Lux had to admit that this was going over her head a little. But she did understand what Professor Morgan was telling her about not knowing for sure if the raccoon had been scared. It was also a surprise that the print wasn't from Hogwarts. Hmmm, interesting. The prospect of going outside wasn't really pleasing either. The colder it got, the less and less Lux wanted to leave the castle. It was very strange and boring for her, but she didn't want to turn into an ice cube. Of course she didn't stay inside ALL the time, but looking out for footprints and studying them seemed pretty time consuming. Looking at the next footprint, Lux raised her hand and said, "I think it's easier to read hooves because they touch the ground more evenly than paws. And I'd guess that the Unicorn was taking a nice stroll in the woods." |
Adi blinked. Alex? Professor Morgan was waaay off. Hehe. Before answering her question, he studied the book once more. "The steps are closer together and the front footprint is thicker.'' He considered correcting her about his name but at the last moment decided not to. Let's see what other awesome names he'd be called. The boy eyes the Unicorn print, sure that AJ was loving that the meeting had now turned to the creatures. He raised his hand. ''Unicorns are four legged so unless something is wrong with a leg or two, the weight distribution will sort of be even.'' Well that's what he thought, anyway. "I'd say this unicorn is just enjoying a stroll.'' |
Leah listened to the difference between the front and back paws and what the print was telling them. It was interesting how the professor could tell THAT much from just looking at... a picture. They were moving outside to look for prints? Clutching her gloves tightly, she took another excited sip of her tea to warm herself up. Leah raised her hand. "Do unicorns walk more evenly then animals with paws, professor? Then the weight will be different and easy to figure out too." she answered. As for what she can tell from the prints.. "I'm not sure, professor. There is only one print on the picture, and it's difficult to tell." the Hufflepuff frowned. |

Lex lazily pointed an index toward the woman and raised a question brow at the Slytherin. "Has that smile left her face since we got in here? You remember the talk we had about Puffers. It isn't normal." Not. At. All. SPOILER!!: Professor Smiles "I'll keep that in mind Professor." Lex said with a nod but really she was focusing on all the grins and smiles going on in front of her. Like........ALL the smiles ever. Were she a little less composed she'd have sat blinking like she was lost to the world but no, she just...pretended like this wasn't the creepiest thing all day. Was Professor Elwood this happy? She couldn't remember but...it must be something in the tea Divi Profs are always drinking........we'll be...keeping an eye on you...yeah. Safety reasons of course. Disappointingly enough she couldn't offer the kind of help Alexa needed to get herself a thestral or unicorn. Just that they were running and not even what they were running from. Shoddy seer powers if you asked her. Only for animals and just what they felt? How in Merlin's beard would that help her? Lex slumped a bit and helped herself to another cookie, letting that question go right over her head. She didn't care about raccoons, she could find one in a pet shop or something when she got home. It wasn't of much importance to her whether it was running or not. The next question though, that one had horse tracks. "Maybe they're easier to read because they aren't as light on their feet as smaller creatures so their prints will always be more defined." She didn't know what was wrong with the unicorn though. Nope. That was Professors Smiles' job. |
Oh goodness.. she was just terrible at this, wasn't she? Nessa bit her lip as she squinted at the posters. She just did not have the gift that Cassie did. She could barely tell what kind of animals they were based on the prints, let alone what the animals might be feeling. But it was so interesting! She wished she could sense what they were thinking or feeling or doing, so she was here to learn like the rest of them. Ichnomancy had not been covered in class by Kapoor. Her thoughts becoming more distracted, she wondered what her old Divination professor would have thought about that particular branch of the subject, then her eyes snapped up upon hearing her name. Hmm? She looked over at Grayson and smiled as she heard Cassie's words. "Oh, I know.. he is a creative soul. Such a wonderful performer too." Really, most everyone in this room had been, but his was one of the more memorable performances of a Muggle. Resting her chin in her hand as she leaned forward, Nessa listened as Cassie explained a little more about the raccoon prints, then she looked up as Cassie locked