Dec picked up the brush. "Is it alright with you if I brush you a bit?" He asked the creature, running his hands through its feathers to give it a heads up. Casting the cleaning spell on the brush first, he then started brushing the beast slowly, waiting to see if it would let him. When it started to position itself allow him to brush into more places, he started making his way around until he got every nook and cranny.

"Alright, buddy."
He set down the brush to empty out the bucket they were given. "Why don't we head over to this little pool over here for a bath, hmm?" Declan cooed, patting him softly to coax him into the pool. "There we go. Now, all we need is this..." He unscrewed the bottle with the white liquid to pour half of it into the water. "...and all you need to do is relax. Simple right??" He grinned at the creature, petting its back.

It was moments like these when Layla wished animals were capable of looking after themselves. There was definitely nothing in her future career path that led to having to brush and clean a horse thing and quite frankly she was still questioning why on earth she had bothered to attend this lesson. She had approached it and that was enough for now. She didn’t need to go near it and in a magical world such as this ‘Hippogriffs’ or whatever they were called should have been able to brush themselves.

Urgh.

She cleaned the brush prior although she wasn’t particularly bothered anyway. “Scourgify” she sighed before glancing around for a familiar face. Someone she could perhaps palm this work off to and not really have to bother doing it by herself. No one? Yep okay..

She showed the brush to the creature before cautiously stroking its feathers. Soft but still not anything she wanted to do again anytime soon. The Ravenclaw began using the brush this time, slowly stroking and preening the creature all the time keeping a straight-faced rather grumpy expression across her lips. She was definitely dropping this after OWL’s.

Ohh. The man in the shorts and Tee was giving more instructions. Adi listened. Okay, he could do all of that. First he emptied the bucket, watching the items in it tumble out. Interesting stuff there.

Pat, pat, pat. Grey Feathers got more of those as Adi started to lead him in the direction of the pool. So far, so good. "You're doing great,'' he said. More pats. The duo were closer to the pool now...just a little bit closer...and there! They were there. "Well done, Grey Feathers.'' Adi patted the Griff on the head. All he had to do was get the creature into the pool. With some more coaxing, patting and words, the Griff was now IN the pool. Great.

The Hufflepuff grabbed the bottle of liquid thingy then poured half of it into the pool. Grey Feathers seemed to be loving the suds for he squawked again.

Angel really wanted to curl up with Benny now until the end of the class this was scary.

"Scourgify! Angel did the wand movement and pointed towards the brush, she then rubbed the Hippogriff with the brush. "Is this right?" Angel suddenly asked her boyfriend.

"Hippogriffs are very friendly creatures as long as you dont...ruffle their feathers. Figuratively, not literally." They were being nice to his feathers as they brushed them, cleaning them out as the professor mentioned was the purpose for the brush.

"Uh huh...perfect," he confirmed with a smile. Not to hard yet not to gentle. A just right movement of the brush against the creature, the hippogriff clearly enjoying it by the occasional sounds that it made. Glancing briefly at Professor Thompson as he instructed them further, Ben listened to the man until the hippogriff nudged him, the action rather playful and he realized he had stopped brushing and rubbing as he listened. "Okay...okay...I wont stop," he mused with a light chuckle as he looked back at his companion, resuming the actions.

"If you want Angel, empty the bucket and be ready with the bottle," he suggested, thinking on what they were being asked to do and what the younger Gryffindor might be comfortable doing. "I think I can lead him into the pool. " Even if he managed to get his own feet wet.

She took everything out of the bucket, making sure that all of the items were present. All of the supplies were accounted for so it was time to get started.

Alright my friend, it's time to get into the pool.". Jasmine stroked her Hippogriff's head and and spoke gently to him. "Come on now. It's going to feel soooo good when you get in that nice soapy water.". Did she sound convincing? Jasmine certainly hoped so.

Jasmine continued to run her hand across Buddy's back and then tried to give him a little nudge forward. He looked at Jasmine like he was unsure about the whole thing. "You'll like it, I promise, she said. The Hippogriff began to move forward slowly until they reached the edge of the pool. "All you have to do is get inside and I'll make you some nice bubbles. Trust me." Given one more little nudge, Buddy stepped into the pool of water. "Good boy. You did it. Now it's bubble time." Jasmine gave him a little pat for encouragement, then she opened the bottle and poured half of the liquid into the water.

The bubbles began to form, surrounding Buddy's hooves and legs. He appeared to relax and Jasmine contined to pat his head and back. She wanted to make sure that he felt comfortable and secure. Wondering what they would have to do next, Jasmine just made sure that her Buddy was happy.

Hold the snitch, why did the Gryffindor get the idea that this class wouldn't actually be about flying but rather, Hippogriff care? Merlin's beard, this so wasn't what she signed up for--or maybe it was but she'd been hoping for something that didn't keep everyone firmly planted on the ground because how depressing was that? For now she would tell herself the flying was coming at the end, that way she still had something to look forward to while she apparently tried getting this thing into the mini pool.

What was she to do if it didn't want do go in there? Make no mistake, she was getting mauled for no one and these creatures tended to have their own ideas of what they wanted to do with their lives. All the power to them and she'd try but she had to say if things got ugly, she wasn't forcing this thing to take a bath. Not even.

"Alright, how's about we move this brushing session to the pool?" She tried, even as she continued brushing along it's neck. "Come on now, this way." Lex began moving forward, gesturing for the Hippogriff to do the same. "Don't make this hard, I will stop brushing you." And so it would take her seriously, she eased up on the brushing a bit. This caused the Hippogriff to move forward, nudging away at her hand for her to continue. Each time it nudged she took a step back then another while it advanced on her until it was finally standing in the mini pool at which point she began brushing again.

That wasn't so hard, just had to know what it liked and take advantage of it.

While she brushed it's underbelly, she reached for the bottle in question and poured half into the pool. Definitely bath time.

Ian was pleased to see Ruffles step into the water, as I fthis was something he'd done before. Ian emptied the bucket and grabbed the container of liquid, pouring it into the water. When he was done, he reached up and stroked Ruffles feathers.

Next came bathing time.

Which, by the way, he wasn't gonna be cleaning no hindquarters of any creature. Just saying.

But leading the creature into the pool and pouring the white substance didn't sound like a difficult task. So, he took the bucket and emptied it out. The bottle of white substance -- was it a potion of some kind? -- was put to one side because he'd need that later. As for now, he needed to turn his attention back towards the hippogriff.

"Alright, hippogriff, I just need to give you a bath, mkay?" Yes? Did the hippogriff agree to that? "So I need you go into that pool over there." No, he did not. DEADPAN. "C'mooooooon! It's just a bit of water! I'm not gonna leave you there and run off!" But, if anything, that made things worse and before he knew it, the hippogriff was shuffling backwards and away from the pool.

Great. Just great.

