The Observatory Feel like looking at some stars? You've come to the right place. From here in the Hogwarts Observatory you can see a tiny fraction of the 400 billion or so stars found in the Milky Way Galaxy. This circular but spacious room has been locked and opened as many times as there have been Astronomy professors staffed at the school. The huge telescope that former Hogwarts Astronomy professor, Professor Anteres, had put in years ago is still here and fully operable. Students are very welcome to try and use it. If you need a hand Professor Flamsteed is always somewhere close by and can lend you assistance. If the giant telescope is too much there is always smaller telescopes stored away in the cupboards around the room which you can borrow and use as you please as well as other astronomy objects. |
For Rou/Andy :3 With about an hour before sunset, Airey made his way over to the Observatory with a few star charts tucked under his arm and promptly set them down on the floor by the large central telescope. Tapping his sundial watch, he muttered a few things to himself - numbers mostly - before sitting down on the ground beside the charts with his legs tucked one under the other. Reaching over for one of his charts, he unrolled it in front of him and grabbed a protractor and quill to scribble down a few notes and predictions. He would need to wait for it to get a bit darker out before he could get to the real work. After all, nothing said Autumnal Equinox like star charting and experimentation! |

See, Walton did not know that they had re-started the pranks from years ago.The least Airey could have done was notify him of this instead of just starting with one himself. The young Airey understood and knew well how these things worked but this was not how they, pros did it. What did the years do to him, hm? Andrew headed to the Astronomy tower, something he had not done since forever. He at first was about to go knock on the office but before that, he decided to poke around while he was here. Might not find a reason to climb up here again. He started with the observatory and to his surprise, he found the one he was looking for there, as well. Or maybe he wasn't that surprised. Where else to find the astronomer than on the observatory looking up at the sky and jotting things. Slowly, the Herbologist edged closer and stood for a moment with his shadow looming over the blond man. He didn't move or speak for a moment then cleared his throat and said,"Am I interrupting?" he asked and without waiting for an answer he plopped down, stretching his long legs out in front of him and leaning back on his hands. |
Muttering a few more series of numbers to himself, along with a constellation thrown in there every now and again, Airey placed his quill to the parchment again and, using the protractor, began to draw lines on the star chart. "GAAAAH," he growled when a voice came out of NO WHERE and made his body go all rigid. The tip of his quill went right through Polaris and the tear of the parchment echoed the sound of his heart tearing. "My map," he Looking up, fire in his eyes, and ready to give the unsuspecting student who had just caused him to tear his map detention for a month, his eyes didn't focus on the WHO until they were sitting down next to him on the floor. "DETEN-----oh, it's just you," he chuckled as he essentially shoved the map in his colleague's face. "You owe me a new map. Or at least the courtesy of fixing this one." |
SOMEONE was jumpy! Andrew smirked at the situation, though the smirk was immediately covered with a map. Not even a good one, a ripped map! "M'sure I wouldn't be able to do it justice like you do," He snorted slapping it next to him on the floor. Although, it was correct. He could sit here for days, yet the herbologist wouldn't find much to scribble on the map. So yeah, surely Airey knew that. And because they already established each other's presence, a hi would totally sound useless now. "Are you always here around this time?" Information that might be handy in future prank planning. See how subtle he was being. So smooooooooth. "So, good prank," He cut to the cheese immediately. He was a straightforward person when it came to important matters. Unlike the matters that needed him to be subtle like collecting important information. "The one with the Gryffindors. A bit different from what I remember you to be, but guess you've developed your sense of humor." His pranks used to be more practical. |
