A polished oak desk contraption sits in the centre of the library. A few low shelves contain books that have been returned or books that are on hold. You can also loan books from the library’s vast collection of books here or objects like crystal balls, telescopes, and a few odd items. Behind the desk, sitting upon a dark cushioned stool, is the librarian, his head bent over some old rolls of parchment or a book.
As you approach, Mister Kitridge looks up and greets you with a friendly and warm smile. "Good day. How may I help you?" He is eager to assistant anyone who visit the library; whether it would be in retrieving a particular book, giving recommendations, sharing a story or two with a student or colleague or in some other way.
The Librarian dudes excuse was hilarious, legit, but still hilarious. "My mum has a saying for that," he mused, "you need to develop CONSTANT VIGILANCE!" Yep.. he may have said that last part a little too enthusiastically, but it was true. Expect EVERYTHING and ANYTHING all of the time and be AWARE of your surroundings! Huzzah! And that was rule 1 in How to Stay Alive by Emily Browne. Hehehehehe. She didn't know about the book yet, but he was piecing it together from what she'd been telling him.
Still, the Librarian dude asked good questions, it was a pity he couldn't see the correlation, especially considering he was the Head of House for the SMART house... but... oh well. You win some, you lose some. "Oh it's relevant, trust me!" he stated firmly. "See.. I don't know if I could PRODUCE a black hole, but a Vanishing Cabinet could still symbolise a black hole. Things go in or get 'sucked in' at one end," he even used his fingers to make air quotations at they hypothetical sucked-in-ness of a black hole, "and then they come out at the other side in a completely new place... or you know, 'universe' or or... 'dimension'... who knows really, I've never been through a back hole before, but it's something like that."
And... so... it was actually a good thing the Librarian asked. "You don't know where I'd be able to FIND a Vanishing Cabinet do you?"
He accepted the books that were summoned to him, but they looked big, and heavy... and he wasn't sure he had the patience to go through all those pages to get to what he wanted. Boooo.

As she fiddled with some books her greens eyes kept glancing at Leo as he spoke to Zeke. She smiled to herself and her own thoughts as she continued. Noticing the shudder she chuckled and glanced at both “Oh Leo, it’s not creepy when you understand it like I do. You have to remember I’m a professional.” She beamed fully confident in her Divination skills. “Plus I’m not going to use the darkest part of necromancy just the fun part.” This time giving Leo a little wink.
Her focus went to Zeke as he asked a question, “Cake? I do love treats. I’ll tell you what. We will have our meeting and towards the end I’ll have the house elves make a cake for a treat.” That sounded perfect. Such a great request!
Looking back towards Leo again she tapped the counter, “Can you help me with the books?” She knew where the books were, she knew the library pretty well, but going to do it herself would mean less social time with Mr. Kitridge.
Blinking at Zeke he responded. "Your mum is a wise woman. I do try to keep vigilant but I don’t always succeed," which was exactly why he had been battling a book for the better part of the morning. Then Zeke went into a long explanation about the difference between sinkholes and vanishing cabinet Leo lost him somewhere in the middle. Shaking his head with a smile Leo said "I'm afraid I don’t know much about either black holes or vanishing cabinets. I can only provide you with reading material." He’d leave it to Airey and Piers to answer Zeke’s particular questions.
Shrugging he said "No, I don’t know where you can find a vanishing cabinet Zeke but I think Professor Cassie is on to something. At Hogwarts many times its just about finding the right place and your wishes might get fulfilled." The only place that possibly could show Zeke a vanishing cabinet was the Room of Requirement but it’d be a risk.
Turning to Cassie he said "I can't promise that I'll make it to the SNAC meeting but I'll stop by if I have time. Thanks for the invite." The subject even if Cassie knew what she was doing was creepy and dark. Cake or no cake Leo wasn’t going to promise to go and then having to cancel last minute. Walking around the desk to stand beside Cassie, he stuck his hands in his robe pockets. "Sure I can help you find the books," With a glance to Zeke he asked. "Do you want to tag along too?"

