Holy guacaMOLE this was OFFICIALLY the best day in the entire universe. Did Professor Thompson know that? 'Cause SHE knew that, and it was causing her to lose all teenager control and bounce up and down a LITTLE bit. Just a little, okay, she was still a thirteen year old somewhere in there, but still. UNICORNS! Figuring it'd be dumb to say her first idea, which was something along the lines of 'they're the coolest in the universe and are secretly made of rainbows and sparkles,' for a little more relevant but much boringer answers. With her hand in the air, Norah said, "Unicorn hairs are used in lots of things like wands and potions." She put her hand down and smiled at her feet in their purple trainers, but ended up looking right back up and adding, "AND they're awesome!" Just in case somebody didn't know that yet, yep.

At the mention of unicorns Beverly's attention shot toward the front of the class. Did he remember that one time he taught her how to feed unicorns in Diagon Alley? Did HE? Because she did! It had been a milestone kind of thing. The events from a few days ago almost slipped her mind. The topic was helping get her mind off it, though.

Without much thought her hand went up in the air. She was well versed when it came to her favorite subject. "Unicorns are Ministry classified as XXXX; they require a skilled wizard to handle them."

Adi saw her the moment she entered the barnyard. He smiled and waved back at AJ, expecting her to come over but not altogether surprised that she got side tracked by the goose. Twice this year he was ignored because of a creature. Well, kind of, since Quigley had been in Animagus form at that time. Adi turned his attention to Janelle and smiled back at her. His little friend was always on time to classes. And hereeee was his best buddy in the whole world, universe, galaxy, whatever. "Hiya, Benny.''

UNICORNS? That's what Thompson said, riiiiight? Adi eyes darted to his girlfriend. Unicorns were her favourite creatures and he expected to totally be ignored in this lesson now. Yup. The unicorns would have ALLLLL her attention.

In reply to the Professor's question, the Puffer raised a hand. "Unicorns are super fast so they are very difficult to capture.'' Gosh. That made Adi's job a little harder in relation to getting one for AJ, didn't it? That and the fact that they preferred a witch to approach them. Heh.

Did he just... Could it be? Unicorns? Real live unicorns? AJ sort of twitched for a moment, and stared at Thompson with a glazed over look on her face. Had she died and gone to heaven? Somebody needed to pinch her. All these years he had hinted to her that this would be coming, but today was the day. AJ made a sort of snort/wheeze sound in her throat. Slowly but surely the realization that this WAS real life was starting to dawn on her.

Her eyes widened and before she knew it, she was jumping up and down while her fists pumped the air all random like. "AHHHARHGHEEEK!!!" Her voice was VERY high pitched, and it wouldn't be a stretch to think that only merpeople would be able to interpret her squeals.

This was happening. Her dreams were coming true. Did Thompson realize that he made AJ happier than she had EVER been? How could she not go on a unicorn rant with his question? The answer to that was that she couldn't.

Her eyes glazed over once more, and she went into a sort of trance. This was a special place that was reserved for her over the top unicorness. "Unicorns are majestic beauties that make the world a better place. One day I will have a unicorn farm and I will.... I will..." Wheeze. "...love them forever."

Unicorns. They were talking about unicorns. Mitchell was kind of curious as to what the notice about bathing had to do with them. Did they only like freshly bathed people?

"They prefer women." he offered when the question was asked about what they knew. And chicks loved them. But that wasn't really a fact. It was more like a universal truth.

Angel was sure her sister was loving this lesson, given her love for unicorns but she wasn't as keen on them. She raised her hand an smiled. "Professor, some people say that unicorn blood can be used for some very evil intentions."

Kace saw the Professor walking in with a parcel and it seemed like he was busy with something before class. He saw Lala was getting comfortable with the students and then Professor Thompson brought and he sat down getting himself comfortable. What did he know about unicorns? Well he knew one thing...

He raised his hand and said, "Professor I know Unicorn hairs are found in wands. I guess something magical about their hair has something to do with it." I mean everything else was said so he went with the next best thing to say.

Professor Thompson made his entrance and class was in session. Too bad because Janelle was just about to play with the goose. Oh well, maybe she would get a chance later.

It looked like unicorns were the topic of the day and the Professor wanted to see what they all knew about them. Janelle raised her hand and gave her answer. "Unicorn horns can be used in potions." There that was her contribution to the conversation. Short and to the point. Then Janelle proceeded to take notes, as her classmates answered the question.

There was Professor Thompson.

The double doors of the enclosure opened to admit the man who was currently carrying something that illicited curiousity. What was in it? Was that a...a fruity smell? Was the smell coming from the box? "Hello Professor," he greeted simply in passing as the man was beginning the class right of the bat. Taking the instructions to heart, Benny took a seat near Adi since he had previously still been standing.

When the topic of the day's lesson was revealed, the fifth year couldn't help but look over where AJ was. Boy was she in for a great day! Benny could only imagine the length of knowledge she could share with them about the creatures. Likely about as much as he could give about dragons, the only difference being the younger Gryffindor was far more vocal in her passion.

