It was particularly warm inside the classroom. December brought with it the freezing weather that usually turned the old professor's knees to creaking, rusty joints. Hence, the classroom was warm, warmer than the rest of the castle. The desks were spread out in three rows as usual with name tags on them that assigned students to their chairs. A bunch of belts were piled on the side of Botros' big desk in front of the blackboard. The old man himself was standing and leaning sideways on his desk on the small dais, his cane was in his hand though he didn't need it for support.
Walk in, take a seat and keep the chatting to a minimum, this isn't your first Ancient Runes class this year so you already know that professor Botros doesn't appreciate loud chatter.

- As mentioned, this isn't the first class, your character should know the professor so please act like it. :)

Awww, only the Sixth and Seventh Years could choose creatures. That sucked, because if she qualified Lux would have changed her selection of Ginny Weasley. No matter, at least she would get to keep her red hair this way even though Ariel ALSO had red hair.
Shrugging, Lux sent her desk along to one of the classroom walls.
Hopefully this would be fun because part of her felt that looking like another witch would be kind of weird. Mermaids were much better.

Now that Janelle had filled out her parchment, she was ready for the next step. Patting her pocket, she made sure the parchment was safely in place. Then she followed the Professor's instructions and pushed her desk against the wall. That task completed, Janelle joined her classmates in a large circle.
Janelle looked around, wondering who her classmates had chosen to shapeshift into. Guess she would know soon enough. Keeping an eye on Professor Botros, Janelle waited for the next set of instructions.

Folding the paper up as small as he could get it Kyroh quickly pushed it in his pocket. Would anyone even be able to tell who he was? Did shapeshifting mean changing appearance as WELL as clothes? Because if it meant clothes people would get it FOR SURE. But if it DIDN'T then...IT didn't matter. He'd know. Grinning happily the third year jumped up and moved his desk to the wall. Once THAT was taken are of he quickly joined the rest of the class in the middle of the room.

They were going to work on illusions. More specifically, runes that help with that. Beverly's interest rose and with that she wiggled in her seat. It involves the belts with runes. Were they going to activate said runes--ah, yes they were!
What or who would she like to be?
Her immediate thought was a dragon. She's been looking into sanctuaries to intern in the summer and dragons was all that roamed her mind lately. That wasn't reasonable. This was kind of tough.
She jotted the first name that came to mind...

The witch had appeared on her chocolate frog card Beverly had gotten right before the lesson. Why not?
Pocketing the parchment, the Prefect moved the desk toward the wall and stood next to her classmates in the circle. What were they going to do next?

So it was pretty obvious that Dot's classmates were braver than she was, since she'd put her own name on the parchment, and they were wanting to be animals and vegetables and other amazing things. Maybe no vegetables.
With a sigh, Dot dug out her parchment and scratched out her name. Who was she willing to be for the rest of class? Who wouldn't she mind getting stuck as if she did something wrong? A freckle-face grin nearby caught her attention, and Dot wrote down the name.
Did anyone else think of the signifigance of asking the students to form a circle? Why in all of the passage of time where humans could form together they did so in this formation? Fascinating study probably. Most definitely someone had written a paper on it.
After class he was SO gonna look that up, yo.
He did as he was told, though, and pushed his desk against the wall before flouncing to the circle.

Okay, so her guessing on what they were doing wasn't too far off. They were going to be seen as different people, which she guessed included superheroes if they wished. But Heather didn't wish that. She had no idea who she did wish to change into though. Did she want to be someone from history? Did she want to be on of her dormmates? Or a professor? Nah, better not make it a professor. Too weird. But there was one person in the news lately who she did want to change into. Heather thought this person was really pretty and cool. Just the way she handled things........
Okay, maybe not her, since most people seemed to not like the blond Minister candidate. So who else could she choose?
Oh, now she had an idea. She wrote the name on her parchment, tucked it away in her shirt pocket and moved her desk, joining the circle once she was finished.

"Booht, Professor Botros, I want to keep me own head." He said quite forgetting that the Professor (or anyone for that matter) would have no idea what he was on about. Couldn't have read the parchment already to know the choice Cutty had made or the reasons behind it, "Can I try an animal form as well? Is it much harder?"
"It is quite hard, my boy. We're using Runic magic instead of the regular transfiguration spells. Only six and seven year, please." He sent an apologetic look his way. Ambitious Slytherin as expected.

