The entrance to the Gryffindor Common Room is guarded by the very famous and very vocal portrait of one large woman, affectionately known to all as the Fat Lady. To gain entrance to the lions' common room, simply tell her the password and she should swing forward to reveal the round hole through which Gryffindors climb into their tower. What's beyond that hole, though, you might not like...
If you AREN'T a Gryffindor, though, and you try to get in anyway... be warned that Ms. Fat Lady might make a fuss about your sneaking around. She probably wouldn't mind your waiting on a friend outside here, but she will try to get some juicy gossip out of ya.

Benny had run away from Culloden and Adi as fast as he could. However he had slowed with the challenging passage up the stairs. And the occasional burst of words that passed from his lips unbidden because he was too shaken and almost out of breathe as he moved. He was near tears in his frustration, just a little glad when he was finally on the seventh floor and then spotted the Fat Lady's portrait that signaled home and peace.
He approached her frame and spoke the password. "Harrow gutter." Or tried to. The Gryffindor couldn't even do that. Couldn't gain access to the refuge of the Gryffindor common room and further ahead...his dorm upstairs.
Benjamin sighed and started pacing hoping someone might come to say it themselves so he could follow. However it seemed as if he remained out of luck and he leaned dejectedly against a nearby wall, absently sliding down to the floor in a heap of sad and puzzled lion.

Adi had followed Benny all the way from Culloden's Office to the Fat Lady's portrait. One things was occupying his mind: Benny's ability to speak properly was broken. And he was at fault. Cue the guilt. Adi stood nervously behind his friend, watching him try to get the password to his common room out. It came as no surprise that what Benny uttered was incorrect.
The Hufflepuff felt even more guilty when the Lion collapsed on the floor and against the wall. "If the Potion wears off soon and Benny can speak properly again, I promise I won't slip him another potion ever again,'' he thought desperately. Adi walked over to his friend and sat next to him. "Hello, Dragon. Don't worry, I'm pretty sure you'll be back to normal soon.'' He must remain calm and cheerful. Yes, there was no need to make Benny feel any worse.

Ben hadn't expected Adi to follow him out of the professor's office, let alone follow him all the way up to Gryffindor tower. Why would the other boy care as they were just recovering from their fight. And had been too distracted to notice he wasn't alone as he struggled to hide within the only place he could think of. Hearing the voice of his friend the Gryffindor sighed again not he was really wanting to be around anyone at the moment and that included the HUfflepuff.
"Howard tissue beat Shirt..." he murmered uselessly. The third year pulling his knees up to his chest and resting his chin down upon his arms that covered his legs. He didn't know what to think or do just feeling oh so incredibly lost, dazed and confused.

Adi was hoping with all his might that the Potion wore off soon. He still thought that he had made a mistake when brewing and that's why Professor Culloden's remedy had not worked. Outside he looked calm and collected but inside his mind was racing.
He absently placed his hand into his pocket. Oh, sandwiches! Te ones he had snagged from the Gryffindor table. "Sandwich, Benny?'' the Hufflepuff asked. He himself took a bite out of one. It was all a part of the plan to maintain his calm appearance.

Benny sighed and "Jumble candle grain---" burst out without warning. He bit his lip and closed his eyes, willing himself to hold back the tears that threatened to well up. It was embarrassing enough to be afflicted with whatever it was, acting like a child and crying about it would just make it worse. Especially in front of others like Adi or whoever else might pass on the way to the common room.
He tentatively looked up at his friend as the Hufflepuff spoke again. The Gryffindor shrugged at first , before accepting the offered sandwich. He had run out from the Great Hall in the middle of eating lunch.

Adi couldn't help but grin. "Candles aren't made of grains, Benny. They're made of wax.'' But his grin quickly faded when Benny closed his eyes. He wasn't going to cry, right? That thought riddled Adi with double- no, triple the amount of guilt he had already been feeling.
Looking away, the Hufflepuff crammed the remainder of the sandwich into his mouth. At least Benny had accepted the sandwich. "I've got more here,'' he said and produced four more. His mind was still racing. How long would it be before the Potion wore off? Adi seriously hoped it wouldn't be long from now.

