It had taken him some time, but he did manage to get through it eventually, and he didn't need to pause as much, nor did he have to stop completely and re-read and re-count the letters and gibberish on his parchment. The only question that remained was, was he ready?

Was he REALLY ready to do this?

What would happen if he stuffed up half way?

What would happen if he didn't finish the chant before he emptied the vial?

What if he emptied the vial after he finished the chant, did it have to be quick, or could he take forever?

Would the plant live even if he failed??....

Merlin this was a great deal of pressure.

Taking a deep breath, loosening his tie and pulling at his collar, Zeke readied himself to ACTUALLY perform the spell thing.

Ian listened as the professor began to speak again and his shoulders sort of sunk as he realized they would be 'healing' plants. Ian had hoped maybe the bracelets would be for them and they could use them to keep themselves from getting sick much. Of course that would be too good to be true. He was working on the last rune by this time and he sort of didn't want to do this activity. It was a bit of a let down and he thought perhaps he might be able to get away with not working. Of course, he knew that would not help the huffie house. He finished the bracelet and walked up to the potion and grabbed an empty vial and slipped on his dragon hide gloves. Carefully pouring the potion into the vial, he returned to his seat and began annotating the notes on what he should be doing.

Back at his desk with the potted plant, Adi grabbed the bracelet. For some reason, he double checked that he had done the carvings right. His eyes went from the bracelet to the blackboard as he double checked. Yep. All carvings were done correctly.

Bracelet on his dominant hand, the left one, Adi picked up the vial containing the purple potion with the same hand. What next? He read the instructions carefully again. Oh yeah! Pour the potion while chanting. Sure thing.

Angel now had to go and get a potted plant because well that was what they were saving... she quickly went and picked one up. "Oh don't worry, I will save you." Angel wondered what was going on with all the sick plants. "Your guardian angel is here." Angel giggled as she whispered that to the plant, she loved that saying.

Angel went over to her desk with the plant and put it down, she then went and put on her bracelet this wasn't going to go bad was it like the Ghostbuster film where they called all the ghosts from the underworld. Angel was sure that she would freak out if anything like that happened.

Potion was in her vial, and properly sealed. Now she needed to select a plant. It shouldn't matter which one she picked, but she for sure didn't want one that had a million white spots. Why make herself work harder? The key was to always work smarter. AJ walked around and around the plants until she spotted one that didn't look too bad. Honestly, they were probably all the same, but this one made her feel better about the assignment.

She grasped this one in a sort of bear hold/hug and lugged it back to her desk. It was always easier to work in their own little areas. Now AJ's eyes scanned the blackboard. That was a super long chant.

Practice needed to happen. Maybe with practicing, she would be able to cut down on the time it would take her to vanish the white spots. There was no way that she wanted to be stuck her for hours on end.

That was a lot of S's and U's. What if she left off one? Would that make all the difference in the world? The same thing could be said for adding on an extra letter. Oh well, AJ wasn't one to dwell. She was just going to have to roll with it.

The Gryffindor's grew all big when he saw how much was written on the blackboard next. Woah. That's a whole lot to write down. So instead of listening particularly well to what Botros was saying next, Zander took this time to write everything down-- or well write as much as he could get before his hands started cramping. It was a lot, okay?

After finishing up the last of his notes, he looked around the room to figure out what everyone was doing next. Oh. The vial thing. Right. How come they were using plants and potions in this class? Were Professors even allowed to mix classes like this?! It was like taking Herbology all over again- which for the record, Zander would much prefer Botros over that horrible Walton man.

He walked up to the Professor's desk and grabbed one empty vial. Then, as carefully as he could, he filled it with the potion. Hopefully this would be enough? Then he brought the vial back to his desk and sat down. Wait. They had to get a plant now, right? Ahem. Yeah.

Angel decided that she would practice the chanting, she didn't have her wand on her otherwise she might accidently get the thing to work with her bracelet on but well she was now thinking that maybe the carving on the bracelet was wrong.

Angel quickly checked and smiled as she saw that the carvings were right and she totally was happy and that she hoped that everything was okay and now it was time to do the practicing.

"Intaglio sowilo sowilo sowilo, u u u u u u u u u, s s s o o o l l l, ju ja ji je jo, us as is es os, j j j e e e r r r a a a, si se su sa su, u u u u u u r r r r r r, s s s s s s s s s". Angel was totally worried about saying all this and then she decided to go a bit weird. "Oh I.... for...got... the word..." Angel giggled as she looked at the chanting she had to do. This was going to be very hard for her to remember.

