School had just begun and you already have found yourself coming to your first Divination class. Professor Cassie wants you comfortable so she hopes you read the notice and have worn your most comfy pajamas, she certainly has.
As you come up the Divination ladder the first thing you might notice is the change in decoration. This term the classroom is decorated in dark reds instead of reds and pinks. It's not as bright and has a more relaxing tone. The tables have been lowered and the chairs are now missing. In their place there are comfy pillows to sit on. On each table there are two freshly cleaned crystal balls ready to be used.
You'll notice the smell of lavender filling the room as well as quiet and calming music playing lightly in the background. There is plenty of tea for anyone who would like some and parchment at each table. Professor Cassie is sitting in a chair calm and relaxed sipping her peppermint tea and smiling to greet you.
On the board like in the past there is a note:
Quote:
Welcome please find a seat and take some tea. Please stay quiet for the beginning of class and just relax. Before we start please write something you are proud of and place it in the snap cup at the front of the room. Please do not touch the crystal balls until I tell you.
Doesn't the entire room just make you want to curl up and take a nap?
OOC: I've opened class a bit early, but will not officially start until tomorrow. I'm hoping to start it before I go to work, but if not it will be afternoon EST. Please make sure you familiarize yourself with SS and classroom rules.

The fact her ball wasn't working, the music was so soothing and the place so dimly lit were not doing the Gryffindor any favours. Surely there was only one thing to do but she imagined it would be extremely bad form for the Head Girl to fall asleep in the middle of a lesson; no matter how comfy she felt in her pajamas.
She could feel her eyelids dipping on the odd occasion but for the most part she was resolved to stay awake. It was the least she could do in a world where courtesies were everything.
Perhaps she would just focus on clearing her mind. Thinking about absolutely nothing. That might do the trick. Merlin knew nothing else was. The only problem came with the fact that the less she thought was the more she felt herself drifting....off to sleep. It didn't take a fancy pants Diviner to know this wasn't what the Professor had meant when she gave her instructions so Lex sat a little straighter, shifting some on her cushion (which wasn't helping either).
Her mind was clear but then visions of little candy canes and chocolate frogs danced in her head.
Must. Not. Sleep.

Oh yeah. Adi was acing this. His mind was clear and now he was gazing patiently into the Ball, awaiting images. Come out, come out from wherever you are, images! Huh? What was that? Who was talking that loud about his best friend? His eyes widened slightly. He was shocked to hear Angel saying THAT aloud for a second but now he just wanted to laugh. He hurriedly covered his mouth as he shook with silent laughter. What did Professor Cassie have to say about that statement that came from Angel? But now he shot a glance at Benny. Surly he had heard Angel's outburst.
That's when Adi's eyes yet again fell on AJ. Um..............WHAT was wrong with the love of his life? She looked all funny. He eyed her. Wait. Was she day dreaming? Adi leaned forward, trying to get a proper look at her which was kind of difficult because she was facing away from him. But he could see her profile a bit though it was blocked by her arm. Was that...drool? O_O What was wrong with her and Angel? He was quite threatened to laugh aloud. But AJ seemed to have gathered herself from whatever her day dream was for she wiped herself clean.
Shaking his head, Adi took a sip of his tea. Best clear his head again. First step: Close the eyes. Second step: Breatheeee!

This was just stupid.
Layla honestly didn’t understand why this was a class nor why exactly she was here. Maybe it was because it was the first class of the term and it reflected well upon her or maybe it was because she wanted a good idea what the general lesson layout was. But this had not put her in good stead for the rest of the term. This reading ball rubbish sounded like complete and utter nonsense.
But she was going to give it a go because she’d look stupid if she just point blank refused in front of the entire class. Besides, everyone else were giving it a shot. Perhaps she could just ‘pretend’ to see her future in the crystal ball, do all those fancy wafty hand movements that fortune tellers did. And the munchkin of a professor with her snapping and her excited claps was just doing nothing for the already bored fifteen-year-old.
Were there no teaching standards at this school?
Everyone seemed to be engaged in staring into their crystal balls and Layla let out an exasperated sigh as she leaned forward and half-heartedly stared into the ball, allowing her ‘mind to open up and push all negativity away’ or whatever it was supposed to be.

