If you wish to meet with Professor Hadley, Hufflepuff Head of House, Arithmancer, and Muggle Studies Enthusiast, please schedule an appointment via owl(VM or IM is also acceptable ;D).
Thank you for your cooperation.
Professor Hadley is a busy woman, but she is always welcoming to you once you've secured an appointment with her. When you enter her office, you will notice it's arranged similarly to her former office on the second floor (assuming you've visited there). The walls have been painted a light blue-gray color and there are a handful of paintings hung around the room, giving off a rather comfortable aura. One of the paintings is a rendition repainted by Josephina, herself, of a canal near her hometown in Perugia, Italy. There is a framed miniature Italian flag, as well as a third painting of the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa.
As with typical office decorum, there is a large, polished wooden desk. There are a few neat stacks of papers and worksheets on the desk. There are also a few framed photographs sitting on her desk; her sisters, her parents, her colleagues, and her niece and nephew as well. There's also another five-by-seven framed photograph of a handsome young gentlemen; like the young girl, he'll have the tendency to disappear and re-appear and may blow kisses once in awhile too. Behind the large wooden desk sits a black executive style chair. Directly on the other side of the desk - where visitors may sit - are two smaller black chairs, but still just as comfortable.
There's a bookcase on the left side, which contains various titles that Josephina collected over the years. Some these include, but are not limited to, The Complete Book of Numerology, New Theory of Numerology, Numerology and Gramatica, A Look Into The Future, and Olde and Forgotten Bewitchments and Charmes. There are also muggle classic books by Charles Dickens and Jane Austen, for which are a few of Fina's guilty pleasures. There's also a new book recently added to the shelf from recent graduate and Head Boy, Alec Summers, A Slice of Pi, All the Math You Forgot To Remember From School/
Be careful as you enter the door, as her [12 or 13 year] grown mastiff, Baisley, is very protective of his owner, despite mostly lying on his pet bed lazily in the corner (and not as jumpy as he used to be when he was a pup. Her [6 year] kitten gifted from recent graduate, Lorelai Bristol, in which she conveniently named Bristol, is typically just lounging on one of the bookshelves, playing quietly with a ball of yarn, or even pawing at a new addition to the room (well new until Christmas when he'll go home and be with his father baby needs his mom for first few months!). Just entering without permission is rude and punishable with either point deduction and/or detention for being disrespectful.
OOC: You MUST wait until your character has been invited in before you post. In order to be invited in, you need to request an appointment with Professor Hadley via owl (PM/VM/IM).
Appointments:
Ian (Edward Penguin) - plus invite of Adi (FearlessLeader) into the meeting - Someplace about Oct/Nov

So, this whole making appointments thing to talk to people, was all too familiar - but he did the right thing, and made the appointment. He had QUESTIONS that needed answers.
After getting lost no less than three times, Zeke finally found himself on what he assumed was the first floor corridor, and on further inspection, he was correct. He quickly checked the time on his watch, in case getting lost had made him uber late, but it hadn't, he was on time... thank goodness. Pausing in front of the office door, and he knew it was her office because it said so, Zeke adjusted his robes and knocked.

For the first time in what seemed like a long time, the first appointment of the term was NOT a Hufflepuff. It seemed rather strange, actually, when Fina considered it. But then again with the few who that old rag sorted into Helga's house, maybe not so. Maybe they DID need a new sorting mechanism; clearly the hat was outdated. Setting a sleeping Septimus down his crib for a nap, she stroked his fingers and just hoped by the time he was ready to show magic he would prove loyal or hardworking enough. But if not ... if he got his father's wits and cleverness, that would be okay too, she guessed.
Turning from her infant at the sound of a knock, she glanced quickly at her wristwatch. Oh. Time flew. Her appointment was here already! Whatever did he need, she had no idea, but with a casually flick of her wand the door opened.
"You must be Ezekiel Rogers?" She beamed at the young boy. "Come in. Have a seat. Peppermint Humbug?" She offered casually, holding out the bowl towards him.

