Astronomy Lesson 3 :: Field Trip to the National Space Centre
The Astronomy classroom looks a bit more vacant than usual as all the chairs are stacked neatly on each desk with their legs sticking upwards. The windows are closed to keep the chilly winds out and the professor's desk at the front of the room has an array ofstrangethings placed upon it. There is also a backpack sitting on the desk next to a stack of museum pamphlets. A box of brown envelopes with each student's name written upon them in Professor Flamsteed's slightly illegible handwriting is not too far away. The chalkboard behind the desk simply reads:
Quote:
Take a pamphlet and envelope each.
Please give your permission slip to the professor.
Portkey in half an hour.
Professor Flamsteed, back in a suit, is standing beside the chalkboard with a nervous smile upon his face as he hums to himself while waiting for students to file in.
Did you remember to use the lint roller on the small table outside of the classroom? It was there next to the sign that reads, "Not to be used as a brush for your hair" and has the signature of a former student in the bottom right corner.
So come on in and get ready to boldly go where no has gone before!

OOC: There is no permission slip format or actual form graphic provided, so no need to worry that you have missed something just be sure to include handing it over in your RP post! A reminder that you do NOT need to have done lesson 2's homework to participate (Due November 2nd *cough* hint *cough*).
Also, please keep in mind that while this is the last OOC lesson of the term I will host, it is NOT the last lesson IC as it is only March IC when this lesson takes place
Kace was quite excited to go on this field trip. He was dressed in his muggle clothes. He got his permission slip signed by his mother and she told him to have fun. Kace loved the idea of space and learning about the stars. As he approached somewhat early for the class he saw other students were in here too. He wasn't the only one who wanted to arrive early. He looked around for his friends and he saw some and he smiled to them and waved. He looked to the front of the room and saw the professor. "Good morning Professor Airey, nice idea to have a field trip today."
He examined the objects on the table and took a pamphlet. He thought the objects were sort of weird. He waited to hear the next set of directions. He wondered where Emmy and Cinna were? As he was looking around he sat down and waited for everyone else to get here.

FREAKING FIELD TRIP!
Grayson was WELL excited for this. Had double and triple checked his permission slip as well because he didn't want to reach this point only to be told to boot it and that he couldn't come along on the trip. Not when he'd voluntarily woken up at the crack of dawn just to get here on time. THAT was what you called dedication.
De-linted his muggle clothes and a wide smile spread across his face, the fifth year headed into the Astronomy classroom and STRAIGHT towards he professor. No weird Captain's clothing? So he was back to normal, then? GOOD. Though, Grayson had thoroughly enjoyed watching him tell people to walk the plank for doing silly things. It had been a MUCH better waste of time than actually paying attention to what he had been saying.
"Good morning! Here," he said, holding out the form, "My permission form." Which was all signed and ready to go. And he was just gonna take one of these pamphlets and envelopes, mkay?
Field trip day, and Cinna was very excited. One she got to wear muggle clothes and two they got to get out if the castle and go on a real muggle like field trip. She made her way over to the astronomy tower from the great hall she wanted to make sure she had a good breakfast before they took off on the field trip. Rule one of field tripping was ever leave hungry.
She met the normal lint roller at the the door and used it before walking into the classroom. The chairs up well they obviously was going to have class today or be here long at all. She walked up the front of the room "Good morning, Professor Flamsteed! Excited about the field trip." She smiled and handed over the permission slip her dad had signed.
Turning to the people that were already there she walked over to Lux and Kace. Beaming as she approached them. She waved the Eden and Grayson as well. And Marigold got a wave and a small smile. Were they as excited as she was?

Would there be another food fight? As AJ made her way to the classroom, she could only think back fondly of the last lesson. Sure, it had been insane, but she had gotten away with hitting Ian in the face with a whole ham. How wicked was that?
Used to the lint roller by now, AJ rolled herself down and entered into the classroom. Field trips happened all the time at her old muggle school, but she had yet to go on one since she started at Hogwarts. The second year was excited.
"Hello, professor." Her permission slip was signed and ready to go. AJ handed it over to her head of house. She then picked up a pamphlet and an envelope. What the heck was a portkey?

