Feel like looking at some stars? You've come to the right place. From here in the Hogwarts Observatory you can see a tiny fraction of the 400 billion or so stars found in the Milky Way Galaxy. This circular but spacious room has been locked and opened as many times as there have been Astronomy professors staffed at the school. The huge telescope that former Hogwarts Astronomy professor, Professor Anteres, had put in years ago is still here and fully operable. Students are very welcome to try and use it. If you need a hand Professor Flamsteed is always somewhere close by and can lend you assistance. If the giant telescope is too much there is always smaller telescopes stored away in the cupboards around the room which you can borrow and use as you please as well as other astronomy objects.
Large star charts are pinned to the walls which anyone is free to study for own leisure or school assignment. Don't try and take the charts down though, as they are charmed to warn if somebody tries to remove them.
Stargazing is an activity best practiced at night and therefore the observatory remains unlocked. Students adhere by a curfew and after that hour no students should be found out of bed. If you desire to study the heavens after curfew, you need a signed note from Professor Flamsteed showing that you are allowed to stay up after hours. If caught after hours without a signed note you can expect that there will be consequences like loss of house points or detention.
The observatory is place for scientific inquiry much like the library is a place to immerse yourself in books, since it’s a shrine to our massively beautiful universe. Please respect any teacher or student spending time in the observatory by not running around or shouting in high pitched voices. Just because Professor Flamsteed isn't currently in the observatory doesn't mean he isn't watching what is going on.
OOC: you do not HAVE to RP your character asking permission from Professor Flamsteed in his office before posting here after hours and may pretend that you received permission. Also, please keep in mind that while looking at the stars can be a romantic endeavor, that is not the purpose of the observatory and any mischief may result in points being deducted or detention.
"STUDENTS SNOGGING IN THE OBSERVATORY, STUDENTS SNOGGGGGGGG"
...and there he was exactly how Peeves hoped. Good 'ol Professor Planets all in a hustle to catch the students. Peeves began to cackle and moved closer to the professor.
"Students were Snogging, yes they were. Students were snogging and waiting on you."
Swooping closely to the boy (Connor) he made kissy noises towards him and moved all close moving his arms around himself like he was showing the Professor what they were really not doing.
More cackles as he moved back towards Flamsteed.
"Knew you'd come Professor, knew you wouldn't miss out on the chance."

The astronomer's nostrils were still flaring quite a bit as his blue eyes darted around the Observatory as Peeves went on with his little shindig - only half paying attention to the poltergeist because he was a man on a MISSION. Justine...that was Miss Javier's first name, yes? Was she hiding around her somewhere? Under a telescope? Behind the large one? WHERE?
The astronomer had made a complete circle around the area by the time both the living and dead were done saying their piece and, despite the vein in his forehead still pulsing a little, his expression softened just a little. Meaning that the absurd scowl he had been wearing until now and turned into a more neutral expression. Oh, right, that one Ravenclaw student he had passed during his mad dash from the laboratory had most likely been Miss Javier...
Well then...
"I believe you, Mr. Jones," he said, gaze briefly falling on Peeves. It would be highly illogical to take the poltergeist's word over the Gryffindor's, after all. "As for you, despite quite enjoying that little burst of cardio exercise, don't you have a Bloody Baron to go pester?"

Thornton was fussing with setting up the strange telescope, sighing. He hoped that Professor Flamsteed's letter home would do the trick. He missed his telescope and knowing how to set it up with his eyes closed. The large one was just not even something he would dream of touching, and the smaller loaner ones were just unfamiliar enough.
Signed note in his pocket, Thornton sighed. But this would have to do. There weren't written notes for dragging your blanket out onto the grounds and just staring heaven-ward for hours.

"I think I have it mostly figured, it's just a little different from the one I have at home," he said finally, sighing. Flicking a knob, he turned back to her. "Maybe you could look at it and see if it's set up ok?"
He stepped to the side to give her access and eyed her bag on the floor. She was... clearly prepared for something. "What are you planning to look at tonight?"

Leaning over, he look a look through, attempting to focus on a cluster of stars. "No, thank you, though," he responded, to the query about the blanket. He'd be warm enough, he supposed. And besides, she'd clearly brought two for herself since there would have been no reason for her to assume she'd find another person here. It would be rude to take something she'd clearly brought for herself, he reasoned.
"I'm looking at Cygnus tonight," he said, adjusting the telescope to get a better look.

Leo had told Cassie that they needed to talk right after the book club meeting. Not unlike many of the other book club meetings he had held lately this one didn't end as planned either. It wasn't until after dinner that Leo found himself taking the stairs to the Astronomy Tower and the Observatory instead of going to check in with his eagles like he did every night just before curfew.
Entering the quiet observatory Leo walked up to stand next to the giant telescope, to gaze up at the mesmerizing star lit sky.

And then there was the whole mess with the book that had turned Cassie into an Evil Queen and had made her act even odder then she had done lately.
When she finally came into the Observatory and said his name Leo turned around to face her. "Hi Cassie," Shoving his hands in his robe pockets not let her see how nervous he was he asked worriedly "Are you all right? I'm sorry I didn't understand at the prefect event that you weren't acting out a role in one of Nessas plays but actually in need of my help."