BAM!!!! .... the door opened, BY ITSELF!... he was used to this, but considering he was at a school of MAGIC he couldn't help but appreciate the magical gesture even more. Awesome.
However, instead of his eyes meeting the voice which greeted him, they fell onto... a small human. Was that a baby? ... Was this one of THOSE things?!!?!?!?! ......... OOOMMMGGGGGHEHADTOTELLEMILYIMMEDIATELY!..... LAW BREAKERS!
..
Ahem. Regaining his inner-composure and the ability to speak and respond like a normal person, Zeke nodded. "Yes Misss... but I prefer Zeke if that's okay." Cause Ezekiel was lame and ancient sounding - of which hew as not. At any rate, he did as he was told, and he entered quietly, claiming the seat opposite her. "No thank you," he replied, declining the humbug not because he didn't like them, but out of his necessity to live and not be abducted by a potential law breaker.
"Uhh... I have questions," he stated simply, waiting for a reaction before continuing. Was he ALLOWED to ask questions? Because he had A LOT, and people didn't seem to like him asking them, generally. He knew a death stare when he saw one.

"Professor Hadley ... Or Hadley-Nairne." Whichever. Technically she was Nairne now legally, but she'd been Hadley for most of her teaching career and habits were hard to break. "Zeke it is then." Nicknames. Alright Mr First-Gryffindor-Ever-To-Refuse-Candy. Shrugging it off, she pulled the bowl of humbugs back and placed it on her desk, folding her hands together.
Right then. Questions. About the school? Muggle Studies? Whatever it was, she did not know, given his vague introduction. "Of course. Ask whatever you'd like." She was patient and didn't mind questions. They gave insight and knowledge.

He knew there was another class going on right now, so he did his best to avoid everyone. He kept to the corners and shadows, hoping to talk to her alone. The middle of the day wasn't the easiest time to be shifty, but he did his best anyway. He'd spent the first night trying to come up with a different place to sleep.
When he got to the Head of House's office, he knocked on the door, waiting for a response.

Huh? So he couldn't just call her Missss?.... boooooo... that's what he called all his other teachers before. But alas, he nodded his understanding. Hadley, Professor Hadley sounded easier to remember. It was shorter. "Nice to meet you," Zeke offered politely.
She seemed nice enough, and willing enough, but it was always the nice ones you had to watch out for - he was sure he'd heard that somewhere before, PERHAPS he even read it. "Well see.... I was wondering, how do you sleep at night?" Always a good place to start, and he didn't mean 'in a bed'. "What sorts of experiments do you do? Do WE do? How many subjects are involved? Do they have their memories altered at the end? Are they all alive or are some of them dead? How does it work? Or do they get stuck in the Janus Thickey ward after it all?"
Did she get all that? Did he need to state them all again? Write them down for her? Zeke sat still, his palms flat against his thighs. This Muggle Studies business was DOING HIS HEAD IN. "Cause, so you know... I don't really agree with it, but I want good grades in everything."

Well at least he still had manners even if he DIDN'T want her candy. But then before she even really had a chance to take in his full appearance, he started in with the questions. So yes he HAD said he had questions, as in more than one, but the last thing Hadley expected was a rapid-fire succession of them.
But by the time he got to the second question, she had picked up her quill and jotted keywords of his topics down: sleep, experiments, subjects involved, memories, good grades, ... was that it?
Patient Badger though she was, she smiled sweetly at the first year as she waited for his mouth to stop moving before she began. "My sleep, like everyone with regular sleeping patterns, is characterized by altered consciousness, a relatively inhibited sensory activity, and the inhibition of all voluntary muscles. So it is complete muscle relaxation. You are generally not aware of your surroundings." He did want the science basis for sleep, didn't he? Judging from his questions. "As for experiments, this isn't Muggle Science or Psychology, Mr Rogers ... Zeke. This is Muggle Studies. We don't have test subjects like that. We don't modify memories. We just learn about the home and social habits of muggles. We don't rip apart a muggle's brain, but rather just learn how they do things. How what they do, is not so different from us."
"So if you want good grades in this class, well, just be present and engaged." There wasn't really much more than she asked then just being present. "Did I miss anything?"

Finally a moment to breath. And Septimus was sleeping too, so it meant she could actually focus on getting her first lesson prepared before the toddler awoke. His starting to walk - toddle more like it - was nerve-wrecking because it meant she had to watch him more closely.
Writing fiercely, she glanced back at the sleeping baby and suddenly heard a knock. Strange. She wasn't expecting anyone and her students were supposed to all be in one of their other lessons at this hour. Perhaps it was a colleague or ..... no, she had no idea really who could be knocking.
Chewing on her lower lip, she flicked the door open and was astonished to find one of her fourth year hufflepuffs standing outside ... "Ah, Mr Tinker! Come in! Everything alright?" Probably not, if he was coming to see her when he was SUPPOSED to be in class.