"Nooooo! I need you to go THIS way! C'mon! It's gonna be fun!" he said, patting the hippogriff a little slower than before. Something about this treatment seemed to make the creature relax a bit more than before. Good? Grayson continued patting the hippogriff in this way before saying in a low voice, "C'mon, I'm gonna give you a bath and you're gonna love it." Truth.

A small smirk spread across the Slytherin's face as the creature moved, this time in the forward direction and over towards the pool. "Thaaaat's it! Good boy!" What? It worked on dogs! Once the creature was in the pool, Grayson moved away and grabbed the bottle of suspicious white substance. He carefully opened it and poured half of the contents into the pool that his hippogriff was sitting in. Only half.

Toby continued to brush Monty even as he looked around at Thompson, who was speaking again. This time, the Hufflepuff's attention sort of wandered as the man spoke, and he found himself constantly phasing in and out during the instructions. Nevertheless, he could more or less keep up with what they had to do. He blinked hard, shook his head, and managed to concentrate enough to catch the tail end of what the professor was telling them.

Right, so... Tobias looked at Monty again, still brushing, and squinted as he tried to recall that first step. A little way away, out of the corner of his eye, Toby caught sight of movement from another student. He looked over to see them emptying out their bucket, which sort of served to kickstart his memory again. Empty bucket, coax hippogriff to pool, pour that white stuff into water. Easy enough.

He didn't start straight away, preferring to really do a good job with the brushing and cleaning of Monty's feathers before moving on. It was important to Toby that Monty was super happy with what was going on, and he was still brushing out dirt and stuff from the hippogriffs feathers, so it didn't feel right to stop now.

But eventually he did, because class would be moving on soon, and many others had already completed this step. Toby stopped brushing, stroked Monty's feathers, and leaned down to pick up the bucket and empty it of its contents. Seeing everything accounted for, the fifth year looked back to his chosen hippogriff and smiled.

"C'mon Monty, you should come over to this pool. Apparently it's super nice, dead relaxing." As he spoke in that calm and gentle manner that always seemed to be most apparent when he conversed with animals, Toby reached up to pat Monty's feathers again. He made a 'follow me' gesture with his head and stepped towards the pool, hoping to lead the creature that way. At first, Monty hesitated, but with a few pats and then some more brushing (apparently this hippogriff was a big big fan), they finally made progress.

Toby couldn't help but grin as Monty stepped into the pool of water, first with those large, scaly and taloned feet, and then those brutal looking hooves.

"Great job, Monty. Now check this out."

Tobias held up the bottle, as though showing Monty what he was going to do before actually doing it (whether this made any difference to the hippogriffs understanding of the situation was unclear; Toby thought that maybe Monty recognised the entire cleaning routine in any case, though he still liked to be totally upfront with the creature). Then, having taken off the lid, he poured half of the liquid into the pool just as Thompson had done. As he recapped the bottle, Monty sank down into that sitting position just as Henry had done, as the suds formed instantly in the water.

More smiling from Toby was happening, as the Hufflepuff went ahead and sat down too, right by the pool. He didn't care that he was on the floor or anything, just wanted to keep that same height difference between himself and Monty. Plus, he was still talking to the creature, and it just felt right to sit side by side, at least until the class was told what to do next.

...

"D'you want me to keep brushing you?" No answer (of course). "... I'm gonna keep brushing you."

And so he did, even though he wasn't sure they were really supposed to; the hippogriff just really seemed to love it, and he just wanted the make the creature happy. Monty gave what Toby could only describe as a relaxed, happy sort of squawk, and so the Hufflepuff continued.

Onto getting his hippogriff into the pool. He needed to clean his talons now. He needed to give him/her a name. He wondered what gender he could be. "Hey Professor I am curious.." he called out. "How can you tell if your hippogriff is a girl or boy. I mean I would like to give it a name.." he gestured to his hippogriff. He knew the obvious way but he wanted to know if there were other ways. But he needed to get onto the task at hand since the Professor seemed busy at the moment. "Alright you, we are gonna go by the pool over there see?" he pointed towards it. The hippogriff's eyes followed his and eyed the pool. It didn't seem too happy at first. It seemed apprehensive at first. "I will be right there with you I promise, no one else will touch you.." he promised. He kept petting him to earn his trust. It closed his eyes and nuzzled.

He took as much time as he needed. "Come on.." he offered. He was gonna push him/her or make it do anything. It actually waited a few seconds then it followed him! He smiled and walked him over to the pool. It stopped a few feet before it and Kace put his hands into the water and it seemed a bit cold. He used the hose and put warm water into it. "See not too cold.." he said wetting his hands and it seemed lukewarm. "Go on and try.." he smiled. The hippogriff nodded and lifted his talon and put it into the water. It seemed to like it and he put all his feet into it. SUCCESS!

Now he needed to potion. He got it from the table and put it in. Then he hippogriff seemed relax and squawked. He saw Adi having success too and he smiled towards him.

"Good question, Mr. Lecium" Since some would much prefer to know at first glance. "Other ways you can tell on the gender is their height and width. male Hippogriffs will be taller in height, but slimmer in width, whilst female Hippogriffs will be smaller in size. Also, male Hippogriffs have a lighter shade of coloured feathers to help impress or warn others of their presence. " They were very prideful after all.

Zeke's hazel eyes shot up to his Hipporgriff, and the beam on his face was in danger of disappearing into his hairline. THIS WAS AWESOME! Of course how he was going to handle washing a BIIIIGGG beast, being a little firstie, was an interesting concept. But meh... he'd figure it out.

"Professor, does my Hippogriff have a name? Is it a boy or a girl?" he needed to know these things if he was going to be coaxing it to do things and such. Names were vital for communication and forming bonds and things. PLUS, it was too lovely not to have a name. It NEEDED a name... and he had to know it.

Emptying his bucket, Zeke pocketed the small bottle, then he returned to his Hippogriff. "Would you like a bath?... not that you really have a choice, but I promise I'll look after you real good. It'll feel nice, and you'll be all clean afterward and be SUPER pretty, cause you already are." So yeah, yeah... was this coaxing enough?

Zeke pat the beast gently, smiling at it. The beasts golden amber eyes stared back at him and he dipped his/her head a couple of times. WHAT DID THAT MEAN?! "Come on, I'll keep patting you in the water," he added, "the water will be nice, I promise, it'll be relaxing and then later once you're clean we can fly." Personally, the promise of going flying would get HIM to do ANYTHING - or almost anything, so perhaps that incentive would work on the Hippogriff?

"This way," he coaxed some more, pointing to the pool and then patting the beast along its side and then gently on the hindquarters. With a couple of pats, the Hippogriff started moving in the right direction, and slowly but surely, they reached the pool. It stood in the water, but didn't sit like Professor Thompson's did. Then he remembered the bottle in his pocket.

"Look! It's like a bubble bath!" he said cheerfully as he emptied half of the contents into the water

Professor Thompson took a moment to look as if actually considering on naming this one. But where was the fun in that? Smiling a little. "Why it's your lucky day.. I have not named him yet, so you're more than welcome to."

