| | Defense Against the Dark Arts 2 Did the arena seem a little too bright and sunny this particular morning? Perhaps it was due to the windows being wide open as usual, or the freshly shined floors that seemed to sparkle like glittering stars. Whatever the case, the arena was warm and refreshing with a morning breeze passing through every now and then. Professor Romanos was currently absent from the arena at the moment, but the usual purple mats and small desks were situated in their usual rows in the middle of the arena, waiting to be claimed by the students. Come in! Have a seat! And try not to stare at the floor for too long. You may end up with those pesky white spots in your vision for awhile. OOC: Class has begun! Do feel free to RP as if you've been here the whole time. Don't want any loss of points for any latecomers, right? |

Romanos seemed pretty pleased with his answer, and Sophie's answer too. Toby beamed at her response, nodding along as she added her own explanation to it, and then glanced around to grin at Soph for just a brief second, before going back to taking notes and paying attention. 'Cause now he was eager to give even more good answers, if possible.
Okay, well, he WOULD stretch and stuff, in juuuuuuust a second. Tobias was determined to get all these notes down, because every little detail would make all the difference when it came to OWLs and stuff. He could still offer an answer though, and after some thought, Toby stuck his hand in the air again. "It's sorta... related to that one advantage, about how you can use offensive spells and have the defensive shield at the same time-" THEORETICALLY of course. Toby wasn't expecting to ever be in a situation like this, 'cause it just didn't happen. Not in his little fantasy world, at least. "-but that means you have to divide your focus, like making sure you're using the shield properly and not about to drop it or anything AND focusing on sending out spells, so you have to multi-task. It's like, good and bad, or potentially easier and more difficult at the same time. A double-edged thingy." Did that make sense? Probably not, but Toby felt if he just kept talking then eventually something would come out of his mouth that would make the raw idea in his head make some degree of sense.

| ½ EagleBrain ♥ Creeperdoodle ♥ Raven Dor ♥ Berry ♥ ½ Team House Elf Excellent opinion. This was one of the reasons why he liked DADA. Professor Romanos was both AWESOME and NICE, so coming to a lesson was always a win win as far as he was concerned. There would be no ditching this one.
He wasn't really in a mood for answering more questions though, so he chose to listen instead, and while he was at it, he figured he'd take the Professor up on her stretching idea.
Lifting himself up from his mat, Zeke righted himself first and then started by moving his legs and arms around. Kinda stretching, but not really, not properly. He did give his limbs a good wiggling though.

Zhenya didn't realise the silver shield wasn't actually silver. She put that piece of information in her brain, hoping it would stick there so she could write it down after class. But what were some down sides of using it over protego? Zhenya thought about it, but it was a bit of a tricky question. What were some negatives? She could probably think of a few small ones, but nothing really obvious. She thought some more, then raised her hand. Any guess was better than no guess. "One possible down side," she thought to herself, not really sure HOW the spell worked, "Could be space? If the user had to cast the spell in a really small space could it not work?" Being that it was a solid shield and all, was the spell conjured in varying sizes? She wasn't sure.

As Professor Romanos started to respond to the answers her students had provided her with, Adi began to make his notes while listening to her. So much interesting stuff! He wrote as quickly as he could.
Eh... the next question sort of stumped him though. Anyway, he found himself being distracted by the answers of his classmates. Hmmm. He was quite okay to just listen in this time around.

Jasmine was relieved when Professor Romanos didn't think her answer was totally off the wall. Soon they would get a chance to practice the Silver Shield spell, but apparently not yet.
When the Professor said they could stand up and stretch, Jasmine decided to give it a go. She began to stretch her arms a bit while still remaining seated. As she began to stretch her legs, Profesor Romanos threw out another question. This time Jasmine didn't immediately come up with an answer. She listened as her classmates responded and took notes as they went along. She would have to give this question a bit more thought.

Angel raised her hand as she thought about the question. "If you lose your wand then you have lost the shield?" Angel was sure that would be a downside to the main downside.

| elephant-astic•wanderlust•stay in the ninedaaays the original Taco Belle•look at the flowers✿ Maddie simply smirked when Professor Romanos chuckled at her answer. She was funny AND smart and so much talent in SUCH a small person could be surprising sometimes, she KNEW. Her answer HAD been right, though. It HAD.
As for the downfalls of the silver shield, Maddie was inclined to agree with Tobias. He had a good brain, that Hufflepuff did. Meant he wouldn't have to fall back on his looks in the future so GOOD for him. "Well, you'd have to keep hold of it because it's an actual physical shield and that means having both hands tied up and it might be hard for uncoordinated people to do." Shrug.