Ian was nervously shifting from foot to foot as he waited for a response. He wasn't quite sure that his head of house was even here. As he was about to turn around and try again, the door came open. Then the question was asked and he really didn't know what to say. He could only stand there dumb-founded for a moment to process her question.
Finally, Ian hung his head and shook it from side to side as his shoulders drooped. He very nearly turned and ran again. He'd lost any confidence he had gained over the last three years and especially over the summer and he was back to a timid Hufflepuff, unsure of how to navigate this new world he found himself in.

Slumped in his chair, his palms resting on his thighs, Zeke observed the Muggle Studies lady across the table. Was she going to confess? It be so much easier if she did. Needless to say, he hadn't expected her to be so in depth with her sleeping habits, in fact, he hadn't really expected her to respond at all. It WAS rhetorical. Mmhhhmm. So when she DID reply, Zeke stared some more and blinked. "Uhhhh... okay." This was an interesting way to start a confession, but at least in doing so she promised details.
Of course, what came next completely derailed his line of thinking. So... they DIDN'T do tests and experiments on muggles? There was no memory wiping or anything like that? He was relieved, though also somewhat disappointed. It made muggle studies sound all sorts of boring now. Did she miss anything? "Nope, I think you covered it," he approved with a nod, "though... does that mean I shouldn't do muggle studies?" he asked before clarifying. "It's just, I was a muggle, so does that make me already qualified? Would it be too easy if I took the class? Am I exempt from it? Do I automatically get an Outstanding for it?... Like a credit?" Again, in case he hadn't made things explicitly clear moments before, he wanted good grades.

Perhaps she HAD overdone it slightly with the detail of sleeping habits, but one who asked so many questions must want answers, yes? And she was most certainly prepared to give them. Perhaps not always so detailed ... but perhaps he wouldn't ask so many questions either. Was she boring him? Hmm, in all seriousness though, Josephina found she didn't really care so much though. It wasn't like it was a lecture where she had to keep him engaged; no, he chose to come see her because he wanted answers. And if he didn't like the answers, then tough.
"I think, even as a wizard," because he was a wizard or he wouldn't be here, yes? "I think as a wizard growing up in a muggle world, it'd be fascinating for you to see and experience muggle studies from a wizarding perspective." Fina nodded thoughtfully, placing her hands together casually. "So there's no automatic Outstandings given, but having grown up in the muggle world, you should find much of the topics to be review, albeit not all of it will be easy." There was nothing easy about cooking or using a computer or even playing sports or dueling. Some people may have been more talented than others, but those who weren't would learn. As she was sure Zeke would come to find on his own.

The shifting from side to side. The nervous headshake. It was Hadley needed to stand up and stride over to meet the fourth year at the office entrance. She didn't really know the boy like some of her others, but she knew this: he was a Hufflepuff and that was all that mattered. She extended her arm and touched his shoulder gently to navigate him towards the chairs.
"Please. Talk to me." Because if he couldn't talk to her, who could he?

Ian felt a sense of relief and a sense of dread at the same time. He wasn't sure how to say what he needed to say and he wasn't sure what he should say. He really wasn't sure if he should tell her how he's been staying around without actually sleeping in his room. Or even going around people. The last day or two, he's done his best to avoid people. He even considered staying in the forbidden forest, but he wasn't quite that brave yet. Of course there was Hogsmeade as well...and he had explored a lot of the castle he hadn't had the chance to explore lately.
He allowed her to lead him to a chair and he collapsed. Ian was so tired, he thought he might fall asleep in the chair. As it was, he just placed his hands together and between his knees as he stared at his feet. He was a little hungry and a little dirty as he didn't know where to bathe without being seen.

Huh... uhhh... righto. He hadn't considered there would be much more to learn, considering he had been a proper muggle for as long as he could remember, up until about two years ago, but that didn't change what he knew. Either way, Zeke nodded. "Alrighty then...." and for once he didn't have anything more to say. Nope. What he wanted to do instead was to track down Icarus in the owlery and write home. "Spose I'll see you in class then, Miss... I mean, Professor. Thanks for meeting with me." Seeeeeeee, he was still in muggle school mode too! Only Universities had professors there, seldom were there anything other than Miss' Ms' and Mr's.

