The Gryffindor settled into his seat next to his best friend, before looking over with a sheepish smile. "It was all I had on short notice?" he stuffed his hands into his pockets and shrugged just a bit. Heh, whoops? Hopefully no one would notice the pink tint rushing to his cheeks.


As for the scrying bowls. Well really the only guess Zander had included cereal. But not just any cereal, okay. Like the alphabet kind, no wait... That was soup, wasn't it? Maybe they could pour some alphabet soup into a bowl and watch the letters form words and BOOM divination. You can read the future in the convenience of a bowl, while still getting in your daily nutrients. It was actually pretty clever. Hm.

Sophie covered her mouth with her arm as she yawned big - the ambiance of the room and the comfy pillows and the scent of lavender and the soft music combined with the topic in general was making her awfully tired, and she wanted nothing more than to fully lay down, set her notebook aside, and just listen to everything while she rested with her eyes closed. She didn't need to SLEEP sleep, but she really wanted to rest more than she was currently allowed to.

Really, she wasn't sure that this was a subject for her. So... dull. Or maybe it was just the whole objective of calming down and clearing the mind that just didn't work for her.

The professor's "joke" about Snow White made her snap to attention, though, and woke her up a little - she forced some nervous laughter, but she was suddenly VERY aware of her surroundings and was keeping an eye out for anyone acting strangely.

She was further confused about the mention of bowls, then - scrying was so weird. Couldn't they just stick to crystal balls? At least THAT made some sort of sense to her.

Was it just him? Or was Professor Cassie looking at him oddly? Either way he BEAMED in her direction, casually showing her ALL THE TEETH he had in his big big mouth. Yeah. Hi.

He'd sat on an orange cushion and waited, waving and smiling every so often as some of his closer peers joined them. He realllyyy wanted his compass back. He felt WEIRD without it. Legit. Zeke tapped his hands in a rhythmic beat, that lacked proper rhythm, on his leg while he waited.

The introductions were standard, but he did beam as his old snapthing was read out. THAT WAS HIM! Hehehehehe.

Back to the scrying stuff though, and he was kind of not entirely with it yet. It wasn't that the subject was boring per se, but his head just wasn't working just yet. Wasn't it all just the same? STARING and LETTING GO so that you could SEE? At least, that's how he figured it'd work.

And bowls? Ugh. He kind of disliked how the Professor's asked so many questions, why couldn't HE ask the questions and get the answers that way? Cause, how was he supposed to answer a question when he didn't know the answer??? Pooooop!!!!

Zeke wrinkled his nose a little, huffing to clear his nostrils of the noxious lavender fumes.

Everyone was talking about filling it with water, or using the reflections. Obviously there was an element of reflectiveness in all of them. Zeke did wonder though...

"Professor?" he started, with his hand straight up in the air. "Can it give you like.. different perspectives of visions? Like how when you look at a spoon - depending on which side you're looking at, your face might be the right way up or it might be upside down and distorted. Is it like that?" And go figure, he had a better question to ask. "Oh, and can you scry with a spoon too?"

N'aawwww lookit Felix up there getting even more comfy. To think he'd wanted to stay on her bed this morning. Pfft. No. As his owner she needed to let him stretch his legs sometimes and in the absence of everything else she loved in this world, he was the natural substitute. Not saying she preferred any over the other but you got the idea.

The moment the Professor got to demonstrating on the mirror, Leeeeaned forward, hoping she'd be able to see something too but then she was talking about Snow White and and and that was weeeird. Like why was Snow White in the mirror--oh wait, she was only joking. Hah...hahaha, Lex got the joke, honestly she did.

And Grayson was gonna be by the lake? She'd have to ask him about that later for sure.

"I'm gonna guess that you put water in the bowl, disrupt it then wait for it to settle to see what you're meant to." But that was only a guess before her attention shifting to her kneazle once again. Such a cute baaaby.

Angel looked at the Professor and raised her hand. "Are we going to put some water in the bowl and then dump in on someone?" Angel thought that would be cool. "There's nothing like being cold to waken your mind." Angel wasn't sure that this would be happening but everyone else had guess over stuff and no one had guessed this so she decided she wanted to be different.

