was. Plus, she said really amusing things, like the fact that Kate was special because Timmy had never met a Kate before. "Then that makes you special, too, because you're the first girl I've ever met who goes by Timmy," she said. It was a fun nickname, and Kate liked it. So that sealed the deal. Kate and Timmy were two pretty awesome people. Also, Timmy was a first year, too, so Kate was happy to be getting along with somebody in her own year.
"I know," Kate agreed, commenting on the night's sleep. "I'd try to sleep, but I'm too excited. Plus, I'm not really tired right now." All Kate could think about was the sorting hat and where it'd place her. "Just think. By nighttime, we'll know which house we'll be in for seven whole years!" Kate had thought about sleeping in the towers for so long now. That is, considering she actually got placed into Ravenclaw like she hoped. "Let's see," Kate said, looking thoughtful for a minute. "You seem like a...Hufflepuff." Timmy was really friendly and outgoing. "How would you feel about that house?"

Okay, he was just a little bored now, and it was proving to be a particularly long train ride. But Eden seemed to be having fun and he didn't want to take the cube away from her so he'd just let her at it. She wasn't too bad at it either, he decided. It was a skill that took time and enough courage to keep at it when people were watching.
"Yeah," he grinned, but backed away quickly when she bounced at him and hit his head on the wall of the compartment. "Ouch." Please don't scare him like that again, Eden. Wait, it was her second year but she was a sixth year? How did that work? Could they transfer between schools or something? "Where were you the other four years, then?"
So she didn't look like she was going to be done anytime soon, so Brian decided it was time to reach into his bag and pull out his mirror cube and get to work on it. His sister liked to use it for preening purposes, but that was a real waste of a good puzzle, so he'd nicked it from her. It wasn't like she'd notice.

Well he wasn't frustrated - maybe a little. Not so much that he would abandon Josie and let her deal with her stubborn cat. "It's totally fine, I am just thinking how can I make you get a much more loyal pet" he said with a grin.
Lifting was thing was okay? OKAY.
He hadn't really thought it through of course. So who knew if he could actually lift a fully grown girl or not. Yes, he could easily lift his tiny sister but a girl closer to his own age. Uuuuh.
But anyway. The bloody cat had to come down! So yeah.
So without giving it another thought, the boy backed away a little and placing his hands on the girls waist - picturing it was his sister Sunny and not some random girl he had JUST met. Step one? CHECK.
And LIFT. Surprisingly, the girl was not at all heavy or ready to crush him under her weight. She was actually light - not as light as a five year old of course but considerably.
"Uuuh .. do you see him?" He asked, keeping a firm grip - because it was one thing to lift someone, and it was another to keeep on lifting.

"Yeah." About the nice to meet you thing - Dalton hoped that sufficed as a response, because he wasn't going to lie and say he was glad to meet her, too, and he wasn't going to be rude and let her know that he didn't care, either. He was just going to go with it. Following her into the compartment, he didn't pull the door completely to, leaving it open slightly.
God, she was a smiley individual. "My first year, too." He managed, and while he didn't smile, his face relaxed a little and he stopped scowling. At the mention of her family, he couldn't help but frown a little bit, and a slight hint of curiosity overtook him. "Why, what happened to your brother?"
And he wasn't going to apologise for being nosey - she'd brought the subject up.
