Hogwarts' kitchen is an enormous, high-ceilinged stone room, as large as the Great Hall. There are mounds of bright, shiny brass pots and pans heaped around the stone walls and a great brick fireplace at the other end, which the House Elves use to cook and sit upon when in need of a break. Looking to cook your own meal? No need! The house elves will be REALLY happy to serve you, now that they're back at Hogwarts.
If you're by the fireplace, then you're at the other end. Careful how you get here, though; the House Elves are a bit touchy about students invading and acting like they own their private workspace....

Kindred clumsy spirit? But-but he just said that she wasn't clumsy. Gah. Girls. "Soooo...." Was there an instruction manual on how to not be awkward? Because this had gone on for far too long. WAIT AHA! The knitting needle she pulled out!... Who carries around a knitting needle? O__O ? "Do you... Knit?" Because was knitting like an old person thing? Did Botros knit? He probably did. Mhm. That guy was old. So old he probably knew the first king of England.

Plate with cucumber sandwiches in hand, Lux made her way over to sit at the fireplace. Usually she ate at the counter when she was in the kitchens, but with it being so cold in the castle these days the extra heat provided by the fireplace was more than welcome.
Moving her chair so that it was a little closer to the flames (without being too close), the Hufflepuff began to dig in to her food. She had just been to visit Bay, which was always wonderful. And after she ate it was time to do some homework. Ugh, work. The cold was making her feel more lazy so her work ethic was starting to suffer. But at least her mood was a lot better than it had been. Things would be perfect again when Bay was out of the Hospital Ward.
Fireplaces were Amelia's best friend right now. Other than well, people, all things that had heat...and the slightly fleeting idea that one day she'd be able to get outside and breathe fresh air...fresh not freezing cold air that is.
Don't spill she thought as she lifted her eyes from the teapot full of steaming water. It was nice, and warm, and there was someone sitting in the chair by the fire.
That was a smart girl. Smart girls deserved cookies...piping hot fresh out of the oven cookies...which she had in a little metal lunchbox sitting in her bag. "Hey, you want some tea?" She offered with a smile over to the girl as she made her way to another one of the chairs.
Food and fires would always go well together. Especially outside in the summertime with fireworks and other magical memories to accompany them.

"Nice to meet you Lux, I'm Mika...or well Amelia but everyone calls me really anything they want to for nicknames" she grinned and continued to take little drags from her cup. It was warm, and well that was something compared to her.

He didn't get a chance to ask though because the Noel boy stood up and was pointing his finger at him. Yes he was a Ravenclaw.
Him? Hi- suddenly flecks of spit and SNOT splattered all over his face. His brown eyes opened wide and Kyroh dropped the sweater, reaching up to touch his face. His hand touched his cheek and the gross phlegm that covered it.
The first year blinked and quickly dropped his hand, his lips quivering. "...I'm going to die now." He was. He REALLY was. The sick dying HUFFLEPUFF had SNEEZED on him and now the germs were ON him and he was going to DIE. Kyroh wasn't even ALLOWED to die. He WASN'T! The first year's lip quivered some more and his eyes filled with water. But he COULDN'T cry. No. No. He couldn't. Maddie had said he had been acting like a baby. So he couldn't cry.....even though he was dying...his lip wobbled some more and Kyroh bit down on it HARD. "I'm going to die....and i'm not even going to get to hug my parents goodbye."

