As you come through the trap door you will find a normal sight. Smaller tables set around the room with pillows for your chairs. A few tea pots set around the room and cups for your liking and a very happy Professor Cassie at the front sipping on her own tea waiting to greet you as you come in.
Though it is normal with the lavender scents and soft relaxing music, you will notice on one table in the front left corner the crystal balls sit waiting to be used, in the back of the room mirrors that might remind you of the awful last lesson stand, in the right front corner bowls are stacked on a table, and on Professor Cassie's desk sits crystals on a string.
Something you might not see is the usual snap cup, but fear not there is a note about that.
Quote:
My snap cup is still missing, but please bring up your proud moments and set in this tea cup! Also remember to set your personal item in the basket before taking your seat. We will discuss these in a moment.
Next to the temporary snap cup you will find a basket. If you remember on Professor Cassie's notice she had asked you to bring one personal item this is where that item should be placed.

Must focus....must focus...must focus
He had to get this done to at least some extent. Even if it was to be a failure since he really had no ability in divination for the most part that he knew of. Actually maybe that would be good, seeing as it would finally set the records straight after the earlier lesson with the crystal ball that had confused him in more ways than one. Benny shook his head as he registered his mind wandering again, his eyes opening once more. A soft sigh escaping him as he did his best to recover. All he had done was switch from thoughts of Angel to thoughts of himself and not of anything that would serve to help him in his last endevour, aka classroom assignment.
Giving up on deeper preparation, he closed his eyes again, this time letting his hands raise to his table in front of him to left the mirror up to be visible to him straight on once he was ready. When I open my eyes I will be focused and alert and stare clearly at the mirrored glass within the frame and see what it might behold, he mused himself working on siking himself out.
Taking a deep breath he was going to try it all again, his eyelids lifting and his gaze shifting from blackened darkness to the actual light level of the room complete with the magnication off the glass in the room. There...there was one fourth year Gryffindor boy staring back at him and as the silent minutes ticked pass that was all he saw.
Toby often had a tendency to let his imagination run away with him, ever since he was a little kid. Which was strange, because he wasn't creative like a lot of people he knew, and imagination usually came hand in hand with creativity. The likelihood was that it was all down to his mind constantly going at warp speed, thus, on a subconscious level, his imagination would stir up many images and thoughts.
And perhaps that was why he had seen things in the crystal ball all those weeks ago, and why he was seeing things in the mirror at this very moment; had he simply gotten lost in a distracted daydream? It was most unlikely that he really had the Sight, after all. Though of course, Toby wasn't thinking that right now, as that was close-minded and not in line with his positive mindset. He wasn't thinking about anything at all, was instead enjoying the view in the mirror.
His grandma, in her music room, playing the piano. That was all. Something inconsequential to many people but something that brought a fond smile to Toby's face. He always enjoyed watching her play, still did, in fact, and it was a scene that always filled him with great happiness. The Hufflepuff watched, completely and utterly zoned out and forgetting he was even in a classroom, and stared at the mirror
It was not any sort of vision. He hadn't Seen it, it was nothing to do with his inner eye. The images from the mirror were simply a result of his distractedness and runaway imagination, though he had no reason to believe it wasn't some sort of vision. Either way, it lifted his mood even higher than it already was, and when Toby was brought back to his surroundings with a proverbial thud, he was smiling ever so widely The Hufflepuff glanced about the room, still very obviously quite pleased, wondering if they might be moving on soon with the amount of time that had already passed.