eyes with her. "Oh! Of course.." She hopped up from her seat and headed to the back of the room. Aries wasn't here yet, but she did say in about a minute. She turned back to pay attention for a few ore seconds, soon feeling fur rubbing against her ankle. "Well, there you are, Aries!" Nessa picked up the fluffy cat. "Do you want to join the club too?" she asked him in a baby kitty kind of voice as she held him, his face close to hers. She carried him back to her seat and held him in her lap, sitting upright like a person would be, his little paws in her hands. A new print. Nessa looked at this one, biting her lip again. Were these students making things up - which she could totally appreciate the creativity - or could they really see something she couldn't. "What do you think Aries?" she asked him in the baby kitty voice. "What is that unicorn feeling?" Using her regular voice this time, she offered as her answer, "Maybe he was cold?" The print was in snow, that could make sense, right? |
Oh nooooo, not outside....again. Why did everyone think it was a good idea to have class outside during the coldest winter in history? Jasmine had gotten used to winter, but not arctic winters. So focusing her mind back on the topic at hand, Jasmine listened to the Professor explain the animal footprints. When she brought up more questions, Jasmine gave each one some thought. Raising her hand, Jasmine tried to tackle one of the questions. "The members of the horse family have prints that look different from the other animals because their hooves are harder and able to make a clearer, sharper impression. They are heavier too so the added weight will help the hoof press down deeper into the earth or in our case snow. Paws are softer and more spread out so the weight is not as concentrated." Jasmine had rambled on so long in answering the question, she almost confused herself. |
WAIT. THEY ARE GOING OUTSIDE!?! Did she learn NOTHING from that Ancient Runes Lesson!? That's it. Maybe the cold really was messing with everyone's heads. It's KIND OF FREEZING out there. The unicorns had the right idea when they ran away from Hogwarts. They were probably trying to escape the INSANE Professors. Hmph. Outside. No freaking way. "A hoof is generally a lot harder than a soft paw print is..." Zander explained. "So the print is a lot more defined, which will make it easier to understand," And that's all he's got. It was not so easy trying to figure out what the print meant because there was only one so it looked completely normal. That and the fact that he was mentally preparing himself for the outdoors. EEEEK! |
Going OUTSIDE? Damian perked up immediately. Although it was excruciatingly cold outside, the firstie didn't mind; winter had always been his favourite time of the year. Containing his glee by clutching his hands together, and slowly rocking back and forth, Damian retreated to his thoughts. Unicorns, huh? He inspected the prints along with the rest of the class, quietly wondering if the Unicorn had been peeing. Yeeeeah, better keep it to your self, Damian. Unicorns were magical creatures, they did not pee. Duh. "I . . . uh . . . I think compared to Mr. Raccoon, a Unicorn'd put more weight into its stride," He said, sucking in his bottom lip, squinting, thinking, "Raccoons are more swift and light on their steps . . . so their paw prints have less definition." Phewww, he felt out of breath. Damian visibly sighed. Why only a single print, though? How would he know? He'd never met a Unicorn before! "Maybe . . . maybe the other legs were in mid-air? Maybe it was running, or cantering?" Hmm, he could already tell his answer was WRONG. Boo. |
Angel looked at the Professor and sighed as AJ tried to ruin her reputation by asking silly question, though with this unicorn thing well seriously she had best stay cool or she would defiantly know something was up because Angel didn't like unicorns as much as AJ did. "O______________o" Angel beamed, now to get into AJ's character. "Do we get to see a unicorn, will I get to ride one." Angel totally freaked out like she knew her sister would in a situation like this. "Can I take one home?" Angel wondered why AJ was like this when it was just a unicorn but well she would stay in character. "Maybe the Unicorn was racing through the snow." Angel beamed. |
Lucy said:" I think that a Unicorn is heavier than a raccoon and the Unicorn leaves a print easier to recognize...Why only a single print?perhaps the unicorn was jumping on one leg?!?" |
She had stopped smiling and became distracted for a moment. Rubbing her temples. Looking back towards the class she paused only to regain her thought process and then smiled hearing a child in midsentence. Quote:

