Default the Office of Professor Flamsteed

Perhaps the first thing you notice as you enter Professor Flamsteed's office is that it is...clean. Ridiculously clean. While he is not exactly obsessive compulsive about cleanliness, Professor Flamsteed highly values organization and keeps everything in a specific location. Needless to say, if one of his quills is at an odd angle ... he will notice. The wood cabinets above his desk are filled with all sorts of reference books on all branches astronomy on the left side while the right side is filled with works of muggle science fiction ranging from Douglas Adams to H.G. Wells to Robert Heinlein and everyone in between. His desk is mostly empty except for some black accents and a comfortable looking pink pillow where the professor's pet rock, Pebbles, is currently resting. Beside this is a plant in a unique looking planter.

On the walls are a few framed pieces of abstract line and paint splatter artwork that Professor Flamsteed has collected over the years along with a drawing given to him by a former student in a black frame. Beside it is yet another drawing, this one signed, in another black frame. There is a black sofa up against one of the walls with a pet house on the floor beside it where Pebbles sleeps when not on the pink pillow on the desk. To the right of the black sofa and is a wooden closet where Professor Flamsteed keeps a few freshly pressed suits from his extensive collection, just in case, and to the left of this is a rather impressive looking tie display case. Located opposite of Professor Flamsteed's desk is yet another display case, but this one is filled with all sorts of muggle science fiction models that he has built and painted himself - a hobby of his when he is not busy teaching, grading, or researching. To the left of this case is what appears to be a muggle telephone booth, but upon further inspection of it you will find Herschel scurrying about within.

OOC: please do not post here without having been invited in by Professor Flamsteed from the waiting area or else risk your post being unceremoniously deleted.

"Your flattery, while an appreciated human gestured, is entirely unnecessary," he replied, just barely containing a smirk. He also did a fierce Klingon impression, but putting on those prosthetics took much longer than slipping on vintage Vulcan ears. Maybe some other time. Halloween perhaps....hmmmm.

Hiding a....The astronomer suddenly erupted into fit of maniacal laughter at the image of his office being used for such a thing. As if a wizard like him were capable of keeping a being with such superior intellect as a Vulcan trapped within. Magic aside, he was confident that a Vulcan would still be able to figure a way to bypass enchantments and escape. "My office is no brig," he chuckled. "Unless you want to count my action figures."

Yeah, that 'Vulcan face' was gone now and he was back to grinning and somewhat bouncing in place. "If you don't mind my asking, how is it that a young man such as yourself knows of such a timeless work of science fiction?" Which, somewhat answered his question, but not entirely. He would assume that EVERYONE knew of Star Trek, but that was simply an assumption since everyone SHOULD know about Star Trek.
Simon's jaw dropped again. Whaat--- How? he thought but he didn't ask questions. He just blinked his two blue eyes in awe of his Astronomy Professor. Keeping up a good Spock impression was hard, man. Simon had tried to do that with his brother when they were younger but they'd burst into fits of laughter just trying to do so. Spock impressions took dedication.

His office was no brig? Mhmmm.. Sure. That's exactly what someone would say if it was a brig because they wouldn't want to alarm the person sitting on the couch. Mhmm.. Simon still eyed the room skeptically but stopped when Airey mentioned action figures. "So you are hiding Vulcans... sort of...in the form of action figures.. How ingenious," said Simon with a beam as he played along with this all. Hehe. This was a lot of fun. The boy was enjoying himself quite a lot. "Which action figures do you have?" he asked raising his right eyebrow. Simon had a couple at home: Captain Kirk, Spock, Jean-Luc Picard, and Bones. All of his favourites.

How did Simon know about Star Trek? Well that was a long story... "Long story short my dad introduced it to my brother and I when we were little. I think I was seven or eight... I can't exactly remember. My dad's a huge fan and he got both my brother and I into it," he explained. Yep, his dad got the two boys hooked onto it rather quickly. Within two episodes, the boys wanted to know more about this mysterious place. They even would pretend to roleplay it out and take turns being either Captain Kirk or Spock. Oh those were the good days of being a kid. Mhmm.. Besides, Star Trek was one of his favourite muggle television series ever because it had space and all these cool gadgets in it. What wasn't there to like about Star Trek? Everything was awesome.

Or maybe not so much, perhaps he could work with this. "Not exactly, Mr. Hirase," he smiled. "You see, in the universe of Star Trek there are beings that live on other planets. Extraterrestrials, some that are very human looking in appearance. This character, Spock, has a mother who is human and a father who is a species of extraterrestrial called Vulcan."

Was Mr. Hirase still paying attention? Airey was about 97.6% positive that the boy had probably tuned him out by now.

And he was going to continue humming, by the way, just a little more quietly now.

The astronomer smirked and tapped his nose with the index finger of his right hand. "It's working, isn't it?" It was freezing outside and all. And hey, if the Gryffindor thought he was some criminal mastermind then bonus points to him for having a vivid imagination. Airey could appreciate that. He had had one as a student. Still did really.

He was aware that he had just set himself up for what the professor was about to say, yeah? It was TOO easy. "Well, perhaps you should utilize those investigation skills," he winked. Heh. Tooooooo easy.

His brow knotted as his mind briefly went back to his school days. Not even really his school days, he heard whispers in the corridors from students and his own colleagues about him that were not the most friendly of descriptions. "Many things," he elected to say in response. "I wore glasses. Liked science. Enjoyed muggle things with an almost obsessive diligence. Kept mostly to myself. Prime target for those afraid of what is different and looking to flex their peanut sized craniums." He was, of course, a bit of a hypocrite here since he retaliated by pulling pranks, but doing such was more of a means to show his affection.

Yeah, just don't try to make sense of that one. It really only made sense in his own head. Although looking at who on staff he pranked the most, well, there was a prime example of things.

"Just take it slow. It helps. It really helps," he encouraged with a firm nod towards the tea. Ah yes, Mrs. Burbage. "It's Burbage, not Garbage," he replied, eyebrow raised. "I regret that I had to hear about her death from the Daily Prophet, which I believe the library keeps a record of if you want to read the full account there, but the term she came to teach at Hogwarts there was some sort of ancient spirit terrorizing the school and manipulated a flesh eating plant that then devoured her and another visiting professor."

Did he mention he did not enjoy Herbology? Dirt and all that. Reading about it had only solidified his dislike for the subject and general gardening pastime.

He had to admit, he was a little dissapointed that he had been wrong about his centaur theory. But that didn't let him down and he continued to listen. It was..actually pretty cool. "So these Extraterrains" he said as he wrapped the blanket closer around his shoulders before he continued to breathe through his mouth. He was also unaware he said that wrong. "They're like Halfbloods" had to be! "the humans are the muggles and the Extra-something are the magical folks" There was one thing weirding him out though. "Was that ...Halfblood..Spick...or Spock... born in a Volcano?" If he was then that was the COOLEST thing EVER. And made being born in bed at home sound really lame..mweh.

"Wow, if you REALLY did make a freeze ray you aren't the brightest are you?" hmm, back to the rude tone. It was so normal to him that half of the time he wasn't even realising it. And this was the perfect example, it had just blurted out. "I mean, why would you even hint someting like that..it just makes you a suspect" duh. Kevin shifted on the sofa , making sure that the cup of tea wasn't spilled and took another sip.

Why...was he smirking and tapping his nose like that? Kevin raised an eyebrow. "Maybe i should! i mean, i like finding things out..i'm currently trying to figure out why this Gryffindor guy is acting so strange whenever our Head of House is nearby or if i even mention her name" He was still innocent in the sense that he didn't really know much about crushes. Merlin, he had been freaked out when Angel had kissed him...on the cheeks BUT STILL Anyways, one day he was going to find out this mystery!