Kyroh was EXCITED for the field trip okay? He was even wearing a bowtie to show how excited he was. As long as it wasn't a TRICK and the Professor was really going to bring them onto a ship to make them all walk the plank.
He couldn't do that....right?
Permission slip in hand the second year walked up to the man and thrust it in his face, smile. "My papa sighed the paper. And my mum had a letter saying stuff to make sure that you actually watched over me, but I sorta forgot that on purpose." He didn't want to be watched ALL the time, and Flamsteed wouldn't have to do it if he didn't real his mums words right?
Anywaays.
Walking over to the table he grabbed a chalet and took a while to find his name. THERE. HIS! Grabbing it he made his way over to Maddie. "You can sit on the floor!" It wasn't dirty or anything. He'd clean it for her if it was.

The first time Layla had attended Astronomy she had thoroughly enjoyed it. Since then it had gone slightly downhill when the Professor went bat crazy and now here she was walking to the lesson with little expectations.
But it would be a little different and a part of her underneath that frown etched across her lips was sort of excited for it.
The blonde had turned back to her usual grumpy self, she appeared a little cold on the exterior although the things that were running around in her head was the cause. She wasn’t divulging them with anyone, they were remaining up there tight and secret. She was straight faced as she followed the usual procedure and headed towards the classroom. She had her signed permission slip in her hand. The sixteen-year-old approached Flamsteed’s desk and handed over her permission slip to him. “Morning” she offered a weak and forced smile fully understanding the importance of being polite in this school. “Looking forward to being somewhere.. different.” Not really. Well sort of. She was looking forward to getting out of the castle.
She picked up a leaflet and the envelope which had ‘Layla Ackerly’ inscribed on it. She swivelled around on her feet and searched for someone to stand with. She still wasn’t particularly close to anyone in the school other than her dormmates and.. Vinnie so finding someone else in this small exclusive class was a difficult feat. Sighing she approached Eden and the kid next to her. “Hey” a half smile was sent in the brunette’s direction before nodding at her companion. Kid got a ‘half smile’ too because she wasn’t in the mood for proper smiles today.

Zander was SO ready for this field trip! He had signed permission slip in hand, smile on his face, AND was wearing a suit. Though, he didn't really understand why the last part was not optional, you know? The Gryffindor was even lucky that he had brought a suit with him in the first place!! But his mum seemed to insist every year, so it really wasn't his choice. But good thing he had it with him! What if he wasn't allowed to go because he wasn't in the proper attire, you know?
So when he first stopped before entering the classroom, he took his time to actually roll himself down well with the lint roller. His suit required more care than his normal school robes, of course. It said so on the tag or something like that... Or at least he assumed that it would. PFT, who actually reads things anymore? That's why comics were the best. Don't have to read the words to understand them.
Once he set the lint roller down in it's usual spot, he made his way into the classroom keeping an eye out for Professor--
O_________________________O
Wait a minute. How come no one else was wearing a suit?!!? Well, 'cept for the Astronomy Professor, but he ALWAYS wore them so it wasn't a surprise. Didn't the announcement board say wearing a suit is NOT optional?! As in you HAVE to wear one?! -_________- Merlin, how come this always happened?! A rather unamused Zander walked over to good ol' Professor to hand over his permission slip. "...Uh, Professor, how come no one else is wearing a suit?" he asked (cheeks turning a slight pink) as he handed over the paperwork. WHY?