Well that was that then? Mr Zeke Rogers was all done with his questions? For someone who spitfired questions within the first thirty seconds, Josephina had to admit she was surprised that he was leaving and done so quickly. But nonetheless she gave him a polite smile and nod. "Not a problem, Zeke and I most certainly look forward to it." Especially if he brought that eagerness and energy to the classroom as he had outside of it.
She walked up and held the office door open to see the first year out before settling back into her chair.

Josephina had to admit she was surprised slightly by Ian's lack of communication right upfront with her. In her many years as an educator, she prided herself in being open to listening and generally it was well-received, but this silence ... this silence, well, Josephina only wished she had mastered legilmency to ease the boy's worries. Because that what it was, right? Worries?
Instead of settling in behind the safety of her desk, the brunette did something else. She took the seat beside the fourth year and just sat there in silence for a moment, trying to relax him. "Ian." She finally broke the silence, softly. "I don't know what's bothering you, but if you open up, I can try to help. Keeping it bottled up will only make it worse." She finally said, glancing over at her sleeping infant. She knew.

Ian looked at the professor, not quite sure how to start. He took a deep breath, looking down at his fingers and he would have chewed them, but they were not the cleanest they'd ever been.
Letting out the air in his lungs, he started. Ummm...well, I haven't stayed much in the common room since the opening feast. I think you recall what happened there. He wasn't sure how to continue. His mind was all confused and he wasn't sure how he needed to address things. He was sitting there, trying to figure out how to stay in Hogwarts with his own room mate and prefect angry at him. He didn't want to leave. Yes, he'd made huge mistakes, but that didn't mean he needed to leave Hogwarts. He had hurt a lot of people, but in the context of a school this size, it was a relatively small number.
He decided to try something. Well. Is there any way I can sleep in a different place? Adi hates me, and well, I've avoided going to my room when people are there. But there are people there all the time. It's not comfortable at all.
He shuffled his feet back and forth and continued...a little. I think he would be quite pleased to only have to see my face in classes, if even that. He was finding it very difficult to look at the professor. This was all so confusing. He'd never had someone hate him. Now he had like 4 or 5 people in this place that he assumed did.

Fina waited, unsure how much of a waste of time this meeting was going to be. If Ian didn't open up soon, then it would leave her no choice but to speak with the Headmistress. But then, once he exhaled, he began. With the opening feast. Yes, she had skittered down the Gryffindor Table and didn't quite get there in time but she got the gist. Mostly - in her mind - it seemed like teenage angst and jealousy was involved.
But at his next confession ... suggestion ... Fina frowned. "You're a Hufflepuff, Mr Tinker. And so is Prefect Rehman. And I know it seems uncomfortable, but if Hufflepuffs can't even stand beside each other, then who can? If we can't find a way to make it comfortable between our own housemates, the friendliest kids at Hogwarts, then where does that leave us as a House?" Helga would not be approving of this kind of behavior, that was for sure.
"So what I think ... what I want, is Adi here too. He is a Prefect and thus, despite a certain animosity he might feel towards you, he is expected to behave." She reached out for his hand. "Please. I can summon for him now, if you'd like?" Because they NEEDED to be supportive of each other; without the support of your housemates, you had no one.

Pinocchio sat there confused. what was a Hufflepuff? and who was this woman speaking to him. She looked like a teacher. Gepetto and Jiminy would probably tell him to be respectful and listen to the teacher. All Pinocchio wanted was to go outside and play like the other real boys did. He looked out of the window and saw the sun shining. In his high pitched voice,he asked When can I go out and play? That's what real boys do, right?
Then she mentioned something about Adi perfect coming in. Sp you want a perfect boy to come in? Maybe he can teach me how to be a good boy. Papa Gepetto says I have to learn how to be a good boy. And that serious old cricket keeps tellin me I have to listen to my con....con....con...,,the voice inside my heart to know how to do right. Pinocchio nodded. yes. Please bring the perfect boy. I'd like to meet him.
While this conversation was going on, Ian is on the inside screaming as loud as he can Nooooooo! Don't bring Adi. Adi hates me and he doesn't want to see me! unfortunately! the only voice the professor hears is the outside voice of Pinocchio! not the inside voice of Ian.

Shortly after arriving back at school after winter break, Hayden made her way to Professor Hadley's office. She'd owled over break to make an appointment, and she was all set when she got back. She was carrying a small box wrapped in yellow paper with a black bow. She could have just owled the box, but that wouldn't have been as fun. She would have rather come to visit Hadley anyway, because she hadn't done that yet this year. Hayden approached Hadley's office and knocked. All there was to do now was wait.