As the Professor started to open up about his childhood at school, Kevin began to realise that the man had been different as well. "So you were a nerd?" he asked. "Well, i like being by myself. Most people don't even understand my humour" Kevin frowned as he started to pluck on the blanket with his fingers absentmindly. "They call me a freak back home. The neighbouring kids i mean, they saw me doing magic once...well i actually attacked them and thats when they knew i could do something "freakish"" There were no tears no sighs but he just shrugged his shoulders. "That's why i became more...more like a dominant person cause i hate people stepping on me" was he really opening up to an adult right now? Kevin realised it and he quickly took a big sip from the tea, causing his tongue to burn again and he coughed.

"Don't tell anyone what i just said or i will make everyone BELIEVE that you're behind this freezing weather and they'll kick you out of school" deal? deal.

Burbage, Garbage...it was all the same. Kevin shrugged his shoulders and waved his hand in a way that he should continue talking and when he was finished, the second year's mouth dropped slightly. But instead of being horrified by this story, he began to whine. "Oh come on! Bentley told me that the previous Potions Professor set someone on fire and a flesh eating plant even ATE two Professors?!" he sighed heavily. "Why do all the cool stuff happen when i'm not around or maybe not even born yet?! Noooo i get the stupid old age stuff and now this freezing cold to deal with and i'm highly sensitive to getting sick and" the boy continued to ramble on until he was silent and drank the last bit of his tea. His throat was definitely feeling better already.

"AND AN ANCIENT SPIRIT TERROZING THE SCHOOL?!" he suddenly yelled when that part dawned on him a moment later and as he set the cup on the ground in front of him, Kevin huffed loudly and wrapped the blanket around him tighter. "Those Cold Ones and Skygge we keep learning about in Defence class better show up soon or else i have nothing to tell at home" HIGHLY DISSAPOINTED GRYFFINDOR RIGHT HERE!

Waaaaaaaaait a second! He was totally getting sidetracked here wasn't he? "Give me my hat now, okay?"

Manners, Flamsteed, those existed. Mainly when it suited her, apparently, but she did have those. Especially with people she liked. So, of course, she smiled and stepped inside, "Thank you, Professor," see? Manners. It's not like she always entered without knocking or anything, right? Otherwise she would've discovered that innovation lounge sooner than... well, October 1st, many years after she'd been coming to this office.

Anyway...!

The one thing she didn't ask was whether or not she could take a seat because that was incredibly ridiculous. She didn't move anything on the desk as she sat, though, unlike other times. However, Lotus was certain Airey wouldn't mind much if she had, would he?

Two cups were noticed. Her eyes turned to the man, "Were you expecting someone? Or expecting me?" Did Tag tell him she was bound to come eventually? They didn't talk, so she doubted that.

Waaaaaaaaait a second! He was totally getting sidetracked here wasn't he? "Give me my hat now, okay?"

"Extraterrestrials," he corrected gently. "And the species itself is not half human, just that particular one is. But you are correct in comparing him to halfbloods." Wizardingkind versus mugglekind and all that. He wasn't even annoyed that Mr. Hirase had butchered his hero's name, instead being more focused on the fact that the Gryffindor seemed to genuinely want to learn about Star Trek. See? It was amazing like that. Brought people of all different walks of life together. BEHOLD! The power of the Trekkie! "Not a volcano, but on a planet called Vulcan."

Airey raised an eyebrow. Ah yes, the sarcasm was not strong with this one. "Tone, Mr. Hirase, if you truly wish to get your hat back," he warned. As patient as the man was, and amused by the Gryffindor, everyone had their limits. And since the boy was taking the freeze ray talk too seriously, he was going to just skip replying to it.

"Acting strangely? Around Professor Bentley?" he questioned as he served himself a cup of tea. Not the cold care tea, but a sharp peppermint tea. Hmmm... perhaps mystery Gryffindor boy was intimidated by Seren. He had found himself tongue-tied around the woman during the initial months he had been hired. Not nearly as tongue-tied as he had been around Medea or even Calista, but still a stuttering fool. And then there was the Headmistress. She simply made him want to soil his suit sometimes. Terrifying woman, really.

"To put it simply, yes. By the usual social constructs and hierarchies I was. I am sure you can imagine how I initially fared in Gryffindor," he replied with a solemn look. And then nothing short of a miracle happened. Mr. Hirase was telling him about himself in a straightforward and honest way. Sure, it wasn't some long passionate speech about his childhood, but it was just enough to not only explain the second year's behavior, but also confirm what Airey had been suspecting ever since he had first interacted with the boy. They were a like and very much so. "Constantly trying to prove yourself gets tiring after a while, doesn't it," he said after a few moments. His tone not questioning but rather one of stating a fact. "And of course not, Mr. Hirase. What gets discussed in my office stays in my office."

With some obvious exceptions, but this was not one of them.

"Death is hardly something to whine about, Mr. Hirase," he snapped, entirely unimpressed by the boy's dissatisfaction at missing seeing two people killed. "There is nothing 'cool' about it, especially considering how half the Hogwarts population faced that very fate last term with the aging epidemic." His expression still very firm, he half wished Marion would come floating through one of the walls to his office and make a big scene. His own mentor had passed away, Airey's that is, and there was nothing cool about it. Nothing.

His expression softened only a little when he mentioned the Cold Ones and...whatever that one one was. He recalled Medea talking about them when they had been going over class outlines and grading homework together in the staff room. Best to not burst the kid's bubble, right? Considering Medea had heard back from her friend about the creatures and everything recently.

"Only if you say the magic word." Smirk.

Stepping inside and closing the door behind him, he made his way towards his desk and lifted the lid on his tea pot to waft the scent. Hmm, perhaps just a little bit more before serving. The aroma was almost there.

"Not exactly," he mused as he took a seat. "But you have a distinct knock and upon hearing it just now assumed it was you and readied the tea in anticipation that my assumption was correct." Which it had been, so points to him. Heh.

"Shall we dive right in to your inquiries then?"

Okay, excellent! Not expected, yet he probably ought to have some idea as to why she'd come here, right? She had, after all, mentioned it in a literary piece of homework.

Wait, knocking? Her eyebrows went up a little in surprise, while she could recognize steps, she still couldn't tell who it was by their way of knocking. The sixth year didn't even know she had a distinct knock, or whatever. Smile, because why not? "I think you spend too much time in here, Professor." Then again, who could blame him? Temperatures were still incredibly low.

The parchment rested on her lap, and she gave no indication that it was actually for him, "Of course," she said, the sooner the better. Her eyes rested on the teapot for a moment, before finally speaking, "I'm here to discuss my future." Not like in Divination, no, "My actual future, after Hogwarts..." eyes wandering around, briefly, "...you see, I'm still unsure of which path to take. I know I want it to be in Astronomy, but I'm torn between observational Astronomy and Astrophysics." As her Professor, he could have some input on this, right? "I do love the latter very much." BEAM. Seriously, though, "I don't know exactly what my move would be once I get out of Hogwarts and if you could enlighten me I'd really appreciate that." This Hogwartian finally gets out of Hogwarts and then... what? That was scary, she needed answers.

STOP. "Most importantly...," YES, THIS WAS IMPORTANT, "...is there something lacking in my current education that I should look into?" We all know she did not mind EXTRA work AT ALL, so this was extremely important.

Simon's blue eyes widened and became as big as saucers when Airey told him the proper question to ask. So.. So Professor Flamsteed had ALL of the vintage Star Trek action figures? He blinked. Woah. WOAH. His mind had literally been blown. Yep. Simon was fully in awe of this guy now. "That's awesome!" he exclaimed. Could he see his cool set of action figurines or did he have to be initiated into some sort of secret Hogwarts Star Trek fan club that was run by Professor Flamsteed?

