A spare room located in annex to the Muggle Studies Classroom has been refurbished and renovated to allow muggle technology devices to work. Note: the technology found within this room will only work in this room of the castle.
All the devices are labeled and fully operative and functional, though many of them are bulky and outdated due to the nature of most of them being donated, given lack of adequate funding for newer items. Devices found within the center include several large computer workstations, old flip cellphones (the brick-kind ;D), corded and cordless phones of various styles. The phones all are operative to make local Britain and Scotland outgoing calls. There's also stereos and CD walkmans to listen to music, as you work on homework or study, if you'd like.
All the technology found within this room is open for both students and staff to play with, provided that you have signed a waiver agreement with the Muggle Studies Professor. Anyone caught using the equipment without signing the waiver is subject to punishment, up to and including banishment from the center - permanently.
Angel looked at the next thing she had to do, oh she was really scared about this process because she wasn't very careful with holding things on the edges, she totally didn't do things like that but now here she was trying to be very careful.
Angel only spent so much time on hair because it as so amazing and she needed to look her best but now she was supposed to take care about this procedure even though she didn't want too.
Angel blow away any dust from the negatives and she made sure to hold just the edges. How long would this take she was already getting bored and she wanted to do her hair again.
Angel then realised it was time to insert the negative into the scanner, she carefully put in into the slot and made sure the shiny side was facing the glass of the scanner. Now what was the next thing she had to do? She decided to look at her notes.
Eden smiled but shrugged. "You're very right. Homework is bummer. Just wait until you're a fifth year--OWLs.." she said in a FOREBODING way. The amount of work was...TREMENDOUS. She wondered if it was this much work at Durmstrang...if she had stayed would she be less stressed? Probably. The pressure from her grandparents wouldn't be there if she had stayed--though coming to Hogwarts hadn't entirely been her choice.
"And I'm Eden--" she said, and she closed the lid of the scanner tightly. "UM--I think I got it--I'm half blood so--" she smiled and shrugged. "We have a scanner at home for Mam." The muggle in the family, YEP. Hehe. She looked for the scan button for awhile--and when she finally found it she JABBED it all triumphantly...WHOOOH!
Looking back up at the computer screen, she saw the thing pop up, like the directions in her notebook said, and she set the resolution to 300..and the digital file was already on JPEG. Oh good. YIPPY SKIPPY. Now she was...READY. MHMM.
See? This girl got it. Homework was no fun. If you hear her sister Abby talk about it, you would think homework was a good time. What a sad, misguided girl Abby was. Come to think of it maybe her sister could do her homework for her. If she loved it so much wouldn't do extra just make her day? AJ was always up for bringing a smile to Abby's face. That wouldn't help her now though. "You're a fifth year?" Well spotted, AJ. Eden practically spelled it out for you. "OWL's sound disgusting." Thank goodness she still had several years to go before she had to worry about that.
"Nice to meet you. I like your name." It was different, and not one that you heard all of the time. Oh, she was half and half. "Okay, well if you need me to kick the scanner or something..." she was here. Sometimes it just needed to know that you were the boss.
All the chit-chat made her forget where she was on her steps. AJ drug her finger down her notes until she found it. Dust needed to be removed. AJ took a deep breath in and blew out deep. Little specs of spit flew all over the negatives. Whoops. Apparently she was a little too eager when it came to removing the dust. She couldn't exactly wipe it off because of the whole smudge thing. Instead AJ made sure to hold it on its edges and fan it back and forth. All better, no harm done.
Now she needed to get the film into the scanner. Making sure the shiny part was facing the glass she inserted the negatives into the scanner.
Eden thought the younger girl was very..funny. Really. She was making Eden have to hold in laughter right now! She nodded, though, and looked for the menu screen with her mouse. "Um--Yes--" she turned to look at the girl. AJ. "They are. Very stressful. I've started going over a few things already because OWLs determine so much of your future and whatnot--" she snorted. It was horrible. She wanted to just run, eat, and sleep. And snuggle with Phoenix and Daisy and just have fun with her friends.
Instead, she and Clara spent a LOT of time studying -___-
"What year are you..Aj?" she asked as she FINALLY found the menu option and clicked scan as soon as she saw it. This was the easy part, yes. The scanner began to hum and do its thing, yes, and Eden just leaned back in her chair and smiled. "And thanks. My parents apparently did too--" she snorted and watched the pictures pop up on her screen. She would have to do this four more times, yeah? "Do you know if we have to print them? Or does she just want us to scan them onto the computers?" Eden assumed they had to print them...that would make much more sense.

