When you've cracked the bronze knocker's riddle, which should be fairly easy on opening feast night, the door will swing open to reveal the entrance to the Ravenclaw Common Room. Coming inside you’ll see the floor-to-ceiling windows that span around the airy, wide, and circular room. A look through them shows a magnificent view of the school grounds and nearby mountain range. On a clear night you can see the stars and even the lights in Hogsmeade houses. The walls are covered in bronze and blue silk hangings, and the midnight blue carpet covering the floor is decorated with stars, just as the domed ceiling.
Placed on the center of the curved wall is a large fireplace with plenty of navy blue sofas and armchairs placed around it, as well as a few bookcases and tables. Today the tables are filled with a wide selection of sweets from Honeydukes, desserts, and refreshments like soda and juice and, if you couldn't get anything down at the feast, a meaty sandwich or two. A sound coming from the staircase leading up to the boys dormitories draws your attention to Mr Kitridge that is sitting on top of a giant pink matress with a wide-eyed looked about his face as the matress begins to pick up pace as it slide's down the stairs with a loud WHOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!
OOC: Welcome newbies, resortees, and returning eagles to a night of fun! Gather around Mr Kitridge and he’ll give you all matrasses to join in the fun. Both the boys and girl's staircases to the dorms have been enlongated and glissieod for the night. So come have FUN! The regular common room rp threads will open in about 2 days.

"Oh, you're welcome and thank you," Samantha said as she placed the Bertie Bott's box and peppermint toad into the pocket of her robes and sat down next to Huxley. She had an idea about who might like them. "I am not new. I am a fifth year but because of the fact I spent my previous school years by myself and really just doing classes that our paths never crossed before. I am hoping to make more friends but I want to have the time to study due to the OWLs I'll be taking this term."

Someone was waving to her. An older someone. An older someone with very bright eyes. Maddie considered them for a second, deciding they were a very nice shade of blue. Maddie liked blue best so she stuck her hand under her chin and wiggled her fingers in greeting. Hi hello, person. Enjoying that food you STUFFED in your mouth? The brunette was sure enjoying HERS. Kitridge had done well on the food front.
But wait, why wasn't Freckles wearing a shirt? Had someone STOLEN his shirt or was this some sort of statement he was trying to make? If HE didn't have to wear a shirt then OTHERS would think THEY didn't have to wear shirts and it'd be ANARCHY. The small brunette smiled at the thought. Now was no time for an uprising, though. There was mattress surfing going on. FUN. So she GUESSED she'd help her best f-word look for his missing article of clothing.
"His NAME is Kyroh." Not THING. Never THING. Maddie had dropped to her knees and was EYEING the older girl sardonically. What was that shirt she'd given him, anyway? Couldn't she just SUMMON his shirt FOR him? Or maybe she wasn't the helpful sort. The small brunette would need to find out.
Penelope WAS the helpful sort, it seemed. Given that she'd taken off her robes for the boy and all. "I think he's just trying to steal people's clothes," Maddie deadpanned as she too made her way under the table. It was only a moment before she grinned and nudged the boy in the side. "Kidding. Really, though. How does one lose a shirt?"
Sam shook Tessa's hand. "It is nice to meet you, Tessa. I am a Fifth Year. How are you finding Hogwarts so far? I am always there if you need someone," she said with a smile. Samantha took a small sip of her soda and coughed. "Sorry, that went down the wrong way," she said after she had gotten her breath back. "Anyway, any classes you're looking forward to taking this year?"
"I really like it, it's so vast and huge," Tessa replied, picturing the view of the castle as they came in on the boats. Tessa laughed softly as she saw Sam choke on the soda, she nodded she often wasn't careful and done the same thing. "I think I'm looking forward to potions, it seems quite interesting to say the very least," Tessa replied.

That was until his head of house came sliding out on a pink mattress and made Jun drop his cookie.
HE. DROPPED. HIS. COOKIE.
Looking down at his now broken cookie, Jun's eyes flew towards Mr. Kitridge and his pink mattress. Pink. P I N K. Wide-eyed, the boy walked towards the librarian and tapped his shoulder. "Sir, does the headmistress know you stole her mattress? She might come here and change everything to PINK. Even our house colors and robes!" Nope. We can't have that. "Sir, I don't look good in pink!"
When the mattress slid to a stop on the floor Leo clambered back up onto his feet a little unsteady which was when he was tapped on the shoulder by Jun. Turning slightly to face the head boy he said reassuringly. "The headmistress loaned me this mattress Jun. She isn’t going to come in here and change the decor into something very pink. The common room is safe I promise." Kneeling down to pick up the cookie he handed it to Jun. "I think you lost this? Why don't you eat something or try surfing on a mattress? It’s fun!"

