The professor nervously checked his sundial watch again. He was used to these sorts of time sensitive matters, but every other time he had done them with a herd of students he hadn't been alone in making sure everyone was holding on to the portkey. He had had Medea around for that...who was unfortunately too busy to assist him this time around.

Breathe, Flamsteed. Breathe. It would be okay...

As long as no one loosened their grip and let go before they should and therefore got plopped somewhere never to be found again. But other than that!

Which he took for himself. Now...where were his seventh years... "Miss Guidry, you hold on to the wooden spoon, please," he said as he handed it over to the prefect. "Miss Cambridge, you hold on to the chocolate bar shaped doggie chew toy." And thus it was handed over. "Everyone else, get to a portkey and hold on to it TIGHT. We will be departing in 45...44....43 seconds...42...Miss Cooper, you come stand by me...38...37..."

OOC: Some of you may have used this wizarding money converter to reach your 1 galleon response or came to the conclusion from HP wiki. Who knows how money will look in the year 2085, so I played with a bit of numbers and used the method described in this article just for funsies. Just as the pound's and dollar's value fluctuates, so too does the galleon. Weeeeeeeee MATH! It's all just for a bit of IC fun

Ian heard the professor respond to the questions about muggle money. Ian's mum had sent him a little as well when she knew he was going to a museum. His mum really enjoyed them and wanted him to have a good time.

It was almost time to go. Ian felt flutterbies in his belly as he thought of the excitement of portkeying. He didn't get a chance to apparate, so this was the next best thing and he...was...pumped. He went and grabbed onto the chocolate bar thingy and waited as the professor began to countdown. He DID NOT want to miss the chance to do this.

One ticket and money. All safe and secure for their usage in the place they were going. That was kind of the school to make sure of that. He looked over as he was nudged and nodded at Adi's suggestion. They would be buddies for the trip. Though he supposed they might need to keep an eye on their other halves, at least with the involvement of portkeys. Benny was fairly certain as muggleborns they were quite safe in the behavior within the muggle world having grown up there.

Paying attention to the correct answers and the information Professor Flamsteed was giving them all to be prepared for what was to come, Benny felt ready when the man instructed them towards the portkeys. He'd be sticking near the professor since Angel seemed to want to stay by him and he was nearby. "Quickly take hold of some part of the kazoo," he instructed in case she didn't catch Flamsteed's rush. Countdown was a little close but Benny grabbed hold with time to spare.

FINALLY!

As Flamsteed began the countdown, Adi followed the bestie and grabbed a hold of the same portkey. Come on time...A little faster please. Hehe. No way was he going to be left back here. Nope.

So...any second now they'd be disappearing from the classroom, yeah?

She'd been waiting for Lottie to get here, like seriously, Astronomy or not she was going nowhere without the Hogwartian when you considered her other choices for company. They were probably really fine people and you know what? They might have been the life of any party but the Gryffindor was having none of it. They'd have each other so it was only fair she had her bestfriend. Thankfully the arm around her shoulder fixed this.

"I know!" It was almost an excited squeal but no worries, she was composed so it was more a loud whisper. "Reckon if we walk fast enough we can even pretend we're not a part of the group. Then it'll be like we really are free, even for a little bit." Which sounded like a solid plan to her. Airey could tag along with them but the others were iffy and reminded her it was still only a field trip and she was not in fact free.

"Should be epic." And she was ready. Could you tell????



It shouldn't have really been a surprize that she didn't know the conversion rates for the pound versus their own galleon. Lex didn't pay attention to the value of money, she was much too busy spending it with ease so of course the Gryffindor stood listening while the others took guesses at it. In the end they weren't right. Good thing she didn't bother trying, yeah? Her father sometimes paid attention to the stock exchange market and the money conversion system but she'd never asked him to share. Didn't need him to. All she had to do was collect the money she needed and be on her way.

What on earth could have been more simple?

Oh and they were getting money to buy stuff with??? Was there candy at the space station? Space candy maybe? A wise investment if it existed and now she had to find out. The day would be lost if she didn't.

"On it Professor." She said nicking the chocolate bar styled item from the table--shame it wasn't real though good because she'd have eaten it then there'd have been no trip--and extended it to Lottie to grab hold. Others could ride with them too....she supposed....but really this was her and Lottie's trip, see?

KFC? Could they stop in one? Because he wouldn't say no to a burger or some fried chicken. Or some chips, even. And what kind of food was the Space Centre even going to HAVE? Cheesy space food?

Wait. Portkey time?

Stuffing the £5 back into his envelope, the fifth year headed over towards Lex to take the portkey because he trusted HER the most. And the last time he took one of these bad boys, he had fallen flat on his bottom and clearly, that kind of embarrassment couldn't be had in front of just anyone. Besides, Lottie was here too. HEEEEEEY.