So he had the potion ready, but there was definitely something missing... Vial? Check. Potion in vial? Check. Bracelet? Check. Oh wait, the most important thing for this whole process. The plant. Duuuuh. Ahem. Getting up from his seat-- with a rather pink tint to his cheeks-- the Gryffindor walked over to the row of plants. So he wanted a nice one that didn't look too sick.

Merlin knows that Ancient Runes isn't his very best subject so the easier the plant, the better.

Right.

Deciding that they all looked just about similar in the end, Zander grabbed the closest one to him and brought it all the way back over to his desk. So erm, about that Galdr... It looked like a tongue twister. The sowilo part was easy. Just say that three times. Then it gets a bit weird.

Yeah, gonna stare at it for a bit and hope it gets absorbed into his brain. 'Cause that's just how he rolls. Don't mind this Gryffindor here, people. He's just absorbing some knowledge. Or at least, attempting to.

His bracelet already on his wand hand and waiting to be used, Benny was ready to move on to the actually healing of the plant. He looked down at his notes to confirm what that was made up of from beginning to end. First to pour the potion onto the plant and then chanting over the plant and the potion with the bracelet in hopes the magic and the runes would help heal the plant back to normal. No spots should remain when he was done, even if it might take time like Botros had explained with the various timelines.

Benny read over the gladr a few times, hoping to make sure he got it down pat for when he cast. The fourth year then picked up the vial filled with potion once more, making sure to do it with his right hand as instructed since it was the one with the bracelet. Uncorking it, Benny began to slowly pour the liquid onto the plant, beginning to chant in the process. "Sowilo sowilo sowilo, u u u u u u u u u, s s s o o o l l l, ju ja ji je jo, us as is es os, j j j e e e r r r a a a, si se su sa su, u u u u u u r r r r r r, s s s s s s s s s."

Alright time for action. He was gonna do this right. He grabbed his vial of potion with the hand that had the bracelet on. Then he got his wand out with his left hand and poured the potion and chanted the spell,

"Intaglio "Sowilo sowilo sowilo, u u u u u u u u u, s s s o o o l l l, ju ja ji je jo, us as is es os, j j j e e e r r r a a a, si se su sa su, u u u u u u r r r r r r, s s s s s s s s s."

He saw the runes begin to glow and thought that was bloody cool. He was smiling and was glad he doing it right. Then he waited for the white spots to disappear. He saw them vanishing and was glad they were that meant his plant was healing! He probably need to wait a couple of hours before it was totally healed. He decided he was gonna try and revive another plant. He left his previous plant where it was and let it do it's own thing.

Setting the plant down on her desk, Lux consulted her notes. She needed to put the bracelet on. Seemed pretty simple to her! Picking it up, she looked at the board again to make sure that she had done the carvings correctly. Yep, it matched what Professor Botros had drawn on the board earlier so the magic should work.

She was right handed, so she slipped the bracelet onto her right wrist before picking the vial up with the same hand. Now she just needed to pour the potion into the plant's soil while chanting the galdr.

Sure Cinna hasn't answered any of the questions. She had mostly just sat and listened to everyone else's answers. Yep. Sat in a daze the rest of that part of the lesson. She had kept up with her notes and such. She may actually be learning something about some runes. Maybe. But she wouldn't count on it.

And now she was writing down the process for the activity.



After she finished writing down the process. She looked over it and looked over it again. The fired thing that she needed to do was to get a vial off of the professors desk. She went up and got a empty vial.

Carefully filling the vial with the potion. She DID NOT want to get this on her mo telling want would happen to her if she did. Let's hope we don't have to find shall we. Once she was finished, before returning to her seat she headed over to pick out a plant.

Which poor helpless plant was she going to try to save? Or kill even worse. She picked one out , picked it up and carried it and her vial of potion back over to her desk. Let's see what she had do next. Runes maybe be a subject that maybe growing on her. Maybe.

Time for some rune chanting!

"Sowilo sowilo sowilo, u u u u u u u u u, s s s o o o l l l, ju ja ji je jo, us as is es os, j j j e e e r r r a a a, si se su sa su, u u u u u u r r r r r r, s s s s s s s s s,'' Adi chanted, will and intent present, and he watched with enthusiasm as the runes carved on the bracelet began to glow, glow, glooooow!

