Default Transfiguration 1 -Let the Storm Rage On

As is per usual, Transfiguration class is one of the first lessons for the day. Yes, bright and early. Of course your professor doesn't wish to hear any complaints or see any yawning because you should all just be used to it by now.

When you enter the classroom, you notice that the desk and chairs are all neatly lined to the sides. The windows that would normally be wide open for the crisp morning breeze to wave through are closed and Professor Bellaire is standing by her desk waiting, wand in hand and scowl in place.

On the board is an outline of sorts.

Okay so his first time he had issues with his spell and he had birds coming at him. Hoping he could get it right this time and he so wished he could take notes. Bay did the wand movement over and over again to try to get that down pact. after about 10 minutes of it his wrist started to hurt. rubbing his achy wrist he now dreaded this part, he had to get the wording right.

"Stiricidium Nubila" he kept drilling that in his head for a good 20 minutes, it needed to be done his pronunciation was horrible. Bay felt okay-ish about it now so he gave it another go. After doing the wand movement and the incantation Bay was being hit with little tiny rocks.. "ughhhhh" he said under his breath and he tried to shield his head and face. "Finite" he said quickly to make the rocks stop hitting him. Oh well third times the charm right?

You know what? Fine. FINE.

Grayson scowled up at the cloud. Maybe it was just being difficult. Yeah, that was exactly what it was doing. It had nothing to do with him or his wand. The wand had worked perfectly well with other spells so he was going to blame the cloud. Uh huh. The cloud just didn't like him. He almost wanted to ask for a new, less fluffy looking one. Almost.

And then something floated into his brain. Something that, funnily enough, was said by Romanos in their Defence lesson. He paused and looked past the cloud, trying to remember what it was. Inner willpower, she had said. Feeling the confidence through your head, heart and arm or whatever. And even if it was most beneficial for curses, maybe............ just maybe.

"Stiricidium Nubila!" The fourteen year old's face lit up as he watched the cloud grow and get darker and darker. THIS was more like it. Yes. And then something landed on the tip of his nose. Something that looked very much like............

................. Oh freaking merlin. It was raining. Huge droplets of rain that were falling down on his head and down his neck.

He was getting drenched.

SCOWL.

Uhhh....cotton balls. This wasn't supposed to happen, was it?

Nope.

"Finite!" Sophie said, ending the spell she'd attempted to cast before. The cotton balls stopped raining down on her, and the cloud was back to its normal condition before she'd casted. So she needed to cast again. Right.

She pointed her wand upward and made a counter-clockwise swirl with her wand. "Stiricidium Nubila!" she said. She tried her best to focus on what she intended this spell to do. No cotton balls this time. Nope. She waited to see what would happen. Pause. Then--something did happen. It wasn't cotton balls, no.

"Rocks?!" she said to herself. She covered her head and moved to get out of the way.

Adelaide looked up at her hailing-kinda-flurry-snowing cloud and then around at the room. Everyone else seemed to be having at least some sort of issues with the spell. Even the older students like her. Good. At least she wasn't falling behind.

She got ready, taking a deep breath, before pointing her wand at the cloud. She did thae little movement and "Stiricidium Nubila!" Addi made sure to say it a bit more forceful this time because sometimes force helped.

OOoooo look! Less hail and more snow. Yay! At least things were getting better.

Default Hi Grayson!
Jedi Master•General Iroh•Java Junkie• King ♛ Stefan •Mycroft Holmes•Dragon Lord•Druid Boy

With leaves and twigs still sticking out of his hair, Ethan decided that he should just watch for now. Take a break, you know? This spell is an advanced one, and he was getting tired of getting pelted with things that aren’t supposed to come out of a cloud. Well, rain and hail do count, but leaves and twigs? Really? Ethan watched his fellow Slytherin (Grayson) as he casted the spell on his cloud. He seemed very determined and maybe the younger Slytherin could learn a thing or two by just watching him. Ooookay. His cloud was getting bigger...and darker...and...

Rain.

