Marigold stifled a yawn as she walked into class, offering a "Hello," to the professor and going to sit next to Zahra. It was certainly different, but she didn't have the energy today to be completely shocked. She shot a sleepy smile at Z, then laid her cheek on her hand and wished she was back in bed. |
Carrying his cauldron in his hands, he walked towards the classroom slowly. He wasn't really sure what to think at the moment. Professor C was a very confusing man. Also, yes for the record he had brought his notebook and potion's book, but they were in his bag. And it WASN'T because he read the noticeboard-because did anyone really read those? Well, this Gryffindor certainly never did. Never really got around to it really. So he had absolutely no clue that he was supposed to leave his cauldron back in the dormitory today.... Oops. So with cauldron AND potions kit in hand- couldn't fit in his bag on account of the book and stuff- he walked in and first saw Professor Culloden at his usual desk. He gave the man an unsure sort of smile and a "...Hi Professor?...." Now to find a--- WHAT? The Gryffindor just stared. 'Cause what? This place was definitely different. Did someone get a haircut? ... No. It looked WAY different. Did EVERYONE get a haircut? Wait no. Wait. Desks? Wait. Huh? Wait. Alternate potions universe that didn't have cauldron stands? Wait. What. .........? "Huh????" |
Er...Why the change in the Potions room? This was the Potions classroom, right? Adi scanned his surroundings. Yup. Plushy chairs. Washbasin. A cool and awesome Professor that was Culloden. Yep. He was in the right room. "Hello, Professor.'' Adi grinned cautiously at the man. He had gotten the feeling something was up with him since their first lesson. The way Culloden had greeted him then gave it away. Adi spotted Jasmine. His favourite Ravenclaw. Why not sit with her today? He wasted no time in taking the vacant seat next to her. "Hiii, Jasmine.'' A wide grin for her. Ugh! And these desks! Adi was NOT accustomed to these in Potions. Could they just be gone? |
SPOILER!!: Adi Jasmine looked up when she heard her name called. "Hey Adi", Jasmine said with a smile. "What's up? I'm trying to figure out what's going on with the change in decor here. I wonder what Professor Culloden has planned for us today?" Jasmine was glad that Adi decided to sit next to her. It was always nice to have a friend nearby. |
Dec patted his face in an effort to look more awake. At least, he got three hours of sleep this time. Self-high-five!! He walked into class, blinking a few times at the set up. Mmmm....'kaaaay... Either the boy had fallen asleep somewhere and he's dreaming of potions class or this is for real. No potion making today? Totally cool on his watch. "Good day, Professor?" Declan greeted, the man as he made his way to his seat. He lingered, not because of the stupid fairytale get up, but to make sure that this man DID NOT FORGET HIS NAME. Wouldn't be cool, man. |
mention to Zahra! mention to Kace. AND PROFESSOOOOR <3 Puck glanced at Kace and sighed. She was NOT sitting next to the inflated oaf of a friend of hers…see she wasn’t mad, she just didn’t want to sit there. She needed to apologize for things after that potion…thing. ”Hello Professor!” oh daaaaaaarn what was his name? Professor grumpy pants was SO not it. THERE WAS ZAHRA! She grinnned and sent her lion friend a giant beam before moving to find a seat. She sent Kace a quick soooorrry expression but still turned and sent her attention back to Zahra. "COME SIT WITH ME!" She whispered rather loudly at her friend. |

Kevin was happy. And no this wasnt a he's up to something happy. He truly was happy and it was shown on his face when he entered the room. The room looked different from what he was used to but that didn't matter to him. As long as it was potions it was good enough. As he noticed the Professor, the boy stopped smiling for a second because this whole thing was a bit awkward . Why? Because that person right there, the one he didn't get alomg with had offered to help him out with advanced potions. So instead of ignoring him like always, the third year said his very first "Hello Prof" in public. He then turned around and sat down somewhere. |
Text Cut: Replies ...and closed the door to begin the class. "Good morning, everyone," he greeted them again, "today, as you can say, we will have a theoretical class to fully understand what a potion is. Discussion among yourselves is encouraged." He paused, in case anyone wanted to bring out their notebooks. "You can look at your books, but please do not read the passage out loud. Instead, tell me what you understand from it." Clear? "Let's begin with the most basic question: What is a potion?" OOC: The lesson has started, so please do not post coming in late. This lesson will be faster than usual. I do NOT expect you to catch all the questions, nor will I wait for you. I will try to post according to timezones. Feel free to have discussions ^_^ I only have one rule: If it's a list of things, one answer per person. Thank you! |