But while he was doing this, the Hufflepuff was also pouring the potion onto the soil of the plant. Then all the potion was gone. Time to wait for the spots to vanish.

Now came the actual chanting that would make the plant get over whatever the hell was actually wrong with it. Somehow...it kinda made you wonder....did they conveniently have a whole bunch of sick plants that needed healing or did they make them sick in the hope that their competency level would be high enough to make them better again? It was an ambitious move given the fact half the class was filled with idiots.

Bentley was probably turning in her retirement home right now--or she would be if she knew the kind of treatment these plants were getting.

Lex cleared her throat to begin the chant, vial raised and ready to begin the pouring. "sowilo sowilo sowilo, u u u u u u u u u, s s s o o o l l l, ju ja ji je jo, us as is es os, j j j e e e r r r a a a, si se su sa su, u u u u u u r r r r r r, s s s s s s s s s"." Had to make sure she got it all around the soil, not leaving a single area untouched because that would become the margin for error and who knows how long she'd be stuck in here waiting.

"sowilo sowilo sowilo, u u u u u u u u u, s s s o o o l l l, ju ja ji je jo, us as is es os, j j j e e e r r r a a a, si se su sa su, u u u u u u r r r r r r, s s s s s s s s s".

The glowing could start any minute now, just saying.

Before he could get distracted by anybody or anything, Toby held out the potion (still in the hand that wore the bracelet) and began carefully pouring it into the soil that housed his poor, sick plant. He made sure to go slow enough that he could chant the entire galdr before the vial was empty.

"Sowilo sowilo sowilo... u u u u u u u u u... s s s o o o l l l..." As Toby poured and chanted, he caught sight of the runes from his bracelet glowing brightly. He made sure to rotate the plant, too, to cover the soil in a circle around the stem. But he was also careful to keep in mind his focus on the spell and the runes and the idea of HEALING this poor sick plant. "... ju ja ji je jo, us as is es os, j j j e e e r r r a a a, si se su sa su, u u u u u u r r r r r r, s s s s s s s s s..."

He reached the end of the spell just before the last few drops of the potion had been poured, so Toby shook those drops out and just... looked at his plant.

Twelve hours, that was how long the potion USUALLY took, without the runes, and Botros had said about how four or five hours was a beginner level, two was 'fine' and one was good. Being that he was a fifth year, and this was one of his best classes, Toby was hoping for the shortest amount of time possible here. In fact, as soon as he thought of it, Toby became very suddenly and intensely obsessed with the idea that it had to happen quickly. This was probably the best current indicator of knowing how on track he was for that O in Ancient Runes, after all. And he needed to get that O. For reasons.

After checking his watch for a start time, Toby looked up and stared intently at the leaves of his plant. If hope could heal, the plant would already be healthy again. But of course, that wasn't the case.

And so he waited.

"sowilo sowilo sowilo, u u u u u u u u u, s s s o o o l l l, ju ja ji je jo, us as is es os, j j j e e e r r r a a a, si se su sa su, u u u u u u r r r r r r, s s s s s s s s s."

OI! Where was the magic glowing that was meant to happen any minute now? Did this plant not understand her lack of intention to be here more than an hour? An hour that was already trickling down mind you. She might have done more chanting but the vial was now sufficiently empty. Sweet Circe.

Or wait...

Lex looked to the board again...the plant wasn't meant to glow too?? Just the runes? Oh. Whoops. She knew that, ahem. The runes had already been glowing, there was no worry about that which meant she was in fact on the right path and just needed to wait for the spots to start vanishing now. Another glance at her watch told her it had maybe 45 minutes more, then she'd be walking out whether the plant was better or not.

That was life.

Funny how there were a lot of sick plants that needed healing all of a sudden.

See, Grayson wasn't sure if this was a normal occurrence or not since he wasn't a plant lover and whatnot but it sounded dead weird to him. Plants with white spots. And a potion that Culloden himself needed to make for the plants. Weird. And if he cared more about plants, he'd want to look into this but frankly, the dude just didn't have the time between all the last minute homework he was doing and the studying he was trying to avoid.

ANYWAYS. He needed to slip this bracelet on then, yeah? There. Once that was done, the fifth year headed up to the front of the classroom and poured out some potion into a vial for himself. Plant needed this bad boy to heal itself and the boy was hoping it wouldn't take long. Imagine if he had to stand there for six hours?! Jeez, that was TOO long of a wait.