The noise that came out of Airey's mouth was unlike any other. Some sort of gasp mixed with a whimper mixed with a growl mixed with an impish shriek. It was a forced noise, because he really wasn't all THAT surprised that his map was on the floor of the Observatory right now, but the look of shock on his face was pretty convincing. "You know, I doubt you would appreciate it if I were to slap one of your plant things out of their planters," he grumbled as he essentially crawled over the guy to pick up his map and smooth it out against his thigh. "Unless this right now was an act of war, in which case....your greenhouse better watch out." Joking. Sort of. Although there was something he was dying to try with puff...puff...puffer pods? Something like that. "Always is such an absolute word," he replied, eyebrow raised as he tapped his nose with his index finger. "Coming here does tend to be on my nighttime routine list. Tonight is a bit of an exception though. Given the fact that it's the Autumnal Equinox and all." And yes. Oh so smooth there, Andy Pandy. Smooth like chunky peanut better. Just like the astronomer was. Possibly why they got along. Sort of got along. Wand out and ready to fix his wand, he coughed with surprise at what the Herbologist had to say. "Prank? I haven't pulled any prank on you. Not yet anyway." Although now he was very curious as to just what had went down and what criminal mastermind had utilized Gryffindors' recklessness to their advantage. |

Needless to say that 'Autumnal Equinox' held absolutely no meaning in Walton's brain. Yeah, sure, that. Though he did guess it had something to do with Autumn. Duh. Which meant that once it was Winter he wouldn't be here at this time? He needed real and definite leads! Oh, but wait! He might have heard those two words before. Challenging himself, the Herbologist squinted up trying to search his memory in an attempt to try and remember what those words meant. "Is it when day and night are equal?" He could be wrong. He probably was. He didn't care. But it would help to know what it really meant to be able to know the times in which the Astronomer spent time here. Wow, why was the blond man drawing out his wand?! Should Andrew draw out his, too?! The plants' man was obviously alarmed. That until he realized why Airey had his wand out. To fix the map. Psh, he totally knew that. Not. And he was denying? A part of Andrew sort of forgot whether his old classmate was a good actor or not. That would have been helpful to know. "You mean you didn't send the flesh-eater fan, the boy with the broken heart and the one who talked funny and climbed any tree he saw?" He was obviously a paranoid person and wasn't going to easily believe. |
*un ceremoniously and abruptly wraps up for reasons* o.o *lurvs you* Airey couldn't help but smirk just a little. Pandy Andy was finally right about something. Heh. And the Herbologist needed to remember who his girlfriend was, because the astronomer was sure that his little threat had the gears in his colleague's head spinning...but Medea could break through just about any spell like a pro. Assuming he could get her in on some greenhouse sabotage... ANYWAY. "Approximately equal," he corrected. Technicalities, but they were important. The astronomer's attention was still entirely on his map and the fact that there was a HOLE in it. A HOLE IN HIS MAP. Was the man aware that this was a hand drawn by the Astronomy professor himself? Because it WAS and he had slaved over it for hours and weeks and now there was a HOLE in it. "Wait...what?" he said, shaking his head as he refocused on what was being said. He assumed the flesh-eating fan was Miss Cambridge, but he had no clue about the other two. Not to mention broken hearted....things did not concern him. Climbing trees could have been any Gryffindor - they were a curious and adventurous bunch after all. And what was wrong with climbing trees anyway? "Nope. Definitely had nothing to do with that. If I was going to have students help me with the execution of a prank, it wouldn't be something as simple as wasting your time." Which was what they had done, yeah? The man's tone implied as much. "As much as I would love to stay and chit chat about this prank I did not do and your concerns with my Gryffindors, I have a map I need to repair in my office," he grumbled as he pushed himself up off the ground and got ready to leave. He needed his special equipment for this. No simple Reparo was going to repair it to his standards. |
For the Detective The observatory was one of Justine's favorite places. The telescopes, star charts, beautiful views of the starry night sky, and the ambient quiet of the place made it calming and offered the girl exactly the space she needed for moments when she needed to escape the busy confines of the Common Room. She sat her book bag down, and took a seat at the main telescope, the largest and most powerful one in the room, and began adjusting and switching the nobs to focus the lens. There, perfect. Justine grinned and peered through, searching over the January sky looking for nothing in particular, simply content to stargaze and avoid the treacherous thinking in her head. Because lately her mind had been dangerously turning more and more to a boy who shouldn't mean anything to her. A boy she might have been avoiding for the last week, one with warm eyes and a cheeky smile, who looked very good in pink.... "Ugh." No, no! That sort of thinking was only going to get her in trouble, damn it all! She'd been such a girl lately, she needed to do something, something to regain her coldness, to empty herself of all these feeling that boy had brought on... But what? What could she do.... |