Without knowing when or how, Lex's head began to droop.Very subtly but then all at once. The music around her drifted to a hum and the lights were non-existent. Vaguely she was aware of the ball she was meant to be reading things from but it was like the ball had vanished and as it had it, she wasn't in the Divination Classroom anymore.
How curious.
Wasn't like she was in a new room either, just a dark space with the scent of sugar filled treats off in the background. If only she could find them--if only she could find anything. Even now it didn't occur to her she'd slipped off to sleep so she tried making sense of it, of all this. Was the music changing? Lex was almost sure it was, to something a little more upbeat. Lights were getting brighter and she could only take this to mean she wasn't in Divination anymore.
Wow.
Her upper body drooped forward until she was leaned against the table and the only sound to be heard was the faintest of 'zZZzzzZzzzzZzz's.

Trying. Trying to focus. By focus that clearly meant 'putting on the act'. Devlin squinted at his crystal ball, leaned slightly forward so that his nose was nearly touching it, in some attempt of hoping that this would improve his concentration and letting all thoughts of his mind free.
Well you know what happened.... NOTHING.
Sigh.
Wasn't there anything he could do to make this so called 'mist' appear? He highly doubted it. But, if this is how the rest of the class was going to continue, which Devlin's opinions were still so so, he may just walk out.
Mist, come out, don't be afraid. Devlin kinda needed to see you. So, if it could just be a pal and do its job, that'd be much appreciated.
Students were eager to answer and this just made Cassie all that more excited. She bounced a bit as she moved around the room. Wait, calm Cassiopeia calm. She took a few deep breaths and proceeded to listen to all the wonderful answers.
SPOILER!!: All you lovely people
She beamed at the child, it was a good guess and some might do that for show. “Some have done that for show, many muggle fortune tellers will for the dramatic effect. It is not needed of course, but that is a really great guess. Great job!”
Seeing a hand she turned and pointed towards the boy, “Yes if you are searching for a specific thing you will possibly think about that, but Scrying can be a bit more difficult than that. Your mind really needs to be clear of all things.” It is a blurred line she knew, but she hoped they could understand a little better throughout the term.
That was an interesting answer and the girl got encouraging snaps. “That’s how you could clean it yes, but it’s easier to use your wand. It is not how we do crystal-gazing though.” Then the girl said more and she gave a little bounce in her step. “Very good! Yes clearing your mind is the best step of course!”
“This is something that is done regularly and our own Mr. Cutty had just cleaned the Crystal Balls before class.” She gave the boy a smile. “Keeping them cleansed keeps the ball working properly.” She gave the girl an encouraging grin. Basic Crystal Ball care was super important. The smudge stick though she gave her a smile and nodded, “Yes I have heard those things as well. In your books you will find a section on myths and facts about Crystal Balls. The smudge stick is one that is debated though the ages.” Good to know she knew her background information though.
Eeeep! The observant one, Cassie snapped happily. “Ah-mazing eyes Ethan! Yes we have to be relaxed. That is a huge step to being able to Crystal-gaze. I have made the room very calming and relaxing just for today’s lesson.” She looked around the darker room. She wasn’t on for such dark colors, but it was needed.
Another great answer from the Hufflepuff prefect! “Yes great job Adi, we do have to be very relaxed and I hope that you are all comfortable and becoming more relaxed as we are moving along today.” She checked her time, because she didn’t want to all of the sudden be short on time, there was too much fun to be had.
“Yes, wonderful! Distraction will never help you see anything and it will shut your inner eye very quickly. So clearing your mind is a great task. It is a task though so today we will be practicing that.” She knew how hard it was.
Her ball cleaner was answering now and she nodded in his direction. [b] “Lighting is very important. If it is too bright one will never be able to find their inner eye and see things in the Crystal ball, but too dark and you aren’t going to be able to see anything. So we will be getting to the lighting very very soon. Of course right now it is too bright as you can see your own reflections.
Giving the girl an approving smile she nodded, “Yes, basic care like I’ve said before is very important, but since that has been just done for us we can just skip over that today.” It wasn’t really for the actual scrying but it was certainly important.
Aj certainly got a giggle at of Professor Cassie, “One might think so, because we are doing just that, but you don’t have to be in your pajamas and you don’t have to drink tea. These are just some of my favorite ways to get relaxed and feel connected to my crystal ball. It’s always good to use the same Crystal Ball, but since it is a class it’s a bit harder.” If she could give them all their own she would really.
Awww poor student. Cassie gave her a very encouraging smile and moved a little closer her way, but then moved a bit more quickly as she tapped on the Crystal Ball. “Oh dear no napping on it. Please.” Still being very sweet and calm, but no, please no tapping. “Wouldn’t it be just wonderful if we could do that? It’s a great guess, it truly is, but the ball isn’t the only part that has to wake up. Your inner eye and focus need to be all connected together.” So the three must work in sync or it would never do to just have one and not the other.
Another fabtastic answer! These kids were just sooooo smart! Eeeeep! “Yes, very good! Opening your mind is the biggest thing that needs to be done. You have to believe in yourself, if you don’t believe in yourself what’s the point of doing anything!” Hence why she was so big on her snap cup and showing each other support! It was all about the confidence. She gave Toby snaps, because this one just understood what was really going on!
Snaps for Lux! “Yes, exactly right. Clearing your mind of distractions is the very first step to getting closer to opening the inner eye.” What wonderful answers all of them.