With the potion in hand, he examined it quickly before heading over towards the plants. The vial, of course, was being carried in his right hand because that was his strongest hand and it was the same hand that the bracelet was on. Would this help with the healing process? He freaking well hoped so.

Nothing to do now but wait...

and wait...

and wait some more.

Was this plant even doing anything? If she didn't know any better she'd think it was trying to spite her or something with the speed it was going. On the odd occasion she'd see a spot or two vanish but for the most part they weren't budging. By this point she was willing to think the chanting wasn't working the way it was meant to but she didn't feel like getting another vial and trying some more.

This would heal when it had a mind to. Nothing to do til then but wait....more than how much she was already waiting before. Lex could only imagine how the Professor was holding up. He didn't even have a plant to take care of.

When staring at the plant became boring enough she placed her head on her desk an dozed off. No telling how long she'd been but when she finally came to the plant was....cured!!!! Oh wow, what time was it? For a moment she tried catching her bearings but once she was proper awake she rose and started collecting her things. The plant was healed. Her work was done, yes?

Now that she was back in her seat. She looked back at her notes it to see want she was suppose to do next. Reading over the notes she realized that she didn't have the bracelet on. She was so sure that she already had it on. She looked around trying to find it. Panic started it set in until she lifted up the plant. Eh there it was.

She slipped it around left wrist. She put the vial in the same hand as the bracelet. She had to move the plant back in front of her so she could get to it. She got the rune and her wand it the other hand. Now she was ready. Plant. Bracelet. Potion. Rune. Wand. And now for the grand finale the chant...

A bit more potion poured onto his plant and a continuous repeat of the chanted galdr. "Sowilo sowilo sowilo, u u u u u u u u u, s s s o o o l l l, ju ja ji je jo, us as is es os, j j j e e e r r r a a a, si se su sa su, u u u u u u r r r r r r, s s s s s s s s s." The runes on his bracelet glowed as he worked like the professor had mentioned which was a relief for Benny as the vial soon emptied out. It meant he had certainly done at least something right with his work.

The white spots on the plant weren't disappearing right away however which was a small disappointment. The thought that it might mean the Gryffindor really truly was bad at runes made Benny bite the inside of his cheek in concern. However he remembered the professor said all was not lost if it took some time so maybe he just had to wait a little bit for that finally reaction.

Ugh this was usually the part she missed up at she stared at the word or ummm the chant in her note book. sowilo sowilo sowilo, u u u u u u u u u, s s s o o o l l l, ju ja ji je jo, us as is es os, j j j e e e r r r a a a, si se su sa su, u u u u u u r r r r r r, s s s s s s s s s. She didn't say it out loud yet or to herself she just read it. She took a deep breath before standing up. Yes it seem like this would work out better standing up.

Getting to her feet was a lot harder than it looked with both of your hands full. Once she was standing over her potted plant. She slowly poured the potion in the soil of the plant. Speaking this time she stared to chant as clearly as possible. "Sowilo sowilo sowilo, u u u u u u u u u, s s s o o o l l l, ju ja ji je jo, us as is es os, j j j e e e r r r a a a, si se su sa su, u u u u u u r r r r r r, s s s s s s s s s."

Tobias' grandma had always said something about how a watched pot never boils. One day, when she wasn't noticing, he sat and stared at a saucepan of water intently while the water inside was boiling when she was making dinner, and came to the conclusion that a kettle totally DID still boil if you were looking at. Though he'd never actually pointed out that she had been wrong.

It wasn't until today, right now, that Toby finally understood what his grandmother might have meant by that little turn of phrase. He was sat here, staring intently at the plant for what felt like HOURS (but thankfully was only about twenty minutes or so). He bit his lip and checked his watch again and stared back at the plant's leaves. Maybe if he just did something else while waiting, and periodically glanced back to check? That could work.

He had his runes textbook after all, so why not get a little extra studying done? But as Toby reached for the book, he caught sight of the bracelet on his wrist again, with the glow of the runes finally dying out as he watched. Toby sat still, looking and thinking. He could just... chant again, to get them to glow? It might not make any difference to the plant's progress, as the potion had already been poured, but Toby wanted to make the runes glow again, and it would help to try to practice the chant again, in case it came up in his OWLs.

