DADA Homework #1-Post 3

Jasmine decided to try Glacius Duo again. Since she had just started to get the spell right, she wanted to make sure that she got it a little more consistently. She was ready. All she needed was a salamander to cooperate. As soon as the thought crossed her mind, more salamanders started to scurry across the floor.

Jasmine picked the nearest one and began to take aim. Raising her wand, she followed the salamander with it and her eyes. Once she was locked onto her target and totally focused, she unleashed the spell. "Glacius Duo", Jasmine said, as she made a forward slash with her wand. She watched as the spell hit the salamander and immediately froze it. Jasmine smiled. She was two for two with Duo and that was a first. Hopefully she had turned a corner with this spell. Going over to retrieve the frozen animal, she placed him back in the flames.

Now Jasmine was heading into unchartered territory. She had never successfully completed the Glacius Tria spell. Well there was no time like the present. Jasmine spotted another salamander and decided to go for it. Wand at the ready, she made a sideways, counterclockwise slash. Unfortunately, in the time that it took her to carry out her wand movement, the salamander had moved out of range. Jasmine missed him by quite a bit.

Not wanting to end on a negative, Jasmine was determined to get it right. She tried again and would continue to try again, if necessary. Hoping that this would be the last time, Jasmine found her salamander and concentrated.....really concentrated. She pictured him being frozen and vowed to make it happen. Aiming her wand again, Jasmine anticipated the salamander's movement this time. "Glacius Tria", she shouted, as she made the required wand movement. This time, the result was different. This time Jasmine froze her salamander, a lot. With a sigh of relief, Jasmine got the salamander-scicle and took him back to the warmth of the fire. She had done it! Wanting to end her session on a good note, Jasmine decided to call it quits. She would be back for more practice later.

As was previously decided, she'd be trying something other than 'Glacius' because a Salamander at a time wasn't working for her and just now her belly grumbled which was the surest sign it was time to start wrapping up in this room. While she walked around the room, she was acutely aware of the scurrying salamanders but she was a looking for a cluster of a fairly decent size to get the spell tested on. It just so happened that she found that cluster doing Merlin knows what, the point is she found them crawling over each other. Poor things were probably trying to find some warmth. They were going about it the wrong way.

Lex gave a forward slash this time, gearing up for the change in spell. Before uttering the incantation she was sure to keep focused and concentrate on getting the intent right, then "Glacius Duo!" If possible she tried for a little extra intent, knowing that Professor Airey's wand might not have been willing to work with her.

As luck--and obviously skills--would have it, there wasn't a single salamander moving about in that area and needless to say Alexa was VERY pleased with herself. This was by far the best way to end this kind of homework.

After admiring her handiwork one last time, she walked around casting 'finite' to unfreeze the poor things before casting at the frozen fire (again don't ask) too. Unlike the salamanders though, there was nothing there with the ice removed forcing her to relight the fireplace. No big deal, she'd still accomplished what she wanted and now she could go eat.

Maybe some extra syrup on her pancakes for a job well done.

She wasn't aware of salamanders behaving in a vengeful manner, but she figured anyone would if their friends were at stake, even creatures. So when a fiery salamander charge at her, Beverly didn't wait to see what it'd do. Sure, she was bigger than the thing, but still, she didn't want to risk any welts.

Hopping onto the stands, she waved her wand furiously, tracking the salamander's footsteps as it ran under the stands, then tried to hop onto where she was. HA! Short stuff wouldn't be able to reach her.

Just because it had been stupid enough to try and attack her, Beverly made a side slash with her wand, counter-clockwise, and chanted, "Glacius Tria!"

The salamander jumped, her spell missed.

"Glacius Tria!" Stop moving, you stupid thing. She tried again. "Glacius Tria!"

This time her spell hit, and the salamander landed with a THUD. Yeah, what now, bud. Smirking to herself, Beverly levitated the tiny critter and set it beside its friend she had frozen earlier. She wasn't heartless. Her job here was done so they were free to go.

Before exiting with a pleased look on her face, she unfroze them. Now...time for food.

"Duo is a forward slash, and Tria is one to the side," Dima recited confidently. It had taken a while to memorize those movements, but DADA was one of his most difficult subjects, and Dot was smart. He certainly hadn't wanted to slow her down today; if that meant having to spend a while studying the spells and how to cast them, then so be it.

The cleverest? A beam crossed his face at the compliment, but they both knew he was far from obtaining that title. "Try it, then. You'll get it, and then we can find something more fun to do than sit around and freeze itty bitty salamanders."