"While Runologists aren't sure what kind of spell the trickster Loki used to creature the illusion that obscured his true form, they suggested several theories." He continued to hand out those belts. "On those belts I'm handing over are a bunch of runes, the very runes that will change your appearance in others' eyes." He walked inside the circle and stood in the center expecting them all to look at him. "Four runes, all of which help you create an illusion, maintain it, and match the image in your mind.
"Fehu, its energy is wild and very useful for magic involving swift, radical changes. Kenaz, it is the rune of the artist and craftsman and is useful when creating things is very important. Ehwaz, this is a rune of abrupt changes and is good for initiating bold new ventures. Othala, is a rune that would maintain your form as long as you will it." Botros paused, having finished distributing the belts. "Those four runes will appear and start glowing once we chant the incantation specified for this task." So they couldn't see them now on their belts. "First, wear the belts please and turn around so you all face the other side." Their faces should be facing the walls.
"Repeat after me, please. And keep repeating until your runes are glowing. Once they glowed, it means your appearance changed. You won't be able to see your form because as I said it is just an illusion others can see, but I'll get you a mirror later." He beamed, obviously excited about this portion of class.
Now.. "Your main task is.." He walked out of the circle to stand at his desk at the front of the class. ".. once you're changed, you turn around and look at the others. You'll have to pick the most interesting form you find and try to figure out who are they by asking them only three questions." Botros wrote the task on the blackboard in case any of them didn't hear him. "Three questions, three guesses only. If you still don't get it, you lose. If you do guess right, you win. We'll talk about the reward later." Get it? It was just a game really, something to have fun with runes because he knew none of them would be interested in creating new runic spells. Too advanced for this class anyway.

- Botros listed what your characters are supposed to do on the blackboard so you just follow those instructions. :)
- The runes are carved and drawn by Abraham so they must work, your character won't mess up with that.
- Put the name of your character's new form in your post titles at all times, please.
- You're expected to have 5 posts for this activity, it is not hard, there are a lot of steps to play.
- I'll be around and so will Botros so you can ask questions if you want.
- We have a little over 48 hrs to finish this task.
- Remember to mainly have fun with this!

The posts can be distributed as such (but not necessarily):
1- Chant the incantation & have your runes glow.
2- Turn around & see everybody's new forms. Choose a partner.
3- Ask them 3 questions to try and figure out who they are. (they may choose another partner to ask, not necessarily try to guess who you are, too. So it doesn't have to be mutual asking & guessing.)
4- Once finished, approach the professor. (I'll get to you then and tell you what to do ;) )

Lucky sixth and seventh years. Adi wished he had been in either year or Botros had extended the list to include fifth years as well. Ah well. Maybe some other time he'd be lucky enough to be turned into a Hippogriff. Or an illusion at least.
Okay, so it seemed no one needed his help and they were moving on. He collected one of the black belts from his Head of House after he stepped up to form the circle and as the man handed them out while still telling them about Loki. Create, maintain and match image. Right! Got it!
Ahh! This game sounded COOL! Adi could hardly wait to start the guessing part of it. But first... the belt. He put it on, grateful that the runes had already been carved onto them. Not that that bit would have been difficult to do. Once the belt was on, he turned to face the other direction as instructed- the wall.

Okayyyyyy... so, Runes was awesome when the Professor did most the work for them. No deciding on Runes, no carving, all he had to do was put the belt looking thing on. EASY.
"Thanks, Professor," he said as he accepted his belt.
Not wasting any time, Zeke fastened it around his waste, looking down and fingering the Runes that were on it. Cool beans. He listened and nodded along as Botros explained how they worked, and it made SO much sense that he was confident he'd never have been able to come with it on his own.
They had to turn around?
...
BAH!
Zeke did as he was told, but he wasn't happy with staring at a wall when there was incantationing he was supposed to be doing... this was going to be SO hard. SOOOOO hard. He needed the board.
Listening carefully, and going from what he had seen, Zeke attempted to keep up and focused on the words.
"Fehu ....fehu fehu.... fu ..... fa fi -fi... fe fo, kenaz kenaz kenaz... kun kan kin ken kon... ehwo ehwo ehwo, othul othal othil othel othol-ol-ol..."
Whoops. So much fail.
But at least he'd been through it once, he was finding a rhythm. HE WAS!
Zeke kept chanting.
"Fehu fehu fehu, fu fa fi fe fo, kenaz kenaz kenaz, kun kan kin ken kon, ehwo ehwo ehwo, othul othal othil othel othol."
"Fehu fehu fehu, fu fa fi fe fo, kenaz kenaz kenaz, kun kan kin ken kon, ehwo ehwo ehwo, othul othal othil othel othol."
By the end of it, he was confident with his chant, and as he stared down at his belt, slowly but surely the runes started glowing. Slowly at first, but then brightly as he continued. Once they were as he thought they should be, nice and bright and strong, Zeke stopped chanting. Chanting was HARD business man, so many words to remember IN ORDER.