“Now this print was only one for our learning purposes only. I got this print in Hogsmeade the day they joined us for our weekend.” Grinning at the memory of sensing them in the street and shops. “Now this one was right after they had received food from our wonderful Care of Magical Creatures professor. So it had become calm and was just standing. So very good eye for the ones that mentioned standing still.” She pointed towards the back of the print. [b] “If it was running or galloping at a faster pace, maybe getting away from something, you would see snow thrown back. If it’s in mud or sand it will show the same way. The heavy hoof will take the snow, mud, sand, or dirt back with it and that will leave marks to help us read better. Taking another sip of her tea she moved her wand cleaning and vanishing it away. “Now it’s time for all of you to join me outside and become my SNACinators!” She just made that up, wasn’t it just so Perf!! “What we need to do and I need all your help, because with the heavy snow we have to work fast before we lose prints, is to find them and record what you find so we can figure out what is going on with them.” If it was food, she was sure Javy and she could fix that problem and if it was shelter, there could be room in the stables or even maybe the Dungeons? Somewhere warmer at least. “Now if you would grab your things, bundle up, I know you all read my notice and brought your outdoor items. Follow me to the Whomping Willow, I feel like that is the best place to start.” She grinned tapped at her shoes changing them into a cute pair of heeled boots and started to head out the door as she wrapped her cloak tightly around her. Ooc: Alright guys, post gathering your things and head to the Whomping Willow! Thanks for the wonderful and fun Rping that’s going on! I love all your answers and so does Cassie!!! |
Cris listened attentively as the Professor explained how the unicorn's print differed from that of the other prints they had seen. Then she announced that they were heading out. They were indeed going outside! To the Whomping Willow! YAY! Cris mentally cheered. Maybe this time, the Professor would allow him to try touching the tree. He had no such luck when Mo came up him as he was planning to do it the first time. Digging inside his backpack for his winter jacket, woolen scarf, leather gloves and warm woolen beanie, Cris pulled them out. Wrapping the scarf around his neck and placing the beanie over his head, Cris then pulled on his leather gloves before putting on his jacket. He already had on his warmest socks and boots. He was now ready to venture outdoors and face the Whomping Willow. Picking up his backpack, he walked over to join Jasmine, before heading out the room, and following the Professor. |
Adi was surprised at how much he was enjoying this meeting. How unusual since he usually sat there blinking skeptically at the previous Professor. And now they were going outside. Awesome! Even though it was sooo cold, he still loved winter. Adi bundled up with a Hufflepuff scarf, jacket and the other usual other stuff, grabbed some cookies and stuffed them in his pocket. You don't mind, right Professor Morgan? Anyway, he followed the Divination lady out of the door. |
Everything was as expected. The friendliness returned from the wee lil Slyth, Grayson's choice of seating, and the fact that the Divination's Professor was a nutter of the sort that could shame Bentley to an eleven year old Cutty. Just about the only thing that he didn't count on was that she was best friends with the History of Magic Professor. Cutty should've seen that coming. Maybe he needed Divination afterall. The meeting had thus far been a great opportunity for learning. She'd barely said it. But by the time the unicorn prints were being shown, Cutty was already starting to bundle up. This usually took a while as the boy liked to compile layers upon layers upon layers of clothing, as that's what it took to keep him feeling comfortable. When Professor Morgan had announced their departure he was ready and followed suit. |
Oh me my, Professor Cassie was the nicest! Not that the other Professors weren't nice — they were, really — but Professor Cassie made him want to give her a great big hug. He beamed at her, nodded when she instructed them to follow her to the Whomping Willow. Dressed in his warmest, thickest sweater, a green and silver scarf wrapped around his neck, Damian pulled on his mitts and a beanie with a pom on top. Would it be baaaad if he pocketed a couple of cookies? Nope, nope, not at all. Damian stuffed about five cookies in the side pocket of his sweater before leaving for the Willow. Heh. |