Meanwhile... Dima was going to get this Tria out of the way. Side slash, right? "Glacius Tria!" Aaaaaand slash!

The creature he'd been pointing at was freezing over, and... it was obvious he'd been practicing, wasn't it?

"Dima," Dot was just madly impressed by him at the moment, and she sat back on her heels and applauded him soundly. He did the Duo AND the Tria on first try, and he remembered the incantations and wand movements up in his big brain, AND he just looked dashing and stupendous and all sorts of good words when he was casting. "You're as good at that as Aunt Cela. Been practicin', I can tell."

She hadn't been. It wasn't cockiness, it was just that she was extremely busy with things that interested her, and homework and practicing did not. She'd have to try harder, though, if she was going to keep up with Dima. Stay with him in classes and things. Be best friends forever and ever.

"I'll try another one, and then we can go find something to do." She used Dima to climb to her feet, and then Dot's concentration was focused on the fire. Perhaps too intensely, because she was seeing things that weren't even there climbing out and slithering away across the floor, bright figures from where the flames were burning shapes against her retinas. She had to finally look away and blinkblinkblink, and when she looked back, there was a salamander trying to escape.

HERS! SNOWBALLS AND ICE CUBE TOES IN HER BED. "Glacius Duo!" Wand slashing across her body, and the little salamander went stiff as a reptile-pop. Yummy. "I did it!"

Cinna beamed at Lux, after she had given her a thumbs up. She stopped for a moment to watch Lux try to get another salamander. Which she did! Yay, go Lux! She was super proud of her bestie who was doing such a great job on this assignment.

Cinna only needed to do one more salamander. Using Glacius Tria this time. She looked around watching some of the others and waved to Lux as she left to go get some food. She would soon be joining her. All of this work was making her hungry. And she was hungry even before she had started the assignment.

So she waited until a salamander came near her. She wasn't going near them. They came to her. She waited and watched as others done the spells and froze the salamanders. Finally there was one near her. Raising her wand to it she made the sideways slash movement and said "Glacius tria!"..... Nothing.

She did the wand movement AGAIN. "Glacius Tria!" She did it this time. She froze a third Salamander. Yay, team Cinna! Now she could go work on the written portion and GO EAT FOOD!

Caleb had to really get his act together. Leaving homework till the the last minute was not a good idea - too much stress. He was going to lose his perfect hair!

It was kind of hot in here...probably because of those salamanders and stuff. That was what he was here for! Finding a nice corner with a good number of flaming salamanders, Caleb tossed his bag to the side and then took his wand out of his pocket.

He picked a salamander - one who was kind of just hanging out there, an easy target - and cleared his throat. The wand motion for this one was, at least, pretty easy. "Glacius!" he exclaimed, pointing straight at the salamander. Thankfully, the creature was so boring, he had no idea what was coming and he was immediately extinguished. It didn't seem to notice for a moment - but then it let out a squeal and ran into the corner, looking all blue and sad.

Aww. Now Caleb felt kind of bad....

Not even subtle at all.

But then... he was addressing her? And what he SAID made her grunt again. "You're asking my help? Thought after that potions class, you'd be a finely-tuned grand master at these spells."

Yeah, she went there. Accusatory tone and all.

She would show him, though, because she wanted to show off and aimed at the nearest salamander as it scampered by, waving her wand in a quick side-slashing motion, "Glacius Tria!" The darn thing got away from her, though, and Soph's eyes narrowed. Ruuuuuuuuude of it. Didn't it know she had something to prove here? She abandoned her spot on the wall to move closer to the thing as it continued to crawl around with surprising speed and aimed again, slashing her wand to the side once more, "Glacius Tria! GLACIUS TRIA!" HA. Got it that time.

...And she looked to Cutty, her expression stoic. "...Buggers are fast."

"I am, booht I joost couldn't remembeh the wand motion for that one. I always seem to get them confused." He fake confessed with casual arrogance as if they were discussing the boiling point of water. It struck him as oh so amusing that she thought after using magic without permission from 'His Mother's Friend' he'd be an expert.

Merlin bless Sophie Brown.

She didn't verbally answer his question, but what she did was infinitely better through demonstration. The salamanders now energized from their meal of peppers. Cutty brought himself back up to his feet and did as Sophie Brown did. Side slash and, "Glacius Tria!". Purposely, he missed the salamanders who all went scattering quickly to all parts of the room.

"And able to dodge nearly anything you throw at them." He confirmed her last statement by adding to it.