Okay so now they were to finish making those photos they had been handling in class. Benny inwardly hoped that the rest of the procedure was a lot less complicated or at least risk o=f being messy as the previous steps had been. The fact that it was in the technology center and involving such things as scanners, computers and possibly other electronic things gave him some piece of mind. No liquids would likely be involved...right? That would be bad to technology if he remembered correctly.
Entering the room that made up the center, the fourth year looked around to pinpoint where everything was that he would need. Scanner...check. Computer attached to it...check. And taking a closer look remembering a muggle studies class last year involving the computers in question, he checked to see they were on. Yep, that part was all set. Green lights on both and with a brush of the mouse the screen of the computer turned back to its usual onscreen vision rather than its black sleep mode.
After he placed the negatives in the holder, he placed them delicately in the scanner and realized there was fingerprints on them. EEK! He clicked his tongue and wondered how he was gonna fix it. He was being careless this time. He looked around and noticed there was a cloth and some water. He took the negatives out of the scanner and placed them on the desk. Then he went over to the sink soaked his cloth with a little bit of water. He walked back to his desk and cleaned it off. He held them to the light and held them by the edges and they seemed better now. He placed them back in the negative holder and put the holder in the scanner and started the scanning process.
He made sure the scanner was on and the computer was already on. Hey you never know, he had to double check. He checked to see if the glossy side was facing the scanner and it was and he closed the scanner and pressed the button to scan the photos. He went back to his computer and realized the menu popped up and he needed to go to File, Image size and realized the DPI was at 150 and he changed it to 300. Then he made sure the image was a JEPG and he was cool with that. Then he pressed Scan. The machine roared to life and was scanning his photos. Then he saw the preview and thought it looked amazing.
He pressed the Print button and printed out his photos for the hard copy. He was glad this was working out soo well.

It was time to work on her Muggle Studies homework, so Lux skipped into the technology center. She had never developed photos this way before, so it was all rather exciting to her. She had her film as well as the instructions, so she was definitely prepared to do this.
Humming Under the Sea to herself, she made her way over to a computer making sure to turn on both it AND the scanner. Otherwise this definitely wouldn't work. The instructions mentioned a slot in the scanner lid, so she opened it up to have a look. There it was. Now she would need to cut her film because the scanner would only take five negatives at a time.
Scissors. She needed to get the scissors from her bag.
Toothless - Napoleon of Crime - Gryffinclaw - Owl Emissary - Pirate Auror - DoctorDonna
Benny opened the scanner and looked for the slot he was supposed to be working with. Noticing the illustration, he was reminded of what he needed to do. "Right...need to cut them," he mused aloud as he took both the negatives and the pair of scissors he had thought to grab for the project from his bag. No way he could use any sort of spellwork for a muggle studies project, even without the danger of cutting the images accidentally. So he had rustled up the scissors instead.
Taking his time, the fourth year carefully cut them apart in groups of 5 to fit in the scanner. Eventually he had his collection all done, the boy carefully laying them out around him and the scanner so as not to wreck them. taking hold of the first by the edges like class, Ben gently blew on it before inserting it into the open scanner, closing it to let it do its job.
Now came the hard part...understanding the computer.