Jasmine smiled as she got a positive response fom the Professor. She was glad that at least the Professor had made sense of her monologue. Detailed notes were taken and added to Jasmine's notebook. Then it was time to go outside. Noooooo! Jasmine did not want to go outside, but she supposed that she didn't really have a choice. She started to put on her layers of clothing one after the other. She had so many clothes on it was becoming hard to walk. Jasmine did not plan to freeze today. Just as she was putting on the finishing touches, Cris was ready and they left the classroom together. Off to the Whomping Willow. |
The mention of the Unicorn's print being from the Hogsmeade weekend made Lux really excited. Was it from the mommy Unicorn that she had fed? Probably not since the mommy had been rather hostile at first, BUT STILL. The fact that she had met beautiful Unicorns and had helped out in handling them made this little Gryffinpuff feel so proud of herself. It wasn't because of the extra points she had gotten, it was because helping people made her happy. Since there was no more time to spend inside where it was nice and warm, Lux started bundling herself up in the winter gear she had made sure to bring. Good thing she had remembered a hat, scarf, and a pair of gloves. Hopefully she wouldn't turn into an ice cube. All ready to go, she followed the Professor outside of the room. |
....................... The grinning was still happening and Lex didn't know whether she was meant to offer a smile in return or just sit there staring with a blank expression like she was doing. Somewhere in the back of her mind she was trying to think of another Professor who was this perky but nothing was coming to mind. This lady might have been the first and well...she didn't know what to make of it. In the end she simply gave a firm nod. Yes. Heavy feet. They would hurt. Oh but they were leaving now? That would explain why they'd been asked about the outdoor clothes. The Gryffindor bundled up the best she could and packed a few of the cookies in her bag, you know, for in case she got hungry while they searcched. Was Grayson coming? Some of the class was already gone and she was headed for the outside too. |
To the Whomping Willow?! So not only were they going outside, they were going to the Tree of Death, because that's what Sophie called it. She and SNAC just weren't getting along right now. Nevertheless, she began the process of bundling up and collecting her things. Maybe she'd luck out and somebody would at least start a snowball fight. With that, she followed the professor out the classroom and toward the outdoors. |
To the Whomping Willow?? Arista smiled remembering the adventure she had with AJ and the promise they had made. She loved the Whomping Willow but did she really have to go now...Wasn't it cold? Sigh she was going to have to do deal with it. She packed up all her things and followed the class out to the cold outdoors. |
Leah listened to the professor's explanation and grinned when she said that they were going outside. To the Whomping WIllow? Wasn't that place kinda dangerous? But the Hufflepuff still put on her gloves and made sure that her hat and scarf were on tightly before picking up her bag. Catching up with the club members, Leah followed the professor out of the room. |
*catches up* SNACinators?... Okay. Maybe the Professors were really going insane afte rall. Ugh. This meeting is so not worth the cookies. THE WHOMPING WILLOW? They really do want all the students to die. So it's STILL FREEZING and THE WHOMPING WILLOW?!?! There has got to be some Hogwarts rule about this or something. And it's snowing SO much that they probably wouldn't be able to find anything too good anyways... So what's the point. Gah. Gathering his belongings, though reluctantly, Zander made room for everything in his backpack. He was running a little behind everyone because it takes precision to put everything away so that it'd zip up, okay? And with that he was off to the bitter cold weather and the animalistic tree. What a joy. |
Sooo AJ didn't get a chance to answer the professor's questions because she was still noming on cookies, and well she couldn't be blamed for that. She was totally taking mental notes though and she would be able to look at them for future reference. They were going outside already? She knew that it was coming, but she was still having a hard time understanding why they ALWAYS had to go outside for something. She bundled herself up nice and warm and followed the leader out into the cold... yay! |
Heading back into the Serenity Room for the second time in a little while, Lux was still amazed by how pretty everything was. Professor Morgan totally got props from her when it came to decorating AND cookies. Taking a seat on one of the comfy pillows, she straightened out her red dress then used the hot air spell to warm herself up. It really was a lot colder in the castle wearing a dress. Now she needed her Lion to arrive. |

"Hey Cucumber" he said as he went to go sit beside her.. "this room.. is we… calming" thats the best word he could have chosen at that moment. |