He chuckled when Airey told him that his father had just earned fifty points. "Yeah, he's a pretty cool guy," he said and nodded his head. Then he paused, focusing on the fifty points aspect of his comment. Slytherin needed those points.. Hmmm... Could somehow those points earned by his father be transferred to him so that could propel Slytherin forward in the House Cup? No, that wouldn't be possible at all nor would it be worth the try asking. Oh well. "He attends some of the conventions from time to time. Have you been to those?" He assumed that the Professor had been but who knew?

Before he could go on further, Professor Flamsteed was asking him how he took his tea. "With a little bit of milk please," he said with a grin. Yeah, he wasn't big on the whole sugar in tea. He believed that tea was sweet enough on his own.

SPOILER!!: *not sorry about the novel* XD

Wizardingkind versus mugglekind and all that.

"Yeah that..whatever" Kevin said after the Professor had corrected him. "Have you been to that planet Vulcan before?" he asked as he was forgetting that they were discussing a tv show. He took off the blanket that was wrapped around his shoulders and looked at the picture. "So the one with the funny ears and weird eyebrows is Spock?' look at that he had the name right!

Tone. The Gryffindor rolled his eyes. He should ask money for each time someone had told him he should watch his tone. But luckily that was the only thing as the Professor was now asking about the strangely acting student he had mentioned. "Yes! He stuttered A LOT when i met him in the dormitory after i mentioned our Head of House and then when i attacked Bentley" eeeeeeh.... "WHICH WAS AN ACCIDENT!" he shouted just to make sure he had heard him right. "And he totally freaked out and..i don't know.. i'm just curious why someone would act like that i guess" he shrugged his shoulders.

Now that he thought about it, it was really tiring having to prove himself. "Culloden said i'm not the type that wants to prove myself ...like with learning new stuff and such, during detention" he frowned. "He's wrong though" SO wrong.

The Gryffindor narrowed his eyes suspiciously when the Professor made a promise just like that. And then he held out his pinky finger. "It isn't a deal until you made a pinky swear" he said. He had also made a pinky swear with Bentley before a few months ago and she had kept her word after that. At least he thought she did... hmm..

The snap had not been excepted and Kevin flinched for a second before he returned back to his normal expression. "Geez, chillax i didn't mean it like that" he said. "Besides, they're not really gone right? why else would the ghosts roam the halls? what so sad and scary about that?" he didn't quite grasped the concept of Death just yet.

Magic...magic word.....UUUUUUUGH was he serious?! "oh come on! just give it back already, what do you need my hat for anyways? its just taking up space right?" he was NOT saying please. Nuhuh.

The man was certainly interesting, Cassie couldn't deny this. As she watched him and he said he didn't need Cece, "Alright, if you say so." She wasn't certain she believed him though.

Glad he understood and respected the students privacy she made her way into the office. Her green eyes scanned the room as she pulled her purse up further on her shoulder. Gemini and Aries were snoozing out of sight. "Ah well if you go by what that little paper says, than maybe." She knew many things that went into that little piece of parchment.

Turning towards him again she beamed, "I don't want to take up too much of your time. I just find it disheartening that a student, especially one with a leadership would blurt out in my class that you have said numerous times that one of my areas of Divination are rubbish. This was surprising to me, knowing you are a professional educator and I know myself would not go around calling your topics rubbish in front of students, so I know it just has to be a misunderstanding." She was certain of it.

"I would have even just let it go if she wouldn't have brought it up a few times, distracting the rest of the class with her words." She didn't distract for too long, but long enough that Cassie had to stop and speak with her again. She held her green eyes on the professor and her beaming smile never faltering.

Airey was torn between playing up an expression based on feeling insulted or chuckling. He opted to go with the latter since he was sure that if Miss Wisteria had meant to insult him he would certainly know it. "An astronomer who spends too much time in an Astronomy Tower, how preposterous," he jested in return. And he would have her know that he was rather fond of his office for various reasons.

Checking on the tea and finding it to his standards, he poured two cups and pushed one towards the young lady. He did briefly consider the possibility that perhaps she had come to ask him, er, squirm worthy questions since that did seem to be his luck as of late with student inquiries. To his relief, this was not the case.

"Absolutely stellar to hear, Miss Wisteria!" he beamed while offering her a slow, but full of genuine appreciation, clap. "I must selfishly admit that I was hoping we would be having this conversation someday." And if she hadn't come asking him then he surely would have called her into his office and suggested it himself. "Astrophysics is a very rewarding and exciting career path that will require some patience. In order to qualify for an entry level position, you'll need a Bachelor of Science in either astronomy, astrophysics, or physics. Wizarding University can offer you a degree in astronomy, but you may need to take a look at muggle universities if you are thinking about a degree in astrophysics or physics. University can be a bit expensive, but if you elect to attend a muggle one I can see what I can do about setting you up for a scholarship." He had many connections thanks to his status as Astronomer Royal after all.

His picked up his cup of tea and blew gently on it before taking a sip. "I suggest, if you are debating between astrophysics and observational astronomy, that you pursue studies in observational astrophysics and cosmology. Will give you the best of both worlds." He had loads of information to dive into on this - which schools he personally found to be the best and so on - but best not ramble on too much on the off chance Miss Wisteria was not keen on the idea.

He tapped his chin thoughtfully. "The drawback with attending a wizarding school like Hogwarts is that the standard math and science classes that muggle teenagers take in their compulsory education are simply not covered." For good reason, obviously. Those sorts of subjects had been replaced with things far more practical for wizarding youth. "Your knowledge in astronomy is fine." Yeah, possibly a smug look from the man just now. "But if you are sure you can afford to spend some extra time studying things not among the Hogwarts ciriculum, it would definitely be worth it to take some home school courses in calculus and physics specifically. I can set that up for you via owl if you wish."

So much for not rambling, yeah? He was just very passionate and excited that students were taking such an interest in his subject. Two terms in a row now. BOOYAH!

Awesome? Awesome was a complete understatement but he would take it. He was pretty sure that there were no words in the English language that could properly express the level of awesome that was his action figure collection. Some were still in their original boxes. Unopened. Heavenly sigh.

"DOES he now?!" Airey chirped, not sitting on the edge of his seat and propping his head up with his elbows. "Has he ever been to Destination Star Trek London? I frequent there." Even had his own booth every now and again and panel on Star Trek technologies and astronomical phenomenon. Although his personal favorite experience had been his seminar on how to build your own communicator badge. Oh what he would have given to have been able to attend the conventions of the 2000's where he could have shaken hands with THE Captain Picard or THE Spock.

He sometimes thought he had been born in the wrong century. Alas.

Thoughts sidetracked, he was about to ask the Slytherin why he wanted milk when his blue eyes fell on the tea cups. Oh yes, he had asked about the te, hadn't he? How easily one's mind got distracted when Star Trek was the topic of conversation. Pouring the tea, the astronomer added a bit of milk and then passed it to the boy. "Here you are."

He would be having his tea straight today.

"Many times," he smiled. In his imagination that is. Hard to visit an fictional planet in real life after all. Not to mention if said planet actual existed it would still be beyond human technology to reach it. He was still holding out for warp speed to be developed somehow. If it happened soon and was safe, then perhaps there could be a field trip in the future. The man could dream, couldn't he?

He...what? The astronomer blinked curiously at the Gryffindor. Did he have a knack for wanting to attack professors? He had been a little too eager when it came to their duel. He should probably be a bit concerned. "Accident, of course." You know what else was an accident? When he had Full Body Bind hexed Mr. Hirase that one term. Just sayin'. "Well, have you asked him what gets him so nervous around Professor Bentley?" If he had a galleon to bet, he would put it on the boy believing the rumors that she fed bad students to flesh eating plants.