Ethan sighed and scratched the back of his head. “I feel your pain, mate.” Nod nod. He got hit by hails, soaked in rain water and is now covered with leaves and twigs. “How about…we imagine the cloud producing snow before we do the incantation? That…might work. What do you think?” Because seriously, them bunch looked ridiculous since the tiny first years got their clouds to snow already.

Ethan didn't wait for his fellow Slytherin to reply. He seemed to be the not-so-friendly type anyway. Standing with his legs apart, the third year imagined his fluffy, innocent looking cloud producing snow. Legit snow. Not rain, hail, twigs, leaves, cats, dogs, etc. "Stiricidium Nubila!"

Snow. Please?

Okay, so fifth times's the charm?

Staring up at her little cloud, Lux took more deep breaths. She would master this. She would make snow. There was no way she would fail this term project, because she didn't do failure. Clearing her mind, she focused all of her attention on making a snow cloud. Picturing one in her head, she swirled her wand around. "Stiricidium Nubila!"

BAM! Her cloud started growing bigger and darker until snow began falling. SNOW. Beautiful snow!! "I did it!" Excitedly, she started to dance around as the snowflakes fell on her.

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

Who's bright idea was it to have falling rocks anyway? Lex was positive that when she'd thought up that spell just now, NOTHING in her mind was focused on rocks! Those were the last thing on her mind thank you very much and now her head hurt and she was almost sure her shoulder had been bruised--though really it might not have been. The rock wasn't that big to begin with if she was being honest.

Thankfully the rock shower stopped because running wasn't an option when the cloud stuck to you like her cousin's crup stuck to him whenever he was home. The whole thing was ridiculous really. She'd have preferred the cloud leave her alone until she was sure she knew what was coming out of it but no, that wasn't the case and she had a feeling this would take awhile unless she REALLY tried to focus.

Alright.

Time to give it another go. There were only so many other things that could come out of a cloud, yeah? Technically rocks weren't even meant to come from the cloud so she'd possibly hit her impossible limit already.

Positive thinking and focus. "Stiricidium Nubila!"

Come on. Come on. Come on.

........................ Okay. WHAT?!

It wasn't the fact that he was being watched. No no, Grayson really didn't care about that for once. It was the person who was talking to him that made him pause. Wasn't this the same guy who had run off to the wrong table at the start of term feast? Uh huh. He'd run off to the Huggers and Finders table when he was clearly meant to be in Slytherin. Dumb.

There was also the matter of 'mate' but the fourteen year old was going to brush that aside. Especially since this kid was offering help and free help too. Just out of the blue. A nice gesture. Huh. Maybe he could learn a thing or two about that from him.

............................... NAH. The thought itself was tiring.

"You've been having trouble with your cloud too?" Was it just as much of an idiot as his one? At least the boy wasn't as much of an idiot as he'd initially thought. Grayson eyed the cloud above his head before saying, "It could do. Intent and whatnot. That's important, yeah?" He was already rolling up his sleeves as he said this, looking more determined than before. Because he was going to get it to freaking snow. "Romanos said something about inner willpower once. That helped me with a curse." You know, if they were offering advice. Free advice.

The boy had better not tell anyone that he did this otherwise people were going to expect more free advice from him and that was a no-go.

He watched the boy curiously as he cast the spell before turning his attention towards his own cloud. This had better work otherwise.............. he'd think of something but the boy would be in trouble if he was feeding Grayson bad advice. Snoooooooow. Great flakes of snow that would be PERFECT for initiating snowball fights. "Stiricidium Nubila!"

Come on! SNOW. The kid's life depended on it. Not really.

He looked around and saw Coop getting drenched. “What are you doing?” the Slytherin asked, amused at the Ravenclaw. Why was she just standing there and looking at her cloud? It dawned on him that the tiny person didn’t know how to end the spell. Ethan pointed at her cloud, and said: “FINITE!” The Slytherin looked at the drenched little Claw and gave her a grin. “The incantation is ‘Finite’ if you wanna stop or end a spell.” Helpful incantation if you ask him.
Maddie WAS drenched. The small first year was COLD too but she tried to ignore that because she had work to do. Like trying to figure out how to this dumb cloud stop raining on her FACE. Her hair was ALREADY getting crazy curly from the water and the twelve year old was NOT pleased. She just needed to remember the incantation and she could--

"Finite." Maddie eyed skateboard boy and nodded slowly, pushing some wet hair out of her face. "Right, I knew that." Clearly NOT but she wasn't about to admit it. Also, "Thank you for that." She smiled a LITTLE at the boy and then looked up at her cloud, a cloud which was no longer raining. THANK MERLIN. Now if she could just get the thing to produce SNOW.