The answers just kept coming and she was thrilled to be hearing them. “Very good Connor, we do have to look past ourselves and look into something deeper.” Some could not do this and that proved they just lacked the gift, but these students. OHMYGOSH her students were so bright listen to them all with their answers. She just knew they would do wonder. Well most of them at least. *eyes you Miss Cambridge*
Wait, what did Zander say? No, she knew he was closer to the gift than answering like that, but she kept her encouraging smile. “Goodness Zander that is a very interesting answer, but I would hope that nothing in my profession meant that I had to think something sad. I really do not like to think sad. Positive, happy thoughts are the best in my book. Though for scrying no thoughts at all are best.” More encouraging snaps. “Great guess though. Thank you soo much for trying.” Just trying was a wonderful thing.
This one was very observant and knowledgeable. “Wonderful answer dear. You are exactly right. The external is calming to help the internal relax and focus on nothing to see what the inner eye wants you to see.” It was all soooo exciting wasn’t it?
She nodded a bit and for some reason felt the need to break out in song, you know, Free your mind and the rest will follow, be color blind don’t be so shallow, with his comment of free your mind. Possibly humming it for a moment as she nodded before answering. “Very good. Freeing your mind is a wonderful and difficult task.” They would learn though, she knew they would.
She listened to Grayson speak and nodded as he did. She had never heard Divination compared to potions, but that was very smart of him. “Very good Grayson I agree with you one hundred percent and basic ball care is to keep it clean and smudge free.”
She looked towards the Hufflepuff prefect and smiled, giving her some snaps. “Yes very good. An open mind is just so important and we don’t want to only see our reflections. Some of us might really enjoy just looking at our own faces, I know I don’t mind fluffing my hair in a mirror once in awhile, but we need to see further than that today.” She half chuckled at her own little joke. The girls would most likely get it more than the boys.
“OHMYGOSH!!! That’s so AH-MAZING. They will be here towards the end of the lesson to bring us a little snack. You have some gifts of your own.” She certainly remembered this lion from the last class and she couldn’t help but chuckle. “Scrying is hard work, it’s a harder form of Divination and to reground yourself after being in that open mind a snack is always good, but for now no food around the Crystal Balls.”
“Focusing on what you see is just a little part of it, because if you focus too much on one thing you might miss the rest, but that is an awesome answer! Thank you sooo much for saying it.” She loved all the answers she had been given.
Polishing really well, that was an answer and Cassie let it sit in her thoughts for just a moment, “That is important, but just not for this lesson today. Though when you do polish it Crystal Balls have a very special cloth that is used to polish them and a certain way to do it just right.”
Now looking back at the class she was just overwhelmed by all their wonderful answers and the ones that were still just sitting quiet got encouraging smiles. They could be quiet that was fine. They were probably just getting into their relaxed state. Yes, it was going to be a great lesson she could just feel it. “Now as I have said, basic ball care is very important. Crystal Balls are very sensitive and usually the reader will only use one ball. Never changing, because you have to make a connection with the Crystal Ball, but unfortunately with it being school and class you can’t have your very own. Though for the rest of the term you will have this particular one in front of you. When you are finished there is a special bag that each go in. Your name will be stuck to the bag so that you can get it when needed.” They might need it a few times throughout the term, so just some needed information.
“Now moving on, we are going to start the art of Scrying today. Please do not get frustrated if by the end of class you haven’t gotten anything. Your mind is a hard tool to clear and that will be your first obstacle. Depending on what all of you have on your minds some things fight to stay there, while others have doubts about this that will make it harder for them to open their minds and awaken their inner eyes.” She may have glanced around to a few students that she was sure didn’t hold the gift.
Pausing for a moment with a blank stare and then a pained expression. Finally sighing, “Seems you’ll be having pork tomorrow for dinner. Oh and Connor Smaug is on his way towards class. He seems to be going to try to get into a bit of trouble. You’ll be able to find him in the Room a Serenity once class is over.” The downside and upside of her gifts. Now anyway, back to the lesson. “So like I’ve said the Crystal Balls have just been recently cleaned, so we do not have to worry about that part. So our next step is to just relax. Open our minds. I’ve had the calming music and the relaxing scent to start, the tea always helps as well. Now it’s your turns to try and turn off your brains. Close your eyes, do some deep breathing and just push all other thoughts away.”
Going back to her chair she sat down and rolled her shoulders. Flicking her wand she made the lights go down really dim. “Now the lighting is right, but we won’t be starting just yet. We have to work on our focus and thoughts. So I want everyone just to stay quiet and really get into focus.” She closed her own eyes just for a moment to relax. Opening them back up and get up to walk around and monitor her students. Help them if needed.
"I'm so sorry Professor!" she said quickly, withdrawing her hand back from the crystal ball. Right. She didn't want to break it or...spoil the spirits and whatever the heck was going on. She honestly had no clue. This class was...relaxing but...very shady, hmmph.
Time to be quiet and relax? Did she want Eden to fall asleep? For real? But then she mentioned Smaug to CONNNOR---and Eden chuckled and laughed. His cat was so sassy. Way more sassy than Roddy or Daisy would ever be to Eden. HMPH. She waved at Connor, since she hadn't already, and winked his way before breaking into giggles and then trying to FOCUS. Apparently.