Er....what? Airey's eyes crossed briefly as his eyes focused on the outstretched pinky finger before him. Teenagers had strange...customs. But alright, if it really meant that much to the Gryffindor he would indulge the request. "Er...alright then," he nodded as he offered his own pinky for the boy to do...whatever it was that this pinky promise entailed. There would be no spitting or anything like that involved in this, right?

He was not going to...chillax or whatever. Not when it came to this particular subject. Instead of answering the young man directly, he simply knotted his brow and folded his hands together on his desk. "No, Mr. Hirase. That is not the case. But perhaps these concepts are best heard directly from the source or from Professor Romanos." Both could provide him with more insight than he.

Taking up space? Hardly. It was even sitting on its own shelf in his tie closet. Not that such details were all that important to the Gryffindor. "Well, it looks like I will be holding on to it for a little longer then."

Maybe Mr. Hirase would get it back by the time he graduated?

He did say so. No Cece. Even had had his apple today so, no thank you. Not that he was a man that believe in superstitions like that. Completely and utterly illogical. Besides, if one were to eat too many seeds over the course of ones life, it would be the death of a person.

But that wasn't the point.

"Little paper?" he questioned, rubbing the back of his neck like an awkward first year. "Oh, you mean the Aparecium? I don't bother to read that." Not unless it flew right into his face as it had done during the opening feast. "I prefer students not pry into my private business, so only proper to return that respect and not pry into theirs." Just his personal stance on gossip in general really. Gossip was only loosely based on fact and, well, loosely based was usually not enough to merit his time. Unless it was science fiction. Always an exception to things. Always.

Oh, well then. Getting right to it then. His hand that had just been about to extend towards the sofa to offer her a seat quickly snapped back to his side while his face practically had NEVER MIND! AWKWARD! written all over it in bright red bold lettering. Which only became worse as she went into detail about the purpose of her visit. His grip tightened around the cookie basket thing and he blinked at his colleague several times as he processed?

"Rubbish?" he repeated, his head cocking to the side. "I have not used the word rubbish in my classroom to describe your subject nor anyone else's and would never instill that sort of vocabulary in my students." He may call Divination rubbish in his head, however, but that was of little consequence to the conversation at hand. "The only thing I stress to my students is that they do not mix up Astronomy and Astrology. Surely you can understand the annoyance of having your subject confused with another and therefore mixing opposite concepts and ways of thinking together that confuse the student and cripple them in their studies?"

And really, astrology WAS rubbish as far as he was concerned. No scientific evidence to prove that it actually worked but mountains on how it did not work.

"What brought on the conversation?" Because he needed the full picture of what had gone on so he could evaluate the situation fully.

Simon nodded his head rather excitedly when Airey asked him if his father had been to conventions. Yep, he knew of Destination Star Trek. That was the convention usually held in October, right? He had heard the name nearly a thousand times this past year. "Yes, my father has. He tries to go to that every year cause he usually has a business trip around the time the conference is on. So he takes time to go and visit it. He sometimes likes to dress up as Bones," he explained. His father would always get so excited about it. Sometimes he'd even dress up as Bones. Once Simon had asked his father if he could go but his father simply shook his head and told him that he could go when he was older. He had asked when he was seven and now the boy was fourteen. At that time, the boy had tried to hide in his father's luggage; however, he was way too big to fit in there. If only he had known that he had magical abilities and had known the perfect spell to use then he could have fit in the luggage."I've never been to it before. I'd really like to go." The serious Slytherin had a huge grin playing on his lips and he was bouncing with excitement.

Ah tea! "Thanks, sir," he said with a wide grin and then took a sip of his tea. Ahh.. It was nice. It reminded him of when his family played cards at home after dinner.

Many times? Kevin looked at the Professor suspiciously. Was he telling the truth or just joking? He couldn't tell since he was smiling while saying it. So...he had been to that planet? "I wanna go there, just to see what it looks like" he said. "What is an officer by the way?" because he had mentioned that one of them was one. "Are they like Aurors?"

Kevin didn't like that tone. It sounded like he wasn't believed and the Gryffindor folded his arms defiantly while leaning back on the sofa. "What does that mean? 'accident, of course' ...you don't believe me do you?!" He'd probably looked more intimidating if he hadn't been wrapped up in a Star Trek blanket and having a red nose and cheeks but yeah. He was trying.

The boy unfolded his arms and suddenly leaned forwards as he became interest by what he was saying. Asking Zander what was wrong with him? "That is BRILLIANT! ...i can corner him and threaten and force him to tell what is going on!" His eyes glinted and a grin formed on his lips.

When the Professor looked confused when he had put his pinky finger up, Kevin laughed. Do you old people really not know what a pinky swear is?" seriously...were they THAT old? Maybe he should see if Botros knew about it. But anyways, he wrapped his own pinky around his and then grinned. "You also remember that i'm sick right? " MWUAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh wow, it seemed that he wasn't going to chillax. Merlin's beard he even folded his hands together on the desk! Kevin frowned. Not the case? what did that mean? "Why should i ask her?" dude this was confusing. ......Not as confusing as Culloden being super nice to him though. Now THAT had been confusingly creepy.

ASDFSLKGLKAGHGLAJ HE WAS SERIOUS WITH THAT WASN'T HE?! Kevin jumped up from the sofa, the blanket falling off of him and balled his fists as he glared. He was the type to be calm in one moment and explode the next. "You're JOKING right? Just give it back NOW. Why do i have to say ple---...the magic word?" He had almost said please just now. Oops. If only he had his exploding potion with him, he would have dropped it right now and search for the hat during the chaos. But it was under his bed in the dormitory.

That didn't mean he couldn't go, grab it and do something about the seating area outside. "If you don't give it back i'll just take something from you" He stooped down to grab the Star Trek blanket off of the floor and grinned as he held it in his arms.

"You're not getting this back for a year" and with that he walked towards the door.

BOOYAH!

Wrong. That wasn't exactly what she meant, but she did smile at him and shook her head ever-so-slightly, "I meant the office, you could spend all the time in the Observatory, really." Though, as much as she loved Astronomy, she wouldn't stay up here in the tower 24/7, you know? People to see and food to eat didn't exactly match the rules set up by Professor Flamsteed. She did wonder how exactly was he able to tell that his students didn't snack in the Observatory or kissed in the Planetarium, hmmmm?

Not that she had done any of those, but still wondered.

AND TEA! "Why, thank you." She beamed at him as she took her cup. Raspberry tea, as usual. Perhaps she should've brought a little something to eat with this, since eating was allowed in his office.

His reaction did not surprise her at all. She knew he'd be delighted to hear this. What she was looking forward to were those words necessary to aid her mind. And she was getting them. LOTS OF THEM, TOO. With a wide smile on her face, Lotus listened and nodded at the right places. Patience, she had it, it wasn't something to worry about. Oh, THERE IT IS! She knew the wizarding world offered Astronomy, but there was something else she wanted to know as well, "If for some reason I choose to attend a wizarding university first, there wouldn't be any issues with furthering my studies in the muggle world, right?" Well, she kind of wanted to know all she could before making a decision, but..., "I really wouldn't mind going to a muggle university from the start, though," TRUE, she sort of already did when she attended Parsons this past summer. Of course, it was only a course, but it was all very muggle. She didn't mind it one bit.

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT.

Observational astrophysics and cosmology. GASP. Wait, that was a thing! Her exterior remained cool and smiley as she sipped some tea from her cup, but she was pretty much dying inside because HELLO UNIVERSE! "I'm interested, go on...," chances are she'd be incredibly indecisive about which path to take, but at least she'll have all the information necessary. AND, this is exactly why she was asking Airey, because he knew way more than she did and could actually help.