...

After rolling her neck and tucking back her extremely ridiculous hair, Maddie was ready to have another go. She held her wand and eyed the cloud curiously, wondering what ELSE she could possibly do to get it to snow. It wasn't like she was asking it to produce KITTENS or anything, Merlin. Snow was STANDARD weather stuff. She really couldn't get why she wasn't able to do this. Clearly the possibility of her not being skilled enough hadn't crossed her mind.

"Stiricidium Nubila!" After she'd finished the wand movement, she looked up at the now changing cloud and held her breath. It WAS darkening AND changing shape but was it going to snow? HM?!

... ... ...NOPE.

More. rain. STUPIDRAINCLOUD.

The brunette wrinkled her nose and pointed her wand towards the cloud, trying not to SHOW how discouraged she was. "Finite."

Handy spell indeed.

What's wrong with this cloud?! He did pronounce the incantation clearly, did the wand movement properly, and there was intent! How could it possibly not do anything when he wanted the cloud to snow? Intent was there. Promise!

Grrr. Maybe Transfiguration isn't for him.

Well, he was wrong. The other dude could talk, and not as picky as he thought he would be. Didn't he see his state? Hello? Leaves and twigs on his hair and uniform? He was a mess and it was his cloud's fault. "Yep. It just won't snow!" he said as he pointed and poked his cloud, obviously getting frustrated with it. "I tried the intent thing too. Doesn't work for me." Shrug. Oh well. Maybe he needs to focus more. Or maybe he just ended up with a picky cloud. Evil, innocent looking cloud he's got.

"You're welcome, Coop." Ethan gave her a thumbs up and watched her do the spell. Eh. Nope. Rain. The Slytherin grinned at the tiny person as she ended the spell all on her own. She's a fast learner...which is expected since she's a Claw. Mhm.

Now, moving on to his cloud. His evil, fluffy, innocent looking piece of...cloud. "What else could you possible produce?" he asked as he looked at the fluffy looking thing. "Merlin. Just not rocks, okay? I had hail, earlier and it wasn't nice." Clearing his throat, he eyed his cloud with piercing gaze and imagined it to be snowing. Once he got that picture in his mind clearly, he went on with the incantation and wand movement. "STIRICIDIUM NUBILA!" Ethan's cloud grew bigger and darker and started to...

SNOW.

Like...there was a snowstorm. The Slytherin flailed at the amount of snow that was pouring down on him, and his tiny square of space in the classroom started to pile with snow in a matter of seconds. "Too. Much. SNOW!" Ethan coughed at how cold it was and swatted the snow that was pouring down. He pointed at his cloud once more and ended the spell. "FINITE!" And his cloud became smaller and friendly looking once more. The Slytherin flopped on his pile of snow and made an audible sigh.

Well, at least he got what he wanted now. Heh.

Lucy was all wet but as long as she was there in the rain Lucy saw the other companions and she copied them: "Finite!"
She thought: Maybe I'll catch a cold .. "
Then she looked again at his cloud, pointed his wand and said, "Stiricidium nubila" .. Something began to fall .. it looked freezing rain ..

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

Alexa squinted as she saw something finally fall from her cloud. She didn't want to get her hopes up...but it was white...and fluttering down like a snowflake would. Without meaning to, the Gryffindor was clinging to the faintest hope that somehow she'd gotten it and this exercise could be over. There were more falling with it too and a grin was slowly formed...but it disappeared before it could get very far. If this was snow, why weren't things cold? Why didn't the temperature drop even a little and why did the one that hit her not send her shivering?

Lex caught what she'd first assumed was a snowflake and crushed it in her hand. No ice at all...."Cotton??" Her eyes rose to the cloud again. That was a cheap shot and she didn't find it in the least bit amusing.