Even though she knew Professor Thompson was a nice man, Lux was still relieved when he said she didn't have to ride on her Hippogriff. The thought of walking right by the creatures was really nice to her as long as she wasn't required to leave the ground. Her fear was that a Hippogriff wanting to stretch his wings would fly waaaaay up in the air, not barely off the ground. But she did have another question come to mind and figured the Professor wouldn't mind since it WAS part of his job to answer questions. "Could I ride mine without him flying? Or do they automatically fly when someone gets on their back?" Maybe she was being silly, but she didn't know too much about Hippogriffs besides that they were prideful and wanted respect.

Continuing to brush her Hippogriff, she moved on to the next task as soon as she was finished. Emptying out the bucket, she carefully placed the items on the ground; there was no point in dumping things out needlessly. The only thing she kept was the bottle, which she placed in her pocket for the moment.

Gently stroking his head, she started coaxing him to the little pool once she had his attention. "How about a nice bath, Mr. Hippogriff. It will be amazing and you will feel nice and clean. Your coat will be super shiny and wonderful." As she gently talked to him, she carefully led him to the pool. At first he was a little hesitant, but more head pats and a gentle pat on his hindquarters got him moving. "Good boy, there will be loads more of nice head pats for you."

Mr. Hippogriff got into the water, and she poured in half of the liquid. She was happy to see him get comfy in the water the way that Henry had.

"Well Miss Carrington, as long as you continue praising and treating them right as you are currently whilst explaining your wishes, they will obey to your command." So in effect, yes they can stay on the ground while being ridden.

Now for the next part, "Now then, first take the bucket and pour the rest of the white liquid wash in." Unscrewing the top again to dump the rest into the bucket. "Then with the spell Aguamenti, fill it until it reaches halfway to dilute it. The water should resemble the texture of skim milk afterward. If it still looks thick, swivel or stir the bucket around until it does. It's important to dilute the wash because of the strength of it can damage their feathers otherwise." But was that it?

"Now take one of the blocks, these are sponges so dip one of them in and begin scrubbing their body starting from the head." Of course, one last tip whilst the Professor demonstrated by sticking the brick-shaped sponge into the wash before squeezing some of it to stop the dripping. Then carefully going over the top of the Hippogriff's head, patting the sponge over it lightly working in downward motions. "After you covered through every inch, you can finally use the last sponge to remove excess moisture and allow the feathers to air dry after." As Javier continued his scrubbing to the other regions, the earlier areas he started at began drying. He paused occasionally to pick up the other sponge and wipe off the drips to soak it up each time. This took some time, but luckily not too long since it was a sunny day for once. Now only one item was left to use.

Angel looked at Benny and smiled. "I can do that." Angel was glad Benny wasn't making her do something hard, she was still scared that the Hippogriff was going to do something mean but at the minute it seems cool and she was glad about that.

Angel emptied the bucket and got the bottle ready just like Benny had asked her too. "I'm ready, what do I do next?" Angel hoped that she had done everything right didn't want Benny being mad.

Catching up O.o - post 3, brushing and start of bathing

Now that they seemed to have an agreement, Brooklyn had reached out to stroke the side of her hippogriff’s head even as Professor Thompson had begun speaking again. She wasn’t behind. Her hippogriff had just been stubborn, and she could still listen while she kept petting the creature. Even if her hand was sort of above her head at the moment, yet she wasn’t about to try to climb up onto the hippogriff, and there wasn’t anything close to her that she could climb to gain height either. It seemed as if the hippogriff had sensed the awkwardness, though, as the elegant head had lowered enough so it was nearly at the same level as her head. In a really weird way, she was feeling similarities between it and Tywin, except her kitten was obviously smaller.

The hippogriff had almost started nuzzling her head by the time she’d collected a brush, cleaned it, and begun running it in slow strokes along the feathers closest to her. It had seemed to like that, and she kept brushing, making absolutely sure that there was going to be no reason whatsoever that her hippogriff would look worse than the others. She’d take as long as she wanted in order to keep hers looking the best, and most of the baby pools had been taken by the time she’d lowered her brush and upended the bucket to reveal the other supplies the professor had explained. She might have rolled her eyes more than once during that explanation, simply at the need to explain what a sponge was, but it had been hidden by the bulk of her hippogriff. She knew what a sponge was. “Okay, now we’re going to move again,” she whispered to the creature, her hand lightly stroking its neck again. “You’re gonna follow me, right?” She was getting it to a pool either way.

Slowly, they’d made their way to the closest baby pool, and it hadn’t been hard to get the hippogriff to step inside. The agreement was still in place, and she was finding it amusing to compare the creature to her kitten. Just a lot bigger. Either way, it wasn’t going to hurt her. Not now. She took her eyes off it long enough to collect the soap stuff, and once she poured half of the bottle into the water in the pool, things went even easier. Her hippogriff seemed to know what was coming, but she showed it the sponges just in case. Now to fill her bucket, and then she’d be off and running. Cleaning, anyway, and the hippogriff was lucky she liked it. She wouldn’t go through the trouble washing anything else if asked. She was a princess, not a maid.

Hady had gotten so caught up in brushing her Hippogriff whom she had named Fleck. She wasn't sure how or where she got the name but she liked it. Shifting slightly to be able to see the Professor she listened and watched everything he did intently. All the while she continued with the brushing of said Fleck, every so often making sure to clean off her brush. After a few minutes of this she set gathered up the soap and sponges into her arms.

"Hey there Fleck, are you ready for a bath?"
She asked her Hippogriff softly a hand running down his side and ruffling up his feathers. "It's going to be really nice, cool water and bubbles. I'll clean every inch of you and make you even more handsome, not that that's even possible." Hady grinned up at her friend as she began gently nudging him forward towards the pool of water. It was easier then she'd expected getting him to move with her.

As they neared the pool Hady kept talking in a soft tune and set the things at her feet. Picking up the small bottle she opened it pouring half into the pool of water and closing it up again. Watching the water foam up with tons of bubbles Hady guided Fleck into the water a grin on her face as he settled down into it. Awesome he liked it! "See I told you it'd be nice Fleck." The Slytherin beamed at him.

Now to wash him clean like the Professor had done. Pouring the rest of the soap stuff into the bucket she pulled out her wand and added water into it with 'Agumenti'. She moved the bucket around a bit making sure it was diluted enough before dipping one of the sponges into it. Reaching up as high as she could she began to gently wash down the Hippogriff's feathers. After the first to times of this Fleck got the idea and lowered his head some so that the tiny firstie could get the top of his head which made Hady giggle. "You my friend are just awesome and very handsome I must say."

....................... Did he hear that correctly?

HE could name the Hippogriff? REALLY? HE could name HIM?

Zeke BEAMED the biggest he's EVERRRR beamed. "Thanks Professor, I won't let you... or him down." He was going to come up with the BEST name for THIS Hippogriff which he was already kinda claiming as his own.