Bianca didn't know if she was supposed to whisper to ED about her attire or anything. However, she was sure that later on she would definitely ask ED where the pajamas were... then dress her up in something super comfy. Because if they had the chance to wear pajamas to class, why was ED denying herself that right?!
The art of Scrying. That sounded so... lame yet awesome at the same time. Lamesome. That was the word she was looking for. Plus what was the professor even saying about pork and Connor Smaug?
Who was Connor Smaug? Was that the name of the pig they would be eating for dinner? Had she named their dinner. Wow this class was strange. Bianca loved it. But Bianca really wanted to touch the crystal ball. Just poke it with her wand or tail or something. Her tail was still in her hand as she brushed it against her chin. She did not want to let o of the plushiness.
Stay quiet and get into focus.
Pffft. Bianca could do that.
She took in a deeeeeeeeep breath trying to relax and smell the roses. Or the lavender in this case. Apparently the tea would help too. She was not going to drink the tea though. Bianca could hear herself breathing as well as various classmates. How was that supposed to even be helpful?! "Foooooocusssss," Bianca muttered to herself. She crossed her legs like she was meditating. How was she supposed to do so many things like focusing thoughts and being quiet? Bianca liked voicing her thoughts.
Like the one telling her to shut up right now. "No Vicky, you be quiet."
She had named that voice Vicky. Anyways. Quiet and focus... chiiiiiiilllllllll.... yawn.

o__o Was she a mind reader??? It doesn't matter though because waving was not asking and he still would not get up. He just uncomfortably sent a small wave her way, quickly turning back to the teacher. Shifty eyes.
Anywho, he stared at his own reflection in the crystal ball in front of him, while the professor talked. Sure, there was just a simple reflection of his beautiful self in there, but Dec conjured something up with that right there. Looking at your own reflection, you're looking at your past, present, and future. That's what makes you, you, right?? DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP. But, no. That's not the point apparently. The professor was now having them close their eyes and relax, clearing their brains of stuff.
Dec closed his eyes, shaking his body a bit to relax. Clear the mind, clear the mind, clear the..., clear...the...miii... He felt his head getting heavy and jerked awake when the rest of his body started to follow. HE WAS FALLING ASLEEP. *blink, blink, blink* This was going to be harder than he thought.
Eden siiiiighed at Biance and shot her look as if to say, 'I'll explain after class, OKAY?' and just..tried to clear her mind and whatnot. It sounded like something you'd do before yoga..or meditation..maybe crystal balling was like...meditation. Hm. It was a thought. She took a deeeeeeep breath in--saw Declan staring at her like she was crazy-------and she lost focus.
Right. He probably didn't know her. She would have to explain to HIM after class, as WELL, who she was. 'Hey, hi, I'm Rorie's best friend ever, I've seen pictures of you--' yeah, Eden, not creepy at ALL. The brunette just flushed and looked down again. Right. right right right right....
GET YO' MIND CLEARED, MCGEE.