"Good evening Charlie, come grab a mattress with Jun and try surfing. It’s fun!" Leo beamed at the seventh year girl. "It's perfectly safe. I know I’ve tried it out." He commented. Hopefully they'd all get surfing in a bit. They just needed to unwind a bit he reasoned. They’d get there.

At the sound of a familiar voice Leo turned to Sophie Brown with a broad beam. "Evening Sophie," pushing the mattress towards her he smiled. "I can change the colour if you want. You should try surfing. It's really fun!" HINT! HINT!
"Did you have a good summer vacation?" Leo queried curiously.

Why not try some candy or even come over and surf on a mattress? If you think it’s scary you can always try surfing first with someone." He’d volunteer but it was probably better if the young girl surfed together with Jun or Jasmine.

Speaking of Jasmine, there she was. Waving in the seventh year prefect’s direction Leo called out cheerfully. "Evening Jasmine,”
"Did you have a good summer vacation?" He had certainley enjoyed every minute of his. Hopefully the seventh year girl had too.

MAYBE THIS WAS A NEW PARTY GAME!?
Leo's eyes drifted over the eagles as they milled into the common room one after the other. Kyroh Scabior’s entrance caused Leo to leave the mattresses and walk over with a raised brow to the boy scampering around on the floor looking for his lost piece of clothing. "Kyroh, where is your shirt? Did you lose it on the way from the feast to the common room?" Someone couldn’t have stolen it right?

Walking back to the mattresses Leo pulled out his wand and cast sonorous silently as he looked out over the so far assembled eagles. "Welcome to Hogwarts both new and old eagles. For those of you who don't know me I'm Mr Leobald Kitridge your Head of House and school librarian." Pointing to the matrasses at his feet he continued with enthusiasm. "I've brought a bunch of mattresses and I've made the stairs slippery and long so let's surf everyone and have some fun. It's perfectly risk free. If you think riding on a mattress is scary then try with a peer. The mattresses should be big enough to fit two people." Turning to his house prefects he beckoned them forwards "Jun and Jasmine grab a mattress each and a peer to start us off." Hint! Hint! If the prefect’s showed the way then the others would follow suit.
Ooc: Mr Kitridge has provided mattresses for everyone. So grab one and surf to your character’s heart content either solo or with a friend/peer. The party is officially open! If you’re charrie isn’t the slippery surfing type then eat candy and drink soda and chat and get to know the other eagles. Any questions give me a poke via vm/pm.
"I am glad to hear that you like Hogwarts. Potions can be very interesting and I wish you all the best in your studies. I am partial to Charms myself. I just love that class." Samantha told Tessa.
Charms. That was cool, Tessa nodded her head in understanding. She really didn't know what else to say, before remembering about the squid. "Is there really a giant squid in the lake?" she asked.
Hogwarts was AWESOME! They were having an amazing house party with mattresses and everyone in the house. Maybe Ravenclaw wasn't as annoying and studious as her sister made it seem. And there was candy! Because that was like all Ophelia ever ate. She was eleven, it was normal. Yep, completely and totally normal. When she was a kid, the sweet little girl only wanted to eat fish steaks and tater tots. It got to the point where they had to put her long blonde hair into two thick pigtails to make sure that the ketchup wouldn't get in her hair. Kids weren't the cleanest things in the world.
Not feeling very mattress surfey right now --she did that enough at home when her mom and siblings were somewhere else-- the short girl went right for the candy and soda. Because that was where her heart was. Food. Sighing, the firstie realized if she kept eating like this, she would lose all of the muscle she gained by running through the woods like a wolf. Or through the savannah like a lion. Anyway, food.

