Hogwarts' kitchen is an enormous, high-ceilinged stone room, as large as the Great Hall. There are mounds of bright, shiny brass pots and pans heaped around the stone walls and a great brick fireplace at the other end, which the House Elves use to cook and sit upon when in need of a break. Looking to cook your own meal? No need! The house elves will be REALLY happy to serve you, now that they're back at Hogwarts.
If you're by the fireplace, then you're at the other end. Careful how you get here, though; the House Elves are a bit touchy about students invading and acting like they own their private workspace....
OOC: Please do not RP for the House Elves! We have a lovely group of actual elves who would love to RP with you if you will please be patient.
Merlin, it was cold. If her hands hadn't been full, the second year would have been hugging herself for warmth. Her hands were full though, with two steaming bowls of something a house elf had so kindly given her.
Walking carefully toward the deserted fireplace, Hayley slowly took a seat on the ground and set the bowls aside for a moment while she pulled a rather small blanket out from her school bag, and proceeded to lay it out before getting settled again with one bowl in each hand.
There, all set. Now to just wait for her poor, poor cousin to show up. If he didn't arrive soon, she might end up eating her soup without him. Her throat hurt, and although it wouldn't help, she couldn't even rub it without putting down the only things keeping her hands warm.
"ACCCHOOOOO."
It felt like his heart of being forced out of his body. Noel had never hated life as much before. Stupid, freaking cold.
As soon as he saw his cousin, he witched about it all: "I am dying, okay? My heart is being forced out, its dark magic I tell you. Its dark magic."
Plopping down beside her, he just laid down to rest his throbbing head on her lap. "MY life sucks. This winter sucks. I want my mommy"
People said things when they were all flu-y. Noel said things, but oly Hayley was allowed to hear them.

A real hot mess. Not that dramatic phrase used by dramatic teenage girls, none in particular that she personally knew either. But really, the Ravenclaw didn't mind one bit - Noel, that is. This is what she was here for. Head cushioning, and all.
Deciding it was best after all to set the soups down in front of them, where they would - in theory, - stay warm from the heat of the fire, Hayley turned her full attention to the boy laid out on her, apparently dying. "I think you mean your lungs," She commented softly, only showing a hint of amusement. It had taken a lot not to say how he didn't look dead, okay? Noel wouldn't find the humor in it right now. Later, maybe. Now, not a chance. "Your heart stops when you sneeze." And she had never heard of it being forced out due to a nasty cold, so Hayley was siding with logic on this one.
It only dawned on her after the words had slipped, that telling her darling cousin how his heart would stop from sneezing, wasn't quite what he would want to hear. In any matter, she could still agree that this winter sucked - it hadn't been so bad at first, but now.. they were suppose to be in Spring, weren't they? It made things difficult. Being cooped up in the castle. Tulip and Meeko not being allowed out for fresh air. Freezing all the time, or so it felt like to her.
"Well, I'm not your mum," Hayley answered, a smile tugging at her lips as she used the hand not already resting over his arms to play with his hair gently. "But I'm probably the closest thing you're gonna get to her until we get out of this freezer. Cousin Hayley, at your service."

Kyroh was cold. It was cold in the castle. It was cold EVERY where in the castle. And frankly the first year was TIRED OF BEING COLD! The only place where it wasn't cold was his dorm room. And although Kyroh loved it there staying in the same place too long wasn't fun at ALL. So today's mission with warming up?
Hogwarts stairs marathon.
He had already went from the seventh floor to the ground TWO times, but now he was starting to feeling thirsty and with all the layers he had on (two shirts, and three sweaters) he was also starting to feel sweating. Panting heavily Kyroh made his way into the kitchens, got himself a glass of water and was about to leave again when he noticed a familiar face. "H-he-h-e-hey Hayley!...And.... boy.... I don't...know." The first year was still breathless, and his face slightly red as he walked over to the girl and other boy.

Would it be totally wrong to rub his nose in her robes? He really wanted to. She was all warm and he was too tired to reach for his handkerchief. Noel groaaaned.
"You and your logic," he psssht with his nasal-y voice. Ravenclaws were a little mean, you know, with their extra brain. All the ravenclaws he encountered just wanted to tell him he was wrong.
"you don't know what I am feeling, okay? My heart is squeezing and if it won't force itself out, it will explode inside" Either way, he was dying! Someone needed to bring Sunny to him. He was dyiiiiiiiiing.
His eyes were squeezed shut but he did hear someone approach. "I think you mean - boy who is about to die" he added, and turned his head - rubbing his nose on Hayley's robes in the process.
"I love you, Hayley. Know this, okay? If I die, tell Sunny she is my favorite" Mum would know, and she would tell dad so it was okay.