Hayley, do you have a fresh handkerchief we could borrow?" he asked, before turning back to the boy."I am pretty sure, you will just have the flu" he told him, in a nasaly voice. "It's okay though. We will get through this together. I mean, Ii would do most probably die. But you will survive. Cause you are a Ravenclaw, and Ravenclaw people live to tell the world that Hufflepuffs die." He nodded. Yes, and now they could sit together and wail and grieve about Noel dying, and Kyroh most probably catching the flu.
At least Kyroh understood not all Hufflepuffs died, now if only she could make him understand that hardly any Hufflepuffs die, and it was all just a big rumor, they would be on the right track. However, Noel certainly wasn't helping matters.
Blue-grey eyes settled on her cousin, Hayley frowned even more. He was being a prat, for the record. While she knew that sneezes typically came out of nowhere, and she would play along with his 'I have no control over it', even though he could just have covered his nose and mouth, none of that was what Hayley was referring to. It was laughing about it, that she wasn't all too pleased over. Manners, Noel had them. Somewhere. The second year didn't have a chance to verbalize any of her thoughts though, as her attention quickly shifted toward the now upset first year.
He was going to die..... Merlin.
Shooting Noel a look, Hayley's gaze returned quickly to the Ravencaw boy, as he expressed his concerns with dying. From a non-existent Hufflepuff plague. "You're not dying, I promise Kyroh. You'll get to hug your parents again, and not as a goodbye." The girl assured, trying to soothe the boy as Noel pulled him into a hug before sitting him down.
To join them on the ground, or not to join them on the ground. Serious decisions were to be made, but then Noel was talking to her again. "Let me see," was all she said, before walking the short distance to her school bag. After a bit of rummaging around through it, the small brunette pulled out a handkerchief and handed it over.
"Maybe it's time we all go to the hospital wing, so you doesn't have to die, and maybe Kyroh can get something to avoid catching your flu."

Mika couldn’t help but smile when Lux told her about how her nickname had developed. ”That is adorable, really,” she couldn’t help but blush when the prefect was brought up. ”Yeah, he is the Hufflepuff Prefect, and definitely! Though I think yours is more fun, Cucumber is an adorable nickname” she grinned and took another sip of her tea.
Dragon-Boy. That was a nice one. ”That’s an awesome one I’m sure that he loves it!” she laughed and shrugged her shoulder somewhat in response to the question about her little sister. ”Honestly it’s a few things…her backpack which is actually partially a harness-thing is monkey shaped and she’s always loved them…we were at the Zoo a few years back and she just started trying to talk to the Monkeys in their language…it didn’t work at all but she had so much fun” she grinned over to her.
And then her heart hurt for her. Truly, those neighborhood kids were jerks. ”Well if they think you are a freak they aren’t worth the change in your pocket” she glanced over to her. ”Hey if you ever want to make them stop thinking you’re a freak I could scare the living daylights out of them by walking down the street with multi-colored hair…or you know a deformed face? Maybe even make myself look like a zombie…which regretfully are real found that out for certain on the Peru trip this past summer” she shrugged her shoulder. And gave Lux a quick smile.
”You know if you ever need to you can always Owl me about those jerks and I’ll give them a good scare…make them think the zombie apocalypse is happening.”

Sipping her tea she thought about how much fun it would be to dress up as one. Even if she was scared of them, it would amuse her. "I know about that trip! My boyfriend went on it!" Aww Lux was all smiley. It was nice to see someone who seemed just genuinely happy, and nice, she really seemed nice. That was a nice breath of fresh air. Air…she wanted fresh air.
”Oh he can be a bit of a Neanderthal at times, but…for good reason he’s protective and a good person to befriend, if he wasn’t graduating this year I’d say he’d be the perfect person to ask for help next term” she smiled and then frowned partly. It was hard thinking that she was leaving the school, but also not hard. As she could be outside in the summer sun, if there ever was any sun that is.
”Aw, really? I’ve…well got a stuffed rabbit that I hardly ever take out of the dorm room she’s a bit raggedy” she grinned. Stuffed animals were after all a past pleasure of hers…until most of them were annihilated by her sister’s collection of pets…and swords.
”Oh honey,” she exclaimed as she heard Lux comment about how it was hard not to cry about those stupid boys. Stupid boys could be stupid. ”Well, if you ever need help just let me know I’ve got a handy little…condition as it were?”’ she grinned before leaning closer and lowering her voice though no one was in the room. ”My hair used to change color depending on my moods because of it…I don’t usually tell people but I kind of got my mum’s metamorphamagus ability, skipped both of my sisters and my brothers but I got it! Its kind of why I wanted to be an auror.” Wanted? Did she say wanted? She still wanted right? It was still a want? Not a past tense wanted?
”Really? Whose your boyfriend? Maybe I met him?” she asked with a bright-eyed smile. Most of the people on that trip were really nice. And helpful when the troll-thing-happened. And when Lux commented about visiting her she couldn’t help but grin. ”but of course! What else are mentoury-friend-persons-for?” now that was awkward…but it was out there. Since, well…she was awkward.