Muggle Studies...
He didn't know why he was even bothering with it, but since having a bunch of negative strips was USELESS to him, printing them seemed like a suitable alternative. AND, he'd be getting house points for it - BONUS!
After classes were done for the day, Zeke returned to the technology centre with his bag slung over one shoulder. Upon entering the room, he found himself a space in which to work. Sitting at the computer, Zeke checked the cables to make sure the scanner was attached and then turned both machines on. He sat, for a while, waiting it to load up and warm up and whatnot, and in that time he pulled out his notebook and negatives.
The steps were straight forward enough, and he could already cross a couple of the directions off the list.

* Use a scanner attached to the computer in the technology center
* Make sure the computer and scanner are both turned on.
* On the lid of the scanner when you open it, you should see a slot to insert a sheet of up to five negatives; it is embellished to resemble a film strip. You may need cut your negative strip as you cannot develop more than 5 images at a time; just be careful to not cut the actual image.
* Blow any dust from the negative and be careful not to leave fingerprints or smudges (so as we held it from its edges in class, i would continue to do so in handling it)
* Insert the negative to scan into the slot with the shiny side facing the glass of the scanner.
* Close the lid and press the button to scan it into the computer.
* A menu screen should pop up onto the computer monitor; select the option to print negatives in the scanner monitor. Resolution should be set to 300 ppi and type of digital file, JPEG.
* Complete the scanning process from your computer, clicking 'scan' on the menu, which will create a digital image saved onto the computer that you can elect to print out as a hard copy.
* Repeat for a minimum of 5 pictures

A quick glance at his notes on the given process told him to press the button on the scanner so Benny obliged. A screen popped up on the computer as mentioned, however it still took the Gryffindor aback. Right...that's how it was going to work. He had to interact to make sure everything went the way it was supposed to so the images printed out right. Option to print...option to print...where was that opti-- oh there it was.
The fourth year moved the mouse and got it to highlight the thing he wanted. However it was as it was hovering as he remembered the part about resolution and file type, whatever they both were. They both checked out, matching the stuff on the instructions so he finally returned to the print negatives option and clicked on it.
Did it work?
Oh wait...another option. Ben clicked scan this time before waiting for some sort of reaction. Only when it started to make sounds did he think it was starting. At least he hoped it was positive sounds he was hearing.

After signing in on the computer, Zeke opened the lid of the scanner to have a look and WHERE he was placing his negatives. He'd read the directions, but seeing was believing, and sure enough - once the lid was lifted, he could see the spot marked out already for him. Weeeeee.
Taking a pair of scissors, Zeke carefully cut off one of the images from his strip - as the scanner could only fit five, not six. He had been very careful when holding his negatives, always on the edges between his fingers, not making any contact with the actual image. But once it was cut, he held it up to inspect closer, and in doing so gave it a quick blow to rid it of any pesky dust that had settled. Booo to dust.
Placing the negative strip into the scanner - shiny side down, Zeke made sure it was positioned correctly and then he closed the lid. Then all there was left to be done - really - was to get it scanning. Zeke clicked the button with his index finger, and then smiled at the sounds it made in response. Quickly, he crossed off his notes the actions he had done.

Scissors in hand, Lux slowly and carefully worked to cut the negatives into strips of five images each.
Knowing it was best to be holding the edges as she worked as opposed to the centre, she made sure to do so. She also made sure not to cut into the actual images. Hopefully she was doing a good job and not butchering anything because she wasn't always the smoothest with a pair of scissors.
Once she had cut all the negatives into strips of five, she carefully inspected each in the light to make sure none had been cut into. Everything looked great, so she blew off any dust from the negatives while still holding them by the edges.

It only took a moment for the pop-up menu to appear, and when it did Zeke selected to print the negatives in the scanner monitor. Once that box was ticked, Zeke double checked the settings, changing the ppi setting to 300 and making sure the file type was set to JPEG, which it was. It was good to go!
Still, he double, triple and quadruple checked the settings before clicking SCAN in the menu. Once the negatives were scanned in, which took another moment with accompanied hums from the scanning machine as it did its thing. And then, there was nothing to it. He selected one of the images - a shot of the greenhouses, and then he hit PRINT!
...
Moments later, out from the printer came his DEVELOPED photo. Woooop!!!!