Drawbacks? Heh. No, that was no drawback. She even smiled a bit more and nodded again, yes, she knew they didn't exactly share the same curriculum, but she had no doubt she'll be able to understand all of it. A smirk formed on her face and she sipped more tea. More than fine, surely, given her teacher. "Oh, I wouldn't mind at all, and I definitely have the time to take extra subjects." She, sort of, already, had studied for NEWTs through Alec's notes, and she'll have a lot of spare time over summer and next year. This was no issue. "I'd appreciate that, really." He knew best, soooo if he already knew someone who could be of help, bring it on.

Of course, she could also review things on her own.

Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something...

She chuckled as he talked about the Aparecium, “Oooohh I just loved it back in the day. It was so fun to read. It’s always been just in good fun. You know we are in it too at times.” She had just been in it recently. “Well if it’s near I read it. I like to know things. I feel like if conflict could happen around me, it’s best to have the heads up.”

Her green eyes glanced around the room, it could use some more color she figured, but he was a man, so she didn’t think too much into it. He really wouldn’t mind if she sat, right? Making herself comfortable she set down her purse. He looked up at him.

Watching as he said the word again, her smile only grew at his answer. “Wonderful, I just knew it was miscommunication.” She shook her head about, see Miss Cambridge she was right. “She was just determined that’s what you had said about Astrology. I really thought I was going to have to take points and that would.. no that wouldn’t not have been nice.” She didn’t even like the thought of it. Listening to him longer she just smiled and waved, her hand, “Oh I can certainly understand that. One needs to know the difference for the different courses.” This was good, she was glad she had come to visit the man. Maybe they had just got off on a bad start. She really hoped not, but it could all be fixed now.

She was just about to ask him if he had Valentine’s Day plans when he asked a question. Oh goodie she could talk about her very first lesson. The blonde got excited and snapped a bit, “It was just so excited and so much fun. Since it’s Valentine’s Day, I wanted to have a really fun lesson. So we made birth charts and learned about our Astrology signs and which ones were compatible with our signs. Using the birth chart they had to find people in the room that were compatible with their sign and make them Valentine’s Day cards. So learning and a way to show friendship among students. “ The perfect plan if she could say so herself!

SPOILER!!: Simon!

Really? Wait? REALLY?

Now, the professor was rather awkward in most social situations, save for Star Trek conventions because he was surrounded by other intellectuals and socially anxious people like himself. So he thrived there. Proper social butterfly truth be told. So he had made his rounds and gotten to know a lot of the usual convention goers. Tried to even form his own crew with those who came in costume. You know, more bonding and social networking. He, of course, went as Spock seeing as someone a flashy and Casanova as Captain James T Kirk just was not in his repertoire - even if he did have a very brief acting background. "I reckon...I've run into your father then," he replied slowly while squinting curiously at the boy as leaned forward a bit in his seat to get a better look at his features. "Should convince him to take you the next one. Stellar experience, really. Were I to have a son, Merlin forbid, I would most certainly be taking him each year." Daughter too, obviously. But they were talking about Mr. Simon's father-son relationship and not father-daughter.

"Quite welcome. Afraid I have no biscuits to go with it at the moment, although I could call on one of the house elves," he nodded. He did have a small stash of goodies his sisters had sent him, but those were being rationed at the moment. "Now, you had questions about...the technology in Star Trek, yes?"
SPOILER!!: omg he didn't >_< not replying in depth so much since he is leaving XD

He shook his head. "Aurors would be more like the commanding officers rather than science officers, but officer is really just a fancy term for a person who has been assigned to work on a spacecraft."

Folding his hands one over the other, he leaned forward on his desk so he was somewhat looming over the young Gryffindor with an amused smirk. "No no, not disbelieving you per say, Mr. Hirase. Most amused at how quick to judge you are when you condemned me for the same slip up. Accidents do happen." Not so nice when the same shadow of doubt was being cast on yourself when you were, perhaps, telling the truth. Airey still wasn't entirely convinced that Mr. Hirase was, by the way, but it only drove his point home further.

"Or, you could attempt to make a proper friend and ask him," he shrugged. "If you continually act so aggressively you will only continue to push people away and be alone." His tone was rather deadpan, not ridiculing nor seeming disappointed in the boy's actions. It was more of an observation he had seen over the terms he had been the young man's instructor. "Gryffindors are independent by nature, but even lions belong to a pride and those that wonder alone are doomed."

Giving their hands a small shake now that their pinky's were entwined, Airey simply shrugged his shoulders and, after letting go, reached for some disinfectant wipes from his top desk drawer and used them on his hand. BEAM.

"As your Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Professor Romanos is well versed in ghosts," he nodded.

He...what? Surely he wasn't serious? Oh, well, look at that. He was. AND HE WAS TAKING HIS VINTAGE HANDSEWN ONLY TEN LEFT IN THE WORLD 100% COTTON STAR TREK BLANKET!! Airey was quite literally THIS close to doing something that he would very much regret later and his fist closed so tightly around his wand under his desk that it was a wonder the wood didn't snap in two. But if Mr. Hirase was anything like he had been as a student, he was expecting a reaction. A big one. So he ought not give it to him.

Although HOW was that possible?! HIS BLANKET THAT HE NEEDED TO SLEEP AT NIGHT WAS BEING TAKEN RIGHT UNDER HIS NOSE!

"I was trying to teach you a lesson in humility, Mr. Hirase," he smirked, his tone reminiscent of a muggle supervillian. Really, all he needed now was the head thrown back and evil cackle to complete the image. "But I see I will now have to deal with things....differently." SMIRK.

And just for slightly added effect, he waved to the boy as he made his way towards the office door. He would be seeing you soon, Mr. Hirase. Very soon.

MWAHAHAHAAHAHAHA

He knew that. Totally knew that. Had clearly just been testing Miss Wisteria's humor button. Yep. That was the story he was going to stick to in his mind as he smiled and grinned at her in reply.

Blowing over the surface of his tea to cool it just enough to take a healthy sip from it, he swallowed and shook his head at her question. "Not at all. That is precisely what I did. Although at the time I was still considering my career options and was not as sure of my future as you were. Becoming an astronaut was certainly on the table, but I wanted a bit more range under my belt and attended Wizarding University in Edinburgh for the purpose of receiving double degrees in Astronomy and Experimental Magic. I also was an intern during this time at the Institute of Astronomy to get some extra experience in the field to set me apart from other applicants when I applied for the doctoral degree program at Queens' College in laboratory astrophysics."

He was...a little all over the place in terms of focus - a reflection of the man himself really - but it had gotten him where he had wanted to go. Other things had just, well, prevented him from achieving his ultimate goal.

"Well, I think this pamphlet can give you some information," he said as he reached into his drawer and handed her one from a well known muggle university. It summed up the field right there in the first sentence really. "Universities in Europe offer the same program, but I personally endorse this one." He had a colleague there as a professor. Heh.

"Stellar," he grinned, clasping his hands together before reaching for a memo pad to jot down some notes to remind him to take care of that later. "Unfortunately, my only means of correspondence is owl post...so until this blizzard clears up I can't begin getting that set up. But I personally guarantee that by midsummer it will be. Klingon's honor."

He had never been a fan. It merely came off as a pitiful excuse to pry into other's personal business and he found it ridiculous. Personal business was called such for a reason and all that jazz. "Yes. I've heard," he grumbled. But...know things? Based on gossip? As in basing this knowledge of things on casual or unconstrained conversation and reports about other people involving details which are not confirmed as true and many of the times a convoluted form of truth based on lies? No wonder she was a Divination professor. "I'll stick to my Sky & Telescope and Astronomy Now. No offense."