So Eden's answer hadn't been specific enough. She had KNOW that much--Eden didn't remember what the heck she had said about Silver Shield Spells in her homework..so...oops.
The Ravenclaw DID stand up and stretch though, because her brain was turning to mush from all these questions...that she didn't know the answers to. And here, yet again, was another one. Well. Oops. When she sat back down, she sighed and tapped her fingers on her desk. "Well--" She had raised her hand. "Um--well--it's probably not as practical to use in a tough situation--nerves might prevent you from being able to cast it as easily as other spells--" Was all she could think of. It was lame. Eden FELT lame. But whatever.
Sigh.

Kace was too busy staring off into space because he totally missed the second question. He heard some question being asked and it was about the silver shield spell I guess it was the pro's because they were doing the con's? He shrugged and he heard Zander's answer and agreed with him. Why bother repeating the information... BRING ON THE ACTIVITY.
He sometimes hated the question parts of the lesson it didn't really teach him anything other than the fact that he was not really intelligent in this subject. He could care less right now and he began to lie down on the matt and close his eyes. Wake him up when the questioning was over.

She liked Maddie's answer, having to keep hold of the physical shield. That one was going in her notes. Not having an answer for the question, Penelope quietly took notes on the answers that the other students were giving.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Jordan Kobe Fifth Year | I Can Accept Failure. But I Can't Accept Not Trying
Jordan hadn't necessarily been paying attention to what the professor said, and for some reason he wanted to snap out of falling asleep in class and he decided to stretch because his body was so tight and he needed to just get up for a second and move around, after all, they say you're better off on your feet or something clever and smart like that.
Jordan took some notes after hearing about this type of physical shield charm thing. He couldn't remember what exactly it was called because he kind of dozed off into space during the first half of the class and was just now refocusing his attention to the class. He did notice though that the Professor was having discussions about the downsides of this physical shield. So Jordan decided to take a shot in the dark: "Could a downside of the shield be that since it's a physical shield, isn't there a possibility for it to be broken by opponents?" He thought this would be a somewhat logical guess as it made sense to him, sometimes things tend to break while dueling and conjuring spells especially something like a shield. If it wasn't right, he was proud of himself for paying attention in class, something he used to struggle at especially in his first couple years of Hogwarts. But Jordan felt he was sort of getting used to it now.

WAIT. Pause for stretching! The second year leapt up and leaned over to touch her toes, glaring at her legs when her fingers came a few inches short. C'mon legs! NOW you decide to be long? Sitting back down on her mat, she recovered from her flexibility failures by ignoring the fact that the entire world probably just saw her being bad at stuff and decided to make up for it by giving the BESTEST answer to the final question. It was gonna be AWESOME. Norah twirled a strand or five around her finger and let it bounce back as she thought.
Hmph. The only things that she could think of were the conjuring issues, which they had already discussed, and how darn bright the room was. Oooh, and what would be for lunch. Maybe steak and kidney pie! Or beef casserole. Ahem, anyways. Complications. Complicatiooons. OOH! Shooting her hand into the air, Norah bounced a little on her mat and offered, "Maybe it gets worn down over time. 'Cause with protego you just deflect the spell like bam! but with the silver shield spell 'cause its a physical shield that you produce with transfiguration it gets weaker after blocking a bunch of stuff." Putting her hand back down, she gave Professor Romanos a satisfied smile. That was sooo good, right? Riiiight? Quote:

Little behind, but there was no cause to hurry. "Right," she nodded, looking up to the two students whom had given a similar answer. Oh, Norah and Jordan! "Just like anything else, the shield can be vorn down over time and broken completely given the right amount of force. Vhich could potentially make it a hastle to recreate a new shield and position it properly before the next attack occurs."
Depending on the situation of course. Quote:

As for the next question, Zander decided to speak up this time feeling as if staying quiet wasn't really getting him anywhere. Especially since his notes were kind of failing, participation would probably be the next best way to absorb the information, right? Uh. "Well, with the shield you've probably got to concentrate more since it's a physical thing... But with protego it takes little effort and it's pretty quick," Uh, right? Maybe? ... Next time he'd let Sophie answer. "So in a duel, when you've got little time, a quick spell might be preferred?" He was really trying here, people. Quote:

And it had nothing to do with her rising age. Ahem. "That could be a great possibility of happening," she nodded with a sigh of relief as she leveled her back out again. "Although, today, ve're going to be hopefully getting somevot used to the position of a physical shield upon our arms. SO, on that note..." "If you aren't standing up, please do so now," she spoke, redirecting her attention to the class as a whole. It was time to get moving! "And do take out your vands... though do keep the spell casting to non-existent at the moment." They all got a not so serious 'look'.
No pranking and all that. You know. 'Cause she had to turn her back for a moment to move her mat out of the way.
Moving on! "Quick final question, does anyone know the vand movement for this spell?" |