So, grabbing onto one end of the chocolate bar doggie chew toy -- this hadn't been USED, had it? -- Grayson waited.

Kace gave the paper money a quizzical look. It didn't look like the american dollar he was used to seeing back at home. He heard the professor's question about currency and he didn't even know about it. He was quite weak in the math subject. He heard the other student's answers and understood. He got free muggle money from the teacher! He was quite happy with that. He put the 5 euros in his pocket for safe keeping. Then he heard they were gonna be using the portkeys!

Kace heard the choices and he went over to where Grayson and Lexa were. "Hey guys.." he greeted them. He grabbed hold of it since they would be leaving quite soon. He wondered why Airey picked a doggie chew toy couldn't he have gotten anything better?

Cinna opened the envelope cool what Muggle money? Check Boucher? Check. Pick a porkey? Getting to one now. She bopped her way over to the doggie chew toy. The head girl was already there along with Kace and Grayson.

"Hey, guys." She said as safe put her hand on the dog chew toy. Interesting choice for a porkey. If it was just laying around and a dog picked it up would the dog get transported as well? Who knew? It was taking them to the muggle museum right? Not somewhere else? Professor Airey wouldn't do that. Thank goodness he wasn't professor hook still. And she wasn't cinderella anymore. Weird school or mmm book.

Eeep, it was time for them to go. Lux knew that this was going to be a lot of fun. She'd never been on a field trip before since she was still too young to go on the ones during summer, though that would change soon since she was going to be 15 in June.

Since she was already standing by Jasmine, she took a tight hold of the portkey her friend was holding.

He was with the right people, obviously, but Lottie hoped he didn't think the smile was an invitation to tag along. He was a big boy and could go with the others as soon as they arrived at their destination.

Same goes for Kace. And Cinna, she supposed.

Okay. Whenever you're ready Flamsteed. He was more than free to leave people behind, she didn't care.

"Actually I have," Goldilocks beamed at the man and tucked a curly lock of hair behind her ear. Star of the story was a pretty blonde girl who had an affinity for breaking and entering. Stealthy little thing, she was. Hehe.

What exactly was a portkey? She wasn't sure but apparently they were a means of transportation. Probably much faster than skipping all the way to the space centre. Goldilocks particularly liked the kazoo. Perhaps she could just pocket it-

"Goldilocks, Sir." He really was quite forgetful, the suited man. She'd already corrected him once! And she didn't need looking after! Truly. The best adventures were had without adult super vision, didn't he know?

Turning her attention to the freckled boy by her side, she smiled sweetly and motioned towards the professor person. "I'd be so delighted if you joined me." And then she skipped off to stand by the older man's side, making sure to grab on to the portkey thing. This was going to be fun!

WAIT.A.MINUTE. A portkey could be several different things? It was safe to say that AJ was confused. Why would ordinary muggle things be used to get around? This was weird, interesting, and exciting all at the same time.

Did somebody say chocolate something or other? AJ knew that you couldn't actually eat it, but she still wanted that particular portkey. It made it even better considering her very own prefect was over it.

The countdown started, and AJ rushed over to the portkey and held on to it. She wondered what it felt like to travel by the chew toy. Would it have her belly feeling like it did when she rode a rollercoaster? EEP!

TIME FOR THE LESSON to start. Or rather, ALMOST time for them to LEAAAVE. This was just--GAH. She got to LEAVE school--and wear muggle clothes--SO FUN. When he said to gather around--she approached slowly and smiled at Layla as she made an appearance--WHOOOH. She liked that he was giving them MONEY. Hehehehe. That was very nice of him. Especially since many of the purebloods wouldn't even know what that was and stuff.

Eden didn't know the conversions off the top of her head, though, so she just stared down at her money and siiiiighed. She should probably learn that for future reference--it would be helpful. She thought even her mother knew that, yes.

And noooooow PORTKEY TIME. Eden had only ever used a portkey once--she very much preferred floo. She hated the feeling of portkeying--whatever. This was the only way they'd get anywhere with this amount of people, yes. She would probably spend her money on food and a small item. No need to buy something extravagant or anything. She glanced at Layla and Thorny--did they want to stick with her? Did they want to...ditch her? Whatever suited their fancy. But Eden was perfectly okay with the firstie AND her dormie. HEHHE.

Exactly! No pressure at ALL! Kyroh beamed at the man and turned his attention back to Maddie with the curly hair. Huh. Reaching for a strain of his hair as she leaned against him he gently tugged it. It wasn't straight, and that was NEW.

As for the money? The second year had no clue. His parents handled the Muggle money. He supposed he should know more about it. It would be his new MISSION, yeah?

Well, his third new mission.

His first would be figuring out what to do now that the Professor had stolen his buddy. And his second would be figuring out why said buddy was calling herself....Goldilocks?