Yes, Cassie was most certain she probably didn't have the talents, but that wasn't going to make her discourage Alexa from trying. She knew she had to be even just a little interested to keep coming back. So she gave an encouraging smile and took some example deep breaths.
Keeping the room still calm she started to speak in a calm, quiet, tone. "Very good everyone, this is one of the most difficult parts of scrying. Training the mind to open up and let go of all distractions." Even after years of doing it sometimes she just had to walk away without success. "At this time all negative energy should be pushed from your body. As you clear your mind only pick up the positive around the room." She kept her room filled with positive, happy vibes, so this should not be hard, but she knew some still continued to doubt, she could tell by posture and eyes watching.
"You could start feeling weak, dizzy, or just off. This is just your mind letting go and moving into your inner eye waking. As we start the readings, do not think of anything, let the balls talk to you. Open your eyes and let them decide the point that you will look into the Crystal Ball. Where do you feel most drawn to the ball? This is where you should look." Still walking around and glancing at the students. "There will be no note taking through this. You do not want to break the connection, so just let things happen as they are suppose to. Your Crystal Ball will start darkening or mist swirling, do not let this bring you back to your conscious state. If it does just start the opening and clearing of the mind process over."
Now for the exciting part! They were going to start readings! YAY! "While youR looking into the crystal ball images will start to appear, try not to focus too much on one, it could break the connection and have you come back to conscious state before seeing everything. Again if you see nothing, do not get discouraged, it can take a few attempts before you can fully wake your inner eye. Just keep going back to this first step and trying again." Even herself, with a family full of seers and Divination experts, had to try many many times before fully getting Scrying.
"Take a few more deep breaths and once you feel like you are ready and your inner eye is awake, please begin your first attempts at Scrying." Giving soft encouraging snaps, she continued to walk around monitoring the class.
OOC: You are all awesome! This part of the activity is to have your charrie try to get into the reading state and looking into the ball for images. If they can not that is totally fine, if they do great too!! Think about it realistically for you own charrie! For this part a minimum of five posts for reading attempts, or actual images found. You will have until Saturday evening EST. If you need her just say in the post. Of course the most important thing have fun!!
OKAY. So they got to try to DO stuff now. YAY. She took a deep breath and kind of did the whole...muggle-movie image of a psychic and put her hands around the ball--not TOUCHING it--it was probably SENSITIVE--and she just...relaxed and stared very hard into that crystal ball.
Maybe she even glared at it. Ugh. She hadn't touched her tea yet because she just didn't think it would do anything for her focus. She stared so hard at the ball she thought she was going to pop a blood vessel or something--she blinked suddenly, rapidly, and SIGHED.
The ball was still clear. She glanced over at Layla.

Nope. This wasn’t happening.
Her ball was just as clear. "Are you have trouble, too?" she asked, wide eyes, at Layla. Are all the classes at Hogwarts like this? ugh. She bit her lip and stared back at her own ball. She leaned in, getting REAL close to it, nose mere CENTIMETERS away, and she squinted at it...
Nothin'.
She SIGHED again. Was there too much negativity in her? Probably. Eden was a very moody person, typically. She ran her hands through her hair and tried again--swirl--please--smoke--something show up IN the crystal ball--PLEASE?

