Stepping into the arena, you are immediately enveloped with the light shining into the room, either morning or evening depending on what time you decide to enter, yet it's as chilly as a snow covered stone statue. An extra cloak or two would be helpful. If you can tear your gaze away from the intricately designed windows and high ceilings could, you can see to the very right of the room, there is the long platform in which supervised duels will take place while four benches on either side are placed at a safe distance for those who would like to sit and watch. Just ahead of the platform in the right corner, there is a door, though pay no attention to it. It's locked for a reason.
Towards the back wall, there are various types of practice dummies, both stationary and moving, depending on what difficulty the practicer wants. Don't be afraid to go all out with your spells, for these dummies are charmed to repair themselves. There is one practice dummy set aside that will shoot spells back to the practicer, however, permission from a Professor is required to use it. To the left side of the arena are two sets of stands, eight seats high, that look out to the entire arena, comfortable for those who would just like to watch what's going on all around or for general purposes such as studying or relaxing after a long day in the arena.
The middle of the room is quite empty, due to the fact that the defense Professor enjoys presenting lessons in here, but please, despite the brilliant light that shines through the arena due to the large windows, it is not some place to sunbathe or fall asleep. You will be levitated out with a good dose of cold water splashed on you if caught.

Huh.
And now she was making sense. What she said, Noel nodded at that. Determination. Check.
But before he went for another hit, he watched her. And his OF COURSE his eyes widened."YES I DID! HOLY MOLY THAT WAS SO FREAKIN' COOL."
Determined, and pumped up as ever - the twelve year old pointed at his own dummy, blocking everything else out and shouted the spell: REDUCTO! followed by the quick wand moment.
AND BLAST. It wasn't ashes like the girl beside her - but the dummy broke into large pieces. Waho.
"Can we do that .. to every dummy over here?" he asked, voice small in awe.
Maddie raised her eyebrows at the eyeroll, head tilted to the side as if trying to decide whether or not that action deserved some kind of response. In the end she let it slide. She'd made an assumption about him that was apparently wrong so she GUESSED he had the right to react in that way. "I'll let you know when I've decided." She was still making up her mind about him, y'know?
RIGHT?
Maddie was smirking as she admired her work. The dummy looked quite silly without a head but it served as a reminder that she'd done the spell correctly once and she most certainly could do it again. All she needed to do was try.
Then HE did HIS spell correctly and Maddie considered him, mildly impressed. "Nice." And his dummy had broken apart more than hers had which was interesting. Perhaps she'd been focusing TOO hard on the head when she'd done her spell and THAT'S why she'd only gotten that part to break apart.
"We sure could. S'not like anyone wrote their name on them AND Professor Romanos DOES want us to practice."
SPEAKING of, she had a torso to destroy.
She considered the entire area as she trained her wand, eyes narrowed once again in concentration. Her expression was more confident this time, success having given her that extra boost she needed.
"Reducto!" The first year flicked her wand one way and then the other, watching as light streamed from the tip of her wand towards the dummy and blasted its midsection apart.
Brown eyes widened and a slow smile creeped on to her face. She'd done it. Maybe not in ONE go but she had. That was something to be proud of.

Reductoooooooooor. Mo was excited to practice the charm again, this time outside of class, and he was excited to be practicing with his favorite little buddy. Or not his actual little buddy, who he noted was already in the Dueling Arena, but his... Sophie. Mo waved cheerfully at Maddie as he took up a spot on the other side of the room.
He unslung his satchel, dragged out two dummies for them to practice, and then... waited. Girls were never late. They were always arriving just when they intended to arrive. In the meantime, Mo swept his wand from side to side, warming up on that zig zaggy wand motion.