Mainly because now she got the chance to be out of Hogwarts for a while. The change was very much welcomed, for real. If only it was permanent. OH WELL. Soon, very soon.
Pamphlet and everything was taken. Of age peeps need no permission slip, didn't anyone tell you, Airey Flamsteed?? Permission slip was pointless, she is of age. Seriously. But it was signed and handed over with the brightest smile possible! "Hello, Professor!" Someone was truly happy to leave this Castle for a bit, can't you tell?

Just a couple more months and she'd be as free as he was, as the rest of them were.
Needless to say she was all de-linted and ready for the field trip WHICH SHE WAS REALLY EXCITED FOR EVEN IF YOU COULDN'T TELL.
Only thing that dampened things was the fact it was by portkey and there was nothing she hated more when it came to transportation. If the Professor would TELL her exactly where they were going, she and Lottie could legally apparate there and wait on everyone else to arrive. Didn't that sound super easy and a perfect way for her to exercise her soon to be unrestricted power????
"Hey Professor." She said, dropping off the permission slip with the others.
Annnnnd... arm wrapped around her bestie's shoulder. "We get to leave. For a while. That's excellent!" This was super normal behavior for seventh years, of course. They all wanted to leave, no? Yup.

Adjusting his tie just a bit, Airey began to go over his mental checklist of everything he had packed in his backpack before moving on to what he, personally, hoped to accomplish this trip to the National Space Centre. He had just been there over the summer to help set up for the particular exhibition - all part of his duties as Astronomer Royal - and while he was bound to get a bit chocked up given the subject matter...he was more giddy than sad. Getting to relive your childhood dream for the day wasn't something to get all depressed over.

He couldn't be positive, but something was informing him that he needed to be very careful with his phrasing. And Merlin help him if the professor only ended up encouraging them to remove the boy from Hogwarts.
He also gave the boy's attire two thumbs up. Very professional looking. This astronut approved.
And the boy's permission slip went on to his desk.

Taking Miss Guidry's permission slip and setting it on top of Mr. Baines, he smiled the prefect and then instantly wondered where Miss Wright was. More often than not, it had been the seventh year who had looked after the younger Claw...and that service would most likely be needed again today. "Excellent, Miss Guidry. I certainly hope you find it informative."

After handing him the permission slip that she had labeled Astronomy field trip permission slip, National Space Centre, 7 March 2085, Penelope turned her attention to the words on the chalkboard. Grabbing a pamphlet and her envelope, she spotted Thornton at the edge of the room. She walked over to where the first year was. "Good morning, Thornton! Are you looking forward to the trip?"
Speaking of the fragile Ravenclaw...
"Good morning, Miss Wright," he beamed at the girl as he took the permission slip and set it on top of the rest. Yes yes, more excitement. Stellar to see! He noted that she headed towards Mr. Baines and felt a small sense of relief. He was a responsible young man, so between him and Miss Guidry the second year ought to survive the trip.

It was probably for the best that the astronomer had not seen the way Miss Wojack had rid the castle of an 8-legged freak just now. While not a man particularly fond of bugs and anything that crawled...it was also not the proper use of a lint rollers.
But he hadn't seen...and instead had the pleasure of dealing with what he could only assume was a threat from this Oggie person. "I am flattered this...Oggie is willing to spend upwards of 18,000,000 pounds on little old me," he chuckled. Space tourism was rather expensive, you know? Which meant that it would be more of a reward to allow something to happen to the young Slytherin - rolling with his dry sense of humor that is. "I hope you enjoy the trip today, Miss Wojack."

"Good morning, Miss Cambridge," he said to the Gryffindor as she handed over the permission slip. Not the usual spunky greeting he was used to, but he could only assume that seventh year-itis was setting in. Hopefully she could keep herself motivated through her NEWTs at least.

"Hello, Miss Kittredge! Stellar to see you are eager to start this little adventure." In fact, he mimicked her bouncing in place with some of his own as he set her permission slip on top of the others.