Nothing was happening.
Benny was having no luck, the crystal globe that had his attention was blank. Nothing like pictures or symbols or anything at all was visible in its glassy surface. He had to bite back a sigh, reminding himself that it wasn't like he had any skill in the art of divination. And the professor hadn't even said that all of them would be able to see anything anyway.
Taking a deep breath, he continued to at least try and clear his mind. Nothing else needed to happen for now. First things first of course. However the sound of his name from a familiar female voice cut through his thoughts and focus, distracting his efforts. There was no doubt to whom she was referring to because he wasn't really aware of any other Benjamin in the school much lest someone else referred to as Benny. Not to mention this was Angel talking. And when he registered the gist of what she was saying, the fourth year lion proceeded to turn as red as she in reaction.
Could he crawl under the table now?
Curl up with a nice pillow and wait until class was over and everyone was gone?
…. She heard it, she heard the boo and her green eyes snapped towards the boy in question. Trying to just ignore it, because everyone’s allowed their freedom of expression even you Mr. Rude, until he didn’t stop talking. Her beaming smile never left her as she moved closer to the two and took a seat at their table. She looked between them and listened with bright eyes. “This is just always sooo exciting to watch new love start.” She gave them snaps of encouragement. Yes, go on you are interrupting everyone in the room, she watched and waited. “Now that she has very much told you she isn’t interested do you think I can get back to my lesson now?” Getting back up she patted him on the shoulder and looked at the rest of the class. “Now that we have that wonderful moment of young love settled does anyone else have anything to add about Crystal Balls?”
The Professor’s words had made Justine gag. Young love? Young Love? Between herself and Hale? UGHIHILUHEIU. No. No. No. No. NO. Professor Elle Woods had it all wrong; there wasn’t any sort of the love going on between Justine and Ian – save on his side- in fact it was rather the opposite.
And then the Professor Cassie told Ian off in a rather nicer way than Justine would have were it her class, before cheerfully going off with her lesson.
If Justine sat there and thought about how the injustice of Ian getting off so easily, she would have ended up probably suffocating the git with one of these fluffy pillows, instead, she made the healthy decision to stare intensely into the crystal ball before her.
……
Five minutes later she was still seeing absolutely nothing, the crystal was as clear as spring water. Pouting with annoyance, Justine laid back into her seat, trying to think what it might be that she’d done wrong and if it was worth her time to even keep trying…. Not like she’d need Divination when she was off acting in some big movie…

UGGGHHH...how can he do this without falling asleep?! Was the point to fall asleep? Will the inner eye take over from there??? HMMM???
He yawned really big and then shook himself up, feeling slightly more awake. Placing his elbows on the table, he plopped his chin in his palms, staring blankly at the crystal ball. His mind was pretty much clear. Like 90%, so it should work right?
*blink, blink, blink*
Nope. He closed his eyes again to sweep the last bit out of his brain.

This is difficult.
Really…really difficult.
With eyes closed, he tried his best to shut off all of his senses, except for his brain. He imagined it to be just relaxing up inside his skull…ready to see…a mist at least on his crystal ball. He opened his eyes slooooowly, and…still…NOTHING.
Ethan blinked once, then twice, trying his best not to poke the thing. How come it wasn’t doing anything??! The boy made a disgruntled face, and retrieved his notes from his table. There must be something in his parchment that could help him.
…
….
Oh. Oooooooooooh. The blond boy nodded in understanding, seeing that he found a clue as to HOW that thing should work. Merlin’s beard. If he got this right next, he’d have to smack himself for letting a clue stare at him long enough in the face. Taking in a deep breath, Ethan closed his eyes once more, willing himself to connect with the crystal ball.

Who was talking? They were supposed to be relaxing here. The voice was familiar and as soon she heard the words there was no denying that it was her sister. Without any shame, AJ turned in her seat to make eye contact with her sister. She mouthed "We can hear you." Then her eyes found Benny's which wasn't that hard since he was sitting right next to her. He was red. No he was REALLY red. He had to be dying inside. Poor Benny was always being embarrassed by somebody in their group. She clapped him on the shoulder... which probably didn't help anything at all. Without meaning to AJ's eyes then found Adi. If only he knew what had just went on in her mind. This was not going to help her in the concentration department. The lion stared at him for a minute, and then turned back around without any emotion.
Apparently the tea was tainted because AJ wasn't the only one having weird things happen to her. Was this the professor's idea of a joke? Instead of relaxing AJ just stared at her crystal ball. She stared at it for so long that it started looking misty. "I did it." She blinked a few times. Nope, she didn't do it. It wasn't the crystal ball that was misty, it was her eyes. Her eyes were glazing over. How disappointing.

Still with eyes closed, Ethan cleared his mind by forgetting where he is. He imagined himself alone inside a room with his crystal ball. The boy imagined it to be talking to him…or rather, making a connection with him and vice versa. Given that the boy could get lost in his imagination, he saw the sphere sprouting some hair…eyes…nose…and ears. Without warning, however, he imagined it to have a face of a…yeti.
WHAT.
Well, at least it looked…funny, and not just boring. Maybe he should name his crystal ball Zelda? After the yeti that he took as a role last term? “Hello, Zelda.” Again, without warning, Ethan opened his eyes and saw…a white mist the size of a knut, then it disappeared. The boy blinked, wondering if he was just imagining it. Not sure if his technique worked or not, Ethan looked around for Professor Cassie. She saw the woman walking around, and since everyone’s supposed to be quiet and such, he raised his hand to get her attention.