She wondered how her little joke would go over and by the looks of it not so well, okay moving on. Whoops.

Once she was standing in front of the bowls, she took one and moved it towards her. Pointing her wand and filling it with water she listened to the answers and all the wonderful ideas from her students.

"Very good Zhenya, just as I did right now, we do fill the water into the bowl and the reflective water makes it able to scry with." Giving her snaps she moved to the next one with a hand up.

Zeke had a very creative mind, she already knew this, but his thoughts on things did amaze her. She beamed at him. "That is possible. Depending on the bowl you can get more visuals with larger then smaller ones. So you have a point there." He certainly got snaps for his creative questions. "The best seers can to scrying through any forms of reflective pieces, but it takes years of practice. So for now we will just focus on the basic and most well known ways."

Was it wrong to be a little freaked out by Alexa being so.. happy? Well she couldn't help but watch her a moment before giving her snaps. "Very good you do put water in just as I did. Then clear you mind and start your scrying." Very spot on today Alexa, what was the change? Though Cassie was excited to see it!

So if you haven't mastered the crystal ball do not get frustrated if you don't end up mastering either of these forms for a while either, but I know each and everyone of you have the talent so just keep practicing." Training and dedication were the key.

"Now unlike the mirror, water will move so the images can seem like they are flickering. You must try to find a place that a bowl will not be bumped or there is no vibration that could move the water while you are trying to do your scrying." Were they getting all of this? She knew she was giving them a lot of information, but it was needed. "Now we must not get this form of scrying confused with other forms of Divination that use bowls of water. If you are trying to use the water outside you must be especially careful not to fall into another form." No birds or rocks around the classroom though so no need to worry.

"Now I'd like to give you a chance to try out both these forms. I don't have enough bowls or enough mirrors for everyone to do it at once, so I want half the class to start on the mirrors and half the class will come get a bowl and start with the water. You can decide which you will do first. In about twenty minutes you'll hear a little timer go off that will indicate to switch. So go ahead and get started, if you have any questions feel free to ask." Vanishing the water from her own bowl she took it back to the table so someone else could use it.

OOC: Alright everyone this is the first activity. Have your charrie pick which they would like to do first and RP them doing it. Once done with the first item there will be no timer or anything just have them move to the second. This should be done in at least six posts, three for the mirror and three for the bowl of water. You will have until Friday evening 10 p.m. est to finish the first activity before we move on. Cassie and I will be here if needed!

Bowls and scrying? Since scrying had to do with seeing images on clear surfaces, Adi had a fair idea. "We put something...most likely water in it, before using it to try and see images,'' he supplied, hand in the air.

So...the bowl of water or the mirror first?

As Adi finished up on his notes, he decided that the mirror would be first. He hadn't much luck the last time with mirror scrying and he was feeling a bit confident about the whole thing today.

"You starting with mirrors, too?'' the Hufflepuff asked Benny as he stood up. Mirrors were at the back of the class, yeah? So that was where this Puffer was going. He hoped he was going to be seeing stuff in the mirror this time around. Divinationary stuff, of course.

Darn Kace spaced out again! He heard the question what does water have to with scrying. He really did have no idea so maybe the spacing out did him a favor. His ears perked up when he heard they were doing an activity now. It is interesting activity to do for the lesson. So now they will have to pick a partner to work with? But he wondered where he wanted to work with first. He decided he wanted to work with the mirrors first since they seemed to be easier and plus he did work with them before.

He began to face the mirror and decided to do it himself and just breathed in and out...in and out...he wanted to do this right. Last time circumstances were tense.

Oh, so she was right about water being used for scrying. Interesting. As Professor Cassie continued talking, Lux wrote down more notes and wondered what other forms of Divination involved water. Maybe it would be discussed in another lesson because before she could ask, it was activity time. Lux was never one to avoid activities so her curiosity would have to be addressed later.

Using two different mediums for scrying sounded both interesting and challenging. She had barely any success with the crystal ball and had done only a little better with the mirror since she still wasn't sure what she had seen with the Queen standing over her shoulder.