Airey found himself just blinking at Miss Brown's sudden change in behavior. Was it the thought of traveling by portkey that had her in a bit of a rut? It could be quite daunting if one had never traveled by it before. Actually...he probably should have told them not to eat breakfast before class and instead pack a small one to bring with them. He didn't imagine that the National Space Centre would appreciate a bunch of teenagers regurgitating their meals all over the pavement around back. Well, once the janitorial staff stumbled upon the mess anyway. No one would be present when they eventually landed.
"A happy day it is, Miss Brown!" he said with a bit more enthusiasm than the others. Mostly in the fleeting hope that some of his own gusto would transfer to her.
Was she feeling alright? Should they send for the Healer? He checked his sundial watch. Maybe not. Not enough time for that.

After skipping her way to the classroom, the girl was ever so tired and she took a moment to catch her breath. Going to school was even more tiring than picking wild flowers in the forest and that was saying something.
Bending down over the various envelopes, Goldilocks considered her options. That name there? Well it was far too hard to say. Oh and that one?! It was even more boring than Maddison was! It just wouldn't do. She guessed she'd have to settle on the one meant for the girl she'd found the permission slip for even though her name had so much more gusto.
"Oh how I wish there was a place for me to rest my feet," She exclaimed, handing over the slip of paper to the man she assumed was in charge. All the chairs being stacked sure posed a problem for her, that much was true. She guessed she'd simply have to go stand with one of the students. And so she did.
"Your permission slip, Miss Cooper," Airey said as he extended his hand towards her. He needed it in his hands to confirm it was more than just a spare piece of parchment, you see. He had tried that as a student for Hogsmeade. Waved a piece of parchment with scribbles on it because he had lost his original. Hadn't worked out so well.

Papa...OOOOOOOOOOOH PAPA!
For the second time Airey's throat suddenly ran dry at the name on the parchment - the first being for a Miss Emily Browne. Right. The older Scabior. Mr. Glares-A-Lot. Right. Well, now there were two...er...three parents who would definitely hex him into oblivion should things get messy. Maybe four.
"Thank you, Mr. Scabior," he said, swallowing and taking the permission slip. "No pressure, right?" Heh. Awkward.

"Good morning," he beamed, accepting the permission slip eagerly and setting it on top of the stack. "Good to see you, Miss Ackerly." Even if the Ravenclaw wasn't exactly oozing enthusiasm like some of her housemates. Getting out of the castle might do her some good.

OH! Well, look at this!
"Looking sharp there, Mr. Adair," Airey both saluted and winked at the Gryffindor. Stellar points to you! Which were better than the cool points that he had given out previously. In his brain. And once or twice out loud. "Everyone has a different understanding of what muggle clothing means. At least no one showed up in a flowered nightdress. The late Arthur Weasley was also known to wear a few unique choices of clothing. Not to worry, Mr. Adair. Your attire is perfectly acceptable."

But it was signed and handed over with the brightest smile possible! "Hello, Professor!" Someone was truly happy to leave this Castle for a bit, can't you tell?
...
"Good morning, Miss Wisteria," he beamed with a salute before taking her permission slip. That was one giddy looking Huf....Hogwartian.
Giving his sundial watch another quick glance, the astronomer's eyes widened. "Oh sweet solstice!" he exclaimed as he wiped his brow and scurried towards the front of his desk and picked up the envelope with his own name written on it.
"Alright everyone! Gather around!" he announced while clapping his hands together twice. Just in case, you know, they hadn't heard him. "We have about 15 minutes before our portkeys are scheduled to depart so I will make this brief. First, a few ground rules. We will be leaving the wizarding world and entering the muggle one today. This means ABSOLUTELY NO MAGIC will be allowed. Not even accidental. Keep it in your holster. "This also includes talking loudly about Magic in front of others. I am trusting you all to be on your best behavior so do not let me down."
Seriously. He may have nearly killed students in the past with tainted ice cream...and apparently was on the verge of it as Professor Hooksteed...but expelling someone. Sweet solstice. He would submit his resignation right away.
"We will touch down in a secluded area behind the National Space Centre and move about as a group. Under no circumstances is anyone to wander off on their own. Use the buddy system. And no, you do not need the same buddy the entire time. There is a lot to explore at the Centre."
Alright. Now that that was over.
"Now, I want everyone to check their envelopes for the following items. There should be an entry ticket to the National Space Centre along with one of these," he said as he lifted up a piece of rectangular paper. "This is a piece of muggle money. You are free to use it as you see fit at the Centre to buy something to eat or in the gift shop. We will arrive back at Hogwarts around 1500 hours, so plan accordingly. Now, can anyone tell me approximately how much this is worth in our, wizarding, currency?"