"Don't worry boy, I'll get you a good name, one that suits you perfectly!" He was convinced of this, though he couldn't say the Hippogriff looked as confident.

With the bubbled foaming around its legs, it finally flopped itself into a sitting position in the water, making it far easier to reach his dirty spots.

Petting the Hippogriff some more, and taking in his full appearance, Zeke then turned to hear the next of the Professors instructions. YAYYY! CLEANING!

Zeke collected his bucket and the two sponges, leaving one to the side for now so he could use it later. First he added the rest of the small bottles contents into the bucket, and then filled it with water. "Aguamenti," he recited, watching the bucket fill to the right amount before stopping it, "Finite." With the washing water ready, Zeke dipped the end of one of the sponges in, and turned back to the Hippogriff. "You're going to be so handsome once we're done, super clean, and the sun will just bounce off you." That was the plan.

Starting with the head, Zeke held a hand to the Hippogriff's cheek and started cleaning from the other side, upwards, and then across and back down the cheek he was holding, then underneath where a chin would be - if bird-like beasts would have them... and then along further back to the neck. He Was Yet To Be Named squawked happily as the attention moved from his face to his neck and progressively to his back. He WAS gorgeous. Clearly a tough looking MANLY Hippogriff. "Did you know that Hippogriff's are common creatures in Greek Mythology? Go figure the muggles got something right," Zeke started to muse conversationally to He Was Yet To Be Named as he worked. "And with that in mind, I think a handsome Greek name would suit you. One that's as powerful as you look," he added, moving a little further along his back and stopping to pay one of the wings some attention. "I'd say Uranus, which was the God of the Heavens, also known as the Father Sky... but some people might miss the genius of that for something vulgar instead." Such a shame... so no, NOT Uranus. "Helios maybe?" he pondered, trying to gauge the Hippogriff's reaction. "Titan of the Sun and Guardian of Oaths... that sounds noble and powerful, which is everything that you are." The name was growing on him, but they'd wait and see.

Zeke continued working on the beast, patting it occasionally and washing very diligently as it squawked happily from time to time.

Wet Ruffles

Ian continued to make da bubbles as Ruffles stood in the water. Very stoic animal. It made Ian a wee but nervous. His dad had always warned him to be mindful of things that you couldn't read. They might hide great turmoil just under the surface. It was easier to deal with turbulence you could see than hidden obstacles you couldn't. When the bubbles were nice and fluffy, Ian scratched Ruffles right behind the ear holes. Ian was pleased when Ruffles leaned his head in that direction. Must be doing it right

Ian heard the professor provide more instructions. More bubbles YAY!!! Ian watched as the professor patted the Henry Hippogriff and saw his buddy Zeke's excitement at the chance to name his hippogriff.

Ian grabbed the sponge and tossed it in the water and added the remainder of the liquid and then aguamenti ing some more water. Ian talked to himself and ruffles as the water filled up the pool. water, water, filling the pool with water. Ian looked at the pool and saw the water wasn't quite a smooth milky consistency. He reached down while adding a touch more water to slosh he water in the pool. He started to sing Splish Splash Ruffles taking a bath, here in the creatures pasture. before he moved on p the next step, Ian said the finite and reached up to scratch the neck again. Doing ok, buddy? We're going to make you clean, dude!

"Enjoying that, Grey Feathers?" Adi asked as he watched the Griff. It seemed content sitting in the pool with suds all around him. He caught Kace's eyes and grinned back at his Housemate. They were both making excellent progress with their Griffs. The boy craned his head in Thompson's direction as his voice drifted toward him.

Bucket set in front of him, Adi poured the remainder of the liquid into it. "Aguamenti!'' Water flowed from the wand's tip, into the bucket. "Finite!'' Yep, there it was a half way filled bucket of sudsy water now. But it did look kind of thick...time to remedy that!

Swiveling the bucket, swiveling, swiveling, swiveling...annnnd there! The mixture had thinned out. Next up, the sponge was dipped into the mixture then squeezed out. Following Thompson's lead, Adi did exactly as was demonstrated. He started from the head, patting the sponge against the Griff ever so lightly. Afterwards, he moved on to the rest of the body, repeating the process while stopping sometimes to use the other sponge to help dry off the feathers.

For a short while, Zeke worked in silence, too absorbed in his cleaning technique and stroking the Hippogriff at the same time. He was making good progress now, and the job would soon be done. At the parts where the wings were, he spent a bit more time making sure his wings of steal grey, black and brown were perfectly clean and shiny, and in the crook of its hindquarters too.

It wasn't until He Who Was Yet To Be Named turned his head around to give him a nudge that he realised his hands had stopped moving and he was simply resting his hand on the beasts back. "Sorry boy," he replied softly, re-dipping the sponge into the cleaning solution and moving it around the beasts body in soothing circular motions.

"You know, I do think Helios suits you... you're eyes are bright like the Sun, I'm sure you soar quite as high, and you are a very noble creature," he concluded, perfectly satisfied with the name now. "You are Helios," he nodded, pausing to HUUUGGGG the wet and suds covered Hippogriff. It let out a short light squawk, before nudging him again. Zeke chuckled.

He abandoned his wet sponge for the dry one, and started to remove the excess water from Helios' face, and again he moved slowly and soothingly back to the end of the Hippogriff. No more suds, no more excess moisture, just cleanliness. The wings of course were damp, but the Professor had said to let those air-dry, and so he did, though he helped it a little in the crook where they met on his back.

This was a pleasant and semi-surreal experience, when Toby actually stopped to think about it. Sitting out on the grounds in his pyjamas, beside a hippogriff that was taking a bubble bath, both of them totally chill. In fact, when he mentally took a step back and surveyed the situation, Tobias couldn't help but let out a little laugh. Monty looked at him curiously, but Toby didn't know how to explain his train of thought very well, so he just smiled.

He couldn't keep brushing for long though, because Toby had more work to do. He set down the brush, letting it balance on his knee for the time being and, with Monty observing, poured the rest of that bubble liquid stuff into the now empty bucket.

"Aguamenti," Toby said, pointing his wand into the bucket and waiting for it to start filling with water. Except... uhh... nothing. Nothing was happening. The Hufflepuff furrowed his brow and sort of shook his wand before tapping it into the palm of his free hand. Helloooooo, is this thing on? Probably a concentration thing though; water and ice spells tended to be the ones that Toby found more challenging. He tried again, with more focus on the intent of the spell this time. "Aguamenti!"

And there it was. Tobias kept up the spell until the bucket was filled about halfway. After cancelling the spell and peeking inside, Toby was unsure if that was the right consistency, so he sort of gently shook the bucket to stir the mixture just to make extra sure it was all properly mixed.