He would have given his bestie a sharp look had he been looking up. Of course he knew candles weren't made from grains. He hadn't meant to say what he did, hadn't meant any of it since they were down in the Great Hall and he had been just fine.
"Tank puddle," he said absently, wishing a polite thanks to the other boy for the thought. And inwardly thankful that nothing more had decided to spill out in the process. The Gryffindor then turned his attention to the sandwich, nibbling on it as he tried to relax over the situation.

"I think we can put a few puddles in a tank,'' Adi said jokingly. "But I think you meant thank you so I'm going to reply with you're welcome.'' He hoped his friend was feeling better. Well, as much better as one can get with improper speaking abilities.
A totally random idea suddenly made itself known in Adi's head. "Hey, I wonder if I could summon something from my dorm.'' His dorm was miles away from the Gryffindor Tower but it was worth a try. He would try to summon one of his text books or something. If it worked, he could pass the time by reading. If it didn't at least he would be practicing his spell work. And hopefully it would give Benny something else to focus on.
Wand in hand, he made a curved movement. Sort of like the shape of a mouth you'd see on a sad person. "Accio book!'' Adi had a very clear picture of his copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in his head. It would be so cool if the book actually came hurtling towards him.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
The seventh floor was his last step before going up to the dormitory to catch some sleep. He was tired from climbing up the stairs and sneaking around and using the charm in various places at Hogwarts.
He entered the hallway where the entrance of the common room was and pointed his wand at the wall on the right. "Caelum Saepio!" he said as he drew an infinity shape with his phoenix feather core wand. Then he walked to the next wall and performed the same shape and incantation again. The boy yawned loudly as he walked to another area and did the same "Caelum Saepio!" spell there. Then he put his wand back in his wrist holster and walked towards the portrait of the Fat Lady, said the password and entered.

She might have sent Felix back to her dorm if it weren't for the fact they were meant to be heading down for breakfast. The kneazle enjoyed the sausages just as much as the next guy. No way was she leaving him up here when they happened to be down at the Gryffindor table. Lex crawled through the portrait hole right after Felix and held her arms open for him for him to hop back into them. Sharing heat on the way to breakfast, it was totally a thing.
Only thing now was waiting on the Professor to appear outside so they could have this 'word' he wanted.
While she waited she did try thinking of things she might have done but...nothing was coming. He'd be happy to know he hadn't jinxed anyone since Kevin...not that she could remember anyway. There were so many idiots on a daily basis that it was sometimes hard to keep track of what she did to which one.
"I know you're hungry." She said to Felix as she waited, "But we gotta listen to the Professor first. Be good and you get an extra sausage."

Cosgrach followed Alexa outside as he thought of how to... question her. Ask nicely. Alexa was a wise girl, and for that he had to be triple cautious.
His eyes were on the kneazle for a moment, before he decided to ignore the thing completely, though his wand would be directed at it should it even move. He looked around and made sure NO ONE AT ALL was around to hear them. Good. That stupid aparecium article still made him utterly angry.
"I was wondering where your badge is," he said casually, as if he was asking what she thought of last night's dinner, "I haven't seen in on you for a long time."

Collarbin was handling Felix's presence really well and for that she nearly smiled. It was good to see the two reaching a consenus on things. No Felix attacks and no Collarbin retaliation. Perfect this system was perfect. Even after he appeared through the portrait hole her kneazle paid him very little attention. This behaviour she understood. He was hungry and prepared to do very little til he was fed. It was all the same to her really. If he didn't move about then she wouldn't have to put too much into restraining him and could turn her full attention to the Professor...
....
......who was asking about her badge.
She tried to play it off as casual. "Oh...you know...up in my trunk. Same as last time you asked." Which was a couple months ago when she thought about it. Good on him for not bringing it up in so long but apparently he wanted to now..."I was gonna turn it in to Bentley but Professor Airey convinced me not to..." And the Headmistress had been nice about it too, she just....didn't know.