Looking at the wall, looking at the wall BLANKLY. That was what Adi was doing. Why? He had forgotten what he had to do next. LOL.
Oh! That's right! The chanting! Erm... so no more looking at the wall, then? He couldn't recall ALL the rune chanting words. He tilted his head slightly in the black board's direction. A little more... little more to the right... there! He hurried to catch up with the chanting.
"fehu, fu fa fi fe fo, kenaz kenaz kenaz, kun kan kin ken kon, ehwo ehwo ehwo, othul othal othil othel othol...fehu fehu fehu, fu fa fi fe fo, kenaz kenaz kenaz, kun kan kin ken kon, ehwo ehwo ehwo, othul othal othil othel othol...''On the second attempt Adi got all the words. His eyes trailed down to the belt as he continued with the chant. With each word, his confidence grew. So did the glow of the runes carved onto the belt!
Awesome!
The Puffer chanted for the words one more time. Did this mean that everyone was having the illusion that he was someone else? Man! He wished he could see himself. Anyway, time to find the most interesting person to him, yes?

Standing there in the circle in the center of the room Hady made sure to listen to all the instructions given by the Professor clearly. It really didn't seem to hard since she wouldn't need to carve out the runes herself. Accepting the belt from the Professor she gave a soft smile. "Thank you, Professor."
Gently running a finger over each rune as she looked at them. Doing as told she turned around with her back to everyone facing the wall. Strange but okay. Fixing the belt around her waist she fastened it there snugly. Alright what was next? Chanting or something right? Yeah, yeah that was it.
Nodding slightly to herself Hady closed her eyes to focus her concentration. She closed her mind off to everyone else in the room but the Professor focusing on his chanting. Slowly the twelve year old began to chant over and over word for word...
"fehu fehu fehu, fu fa fi fe fo, kenaz kenaz kenaz, kun kan kin ken kon, ehwo ehwo ehwo, othul othal othil othel othol."
"fehu fehu fehu, fu fa fi fe fo, kenaz kenaz kenaz, kun kan kin ken kon, ehwo ehwo ehwo, othul othal othil othel othol."
Gosh this wasn't easy! It began to give her a headache but she kept up with it determined to make the runes on her belt glow as they should.
Angel was totally looking forwards to seeing what would happen here, she wanted to change into this person badly, her great, great grandfather had loved the musician and she had listened to some of the songs and they were great now though she had a few others things she had to do before she could look like the dude.
Angel put one of the belts on, she was so glad the rune was carved in already because otherwise she was sure she would be here over a month trying to carve the rune. Now she would practice saying the incantation.

Time to finally get to changing! Caleb was so excited! As everyone around him started to get to work, changing their appearances left and right, he focused on his belt, making sure it was on nice and tight before getting to the chanting bit.
Alright, that was on - time to get started! Caleb closed his eyes and focused on the appearance of his person...
"fehu fehu fehu, fu fa fi fe fo, kenaz kenaz kenaz, kun kan kin ken kon, ehwo ehwo ehwo, othul othal othil othel othol....fehu fehu fehu, fu fa fi fe fo, kenaz kenaz kenaz, kun kan kin ken kon, ehwo ehwo ehwo, othul othal othil othel othol..." he chanted. The runes were always the hardest part of all this, but they started glowing, which meant he was doing SOMETHING right!
Ok, the runes were REALLY glowing now. Did that mean he had changed? Gah, he needed a mirror NOW Botros!

Since the runes were all glowing, Caleb was sure that he had fully transformed into the pudgy faced Longbottom - now he just had to find someone to work with! He looked around and found...Ginny Weasley standing next to him? COOL! He'd go with this person, because Ginny and Neville had been like BFFs - so maybe he'd be able to figure out who was behind the mask rather easily? Let's hope.
"YOU! Your hair is really cool," he said with a grin. "Since you are clearly Ginny Weasley and I am Neville Longbottom, we should try and figure out our identities!" he told her.
Alright, onto the questions..."So, um...are you in the same house that Ginny was in at school?" he asked her.

Angel looked at her stuff and now she had a few things to do to get this person she want to be, but first it was time to take a deep breath.

Benny stood in his place on the circle, listening as Professor Botros continue lecturing them on Loki and his tricks. When the man was before him, he accepted the offered belt with anticipation. His eyes falling over the runes carved within the leather as the runes professor went over just what each of them meant and explained what effect they would be likely doing during the course of their activity. The fifth year was listening as intently as he could, hoping to remember enough to take down into his notes later.
Putting on the belt as instructed, Benny turned to face the wall and doing his best not to look to either side of him and register who was nearby. It would likely ruin the illusion in some way hence why Botros was taking the precaution. Then as the chanting of the galdr was begun, the Gryffindor repeated it as best he could, adjusting it in his speech as he got a hang of it to match better.
"Fehu fehu fehu, fu fa fi fe fo, kenaz kenaz kenaz, kun kan kin ken kon, ehwo ehwo ehwo, othul othal othil othel othol. Fehu fehu fehu. fu fa fi fe fo..."