Sophie totally intended to show up just when she did, and she wasn't at all surprised to see Mo already there. Typical, really. The big nerd.
"Hi Mo," Soph greeted casually, flicking her wand from its holster as she approached him, eyeing the dummies. "Thanks for saving our spot and getting us set up. This half hour should be a breeeeze." It would, really, wouldn't it? She had done the spell pretty well during class, and she'd seen Mo get the hang of it just fine, too, so... she supposed this would be more like a time for fun and games than actual homework.
Mimicking his wand motions for a moment, Sophie scooted close to him to nudge into him, grinning big. "Y'should go first. You're the big bad seventh year pro and all - show us all how it's done." She stepped back, then, crossing one arm to latch onto her elbow and smiled over at lil baby Cooper, who seemed to have mastered the spell pretty well already. Impressive, that one was.

"You're trying to sweet talk me," Mo scoffed a little at Sophie, but it was mostly just fond bluster. It was nice to see her there, all perky and enthusiastic and ready for business. This was how Ravenclaw got it done. He fussed over her dummy a while longer before stepping back and taking up a position next to her.
The spell wasn't that hard, and he had a feeling they already had it mastered. Maybe they ought to blow off this half hour and just agree they'd mastered the spell between the two of them? Then again, Mo really didn't want to be the one to corrupt his baby Sophie.
"I'll go first, at your generous suggestion." He removed his wand from his holster and pointed it at the dummy before flicking it to the right and then the left. "Reducto." The head of the dummy exploded rather more tidily than one would expect, and Mo nodded at Sophie.

Easy.
"I'm good at it, aren't I?" And Sophie knew he loved being buttered up. It was easy to do, too, considering how many nice things there were to say about Mo. She didn't even have to lie.
Generous suggestion. She giggled a little at that and, though she clapped for him a few times, she was not at all surprised at how simple the task was for him. Hm. Since he made it look so easy, Sophie stepped forward toward her dummy, raised her wand, and flicked it sharply to the right then to the left with confidence, "Reducto!" The head exploded off her dummy at the neck and shot straight up into the air, landing in one piece on the other side of Mo.
Huh. Well, she'd take that.
"I wish these were moving targets. That'd be way more fun." Didn't he think so?

"You're good at a lot of things. It's the Ravenclaw in you." Or the part of her that was related to Max... Mo wasn't always clear on how they were related, but he rather thought that his sister's boyfriend the Quidditch star was good at everything, just like his Sophie was. Mo stood back and watched her cast, his arms crossed and expression somber.
Guh. This little bird was seriously under his skin. Mo tried not to swell with pride and enthusiasm when she got the head blasted off on the first TRY. "Reparo," Mo put both dummies back together again as he considered her suggestion. Making the dummies move WOULD be a challenge, and they sort of needed something to fill out this session.
"I did that with Kyroh's pajamas. Did you hear?" Mo pointed his wand at the dummies. "Piertotum Locomotor." Sophie's dummy stretched and stood up before lumbering in her direction.

BEAM. Sophie ate up all of Mo's words of encouragement normally, but this was even better - the RAVENCLAW in her. Ha! She wished Mo would tell that to her parents, who were still a little baffled that she was in Ravenclaw when there was so much Gryffindor in her. But MO saw her for who she really was - an eagle at heart, absolutely, and there was no house in the world she'd rather be in.
She thought her blast had been only a mild success since there weren't a million pieces of the dummy all over, but upon seeing Mo's attempts to not look proud of her, her expression turned smug. Apparently he was impressed, wasn't he? He didn't have to hide it. She knew.
"You did what?" For real? "When? And why?" She was laughing, then, and even moreso when he charmed the newly-repared dummy to come to life. And move toward her. "You're gonna have to teach me this one." She grinned, backing away quickly and flicking her wand at it again, "Reducto!" Blue light shot from the tip of her wand and grazed the dummy's shoulder, much to her dismay, but she tried again without hesitation with more force behind her words, "Reducto!" BOOOOOM. Pieces of the dummy flew off in all directions, and Soph turned to smile proudly at Mo after lazily reparing her own dummy. "Your turn."