Quote:
He knew he wasn't making things easy for her lately, but it wasn't like she was helping either. Nope, it took two to tango. But that didn't stop him from blaming himself. He liked Justine, a lot. She was charismatic, interesting, well rounded and kept him on his toes.. but he had stronger feelings for someone else and that's what made this difficult. So tip toeing over to the seat he sat in the last class, he bent down to start looking under the chairs, it had to be there somewhere, right? |
Quote:
Her first instinct was to ignore him, to avoid the situation as she did with anything unpleasant, but... She missed talking with him, missed talking about books and pop culture, and listening to him tell her about his work, and occasionally telling him something of herself... "If you're looking for a quill, I saw one earlier and picked it up.* Because why not? Free quill, she could always do with more. It would have been very easy to just let him go on his way, seemingly unnoticed, so, why did she talk to him? because Justine had felt like it and she didn't need to explain herself to anyone, lest of all you, so back off. |
Quote:
"I dropped it in class and didn't notice until 20 minutes ago when i started on Homework." So, seemed like she had his quill. At least it wasn't lost. "What are you doing up here?" He knew she mentioned coming up here to be alone and just feel more at peace, so that's probably what this was. But assumptions were bad in his opinion. |
Quote:
"Hmm," She leaned forward, taking her book bag in hand and rummaging through the contents before pulling out the quill. Justine held it out for him. "Here you go," had it been anyone else, Justine would have lorded the possession over them, but she didn't want to be spending any more time than necessary with the Gryffindor boy. "I wanted some quiet, I can't hear myself think in that stupid Common Room with all those first years," Justine replied, running a hand wearily through her chestnut colored hair. Why was Justine even telling him that? She didn't owe him an explanation, yet here she was offering up her words with ease. |
Quote:
"Thanks." He took the quill and then listened. His Common Room was always fine. A little noisy but he didn't mind it, He liked reading there, speaking to his favorite house ghost. All that jazz. "Well, i don't wanna bug you if you're having some peace and quiet for once.." He knew he wasn't exactly good for her peace and quiet.. he probably wasn't good for anyone's. But maybe he would tell her about his plans for next term. |
"It's the potion... It made me almost, super aware... Which, isn't the worst thing," Justine said, smirking ever so slightly. Being able to hear anyone sneaking up on her, and hearing more clearly were definite pluses to this whole cat thing. She nodded. And now was the time to turn away from the boy and go back to her stargazing... Except that she didn't do that. "Well, I'm sure you have homework to do... " She said, but it wasn't what she wanted to say, not even a little. She wanted to tell him to stay, to sit with her and hear about what he had done, who he'd seen, to fill her head with his voice and his words. He seemed like he didn't want to leave, because despite his words he still stiff before her. "Connor? Jun and I stopped." She didn't know what made her say that, or why it seemed important, but it slipped right out of her mouth. "We... We're just friends now," She said, her tail closing around the stool leg. |
Quote:
He shrugged, homework to do... right.. He was pretty good at keeping up with it. "Not really, i mean just something to write but i can do that later." He didn't like to let his homework pile up it was far too much work at that point. Connor was about to go because he could feel the tension here, then she said that and he wasn't sure how to take it. Yes, it was something he wanted to happen but because he was selfish. He wasn't over someone else so how was it okay for him to feel like this? It would be a lie to say he wasn't feeling relieved but also feeling very...selfish. A new feeling he didn't care for, well maybe not new but newly discovered. "Well, that's good.." He wasn't sure if he should smile or what? |
Quote:
The flirtatious words were begging to be said, Justine bit her lip, holding back, again, keeping her distance (emotionally and physically) from the clever, reckless Gryffindor. Seriously, what was it about him? What did he have that had so arrested her attention and her unwilling affection? Perhaps it was the way he had pushed her when they'd first met, forcing Justine to spill the truth of who she was, or maybe it was his cool acceptance... Or the way he chased her.. Or how it had felt when he had kissed her.. Mentally, Justine shook herself. That thinking had to go. What was that weird feeling in her belly? That uncomfortable heavy feeling? It was a little like the butterflies she would feel before a performance but- Anxious, she was anxious. Bloody hell, since when did Justine Janvier get anxious? She wasn't some stupid moony-eyed first year. She was better than that, above it... Justine wasn't aware she was slightly holding her breath until Connor spoke and she released it in a quiet breath. "Why?" Justine asked, half turning in her seat. "Why is it good?" And why was she even asking? Why was she even telling him? There was something warm blooming in her chest, it felt strange, unfamiliar, but it made her want to smile at Jones-y and close the distance between them. |