Not sure which she wanted to start with, Lux finally settled on the bowl of water because it was something new as well as a bit of a challenge. Heading over to the bowls, she grabbed one before heading back to her table. That was when she heard Kace asking if anyone needed a partner. Too bad she had already gotten her bowl, because he was standing by the mirrors. Oh well. With her wand she filled her bowl with what she figured to be enough water.

Norah grinned at Professor Cassie's snaps. Two right answers?! Unheard of! Picking up her quill, she wrote down the new information on scrying as neatly as she could. Today was a good day, she could feel it. As she listened, she wondered about what other types of divination used water. Maybe when it rained the water spelled stuff out! Or there could be pictures in condensation! That would be awesome. Wiggling a little in her seat, she made a mental note to look for hidden messages next time it rained, which would probably be soon. So much rain around here. Sigh.

Ooh, activity time! Pushing herself up from her pillow, the second year skipped over to a mirror and plopped herself down in front of it. It was totally going to work this time. Totally. She took a deep breath and let her eyelids flutter shut. Time to relaaaxxxx.

Awesome, she was all set to start scrying with the bowl of water. First she wanted a cup of tea, so Lux poured herself some and had a nice sip. Tea always helped her feel relaxed; maybe because it was so warming and soothing. She definitely liked tea more than coffee though she didn't mind coffee. Hot chocolate was the best though.

After taking another sip. Lux put her cup down beside the bowl and closed her eyes. If she was correct in her guess, the technique was the same with the bowl of water as it was with the crystal ball and the mirror. She needed to get into a totally relaxed slate with her mind empty of all thought. Working to clear all the negative energy from her body, she started doing deep breathing

In and out.... In and out...

Eden listened carefully when Morgan spoke. So they had to clear their minds...keep it clear...and merely keep what they were looking for in the background? Gee--that sounded hard! HARD. She merely scribbled it all down in her notes in her own words and smiled at Cinna. Because She liked Cinnamon Roolllllll. One of her favorite lions!

She was also FIERCELY scribbling down everything Professor Morgan said--looking at her parchment only--when Morgan mentioned Snow White Eden's head SNAPPED up--her eyes wide in TERROR--MERLIN'S PANTS--and then when she started laughing Eden clutched her chest. "don't TEASE us like that, Professor--" she said with a soft chuckle, shaking her head slightly at her silliness.

OH.

SHE SAW EDEN. AT THE STABLES. She wondered what in Merlin's name she was doing there--she DID frequent there sometimes--when she had more free time. Hmm. Intereeeesting.

Bowls of water. Eden figured it was the same as a mirror--the reflective thing--yeah. Most people have said that, so, Eden didn't feel the need to respond. Just takin' some notes over hereeee! But soon they were getting a chance to choose either a mirror or water--Eden wanted to try the mirror again! So she'd be doing that one, first, heh. She stood and slipped over to the mirrors, grabbed one, and felt SOOOO relaxed--much more so than last time they dealt with mirrors--and sat back down in her seat, wiggling her bum to get aaaallll comfy.

Okay. Time to START.

Clearing her throat, she stared down at the mirror and closed her eyes, clearing her thoughts completely. It would be hard work. She just had so much on her mind right now-but she had to try at least.

Right then. This... was a lot of information to be getting down, but Toby was trying as hard as he could to write everything down, except the nib of his quill was broken or something and his notes it was getting more and more difficult to write. But he soldiered on, because there wasn't a chance that he might have time to locate a new quill and simultaneously remember all this information.

Once all the notes were written, Toby looked up again and around the room at the other kids, just to see what they were all planning to start the activity with. He'd already decided to go for the bowl of water first, for no real reason.

The Hufflepuff set down his defunct quill and headed up to the front of the room to retrieve one of the bowls. Professor Morgan had said to do this somewhere where the bowls wouldn't be jogged or anything, so Tobias headed way off to the side of the room, near where he'd been sitting, and set the bowl down on the floor. He also pulled over a few pillows, so he could scry in comfort, set them down in a row on the floor, and flopped onto them on his belly, propped up on his arms with his top end obviously up by the bowl.

"Aguamenti," Toby cast, pointing his wand into the bowl and watching as it filled up with water. He cancelled the spell before it got TOO full, and waited for the water to settle and lay still, casually glancing around the room again and then back to the bowl.