Jordan stood up after the Professor told the class to, and boy was he glad. He was starting to get pretty bored of sitting there taking notes and answering questions. The wand movement for this spell. Hmph. This question really stumped Jordan and he couldn't come up with an answer, quickly at least. But he decided to give it a shot and give an educated guess to the Professor. Who knows, he might be right...or wrong. "Professor, is the wand movement a quick swish across your body?" Jordan said questioning himself as if he didn't really know whether it was right or wrong. How could he know anyways? He had no clue and couldn't remember whether or not he learned it.

Lux thought it was a good idea to have more than one shield mastered just in case something happened, so this was a great thing. And knowing Hogwarts, something ALWAYS happened.
Getting her wand out, she slowly stood up and gave a few stretches to loosen up; best not to be tense when practicing a new spell. Not knowing the sand movement, she remained silent so that other people could answer. |

Zhenya uncrossed her legs and made her way up to her feet and stretched her back out. She had her wand in her hand, and it was hanging limply by her side. Oh, right, next question! She had never cast this spell before, but she realised that others probably did, so she didn't speak this time. She was mentally preparing for casting a spell she had never cast before.

It was spell casting time.......almost. Did anyone know the wand movement for the Silver Shield spell? Jasmine certainly did not. She had only read about it recently and didn't remember any mention of the wand moment. So, no answer to give here. Jasmine kept her hand down and her mouth closed. She wasn't even going to take a guess at this one. She just held her quill, ready to take notes when the answer came.

Adi made notes on the previous question, now answered by some of his classmates and Professor. Hmmm...the next one...the Hufflepuff pondered upon it as he stood up. After a minute or so, he raised his hand.
"We wave our wands, perhaps.'' He was uncertain.

YAY! They were moving on to the practical stuff and just GAHH! She stood and stretched her arms--and then her legs even, too, and pulled out her wand. No spells? Eden just set her wand on her desk to keep from accidentally you know..doing magic. Not that it was likely to happen, but better safe than sorry.
The 'vand' movement--Eden wasn't even really sure of this. HA. She was such an ace student------NOT. Pffft. How she was doing well in this class she had no clue because she constantly felt behind and/or lost in this one. Well then.
No one seemed to know the answer...yet...well..this was AWKYDAWKY. Eden hoped either Sophie or Toby or Grayson or even MADDIE would swoop in with their vast knowledge and know the right answer?

Norah smiled at Professor Romanos as she picked up her quill to start writing down the answer. She had been right! WOOT! Still grinning to herself, she scribbled in her notes and added a few happy faces and stars next to the writing JUST because actually knowing things was so much fun. Yippee!
And then it was less fun, 'cause she didn't know the answer to this one. She took a short pause before listening to her classmates' answers, leaning back further on her elbows and daydreaming about how wonderful it would be when she went to 7th year and knew all the answers.

| elephant-astic•wanderlust•stay in the ninedaaays the original Taco Belle•look at the flowers✿ Maddie stood, stretching her arms over her head as best she could. It felt good and she kept them there for a minute or two before lowering her arms again and grabbing hold of her wand. She liked practical portions of this class BEST and she was definitely ready to try her hand at this particular spell. "Is it a flick, professor?" Wand flicks were pretty frequent movements as far as she was concerned so Maddie figured this guess wasn't TOO preposterous.

Kace heard the professor move on with the lesson and he heard her asking people to get up. Welp I guess that was his cue. He got up from his position which was relaxing on the mat and he heard the last question. What was the wand movement for the spell? He heard a flick, a swish and a wave. Kace better be creative or something. He hoped the wand movement wasn't too complicated.
He spoke up and said, "Professor I think the movement could be a circular motion and a tap." he shrugged just guessing on this one. He really had NO idea.

Angel rasied her hand. "Is it a flick with a sideward motion?" Angel wasn't sure but it was worth a guess right, she might as well give it a try.

At the prompting from Romanos, Toby scribbled the last few words to the sentence he was writing in his notes before dropping his quill and jumping up to his feet. He glanced around the room at the others, just out of habit, and extracted his wand from its holster and twirled it between his fingers.
And almost dropped it. Ahem. You saw nothing.
The answer to this question was not something Toby remembered (slightly worryingly) but, presumably, those who had spoken up had already done so correctly. Sooooo he just stood and waited and stretched out his wand arm in preparation and stuff.
Or, actually no, he'd stretch BOTH arms. If he did manage to conjure this shield, it might be heavy, after all.