Samantha decided to not look at the textbook because she wanted to see if she understood the theory for herself. She then raised her hand. "A potion can be a liquid that can cure the drinker or poison them." |
While Lux was excited for this class, she had to admit that she wished she could be brewing potions instead of just learning about them. Oh well. At least she would be gaining more knowledge from an expert potions master like Professor Culloden. Smiling at the man, she took her notebook out. The first question was easy, and Lux immediately raised her hand to answer. "A potion is a magical liquid that is brewed usually in a cauldron and used to create a certain effect on the drinker." That was the most basic way to describe it that she could think of. |
Agatha blinked when the professor told her they would have a pleasant lesson. What did that even mean? She gave him another long look and sat down, taking her time to pull some parchment and a quill out of her bag. She had sort of enjoyed the last lesson because they brewed that very interesting Hate Potion, so she wondered what they'd do that they. Hopefully not a Love Potion because that was just silly. But oh duh, they probably wouldn't brew anything because the man had just told "It's a magical thing that is brewed with ingredients and have some effect on the person who drinks it. Or touches it even." She fixed her hand after she answered and got her quill again to keep taking notes of what others might say. At least the lesson wasn't that boring so far. |
Angel looked at the Professor and raised her hand. "A potion is something you drink when you need different emotions.. like you can get potions for just about anything. Making someone fall in love with you... making someone hate you and even a draught of living dead." Angel wanted to learn that one day but she wasn't going to ask today plus she doubted they'd be allowed to learn it. |
What is a potion? Uhhhhhh......... Zeke raised his hand to answer, though, he was still thinking through his response as the words fell from his mouth. "Depends if you mean potions in the literal sense or if you mean like the subject... cause, potions literally are ingredients put together in a liquid which then do something to the drinker... but potions the subject doesn't just do drinking things... there're balms and salves and things like that too." But they all DID things. So.... yeah. Was that okay? Cause he was feeling his way with this. Stabbing in the dark so to speak.. hehehee. |
She hadn’t expected a theory class. Honestly, that confused Brooklyn. Shouldn’t they have done this before they’d just jumped into actually making potions? That would’ve made sense to her, but apparently things were backwards. Or maybe Professor Culloden hadn’t had any potions for them to make in class today. That would’ve been unfortunate, but a reason for the boredom. Or maybe he just hadn’t wanted to deal with any more explosions. She’d been so focused on trying to figure out why they weren’t actually making any potions today that she’d almost missed his posing a question to the class. She’d thought about not answering. It was kind of a stupid question after all, but she finally raised her hand. “A potion’s something, usually a liquid but sometimes not, that’s made in order to do something. To influence things or cause reactions or fix them.” It made sense to her. Plus, people didn’t always have to drink the potions. They could be spread on stuff and had lots of other uses than just as something to drink. Even she knew that. |
Jasmine was really glad to see Professor Culloden looking more rested today and he seemed to be in a very good mood........but what?........no practical portion to the lesson today! That was a disappointment. Jasmine was really hoping to redeem herself from the debacle that was the last lesson. Next time. Anyway, she could always use more "potions" knowledge. Question time. Jasmine raised her hand to respond. She really had to learn to be quicker on the draw because if not, all of the good answers would be taken. "A potion is a magical liquid that one brews in a cauldron. It is meant to have some effect on the person who drinks it, either positive or negative." |
They weren't going to have a practical portion to the lesson? Kevin was highly dissapointed. The reason why he liked potions was because he could be busy with his hands and keep his mind off of things while focusing on it. But theory was just....boooring. Like in the room of requirement, the boy groaned at the thought of having to open his text book but did so anyways. But then closed it again. He wanted to try and answer the questions by himself without the help of a book. What was a potion? .........eeeeh.... good question. You see, Kevin was good at making potions. Practical stuff. Theory just went one ear in the other ear out. Maybe he should change that, especially because the man had told him to meet back at the lab after class was done...and he didn't want to look stupid. "A potion is....magical..liquid...stuff...yeah" ......... Yup, he was WAAAY better at making them. MWEH he really needed to open those text some day. |