"Dunno. Ni and Ben and I overheard him and Dima on about trying out spells that weren't really spells, and so we just... made all those spells real. Magically appearing donuts and pajamas that moved on their own. It was cool. Those two little Claws are cool." And it was gonna be Sophie's responsibility to take care of them. Did she know that already?
He watched her decimate the dummy, again, and then put it back together. Clever girl. She probably could handle some harder spells. "I'll teach it to you later, ok? It's not hard, although it takes a lot of effort to keep up spell at first. I'm getting better at casting it and then letting them manage themselves." But it was hard. They'd have to work at it.
"Piertotum Locomotor," Mo cast on his dummy, and watched it lumber to its feet and progress on him. Not as good as the one who came after Sophie, since Mo had to switch from controlling the dummy to casting against it. He swished his wand back and forth as he said, "Reducto." The blue light burst from his wand and clipped the top of the dummy's head. He cast again. "Reducto." This time, the spell hit the dummy square in the torso, blowing it backwards and disintegrating it until it was little more than a pile of limbs.

Sophie snorted at the mental imagery of the seventh year boys' antics and wished she'd been there to see them. "Bet they thought that was way cool." Kyroh and Dima seemed like the type to be super fascinated rather than spooked by something like that. "Yeah, I haven't talked with 'em or anything, but Culloden took a liking to them... and so did you... and Tobes, so they're all right in my book. Guess I'm missing out on something." It just wasn't high on her hobby list to go making friends with first year boys without a good reason.
Not hard for him, maybe, but transfiguration spells were her weakest area - didn't stop her from wanting to learn, of course, since it was super cool, but she gave him a questioning sort of look anyway. "Okay." She watched him successfully do what she had done - though he missed on the first try, too - except he had blasted his dummy into many more bits than she had. Like, a lot more. Whoa. "That..." she stared first at the strewn limbs, then at Mo, "...was totally wicked. You're really good at this." Though she shouldn't have been as surprised or impressed as she was, certainly. Of course Mo was a pro. She'd already established that.
She checked her watch, glad that they'd killed so much time so far, and pointed her wand at her repaired dummy. Swish and flick. "Wingardium Leviosa." Then she promptly levitated her dummy right at Mo, fully intending to have it tackle him if he wasn't fast enough. HEHE.

"You'll like them. Maybe. Sometimes you need people to grow up a little before you see what they have to offer. Like Lex Cambridge. She was a holy terror up until about five minutes ago, and it's nice to find that we're actually friend," Mo repaired his dummy and banished it to the wall again. Wasn't their time up? Or nearly?
"Not really good. I get Charms, and they always work better when you understand how they work. Reductor has to do with sound waves, although they aren't at a frequency we can hear." Mo holstered his wand and turned back to Sophie, only to find that there was a dummy flying at his head. He tried to duck, but was taken out in a pile of limbs.
"Merlin... what happened?" He tried to scrabble out from under the dummy, but to no avail.

As Mo made conversation about Alexa Cambridge, Soph had taken the opportunity to cast reducto at her dummy again and put it back together with ease. "Can't say I'm surprised she was a terror once. Glad she's better, though." She had to be, didn't she? Since that she was a prefect and all? Soph figured badges sobered people's tendencies to be obnoxious.
Sophie hadn't even realized Mo had put his wand away until it was too late, but she probably would've let the dummy fly into him anyway, even if he'd seen it. Wasn't like it was going to hurt him or anything. She giggled as soon as it made contact, though, and holstered her wand, quick to follow suit of the dummy and jump on Mo and the pile of limbs. "Gotcha." Beeeam.

Mo grumbled with good nature as he ruffled Sophie's hair and pushed both her AND the dummy off of himself. Gently, but definitely off all the essential body parts they were smushing. He banished the dummy to the back of the room with a flick of his wand and just LOOKED at Sophie, soberly, for a long minute before cracking a smile.
"You're the holy terror in my life now, huh? I say... good practice, we're well and equally matched, and we should go to the kitchens next. I know where Cat hides the cookies."