Soph was inevitably glad that Flamsteed hadn't made a big deal out of her strange greeting to him, but all in all, she supposed he owed her anyway after having been weird to her earlier in the term when he was Hooksteed. Now they were even.
She peered into her envelope as instructed when class began and sifted through the items, immediately taking a special interest in the bank note just as Flamsteed pointed it out to them, and she tried to catch Toby's eye as a belated thought to the professor's mentioning of the buddy system.
Wouldn't he be her buddy?
At the professor's question, Soph raised a hand to answer. THIS Ravenclaw knew enough about Muggle money, having had to convert it loads of times before for various outings, and she peeked at the number '5' on the money before speaking up, "Five pounds is worth about a galleon to us, professor, isn't it?"
Norah grinned at Professor Flamsteed, bouncing along with him. HOORAY FOR EXCITEMENT! Fifteen whole minutes? That wasn't for aaaaages. The second year fidgeted in her muggle clothes as the professor explained all the rules. Yawn.
And then they were looking at money! Perking up, Norah pulled out the muggle bill and held it close to her nose, inspecting all the colors. She noted the very cool crown on the lady on the paper's head, and listened to Professor Flamsteed's question. The bill looked different than the kinds of muggle money her grandparents used, but they were in France and THIS one said England on it. Raising a hand, the hufflepuff chanced a guess. "Is it five galleons, sir?" It DID have a five on it. That was convincing enough for her, yep.
Toby assumed that Soph would be his buddy, as she was right next to him and all. She was... being all weird though, so he'd see what that was all about later when they had a chance to talk. He DID wonder if maybe it was for the same reason he'd been so off with Airey recently. The Stellarpuff Hufflepuff looked through his envelope from the prompting at Airey and, just as he mentioned it, spotted the money. Coooooooool! They got FREE money? Not bad.
He knew muggle money, used it all his life and all, but as for how much it was worth? Uhhhh...
"Is it like... uhh... maybe about... ten sickles?" Toby offered, raising his hand as he spoke. Total guess over here; he usually relied on his grandma or the Gringotts goblins to do all the conversion stuff.

Sam raised her hand. "I think that muggle money is equivalent to one galleon," she replied, uncertain if she had calculated the figure correctly.
Angel looked around as she was nervous about taking the Professor to the muggle realm what if he changed into Hook and did magical things, she would keep an eye on him. "Professor can I stay with you?" Angel wanted to spend time with Benny but she wanted to make sure Professor Hookstead didn't come out.
Angel raised her hand. "I think it's worth around 1 galleon and 2 sickles." Angel wasn't really sure about her answer and she was still a bit scared about what was going on today.

He wasn't keen on everything, but his nerdy self loved him some museum and educational trips. Plus, this would be his first time using a portkey. He searched through his backpack for the fifteenth time, making sure he had all the things he needed. He even included his astronaut food items he had made. Maybe he could get someone to try one. He walked over to Zeke and looked around for others he might know.
He spoke to his buddy. Hey Zeke. I made that astronaut food in the kitchen and made enough so I'd have at least 2 tubes extra. You wanna try some later? He had tried it and it wasn't bad, at least he didn't think so. He thought the splash of malt vinegar he'd added to the fish and chips rounded them out nicely.
"Hey!" Zeke greeted Ian brightly. Hhehehe. He was understandably enthused by the sound of edibles, so even if Ian produced it, he was game. "Sounds good to me. I wanna make some too, but I did the timeline thing for homework, I just... kept eating the food before I could do anything with it." Which was a problem, all things considered.