That was the only word that Thornton could think of to describe what was happening in front of him. He had been at parties before, sure, but they were the sort of gatherings full of adults in formal attire, with soft classical music playing, and kitchen staff circulating with trays of appetizers. Parties where Thornton would make an appearance in his dress robes, greet guests, and perhaps dance with his mother or offer a cello solo.
This? This was madness.
Thornton could feel beads of sweat at his temples, threatening to run down the side of his face, and he dabbed at them with his sleeve. He wandered over to the table of food, but the array of sweets and sodas was completely foreign to him, and he feared making another mistake as he had on the train with the Bott's beans. Chewing nervously on the inside of his mouth, he kept moving, only to find himself far too close to the mattresses and the surfing for his comfort.
His heart beat faster and his blinked rapidly, scanning the room. THERE. There was a quiet corner where no one would see him... he hoped.
Weaving through the crowd of Ravenclaws, Thornton squeezed into the small space between an armchair and the wall, curling up on the floor with his knees to his chest.

Noo....there wasn't a shirt under this table. Sigh. It had been a GOOD shirt too. Kyroh peaked out from underneath the table just in time to have a piece of clothing thrown at his head. Uh....."I'm a boy." In case she didn't know. He was. OR like Maddie had said he was a Kyroh. Because YEAH! He was that too!
Holding up the shirt that the girl had given him, Kyroh titled his head. "This isn't mine. I'm pretty sure it's for girls." He couldn't wear girl clothes could he? Hm. Well maaaaybe? But- "Don't think I'd look good in this." He tossed it back to the older girl. Not enough stripes.
ANOTHER Ravenclaw to the rescue though! "No thank you Penelope, its too hot for robes" Nonono he just needed a shirt. Preferably his. But HELP sounded like a good idea. He looked over at the Professor who had started to speak. "Maybe it's under the mattresses?" Don't ask him how it would have gotten there. Kyroh didn't even know how he lost it.
How DID one lose a shirt indeed. "I don't know Bodie but-" Kyroh patted his chest and even poked at his belly. "-SEE?! No shirt!" SEE? She could. She was the smart one and she had eyes and she was already helping and Kyroh would have HUGGED his best friend IF he had a shirt on because he couldn't just hug her WITHOUT a shirt!
Uh-oh. Turning his head to Kitridge, the second year stood up slowly. "I don't know Sir! Maybe? Do you have it? Did you take it by accident!?" It HAD been a nice shirt, maybe he just wanted to borrow it, even if it probably wouldn't fit him. Either way, he wouldn't get in trouble right?

It would be curfew soon, right?
Bryant(aka Finn) had walked up the stairs with his girlfriend, following the hoard of other Ravenclaws. He wasn't really into talking to a lot of people tonight as he was still tired from the train ride. Popping through the doorway and into the common room, the fifth year's eyes grew a little as he turned and mouthed 'wow' towards his girlfriend. Did they do this often on the first night? He glanced around and saw mattress sliding on the stairs, food on the table, and people everywhere. He said bye to his girlfriend for a little bit to go over and grab something to eat when someone caught his eye.
Where was the firstie going? It wasn't time for bed yet...
Finn tried to squeeze through the group like the ickle had done, kinda making his way, though not nearly as easily. He caught up just in time to see the boy squeeze behind an armchair. Coughing a little to announce his presence, he spoke, "Hey... you ok, bud?"

Too hot for robes? He thought it was too hot for robes, so he was just going to run around the common room without a shirt on? "I would give you a shirt, but I need my shirt. Mr. Kitredge might be able to conjure a shirt or transfigure something into a shirt if you don't want the robes." She was not going to let Kyroh go around the school without a shirt on. "If you lost it before you got to the common room, why would it be under the mattresses?"
Penelope had lots of questions about how Kyroh could have lost his shirt. "You were wearing a shirt when you got to Hogwarts, right? Did you have a shirt on when you came to the common room? Peeves didn't steal it, did he? How can you not know how you lost your shirt? When did you lose it?"

He'd buried his face in his knees, so it took Thornton a few moments to realize that he was 'bud.'
"'s Thornton," he mumbled, planting his chin on his knee and not making eye contact with the older boy. He wasn't quite sure what he was feeling. It wasn't quite sadness. And it wasn't quite shyness. It was... just wanting to be invisible. Or at least to feel knowledgeable.
Discomfort. That's what this was.
He squeezed his knees tighter. So much for the spot where no one could find him. He sighed, audibly. "I.. I just don't know what I'm supposed to do."

