Stepping into the arena, you are immediately enveloped with the light shining into the room, either morning or evening depending on what time you decide to enter, yet it's as chilly as a snow covered stone statue. An extra cloak or two would be helpful. If you can tear your gaze away from the intricately designed windows and high ceilings could, you can see to the very right of the room, there is the long platform in which supervised duels will take place while four benches on either side are placed at a safe distance for those who would like to sit and watch. Just ahead of the platform in the right corner, there is a door, though pay no attention to it. It's locked for a reason.
Towards the back wall, there are various types of practice dummies, both stationary and moving, depending on what difficulty the practicer wants. Don't be afraid to go all out with your spells, for these dummies are charmed to repair themselves. There is one practice dummy set aside that will shoot spells back to the practicer, however, permission from a Professor is required to use it. To the left side of the arena are two sets of stands, eight seats high, that look out to the entire arena, comfortable for those who would just like to watch what's going on all around or for general purposes such as studying or relaxing after a long day in the arena.
The middle of the room is quite empty, due to the fact that the defense Professor enjoys presenting lessons in here, but please, despite the brilliant light that shines through the arena due to the large windows, it is not some place to sunbathe or fall asleep. You will be levitated out with a good dose of cold water splashed on you if caught.
Angel smiled as she thought about her few things. "Time to give it ago!" Angel really thought it was going to be interesting and she hoped that no one would get hurt because she was struggling.
"Reducto!" Angel pointed her wand at the dumpy but nothing happened, she then tried again. "Reducto!!" Angel pouted as she did the wand movement and once again nothing happened. "Oh what is going on." Angel glared at her wand. "You have three seconds to work."
"Reducto!" Angel looked and prayed.
O_________o
Angel couldn't believe it. She waved her wand like crazy and then it flew out of her hand and straight towards the back of a girl that was already studying.
Lucy walked near to the middle of the arena..
Lucy saw the other classmates and she copied them..She went in front of the dummies.
She started to say the name of the spell:RE-DU-CTO"
She said to herself:"It's simple,Lucy.."
Then she began to concentrate about the movement of the wand

Squaring his shoulders, Ethan prepared for the next blow as he watched the dummy regenerate itself. The Slytherin grinned at his progress, and made a mental note to owl his dad that he was finally getting the hang of things. Now that he knows what it feels to focus, channel his intent through his wand, and follow it through, he was sure that he will get the next shot perfectly.
The dummy was half-way through regenerating when he casted the spell on it. Impatient little Slytherin he was. Yup. “REDUCTO!” Ethan smiled and pumped both of his fists in the air. “All right!” His third attempt wasn’t a lucky shot after all. He really got this spell, and is now etched in his brain and memory.
Good!
He could use some more practice, but lunch must happen. Growing boy and all that, yeah? Yeah. Ethan looked at the dummy once more and smirked at it before he headed out the door. Heh. Who would have thought that DADA would actually save his day?

Not really expecting miracles to happen on her first try, AJ wasn't that let down. Although it did suck that she had to struggle. Why couldn't she just be gifted in that way? How cool would it be if she could just breeze through everything without a care in the world?
Focus, she needed to focus. This was most likely one of the main reasons why she was struggling. Her mind always wanted to wander off to other things. Focusing her attention back on the dummy. She was in the zone, she was ready. "Redu" Smack! What in the world had just hit her? Looking down she saw that somebody had lost control of their wand. Of course it had to hit her right when she was in the zone. Who knew what amazingness she was about to pull off. Looking for the culprit, her eyes immediately looked with her sister. She had that look on her face, and she knew it was her. "Oi, I'm trying to concentrate over here." Do you mind? The first year threw the wand back to her sister. "Catch." And if at all possible it would be nice if she kept the wand firmly in her hand.
AJ felt a little bad about it, but she had tons of work to get through and she wanted to be done with this like yesterday. Trying to get out of her annoyed mood, she lifted her wand once more. "Reducto!" Some kind of light shot from her wand, but it had to be the wrong kind because nothing happened. Thanks a lot Angel.
Slytherindor ♛ The Crazytastic Besties ♛ Shan Watson ♛
All he had to do was steady his aim, right?
He took a deep breath, moved his wand in the v-formation from left to right, and repeated the incantation. "Reducto!"
......Aaand nothing happened.
No! He must have done something wrong. But what had he done wrong? The prefectionist began to wonder what could have went wrong. He said the incantation correctly, right? Yep. He moved his wand in the v-formation? Yep. Was it in the right direction? ..Uhh... Simon frowned. No, it had been in the wrong direction.
Angel blushed as her sister seemed to tell her off. "I am so sorry Sis." Angel pouted as she caught her wand. "I seriously didn't mean to lose control of my wand." Angel was now really upset and her sister seemed to be really mad with her which wasn't a good idea.
"Reducto!" Angels head wasn't in it at the minute and so she wasn't surprised when her spell failed, she was so sure it was her sister fault, she had put a spell on her to make her feel bad by not being able to do anything. "Reducto!!" Angel tried again but once again it didn't seem like anything was working for her today.