Adrienne didn't mind Muggle Studies- it was actually quite interesting seeing how they all managed to get on without magic, their devices were so quaint- but she was definitely not a fan of the technology centre. All of the ecklecktrity- electricity, she corrected herself, Professor Hadley would not be proud of that thought (it was hard to train herself out of calling it what her parents always had when she was young)- put her on edge.
Still, homework was homework, and she was sure if she didn't have her five prints for class next time her grade would suffer heavily. So she made her way into the centre anyway, sighing and trying not to breathe in too deeply as if she were somehow able to smell the technology, and jammed the power button on a desktop computer. It took her a while to figure out what the scanner was, but eventually she got that the square-looking thing with the flippy top was labelled Scanner and voila, Adrienne could turn it on and get started.
She turned to the sheet of parchment she'd scrawled the instructions on and brought with her. Let's see... On the lid of the scanner when you open it, you should see a slot to insert a sheet of up to five negatives; it is embellished to resemble a film strip. Yep, there it was. Hey, at least this homework was easy so far.
Angel closed the lid and then she pressed the button on the scanner to scan it into the computer, she was a bit scared she was doing it wrong. "How are you Benny?" Angel suddenly saw that her boyfriend was in the room. "Are you okay or do you need a hand?" Angel was glad that Benny seemed to be doing great to say he wasn't from a muggle family or maybe he was, she didn't really know.
Angel smiled when the scanning finished and a menu screen pop up onto the computer monitor, she selected the option to print the negatives in scanner she remember to set the size up and she remember to make sure the file was a JPEG, she then had to see what she had to do next, so she went and got her notes.

Heading over to the scanner, Lux placed the negative strip she was holding into the slot shiny side down. Before closing the lid, she made sure that the strip was lined up perfectly because she didn't want to do a bad job with this assignment.
Now all the needed to do was scan the photos.
Woooo!!!
After looking at her instructions again, she pushed the button that would scan them to the computer. She was doing everything correctly so far and that made her happy. Muggle Studies was such an awesome subject and It was one of her favourites.
This was a fuuuuuuuun assignment; she got to play with muggle technology more. BEAM.

Zeke inspected the first of his photos that he produced. It was... good quality. Nice and shiny on the printed side, the colours were good, and yeah, it was all good.
The first year was thoroughly satisfied with his work, not that the process was over difficult at this point - more time consuming than anything else. Putting his first developed photo to the side, Zeke clicked on the second image he had scanned into the computer and again continued by printing off another.
...
It was, kinda soothing, hearing the hum of the computer and the printer as they worked away.
Taking the next two photos that came out of the printer, Zeke peered at them closely, and placed them to the side with his first.
How many was that? Three? And he needed...?? FIVE!.. so that was all of the images he'd put in the scanner. This was easy as beans!

Angel looked at the next thing she had to do, she had to click scan on the menu, she looked around for it and then she suddenly found it, she clicked scan and then she saw a digital image that was saved on her computer, now she had to repeat the process five times this was going to be awesome.
Angel did the same thing other and other again until she had got all 5 of the photo's scanned onto the computer, now she had to decided what to do next, she decided to print out one of the photos because well she had no idea if that was what she needed to do but she thought she would be better safe than sorry.
Okay, there was the film sheet thing and there was the bit Adrienne was supposed to put it in. Was there anything else to do first or-? She turned to glance at the sheet of parchment next to her and, in doing so, managed to drop the sheet of negatives. "Mince!" she exclaimed quietly, picking it up and frowning at the smudges and dust she'd inadvertently managed to get all over it.
Oh well, there went the idea of doing this thing well. She may as well rush it now, since it didn't really matter. Adrienne stuffed the negatives into the scanny slot bit, flipped the lid down absently, and jammed the button with her forefinger. Was it working yet? Was it supposed to make that strained sort of noise?