Time to get into the zone, Toby closed his eyes and tried to relaaaaaaaaaaaaax.

Continuing to focus on her deep breathing, Lux let her body relax and drove all negative thoughts and feelings from her mind. All the practice that she had with scrying made this easier to do each time. The tea and calming atmosphere of Professor Cassie's classroom also helped.

When she opened her eyes, Lux focused her gaze on a specific spot in the water. She was sure there was something there, but it was moving slightly in the water and when she tried to get a better look it poofed. No surprise there since the same thing happened with the crystal ball. She honestly wasn't sure why she kept trying to see the objects more clearly other than it was a force of habit. Oh well, not like it was expected they would have success on their first attempt. Time for her to move on with the activity and try with the mirror.

This should be easier since she had actually seen something the last lesson.

Sooooooo, they were scrying today. What was the point in bringing their things and putting them in the basket with the kneazle then? Unless this wasn't all they were doing this lesson. Which was possible, since it sounded like Professor Cassie had been affected by that accursed book last lesson. In which case, she had Heather's full sympathy because that stupid thing was NO JOKE.

Anyway, she took a bowl and filled it to a couple inches from the top. Staring into bowl full of water, she tried to clear her mind. Which was hard, because her mind and eyes kept wondering to the basket of precious things and the cat on top. 'Come on Xanthopoulos, focus!' She tried focusing on the water again and clearing her mind.....

Zhenya was pleased that she was, so far, getting lots of snaps in Professor Cassie's class. That was always good. Perhaps she would do better at Divination than her previous terms and pass her exams. That would be GOOD!

She wasn't sure which to start with. She tried to keep an open mind as she decided, and concluded that the mirror might be best for her to try. Why not?

She got up and walked to the back of the room where the mirrors were and chose one, then took it back to her seat. She propped it up near her and fiddled with it a little bit until it was reflecting the wall and nothing else. Now she just had to pry open her inner eye...

Did they really have to start the scrying stuff so soon? Zander would have much rather spent the class pretending to know the answers to all of Professor Morgan's questions. 'Cause at least then he could pretend like he knew this stuff, but when it came to actually doing the activity... Well then he was kind of hopeless. Giving Kevin a look along the lines of 'ugh', Zander decided to try the mirror out first.

Even though he wouldn't be able to see anything in either object... The bowl sounded a lot harder to use. So mirror it was. Plus, he had already gotten a lot of practice staring at an empty mirror last time they did this. So it just seemed like the right fit.

Also, when would they get their things back? Because only having one sock on was starting to feel kind of weeeeeird.

Zhenya crossed her legs and looked into the mirror, still only seeing the reflection from the wall. Good. Now, what was Professor Cassie doing? Right… connect with it? Clear the mind with nothing clouding the inner eye from awakening.
Oh, but she was hungry.

She told her stomach to shush, and she closed her eyes, taking a few deep breaths just like Professor Cassie did. So far so good right? Would she see things in the mirror if she opened her eyes? She slowly opened one eye and peeked at the mirror… nothin'. Okay… she closed her eyes again and took some more deep breaths, clearing her mind as best she could. She pictured an extra eye, inside, and it was closed. She worked around it mentally, trying to open it… would it open for her?

Picking up her cup, Lux finished off her tea in one sip before vanishing the water from her bowl. Placing it back with the other bowls, she then poured herself another cup of tea. Professor Cassie never said there was a limit and there was plenty for everyone. Happily she had another sip before putting the cup down on the table again.

Time for her to work some magic with a mirror. Fortunately there were enough available so she could easily select one that was near her table. Staring into the glass, she saw her reflection. Ooooh, she was looking really pretty. Bay sure was a lucky boy. Haha. Smiling to herself, she brushed a strand of hair behind her ear.

It appeared as though her inner eye was, in fact, opening. She was now relaxed, her mind empty of thoughts, and her inner eye open. Her eyes gently opened, without her needing to open them herself. She looked down towards the mirror slowly and thought she could see some clouds. Were they clouds? No, it didn't look like clouds. Her inner eye opened some more, it appeared. It was… just… mirror.

Or was it?