Hady pulled out her textbook, quill and a piece of parchment so she could take notes. Why didn't they have a theoretical class during the previous lesson? Surely that would have made more sense then having one now, after they've already made a potion. Flipping her textbook open she read the passage about potions. Slowly she raised her hand into the air to give her answer. "Normally a potion would be a liquid that is used to either help or harm someone depending on the intent of the maker." That was right wasn't it? |
One look at Collarbin's sweet smile and she knew he was mocking her. Breakfast was had, sure, but how much sleep, Sir, HOW MUCH?? Her eyes were adjusting now after that short nap she'd taken at breakfast but you never knew. The safest bet was always a late start. Give everyone enough time to get everything done. Just saying. Her expression turned for a moment before she was able to mask her surprize. Theory class? Why had no one bothered to mention this to her before--scratch that, it was probably on the notice board that the Gryffindor hardly read. She knew when she had what classes, knowing what they'd be doing in those classes just seemed all kinds of excessive and required her actually going to check the board. No big deal. She was still getting the hang of Professor Airey's wand and didn't wanna try it with this potion just yet so theory worked perfectly. "A potion's a liquid that alters the behaviour or appearance of an object or person." To put it simply. She could have gone more in depth but that would require opening her textbook. That would happen later. |
SPOILER!!: Cosgrach Ian listened to the explanation about today and decided this would be a good time to pull out his potions notebook. It had the cumulative knowledge he had gleaned for the last 3 plus terms. He opened it and prepared to take notes. He also pulled out his textbook just in time to hear the professor's question. Ian raised his hand and waited while others answered. When it was his turn, Ian answered, It's a combination of ingredients with different properties that produce a reaction, hopefully the desired reaction. It's very similar to work in chemistry amongst muggles, sir. |
Uhhh, oops. Looks like everyone had covered this already, but Toby still raised his hand to contribute, sort of waving it around as he did. "A potion is something with magical effects that you brew, by adding things to a cauldron and heating it or cooling it and stirring it in very very specific ways." Sure, let's go with that. Not what the texbook said but Toby wasn't one for remembering things verbatim. He was just sort of winging it here, being much better at the practical portions and knowing about ingredients and everything. |
Adi glanced around the room once more. "It's quite a change,'' he admitted to Jasmine. Change good be good but they always took some time to get used to it. "I'm wondering that my self. After a Hate Potion, it would be really interesting to see.'' Speaking of the Professor. He was getting the class started. ............................ A theoretical class? Well okay then. This was unusual. But...a potion. What was it? Adi pieced together a reply before raising his hand. "A potion is a liquid made from various combined ingredients that each give the potion the quality it is being made for.'' |
A theoretical class...huh? Oh well...plenty of time to mix potions later. As to the professors question, raising his hand Cyprien said "A potion is a mixture that is usually brewed in a cauldron and can have any number of effects on the person drinking the potion." Hopefully that was enough. Cyprien hadn't left out any important detail had he? |
Silas was beaming BEAMING as he raised his hand to answer his FAVE professor EVERRRRRR! Sure he had heard similar answers, but whateva. " Professor, a potion is a collection of ingredients brewed according to specific order and direction. The finished product could have either a positive or negative effect on the drinker depending on the nature of the ingredients and their effect." BAM. He sounded like such a smarty pants in his own mind. Hehe. |
SPOILER!!: This! The man had said 'Hello' back and Gabriel relaxed...for no real reason. It was just nice to...say hello to someone. He was usually too overwhelmed... Getting out his notebook and quill, he did some formatting; allowing that to busy his mind. It was easier to forget that people were surrounding him when he centralized his focus on those types of things...and yes, he'd noticed the lack of cauldrons. Whatever was going on, the professor would tell them soon enough...SO, Gabe tried not to stress about this too much. It was unknown but not dangerous. NOT dangerous... SPOILER!!: Potions' notebook! He'd answered the question in his notebook...and mumbled the answer aloud...because it was okay to try and participate. It was. He'd be okay... "A potion is a.....uh, liquid with healing, magical, or erm, poisonous properties......verbatim." Dictionary definition. There. That wasn't........so hard. BREATHE. BREATHE OUT THE STRESS. |