It sounded correct from what Gregoire could remember. So now what did he have to do? Would the Librarian just let him take it or what? Back at Beauxbatons, Gregoire didn't visit the library much. Even when he did it was because one of his classes was meeting there, and the books were already waiting for them to use on the tables in their study area. Gregoire started to take a close look at the cover. Hopefully this book would have the information he would need.
Wondering Gregoire asked the librarian "Savez-vous anything about Malefaisant?"(Do you know, Maleficent) He could use some other information about this topic from someone else. Especially the Librarian. If anyone would know the answer it would be- well you'd expect it to be about the person who practically spends most of their lives around books.
"Wonderful." Leo chimed. Taking out the card from the back of the book he slipped it into the boy for Slytherin loans. He was about to continue with his paperwork when the boy asked him a question about a fairytale character no doubt. Looking up Leo furrowed his brows in thought. "No, I can't say I've heard of Maleficent but if it's a fairy tale then it should be told in the book I just gave you." He supposed that some modern fairytales weren’t included but Leo didn't know if that included the fairytale the boy was looking for. "Do you want to borrow something else too?"

"Good day, Mr. Kitridge," she greeted the librarian/ Head of House as she approached the front desk of the library. Breathe. After seeing the quidditch pitch disappear, Penelope was feeling a little weak and lightheaded. Her eyes were wide with fear, and seemed to be staring at Mr. Kitridge. Quidditch pitches didn't just disappear. She leaned a little closer to the librarian. "The whole quidditch pitch was swallowed up by a giant sinkhole." Standing up straight again she pulled out a piece of parchment that had a list of topics that she was looking for books about. "Do you have any books on these topics?"

She paused by the desk and looked up at the man. Funny, but she couldn't even remember who the librarian was at first. Sad. She should really care more about her studies. Meh. Oh, well.
There were a few others at the desk, so Sophie just kind of hung back while she waited for the librarian. She didn't even know what to say to him, really. She and casual reading just didn't get along.
The morning had started off slow so when Penelope and Samantha made their way up to the front counter Leo had just come back from enjoying a cup of coffee in his office. "Good day Penelope and Samantha." Leo greeted two of his eagles with warm smiles. Before he could ask for the nature of their visit Penelope just casually leaned in closer and told him that the whole pitch had been swallowed up by a giant sinkhole. Eyes widening in shock he asked looking from Penelope to the silent Samantha. "Do you know if anyone was injured? Has the headmistress and groundskeeper been notified? You two weren’t out there when it happened I hope?" Merlin, what was going on? He’d have to get to the bottom of what was going on at lunch. Sinkholes couldn’t exactly be a common thing in Scotland right?
Shaking his head Leo focused on the piece of parchment that Penelope pushed towards him. Reading it over he said "I've got a wide variety of books in all those genres. What would you like to read about most?" And with that question he basically meant pick one or two. He could get Penelope books in all genres but that’d be too much.
Behind Penelope and Samantha he spotted a brunette (Sophie Newell) that had just come up and stood behind the other two just looking up at him silently. Smiling warmly at the girl he waved her closer. "Good day, welcome to the library. I’m Mr Kitridge, the school librarian. What can I help you with? Are you looking for a new book to read?"

Mr. Kitridge seemed just as shocked as she was to find out that the pitch had been swallowed up by a giant sinkhole. "No, we weren't out there. I was looking out the window in my dorm when it happened. I couldn't tell if anyone was out there. I doubt that the groundskeeper could have missed it, but I don't know about the headmistress." Had Mr. Kitridge ever looked out a window in Ravenclaw tower? They had excellent views of the grounds, including the sinkhole that used to be the quidditch pitch. It was too far away to easily spot people on the pitch, but perfect for seeing giant sinkholes appear. A whole quidditch pitch being swallowed up by a sinkhole was hard to miss when you were looking at the pitch out the window. "Maybe we should contact the headmistress." You know, just to make sure Truebridge hadn't fallen into the sinkhole or anything.
Which genres did she really want to read about? Sinkholes seemed important for investigating the quidditch pitch sinkhole. It was hard to decide what other books she might want the most. Crystallomancy was probably the most important for her to learn about right now because they had been focusing on that in divination. The other genres could wait. "I would like to read about sinkholes and crystallomancy, please." She would have to investigate the sinkhole.