Welp. Couldn't really sit around anymore, seeing as he needed to get up and move around to do the cleaning thing. First, though, Toby dunked one of the sponges into the water before wringing it out slightly, as he'd watched Thompson do, just so that it wasn't totally saturated. Then, with the other, dry sponge in his other hand, Toby got to his feet and started the hippogriff washing process.

"I'm sure you've been through this loads before," Toby said to Monty as he used the wet, kinda soapy sponge to wash Monty's feathers as had been demonstrated. "But I never washed a hippogriff before, so I hope I'm doing it right and stuff." And on and on he went, thoroughly washing Monty's feathers region by region. Monty still seemed to be quite relaxed, and as he cleaned, Toby was telling the hippogriff all sorts of cool stories and personal secrets, keeping his voice low so it was just between the two of them.

Switching to the other sponge in order to help with the drying process, Toby paused and tilted his head at the hippogriff before wiping away at some of the drips.

"Y'know, you really are super beautiful, Monty," he said, in quite a matter of fact sort of tone. "And super lovely too. Real nice. Great listener. I bet all the other hippogriffs want you as their best friend." Tobias was certain of that, and he nodded as he spoke, though Monty's eyes were all closed out of relaxation, and Toby was reminded of a cat basking contently in the sun.

This was good as Professor Thompson smiled and nodding approvingly at how the students were progressing. It was pretty calm and tranquil currently.. Which usually spells out a certain outcome to disrupt it.

Now then the real fun was sure to begin. "Alright, now you can coax your Hippogriff out of the pool of water for their lower halves to properly dry out." The Professor momentarily turned his attention to Henry. Rubbing a few times before patting near his hind, making him move up, "That's it Henry, very good." When he was fully out of it, he earned extra ruffles. "Now with the fine comb, after cleaning it carefully run it over all of it's feathers, smoothing them out." Took quite a few long strokes worth. "Afterward you're sure that they're fully dry and clean you can guide them outside of the pen. Slowly... we'll be taking them for a bit of a run soon." That's right. This was more than just a bath for them.

---
Last chance to full bathe your Hippogriff before the big run. As instructed Once they're fully clean and dry guide them outside the pen. Instructions on the run will be later on tonight. =)

SPOILER!!: Le Professor Uno

Also, male Hippogriffs have a lighter shade of coloured feathers to help impress or warn others of their presence. " They were very prideful after all.

Kace nodded and finally understood. He looked at his hippogriff and saw it was a little short in height. That means it was a female. Interesting and all this time he thought she was a boy. She seemed to have darker feathers too since males had light feathers. He grinned and said, "I will name you Charlene.." He totally took his sisters name for her owl but it seemed to suit her. He heard the next set of directions and watched carefully. He followed what the professor was doing and took his bucket and pour the rest of the white liquid wash in. Now he needed to dilute it and he got his wand out and said, "Aquamenti" and it still seemed thick after he filled it up halfway. Hmm...he needed to stir it. He began to stir it with his wand and shook it to really dilute it. He didn't want his hippogriff feathers to be damaged.

Now he needed to take a sponge and scrub Charlene. He showed her and nodded and pointed it to it. She nodded and understood. "I am just gonna scrub you.." he told her gently and dipped the sponge into the liquid and began to scrub her beginning with her head. She seemed to like it very much. He was covering her from head to toe like the professor was. She seemed happy and was squawking in content. She really needed this cleaning. After he was done, he used the last sponge to remove excess moisture and to let her feathers dry.

Catching up on bathing. ^_^

Oh wonderful. She would be able to ride her Hippogriff. Smiling, she nodded at Professor Thompson because she understood what he was telling her.

Taking her bucket, she poured in the rest of the liquid. She needed to dilute it, so she took her wand out of her pocket. With Aguamenti, she filled the bucket so that it was half full. Looking inside, she saw that she didn't quite have the consistency of skim milk, so she swirled the bucket around until it looked right. The last thing she wanted right now was to damage Mr. Hippogriff's feathers because he was her new friend and that would be mean.

Picking up one of the sponges, she dipped it into the bucket before squeezing off the extra liquid. "I'm going to sponge you now," she told her Hippogriff as she gave him a few more head pats. Copying the way Professor Thompson worked she started sponging Mr. Hippogriff, working first on his head and then making her way down. She used the other sponge to remove any excess moisture. It was a good thing that it was a nice sunny day, because otherwise he wouldn't dry off as quickly.

FearlessLeader19 11-09-2014 10:24 PM

"You're doing great, Grey Feathers.'' The Griff squawked. Obviously it agreed. Or maybe it enjoyed being rubbed dry with the sponge, which Adi was finishing up ondoing right now. Not a moment too soon for the Professor spoke up with a fresh set of instructions.

After listening and watching the man demonstrate, Adi followed suit. Rub then pat the hind. "Excellent. You're still doing great. Come on, this way.'' Grey Feathers followed the boy, stepping out of the pool.

"Well done.'' Next, Adi magically cleaned the comb then carefully dragged it through the feathers so that they were smoothed out and fell neatly in place. When that was done some minutes later, Adi began to talk to Grey Feathers again, calmly urging him out of the pen (after making sure he was dry, of course).

The Griff seemed to have nooooo problems with Adi now and followed him without any issues.

WhittyBitty 11-09-2014 11:11 PM

Finished with the bath, Lux gave Mr. Hippogriff head rubs until he let out a squawk. It caused her to laugh because he was really enjoying all the attention and was so adorable. She wished she could have a hippogriff of her own, but knew it was impossible. Oh well, at least she could go to the stables and visit them and the winged horses.

"You are doing amazing, but bath time is over now." He needed to get out of the pool so that the bottom part of him could dry off; didn't do much good when he was still partly submerged in the water. After giving a few more head rubs, Lux gently patted his hindquarters. That got him moving. "Good job," she said as she coaxed him out of the water. Once that was done, he got some more head rubs. Now it was time for her to comb his feathers.

Cleaning the comb with Scourgify, she gently ran it over Mr. Hippogriff's feathers while saying things of encouragement to him because he was being so good. It didn't take too long all things considered, and he was soon all dry with the help of the sun.

Calmly she slowly urged him out of the pen, and he followed with no great difficulty. "Great job!"

MAJOR catching up Post 3 + the catching up

Cinna smiled and took a few steps toward the Hippogriff. Reaching her hand out to pet him. She rubbed his neck. "Hey there buddy. I'm Cinna." She grinned and gently ruffled up his feathers. "You need a name don't cha? A proper name. Mmmm I like Hippie." Naming things was one thing that she was terrible. She named her pet duck quackers. So yeah. But the thought that this name was one of her best. "Hippie the Hippogriff. Sir Hippie the Hippogriff. Hello there Sir Hippogriff."

She continued petting him until she got the next instructions. These things were no scary at all. As long as you know how to handle them.

Cinna grabbed a brush and cleaned it. She placed her hand on hippie and give him a nice pet "Sir Hippie, I'm going to give you a nice coat brushing. Okay?" Hope he didn't mind. She started brushing him. Brushing in one direction slow strokes. She kept going at this rate until she heard Hippie let out a squawk. She started brushing faster. Let's get those bugs and dirt off of this guy.