Jasmine watched as Mr. Kitridge surfed on his pink mattress. Then the Head of House waved at her. "Hello Mr. Kitridge. How are you?". Well he was certainly full of enthusiasm today. "My summer was great. It went by a little too quickly though. How was your summer?"
Wait, what? Mr. Kitridge wanted her to set things off by surfing herself. Okaaay. The only mattress that Jasmine had planned on laying on was the one attached to her bed upstairs, but........she'd play along. Standing up, she walked toward the stairs and stopped to grab a mattress on the way. "Anyone wanna ride shotgun?", Jasmine asked. If she didn't have any takers, Jasmine would have to go it alone.

Poor kid looked so terrified, curled up in a ball behind the seat.
"Welcome to Ravenclaw, Thornton. I'm Finn." The fifth year said, looking over the edge of the seat at the young boy. What a way to be introduced to a foreign school, unless the kid had an older sibling or something. Finn slumped down sitting sideways in the armchair so that it seemed normal-ish to someone looking over, so as to preserve the little kid's dignity if he decided to come out.
"Are ya hungry?" He asked, glancing at the table of food and sweets. "If ya are, I can show ya some good snacks... or if not, you could go mattress sliding." Finn said, watching people slide down the stairs like Professor Kitridge had done before. Or if the kid really wanted, he could stay behind the chair until the party was over and then could sneak up to his dorm, but the fifth year didn't mention that to start with.

He pulled his bottom lip in as he considered. "I'm.. I'm not allowed sweets at home," he admitted timidly. "I don't know what any of that stuff is..." He sighed, sitting up and resting his back against the wall. He stared up at the ceiling and closed his eyes for a few moments. Opening them, he let out a sound that was half sigh, half grunt. "What use is it coming from a wizarding family if you still don't know anything?"
He gestured toward toward the mattress surfing. "And that? They'd summon me back home the second they found out that this passed for a school activity."

Though she did take a moment to appreciate that Lincoln was perfectly happy about what they had walked into and that no one had given her a dirty look yet. So far, everyone seemed to be pretty nice. She retreated from her thoughts and observing to shuffle closer to Lincoln and offer her hand to him. Did he really need her to hold things for him? She was pretty sure the treats weren't going to disappear in the next second. But he was excited and that made her feel more at ease in the situation as a whole, so she would definitely humor him. The blonde blushed, feeling her cheeks heat up when she realized the other girl had waved at her. Oh. That was... that was unexpected. Pietra offered a shy sort of smile in return and hoped that the redness on her cheeks wasn't too dark.

She was feeling all responsible for them, at the moment, and there was no way she was going to let Head Boy Jun or Prefect Jasmine do their duties with these two. HER turn, thank you very much. Maybe she'd get a special badge that said 'Pinc Pi and Linc's prefect only' on it? Would that be ridiculous?
On her way to see them, though, she turned at the sound of a voice saying her name. Slightly confused, it took her a moment to place the face, but as her frown cleared up it turned to a smile. "Yes, of course I remember!" Still towering over her, obviously. "How're you finding everything?"
She noted that Charlie had been on her way in their direction and she knew that the older girl knew they were there too because she'd waved earlier. Pi was getting herself ready, trying to stay calm about the pretty girl who was dating Linc's older brother to be THERE when she saw that she'd stopped to talk to the girl who had been waving. That meant she had a few spare moments for calming breaths, which was always a good thing.

He sighed, sitting up and resting his back against the wall.
Finn's eyebrows went up a little when he heard that Thornton wasn't allowed sweets at home, but did his best to hide the shock. "Well..." the fifth year started, studying the table of food for something not so sweet. All he could really see was sweets and a little bit of sandwich stuff. "I'm sure we could get you an apple or something from the kitchens if you really wanted." he commented, glancing around the room for their head of house. "Or you could make a sandwich.... or try out some of the sweets." As long as the kid was ready for a sugar high after trying it.
"Don't worry about not knowing a whole lot. There's a whole ton of people in the same boat as you. You just have to be willing to try even if you have no idea what you're doing." Finn said, trying to make the kid a little more comfortable with the situation. "I barely knew anything about the school when I came here a year ago." All he knew was that he'd be learning magic like at his other school.
As for the mattress surfing... Finn wasn't too fond of the idea either, but it was kinda something that happened occasionally. "Yeah, um, that only happens sometimes when people get a little too hyped up on sugar. But it's fun! And what your family doesn't know can't really hurt 'em, right?" Or at least he hoped. Thornton would be fine as long as he didn't owl his parents about it, right?