Okay, so she probably went a little overboard with her sister, and now she was feeling bad for it. "No, I'm sorry. I'm just irritated that I am struggling so much with my wand work." Surely, she would understand. "Let's both just focus and get this over with." Because she was so over this homework assignment now. Where was Adi or Ethan when you needed them?
Trying to push all thoughts and emotions out of her mind she refocused her attention on the dummy. All she could see was the dummy exploding. Raising her wand arm she made the sideways v motion while shouting "Reducto!" To her amazement, there was light shooting from her wand, and it actually made contact with the dummy. Little chunks had flown off. "I did it, did you see Angel?" Did she? Huh, huh, huh? It made not have been as strong as it should be, but it was definitely something to be proud of.
Angel was still upset that her sister had snapped at her but well she wanted to get this done and now her sister was angry with her it seemed. "Okay sis." Angel wondered if her sis was going to ignore her once this was finished because it had been her fault she failed.
"Okay" Angel was about to do it when Aubrey spoke. "Awesome!!" Angel smiled as her sister did the spell and now it was her turn she would have to try and do her best to get the spell done, she didn't normally have this much trouble with spells.
"Reducto!!" Angel concentrated really hard as she did the wand movement and she smiled as the spell hit the dummy. "Aubrey, I did it, did you see?" Angel was totally happy now, all the thought of her sister being mad with her had gone now.

Cris smiled down at Zander. "Nice to meet you Zander. I have to say that you're doing really great with that Reductor Curse. Yes, Bay is a great teacher, Lux," Cris nodded is head in agreement on hearing Lux compliment her boyfriend.
He was disappointed when Bay said he had to leave but he understood his reasons. He was barely keeping up with homework too. "Yeah sure Bay. Catch you later," Cris waved goodbye to his friend before turning back to the others.
"So are you all done practicing the spell?" Cris asked the others.
Entering the Dueling Arena again, the first thing Leah noticed was the dummy. And the people surrounding it. Dodging students and their Reductor Curses, the second year found a spot and pulled out her wand.
Over the past few days, she had forgotten how to perform the spell. "Reducto reducto reducto" she muttered, doing the wand movement, what was it? A sideways v? A small beam of light appeared at the tip of her wand. Okay, she was ready to do this.
Admiratrice des Maraudeurs | C-Rizzle | THE Best Snuggler
Marigold mumbled under her breath the incantation as she walked into the arena, saving a little time. "Reducto. Reducto. Reducto." She felt pretty confident about the speaking part, it was the wand movement that she was scared of. Therefore, once she reached nearly the middle of the room and put her bag down, she took her wand out. It was a v to the right, yeah? Or to the left? She thought for a moment, then grinned and practiced it the correct way. She did it a couple times, then stared at the dummy in front of her. "You ready?" Should she bow to it for authentic feels?

He didn't fell off of the platform but he landed on his side and even rolled a bit further to the edge of the platform. When he stopped, the Gryffindor groaned as he grabbed his shoulder. "Owww...." it hurt! He had fallen down so many times in his life but this time it bloody hurt!
This was NOT how he had pictured that the duel would go. He had pictured it with an audience and everyone cheering for him as he would win from the Professor! Chyeeaah, he was glad there was no one around to watch now...
The boy got up on one knee and realised that something was missing. His wand! Where was it?! Looking around, frantic with worry, he spotted his wand a few steps away from him and after glancing up at the Professor he quickly jumped up and ran over to it.
Reaching it, he grabbed it but stumbled over as he did so he pointed it in the direction man. "Everte Statum!" ..............nothing happened. Panicking, Kevin WAVED his wand around, creating smoke in the air but he ignored it. "Everte Statum! Everte Statum!" Orange light finally flew out of the wand and raced its way over to the man.
In the mean time, Kevin was coughing because of the smoke.
Airey just barely had enough time to raise an unamused eyebrow at Mr. Hirase for the snarky comment, but he refrained from commenting further for the time being. Besides, the angrier the young Gryffindor became the more amused Airey became. Probably a bad thing, but too late to turn back now. "I speak it perfectly fine, thank you for asking," he chuckled. "I can speak a few languages."
All taunting aside, Airey did feel a little bad when the boy went flying backwards and landed with a thud on the platform. Cece would have his head if he arrived at the Hospital Wing with yet another student injured in conjunction to something he had done. Best not send any more harmful spells the Gryffindor's direction.
If only Mr. Hirase felt the same about this duel.
Hunching over quite suddenly to his left - because there was no way he was going to have that spell rebound back towards the young man - the astronomer's leg cramped up as if he had a horrible cramp in his leg. His American mates at NASA called them Charley horses. Stumbling a bit, the professor eventually refound his footing despite some difficulties with only having one arm to help. The pain in his leg lessening enough that he could stand up straight, Airey smirked and thrust his wand towards his opponent.
"Tarantallegra!"