Was Zander backing away from her?

Benny didn't have time to dwell on the question as his best friend's girlfriend was starting to react to the news. Wide eyed...off jumble of letters and sounds coming from her mouth at a high pitched sounds. Please tell him he didn't act like that during the joint charms/transfiguration lesson. As for facts about unicorns, everything he was coming up with was already being said. He really did need to be quicker speaking up.

Unicorns, yaaaay! Blair had never seen a unicorn in real life but from what she'd seen in pictures they were beautiful. This is going to be a fab lesson she thought.

She raised her hand, "Please Professor, I've heard that a unicorns horn may be used to make poisoned water drinkable."

Blair wasn't exactly sure how much truth there was in that statement but hopefully the Professor could correct her otherwise.

"Excellent." Addressing those who answered and those who were paying attention if not answering. There were only a few facts not mentioned, "Unicorn foals at birth are gold-coloured as Mr. Hirase mentioned. Every two years until their seventh year of age their appearance changes. First gold then silver to where their horn develops by the age of four. By seven years they mature and appear pure white." As for their food, "Their typical diet involves mainly grass and small vegetables." As few knew from that one incident when they escaped the forest.

Now then moving on, "As a few of you have mentioned, Adult Unicorns prefer women's presence over men's. Why do you think that is?"

As AJ's shrill shriek caused some of the animals to go beserk, Lux had to cover her ears. As a result she missed some of the other facts about Unicorns, but fortunately she had known pretty much everything beforehand. Unicorns were so lovely that she HAD to study them in depth - just like dragons!!

Not too sure why they preferred women, Lux raised her hand to offer a guess. "Maybe they see females as more gentle. Because of that they view them as being less of a threat to them and their babies." That made sense to her at least.

A few things didn't register while she was in her unicorn trance. One was the whole goose honking thing, and the other was that Zander had actually moved away from her. The animals reacting to her lady shrieks went completely unnoticed as well because UNICORNS.

5 precious points were being taken away from her just for loving unicorns? What an absolute outrage. It wasn't like she kicked a unicorn or something crazy. Apparently her volume of love just wasn't understood or appreciated. "5 points, professor?" She thought about arguing, but she didn't want to get kicked out of this lesson. AJ would just fall over and die if that happened to her. "I'm sorry. I'm just really excited is all."

Why was she forever being told to control herself? It wasn't as if she constantly walked into walls or something. At least he believed in her unicorn farm. That was the only thing Thompson had going for him at the moment. His old nickname of professor no fun came creeping back into her memory. AJ looked around and noticed that Zander seemed to be further away from her than he was at the beginning of the lesson. She tried to send him some positive brain waves. AJ hoped her little friend was okay.

Question time. This one was totes easy. Women were better, duh. Deciding not to go the cheeky route, she thought of a better response. She raised her hand. "Is it because women are normally smaller than men are, and seem more approachable because of it?"

Kevin raised an eyebrow as he looked at the students going gaga over the thought of unicorns. Espcially Zander , dude! Be a man! They were just horses with a horn on their heads geez. And what on EARTH was AJ doing?! He just stared at her, not knowing if to laugh or….ok he laughed because she just looked stupid. He didn’t even care that she lost points, because he couldn’t complain with the amounts he lost over the years.

Turning back to the Professor as he asked the next question, Kevin thought about it. His first instinct was to say something rude but mweh, he was not in the mood right now.
“Maybe the men used to try and hunt the unicorns in some time in history for sport?” he asked. “Even killing a few…?” if that was true than that was really sad.

UNICOOOORNS.

Were they going to get to see some?! Pet some?! Keep some?! Evie was bubbling with questions and excitement as the class started. She was even too excited to pay attention to the first question. The second question, however, she was prepared for.

Evie shot up her hand. "Women and generally more graceful, respectful, nurturing, and lovely than men," and many other things that she didn't have time to get into. "So, I think the unicorns can sense that. Unicorns are very smart and I like to think they have good intuition, so I think they can just tell that women are nicer and then they feel more comfortable and safe with us. Girl power. Unicorn power. Girls: 1 Boys: 0

This question had Toby completely stumped. He... had no idea. The Hufflepuff sat there beside the goose, frowning in thought and looking around at those in the class. He kept trying to generalise the genders to try and find some sort of common denominator, but everyone he knew was so different, it was hard to find something that really fit. Maybe they just... preferred being around girls. Did there have to be a reason?

"Are they... is it 'cause girls are......... cleaner?" Toby tried, hand in the air, still looking perplexed and only really basing his answer on the message from the noticeboard specifically for this class. Maybe it was to do with that. And then, without lowering his hand, Toby quickly added a question. "Professor, is age important too? Like... y'know how the younger ones don't mind men... does it work the other way around? Would they feel slightly more comfortable around young or teen boys as opposed to proper grown up men, or is it more like, all of the male gender, no exception?"