Her head tilted ever so slightly towards the left as she continued staring, unblinkingly, into the mirror. She felt her legs lift her up slightly so she could get a better look of the mirror. What was it in there?

It was ice.

Zhenya felt a tear trickle down her face. There was a figure looming near the ice. She couldn't make it out, but it was darker than the ice. It wasn't a light grey blue. It was winter. Middle of winter. An iced over lake. And there was another figure on the ice. It was her, Zhenya. Was she on the ice or… in the ice…

GASP!. Zhenya's little body flung backwards and she landed on the pillows behind her. She was hyperventilating slightly. Did that ACTUALLY just happen? She clutched at her chest with her frostbitten gloved hand. Was it a memory? No, it couldn't have been. That wasn't her memory of it. That was the perspective of the bad event by… her inner eye?

Uh huh..................... they were doing BOTH. Mirror AND bowl. That was excessive was it not? Couldn't he just sit and focus on ONE? Cause he was bound to fail at it all. Seeing things was hard, partly because switching his mind off was difficult.

But ooohhh wellll........

Zeke rose from his spot on the cushion, and approached one of the mirrors. He'd work with this one first, seeing as he had a LITTLE experience doing so from before.

Trying his best to clear his head, Zeke positioned himself slightly to the side of the mirror so that all he could see in its reflection was the back wall.. and so the waiting to see began!

Activity now!

She'd been wondering when she'd get to that as her feet were starting to cramp up on her cushion but she hadn't asked because she didn't want to interrupt. Nope. Perfect manners and a lot of smiling because compliments were happening and the Gryffindor had never been on to turn those down. Lex was acutely aware of the fact Felix wouldn't stop staring at her but she couldn't figure why. Had something happened that she wasn't aware of?

Dismissing the thought, she hopped up to get herself a bowl then drew Airey's wand and cast an "Aguamenti." to get it filled. Not too much so that none of it would spill then placed it on the ground by her own cushion. Unless an earthquake happened, this was the sturdiest surface she could think of.

Cleeearing her mind would be next on the agenda. What was it? Deep breathes? Closed eyes? Or was that something completely different??? Alex twisted slightly so she could have a better look at the rest of the class and what they were doing.

Breathing?

He focused for a bit on his breathing thing again, hoping that somehow it would help his brain disconnect from his eyes and let him actually SEEEE things in the mirror thing.

PLEASE?!

He really wanted to actually see something. Like ACTUALLY see something.

Inhaling... exhaling... inhaling... exhaling, Zeke's mind slowly, VERY slowly started to wander, only, he wasn't conscious of it. He was so lost in the action of breathing that his mind for a short while was a blank canvas. Blank enough for some fogging to be noticed in the mirror - by his inner eye of course. However, his mind was not clear for long enough before it returned to a more conscious and aware state, and any fog and image he might have seen was lost.

Adi selected a mirror. What was it that Professor Cassie had said? Clear the mind, open the inner eye and stand off the side of the mirror? Okay, Adi could do that. His mind was clear for the most part. How does one open the inner eye, though?

Maybe it meant just go with an open mind? Anyway, was now adjusting the mirror trying to make the wall alone show. A little more...some more...annnnd perfect! The Hufflepuff fixed himself at the mirror's side.

His mind was still clear and calm. He took a few deep breaths as he had done so many times before before attempting at scrying. Adi tilted his head as he gazed into the mirror.

Jasmine had listened as Professor Cassie and her classmates spoke. She had taken very thorough notes during the discussion. Now it was time to get started with the activity. Which one would she try first? After thinking about her choices for a moment, Jasmine decided to start with the dreaded mirror. Best to get that one over with and then try something new.

Jasmine went over to a mirror and got to work. By now she knew the drill and was ready to try clearing her mind. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath and let it out slowly. Then she continued to take a few more cleansing breaths. Jasmine concentrated on letting the many thoughts in her head leave with each exhalation. It seemed that she was getting a little better at this. While her mind wasn't completely empty, it was about as close as she thought she could get.

Remembering what Professor Cassie said, Jasmine tried to stand to the side of the mirror. Then she positioned the mirror so the wall was showing. Now it was time to give scrying a try.