The first year was feeling good. She had FINALLY managed to get the spell right. She looked over at her sister as she went on about something. Realizing that she too had managed to get the spell to work, she gave her a huge smile. "Way to go Ang!" They were both doing well now.
Hoping that it was just just good luck on her part, she decided to give it another go. "Recuto!" Sideways v motion with her wand was done. Light once again shot out from her wand and managed to blow off a chunk of his head. "Wicked!" Feeling all confident now she wanted to try one more time before she called it a day.
She waited while the dummy reconstructed itself. That was still pretty awesome to watch. Once it was done, she once again raised her wand arm. "Reducto." Making the correct wand movement, she watched in amazement as once again she managed to shatter the dummy. This time it was much better. She felt like she had a good handle on it now.
Gathering her stuff, it was finally time to leave. "Catch you later sis." The firstie walked out of the dueling area in search of food. Blowing dummies to smithereens sure did help you work up an appetite.

How could he have been so silly?
...Never mind that now. He pushed the thoughts away from him. He needed to focus. He needed to get it right.
Taking another deep breath, Simon re-steadied himself and focused. Right to left. Right to left. He moved his wand in the v-formation from right to left, making certain that his aim was at the dummy's head. A jolt of blue flew out of his wand and pierced the dummy's head, obliterating it.
BOOM.
He had done it correctly once. Now he had to make sure that he could replicate it again.
Slytherindor ♛ The Crazytastic Besties ♛ Shan Watson ♛
Okay, he could do this. He had this. Simon had already competed the spell once correctly now he just needed to do it two more times. He took a deep breath, shook his hands out, and then jumped up and down. He had to mentally prepare himself for this. He could do it. Simon Holden could do anything when he put his mind to it.
Right to left. Right to left. Right to left.
He waited for the dummy to rebuild itself. Once it had completed doing so, he took a deep breath. Simon lifted his wand up, aimed it at the dummy, and moved his wand in the correct v-formation from right to left. Then he said the incantation. "Reducto!"
Success! The dummy was obliterated with a loud boom. He waited for the dummy to rebuild itself once again and then repeated the incantation and right wand motion. "Reducto!" he exclaimed as a shot of blue light exited his wand and hit the dummy in the centre. "Awesome," he added with a bright grin playing on his lips.
...I need to concentrate.. Lucy thought..
FOCUS...FOCUS
She moved her wand..she did a movement with her wand like a V and said:"Reducto!"
Lucy did not really know if that was a lucky shot but she had hit a mummy!!!

He continued to cough and wave his free hand to get the smoke away and wasn't able to see if his spell had hit the Professor or not. The Gryffindor got annoyed by the smoke in front of him so he took a step forward and at that moment he saw the Professor stumbling a bit but then found his footing again. Mweh, Kevin wished he had fallen down. But had that meant that his spell had worked? Had it hit its leg or something?
Or maybe he was just hoping to much and.... "WHAA!"
Kevin shrieked. It was funny how he hadn't made a sound when he had been thrown to the other side of the arena but when his feet began to dance uncontrollably, the boy had shrieked. "What..." he was gasping for air now as his feet began to dance faster, he didn't even know that that was possible. "Did you..." more gasping. .. "Do?" What was that spell?! Tarantullara or something? He had to look it up sometimes and practise it and use it on unexpected people...Thanks Professor!
But first....the boy aimed his wand at his own feet and said "Finite!" Having used this spell numerous of times before. It worked at once and his feet stopped dancing. Sweat had appeared on his forehead and the Gryffindor wiped it away while he looked around the arena swiftly.
His eyes caught the attention of the dummies at the back behind the Professor and Kevin grinned. He waved his wand and mumbled "Accio Dummy" As one of the dummies behind he man flew towards him, the Gryffindor was hoping that it would at least hit his back in the process and if not... The boy aimed his wand at the Professor and shouted "Verdimillious!" while doing a forward slash. Green sparks of electrical light sparked out of the wand and flew towards the Astronomy Professor.