Noticing the crowd of students in the library she felt bad, she had been taking up his time. Time that she didn't need to waste, plus why was she really doing it. It wasn't like it was.. no, she had been just wasting his time. She knew where books were. Giving him one of her happy smiles, though she was rather disappointed that he was probably not going to show. She could see why though if he thought it was creepy, but it was part of her. The entire subject was, so maybe things were better this way, "Oh of course. You are a busy man, I wouldn't dream of expecting you."
He was moving, where was he going? She tried not to show the blush that hit her cheeks as he moved closer and said he'd help her look. "Well that's sweet of you Mr. Kitridge. It will help my meeting run smoothly having them." Plus she got a little extra time to spend with her.. friend. It was a win win situation in her eyes.
Looking back at Zeke she beamed, "Yes if you want to search for some creepy books with us you are welcome." Giggling a bit looking at Leo because she was only joking about the books.

When Penelope asked about the books on sinkholes and crystallomancy, Samantha said quietly to her, "How about we study those two subjects together?"
Leo gave up a small sigh of relief. "I'm glad you too weren't out there and didn't decide to run out and look at the mess the sinkhole caused. It was very wise of you to stay inside." He complimented his two eagles. They had done the right thing. "I'll contact the headmistress. I'm sure the groundskeeper has already notified her of what has happened."
"Don't go near the sinkhole until we've taken security measures." Leo instructed. He didn’t want any of his eagles to go out there exploring to satisfy their curiosity and getting injured in the process.
Now on to books! Grabbing his wand Leo accioed forth two books pertaining to the subjects Penelope was interested in. Holding up the slightly thicker book he said "This one is about sinkholes. I hope the language isn’t too difficult. It's pretty scientific but the pictures should help." He unfortunately didn’t have that many books in the subject. "The book about crystallomancy should be an easy read." Pushing the books towards Penelope and Samantha he waited for possible further questions.

Shoving his hands in his robe pockets Leo started to lead the way towards the divination section of the library."So was it just books on necromancy you were looking for? Any particular titles or authors?" he wondered as he stopped to peer up at the book titles.

No need to make Sophia think she was trying to do anything she really wasn't. She was allowed to be his friend even if he was dating her. Though she did take a step away just out of habit.
Walking just a step behind him she smiled, "Was just looking for books, to see what was here. I'm assuming once we do this and it works, which I know it will, I've done it plenty of times. Students will probably be curious to learn more and what better way then to read." She loved reading and the knowledge that could be obtained from a book.

Penelope smiled at Mr. Kitridge. He had complemented her on being wise not to go near the sinkhole. Her head of house had said she was wise. She was proud to be a wise Ravenclaw.
She didn't even have to be told not to go near the sinkhole to know not to. Only a Hufflepuff would be stupid enough to do that... Or a very brave Gryffindor... Or a very curious Ravenclaw. Forget about Hufflepuffs, anybody could go near that sinkhole for any reason. Mr. Kitridge was wise to warn them to stay away from it. "I will stay away from the sinkhole."
Ooh, books. The book about sinkholes looked like it might be difficult to read, but reading it could be a fun challenge. She should be able to learn a lot from both books. "Thank you, Mr. Kitridge"

Sophie was still looking around the library like it was this faraway land when she realized she was being greeted. Oh. Okay, hi. Sophie turned to meet the man, the one she knew was the Librarian, but only because she just knew that from going to school here. She'd never actually talked to him in the library before...or about books for that matter.
"Hello. I'm Sophie Newell," she said. Huh? Looking for a new book to read? Uhh... She hadn't really thought about why she was here. "Oh, erm. No, I'm just...seeing what this place looked like. It's nice. I don't actually read for fun, though."
Was that a crime or something? To tell a Librarian you don't like to read for fun?
She nodded not wanting him to feel bad, "No it's fine if you don't. You are super busy with the library, so it is very much okay. Plus I don't want to come between you and other things." "What other things?" Leo repeated confused. Cassie must mean gobstones he reasoned. He didn’t have other things going on in if she didn’t mean Gobstones or his obligation to take care of the eagles of course. Sometimes he honestly didn’t get women. If he said he'd try then he would. He didn’t make such promises unless he meant them. "You should come watch some of the gobstones matches. Ab and I are advising a new match soon." Leo offered. Could they steer away from the confusing stuff now please?
"The divination section is pretty vast. I think I even have some divinatory equipment in the storage room if you lack a crystal ball or a tea set?" Leo commented as he stopped in front of section. Letting his gaze sweep over the books he walked over to pick down the book on necromancy from the top shelf which he handed to Cassie. "Here you go."
And he didn’t know what to say to Cassie’s last comment. He agreed in full. Books were the way to learn.