Thornton dropped his hands into his lap and finally turned his head to look at the boy directly. "It's just all.. so different from how things are at home. There, I know exactly what to expect and exactly what's expected of me. I thought if I just kept doing what I've been doing my whole life, it would be fine."
Thornton sighed. "But it's only the first night and already people have looked at me funny for how I've always been taught to introduce myself, I've been told my name is too much to say, and grown men jump on tables and slide down stairs on bedding. I.. I just don't know." He trailed off at the end and looked away. Part of him was telling him to stop burdening this stranger with his insignificant issues. But the other part of him was relieved to say it to someone.
He let the silence hang for a moment as he drummed his fingers on his knee. With a resolute nod, he faced forward.
"I want to try the candy!" Rising to his feet, he moved to stand in front of the chair. "Finn, would you show me what your favorite candy is?"

I am a fifth year but because of the fact I spent my previous school years by myself and really just doing classes that our paths never crossed before. I am hoping to make more friends but I want to have the time to study due to the OWLs I'll be taking this term."
"Like to keep to yourself huh?" the brunette sighed a martyred sigh as she eyes slid her gaze disdainfully around them. "I know exactly what you mean." Pat pat the other girl's hand. Empathy, she has it.
Her interest picked up just a tad when the blonde mentioned about OWLs "Oh a Fifth year are you? OWLs... yes quite fun those are." she smiled. Clearly she did well with her exams. Was her companion nervous about the tests? The question would be more did Huxley care? "Do you plan to take all the OWLs offered this year?"

Little one glaring? Huxley spared her a mere glance before adding "Ah well, with a name like that its no wonder why he would resort to scuttling around like a desert bug." she giggled in spite of herself. Funny she found it yup "Oh but all this KNEELING at my feet, this is good, quite right indeed." Smiling her sarcastically sweet smile at the ickle brunette. She is quite enjoying this alas.
And now from the aforementioned desert bug-- he is a boy and the shirt was for a girl. "Why yes, thank you for the lessons Captain Obvious." the upperclassman retorted as she caught the blouse with her wand, folded it in midair and tucked it neatly back in her bag. "I was rather more concerned with the sight of a flesh colored grasshopper crawling about." Look look looooks. Had he been a flesh colored not-grasshopper this would probably be a very different conversation. He'd probably be looking for his pants too.
SPOILER!!: Kitridge

"I've brought a bunch of mattresses and I've made the stairs slippery and long so let's surf everyone and have some fun. It's perfectly risk free. If you think riding on a mattress is scary then try with a peer. The mattresses should be big enough to fit two people." Turning to his house prefects he beckoned them forwards "Jun and Jasmine grab a mattress each and a peer to start us off." Hint! Hint! If the prefect’s showed the way then the others would follow suit.[/FONT]
Oh good Mr Ravenclaw has now gotten up and greeted them. The brunette stood up thankfully, eager for all this mattress sliding madness to end. Or perhaps maybe not. Deadpanning at her Head of House actually encouraging such madness she strode up confidently at the curly haired man and cooed sweetly "Do we all have to Mr Kitridge? I mean, I have a much better use of a mattress." Specifically something that starts with beauty and ends with sleep.

"I am a Fifth Year. I think I'll be taking all of the OWLs. I do put a bit of pressure on myself when it comes to my studies. That's due to always hearing and seeing my parents' old school reports and accolades. They were top in each of their respective schools. How did you go with yours? Oh, are you doing NEWTs this year?"
Samantha inhaled a large breath after talking because she had spoken really rapidly due to nerves.

Well it all goes tumbling out now doesnt it?
Huxley listened, perhaps not so much to what the other girl was stating plainly but more so the understated things "So the parental unit is quite the role model is it? Wishing the same unease and misery onto you with your scholastic achievements?" she smirked "Oh how fortunate you must feel."
"How did mine go... with my OWLs?" Paaaause for effect "Practically perfect in every way-- Twelve O's" she batted her lashes and smiled a Poppin-esque smile. No pressure eh? "Yes on the NEWTs of course. OWLs can only get you so far in the world...." Not that she would care much for work that would require these. Huxley sought something far greater than a desk job.

Sam gave a dry laugh at Huxley's words about her parents. "Oh, how right you are about mother and father. What makes things frustrating is not them but people they knew from their schools constantly mentioning it whenever they meet. Personally, I think my parents get annoyed by that too. Hmm, maybe that's why they have the types of careers they do have."
Twelve Os?! "Wow! I just hope I pass the exams. I wish you all the best with your NEWTs this year.