Penelope was working on getting as much of the areas around the Gryffindor common room as warm as possible. These were some of the areas she spent a lot of time in, after all, so she wanted them warmer. And all the other Gryffindors would surely appreciate it too, yeah?
So after finishing up in her dorm, she made her way down and through the portrait hole. Pulling her wand out again, she moved around the area, guiding her wand again in the infinity sign, and said, "Caelum Saepio!" The fog appeared and then faded as usual. She continued with this around the area, making sure to get the corners too just 'cause it seemed like a good idea.
Once satisfied that that was enough, she moved on down the corridor.

Leah was sure the Valentine triplets' signs were Aries. The card AJ gave her during divination on Valentine's day was still on her bedside table, and she remembered saying something about awesome Aries that day. Anyway, that was the reason the second year was up here in the seventh floor, holding a fortune cookie in one hand.
She reached a portrait of a fat lady (who would draw a portrait of HER?) and looked around. It had to be somewhere around here.. but there was no sign of an entrance anywhere. Leah pulled her cloak closer to her and sighed. This was stupid, planning to wait for any one of the triplets to come out and try her cookie. Leah pouted and faced the lady. "Hi, do you know where the Gryffindor common room is? Or the Ravenclaw one?" She definitely did not want to freeze here.
Angel smiled as she finally found somewhere else to insulate, she really hoped the fat lady wasn't getting really cold with all this cold weather around, she wondered if all the portraits actually felt the weather as well... well they could talk after all.
"Caelum Saepio!!" Angel did the wand movement and smiled as it worked, well she thought it had anyway. "Caelum Saepio!!" Angel did it for a second time because she just wanted to make sure that everything was perfected for the fat lady.

The lion had finally finished her charms homework and was making her way back to her common room to warm up. There was a fireplace and chocolate frogs that were calling her name. As she made her way down to the portrait she saw a familiar face.
"Hey Leah, what's up?" And was that a cookie in her hand? Was she going to share? AJ gave the girl a warm smile while she waited for Leah's response. It was too bad she was in a different house, otherwise AJ would have invited her in. It seemed silly that people from other houses couldn't see their common room.

The fat lady did not even GLANCE at Leah. That was getting annoying, because she was rarely ignored before. Frowning, she turned around, her arms crossed in front of her chest. Maybe this was the wrong portrait to talk too, maybe she should try the knocker thing at the other side of the seventh floor. That one seemed suspicious.
That was why the second year was shocked when she saw AJ standing by to her the next moment. "Merlin, don't sneak up on me like that." Leah said, stepping back slightly. It took her a moment to realize that AJ was the one of the people she wanted to see. "Oh and hi, would you like a fortune cookie, my Awesome Aries friend?" She held up the cookie in her hand and showed it to her.

Oh, did she scare her? AJ really didn't mean to. The firstie didn't think that she was walking that quietly down the corridor. Maybe not even she was aware of her super ninja walking skills. "Sorry, didn't mean to scare ya."
When recognition hit, AJ beamed at her friend. "For me?" The lion would never turn down a cookie. "Awful nice of you to make one for me." She took the cookie and broke it in half. She popped of piece into her mouth while she read the message. "My life isn't boring." Far from it actually. "The cookie is yummy, and good job on the fortune message thing." That fortune could apply to anybody and that was what the professor was going for. "Maybe I will have to go out with a bang." Her fortune pretty much gave her permission to do just that.

Professor Airey? Huh. That was curious. "I always thought it was the Head of House that chose the Prefects..." though that would explain why he said all he had when they were baking down in the kitchen..."And you're just saying that to get me to put the badge back on." Which, admittedly was something she'd been thinking about doing lately but every time she looked at her trunk she couldn't yank it open. It wasn't impossible to help without a badge, right? She still did what she could though she was completely put off where class help was concerned. If the members of Gryffindor wanted to burn a room down she'd neatly pack her things and head to the kitchen for a snack. So done helping.
She shrugged at his question finding she didn't really know the answer herself. "Keeping warm, I guess?" That was all the explanation she had to offer for the time being. Did she still have doubts? Yes but the doubts grew at the realization she was letting the doubts win.
"Wanna know something Sir? Professor Bellaire had a party the other day. Kevin and his friend tried breaking uninvited and I hexed him. It felt good and if the Professor wasn't worried about law suits for the school and the storm hadn't come, I'd have left him like that to rot." Even admitting that felt good. No wonder people like confessionals, Merlin. "I said that to say, he's a problem, his behaviour and without a badge, I'm far less obligated to care about that no hexing rule. His friend was there. Know what he said? Prefects aren't meant to do that." It irked her the kid didn't note the lack of a badge, but he had a point.