"Stellar to hear, Mr. Baines," he saluted the first year. "I'll be sending that letter to your parents hopefully tomorrow." Wanted to make sure that he slept on his wording in the letter.
But THERE was some enthusiasm!
"Hello, Miss Kittredge! Stellar to see you are eager to start this little adventure." In fact, he mimicked her bouncing in place with some of his own as he set her permission slip on top of the others.
"It is indeed, Miss Jamieson," he saluted the Ravenclaw while taking her permission slip. So far so good. No one had forgotten their permission slips just yet and therefore forced him into an incredibly awkward situation.
"Good day, Mr. Tinker," he beamed at the Hufflepuff. Did he really need to respond to the suit comment? He just grinned a bit wider instead.
"Hello, Miss McAlistor," he greeted while taking her permission slip and adding it to the others.
"Good day, Miss Montgomery," he smiled to the Ravenclaw. Her slip now with the others, he had to wonder if she had given any further thought to the little nugget of advice he had given her earlier on in the term. "I think you'll find that certain scenes of that comic book you made me may come to life today."
Cue a small amused smirk.
"Thank you, Mr. Tempus," he grinned at the Hufflepuff. No, Mr. Tempus was MUCH more than a Hufflepuff now. He was...the boy was....he was... a Stellarpuff. Yes. That would have to do for now. Or perhaps Stellapuff to help the two words blend together more fluidly.
Oooooo......................kay?
Hand back in his suit jacket's pocket, he smiled to the Hufflepuff as he accepted her slip. "Hello, Miss Carrington."
"Thank you, Mr. Ze ---" he beamed as he took the permission slip, only to stop mid-name when he saw just WHO had signed it. Of course, he should have been completely aware of this fact already given that he was the boy's Head of House, but it had gleefully slipped his mind that he was currently responsible for the child of the Department Head of Magical Law Enforcement. "----ke."
Let's make sure that slip was niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice and flat. Ahem.
"Thank you, Miss Valentine," he said to the Gryffindor while taking her permission slip. Something in her eyes made him a bit uneasy. Sweet solstice. Was portkey travel really THAT terrifying?
Another permission slip added to the stack, he offered the Slytherin a faint smile before speaking. "Good morning to you as well, Miss Andrews."
"Excellent, thank you Miss Lynch," he beamed while accepting the permision slip. "I hope you enjoy yourself today."
"Good day, Mr. Atreyu," he saluted the Gryffindor. "I know I have already said this to you before, but stellar performance once again this term with Gobstones."
Accent whiplash alert. What?
"Thank you, Miss Janvier," he said as he took her slip, eyebrow raised curiously at the Ravenclaw. "Stellar to hear it."
"Hello, HELLO, Mr. Rehman," he beamed at the prefect. "Thank you. I'll take that." And another permission slip to the pile.
Thorny. Ha. HAHAHAHA.
Ahem.
"Good morning, Miss McGee," he grinned as he used her permission slip to salute her back.
"Glad you think so, Mr. Lecium," he beamed. "Should be quite the experience for everyone."
Airey took the permission slip and set it on top of the stack. "Good morning, Mr. Whitlock." And was it just him, or was the Slytherin a bit more...perky than usual?
"Good morning, Miss Bayless," he smiled to the Gryffindor...who seemed to be back to herself again. He was half tempted to ask her about her...experience. To compare. But now was probably not the place to do so.
"Good day, Miss Valentine," he smiled, accepting the permission slip and placing it on top of the others.
Zeke noticed things, small things, like the pause midway through his name. But he didn't think anything of it. Nope. Professor Airey was probably just reading and speaking at the same time which was arguably one of the hardest things to do EVER. The only thing that was harder was speaking and writing... those always got his words jumbled, it was always easier to just STOP speaking.
Once attention was called, Zeke looked up and listened, grinning broadly. No magic, no wandering, no funny business.. yeah yeah yeah, he got it. Although, if something wereeeee to happen, he knew people. HE KNEW PEOPLE. But nothing would happen - not from him at least.
When instructed, Zeke opened his envelope and checked its contents, an entry ticket and FIVE POUNDS!!!!........... they were shopppppiinngggg?!?!?! Snacks sounded good, but gift shop stuff sounded good too. Choices choices. As for how much it was worth in wizarding money stuffs?........ he KINDA knew...
Hand raised he answered, "Four hundred and ninety three knuts, Professor!"
The only reason he knew that, was because he had purposefully asked the Goblins at Gringotts for KNUTS when exchanging some of his muggle currency so he could buy Ashley eyes.