OKAY so this wasn't going as planned. Eden thought she'd be seeing her future husband already----No? Okay, maybe not REALLY. but wouldn't that be so nice? Hehe. She wouldn't have to waste any...time on boys. And all of her confusion would be no more! And she would be happy.
It seemed like the head girl(Eden didn't know the girl's name) had fallen asleep--that looked very nice--but she looked back at her crystal ball. She had promised her Mam and her Uncle that she would TRY here and do WELL here. It was more like her uncle telling her she'd do well or else--but that was besides the point. She stared into the ball...and she focused...no thoughts of her mean Howell side...of her...boy confusion...she had to empty her mind. EMPTY her mind.
Soon enough, she was staring blankly at the crystal ball, in a trance. But the ball wasn't...cloudy or anything. She was just...there...

Jasmine continued to stare at the crystal ball and nothing happened. Maybe she was trying too hard. Sometimes you just had to relax and go with the flow. Giving her shoulders another roll, Jasmine stared at a point in the center of the ball. This time she decided to touch it, hoping to create a better connection.
Jasmine felt like she might have sniffed just a little too much lavender fragrance because now she was starting to see things. Not things inside the crystal ball, but fuzzy images of her own creation. So much for going with the flow. That was her third strike and Jasmine was trying to keep hope alive. Was she ever going to see anything inside the crystal ball?

Dec opened his eyes slowly, but remained in a stiff position. His mind felt cleared and was very, very scared that if he made any sudden movement, he would lose the clearness.
He carefully and slowly scooted closer to the table. So far, so good. Craning his neck closer to the ball, he peered in. BY MERLIN, LOOK! There was nothing -_- Big surprise. Wasn't it suppose to work now? He mind was cleared, he was relaxed. The thing was suppose to connect to his inner eye. So....CONNECT!
Norah continued staring at the crystal ball, concentrating on the flow of air in and out of her nostrils. Oh hey. She was finally becoming relaxed...maybe a little too relaxed, she thought as she felt her eyelids growing heavy. Uhh. Was this supposed to happen? Forcing her eyelids open, she tried to direct her focus back on the orb. It looked kind of...misty. Wait. Was it working? IT WAS WORKING! SHE WAS SEEING MIST! SHE WAS SE- oh. That was her eyes being blurry. DARN.
Ooooooh they were doing so well!! EEEP!! Look at all her fab students trying to clear their minds. Well almost all of them. Giving glances to a certain head girl.
Leo wasn't skeptical. There was no way that he could be, given that his grandparents were gypsies and his mother still had those views. In fact she had her own psychic that she always went to.
So at least that was one thing that he didn't have to worry about.
Some of the others he figured might have to get over their skepticism before they'd get anywhere.
However he was in fact having difficulties clearing his blinking. Closing them for a moment he sat himself back imaging the ball in his mind and focussing on that, but the moment that he actually opened his eyes he could focus at all.