Sophie snickered and rolled off Mo, laying on her side facing him with her head propped up on her arm, as smug as could be. She didn't think he was really truly mad for even a second, but she was elated all the same when he smiled. "Would you have it any other way?" Of course he wouldn't. "Your life would be no fun without me." Not true, but she knew she totally spiced up his life.
She knew Mo was just humoring her because there was no way they were equally matched, but she wasn't going to protest such a compliment. Heh. "C'mon," she rose, taking his hand and leading him with a bounce in her step for the door, "let's goooooo eat all the cookies." All of them. ALL GONE.
Well, excellent. Lotus was just in the right mood to practice this spell. In the right mood. Meaning, she was looking forward to things being reduced to... nothing. Fun, yes? Extremely, she could see why her best friend was so pro-explosions. Though, Lottie was a big fan of fireworks and that counted as one.
The real question was... why did they have to practice with a dummy, you know? Surely, there was someone crazy enough who'd volunteer for this. It'd make practice even better because then you'd have no do-overs, you'd literally have to try your hardest on round one, and then you could go to... Airey's office, for example, which she had yet to visit.
The man will probably think she was mad at him or something. For not visiting sooner, that is.
BUT RIGHT. Reducto. That's what she was here for. It took her no time to get ready for practice. Constant Vigilance, yo!

He was pretty proud of himself but his dummy hadn't really turned into ashes likes hers had and that was KIND of disappointing. But oh well. He would get over it.
Not being able to resist himself - the boy pointed his wand again to the broken pieces. Now to turn them into ash! "REDUCTO" Blue light emerged, but the bigger broken piece only broke more. No ash.
And again. "REDUCTO" AND ASH. YESS!
He nodded in agreement when she spoke next. THEY could. But they could also go have ice cream or something after all this exhaustive practicing. Phew.
"Do you wanna go celebrate the destruction of dummies with icecream?" he voiced out his thoughts. "Unless of course you DO want to practice more," Cause you know, she was a Ravenclaw. "Cause you do look like the studying type," he added grinning.

Considering he hadn't been able to cast the spell in question properly in class, Dima wasn't exactly looking forward to practicing it on his own time. But Toussaints weren't quitters, and since he was a Toussaint (the inside of all his textbooks said so!), the first year planned to follow through with it.
He showed up at the arena bright and early with nothing but his wand, ready to SHOW some DUMMIES who the BOSS WAS.
It was him. Just FYI.
Only one problem. "Excuse me! Do you remember the movement for the Reductor Curse?" 'Cause he didn't.

Marigold gritted her teeth as she practiced the wand movement again. She would not mess up this time, no. She faced the dummy, pointed her wand right at in, made the sideways v, and nearly shouted, "REDUCTO!" Then she blinked rapidly because the arms of the dummy had blasted off. A grin slowly spread across her face.

Only one problem. "Excuse me! Do you remember the movement for the Reductor Curse?" 'Cause he didn't.
Who dared--Oh, it was him!
You know, she failed to get his name during that YB meeting, not like she'd cared to get it anyway, it wasn't of any use. But she knew him. HIS VOICE. It held some annoyance in its tone. Pity, it was not his fault, but she'll treat him as if it was. Where's your fairness, Lotus?
"I do." Ob-viously. Not her first time, or second, or third. Just saying. "Do you want it performed on you?" She smirked, and considered it for a moment. It wasn't worth it. And he'll be missed. Probably. If Lex didn't think he was worth a Silencing Charm, then he was definitely not worth this.
So, OUT OF THE GOODNESS OF HER HEART... yes, she had that, okay... she answered him. "Just picture a sideway V. A flick to the right, then another to the left...," she was showing him now, because she was OH-SO-HELPFUL, "Reducto!"And goodbye, dummy. A real dummy, not the kid beside her. "And that's it." She added, looking at the ashes of a perfectly good (before) practice dummy.

AHHHHHHH!
Sophie had answered her Defense homework questions days ago. She thought she was all done until she realized they were also meant to be polishing up on the Reductor Curse, as well. The professor would know if she hadn't practiced. She'd be terrible at the spell, that's what would happen.
Sigh.
She hurried and sat up a dummy and stood in front of it, trying her best to imagine it as one of those creepy 'Cold Ones'. Ewwww. She shivered a bit thinking about them. She would never tell a soul, but she'd had a bad dream about them two nights ago. Ugh.
...but she knew how to defeat them. She pointed her wand toward the dummy then made that sideways arrow motion with her wand. "Reducto!" she exclaimed.