After she was done brushing Hippie she went over and emptied the contents of the bucket. Now it get him over to the pool for his bath. Yeah. That was going to be fun. "Hey, Hippie. Look at that pool over there." She petted that back of his neck. "we're going to her it okay?" She lead him over to the pool. Still petting him and giving him a pep talk.

Once she lead him into the pool she patted the top of his head. "Good boy." She added the wash half of the bottle went in the pool. She took the other half of the bucket. With her
wand a he filled the bucket half way as she was told. "Aguamenti!"

She took the sponge, squeezed the extra water off. Starting from Hippies head she moved down using the sponge washing him. "You are such a good boy, Hippie." She grinned at him. She continued washing him until she hadn't missed a spot.

Cinna took the other sponge and started doing the same thing with this sponge dry. This was taking quite a long time to finish. After she was done she let Hippie get all air dried.

More coaxing happened, "Come on, Hippie. You're such a good boy." She maybe cooing over the creature now. Maybe. Could she take him home?

She took the comb vas cleaned the comb. She started combing his feathers after he was a dry. The feathers soon got back to its fluffiness. This seem like it was taking even longer than waiting for him it dry. Once she was done she started to lead him out of the pen. "Come on, Hippie. You ready to have some real fun?" She was. Coaxing him out if the pen by pets and sweet talking to him. Once she was out of the pen with him, she waited by Sir Hippie.

Steps 3-5

Not only was this lesson terrible in all sense because she didn’t want to be here but it was also going way too quickly and she wanted out of here now. She was too busy sizing the Hippogriff up, making sure to keep track of its every movement and also momentarily drawing her attention away to watch what the other students were doing. Now they had to bathe, dry and comb the bloomin’ things and it was really starting to get on Layla’s nerves.

With a sigh she did exactly as the Professor had told them to do. She guided the creature into the bath not saying a word to it but trying a reassuring smile. No blinking or whatever. Face to face. She had already poured the liquid into the pool for its hooves or talons and allowed the hippogriff to get comfortable before she proceeded.

She took the bucket and poured in the wash stuff muttering ‘aguamenti’ as she had finished. The bucket filled with water and she wrinkled her nose a little in protest. Once the water was halfway she swished it a little making sure that it was diluted and not thick. She dunked the sponge in the bucket and headed towards the horse thing, gently stroking it starting from the head. “You could’ve evolved to be able to wash yourself you know?” she sighed feeling a little mad talking to a bird!horse that couldn’t reply back to her. She got to the end having covered the entire creature in the wash when she picked up the next sponge and wiped off any excess moisture. It took her a fair amount of time and she was sure most people had probably finished way before she had.

Onto the final step (hopefully), at least it was the final step that the professor had told them meaning she had actually caught up. She patted the hind of the Hippogriff lightly, encouraging it out of the bath and smiling a little when it did. She picked up the fine toothed comb and began brushing the feathers out, gently making sure that she didn’t pull. She stood back a bit as she waited for the creature to dry off completely.

Her arms folded across the chest as she waited for the next instruction. RUN?! Taking them for a run? Oh great.

Catching up

More instructions were given and Jasmine moved on to the next step. She took the bottle of liquid and poured it into the bucket. "It's bath time Buddy. Just as soon as I get things ready, we'll get you all clean.". Taking out her wand, Jasmine pointed at the bucket and said, "Aguamenti". She let the water pour from her wand until the bucket was half full. It looked a bit thick so she picked up her bucket and sloshed the liquid around until it looked just right. "Wouldn't want to hurt your feathers now would we?", Jasmine said.

Picking up one of the sponge blocks, Jasmine dipped it into the water. When it had absorbed enough water, she sqeezed out the excess. Then she took a brick and began to scrub Buddy's head. He seemed to like it and she continued to scrub. Following the Professor's lead, Jasmine worked her way toward the back of the Hippogriff using a downward motion. Ending with his legs, she stopped once she felt that she had cleaned Buddy sufficiently. "Are you doing OK, Buddy?" Jasmine hoped that he didn't mind all of the patting and brushing and washing that had been going on.

Jasmine then picked up the dry sponge and began to retrace her steps. Going over the Hippogriffs entire body with it, she tried to remove as much residual water as possible. When finally Jasmine finished her washing and drying steps, she allowed Buddy to air dry the rest of the way. Hopefully his feathers would dry in a timely fashion.

Just as Jasmine finished, Professor Thompson began to explains what they should do next. It was time to get Buddy out of the pool. "You hear that? It's time to get out of the pool. Come on my friend, let's get out of here so we can finish up." Buddy cooperated and made his grand exit.

Jasmine got the fine tooth comb and prepared to clean it. "Scourgify", she said as her wand moved over the comb. Once it was sufficiently clean, Jasmine used it on the Hippogrif. She combed until his feathers were nice and smooth. Buddy was definitely clean and after a bit of a wait, he seemed dry. "Buddy, you've been such a good boy. Now we're going to take a little walk" Jasmine once again gave him a little pat and this time he responded right away. Continuing to to talk to him encouragingly, she led Buddy out of the pen.

Catching up for the last two steps

Were she a little less level headed at the moment, Alexa might have started fancying herself as some sort of Hippogriff whisperer. It took shear talent to get it to follow her into the pool the way she did and what's even more it was staying there in the pool; no plans at escaping. Clearly they had an understanding with each other by now, clearly and for not making her look bad infront of everyone, it earned itself some more brushing and petting and praises.

What? It was a good Hippogriff.

With the next set of instructions, Lex, poured out the remainder of the bucket and cast a quick "Aguamenti." to dilute it. Skimmed milk sounded familiar, despite it not being a regular at the Cambridge house so the Gryffindor had enough sense to know when to stop pouring the water and when to give it a little stir to make it the right texture. "Gotta take care of your feathers or else we'll both be falling out of the sky." That is...if they made it into the sky in the first place...so yeah, she'd try getting this right the first time.

Lex grabbed the sponge that was meant for scrubbing, dipped it quickly in the water then began scrubbing, being sure to get all the places. Had to get around the neck, along the shoulders, the feet were super important too--and in all this the Hippogriff cooperated. She assumed this was because it knew what was good for it but really it could just have been enjoying the bath.

Scrub scrub scrub.

Was that everywhere? Lex took a step back to get a better look. From what she could see, it looked pretty legit so....yeah, she was done and grabbed the other sponge to begin removing the moisture. A little here, some spots over there, right under the arm. This was harder than it looked okay, and she had to be THOROUGH.

Finally, with the last wipe taken, she was done.

"Alright bud, Professor Thompson said you gotta get out of the pool now." She...was just going to ....um...pretend the Hippogriff wasn't giving her disappointed looks and standing firmly where it was. "No no, not stay, no stay, never stay. Get out of the pool." This was worse than when she was forced to give her little sister a bath and the creature would demand extra time in the water. Lex wouldn't be having it.