Josephina wasn't really leaving him any choice on her bringing Adi in .... She was inviting the fourth year whether or not he agreed. Barely registering Ian's confused state at the moment when he mentioned Papa Gepetto and a cricket, she just attributed it to lack of sleep as the house head scribbled down a note and quickly cast a patronus message off in search of its recipient.
"You are a good boy, Ian. You're a Hufflepuff." Really. That already made him innately good, if nothing else. "Just ... relax. Everything will all be okay." She'll get him back sleeping in his bed.

She would have rather come to visit Hadley anyway, because she hadn't done that yet this year. Hayden approached Hadley's office and knocked. All there was to do now was wait.
How was Winter break over already? Her office felt rather empty and quiet without the little one sleeping or stirring in the corner but she knew it was difficult enough for three months and though it was hard being apart, she did have a job to do. She sighed, picking up the picture frame and holding it - smiling at her baby crawling around. She set it back down on her desk as she heard a knock. Already?
"Come in," Fina called out to the visitor. Hayden was the only expected one, but that didn't mean it couldn't be someone else?

After receiving the Patronus message from Professor Hadley, Adi hastily made his way to his Head of House's office. He wasn't even sure if AJ had followed him from the Bridge. If she did maybe she would hang around until he was done. He still wanted to spend some more time with her.
The boy would be lying if he said he wasn't a tad nervous as he was wondering if he had done something to offend the Professor. But hey. He could be called for something other than being in trouble. Adi raised a hand and knocked on the door.

Josephina had begun to count in her head as she waited for how long it would take her prefect to arrive. Not long, she suspected, but it also depended on where in the castle he was located.
And the it was, the knock, which she could almost guess would be Adi. A nervous look towards Ian, she just hoped that he wouldn't run cowardly away when he saw his housemate. Or there wasn't going to be some mass outbreak, but she had her wand, even though use of magic on a student as punishment was pretty much forbidden.
Nervously, she finally spoke up. "Come in, please." she called out, remaining in the seat next to Ian, as she positioned the other empty chair carefully on her other side - across from Ian.

At the reply to enter the Office, Adi pushed open the door then stepped in. "Hello Professor Head of House,'' he greeted cheerfully, hoping he hid all traces of the little nervousness he was feeling. "How are-'' Adi stopped midway. He had noticed Ian and instantly he knew what his visit here was about.
Adi diverted he eyes from the boy, feeling that now familiar twinge of annoyance he did whenever he saw him. Back to Professor Nairne. Was it him or did she look nervous too? Why couldn't Ian keep his mouth shut? Adi had given him a chance to make things right but he blew it big time so now he had to come running to the woman before them to fix it? Why bother her with a problem that he and AJ had put behind them?

Deciding to follow Adi up to the castle, AJ was only a few feet behind him the whole time. She didn't want to seem clingy, but she was only too curious as to what this could be about. Her earlier thoughts about it involving Ian had not left her. What else could this be about? Adi was a perfect prefect. If that were the case then Hadley needed to know the whole situation.
In front of her she saw him go inside the office. AJ was going to be a good little lion and wait for her boyfriend outside. Surely this wouldn't take too long, as she wasn't always known for her patience.

Hayden stepped into the office when she was invited. She paused for just a moment to glance around and take in her surroundings. There were a lot of reminders of her professor's family, of her husband and new(ish) baby. Hayden took a seat and smiled at Hadley. Well she wasn't Hadley anymore but it would take a bit for Hayden to get used to not calling her that.
"Hello Professor, did you have a good holiday?" She bet it was good for her to be home with her family. Hayden had certainly enjoyed it. It was much better than the previous year, when they had all been trapped in the castle. Hayden lifted the gift and held it toward her head of house. "I brought you this." A Christmas - or whatever holiday Hadley celebrated. It was for her baby; a yellow bib with a black badger stitched on the front. As soon as Hayden had seen it she's thought of her head of house. She just hoped Hadley liked it.

Ian shifted nervously in the chair as the professor summoned the prefect. He had hoped to avoid all of this. He just wanted to sleep somewhere else. He didn't think bringing Adi in would help because he didn't think there was any hope of reconciliation.
That feeling wasn't made better upon Adi's face. He just stated at the professor and then started to speak. I just wanted to sleep somewhere else. he didn't say it much louder than a whisper.