"It’s a pleasure to meet you Sophie." Leo said smiling. Now he’d have to try and not mix her up with the other Sophie that he knew that was a Ravenclaw. It hopefully wouldn’t be a problem.
Intrigued he raised a brow "Why don't you like to read for fun? They're plenty of different book genres to choose from." Which normally meant that everyone could find something to read that fit just them.

"Oh you know, just everything you have to do. Gobstones, Head of house, the Library, your personal life, it's probably a lot." Yes he was a busy man, see she couldn't get too upset he didn't have the time to spend with her. Plus he was dating Sophia, so yes she wasn't upset. He wanted her to come watch a match, EEEEP! She really didn't know anything about them, but yes she would go. "Certainly, I love cheering on the players." and seeing other things, of course.
"You do?" Oh that was information that she really enjoyed, "I've always loved the Divination section in this library. Even as a student there were always so many things to find." Watching him pull two books she grinned, "I'll have to remember that and take a look at all you have." It just gave her another reason to come for a visit. Reaching for the books she brushed his hand with hers, "Thank you for your help." It was very nice of him to step away from the students to help her.
"Well it was very nice chatting with you Leo, I will get these back before they are do, I promise." She headed back to the front desk to check them out. Turning back towards him, "Hope to see you soon." She always liked seeing him.
As the search parties formed up and left to search their assigned floors for the mysterious Fairytale book Leo stayed in his own territory. Going over to the front desk counter he picked up his book inventory ledgers for more information about the book they were hunting for. With no author to go on Leo was left with a vague title as his only clue.
Furrowing his brows in concentration he started to methodically go through his lists. When he gave up many, many minutes later Leo had only found a small notation about a fairytale book that dated back to a hundred years ago. He wasn't sure if it was the book they were looking for. Shoving the notice into a robe pocket Leo went to the fairytale shelves and searched their for clues or even a sight of the book.
Coming up with pretty much nothing of use Leo left the Front Desk area to get back to the book meeting area. Hopefully the other searchers would have better success.

Zhenya made her way up to the front desk, seeing Mr. Kitridge was there. She cleared her throat gently, not wanting to scare him or annoy him by being loud. She wasn't loud anyway. Especially not in a library. Imagine if books had ears, how sensitive they would be! No, anyway…
"Er.. Profe.. Mr. Kitridge," she said, pulling the book from her hands to show him it wasn't a Hogwarts Library book, "In Divination, Professor Cassie hid some of our items and challenged us to find them. Well, this is my book and I found it hiding in one of those shelves over there," she said pointing somewhere far off. "I wanted to come and tell you so that you didn't think I was stealing a book or anything." She wasn't a stealer, and she would never steal from a library!

Leo was busy filling out a new order of books from Flourish & Blotts when he heard a familiar voice address him. Looking up over his list Leo smiled. "Good day Zhenya," Pausing to listen he nodded. "I see, well then everything is in order. How did you know you were going to look for your book here in the library? Did professor Cassie give you clues?" He wondered intrigued. Cassie hadn't warned him about her little homework assignment but seeing as the library had no books in arabic he believed Zhenya's story.

Zhenya smiled up at Mr. Kitridge, then held up the map of Hogwarts and the crystal on the string and showed him. "We've been learning how to scry with mirrors, water and crystals, and Professor Cassie set us the challenge to use one of the methods to locate our hidden items. The crystal circled around the library and I just kept following what it was telling me and found it." She was pleased with herself that she had indeed found it.

Leaning over the counter to see better Leo watched as Zhenya demonstrated and explained to him how she had scryed using the crystal on the string to find her book. "That's sounds like a pretty cool and practical homework assignment to me." he commented. "Have you found all your hidden items yet?" Would he have done better in certain subjects in school if he had gotten more practical homework assignments? There was no way of knowing but Leo had always liked to practice things out in some way and not just read about things.

Zhenya smiled. She couldn't agree more! "It was really fun with the crystals but the mirrors and water was a bit harder." They weren't portable either. At least she had her crystal and the map with her if she needed to stop and check. She wasn't sure Mr. Kitridge would appreciate a bowl of water near his books either. Accidents do happen. "This was the only item I gave Professor Cassie. thankfully," she said.