He wasn't going to sit down, by the way. Feeling far too squirmy and awkward still to do so. Instead he kept patting his trouser pocket to continually check that the box was still in there. It was. Obviously. Wasn't like it was going to grow legs and crawl out of his pocket or anything like that. He grew even more fidgety when his colleague sat down. So...this meant she was staying longer then? Did that mean he should make some tea or something? Erm.

"I may not have said it out loud, but I don't agree with it and would throw a student in detention were they to confuse my subject with it and have taken points on multiple occasions for the same offense," he replied, words just coming out like word vomit as his brain had essentially turned off. Nerves you see. He was into brutally honest scientific mind zone. But she was sort of asking for his true opinion on the matter. Bunch of pseudoscientific hokum as far as his opinion is concerned.

And he was blinking now. Lots of blinking...because that didn't exactly answer his question and could instead feel his jaw clenching as his back teeth pushed down on each other with so much force it was a wonder that they didn't chip under the pressure. See? That was another reason he was far from a fan of the subject. Compatible signs. Good Merlin. Imagine if NASA assigned astronaut teams based on such rubbish. Was the woman aware of the studies that had been done in Flim Flam!? How astrologers couldn't tell a killer from a grocer? He wasn't about to let some birth chart tell him who he should and shouldn't be friends with.

"So...the student outburst happened....with the friendships being based on the compatibility of signs?" he questioned. Because that would have been his personal breaking point. He was still trying to piece together which student it was as well, flip flopping between the same too, but he was starting to lean towards a certain Gryffindor who was more prone to be vocal than the typically level headed yellow hating young woman.

Testing, testing, riiiiiight. The grin was clearly appreciated, as it brought one to her face as well.

Oh? Wow, this was interesting, then. And for a while, her tea was completely forgotten. Her eyes were brightened by this very short story of... well, how Airey Flamsteed came to be, because she was finding out a part of his story that she should've known sooner. Sure, she knew about the astronaut part, she vividly remembered that day, but career-wise, she's just found out which path Airey took. This only made things a bit more difficult in terms of choosing. The sixth year just stared at him entirely marveled by the words she was hearing. It didn't come as a surprise to her, to know what he had done, since she could easily see it in the lessons he'd taught, but it was so interesting to hear this side of the story. "Did it all start with the idea of becoming an astronaut?" Honestly, she was curious and meant well with this question.

Finally taking another sip, Lotus left the cup on the desk as she gently took the pamphlet from Airey. She smiled as she read most of it in a matter of seconds. And bit her lip because excitement, yo! "Wait...," something clicked as her eyes kept on scanning the parchment, "...California?" It was rather amusing, if one thought about it, that America held a possibility of teaching her once again. She did attend a muggle school of design for her Illustration course this past summer. Summer. Her smile faded a little, the future seemed both too close and too far away at the same time. She shook her head to clear her mind and the smile slowly returned, "I'm actually going to California this summer. If the weather lets us out of this castle, that is." So, perhaps she could visit Stanford while she was there. Surely, she could convince Lex to tag along, she'd hate to leave her bestie on her own. "Are there any options in England or close by?" If he didn't know, Lotus will be definitely finding out a lot more information over the summer.

Also, she just remembered about the parchment on her lap. Okay, she'll give it to him soon, like..., in a couple of minutes. Let's not get him sidetracked right now.

Yes! More study! More things to keep her entertained next year! This was altogether excellent! You have literally no idea how excited Lottie was about this. "It's perfectly fine, midsummer works best, anyway." Because of trips. Yes, trips, plural. Sorry we can't join you, Airey. "Good. Death before dishonor." Klingon. A bit on the grim side, the comment, but it's always been that way with Astronomy.

Airey may have run into his father and neither party had informed Simon of this? He'd have to ask his Dad to take him to the next conference. Or maybe Simon would save up enough money to attend for himself. "You have? Merlin. He usually dresses up as Bones," he explained chuckling a little. Simon was about to hint at the fact that Airey could take him but he supposed that he ought to get to know his Professor a bit more before heading off to the Star Trek conference. In the meantime, he'd work on persuading his father."I'll work on convincing him. It seems like a blast," he said as he too started getting more excited. The very thought of attending that conference was making him hyper!

Simon shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly. "That's alright, sir," he said with a grin. He didn't need any biscuits with his tea. Biscuits were nice but were not necessary at all. Right! Questions about technology. That HAD been about what he was asking the Professor about. "Yes! I was wondering whether or not you think that we'll be able to harness the technology to build spaceships like the USS Enterprise?"

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Accidents do happen? Kevin still firmly believed that the so called "accident" hadn't been an accident at all. Who opened a door and immediately stun people? That wasn't an accident, that was planned attack. Okay maybe not planned BUT IT WAS AN ATTACK

Kevin merely shrugged his shoulders as he let it go for now though, he had already gotten his revenge by having a duel with the man. Which he sadly lost.

At his next words about making a proper friend, Kevin rolled his eyes. He didn't need anyone as he could take care of himself perfectly fine. And for the record, he didn't act aggressively. Others were just weak and couldn't deal with his awesomeness! Still, his words did seem to make him think for a moment. His mother would be so dissapointed if he came home for the second summer break while at Hogwarts (if they even got summer , stupid snow) and not to mention how his father would react if he had to tell stories of how friendless he had been. Maybe Zander wanted to be his friend? But the guy was acting weird and Kevin wanted to know what was up with him so badly.

To be honest, Kevin had only picked up the blanket and walked to the door with it in the hopes of getting a reaction out of it. A trade. The blanket for the hat. What he got instead made him turn around at the door and raised his eyebrow at the tone in the man's voice. Okay...this was kinda creeping him out but he pretended that it didn't by narrowing his eyes. Although this time it wasn't a glare, it was in suspicion. Whatever he meant, Kevin didn't like it and when he saw the wave, the second year dashed away going straight for the Gryffindor dormitory to grab his exploding and fireworks potions ...just in case he needed them.

SPOILER!!: the future astrophysicists!

A bit on the grim side, the comment, but it's always been that way with Astronomy.[/QUOTE]

He leaned back in his seat a little, his expression neutral for the most part but still with a slight grin on his face. "In a sense, yes," he chuckled as he remembered his 4-year-old self having his life changed forever all because of a muggle TV program his father suggested he watch. "Although it was really more to do with the immortal words spoken by William Shatner. Space the final frontier....to boldly go where no man has gone before... really resonated with a scrawny boy with bug eye inducing glasses."

And yes, back then it had been the ultimate goal to become the next captain of the Enterprise - before he knew his own strengths, obviously - but after the episode finished all he could do was turn his gaze skyward.

Looking a bit starry eyed, he shook his head and snapped his blue eyes back towards the sixth year. Was there...something wrong with California? Perhaps it was too far away? He understood how some parents could be about their children going away to such far distances. But to his relief it wasn't that at all, but rather that she just so happened to be going there. If he had any faith in such things, he would have joked that he was a Seer. But even joking about such a thing was preposterous. "Well, what a happy coincidence!" he exclaimed, clearly pleased by this development. "The University of Oxford and University of Sussex both offer stellar programs. The physics and astronomy programs at Sussex were actually ranked number one this past year, but in terms of a global scale both fall below Stanford in the rankings." Still nothing to frown at. Both were fine institutions. Any of the three would be lucky to have Miss Wisteria as a student.

Oh be still his beating heart! His smile curled up into a giddy smirk. "Precisely," he gushed. "I would also recommend you get in touch with Miss Fischer, when it became possible. She is studying astronomy at university as well and may be able to provide you with further tips about the process."