Was Angel going to be able to keep it together? AJ was keeping an eye on her. If need be, the two of them could get together after class, and she could find out what the problem really was. It had to be a vision, but a vision of what? Why were other people able to have these visions, and AJ got a big fat nothing? Maybe it was all in their heads. They were most likely just thinking too hard on it, and making themselves see things. The mind was a powerful thing, after all.
AJ sighed and looked back at her mirror. Her mind wasn't blank, but she really did try hard to empty it. She stared, and stared some more. Her eyes would gloss over, and she would blink them clear only to stare at her reflection some more.
She moved the mirror right up to her face and THOUGHT she caught a glimpse of something, but realized it was just somebody sitting behind her that had moved. Her breath was leaving traces on the mirror and she was getting nowhere fast. Her stomach was now starting to rumble, and that meant what little bit of concentration she had left was completely gone.
Cinna took a few more sips before she closed her eyes. Relax. Relax. RELAX. Nope not happening she really needed to know what was up with the treehouse thing. What was that all about? Breath in. Breath out. Breath in. Breath out.
Man, she was really going to have to get in together. So she could do this. She sat her tea cup down and opened her eyes. She held the mirror up to her face. Hello beautiful! Ha ha. She slid it over slightly so she wouldn' t catch anything in the reflection. Now let's see if she can get this thing to work.
Stare. Stare. Stare. At nothing apparently. Sighhhhhh. This scrying with the mirror might just bring her to tears.
Maybe she needed to try harder again. It worked last time. So it was going to have to work now. Swirls, like in the crystal ball. She could at least seen that now. Whelp at least this was a start.

So first with the mirror and now with the bowl full of water. He still saw absolutely nothing. The Gryffindor brought his head even closer to the water, as if distance alone was blocking the way. However, he still saw absolutely nothing. Looking around the room, he tried to figure out if other people were having just as much trouble as he was, but he couldn't really decipher the other faces.
Zander wasn't really sure why he was still taking this class to be completely honest. But he was guessing that it had something to do with the fact that Professor Flamsteed said that Gryffindor's never gave up.
So here he was, not giving. More like giving in. Because he was definitely starting to get really tired.
Could they stop now?

No, she was, she was definitely pleased that her inner eye had opened enough to see something. It was just old memories opening up, making her quite sad.
"No, Professor, I don't want you to warm up the room" she said quietly, though touched that the Professor was willing to do that. It helped. She took a deep breath, telling her tears NOT to come! "I was frozen," she said, very very quietly so that only Professor Cassie could hear. "My body was frozen a few years ago and my hand is a bit… damaged. I saw what had happened in the mirror, and I… I didn't like the memories," she admitted, looking down.
OHMYGOSH.. She looked at the girl with wide eyes, "Frozen? Like someone cast a spell on you to freeze you? Why would they ever do that? You are alright though?" She looked to the hand that was in the glove. "Have you seen healers and they say there is nothing they can do?" There had to be something they could do? Maybe Cece or even Cosgrach would know something, anything to help this sweet girl.

He was beginning to feel very sleepy because of the tea and the warmness in the room. He was smiling and thought this was the perfect time to go and look in the water bowl.
He began to look at the center of the water bowl and was seeing something. He was starting to see what looked like an animal. Hmm....it was forming to something with four legs? Could it be a dog? A mythical creature? He had no idea it was just a dark outline of the creature. He kept his focus but then he had to sneeze!
AACHHOOO!!!!!
Then his image was gone! Gahhh! He was sooo close! He grumbled and would try again.
Her green eyes went to another student hearing a sneeze. "Bless you Kace" He wasn't catching a cold was he? Maybe she should disinfect the air just in case? No, he probably just had some dust in his nose or something.
Moving back to her desk she turned to the class. "Alright, if you could head back to your seats we have more to go over." She grinned at them before snapping. "Wonderful job, all of you. This is very hard Divination that you are doing and I am so proud of everyone of you for trying." Even if they hadn't gotten to see anything they were still working extra hard.
"Now another form of scrying uses a crystal on a string." She held up the skinny long crystal that dangled in the air by a string. "This form of scrying is a bit different then the rest. Can anyone tell me why that is or how you use a crystal." Looking around the room she started to call on the students with their hands up.
Eden was settled in her seat when Professor Morgan started talking again----OOOOH. CRYSTAL SCRYING. Eden actually a BIT about that, too! She had seen it on TV once(a muggle show) and had wanted to learn more--
She raised her hand slowly. "Isn't crystal scrying VERY similar to the other two kinds--with the clearing of your mind and stuff? But I think I read somewhere that you have to have a question in mind, right? A specific question?" Maybe Eden was wrong. She might be. "And with the crystal--is there a certain way you have to hold it? 'Connect' with it and whatnot--your energy has to be very MELLOW for it to work--" She nodded some more. Like..any doubt or disbelief, and the scrying wouldn't work at all. Or work WRONGLy. Eden regretted saying all of this as she as she spoke, though, because she didn't know if it was right or not..but at LEAST she had given it shot.......ish.