Her patience was running very thin with this thing. There were people all around her getting this and she had to be the one dodging rocks and feeling cotton. Somehow this just didn't seem right to her. "Finite." Just stop. Her dreams were crushed and this exercise had lost all favours with her. Things were never meant to be this complicated in spellwork. Somehow she HAD to get this.

"Stiricidium Nubila!"

Once again the cloud clustered closer together and took on a dark tint. There was a slight change in the temperature under the cloud but before this could be properly registered, it began to fall...things...cold things...what? This wasn't snow, that much she could tell, it was a lot more slushy...almost liquid like but freezing. Was this the progress she'd been hoping for??? Not quite snow BUT ALMOST THERE!!!!

Angel decided it was time to concentrate really hard. "Stiricidium Nubila" Angel did the wand movement and then she concentrated with all her might, her eyes were closed as she thought about what she wanted to happen.

*eek*

It was cold at the minute, but Angel still didn't open her eyes, she decided to slowly peek out of one eye and when she did, she smiled as she realised it was snowing, she had totally done it, she was getting ready to dance like crazy but then remembered she was in class so she couldn't do that.

WHAT IN THE FREAKING NAME OF MERLIN.

Through the rain droplets, Grayson could make out that the cloud had thickened even more and turned a darker shade of grey. This would have been met with a smirk and a small 'HA!' of victory but the cloud had a mind of its own. The rain was replaced by hail. Actual. Freaking. HAILSTONES.

This was just embarrassing now.

His expression deadpanned, almost as if he was pretty much done with this spell already. No. Wait. He was. His cloud was just being difficult, mkay? It had nothing to do with him and his capability in casting spells correctly. Because he was good at casting them, thank you very much. Stupid cloud. Grumble.

Text Cut: Ethan!

"Pretty sure the clouds are just freaking weird and want to look as fluffy as possible," he said, his eyes turning to the boy as ice pelted down on him. It could be true. Uh huh. Clouds have a mind of their own. He was dead sure of it.

Oh look! The boy got it to snow. How did he do THAT?! What was his secret? Spill, weird kid. "Looks like the intent thing worked." Smirk. And even if it hadn't, then Grayson was going to assume it had. Why? Ego reasons, of course! The cloud was already dampening his spirits, this was his only way to gain some self-respect. In a way.

And speaking of the cloud, the fourth year pointed his wand up at it and cried, "Finite!" No more hailstorms. Thank. MERLIN.

"Stiricidium Nubila!"

Aargh. Marigold was okay and all, except for the fact that her head seemed to have an affinity for BEING HIT BY HARD THINGS! and yet she was wary to start again. She wrinkled up her nose and looked around for the various damage. Gray seemed to be having a lot of trouble, but someone else (Ethan) actually got it. Marigold considered sticking her tongue out at him, but that would be petty. Instead, she decided to try again. She waved her wand and said, a little meekly BUT SHE HAD BEEN HIT BY A ROCK FOR MERLIN'S SAKE, "Stiricidium Nubila!"

…. frozen water was kind of like snow, yeah?

"Please be snow, please be snow," Zander whispered to himself. He watched his cloud eagerly in anticipation. Still nothing. But the cloud looked really good? It was all big and stretched and it most certainly looked like a snow cloud. It felt like a snow cloud. It probably smelled like a snow cloud too, if they even have a smell of course. But whatever his cloud actually was, it wasn't snowing.

In fact... It wasn't really doing anything? What. But it LOOKED so perfect. Maybe he had to wait a little longer? GAH. Transfiguration. More like transFAILuration.

please don't let me be miunderstood

Cotton. Birds. Was she supposed to be glad that there were no hails like people around her? Third time's the charm, Leah told herself, and focused on her cloud.

"Stiricidium Nubila!" she said confidently, aiming at the cloud and swirling her wand counter-clockwise. It started to turn darker just like it had on her first try. Please snow. Please.

And there was snow! Cheering, the second year waited for it to snow more before stopping it.