Caleb was prepared and ready to practice! He had a good feeling about the duelling arena today - he just FELT like he was going to rock the Reducto spell.
There were quite a few people already getting to work on the practicing, but Caleb still found himself a dummy hanging out near the back of the room to work with. He took his wand out of his bag and positioned himself to start the practice. He aimed directly at the dummy and yelled "Reducto!" as he moved his wand right then left, slashing across the air in front of the dummy's chest.
BOOM! The dummy flew back, then snapped back into place. Caleb wasn't sure if it was charmed to do that, or if he'd done something wrong and that was why it bounced back.
He'd just say it was charmed to be that way. Yeah, that was it.

Older buddy guy! Maddie waaaaaaaved at Mo when she saw him come in and gave him a BIG smile because she needed to stay on his good side and all. Did he SEE her doing her homework? That totally deserved brownie points! IT DID.
Maddie watched as the boy turned the bits of dummy to ash, amused. He was thorough, she'd give him that. And all in all, working beside him hadn't been HORRIBLE so she could label this little experience a success, YUP.
Har, har. He was giving HER a type now. The small brunette SQUINTED at him like she was mad and then eventually cracked a smile. "I HATE studying but I DO like to learn." If that made sense. "Ice cream sounds good too. We earned it."
Picking her bag up off the floor, the ravenclaw heaved it over her shoulder and then glanced in the older boy's direction. "You coming or what?" Then she holstered her wand and lead the way to the kitchen.

Caleb was starting to get hungry. Darn. He should have eaten lunch before he came to practice because now all he could think of was FOOD. Still, he knew he had to concentrate and really focus on this dummy and practicing the spell. What if he got attacked by a zombie in the future? He needed to be ready to GO and kick some zombie butt!
"Reducto!" he exclaimed, focusing veryyyy hard on the dummy and moving his wand in the arrowlike movement through the air. BOOM! The dummy flew through the air and against the wall. Awesome!! Take THAT fake!zombie!
He walked over and picked up the dummy which of course looked like new again. He set it back up and walked back to his practice spot, ready to try again.

Sophie braced herself for the effects of her casting. If this all worked the way it should, she should have blasted the zombie to bits and pieces. She waited a second later, and then...
...nothing.
WHAAAA?! Had this been a real zombie, she'd be toast by now. Okay, focus, Sophie. Focus. She stared at the zombie and put all her intent into blasting it to little bitty bits and pieces. She raised her wand to it once again then slashed it to the right then to the left.
"REDUCTO!" she said, with much more force than before. She didn't even have to wait this time. As soon as the words were out her mouth, the zombie blew to those bits and pieces she'd pictured. "Yes!"

Defense wasn't his best subject and that was for good reason. He wasn't that much a fan of practicing what they learned, at least outside the lesson. Plant care and dealing with animals attracted him on his free time so those lessons weren't that hard to keep up with or do homework for. But he still had to do it because it was required for homework so Benny made sure to spend some time in the dueling arena. If only he had Adi or someone else to work with.
Coming closer to the dummies, the third year singled out one to use for his practicing. One that was somewhere away from any others that might be working. No point in needing to worry about anything flying from other dummies. The reductor curse could have some mean debris after all. Situating him a good distance away, Benny planted his feet and took out his wand and took a deep breath to prepare himself.
"Reducto!" Flick to the left and to the right.
His wand flashed and sent a reaction like it was correct but nothing happened as it hit the dummy. Well that didn't go right.

WOOT!
Sophie grinned to herself as she realized she'd just defeated a ZOMBIE! Sure, it was a dummy that she only pictured to be a zombie, but who was being that technical? Not her! She decided to try a bit more so turned to collect another zombie dummy to hopefully blast to pieces like the other one.
She fixed the zombie in front of her then walked a few steps back.
Picturing what she wanted to do and putting all her intent and focus into this seemed to work last time, so that's what she decided to do this time, too. Once she got a good mental picture in her mind, she raised her wand and slashed it to the right then the left.