Maybe Hayley didn't know what he was feeling personally, or even at the moment, but surely she had before, and she could sympathize with him nonetheless. Still, the second year was wise enough not to egg him on with her logic or facts. It wasn't nice, in the end. And she wasn't trying to do anything but be nice, so.. there. "That sounds.. gross," That wasn't being mean, okay? It wasn't. She was just being honest! "Maybe we should take you to the hospital wing." Or maybe he should just eat the soup she had gotten for him, maybe that would make him feel like his heart wasn't squeezing anymore. And de-frost his head a bit.
Before she could suggest anything having to do with the soup, Hayley heard her name, followed by something about a boy - Noel, of course - and while leaning back on one hand, her head turning to look at whoever had just greeted her, Noel managed to get out .. whatever Kyroh wanted to call that. It wasn't quite a hello, or a 'hey what's up,' but hopefully he wouldn't take it too personally. Hayley smiled, "Hey Kyroh!" He looked.. a bit out of breath, and hot? Judging by his reddened face. "This is Noel, he's a Hufflepuff. Second year. And not actually dying yet, don't mind him. Are you okay?"
Even though Hayley's attention was focused on Kyroh at the moment, she had felt the nose rubbing into her robes, and couldn't help but make a face - casting a sideways look at the rather awkward, but no less delightful teenage boy with his head in her lap and possible snot on her robes. She said nothing, though, and turned blue-grey eyes back to her fellow Ravenclaw. Until Noel spoke up again.
Try as she might, Hayley was having a hard time not giggling. Biting the inside of her cheeks, the small brunette's smile only grew. It was even harder not to roll her eyes, playfully of course. "I do know, Noely. I'll make sure Sunny knows, and that it goes on your grave - 'Brother to Sunny, she was my favorite.'"

He took a large swig of the water and was still smiling until the boy spoke....
The boy who was about to DIE? Kyroh's brown eyes grew out of pure worry. The boy was DYING! He was! His eyes flickered to soup in the boys hands and then back to his face. He was so sick that he was going to die? Oh man. Kyroh started, in slight horror his face turning to Hayley. "...Not dying yet?" There was a yet, in that sentence. Which completely meant that the boy was going to die. Not TODAY or tomorrow maybe but SOON.
Kyroh didn't like it ONE BIT. But on the plus side he hadn't made a pact with the boy NOT to die so he really couldn't get annoyed at him about it.
Placing the glass of water on the ground, Kyroh swiftly pulled off his top sweater and held it out the Noel boy. "....I think it's because your a Hufflepuff. They always die." He stated matter-of-factly. It wasn't the cold at all clearly. "But you can have my sweater and wear it to your funeral." He figured it was the best, nice to meetya sorry you're dying present ever.

Noel didn't bother chiming into the introductions, just waved his hand in greeting, not resisting and using Hayley's robes as a handkerchief. She did say she was at his service.
He was sniffling and breathing through his mouth, just minding his own business until the new arrival spoke. About Hufflepuffs dying. Oh my God. He turned his head, and stared at him with disbelief. "You Ravenclaws," he got up, pointing his finger and shaking. "You - You ..... ACHOOOOOOOOOOOOO."
Snot on you little ravenclaw boy. ALL THE SNOT ON YOU.
"HAH!" he laughed, wiping his nose with his arm.

Hayden considered that, about the floo. It did make sense that the Headmistress would have some, she could use it to get to important places where a headmistress would be needed. And if there was some way to leave the castle, maybe it would be smart for them to make use of it. But, maybe not. "She probably doesn't have enough for everyone," Hayden pointed out. There were a lot of students and staff, and she couldn't imagine how much floo it would take for there to be enough for all of them.
Investigation? Hayden thought about that for a moment. "Well I've never really investigated anything before, but I think I could be pretty good at it." Her specialty was analyzing all the data presented before her and coming to a logical conclusion, so she thought she could probably make a pretty good investigator. "Why do you ask?" Did Maddie have something in mind that she wanted to investigate?

He had stumbled upon... wait for it.... A FIREPLACE!? Whaaaaaa!? WHERE WERE THEY HIDING THIS MAGNIFICENT CREATURE FOR ALL THIS TIME!? It was beautiful. It was stupendous. It was brilliant.
It was warm. Ah. Warmth. Without a second thought about food, the lion ran up right smack dab in front of that glorious fire place and sat. Ahhhhh. He could just feel the magnificent heat glowing through his layers upon layers of clothes. He carefully lifted up his hands and held them right up close to the fire. Right up close. Almost too up close. But yet somehow, still not close enough.
He could do this all day.