"Funny you should ask that," he grinned as he rolled his chair back towards one of his book shelves. "As you are probably well aware, in Star Trek lore, the first Constitution Class Starship Enterprise will be built by the year 2245. Back in 2011, an engineer has outlined in meticulous detail a plan for building a full-sized, ion-powered version of the Enterprise complete with 1G of gravity on board. Even proposed it could be done the technology of that time within 20 years. Unfortunately, NASA hasn't taken the proposal seriously yet although they did accept his blueprints. "Ah, here it is. Build the Enterprise by BTE Dan," he read as he rolled back towards his desk and passed the black minimalist looking book to the Slytherin. To each their own she thought as she shrugged his I’ve heard off with a smile. She didn’t care what the others thought, but if there were going to be two children trying to hex each other in the classroom because of some ‘rumor’ she wanted to have a heads up and that little paper was just the thing to help her stay in that crowd control loop. “Oh I be that’s interesting too. “ Cassie loved reading, so anything new was always welcomed, maybe she’d even have to look at it.

Her green eyes widened a bit, he would what? Then she started giggling and snapping, “Oh that’s so funny, you are such a funny man. Throw a poor child in detention just because they confuse a subject. Good one. “ No one would ever throw a child into a detention just for confusion. Oh she knew better, professors were to teach the difference and help them with their confusion, not scare them into hating things.

She switched legs that were crossed and glances at her kitty purse, the two little ones she never went anywhere without were still hidden away snoozing. She glanced back up that the man as he questioned when the child called her lesson rubbish on account of him. “No it had been at the very start of class. We were speaking of Astrology and what it was and she immediately started about you calling the subject rubbish. When I told her that I think she misunderstood you, because I just know an educated man like yourself wouldn’t be belittling someone else’s career or topics of that career in front of students, Miss Cambridge went on again how you have multiple times.” She kept her sweet smile through all of this, because of course it was a misunderstanding and she was now going to get that misunderstanding fixed.

Airey stood in the middle of his office, about two thirds of the way towards his desk from the door, and simply stared at the Ravenclaw as he sat in the professors seat and began to spin around. He found himself contemplating freaking out that HIS seat was now going to have a different, er, imprint on it and therefore ruin the years and years of perfecting his own personal comfort....or giving Mr. Scabior some advice on how to spin faster. The deciding factor came down to which was less likely to make the boy cry and, judging how his last outburst had gone, the answer was obvious.

"If you slip your shoes off and tuck your knees into your chest you can spin faster." Not that he did that recently or anything. Ahem.

And since he wasn't going to sit anywhere but his own seat...he stood by his desk with his left hand resting on he and leaning into it. Just being casual here, sort of.

GASP! "I will never give you detention for asking a legitimate question, Mr. Scabior," he chuckled. Especially not one that was a non-insulting one about Star Trek. He didn't still think he actually had a detention, did he? No matter, far more important parts of conversation to have now. STAR TREK. "In general, muggle science fiction makes all sorts of predictions about the future all the time, but very rare for the future to consciously look at science fiction and say 'LET'S DO THAT!' ... but with Star Trek, that's exactly what happened. Turning what was simply a useless prop into something real. Turning imagination and fantasy into a functioning reality." He was no longer leaning, by the way. Sort of too excited to since he was rocking back and forth on his heels while also bouncing. Ridiculous looking really. "Now, I don't expect you to know about muggle technology from a hundred years ago," he continued. Nor did he really expect the boy to know about muggle technology now either. Not everyone was so lucky to get to experience the wonder that was a muggle lifestyle after all. "But the very idea of a personal communication device, muggles refer to them as cell phones, came from Star Trek. Yes, there were precursors in development across the globe, but the flip-phone was inspired by the very device first seen on the show." Dr. Martin Cooper had even said so himself. Pretty big deal, you know? "Star Trek also invented the idea of a computer that was user-friendly and thus the first ever personal computer, the Altair 880, was named after a solar system from the Star Trek universe."

AND THIS WAS ONLY THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG!

This seat was sort of bouncy! Did Flamsteed know? Man, Kyroh would NEVER let go of such a bouncy seat if it was HIS choice. Kyroh even bounced a couple of times. SO COMFORTABLE! The first year did a quick spin before stopping after a single 360 just because the Professor was talking again. "REALLY?" He could go faster? It had a pretty good spin to FASTER YEAH!? The first year tugged off his shoes and threw them to the ground. DON'T WORRY SHOES HE'D COME BACK FOR YOU.

Kyroh just needed to go FASTER okay? Tucking his knees in quite easily (at least probably easier than a grown adult would-ahem- the first year wiggled his butt a bit, grabbed onto the desk and was OFFFF!!! "OPTIMAL SPINNNINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG POWERRRRR YEAAAHHH!" The world around him became a blur and there was no more office, no more tie collection no more Flamsteed, just COLOURS and they went by FAST TOO!!

Finally the chair began to slow down and the spaceman came back into focus. "....It's alright sir." Like he'd been in faster but NO BIG DEAL, YEAH? Also-"You can take a seat Professor." Like in that non spinning chair over there! Did he not want to sit?

He was ABOUT to spin again but then Flamsteed started speaking and it would be rude to continue speaking so instead Kyroh just enjoyed the seat and comfortably wiggled his butt a few times. "So i'll only get a dentition if I ask a illegitimate question? Alright!" He could handle that! No illegitimate questions....even though he didn't know what illegitimate questions were.

Er-the Star Trek talk was sort of hurting his brain. Kyroh knew what cell phones were he'd seen them before. Portable telephones. Computers too! He knew them. He'd even used a computer before but the idea that the show just invented something out of the blue that in turn became a real creation? "Were the creation of Star Trek Seers then? Because they like knew stuff." They had to be Seers right? They just had to be. "Do you like Star Trek because of that? The Altair 880? The solar system stuff?"

Perhaps she was being rather selfish, but there was a part of her that was glad his dreams got crushed and life granted him a place at Hogwarts. So it was okay to be slightly selfish when it was probably thanks to the turn of those events that Lotus Wisteria was now going to pursue a career in Astronomy. The sixth year smiled and then took her tea back to drink more of it. Yes, those words she knew very well. Even the reboot ended with them. "Maybe it was taken too literal back then." Like, actually go, physically. The words could oh-so-easily, and creatively, be taken far less literally and go to these places with our imagination, yes? Yes. But as a kid, you don't consider this. "At least it was incredibly inspirational." Also, Airey, it's very accurate to say your mind has boldly gone where no man has gone before, soooo... no harm done. Whatever that means.

She understood, though.

There was something wrong with California. The fact that it was too far away wouldn't really affect her decision, if it didn't take her far away from someone who'd have issues about this. But the future was so uncertain. If there was a way of knowing... then she still wouldn't want to know. Before jumping to conclusions and missing opportunities, she decided to give it a chance, yes? Happy coincidence? Not exactly sure about the happy part, but it was a coincidence, nonetheless. So she smiled, brightly, as the man kept talking about other schools. Universities. Got it. Oxford and Sussex would be good, too. Apparently not the best? "I could visit Stanford this summer, see if I like the environment and all." That was important, too, you know? She'd loved New York, but what if she didn't particularly like Stanford? Also, "So, Stanford would be the best, then." Because that's what he meant, yeah?

OMG ALICE.

NO.

UNBELIEVABLE.

SHE WAS GONE, and yet here was Airey casually mentioning Miss Fischer. Hmmmmmm. Thanks for the advice but it's highly unlikely she'll ask Miss Fischer anything now.

Lotus thought things through as she sipped her tea, and eventually nodded at the man. Stanford was sounding more and more appealing because she was certain that was one name she wouldn't have to hear over there. She still likes Queen Alice, though, but was still bitter about not being first. The girl had Quidditch, what more did she want? At least we know Miss Wisteria will be making all the discoveries, of course. "I'd try to, yes," she said, with a smile and a nod, "Can't say I knew she's studying astronomy... what with being a Quidditch player and all...," THIS IS WHY SHE WAS HIS FAVORITE, WASN'T IT? Because she could also get him tickets and souvenirs and whatnot. Whatever, whatever.