"Look at you. You've really got the hang of it now." She was anxious to see if she could get her cloud to snow again... if that really was snow. "Stiricidium Nubila!'' This time it was snowing and there was no denying it. "I think I've got it." AJ couldn't wipe the smile off of her face. This was an advanced spell, the professor even said so, and she had mastered it.
"I know you are and I'm messing right back at you.'' Adi grinned and stretched out a hand under AJ's cloud. White stuff landed on it. It was indeed snow. "I will. Just let me know when you're having back luck with a spell. Or anything.'' Because he'd always be there to help.

Why not have one more go? "Stiricidium Nubila!'' Cue the wand movement. Annnd there was more snow! Okay. He had mastered it so he continued to watch AJ practice. "Great job!'' he said when her cloud started snowing again. He was right with his initial speculation during his and AJ's duel in the Arena. She was brilliant.

Ethan laid on his pile of snow as he plucked out the twigs and leaves that was stuck on his hair and uniform. Man, this spell is insane! The Slytherin looked back at the older Slytherin boy and sat up straight. He did look frustrated and all that. Pity. He could share his snow if he wants though? But judging the boy, he’s not the type who’d go that low. Yeah, yeah, ego. Mordred got lots of that. His attention went from the Slytherin to a Hufflepuff (Marigold). Was she watching him? Them? Nonetheless, she got a grin and a nod. No snow for her yet, huh? Good. Luck.

SPOILER!!: Grayson!

Grumble.

Now back to toughie looking Slytherin. “Yeah, it’s the cloud.” He said as he looked up at his own. He was being a good Snake, see? Making him feel better and all that. “Moody thing.” Ethan nodded and watched his fellow Slytherin get pelted with hail. “I guess it worked…but I’d like to think that I commanded it to snow.” What with picturing it to be snowing first before casting the spell. If there was one thing he learned from this class, it would be visualizing what he wanted. Ethan walked over to where the older boy was with his cloud in tow. “I guess Transfiguration requires you to picture things before placing the spell. I think that’s the trick.” Shrug. "It worked for me."See the mound of snow? Yep.

The Slytherin stepped back a little and watched his fellow Snake give his cloud another go. Merlin, his cloud needs to snow soon. That boy looked like he will strangle the nearest person if it didn’t. Not waiting if he produced snow, Ethan decided to walk back to his original spot and try the spell again.

"Stiricidium Nubila!" his cloud grew bigger and darker and produced heaps of snow. "Great. Snowstorm again." Was his cloud that moody? Why can't it produce a normal amount of snow? He stared at his cloud with a scrunched up face figuring out what went wrong. The snow was already up to his waist when he decided to end it. "Finite!"

Brrr...

Soooooo, how long would he have to wait for? Was transfiguration supposed to take this long to show an effect? Zander was starting to grow impatient with his dumb cloud. "Cloud-ia," yes, he named it, he had a lot of time on his hands OKAY? "Why won't you just do something? Anything please?" WHY WASN'T ANYTHING HAPPENING! "Just give me a sign, pleeeeeease Cloud-ia?!?!" he begged. "Cloud-ia I hate you. You don't do anything. Stupid cloud," Ugh moving on to round number three? But, just as he raised his wand to start over again, the cloud started moving. AH FINALLY, something.

But what? Before he could think about anything else, the cloud started producing small cottony pieces of snow. "FINALLY!" He threw his hands up in success. Ah, thank goodness. "Could-ia, I take back everything I said. You aren't stupid. You just needed some time," he explained. "And as your producer, I totally respect that, NOW MAKE IT RAIN SOME SNOW CLOUD-IA!" and just like that little bits of snow kept pouring down from the personal cloud.

Cutty was about to have a good laugh at Sophie Newell, a thought which had interrupted his previous one about being back with his dad for the winter holiday in Canada. And maybe envisioning the landscape of the resort they'd visit would help. It was the wrong vision, however and large starry-shaped leaves began to pour forth from his cloud. Only a few at first, though soon enough it looked as though he had just stomped into someone's recently raked pile of them.