Marigold was wearing LITERALLY seven layers of clothing. She had long underwear, sweaters, pants, sweats, puffy jackets, scarves, hats, and even fuzzy socks to match her gloves. She cast a rather weak vents, too, but she still moves throughout the halls of Hogwarts like she was frozen. It was all the mindset, y'know.
FIRE. Just the thing to melt her mindset. Er, hopefully not all the way, though. it would be quite hard to take exams without her brain. She scooched up close to the fire, then lifted her hands to warm them too. (She didn't need to raise them that high, though, because with all her layers she couldn't put her arms all the way down anyway). She brought her foot around to sit on it before putting too much weight on one side and toppling over. WHOOOOOPS.
Oh. And she had just fallen over on a person. Heh. Hi… person?

And because she couldn't push herself off, she resolved to rolling off the person and landed softly on the ground because of her many layers.
"Sorry," she said again, now that she could see the person she had crushed. "I fell over."
Fine then, no hospital wing.. for now, atleast. Hayley would make no promises about later, although it would be rather difficult taking him against his will. The young Ravenclaw had her ways, though. She did. If necessary. And that tone of his earned him an eyebrow raise, but the Diggory girl remained patient. "Yes, Mister Moody, I did." Hayley was going to pick up his bowl to hand to him, but Kyroh side-tracked her. She had only been joking about Noel's premature death.. he knew that, didn't he?
... Maybe not.
Mouth falling open, the small brunette watched as her fellow 'Claw stripped off one layer of sweaters and tried to offer it to Noel as a parting gift. Merlin. His heart was certainly in the right place, but somehow Hayley knew Noel wouldn't take it as it was intended. "Not all Hufflepuffs," She corrected, her voice gentle. "Both of my parents were Hufflepuffs, and so were two of my best friends parents. All of them in Hufflepuff. My Aunt, too. All perfectly fine." And really, the girl didn't appreciate all the dumb rumors involving Hufflepuffs and death, but she couldn't blame Kyroh for suggesting it - he had to have heard it from someone else to begin with. Right?
You Ravenclaws? Eyeing her cousin, slightly older than her and definitely taller, Hayley frowned. But then the boy was standing up, and being.. well, not very nice. "HEY!" Rising to her own feet, Hayley moved closer to the pair. "Noel Wallace, you're acting like a mum with all that finger pointing." So he should stop. It was rude, too! Sick or not, Hayley wouldn't deal with peers being mean to one another, even if it was a misunderstanding - which it was, boys! "And now you're spreading your germs!"

He didn't get a chance to ask though because the Noel boy stood up and was pointing his finger at him. Yes he was a Ravenclaw.
Him? Hi- suddenly flecks of spit and SNOT splattered all over his face. His brown eyes opened wide and Kyroh dropped the sweater, reaching up to touch his face. His hand touched his cheek and the gross phlegm that covered it.
The first year blinked and quickly dropped his hand, his lips quivering. "...I'm going to die now." He was. He REALLY was. The sick dying HUFFLEPUFF had SNEEZED on him and now the germs were ON him and he was going to DIE. Kyroh wasn't even ALLOWED to die. He WASN'T! The first year's lip quivered some more and his eyes filled with water. But he COULDN'T cry. No. No. He couldn't. Maddie had said he had been acting like a baby. Fine then, no hospital wing.. for now, atleast. Hayley would make no promises about later, although it would be rather difficult taking him against his will. The young Ravenclaw had her ways, though. She did. If necessary. And that tone of his earned him an eyebrow raise, but the Diggory girl remained patient. "Yes, Mister Moody, I did." Hayley was going to pick up his bowl to hand to him, but Kyroh side-tracked her. She had only been joking about Noel's premature death.. he knew that, didn't he?
... Maybe not.
Mouth falling open, the small brunette watched as her fellow 'Claw stripped off one layer of sweaters and tried to offer it to Noel as a parting gift. Merlin. His heart was certainly in the right place, but somehow Hayley knew Noel wouldn't take it as it was intended. "Not all Hufflepuffs," She corrected, her voice gentle. "Both of my parents were Hufflepuffs, and so were two of my best friends parents. All of them in Hufflepuff. My Aunt, too. All perfectly fine." And really, the girl didn't appreciate all the dumb rumors involving Hufflepuffs and death, but she couldn't blame Kyroh for suggesting it - he had to have heard it from someone else to begin with. Right?
You Ravenclaws? Eyeing her cousin, slightly older than her and definitely taller, Hayley frowned. But then the boy was standing up, and being.. well, not very nice. "HEY!" Rising to her own feet, Hayley moved closer to the pair. "Noel Wallace, you're acting like a mum with all that finger pointing." So he should stop. It was rude, too! Sick or not, Hayley wouldn't deal with peers being mean to one another, even if it was a misunderstanding - which it was, boys! "And now you're spreading your germs!"