Speaking of...

..."I went to New York last summer and made something for you, Professor." Yes, she was still gonna give the drawing to him, even if Fischer was the favorite one.

"Ah, here it is. Build the Enterprise by BTE Dan," he read as he rolled back towards his desk and passed the black minimalist looking book to the Slytherin. "You're welcome to borrow that if you wish."

Simon nodded with a wide grin as he listened to Professor Flamsteed explain that back in 2011 that an engineer had outlined this super cool plan for a ship just like the Enterprise. He blinked. How could have that man come up those ideas to generate a ship like the Enterprise when they didn't have the exact technology or resources to build it back in 2011? Simon chuckled when he heard Professor Flamsteed informed him that NASA had probably only taken the plans to humour the fan. However, if NASA already had the plans, there was a possibility that they could have been starting to work on building various parts of a ship like the USS Enterprise.

When Simon took hold of the minimalist book, a sudden feeling of mirth passed through him. He was excited- so excited that he began turning the pages rather carefully so that they wouldn't crease. This book was worth more than the price of gold to him. An even bigger smile played on his lips. "I'd love to borrow it. Thanks Professor Flamsteed- this is awesome. I'll take good care of it," he promised. He'd also make sure to keep it somewhere special. "When do you want me to bring it back by? Next week?"

"Fascinating and factual," he grinned. Just the way he liked it. When it came to magazines anyway. Of course the man enjoyed his fiction, but the sort he read weren't masquerading as the truth.

She thought he was joking. How....quaint? He honestly didn't feel like correcting her on the matter as to just how offensive the mistake was to his livelihood. Arguing with a Divination professor on the validity of astrology was only going to result in migraines. Science versus pseudoscience. He had been there once with Calista after he had also argued with her about her hugger mugger at best seating area.

Why did she keep glancing at her purse? No, actually...he really didn't want to know. Really.

Hmmm...interesting. Miss Cambridge had always been outspoken - and pat on the back to himself for identifying the student correctly before it was finally revealed to him - but he was having a hard time visualizing her standing up and declaring something 'rubbish' in the middle of a classroom. Simply wasn't a term he had heard the prefect used often, if at all. Not only that, but acting as a tattletale of sorts, which was the precise image he was getting from Cassiopeia's words. So he really had no idea what to say to all this. "I'll have a word with her."

He glanced down anxiously at his sundial watch and then returned to drumming on his thighs.

Airey was torn between taking a step forward and taking a step back as the Ravenclaw turned into a spinning blur. Just...don't fall of the chair, okay? Please?

"Oh no, I'm fine where I am," he nodded. He only sat in HIS chair and it was currently being occupied against his better judgement. But his slight frown was turned upside down by Mr. Scabior's inquiry. "The probability will certainly increase depending on the subject matter, but I would hope that I am a rather tolerant man that encouraged curiosity." Within reason at least.

Seer. Twitch. No...certainly not that, but to a first year like the boy in front of him who - at least from his observations - did not seem to know too much about the muggle world it WAS the logical conclusion to come to. Even if he had not too positive of opinions on Seers. "Visionaries, would be my preferred term. Scientific and technological visionaries who tapped into their creativity and applied it to the technology of the time and saw ways to improve it." Not Seers, okay?

He placed both hands on his desk again, after giving Pebbles a few taps on top of her rocky head, and leaned against it. "My interest in solar system stuff," he said, using air quotes around the boy's term. "Came from watching Star Trek, but it is certainly not the sole reason why I enjoy it, but my adoration for the franchise comes from something else entirely." Was he seriously about to share some of his feelings with a first year? An endearing and inquisitive first year, but still a student that he was not too familiar with yet. Sharing this side of him was...quite personally really. "It gave me something to aspire to. To boldly go where no one has go before."

SPOILER!!: our Number One ^^

Literal? Airey chuckled for a brief moment. That was the job of a child, wasn't it? To take things literally like that. "That is entirely possible, although at 4-years-old I went running around declaring I was going to be the next Captain of the Enterprise." Which really made no sense because there was a clear canon timeline for who was to become the captains and not once had there been an Airey Flamsteed mentioned there or anywhere within any crew on any ship. Alas. Childhood dream crushed. "Once I was old enough to accept that that dream was just a tad beyond my reach, I turned to the next best thing - an astronaut."

And how many people could say that becoming an astronaut was their back up plan? Hmm?

He nodded. "Definitely a good idea," he agreed. Standing in the very location would help confirm that it was the place for her. Miss Wisteria was driven and knew what she wanted, so he had no doubts that she wouldn't be successful wherever she ended up...but he had opinions on where he thought would be best. "I believe so, yes." See? Strong opinion.

He took another long sip from his tea before speaking again. "Not sure how she manages it myself," he said with a small shrug. He was fairly positive he wouldn't have been able to do it himself, extra distraction and all. He was good at keeping himself distracted with no outside help. "But as long as my students, current and former, continue to grow and are passionate about what they do, I can't complain." And there was an added grin there, just for you Miss Wisteria.

NEW YORK?! Did that mean she went to Broadway?! Surely she must have. It was THE thing to do in New York, you know? "Really? Something for me from New York?" A something she had maaaaaaaaaaaaaaade? Would it be terribly unprofessional if he went all grabby hands towards...whatever it was?

Next week?"
The astronomer leaned back in his chair, his mind still wandering back to the boy's father and his Bones cosplay. But he couldn't think of a way to ask about the man without coming across as a total creeperdoodle. Scientific term, creeperdoodle.

"By the end of the term is perfectly fine," he chuckled. "I am not reading or using it at the moment, so no need to feel rushed with it." Because he really should take his time and enjoy it rather than speed through it. Although that was precisely what he had done...and then gone back and reread it once or twice while sitting by the fireplace with a nice warm cup of tea.

Oh right! His tea. Simon picked up his cup of tea and took another sip, finishing his tea. Ahh. "Awesome, thanks Professor," he said with a wide grin. Yes, he was going to spending a whole day relaxing with a cup of tea or hot chocolate near the fireplace with several blankets on. That would be a very, very good day for the boy. He'd try his hardest not to read through it as quickly as he could.

His mind too wandered back to the Star Trek conference. "I'll try to work on my dad so that he can take me to the conference next year," he exclaimed. He didn't know how to ask his next question without sounding a little weird. "Uhh.. I don't know how to say this without sounding a little strange but err... Do you generally go as Spock?"

Insert awkwardness now?

Please no.

She couldn’t help but eye the man as he said fascinating a factual. Was he implying something? “Well we all enjoy reading factual things and can find them in many different places.” She wouldn’t his likes and she was thinking about looking at an issue to read one day. She loved to read during her morning tea.

He would speak with her, oh good, see it was just a misunderstanding. “I’m so glad I came in.” she said as she stood. “I knew it just had to be a misunderstanding, you are a very bright man, so I just knew those unprofessional words couldn’t have come from your mouth in front of a student. Just because we don’t teach the same things doesn’t mean we don’t respect each other’s differences.” She was just beaming and snapped a bit.

“I won’t keep you any longer Airey. It was a wonderful visit though. Maybe you could stop by for some tea sometime. I can show myself out.” Turning her purse flipped off her shoulder and Aries one of the kitties popped its little head out and meowed. “Sorry “ She patted him on the head and double checked to make sure Gemini hadn’t fallen out. Luckily the Kitty purse was designed to protect them and be a comfortable ride. Grinning back towards him one last time she opened the door and headed back to her own tower.