Hayden was pretty excited for the DADA homework. It gave her a chance to use a new spell she'd learned. And Hayden loved learning and performing spells. She was dressed in simple jeans and a plain purple T-shirt. When she got to the training area she took her wand out of her pocket and looked around. There were a lot of people, and most of them looked to be doing the same thing she was, doing their DADA homework. She was glad it was something she could do on a dummy so she wouldn't have to do with someone else.
Hayden found a dummy no one was using and stood in front of it. They repaired themselves? That was nice, considering she was going to blow it to smithereens. Hayden regarded the dummy in front of her, glad it couldn't fight back. "Reducto," she said suddenly. She moved her wand sharply to the right and then back to the left. Seconds later, the dummy blew up. Wow, on the first try too. Hayden grinned and jumped up and down a couple times as she waited for the dummy to repair itself. She just couldn't contain her excitement.
Should he start talking to this dummy. He knew he would get no real answers back. But it would cure his boredom and maybe take the repetition of this to the back of his mind. It was just something to ponder. He would not do it though. Maybe if he was alone. But yeah.
"Reducto"
Well this time he concentrated a bit more and bit it straight in the chest. Better than off the shoulder. Maybe he should try something different next time.
Behind his back and cast the spell sounded fun and a little dangerous. So yeah lets do that.

Hayden was happy that her spell had gone so well the first time, and she wondered if it would continue to work. The spell wasn't too difficult. Wait, did spells have varying degrees of difficulty? She was sure that some spells were more advanced than others, but she didn't know why. What made them harder? Hayden pushed the thought from her mind. She was supposed to be working on her homework, she could figure out the answers to her questions later.
"Reducto." She moved her wand to the right and to the left, but nothing happened. Maybe it was because she'd accidentally moved her entire arm. She didn't even know if that was correct but she thought so, that wand movement should be crisp and confined to her wrist. Hayden tried it again. "Reducto." She flicked her wrist sharply to the right, and then back to the left. Again, the dummy in front of her blew up. Wow, what would that spell do to a human?
Aiming her wand at the dummy, Leah said "Reducto!" confidently, doing the sideways 'v' wand movement. Nothing happened. Looking around, embarrassed, she found out that she was doing the movement in the wrong direction.
"Reducto." she said again, moving her wand lazily to the other direction, but nothing happened again. Groan. What was the problem?

The smoke had finally made its way across the stage to the astronomer and he had to wave his hand in front of his face to be able to see. And Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeerlin what a sight it was. All professionalism out the window, Airey snorted and began to chuckle loudly as Mr. Hirase began to dance in place. Maybe he could get a Moon Walk out of the young man before ---- oh, well, poopy. He had removed the spell already.
"Just a charm you can find in your Standard Book of Spells textbook," he winked. Heh. Look at this. Might get him back in that library doing more research!
Suffice to say, Airey was completely unaware that his opponent had just cast a spell under his breath and had instead assumed that the young man was cursing and trying not to say it loud enough for him to hear. You know, since he had warned the Gryffindor about his tone earlier in the duel. What he did notice was the green sparks erupting from his wand. However, before he could do so much as lift his wand to cast a counterspell, the dummy WHACKED him right between the shoulder blades and caused the professor to lunge forward and practically bend over to touch his toes - which ironically meant that the other spell went right over his hunched over body and explode against the back wall with a big ol' BOOM and causing a a few bits of wall to break off and fall to the floor.
"I wasn't aware we were using props, Mr. Hirase," he mused as he straightened himself and raised an eyebrow. He could play that game too. Heh. Avis," he commanded, a small flock of fat round red birds shooting out of his wand and towards Mr. Hirase - their wings flapping all in his face and beaks poking somewhat gently at his head.

Homework that required blasting things? Er, YEAH he was happy about this.
It was probably because of this that made Grayson have a hearty dinner before making his way over towards the first floor for some good ol' healthy duelling. He wanted to be prepared for this, thank you. Needed the appetite if he was going to properly blast things to tiny pieces. He also needed the stamina, which was what was making the boy streeeeeeeetch his his arms out in front of him as he walked down the corridor and towards the door--
......................... HOLY MERLIN. This. Was. BRILLIANT.
He let out a small whistle as his blue eyes took in the room. This was good. Very good. There were even podiums for people to show off their brilliant duelling skills; something he was going to end up doing before the year was out. If he remembered and found the right victim, that is. Some people must get seriously humiliated up there. He was SO coming here more often.
Smirking to himself, the boy took out his wand before heading over towards one of the dummies. They weren't exactly impressive looking but they were going to have to do. Deciding to practice on one of the smaller, non-attacking dummies first, Grayson rolled up his sleeves while shooting the dummy dark looks. This was a zombie. Uh huh. He was fighting an actual zombie, mkay?
"Reducto!" he cried, flicking his wand sharply to the right and then sharply to the left.
Huh. The spell hit the dummy on the shoulder. WELL then.

Cris was about to leave the Dueling Arena after finishing up with his assigned Reductor Curse practice when he noticed Grayson walking in and proceeding on his own practices. Cris decided to stay back for awhile to watch him practice.
He had seen Grayson in classes and found him to be very adapt at spell casting. Cris wondered whether the Slytherin would agree to practice dueling with him. He decided to wait for him to finish practicing before approaching him.