Like the bears?

He couldn't worry about ANY of that now though because the count down was ON. So quickly Kyroh rushed over beside Maddie-locks and the Professor and placed his hand on the portkey.

After the discussion about muggle money had concluded, it was almost time to leave. Jasmine checked her envelope and everything seemed to be in order. It looked like she was all set. She could not wait for this trip to begin. It was going to be so fantastic.

They would be taking portkeys to the Space Center. Unfortunately that was not exactly Jasmine's favorite mode of travel, but what could she do? Professor Flamsteed handed her the wooden spoon and she grabbed hold of it. Holding the spoon out so that others could share, Jasmine waited for the countdown.

Angel looked at the Professor as he said she could. "Thanks Professor." Angel didn't want him becoming crazy and scaring all the muggles so she was going to take one for the team and keep her eye on the Professor. She then turned to her boyfriend and smiled at him. She hoped that he wouldn't be cross with her for doing this but she had her reason and she would explain them to him later.

Angel then heard what Benny said and she grabbed hold of the item, this was going to be one interesting trip.

Valiant. That was good, right? Didn't it mean, like... brave? Was Airey going all Gryffindor on him? ... Well, actually, yeah that would make a lot of sense. Toby didn't know for definite (and if he did, he'd forgotten) but Airey had most likely been a Gryffindor. Or a Ravenclaw, but Gryffindor was most likely.

He was getting carried away with his own thoughts though, and Airey was already going on about the exchange rate and stuff. Toby blinked, and did his best to refocus on the lesson, but then... Airey was alrEADY COUNTING DOWN.

Toby blinked and started forward to grab onto a portkey. He instinctively went for the one Airey was holding, the kazoo, and made sure to get a good hold on it.

About a galleon was right, unsurprisingly, but Soph was still much happier to hear it confirmed than she should have been - Flamsteed was totally impressed with her, wasn't he? He... still thought the same of her as he did before? Everything was still good?

She would keep reassuring herself of that.

As the professor started counting down, Sophie excitedly tucked everything back into her envelope and into her bag, then instinctively reached for Tobes' hand - but he was already moving across the room to get to the professor's portkey. WELP. Soph hurried along after him, throwing her bag over her shoulder along the way, and, when she reached the group huddling around the kazoo and grabbed on, too, Soph offered them all smiles. They had picked the RIGHT portkey, obviously, as they were going to end up right with Flamsteed, Maddie, and Kyroh, even if some tragic accident happened and they ended up somewhere they didn't intend to go.

Like Neverland or something.

Dot had NO CLUE how much her money was worth, although she knew now it was a little more than a galleon and she was mentally calculating what she could buy with a galleon. Was it really really money, though? It was paper and felt so light and temporary and faaaaake. How could it be worth as much as one of their big old galleons?

She tucked the paper into her envelope as she sidled up to Lex and her portkey. Yup. Going with Lexorlexa. She'd be unlikely to die with protection from Queen Gryffindor person. Dot threw an arm around the girl and her other hand on the portkey. "Hullo."

Maths...eh. Astronomy was much more fun than maths stuff any day. Norah slipped her five pound note back into the envelope and faced Professor Flamsteed once more.

OOOH! Portkey time! Norah spotted Lex by a big squishy chocolate bar and skipped over to stand next to her. "Hiii!" she whispered, bouncing on her toes as she reached out to touch the portkey. Yayayay! Adventure time!

Zander was still so super embarrassed about showing up in a suit. It wouldn't have been that bad if the others showed up in one too... But he was the only one. Besides the Professor, but that wasn't anything new. So it wasn't surprising when he didn't answer the first question. He knew all about muggle money transaction thingies because, well, he came from a muggle family so he had to take care of that stuff every time he visited Diagon Alley. After the first few times he pretty much figured out the conversions. Not that confusing actually.. Nothing like Arithmancy or even potions.

Instinctively, he started running towards the wooden spoon because it sounded like a good plan and Jasmine was a Ravenclaw so she'd know what she was-- Lux. Okay so NOT the spoon. But his seconds were being counted down!! WHICH ONE TO GO TO??

PROFESSOR FLAMSTEED, WATCH OUT! The lion doubled back and ran towards the group with his Professor and... were they supposed to grab a piece? OKAY well, he's got the end bit!

So yeah. Heather had already been calculating just how much she should ration for lunch when the question about the money had been asked. Though, she really didn't think it mattered much, since where they were going the prices would all be in pounds and such. It was an interesting little lesson though.

Oh, they were leaving now? Ok. She hurried over to Professor Airey, since she didn't really know the other two well enough to trust them with her safety, and placed a finger on the Portkey. What? A finger would be enough, plus there were other kids that needed to have a finger/hand on it too.

Ready.