"Come on now, you don't wanna stay in there." She began rubbing along its neck, trying to be soothing. "We're gonna be flying soon. You like flying, don't you? Of course you do...that's it...now the other leg, you're doing good." Little by little she watched the Hippogriff abandoned the mini pool, giving a little shake as it did.

"Brilliant." Just had to get her wet too, didn't it? Lex reached for the comb and wasted no time at all getting the feathers combed out. Why? Because the sooner this was done was the sooner they could FLY. Poor thing was lucky she didn't yank away at the comb in her eagerness to get going, because yes, believe it or not, she WOULD. Just so happened that at this moment she remembered her patience and was able to calmly comb at the feathers until they looked pretty decent.

As for the waiting...let's all pretend Lex didn't use a hot air charm to dry the Hippogriff, yeah? No one saw anything and they were moving on. "Let's go join the others."

Holmesian Feline 11-10-2014 02:54 AM

Major catch-up

Alright, so Angel was good with handling the bottle of soap it appeared to be. That left leading their hippogriff and handling his cleaning directly on him. "Want to come with me?" he mused as he continued to brush the creature in their care. "Make you feel good and clean." The fourth year moving backwards towards the pool very slowly stopping every few moments to entice the hippogriff with more brushing and touching. Doing his best to keep his interest and work with them.

"Pour it into the pool," Benny quietly told Angel over his shoulder, his eyes and attention always remaining on the half-eagle, half horse that was slowly but surely coming that way with him...thankfully. "That's a good hippogriff. We'll have fun soon." Just tiding up before hand so everyone was happy. At least he believed his charge to at least be content as he could get nothing more than the occasional squawk on contentment in answer to his own more-frequent-than usual words.

Finally his ankles touched against the edge of the pool and he stepped around it, guiding the hippogriff from the side. It took some harder coaxing but eventually the creature was inside and the bubbles were around the hooves and talons of their feathered companion. Hopefully that was the hardest step in the whole process.

Working to catch up, Benny took the bucket and carefully removed his wand, wary not to startle the hippogriff. "Aquamenti," he cast after allowing Angel to add the remainder of the soap to the bucket as directed, the older Gryffindor filling it up and letting it thin up. When that was done, he proceeded to dig his sponge in and scrub the hippogriff, carefully to certainly do the spots Angel might be afraid to do like his head or feet.

Scrub...scrub...scrub.

Pat...pat...pat.

"You like that...don't you?" The hippogriff certainly seemed to. Unfortunately all too soon it was time to get the creature out of the pool to dry off. Uh oh...this might be the hardest part. "Come on boy," Benny coaxed. A bit more rubbing and some all around playing around, including getting a little wet and he was out. Cleaning the brush with a quick, "Scourgify," the fourth year proceeded to comb him out until he was even more majestic and handsome than before.

"Angel...why don't you try and lead our friend here out," he suggested. The hippogriff was quite calm and willing at this point. Surely it wouldn't be trouble. And he'd be walking with them as well for any extra coaxing that might be needed.

Felixir 11-10-2014 03:23 AM

Welp. Time to get out of the pool.

"C'mon Monty," Toby said, turning to his hippogriff (HIS hippogriff) again. "You heard the man. Time to get out and get all dry."

For a while, there was no movement. Just a super relaxed hippogriff squinting back at him, very obviously quite comfortable and not willing to move. Toby wondered about tagging on a 'pleeeeeeease?' to his statement, but just as he opened his mouth to do so there came a sloshing from beside him; Monty was standing up. Tobias gave a great smile, and gestured with his head for Monty to step on out, even did that weird tongue-clicking thing like when you're trying to persuade a pet to come closer and love you.

But Monty wasn't having any of it, was just stood that. With a teeny sigh, but still smiling pleasantly enough, Toby stepped closer again to give some cajoling feather ruffles to the hippogriff.

"C'mon Monty," the Hufflepuff said again, though quieter this time, in his secret-sharing voice. "After I comb you you'll get to go for a run. I know you'd like that." How did Toby know? He just diiiiiid. Hippogriff whisperer as well as fairy whisperer, obviously.

Maybe it was the feather ruffling, maybe it was the tone of Toby's voice, but Monty did indeed step forward out of the pool. Awesome.

"Brilliant, Monty. Thank you."

Now holding onto the comb, Toby spared a moment to stroke Monty's feathers again and assess how dry they were, before he began carefully going over alllllllllll the feathers. He was being painstakingly careful, trying to ensure that no feather was left unturned, and they were all obviously going in the right direction. Monty was quite a bit bigger than him, so it took rather a long time.

But eventually he was done; Monty's feathers (ALL of them) were combed through and smooth and this was one fancy schmancy looking hippogriff. Tobias was so tired by this point; he'd not been this active in a few weeks now, so it was a lot to suddenly be doing. He paused and stood by, taking a moment to regroup and watching the other students for the time being.

After a decent enough time standing around, which also served as providing Monty with more feather-drying time, Toby went around the hippogriff making extra sure it was totally dry. Finding that this was the case (after triple checking, because he wanted to be extra super duper 100% sure), Tobias reached up to stroke the feathers behind Monty's head again.

"Right, let's head on outside, yeah?"

Tobias took the return squawk to mean 'yeah sure, Tobes, let's do that, that sounds cool' and began to carefully and slowly navigate his way through the enclosure and out of the pen, leading the hippogriff. All the way he kept murmuring to Monty, and looking up to meet those orange eyes from time to time. Manners, y'know? Soon enough they were outside the pen, finding a space far enough away that they were slightly removed from the others, but still close enough to hear any instructions that Thompson might caught out. Right now though? Tobias was back to chatting away at Monty, who was loving the attention as Toby was stroking away at those feathers.

This was more than just a bath for them.

After Kace was done cleaning his hippogriff he could now coax his hippogriff Charlene. He needed to get her out of the pool to let her lower half dry properly. He went to her and pet her. "Hey girl we need to get out of the pool..." he told her honestly. She shook her head and didn't wanna get out. He saw Professor Thompson tap his behind and maybe Kace needed to be more assertive. He tried it, "Come on Charlene..." he coaxed and tapped her behind a few times and now this time she got out. She understood his command. "Good girl.." Kace smiled and pet her head. He went to find his comb and began to brush her feathers. She seemed to like it. He began smoothing them out and did a few strokes.

He heard the next set of the professor's instructions and heard he needed to bring Charlene to the pen. He smiled and told her, "Alright girl we are going to pens, we may even let you stretch your wings what do you say?" he asked her sweetly. Her eyes widened and she nodded and snuggled into his hand that was already petting her. He laughed and guided her towards the pen. He was quite excited to ride her. This is what he was waiting for.