At the prompting from Professor Morgan, Toby headed right on back to his seat, flopping back down on the comfortable cushions and directing his attention to the professor.
Scrying with a crystal... slightly different... uhhhh... No, Toby didn't know, which was concerning... had he read about it but forgotten? That seemed highly likely; his brain was starting to feel saturated with information from his textbooks, and the Hufflepuff wondered if he'd reached a point where to get new information in, or information needed to be squeezed out. But rather than let himself dwell on that right now, he focused on the question and raised his hand to give it a good guess.
"Do you dangle it in front of your face or something while you try to see something in the crystal?" Toby offered, ready to take notes for when the right answer WAS provided. He did wonder what might be so different in this case as opposed to the others.

Uh oh........... crystals on strings... isn't that like the type of thing women did to find out if they were having a boy or girl? Or was it used on maps to find people? Both of these rang clear bells in his head.
...
....
His hand went up, hesitantly. So much uncertainty. SO MUCH.
"Professor, does it tell you if you're having a baby boy or girl? or how many babies? or if you use it on a map, can it guide to to someone?" Like... if you had something that belonged to them... like the personal belongings they'd surrendered. ????

Sitting at her table, Lux sipped more tea. Now they were moving on to crystals. She had no idea that people could scry with crystals; it seemed that almost anything could be used. Divination was pretty interesting, though she had to admit it wasn't a subject she read up a lot on in advance. Really she found it a lot easier than a lot of other classes.
Time to make a guess, so she raised her hand. Do we try to look at something through the surface of the crystal?" She really had no other ideas.

How was a crystal on a string different than the other forms? Well for starters, none of the other scrying methods involved a string? But... He knew that it probably wasn't an acceptable answer, so instead he chose to stay quiet, but looked around the room to see what others were gonna say anyways. 'Specially Sophie's 'Toberman' because he always had good answers.
And just then Eden began to answer and WOAH. No wonder she was a Ravenclaw. Yeah, Zander was going with hers. It sounded right. Yup.
"I'm gonna have to second what Eden said, Professor," BEAM at you Eden. BEAAAAM.

Hearing a bit of talking come from the sisters, Cassie turned her attention on them. "Is everything alright?" Goodness another one crying. She was excited they were seeing things while scrying, but did it have to be negative things.
Angel tried to stop the tears but nothing was working the vision was horrible. She didn't want to say much to the Professor about it but when she got out of here she was going to give her sister a massive hug and she was going to ask some questions.
"I saw myself.... well I don't want to say where and then you were going crazy and shouting at me." Angel was still crying. "And then... and then you..." Angel stopped she couldn't say it... no she wouldn't say it. "Professor it was horrible." Angel added that on as she turned to the Professor.
Angel was that upset but she still wanted to give the question ago. "You *sob* have to *sob* ask a *sob* question *sob* right *sob*" Angel cried.

Wonderful job? Adi looked up miserably from his bowl of water. He had made so much attempts at scrying and not once did he succeed at seeing the faintest of images. Sitting back in his seat, he turned his attention to Professor Cassie.
Scrying by crystal? Adi didn't know about that. His attempt at the answer was one of total guess work. He raised a hand. "Uh...you swing it from side to side like a pendulum. Maybe..." Hehe. That was sort of a creative answer.

Jasmine was staring blankly, trying to digest what she had seen in the bowl of water. What did it mean? She had no idea, but she had to figure it out. Lost in thought, she was brought back to reality by Professor Cassie's voice. They were moving on, so Jasmine quickly went back to her seat.
There was a new topic to discuss, so Jasmine grabbed her quill and began to write. Crystal scrying? She was not familiar with that. Listening to her classmates' explanations, Jasmine tried to formulate her own. Raising her hand, she went out on a limb........way out. "Maybe you hold the string and let the crystal dangle. Then as the light hits it, it reflects what you want to see onto another surface, like shadows on a wall." It was a crazy idea, but you never know.