He didn't get a chance to ask though because the Noel boy stood up and was pointing his finger at him. Yes he was a Ravenclaw.
Him? Hi- suddenly flecks of spit and SNOT splattered all over his face. His brown eyes opened wide and Kyroh dropped the sweater, reaching up to touch his face. His hand touched his cheek and the gross phlegm that covered it.
The first year blinked and quickly dropped his hand, his lips quivering. "...I'm going to die now." He was. He REALLY was. The sick dying HUFFLEPUFF had SNEEZED on him and now the germs were ON him and he was going to DIE. Kyroh wasn't even ALLOWED to die. He WASN'T! The first year's lip quivered some more and his eyes filled with water. But he COULDN'T cry. No. No. He couldn't. Maddie had said he had been acting like a baby. So he couldn't cry.....even though he was dying...his lip wobbled some more and Kyroh bit down on it HARD. "I'm going to die....and i'm not even going to get to hug my parents goodbye."
"Oh my God, Hayley! I am NOT doing it on purpose!" he whined, trying to reach for the handkerchief of his. "A sneeze happens when it has to happen! I got no control over it"- he stated, wiping his nose clean for the moment - before turning his attention back to Kyroh.
OHMYGAWD. WAS HE CRYING? HIS EYES WERE ALL WATERY!! Maybe he was about to sneeze?
Oh no. He was dying. Like Noel? Oh Gosh.
Oh man, Noel realized, he probably broke the kid.
"But you are not a Hufflepuff" Noel declared, before reaching for the boy and pulling him and just holding him close. "I am the one definitely dying" He sniffled, rubbing Kyroh's head like a child. Pulling Kyroh down, and sitting down - Noel just made the boy rest his head on his shoulder. Suddenly feeling like he was comforting Sunny, Noel turned to his cousin, "Uh. Hayley, do you have a fresh handkerchief we could borrow?" he asked, before turning back to the boy."I am pretty sure, you will just have the flu" he told him, in a nasaly voice. "It's okay though. We will get through this together. I mean, Ii would do most probably die. But you will survive. Cause you are a Ravenclaw, and Ravenclaw people live to tell the world that Hufflepuffs die." He nodded. Yes, and now they could sit together and wail and grieve about Noel dying, and Kyroh most probably catching the flu.

There were several probabilities so Hayden shouldn't assume malicious intent without there being any proof. Especially since Maddie's next idea was a good one. "Deal," she agreed. If she found out anything, Maddie would be the first one she'd go to.

Marigold winced as she realized that she had squished someone. Hard. It's a weird feeling, having squished someone. Well, she held out a hand to shake, because she felt that was appropriate. "Sorry. I'm really clumsy. I'm Marigold, and yeah, I think I remember that."

Yes, poison brownies. Well probably. Maybe. Actually, probably not. It didn't seem very likely and yet it wasn't completely impossible so Hayden wan't going to correct Maddie. Not unless she knew for sure she was wrong, which she didn't. Snooping? That sounded fun. Hayden wanted to snoop too, but she wouldn't know where to even start. Maddie seemed much better at this investigating thing. "Let me know if you find out anything interesting." Remember the deal, Maddie.
The Ravenclaw common room was pretty far away. Hayden had no idea what time it was, but apparently it was time for Maddie to be heading back. Hayden figured she was fine staying by the fireplace: her common room was right next door. "Bye Maddie." She smiled back and waved as the girl left.
Hayden stayed right where she was, because it was warm.

Zander shifted around a little bit, trying to make himself comfortable again, now that he was thrown out of place. At least he wasn't being squished anymore. Was this how CB felt when he accidentally tripped on her that once... Oops. It was probably karma. He pretty much deserved this one. Right. Anyways. He eyed her hand for a second, before realizing he was meant to shake. Oh. That felt so formal, but alrightieeee. The Gryffindor slowly met her hand with his own and gave her a firm, yet not-too-firm shake. Was that good enough? Huh.

Plate with cucumber sandwiches in hand, Lux made her way over to sit at the fireplace. Usually she ate at the counter when she was in the kitchens, but with it being so cold in the castle these days the extra heat provided by the fireplace was more than welcome.
Moving her chair so that it was a little closer to the flames (without being too close), the Hufflepuff began to dig in to her food. She had just been to visit Bay, which was always wonderful. And after she ate it was time to do some homework. Ugh, work. The cold was making her feel more lazy so her work ethic was starting to suffer. But at least her mood was a lot better than it had been. Things would be perfect again when Bay was out of the Hospital Ward.

Marigold frowned as she shifted her weight into a more comfortable sitting position like the boy was and ended up being poked in the leg. She patted her bum pockets, then pulled out a knitting needle. Whoops. Turning her attention back to the boy in front of her, she wound her magically-straightened hair into an oblong shape and stuck the needle into it, trying to hold it in place. She cautiously removed her hands, only to have a chunk of hair fall out around her chin. She tucked it behind her ear impatiently.
Yeah. The handshake was awkward. Was it too late to change it into one of those rad-fistbumps?
"Nice to meet you, Zander," she said, emphasizing the you. She grinned at him. "Well, it's nice to meet a kindred clumsy spirit!