Quote:
Then she had to ask that question... how was any person supposed to answer that? "I don't know.. cause what else am i supposed to say?" He asked and just kinda shrugged cause he didn't know what she wanted from him. "Justine, i don't know how to feel. I know things are weird between us and i know you're avoiding me. It makes sense cause i'm all over the place lately." He just couldn't really say where he was lately. He only knew where he wanted to be. |
Quote:
Since when was she a damn optimist? The eighteen year-old leaned forward, her face blank as she listened, betraying none of what was in her head. "I don't know, I wasn't sure what I was expecting." She replied, her eyes watching his lips, looking for a twitch or anything to show if he was pleased or not. He had seemed like he was before she had asked the question. Grimace. He'd noticed? Not the weirdness, but the avoidance? A part of her actually felt a little pleased that the boy had paid attention to her absence. Because regardless of all the messiness, she wanted him to give a damn. "Aren't you pleased? Isn't it what you wanted?" They'd ended it because of him, did he know that? Were his detective skills so good as to figure that bit out? "I needed to think, that's a lot easier when you aren't around," it was almost a compliment, save for the dry, joking way she said it. |
Quote:
"Kinda, Yeah.. He didn't even like you like that." He'd been wanting to say that since he found out but hadn't and it just kinda slipped out now. "I'm gonna do something that's kind of a strange concept to you and just tell you how i'm feeling. Okay?" Connor took a deep breath. "I like you, i Do Justine.. You're different and witty and i have a lot of fun with you. But I also have really strong feelings for someone else and i get that it makes things weird but I refuse to feel sorry about how i feel. I can't just sacrifice what i want all the time for other people and assume that makes me good." So...there was that. It was what he meant and how he felt..so question was, would she get mad? |
OOoooooh the observatory one of Peeves favorite places. Making his way up he heard voices and his grin became bigger. Moving into view he began making kissing noisy until he came to a stop in front of the two. "Peeves is positive that dating isn't allowed in the observatory. You best get out before a professor comes and puts you in detention." He turned towards the door cackling. "STUDENTS KISSING IN THE OBSERVATORY, STUDENTS KISSING IN THE OBSERVATORY" |

"I know he didn't," It was the whole reason their relationship had been so easy, because neither of them had cared too much. The attraction had been there and the friendship, but neither had felt anything more. The boy didn't give her a chance to say yes or no, but pressed on; saying what she suspected had always been on his mind, a speech she was ill prepared for. I like you, I do, Justine. the words made the strange feeling in her chest grow, taking over. Sacrificing what he wanted? Did he mean her? She was about to ask when- Kissy noises? What the- Justine turned to see the translucent figure of- PEEEVES. PEEVES THE BLOODY POLTERGEIST. For heaven's sake. What was he doing there? Justine dryly glared at the pesty Hogwarts ghost. "Aren't there better things you could be doing?" She cooly asked, raising an immaculate eyebrow. A second later he was shouting bloody murder, calling out for attention and though Justine very much doubted they would be in any real trouble, she knew they wouldn't be able to stay. She quickly grabbed her things, making sure to get everything and walked out of the Observatory, unsure whether she wanted Connor to follow her or not. |

*ahem* Yes, he had heard the shouting all the way from the laboratory. Yes, he was fully aware that the shouting belonged to Peeves and therefore was not information that could be trusted. Yes, he WAS currently sprinting through the corridor and to the observatory because IF said shouting was telling the truth then there would be consequences. "NO SNOGGING IN THE ASTRONOMY TOWER!" he declared as he came zooming through the entrance like an asteroid pummeling itself towards Earth with his finger raised accusingly in the air. Oh, and wiggling back and forth. Aggressive finger wiggling in a accusatory manner. "THIS IS A SANCTUARY OF SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY AND DISCOVERY!" |

The only reason he stayed and didn't chase after the girl was because this was his head of house. Merlin was this night turning into a mess. He just came up here to get a quill back! |