”Aw, really? I’ve…well got a stuffed rabbit that I hardly ever take out of the dorm room she’s a bit raggedy” she grinned. Stuffed animals were after all a past pleasure of hers…until most of them were annihilated by her sister’s collection of pets…and swords.
”Oh honey,” she exclaimed as she heard Lux comment about how it was hard not to cry about those stupid boys. Stupid boys could be stupid. ”Well, if you ever need help just let me know I’ve got a handy little…condition as it were?”’ she grinned before leaning closer and lowering her voice though no one was in the room. ”My hair used to change color depending on my moods because of it…I don’t usually tell people but I kind of got my mum’s metamorphamagus ability, skipped both of my sisters and my brothers but I got it! Its kind of why I wanted to be an auror.” Wanted? Did she say wanted? She still wanted right? It was still a want? Not a past tense wanted?
”Really? Whose your boyfriend? Maybe I met him?” she asked with a bright-eyed smile. Most of the people on that trip were really nice. And helpful when the troll-thing-happened. And when Lux commented about visiting her she couldn’t help but grin. ”but of course! What else are mentoury-friend-persons-for?” now that was awkward…but it was out there. Since, well…she was awkward.
Giggle. Neanderthal was a funny word. "He sounds like a great guy. My boyfriend can be really protective of me." It was so sweet; she loved it. She would never swim in the lake because last term she had promised him she wouldn't. He had been worried that something down there would hurt her. Awww, it was not nice to see Mika frown. "What's wrong?"
Nod. Stuffed animals were awesome, and she loved her collection. "I named him Mr. Bananas." SNORT. She clearly had been a very creative toddler. But she loved Mr. Bananas and had him since she was a baby. He was at Hogwarts with her, though she didn't take him out all that much. "What is your stuffed rabbit's name?" It must be a pretty awesome one, or well more awesome than her monkey's.
MIKA WAS SO SWEET! "I would love for you to help me. I think I will do that." Giving a grateful smile she leaned in, eyes widening at that huge revelation. "Wow, that is so cool. What is it like changing? Like... does it feel weird?" This was the first time Lux had met a metamorphamagus to her knowledge, so it made her very curious! "An Auror is an awesome career choice. I wanted to be a Quidditch player for a long time, but I'm so scared of heights I think I will go into potion brewing instead." She loved making potions, it was calming besides when gross things were being used.
"His name is Victor Bay but everyone calls him Bay. He was the student hurt with Mr. Kitridge." Pout. She wanted her Bay better, and Mr. Kitridge too of course. "That is so true! Do you like colouring books? Because I have a Little Mermaid one."

Lux’s little giggle sent giant smile creeping across Mika’s face. ”You are really sweet, and thanks, I’m glad you’ve got a nice boyfriend,” she smiled and then felt her hearth thaw a tiny bit, despite the still nagging cold around them. This girl was precious. She had noticed her slight remorse about leaving the school and asked about it. ”Oh you are sweet, I’m just…well, I’m going to miss this place…even though I really just want to be able to go outside” she admitted with a nod.
”Wonderful name,” she grinned at her, and then chuckled at the immediate question that followed. ”Flopsy, like the bunnies from Beatrix Potter’s works,” she nodded when Lux commented about loving her help. Wonderful, it was great to have someone want your help.
Was it strange…the urge to give Lux here a giant hug for just being incredibly kind? Because she deserved one, clearly. When Lux’s eyes widened she couldn’t help but chuckle, and then the question. The sweet, and very innocent question. ”Sometimes I don’t really feel anything at all…and then Kaiden will tell me I’m blushing and pick at a piece of my hair because it goes pink when I blush” she admitted with a chuckle.
”You know….your right, I just have to figure out which university to go to…” her teacup was empty. Travesty…still, she didn’t mind, she was warmer now than she had been in a while thanks to the fire. ”You know Potion brewing is a lot of fun, I always liked making fireworks when I had the time to do so” she grinned over to her. And then the next question, the sudden, and utterly adorable one that made her think of her sister…well, a not-insane-version of her sister that is. Still, the question brought a smile to her face.
”So, wand-coloring…or pencils and markers?” she asked an almost childish grin plastered on her face. This girl was someone she’d have to catch up with when summer came around…if summer came around.