Toby drew his hand back from his book and rested his arm on this desk, looking at the cool healing charm bracelet. He glanced at his notes for a second, then back again, and then repeated his chant for funsies. Again, he stayed focused on the healing properties of his current wristwear, and how the spell would assist any sort of healing task he might want to complete while wearing it.

"Sowilo sowilo sowilo... u u u u u u u u u... s s s o o o l l l..." Again, the runes glowed, and so brightly too, especially now that they had his absolute utmost attention, and he wasn't also trying to focus on steadying his hand like when he'd poured that potion. "... ju ja ji je jo, us as is es os, j j j e e e r r r a a a, si se su sa su, u u u u u u r r r r r r, s s s s s s s s s..."

Wicked. Toby smiled to himself before raising his arm a little, and rotating the bracelet around his wrist with his other hand. It never ceased to amaze him, the whole gandr thing. Like, you could activate these runes without a wand, so it was TECHNICALLY wandless magic. So super cool; he wondered how anyone could not think that Ancient Runes was totally amazing. WAS there anyone who thought that?

He glanced at the plant again, and... where the dots fading? Was it looking slightly healthier? Possibly his imagination, but Toby liked to focus on the positive thought, and believe that the potion was doing its job.

Not healed yet though, it still needed time. So Toby did actually pick up his Ancient Runes textbook this time, and flip through it to where he'd left off during his last studying session. He attempted to try and read through the chapter, but it was like someone had flicked a switch in his brain; the focus he'd had during the practical runes stuff had suddenly decided to take a leave of absence, and he couldn't keep his eyes on the book for more than a minute before his concentration wandered. But still he tried, occasionally glancing up to check on his plant.

Time to check on the next plant while his previous plant was getting settled in with the pesticide which usually took a while. It would probably feel better after he left the class. He grabbed another plant near the window sill and started to put his healing bracelet to work. He went up to the room and got extra potion and poured it on the plant while chanting the galdr.

"Sowilo sowilo sowilo, u u u u u u u u u, s s s o o o l l l, ju ja ji je jo, us as is es os, j j j e e e r r r a a a, si se su sa su, u u u u u u r r r r r r, s s s s s s s s s."

He hopefully said it right because it was a tongue twister. He hoped the spots would vanish. He was getting better at chanting the spell that is for sure. He saw Cinna doing it and was proud of her. He even saw Lux chanting it and was impressed with both of his friends. He wonder where Emmy and Bay were.

Lookie, lookie her rune was glowing. Her rune was growing that meant that the potion, the rune, the chant all were working right? This poor little plant was going to be okay. It was going make it. She keep on chanting that. As she finished off putting the potion in the soil. The rune still glowing. She was done! She say back down in her seat. She waited to see how this plant was going to get better or if it was going to get better at all. All of this work better work.

Now this poor plant was on the way to the road to recovery. She knew that it was going to get better. Yay! Really this rune thing wasn't as bad as she thought it was. It was actually kind of fun. She sat around for a few minutes before she realized that nothing had happen time it yet. It was going to get better wasn't it. What wait. How long was this going to take?

Okay. So NOW he was ready. Had the plant. Had the vial filled with the potion. Had his bracelet with the runes carved into it. Now for the hard part. The actual stuff part of this whole entire process. It was everything he needed to do all packed into one hardcore chant and potion pouring process.

Actually, no. It was practice time. That's exactly what he had to do. Practice before actually diving head first into things or else it could go way wrong and he could accidentally set the plant on fire-- actually... He didn't really know if fire was an accurate malfunction but stuff like that happened all the time around here. For some reason, especially with pants. Everyone's pants and robes and stuff always caught on fire. And Zander was not ready to be a part of that nonsense. Especially not after having been one of the fire putting-outter heroes. Couldn't go all the way to square one after having made it so far.

So no. Practice was a good thing. Especially when this galdr was such a tongue twister. "Sowilo sowilo sowilo," that was the easier part. But then it got all weird with the uuuhs and the jjjeerrs and the si se su sa su whatevers. "u u u u u u u u u, s s s o o o l l l?????" Um. "???" Was that right? "s s s o o o l l l, ju ja ji je jo" Weird. It didn't even sound like letters anymore. "j j j e e e r r r a a a....."

Zander carefully repeated each portion of the galdr individually, until FINALLY he was able to somewhat kind of say it okayish?? Well, uh, that was better than nothing?