Norah stood up reluctantly to the water bowl she had tried and failed to scry with after giving up on the mirror. Sigh.
The second year raised an eyebrow. A crystal on a string? All the other things they had looked at needed a reflection, but strings didn't reflect things, right? Maybe you had to clean the crystal really well so it reflects things. Yeah, that made sense kind....kind of....ish. Raising her hand before she could chicken out, she said "Maybe after you relax 'n stuff you clean the crystal so it gets really shiny and look at the reflection of in the face of it. But I dunno what the string is for..." Shrug. Dipping her quill in her ink pot, she scribbled down "Crystally stringy scrying" and prepared to write down whatever Professor Cassie said was the right answer.
Can anyone tell me why that is or how you use a crystal." Looking around the room she started to call on the students with their hands up.
Kace heard the Professor make the comment and he smiled and sniffled, "Thank you Professor.." I mean it might have been the dust in the room because he wasn't catching a cold. Not that he knew of. Oooh they were doing scrying using crystals? He never knew about that before. He saw it being dangled by a string and he followed it and he saw the flecks of light being reflected in the room. He saw the rainbow colors and thought it was impressive.
Now how do they use a crystal...he really had NO idea. Or why is crystal scrying different from the rest? He had one idea and he raised his hand, "Professor I think you need more concentration to do crystal scrying and I read somewhere that you should do crystal scrying at night...is that true?" he was quite curious about it actually.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Awww, they had to go back to their seats and she still hadn't managed to see anything in either surface. Sigh. No matter, the Professor said there was still another activity which meant another chance to get it right. Positive thoughts were so lovely. They left her all warm and fuzzy inside. It must be how everyone else was feeling too.
Lex sat forward, trying her hardest to listen but no promise she was lost on the idea of scrying with a crystal on a string...
What was that even and how did you do it?? The look on intrigue that now sat on her face was sign enough that she was ready to learn all the things. How fascinating!

Giving the first person to answer a big smile and snaps, "Very good Eden, you do have to think of a specific thing you want to know unlike the other forms that you just clear your mind and see what is shown. Though the others forms can be done like that as well if you are trained well." That might be a bit advanced for most though.

She couldn't help but chuckle, "Zeke have you been around muggles at all?" She knew this was a very fun event for muggles to do, if they only knew it really worked. "Yes, the crystal can answer that question for you, but most muggles seem to think it's just a little game or for fun. We use the scrying a little differently then just finding out what a person is having, but it certainly can be used that way." Of course he got snaps for such a great answer.

Especially if you need to know something more specific." such as locations of missing things. "It depends on the night and the tone of the energy, but sometimes many forms of Divination is more powerful at night. Though all can be done through the day as well." So no worries it would work.

She could feel Lex staring and really listening. Giving her an encouraging grin, she didn't know what came over the seventh year, but it was amazing and Cassie surely thought she finally had gotten through to her! How fabtastic!
Grabbing what looked like a piece of folded parchment she laid it out on the desk. "Now this is a Hogwarts map. It shows all places inside and out of the castle." Holding it up she showed each of the students. "Now as some have said you can do a yes or not question and know the answer based on the drift of the crystal, but you can also locate a lost item." Setting down the map she held up the crystal.
"Now for a yes or no you must think clearly of what you want to know. If you see it move in a straight line back and forth the answer is no, if you see it start moving in a small circle the answer is yes." Looking down at her crystal she thought about a certain thing that had been n her mind most of term and whether t would go her way. The little crystal began to start moving in a small circle and she beamed at the class. "Now back to the map. Now my mischievous kittens are somewhere around the castle, let's find them." She held the crystal over the map and it sat still for a few minutes before slowly moving towards the stables. "Oh good, looks like they are visiting their friends." Though she didn't need a crystal to answer that question with her gift.
"Now I have enough crystals for each of you to take one. Please come up and practice with them using a yes or no question."
OOC: Have your charrie come up and get the crystals and practice. Do this in two posts. You have until Sunday at 7 p.m. EST to do these two posts. Then we will move to the main activity. This class will be worth more points, because we will not be having any homework. Hence why there are three activities.