Angel looked at the Professor and raised her arm. "Professor, is it because we are prettier than boys and unicorn likes that." Angel thought she would guess, she had no idea what else the reason could be.

Janelle was glad that they had been asked a question that she could answer. Annnd for a change, there were actually some answers left by the time she was called on. Now it was time to move on and another unicorn question was presented.

Raising her hand excitedly, Janelle prepared to give her answer. "Unicorns like females because we're so awesome!" Well it was true. Everyone knew that. No offense to boys, but seriouly........who wouldn't prefer a girl?

It was interesting how Professor Thompson broke down the stages of growth and maturation for the unicorns. Cutty liked precise calculations. It made it easier to introduce chaos in his opinion. The unicorns that were in Hogsmeade not too long ago displayed the behaviour Thompson had just mentioned. Shying away from the boy students whilst not minding the female ones too much. Forming an idea, Cutty put his hand in the air and offered raw thoughts. "Maybe it's like dogs, Professor. Maybe, a long time ago, it helped the unicorns to survive to befriend witches and not wizards as we're more inclined to want to capture it. So all we have to this day are the descendents of those unicorns that survived because of their appeal to witches." Ha! Purity had nothing to do with it!

Why might unicorns prefer women over men?

Well that was a no brainer. Zeke raised his hand confidently. "Professor, women generally smell nicer, so the unicorns aren't as put off as they are around men." Yep. See. PERFECTLY LOGICAL answer right there. He was a genius in the making. But in all seriousness, animals had strong smelling senses did they not? And women DID smell better than men, did they not?

Mystery solved. Case closed.

Norah rocked back and forth on her toes a little as everybody else have their answers, deciding that bouncing would draw too much attention to her momentary un-teenagerness but she couldn't just stand still, y'know. Not when they were talking about UNICORNS.

Why'd they like girls better? DUH boys were capital G Gross. She didn't think Professor Thompson would appreciate that much, though, even though it was definitely 100% true if y'asked her. Standing still just long enough to answer, she put her hand in the air and offered, "I don't know why boy unicorns would be like this, but maybe girl unicorns--especially ones with babies--like girls better 'cause THEY can have babies too, so they feel safer 'cause they probably wouldn't steal any of the unicorns' babies." Which really didn't make much sense 'cause girl or not Norah still wanted her very own unicorn baby. Stealing was mean, though, so she probably wouldn't do that. Could there be anything worse in the entire universe than making a unicorn sad?

Oh yeah. Adi had expected something along those lines for AJ's response to finding out they'd be working with unicorns. Gosh. She was super excited O__O Even Adi didn't remember loosing his cool when Hippogriffs were around for a few lessons. But this was AJ. She probably loved unicorns more than he loved Griffs. He snorted. It was he who had told her he'd get her the unicorn farm. "Buuut if I get her one, she'll probably forget about me.'' Hmph. He continued to eye his girlfriend as Thompson addressed the class again.

The fifth year raised his hand after a bit of thought. This question had always kind of puzzled him. He had an idea or two, of course but the one which he was about to express was the one which seemed most logical to him. "Is it because girls or women are the ones who like unicorns more?'' A perfect example was AJ. "And the unicorns sense that so there's some sort of connection between them and the females?''

Uhhhhmmmmmm.......errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..........

Zahra scratched her ear as she thought this one through. Like yeah yeah SOME girls were prettier and SOME were better smelling and SOME were gentle, but that didn't really explain this whole unicorn preference thing.

Hum...............

OH! "Do you think Unicorns know about how all dudes pick their boogers AND eat them?" Maybe....?

Unicornsunicornsunicorns. Dot was excited, and excited Dot tended to WIGGLE. She was practically doing a dance as she anticipated the next question and raised her hand. Oh. Oh, no. Zeke stole her answer.

She raised her hand again. Anyway. "I think that unicorns are innocent and pure creatures, like in stories especially, and they like girls more because we wash our hands. So we won't get them dirty."

First off, Zander Adair did NOT pick his boogers. And even more certainly, he did NOT eat them. ALSO, none of this even added up because girl's were all so confusing. So much so that they gave Zander Adair the worst headaches. So wouldn't the unicorns want to hang around people who didn't give them headaches either? It didn't make any sense. He also wasn't buying this stuff about the washing hands and being dirtier thing. He kept up with hygiene thank you very much.

Though, admittedly, girls did smell nicer... Ever think that's because they get a cool Chamber in their bathroom though? Oh yeah. Had he mentioned, he went into the GIRL'S loo, everyone. Hehehe. But unicorns. That's what they were talking about here. Riiiight.

"Well girls have like this secret unspoken language or something," he knew about it, okay? He'd been a witness to the strange telepathy on more than one account. Mhm. "So maybe the unicorns are in on it too?" Or maybe it was because of the smell thing... But more likely, unicorns could speak girl. Or maybe girl's could just speak unicorn? Also, still edging away from AJ.