This was a departure. Certainly. Stupid Sophie Newell broke his concentration and it was all her fault. "Finite!" he casted, putting an end to the autumn leaves of red and gold. He held a moment of silence staring up at his cloud. "Stiricidium Nubila!" He held his wand steady and his mind tightly wound around the scent and feel of snow. It was possible. His large, almost buggy brown eyes watched the cloud until nothing seemed to come forth, then he felt it. A cold drop of ice, in a delicate enough measure to have melted almost upon contact with his cheek. He recognized that feeling. Snow.

It seemed like she was always having bad luck. "I'll keep that in mind Rehman." She would take all the help she could get.

"You're a pro." His cloud looked great, and he was now getting the spell to work for him without any problems whatsoever. One more time for her too for good measure? "Stiricidium Nubila!'' Swirly wand motion activated and her cloud too started producing snow. It wasn't as good as Adi's, but it was working and she would take it.

"One more time", Jasmine thought to herself. She had to be able to perform the spell consistently or what was the point? Eager to try again, Jasmine began to concentrate on her cloud. In her mind it was turning darker and darker until it began snowing steadily. Holding on to that vision, she pointed her wand upward. Giving it a counterclockwise swirl, she said, Stiricidium Nubila".

Jasmine was feeling good about this try and she waited expectantly for something to happen. She was not disappointed because her cloud did start to darken just as she'd pictured it. Now if only her snow could happen as planned. After a moment of uncertainty, large flakes of snow began to fall from her cloud. Deciding to enjoy it this time, Jasmine lifted her face to the cloud and allowed the snowflakes to fall onto her face. Feeling the coldness she let the snowflakes melt on her face. Jasmine had a sudden urge to build a snowman, but there would be time for that soon enough when the real snow came. Reluctantly, she raised her wand and said, "Finite". All good things must come to an end.

WHY was this cloud SO STUBBORN? Norah glared at it in its stupid white fluffiness ugh. C'mon cloud! Get mad and turn grey and let it snow! Taking a huffy breath, she pointed her wand at the cloud for the fifty billionth time and said "Stiricidium Nubila!" and once again nothing happened. SIGH. "Stiricidium Nubila!" she tried again, and the cloud enlarged slightly before returning to its original little fluffy state. Even raining birds was better than this. She took a calming breath this time, because all this frustration was enough to give anyone a headache, and pointed her wand delicately at the cloud. "Stiricidium Nubila!" she bellowed. And something...happened. The cloud got bigger and bigger, darker and darker, until it started to...RAIN?!? Norah let the water pour onto her head for a moment before pointing her wand at the cloud and saying "Finite!" At least that spell worked. She crossed her arms. Stupid cloud. Could they eat lunch now?

.................... Oh jeez. Was it not going to snow? AT ALL?!

And what was worse was that Gold had seen. He gave her a thumbs up and watched as her attempt seemed to fail too. WELL then.

Brrr...

Grayson heaved a sigh and turned his attention towards his fellow Slytherin. Talking to someone might just make him feel better and stop himself from doing something stupid like punching a freaking stubborn cloud. Idiot thing that was. "Bet it is. Moody and stubborn." He cast a dark look over his own cloud. A quick, dark look that meant that the boy didn't catch the slowly darkening look of the cloud. "How'd we get stuck with these, eh?"

Commanded it to snow? "So I guess you have to be forceful, huh? Show it who's boss?" He was GOOD at something like that. What more did this cloud WANT?! "Probably. So you know what you want, yeah?" This wasn't bad advice, by the way, but he wasn't going to admit that just yet. Not until he got it to snow as well, like this boy had.

Speaking of the snow and the boy, Grayson snorted as he looked around at the snow, even taking a step back when a snowstorm erupted. A freaking SNOWSTORM! How brilliant was that? "Looks like you were very commanding with it. Maybe your cloud is scared of you, man." And he should be proud of that, m--

................................. WHAT IN THE NAME OF MERLIN.

Grayson jumped. Actually jumped because something landed on his NOSE. Blinking several times, he looked down at the tiny, white snowflake that sat right on the tip of his nose. Was it SNOWING?! The fourth year looked up at his cloud, which was darker and less-fluffy looking -- thank MERLIN -- and seemed to be snowing. Slowly. A flake or two every couple of seconds.

"Now you're just being annoying, cloud."