Ooh, so she was partially right. Interesting. Writing down more notes, Lux listened as Professor Cassie explained scrying with crystals more. It kind of reminded her of the needle test thing muggles did or babies where if the needle moved one way it was a boy and if it moved another way the baby would be a girl. Or something like that.
Curious as to how the crystals could be used to locate something that had been lost, she watched Professor Cassie use one over a map to find her kittens. Whatever she did clearly worked because they were located only moments later. Maybe there was more to this Divination stuff than she had originally thought.
Jumping up from her seat she grabbed a crystal and hung it out in front of her looking at it. Ooooh, it looked so pretty shining in the light and she could watch it shimmer for ages but there was work to do. As she made her way back to her seat she thought about what question she wanted to ask.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Oh so THAT was how this sort of thing worked! Wow who would have thought but it was so neat sounding and now she wanted to try because it didn't sound like it would have been any harder than the scrying from other methods. Those just didn't seem to work for her. Despite that, the Gryffindor would not be daunted. There would be something that worked for her.
Lex hopped up from her seat, ready to grab a crystal when she felt her head spin sharply. Whoa. What was that? She stood perfectly still, waiting for it--whatever it was to subside before putting on a smile and going to collect a crystal. They were SO shiny. She bet they'd do the trick and she didn't even have to pretend to see things in them!
There was a less a pep in her step as she walked back to her table but Lex herself didn't notice. The potion was finally wearing down.
Better get this done quick. Now what would she liked to ask Mr. Crystal on a String. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

What, what, what? He had been right? Partially, anyway. SUPER COOL! Adi's knowledge about Divination was clearly improving but he still lacked the inner eye. Mhmm. Could he learn how to develop one by reading his text book? Hehe.
Adi rose from his seat to collect one off the crystals. Once back at his seat, he studied the thing. What question to ask? He had a feeling that the crystal would refuse to budge anyway.

There were a few questions that Lux considered asking, like if she was going to be with Bay forever but she already knew that she would so there was no need to ask the crystal about it. Instead she decided to ask something related to her future career since there were a number of things that could - and probably would - affect that outcome.
Hoping that she would get the answer she wanted Lux posed the question, "will I be a successful Potioneer?" The crystal moved in a small circle instead of back and forth, so that was a huge relief. Even if it wasn't a test that scientifically proved what her future career held, a positive reply still made her feel better. Hopefully things would actually work out this way since she did want to open a store where she would sell potions that she made herself. Some of said potions would be her own creation once she mastered that. Maybe Professor Culloden could help since she wanted him to be her mentor.

He got snaps... so... he was right? What he didn't understand was why she asked if he had been around muggles at all. Of course he had, he was one... for nine and a bit years of his life. So???? WHAT DID SHE MEAN BY THAT?
Zeke was still pondering the comment/question, when the lesson moved on.
...
All he managed to hear and understand were the terms, simple questions, yes or no, Hogwarts, circle, up and down, and kittens. THEN came a direct command for action. Errr... what now?
Zeke rose from his spot on the floor and went to collect one of the crystals on the string thing and then returned to his seat.
He wasn't about to start anything just yet, he wanted to see what the others were doing first.

His brain finally provided a question.
Adi held up the Crystal on a string as Professor Cassie had done. "Will I be successful at both OWLs and NEWTs?'' he thought, concentrating reallllllly hard on the question. It was not too early to think about those exams. Major examinations always made him nervous.
Still thinking about the question, he watched the crystal. Much to Adi's astonishment the crystal moved in a small circle once. Something had FINALLY worked for him in this class. He was ecstatic! Actually, he was more excited about the crystal moving about than the 'yes' signal he had received from it.
Again Cinna was more focused on taking her notes than answering professor Cassie's questions. She'd let every one else answer and write them out in her notes or the ones that sounded good. So many ways to scrying. And they were practicing on so many different things.
Cinna watched as Cassie as she used the crystal to locate her cats. Wow that was and neat. She didn't know that the crystal could be used as a locator. Now this seem a little more easier than using your inner eye to look into a crystal ball or a mirror or water.
The gryffindor bounced out of her seat to go get a crystal on a string. It was so pretty and shiny. Just like glitter. She plopped back down in her chair. Her eyes still glued to the crystal dangling from a string. She just didn't know what to ask the magic 8 ball crystal.