Ben watched, waited and listened as the scanner and computer seemed to be working. Lights and sounds were being made and it was all curious to the half blood with not too much experience in the muggle world. Soon enough the menu on the computer screen was exchanged for the image that had been scanned. Cool. Success in the scanning process and he had to admit he must have done something right in the earlier developing process since the image didn't look all to bad on the screen. He could identify what the picture was on around the school pretty clearly.
When another menu popped up, Benny looked at it closer, reading through what was shown on the screen. Print the scan? To have a physical, complete photo as proof of what he had done? Yeah, the fourth year was definitely all for it. He clicked on it and waited as the next process was gone through by the machines, the finished print eventually coming out to be collected.

Keeping her eyes on the computer screen, Lux waited for the pop up menu to appear. Fortunately it didn't take too long.
There we a few requirements that had to be adjusted, so after clicking on the option to print negatives she set the resolution to 300 ppi and the digital file to JPEG.
Now what did she need to do?
After looking at the instructions again, she pressed the 'scan' button, and soon she had all five of her photos scanned into the computer. Looking through each in turn she was pleased with the results and had them printed as hard copies.
Toothless - Napoleon of Crime - Gryffinclaw - Owl Emissary - Pirate Auror - DoctorDonna
With there being four more negatives on the sheet in the scanner there was certainly more work to be done. Benny managed to get himself back to the original scan screen and menu that had been what he had worked with to start the picture-making process off in the first place. He clicked on the button that he found on it, setting it to scan the next one onto the computer. It soon appeared on the screen as well but this time it wasn't too clear so he opted not to print it out.
The fourth year repeated the scanning process on the remaining three in the current sheet, printing out only two more of the set bringing him up to a total of three overall photos so far for his homework project. He just hadn't been too satisfied with the other two of the set so Ben was going to try to see what he can get out of the other two sheets of negatives cut from the overall set he had prepared back during class.
Maybe there were nicer photos that he could present to Professor Hadley and perhaps get to keep in the long run.
Armed with the negatives he'd developed in class, Toby made his way into the technology centre ready to do a homework or something. He had all the instructions written down and everything; Tobias just hoped he'd be able to complete the task more or less successfully.
First up, he found himself a computer, nice and simple to start with. He switched it on, as well as the scanner that sat beside it, logged in and got all set up. and consulted the notes he held in his hand. Mkay. Here goes.
Tobias lifted the lid-thingy for the scanner and looked around for this slot that was meant to be here, aaaaand... yep. There it was. The Hufflepuff went to thread his strip of negatives in, before noticing he still needed to cut it down. Right. Well... it probably wasn't wise to use magic here, just in case Hadley wanted it all done full muggle. So Toby looked around the room, chewing his lip thoughtfully.
Aha! It seemed like someone had been here doing their homework earlier and left behind a pair of scissors. Toby got back up and headed over to where they were, cut down his strip of negatives very carefully so he had five full images still there, and returned to his own workspace. Once sat down again, he blew away any dust that may have gathered on the negatives and fed them into the slot in the scanner, shiny side facing the... Toby checked his notes to be sure... facing the glass, yeah.
Closing the lid of the scanner, Toby pressed the button to make it do the thing.

Jasmine arrived at the Technology Center, ready to finish her homework assignment. She needed to make prints from the negatives that she had developed in Muggle Studies class. Truthfully, she was rather anxious to see how her photos turned out. Having lived with a professional photographer all her life, you would have thought that this would be easy for Jasmine......it wasn't.
Walking over to the computer, Jasmine set her bag down and opened it. She carefully removed her negatives and laid them out before her. Reaching back into the bag, Jasmine retrieved a pair of scissors. Since the scanner could only accept five negatives at a time, she took a moment to carefully cut her negatives into groups of five or less. She made sure to handle them properly, touching the edges only. Once that was done, she was ready to roll. Looking over at the scanner and computer, Jasmine made sure that they were turned on. They were both on so she was all set.