I watched Cosgrach think he was the Beast so I was able to understand there was nothing anyone could have done." She couldn't help but chuckle as he said about Nessa, "That would have been a great thing if it was true. She would love to act out things. " She still wanted her friend to put on a play here at school. "I do need to apologize to you though. I am sorry for acting the way that I did, though I don't remember doing it." She just had to go by what she had been told.

She fidgeted as he talked about her being the evil queen and what she had done. Chewing the inside of her lip she felt like a small child ashamed for what she had done. "I'm so sorry, I can't believe I acted that way. Nothing about this Queen's personality fits my own. Eden and Penelope told me that I was very mean in class, obsessed with Snow White, even gave Eden detention by sending her to the dungeons." She didn't remember
any of it though. So it was so hard to figure out. Her eyes stayed at the ground not really wanting to look at him. She was ready to leave now. This was just awful.
She was glad he accepted her apology and finally looked up catching his hand go through his curls she fidgeted again. "Oh I have?" This was.. well umm she wasn't even sure of the right wording. She bit her lip, "I just.. well I was told over the summer when I had mentioned to your girlfriend that I was going to bake cookies for you and make sure you were alright from last term that you didn't need me to do that. That you were well taken care of and I just got the hint that she didn't like us being friends or me being around you so I've tried to make sure I wouldn't upset her."

Cassie tried at first to wave it away saying that she hadn’t been acted differently which he had just pointed out that she had had. Leo knew he hadn’t been imagining things. It didn’t add up. But it did when she revealed that someone had told her that he had a GIRLFRIEND and that he was well taken care of.
As it sunk in Leo spluttered out amazed eyes big as saucers. "I don't have a girl...friend. I'm single. I haven’t had a steady girlfriend for years. The last one I had was a girl I met at Hogwarts and hung out with a few years before we grew apart." They were still good friends and actually related since she had ended up marrying one of Leo’s cousins on his father’s side.
"Who told you I have a girlfriend? It has to be someone that is very misinformed because I can assure you that I don’t have a girlfriend. Was it Javy or Piers or Cossy?" He paused to catch his breath and gather his thoughts, a hand shooting up to nervously ruffle around his hair.
Looking straight into Cassie's eyes he said truthfully from his heart "I really like you a lot Cassie. And I hoped that maybe we could be something more than just friends......If you like me too?" Holding his breath in, he waited for her answer.

Being caught off guard by Leo's reaction, Cassie took a step back. She had it wrong the entire time? No that wasn't right. "No, Sophia made it very clear you were taken care of. So I just assumed.. that you two.. oh.." she had been mistaken this entire time. She thought back to that day and there was no denying it, "I'm sorry.. I guess I read her wrong. She just was very vocal about me staying away." This was awkward and she shifted slightly.

Things were finally starting to make sense. Cassie had spoken to Sophia who had said that 'he was taken care of' and that had lead to Cassie assume that Sophia and Leo was a couple. The words we vocalised could have catastrophic consequences. Luckily in this case though, Leo felt that they had cleared things up. Cassie knew that he wasn’t dating anyone and definitely not his best friend. Rolling his thumbs a bit he explained. "Sophia is just very protective of me. Always has been and she just wants me to be happy. I'm sorry if she made you uncomfortable she was probably just thinking about my welfare. But I'll talk to her." It seemed like the right thing to do in order to put a pin in all the misinterpretations going around.
Leo looked on as Cassie paused and chose her words carefully all the time he waited nervously and hoped that she wouldn’t say outright no. That would devastate him. He let out an exasperated breath when she said yes to a date with him. Nodding he said "Yes, Iäm asking you out on a real date. just you and me. Maybe we could have our date in Diagon Alley this summer? Listen to some music; get something to eat or something?" It didn't have to be complicated. They were just feeling out the waters to see if they wanted to continue dating each other.

He was apologizing and all Cassie could do was giggle. She was giggling over the entire situation. She had spent all term thinking he was with Sophia and playing cautious not to come between them or upset her college and the whole time they weren't. How silly, "Oh it's fine. She didn't make me uncomfortable really, just didn't want to do anything that could hurt your relationship, but I think it was obvious my feelings. So when she seemed to make it very obvious you didn't need me to send anything or check up on you, I just assumed.." More laughter came from her and she snapped a bit, "This is just embarrassing."
HE WAS ASKING HER ON A DATE!! OHMYGOSH, OHMYGOSH!!! She couldn't even hide the excitement over this! "I like music. I mean yes I would love to go. It's that music thingy that was in the paper that you are talking about, right?" She had remembered something about it in the prophet, but who cared what is was HE JUST ASKED HER OUT!! EEEEEEEEP!!!!!
Glancing at her watch she realized it was getting late, "Oh gosh, we should probably head out." She had corridor duties this evening. Biting her lip a moment thinking she reached up and gave Leo a hug. "Thank you for having me meet you and figure all of this out." Letting go she stepped back and turned, "Shall we?" Not that she'd want to leave with the stars and things, but she did have responsibilities to tend to.