Wait a minute here. Botros was letting the older kids try our creatures? How UNFAIR was that? Sure, she was happy about being able to turn into a boy, but that lasted for all of five seconds once she realized that others got to do cooler stuff. She was just about to protest about the injustice of it all when the professor was moving on. A game? AJ's ears perked up, and for a moment she forgot why she was upset. She was in competition mode. The game actually sounded pretty legit.
When Botros handed her the belt that was needed, she quickly put it on. Thank goodness the runes were done for them, and that they didn't have to think about what runes were needed because she would NEVER get past that part of the task.
Merlin, that chant was long. How was she supposed to remember all that? AJ turned to face the wall and gave the chant a go. fehu fehu fehu, fe, fi, fo, fum." SNORT. That was not it. Not it at all. fehu fehu fehu, fu fa fi fe fo." That was better, but what came after that? A lightbulb went off in her head. All she had to do was think about it like a pattern.
"fehu fehu fehu, fu fa fi fe fo, kenaz kenaz kenaz, kun kan kin ken kon, ehwo ehwo ehwo, othul othal othil othel othol" Yaaaay. She was sure that she had gotten it correct because as if on cue the runes started to glow. Awesome! It was time to play the guessing game.

But there was the challenge, how was one to know they were ready? Trusting runes to be glowing seemed to be a little weak in his opinion. What if his illusion was flickering? Hmm? What then?!

You know it was really a shame to not be able to see herself because Babe Ruth had died long before her time, and she heard so many great stories about him that it would be nice to see him in the flesh... sort of. AJ slowly turned around trying to be all dramatic. Truth be told she wanted someone to shout out something along the lines of 'oh my goodness it's Babe Ruth' and for some reason she seriously doubted that would happen.
As she looked around the classroom she saw many different faces, and none that recognized off the top of her head so far. Deciding on a challenge she went for someone disguised as some chick. AJ was drawing a complete blank on this one, and decided to go for it. Go big or go home, right?
The lion closed the distance between the two of them. "Sup? Can I guess who you are?" You will notice that she didn't say 'try' because she was totally going to guess right and get that prize that the professor vaguely talked about.

Since the runes were all glowing, Caleb was sure that he had fully transformed into the pudgy faced Longbottom - now he just had to find someone to work with! He looked around and found...Ginny Weasley standing next to him? COOL! He'd go with this person, because Ginny and Neville had been like BFFs - so maybe he'd be able to figure out who was behind the mask rather easily? Let's hope.
"YOU! Your hair is really cool," he said with a grin. "Since you are clearly Ginny Weasley and I am Neville Longbottom, we should try and figure out our identities!" he told her.
Alright, onto the questions..."So, um...are you in the same house that Ginny was in at school?" he asked her.
Wow, didn't take long for her to find a partner and looked like it was Neville Longbottom. Awesome, because Lux had always liked reading about him and how he had helped Harry Potter by killing Voldemort's snake!
"Thanks, Neville! This sounds like fun!" They were going to be such a good team and she wondered if she knew him or not. Hehe, soon she would find out.
First question, and it was a good one. "Nope, but I wish I was!" Big hint for anyone who knew her. Now it was her turn to ask something. "Are you a Prefect?" That could narrow things down a bit...or not.

The Puffer chanted for the words one more time. Did this mean that everyone was having the illusion that he was someone else? Man! He wished he could see himself. Anyway, time to find the most interesting person to him, yes?

Benny continued to chant the incantation over and over again, trying not to leave any breaks between phrases too long. And trying to imagine the man that he had written down on his parchment. One cool dragon keeper from the days of Harry Potter. Oh look... were those runes now a different color? No, they were now GLOWing. Which meant he had done it, he had set up his belt and the magic within them all was working. So he was now illusioned if he had done it all correctly.
So the Gryffindor turned around as he had been instructed to do. There were classmates of all sorts and peoples. Who was he going to pick out of the bunch? Benny looked around until he spotted someone who looked vaguely familiar and went to approach him.

Next step: Proceed to find someone most interesting looking to him. Adi looked around at the illusioned persons and was mighty surprised to see Johnny Cash there. Adi was a HUGE FAN of the dude. Yup. But it wouldn't be fun to go to the person illusioned as the singer since Adi already knew it was Cash. Too bad.
He continued to gaze around. Oh look! Someone was approaching him. Cool! He wondered who was under this illusion... and who the illusion was since it looked very familiar though he couldn't place the name quite yet. Ah, well. That was a good thing.
The Puffer did have one important question to ask first, however. "Are you a Weasley?'' The flaming red hair and freckles were enough to give it away but he decided to be sure and if he was correct, it would narrow down his guess work by quite a bit.