It certainly seemed to be doing a thing. Toby saw movement out of the corner of his eye and turned to look at the sceen. He found himself face to face with a menu with a lot of technical stuff that he SORT of recognised, but mostly... didn't understand at all.
He consulted his notes again, looking from them to the screen and back and forth a whole lot, before squinting at the screen to find the option for printing the negatives. He found it, clicked it, and then changed the resolution to 200... no, wait... that was wrong. 300. He changed it to 300, and made sure 'JPEG' was selected.
Tobias then clicked the button that said 'Scan', as instructed, and saw that the digital copy was there in the computer, ready to be printed.

Never in her life had Sophie Brown hated Muggles more than she did when it came to their photography. Wizarding photography just seemed so EASY, she'd seen Mo do his stuff a million times. But the last class went way over her head and stressed her out, and now knowing she had quite the task ahead of her for her homework assignment... sort of made her want to toss her cookies a little. Not that she'd ever admit that, no, but she was also certain there was a sort of nauseated, sickly, pale color to her complexion that gave away how uneasy she was feeling as she entered the technology center.
She was fully prepared with her textbook, though, and her class notes with all the instructions she had reviewed many times were tucked neatly inside it under her arm. Upon choosing a work station, she sat down and unpacked her things, various sheets scattered all over the table top as she made sure EVERY little thing she might need to reference was there in front of her, ready to go and help her when she inevitably would need it.
But now more than ever she was wishing Mo was there to guide her along. She wasn't sure how much he actually knew about Muggle photography and their technology, but she felt sure that he definitely knew a lot more about them than she did.
She knew how to turn the computer on, she had absolutely done that before, and she did it without hesitation - it was a little bit tricker to find the power button for the scanner as she was unfamiliar with it, but soon enough there were blinking lights on that, too, that told her there was power. SO FAR SO GOOD. She sat there waiting, watching the computer boot up until it came to a familiar screen that she knew meant it was on properly and all loaded up. That was good. No problems there. Would've been pretty embarrassing if she couldn't even turn the bloody things on, wouldn't it?
Now that she could rest easy that the technology was set up, Soph was careful with the negatives from class and examined them briefly before reviewing the instructions and recalling that only five of the negatives could be scanned at once. That was okay - she had come PREPARED and pulled her small pair of scissors from her bag. Making easy work of it, she divided the negatives into groups of five, careful to hold them just by the edges so she didn't get any finger smudges on the prints themselves and cut only between the images, not into them. Snip, snip, snip.
There were a few specks of dust on some of the negatives, she spied them as she was dividing them into their groups, so she carefully blew them off. ALL PREPPED AND READY TO GO.
A preview of the image of one of the negatives came up on screen, the one Toby wanted to print, and Toby eyed it for a second. Huh. Little bit blurry but otherwise okay. He supposed that was on him, maybe he'd accidentally touched the negatives and left a fingerprint. But no matter, learning curve and all that. The Hufflepuff looked up and around the room to see if the printer was free, before clicking the little button that said 'Print'. A bunch of options came up, but Toby didn't want to mess with anything, and just hit 'Print' again before heading to the printer.
There was a little waiting around while his photo was printed, which Toby used to look properly around the room at everything, and wondering why he didn't stop by here more often. Then the whirring from the printer stopped and Toby looked back and retrieved the picture, which had been printed onto proper glossy photo paper, probably pre-loaded by Hadley for this very assignment.
Yup. Little bit blurry, definitely from a smudge or fingerprint, but otherwise a pretty neat photograph of the Hogwarts castle. Tobias hoped that the others were okay, but knew that part of the homework was to acknowledge how the photos came out, so figured it wasn't some massive catastrophe if they were all like this. He headed back to his seat and set the photo carefully to one side. One down, four to go.