It was almost time to go!! After beaming at her best friend, Lux made sure to listen carefully to Professor Flamsteed's instructions. The last thing she wanted to do was go missing in the National Space Centre. Opening the envelope, she looked inside to make sure that she had everything that was needed.
At his question, she raised her hand. "I think it's worth about one galleon."

Ian listened as Zeke said he would give it a try. He chuckled a bit as Zeke said he kept eating the food before he could put it in the tubes. [b] I had a house elf help and I tried to make bunches so that I would have some to munch at the same time.[b] Ian had been excited about the idea of making a timeline.
Ian looked up as the professor greeted them and had them all gather around and explained what was going on. Ian had seen what was in his envelope and as the professor mentioned gift shop, Ian figured he'd get something for his mum. She collected spoons and maybe they would have a nice one. He also noted the professor's warning about magic. Ian was used to that as a muggle child, he wondered how some of the others would take it. He figured it would be alright since they surely had to enter the world of muffles to go to diagonal alley and the train, right? He was p,eased because he was really chaffed about the chance to use a port key. He wanted to go Now!

Hadleigh cringed when the Professor began telling them they would be portkeying there. She'd only done that once and it wasn't very good for her, it had made her sick. Though on her defense she had been much younger then. She just hoped that wouldn't happen today.
As the Professor spoke to them all he had her complete attention. No magic. No wandering off. Ect. Ect. Nod. Nod. She got it all and he didn't have to worry about any of that from her.
Peering into the envelop with her name on it like they had been told she saw both her ticket and the five pounds. Awesome! Some spending money would be nice. Maybe she'd be able to manage it where she could get something to eat as well as something from the shops...if she did things right. It was worth a try. Closing the envelop she slipped it into her backpack so it wouldn't get lost for the moment.
Raising her hand she replied. "That would be worth about one galleon Professor." She knew that because well her parents and all. Grinning she looked around the room once. Did she really need a partner though?

Despite being wary and slightly terrified (considering recent events), Gabriel P. Banner was NOT missing a trip to the National Space Center. He could not, in good conscious, pass up the opportunity...and more so, it was a prime opportunity to learn from Professor Flamsteed (who seemed to be a brilliantly knowledgeable man despite his Hook persona)...AND who was thankfully not being a character today. Apparently. It was a good job that the cosplaying was being left at Hogwarts.
After lint rolling himself, turning in his permission slip, and carefully poking through the envelopes to find his name, Gabe waited not-so-patiently through the 'rules' speech. He was as excited as Gabes could be about anything. SPACE. He was even prepared to take some extensive, hardcore notes; having his notebook with him, multicolored quill, as well as the camera Professor Fuller had given him in Charms.
Of course, Gabe hadn't thought about the buddy system. Where was Jeremiah? or Ceorlic?.......He wasn't in the mindset to become comfortable with someone new. Mini!freak out beginning in........3.......2........1.......