Dec was probably staring blankly at this ball for about 5 minutes with nothing, but the reflection of himself and bits of people who were moving around beside him.
SIIIIIIIIIIIIGHHHH.
Resting his chin in his palm, he squinted at the ball. Work or whatever. That seemed to do something or he didn't really know, but there was this foggy mist thing forming in it. He looked up and around. No mist thing to make the reflection on it, so it's definitely in there. Declan squinted harder at him, hoping it would help it form. No, it wasn't changing in any way. Was the signal bad? Should he change the channel? He looked around the ball. Where were the buttons on this thing???
Managing to regain his focus, Leo returned at staring at the ball, this time just looking at it and trying to focus on it alone, though he still could only see his reflection.
And what was his hair doing today?
It was horrible!
Truly horrible!
Curls going everywhere and sticking out in odd places.
Wait nope, that's counter productive Leo, so very counterproductive he told himself shaking his head.
And nothing was happening. He was seeing nothing other than the crystal ball, shadows and everything in front of him, and EVEN to the side of him. It seemed as though his peripherals wanted to be active today. Boo.
Inhaling and exhaling again, Zeke continued to focus, attempting to locate his INNER EYE. He was looking for it, searching for it. All of this mind clearing business wasn't all for nothing. Eventually though, he just felt SLEEPY, and he couldn't sit up right any longer.
Zeke folded his hands on the table in front of him and rest his chin on top - leaning awkwardly into the table. It was as good as laying his head down and still looking at the stupid orb thing he was going to get. Frustration nagged at him.
All of this unfocused focusing was giving Thornton a headache, without much else to show for it.
Closing his eyes, he lifted his hands to his temples. Rubbing in small circles, he took a deep breath and tried to keep his mind off the discomfort in his head and lower back. He could do this. He could. Or at least that's what he kept telling himself.
Did anyone in his family have this particular skill, he wondered, as he opened his eyes. Deep breath in, deep breath out. He resolved to write home to enquire whether perhaps Grandmother always new exactly what he wanted because she was a Seer. Or just a grandmother.
Gazing, once more, into the crystal ball, Thornton found himself slipping into a clear focus much more easily. As he considered the crystal ball, he found his eyes focusing not on it's surface, but on it's center.
A center that was growing cloudy, swirly. This was it! He was going to see something!
But as soon as his excitement rose, his focus disappeared, and with it the haze. Exhaling sharply, and audibly, Thornton slumped, elbow on the table and head in hand.
He kept staring into the crystal ball. Just staring. And a bit more staring.
It felt like he'd been staring at the ball for hours and hours and hours, and nothing was happening. She did say that this could take a while but he hadn't expected a while to be this... maybe he just wouldn't have the 'inner eye' that she was talking about.
That was a thing wasn't it?
He sighed, stretching his arms in an attempt not to fall asleep before staring at the ball again.

This was absolutely and utterly RIDICULOUS!... and his frustration was beginning to show. His jaw clenched in concentration and his mind started ticking, trying to formulate a plan of what he MIGHT be able to do to achieve finding his inner eye. For a short moment he considered faking it. Pretending he found his eye. It couldn't be THAT hard... could it?
Tapping his finger beneath his chin, Zeke continued staring, only, instead of staring AT the orb, he stared past it, at the other students. What were they doing? Could they see things yet? It was really hard to tell, everyone looked so vague and out of it... ugh ugh. From where he sat, he could see Leo looking just as lost with the activity as him. Good, at least he wouldn't be alone.
In the end, he focused back on his orb briefly before closing his eyes. HE NEEDED TO CLEAR HIS HEAD AGAIIIINNNN, or else he'd never see anything.

Marigold was REALLY TRYING. She felt bad, with her classmates falling asleep or not doing it right, whereas she was a prefect and was supposed to be setting an EXAMPLE.
She always knew she was rubbish at the practical stuff. She could take tests like a pro (hi, future 12 OWLs), but actually doing stuff? She was a failure.
She glowered at her reflection in the crystal ball.

Okay so what had everyone been doing that meant they couldn't even stay awake for a few moments staring at balls? Ruby wasn't sleepy at all in fact, and her mind was happily clear of almost everything except for the things she wouldn't mind seeing in the crystal you know?

Grayson lost it. Any sense of maturity was gone while the fifth year snorted and then burst out into a fit of silent laughter. His shoulders shook and he had to to cover his mouth with his hand to stop the laughter from escaping. Did Professor Cassie realise how bad that sounded? Oh MAN, there were going to be tears, if he wasn't careful. Concentrating on seeing images in the crystal ball was going to be HARD.
LOL, what maturity?
A couple of deep breaths later and the boy had finally gotten his laughter to die down enough to notice the expression on a certain fourth year's face. UGH. He wasn't meant to CARE. Not THIS much. Jeez, Sophie Newell. He kept his gaze on her, a small smile on his lips and a raised eyebrow look on his face. Something told him that he'd have to deal with whatever was going on over there. Comfort her or whatever it was.
And.............. then the lights dimmed, meaning that he couldn't see much of the girl's face even if he wanted to. It also meant that he felt a little something from a certain someone sitting near him. Grayson bit down on his bottom lip and closed his eyes. Clear his mind of all thoughts? Nope. Not possible. Not happening while Ruby was being very........ "Distracting." Not that HE was complaining.
Girls, man. Gotta love 'em.
Yeah. Fine. Breathing. TRY and clear his mind of all thought.
Gasp. Distracting? Her?
Ruby peeked at him out of the corner of her eye and smiled innocently. SOMEONE had an overactive imagination, clearly. Not that she blamed him considering... everything.
Ruby leaned on her hand a little and looked into her crystal ball...
oh look, mist!