Leah heaved a sigh of relief. "No, it's okay, I was probably over-reacting." She had this over-reacting habit very often, but this time it was quite scary. How did AJ appear anyway? From.. the portrait of the fat lady? Impossible, no one would have that portrait to be an entrance to a common room. Leah shook that thought away.
"Yep, for you. I was hoping to catch you sooner, it was getting cold." She said, returning the huge smile. She watched as AJ ate a part of the cookie. How was it, hmm? Oh right, the homework was about the fortune not the cookie. Leah turned her attention to the parchment that popped out instead. "Oh, did I write that?" she said, reading her words upside-down. Yeah she did write about boring lives. Aah the Hufflepuff should have looked for someone with a less exciting life then, not a Gryffindor who probably would be adventurous all day. Still, she could not help but smile at the compliment. "Thank you AJ." This girl was good at these stuff. "Cool, but don't cause trouble. And say hello to Angel for me, won't you?" Leah said winking, and turned back to leave.

She misunderstood him. Cosgrach shook his head.
"Bentley chose you, yes," he said, "but how Airey kept you from returning your badge?" He looked at her as if he couldn't care less whether she believed him or not. "And I am not just saying it. There are plenty other prefect candidates. I mean it when I say you are one of the best I have ever seen." He snorted and rolled his eyes then. He wanted to point out badges didn't need to keep warm, but apparently, he'd misjudged her. She wasn't the brave girl she seemed to be, but someone wrapped in stupid self disappointments and fears of disappointing others. But, if then... why was he even wasting his breath on her? He looked bored and might have shrugged and left her there - he really couldn't care less who Gryffindor prefects were - but he didn't. Not for her sake, but for his: it wouldn't be nice of a professor to encourage a good prefect to quit.
So he listened to her story and looked at her in a serious manner. This wasn't a casul conversation anymore, not for him.
"I take back what I've said, okay? Burn that cursed handbook if you must. I have never hexed Kevin, but he just doesn't understand words. So you put that stupid badge on and prefect."

Yeah, she was, but it was cool. Things came out of your mouth when you were scared. "No biggie." AJ wasn't worried about it.
"Cold or not, it was still really yummy." In fact, the gryffindor wished that she could have another one. "You're welcome." She still needed to do her Divination homework, and that was a depressing thought. She actually had way more than just Divination to do. She should probably just march right back into her common room and get on that. "Me? Cause trouble? No way." It really was something that she would do though. "I will. Bye Leah." Homework time. She had no more excuses.

Okay? Okay.
And here was where she soaked it in, the compliment after compliment that was sometimes nice before breakfast. Many candidates but she was one of the bests. The girl was a Gryffindor, no questions asked but for as long as she'd been alive she'd been a praised and conceited one. She...wondered if she should tell him what she was about to say but thought better of it and let him continued.
His expression told her he'd taken her story serious enough so now it was a matter of waiting...and waiting and...--Op! THERE we go. The most conningsweetest of smiles spread across her face. He'd finally done it. He'd basically told her to forget not being allowed to hex.
"I'll gladly put the badge back on Professor." It's like she wanted to tell the Headmistress, she didn't plan to not prefect though she did want to show the Professor that his words had consequences but of course you don't get half as many compliments when people know you're being spiteful. The fact he told her to burn a book if she must said he'd learned well. "And I'm glad you agree it's a stupid badge too." The smile slipped into a grin.
She was sold on the idea of wearing her badge the moment Bunz told her she'd let a book beat her but she wouldn't rob Collarbin of the chance to convince her himself and you know what? The whole burning the book did the trick. "You're welcome to the lighting ceremony if you'd like." He could watch the burning too. Did she think she was above rules? No. But it was sometimes easier prefecting when you forgot them.