Jasmine watched as student after student filed into the classroom. Seeing her friends, she responded to their greetings. When her little buddy Norah came to stand next to her, Jasmine said, "Hello there Miss Norah". She really liked the younger girl. She was a bundle of energy and a lot of fun. Then Jasmine also had waves for Lux and Adi.
Before Jasmine knew it, class was starting. She was getting more and more excited about the field trip and she couldn't wait to see the Space Center. First though, ther was a question to be answered. Looking at the muggle money that the Professor showed, Jasmine knew that it was five pounds. Converting the money in her head, she raised her hand. "That is worth about one galleon", Jasmine stated. Trying to keep all of the exchange rates straight in her head was often challenging. She had to know American and British money, as well as Euros and Wizarding money. It was exhausting at times.

Justine had no time for the weird look Flamsteed gave her, no did she have much patience for his list of ( perfectly practical and necessary ) rules, and the buddy system? Justine was 18 years old, she really didn't need a buddy to keep safe... Also the only two friends she had in class today were Lux who seemed busy and Eden who Justine was not keen to speak with at the moment.
Envelope check, yep, she had all the necessary papers and the muggle five pound note. Were she any good at maths she would have answered the question, but it was actually her biggest academic weakness and Justine wasn't about to share that with the class, so she kept her painted lips shut.
There was that kid with the glasses who'd been so disapproving towards McGee, the Bespectacled Boy as she'd dubbed him in her mind. What was with the wide eyes and all the sweat? Justine wasn't even aware, but she was staring at him as she tried to figure out the kid's problem.
Wordlessly, Justine pulled out her handkerchief and held it out. "For your face," The Ravenclaw impassively said, in case Bespectacled Boy didn't get understand the gesture.

Adi flipped open the envelope and peered in. Yep, there was an entry ticket and muggle money. Since Professor Flamsteed was already receiving answers of one Galleon to his question, the Hufflepuff nudged Benny.
"Buddies?'' he mouthed. Had to ask you know. Just in case he wanted to buddy up with Angel. Not that Adi would mind. Or would he? Hmm...

I do not want to make the Prophet because someone breached the Statute and the Ministry had to get involved...or to have any of you expelled." SO JUST DO NOT DO IT, OKAY!?
Jasmine and Samantha were also here, so there was a good chance that she and Thornton would survive the field trip. It was almost time to leave! Penelope listened to the professor's instructions. Opening her envelope, she checked to make sure that the ticket and the money were inside. "Five pounds is worth 1 galleon, professor."

"Goldilocks," She corrected solemnly. "And I already did, Sir. Just there!" Goldilocks pointed daintily to the slip of paper she'd handed over, knowing it was the one she'd had because it had a chocolate stain on it. Dreadfully dirty, that was. Didn't chocolate attract bears?! The girl backed away slightly from the door just in case. They could be horribly grumpy, bears.
The boy who'd suggested she sit on the ground got a look. Didn't he know the floor was much too hard for her to get comfortable on? She shook her head, curls bouncing slightly as she did. She wouldn't be doing that. She was going to keep him, though. He was juuuust right for a buddy. Perfect height for her to lean against and so she rested her head on his arm and relaxed. This was much better.
Peeking into the Cooper girl's envelope, Goldilocks rifled around. If she lost her ticket she'd simply take another. With this many people, it'd be easy to make sure she got into the space centre! As for the money, the girl's eyes lit up as she looked it over. "Surely it's enough to buy lots of porridge!"

Okay, so a portkey would be helping them travel. AJ still didn't understand completely, but she got the main idea of it, and it wasn't like she would be left behind. The lion looked into her envelope and made sure she had her ticket, and muggle money. Of course AJ knew all about muggle money, but the whole muggle to wizard money still confused her.
There wasn't any need to worry though because apparently several people did know. AJ took mental notes and tried not to be too impatient. Fifteen minutes could be a very long time. No magic, and be good... got it.