Charely Potter 11-10-2014 06:59 AM

After patiently waiting until all the students with their freshly groomed Hippogriffs were out. Professor Thompson went on to address them, "Right. Now that they're dry enough and bonded quite well with you all, they should be more than willing to give you a ride." But then to those hesitate on getting on them, "Or at least enjoying your company." Now then, "Since they've been relaxing for a while, it's about time they stretch their wings and getting mobile. So we'll be having a little race.."

"First thing, you'll want to hop onto them, so just like how they soaked into the pool stroke and pat them lightly." As Javier just did, giving Henry some nice strokes and ruffles before patting him to kneel downward. "Once you've managed to swing one leg over them after climbing up, press your whole torso against them while they rise up." Which he then did so. It was a little startling at the speed they rose up, but not enough to showcase on Javier's face. Waiting until enough have followed example, "Up ahead is a marked finish line, but of course some obstacles. You can choose to ride and jump over the logs up ahead without taking off into the air or should you fly them and have a challenge with keeping them on course and away from any delicious looking birds."

Now why should they participate in the race? "The first three to cross the finish line will earn some extra points." Sounds nice doesn't it? "To have them take off in the air, just lightly click your two feet against it's hind. It might make a noise, but will take off. When you want to land, pressing your body against it long enough will have it lower. From then on just like on the ground, constant praising after directing them will suffice. To have them run off but stay on the ground, patting the backhind near the tail will do it." Now were they ready? "Annnnnd... Go!" Because he was as he lightly clicked the sides of his feet onto the Hippogriff making it squawk at a certain volume before taking a few steps before flying into the air. "See you all at the finish line."

---
As instructed, it's now a race to the end. You can either ride your Hippogriff on land or in the air. Both will have their challenges from directing to avoiding distracting animals and objects.

- Race your Hippogriff to the finish line. -
+ If staying on the ground: Patting the backhind will send them off. There are logs and worms on the ground, which they will happily enjoy unless persuaded well enough to move on.
+ If flying in the air: Clicking feet against the hind will send them off. There are trees branches and birds on the ground, which they will happily enjoy unless persuaded well enough to move on.
+ If had already been partnered with someone: Alternate the commands and directions.
+ Use consistent commands and praises to direct them along as they may veer elsewhere.
+ Press body against them to stop and/or land them.

This should take five labeled posts to complete. You have until November 11th @ 11 pm (EST). =)

Last chance to full bathe your Hippogriff before the big run. As instructed Once they're fully clean and dry guide them outside the pen. Instructions on the run will be later on tonight. =)

It was funny how just when a question popped into his head that the answer was given. It was hard for a Hippogriff to dry when it was still in water, and so when he was instructed to coax Helios out of it, he was only too happy to do so.

"C'mon boy, time to get you proper dry," he said birghtly, cocking his head to the side by way of asking to beast to follow his lead. He waved his hands toward himself too, coaxing the beast nearer and patting him every time he came close enough.

Once completely out, Zeke took up the comb and started smoothing down his feathers. "It would feel weird flying with wet feathers, and we don't want them rumpling," he mused while he worked. Helios gave him a nod with his head, before then trying to shake himself off a bit.

...

Yeah, that helped. "Thanks bud."

SPOILER!!: MOAR Professor!

And zomg!!! zomg!!!! ZOMG! This was the BEST bit. This was going to be awesome!

Zeke was already stoked at having the opportunity to meet the Hippogriffs, name a Hippogriff and ride it, but RACE it... yeah, that was going to be as cool as frozen beans!

After watching the Professor and listening to his instructions, Zeke turned his attention back to Helios. "Reckon we can take them on?" he asked, stroking the beast down the neck and across the shoulder. Helios seemed to be fairly clued in, and soon his knees bent to lower himself to the ground. It was at this stage that Zeke gripped him behind the wing on the back to steady himself and with a little bit of effort managed to get a leg over to the other side of the beasts body... and then he had to right himself... or, he would have, had he been given the opportunity. Helios didn't bother waiting till he was ready before he started rising, leaving Zeke wobbling on his back though he was torso-flat on its back. "Whooaaaa. A bit of warning?" he stated once he composed himself, seated properly on the beast now.

"Ready boy?" he asked to fill the void, it seemed as if he was itching to get going, just as eager as him to feel the wind, the speed.. were they going to gallop or fly??? He was open to both, but was DYING to fly. At the word GO, Zeke clicked his heels against Helios' hindquarters, and WWWOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHH!!!! They were off!!!

The power, was immense, the thrill, was amazing... and here they went!

"Weeeeeeeeeheeeeeeeeee!" Zeke called, holding on tight to keep on right. "C'mon Helios!"

Oh, they were going to have a Hippogriff race. Cool. Jasmine hoped that Buddy would be up for the challenge. She had a feeling that he might be a bit competitive.....so that was good. However, knowing Professor Thompson, the course wouldn't be easy. Flashback to last year's race through the snow.

Turning to the Hippogriff, Jasmine began to talk to him. "Buddy, I need to take you for a little ride. We're going to have a race with the other Hippogriffs. It should be a lot of fun. Are you game?" Jasmine could have sworn that the animal nodded his head. Was he agreeing to the task? Jasmine sure hoped so because she clearly could not do this without his cooperation. "I need for you to let me climb onto your back."

Jasmine took Buddy's stare as an OK and patted him on the head. Then she gave him a firm pat on the rump and a pleading look. He understood her, right? Of course he did because he began to kneel, allowing Jasmine to attempt to climb aboard. She clearly had the smartest animal of the bunch.

Now it was time for the fun part. Jasmine tried to swing her leg over Buddy's back. This was no easy task because she was a tad vertically challenged. After a couple of false starts, Jasmine somehow managed to hoist herself onto the Hippogriffs back. After seeing Professor Thompson mount Henry, she knew that she had better get into position quickly. Jasmine leaned forward and flattened herself against Buddy's neck, holding on for dear life. It was not a moment too soon because he immediately rose to his feet. Once they were up, Jasmine repositioned herself so she was as comfortable as possible. "Good boy Buddy", Jasmine said while giving him a pat. This was going to be an adventure.

#2 birdy distractions!

They were going higher, and higher, REALLY quickly. And for a moment, Zeke forgot there was even a race going on. He was too amazed by the view of the grounds and the lake and the castle and the clouds and the forest and EVERYTHING from up here looked amazing. "Wooooooooow... this is, awesome," he managed to get out while the wind whipped his face and his hair into a frenzy.

He could see some of the others below, running, and some others, flying... and THAT was when he remembered they were racing. "Good boy, Helios!" he encouraged, giving him an encouraging tap on the hind with his heels again.

It was going smoothly, until they dipped a bit...

SQUAAWWWWKKK!

....

The sqwauking was one thing, but the sensation that followed was akin to having his stomach in his throat. Whop! He was alright though, and after the shock of the change of altitude wore off, he noticed WHY Helios had dipped. A bird. A crow?... whatever it was, it was going to cost him the win.
