Stepping into the arena, you are immediately enveloped with the light shining into the room, either morning or evening depending on what time you decide to enter, yet it's as chilly as a snow covered stone statue. An extra cloak or two would be helpful. If you can tear your gaze away from the intricately designed windows and high ceilings could, you can see to the very right of the room, there is the long platform in which supervised duels will take place while four benches on either side are placed at a safe distance for those who would like to sit and watch. Just ahead of the platform in the right corner, there is a door, though pay no attention to it. It's locked for a reason.
Towards the back wall, there are various types of practice dummies, both stationary and moving, depending on what difficulty the practicer wants. Don't be afraid to go all out with your spells, for these dummies are charmed to repair themselves. There is one practice dummy set aside that will shoot spells back to the practicer, however, permission from a Professor is required to use it. To the left side of the arena are two sets of stands, eight seats high, that look out to the entire arena, comfortable for those who would just like to watch what's going on all around or for general purposes such as studying or relaxing after a long day in the arena.
The middle of the room is quite empty, due to the fact that the defense Professor enjoys presenting lessons in here, but please, despite the brilliant light that shines through the arena due to the large windows, it is not some place to sunbathe or fall asleep. You will be levitated out with a good dose of cold water splashed on you if caught.

Jasmine wasn't sure where to perform her insulation charm next. There were so many places in the castle that could use it. She finally decided on the Dueling Arena. Walking in the door Jasmine went over to the wall nearest the door. She took out her wand and began to think warm thoughts. Aiming her wand toward the wall, Jasmine made the sideways infinity sign. As she moved her wand, she simultaneously said, "Caelum Saepio". She saw a little fog appear, but knew that she could do better.
Hoping that the spell would help the room get warmer and stay that way, Jasmine repeated the spell several more times. Finally she felt that she had done the best that she could so Jasmine left the Dueling Arena. Four down, one to go.

Zander had given himself a peptalk the whole way down here. Sure he wasn't any good at Defense Against the Dark Arts, but he needed some practice if he wanted to defeat Romanos and her Cold One army. This was necessary. He could totally do it. Yeah. He's got this. Pft. Totally. Besides, it was just a friendly duel between two housemates, so it shouldn't be too out of control. Besides, they were in it for the practice and nothing else. Zander actually liked the kid. So it was all friendly. Yeah.
When the Gryffindor arrived to the arena, he noticed he had gotten there first. Okay this was good news. Yeah. This meant that he could take a few breathes practice a little, even. Just calm himself down because man was he sure bugging out about this! He needed to take a chill pill. Reeeelax a little. It'd be alright. Just a friendly little duel to get some practice.
The Cold One army though, that was something to really worry about. The third year walked over to one of the near by dummies and began testing a few things out. Besides, it'd only be a matter of minutes before Ben arrived.

Benny was just a touch nervous.
DADA wasn't exactly a favorite subject of his though he tried his best when he could. Which included the occasional practice or two. This time however he was to be dueling with someone other than Adi. His best friend was someone he knew a little about the way he fought. Zander, while a dorm and housemate, was a little different. It was a new equation to work with, though he supposed that was the point. Trying to get out of one's comfort zone. It wouldn't be that way in real fights. One would have to try and be ready for anything.
And he had agreed to the other boy's idea, so the third year made his way down to the dueling area as ready as he could be. Perhaps even running a little later than planned since Zander had beat him there. Unless the other lion had just been early. "Hey..." Benny greeted and he slowly approached him. The boy seemingly practicing with one of the dummies also in the room.

Zander turned at the sound of the familiar voice. Alright. This meant practice time was over. Which was a nerve wracking thought because it meant that the real thing would start soon. Before turning around to face the boy, Zander let out one huge breath. "Hi," It was just a friendly duel. For practice. And learning. Why was he bugging out so much. Compose yourself, Z."Alright... So let's do this, yeah? He had never really dueled anyone before... So this would be interesting.
"I'm not really sure how this works... Do we count to ten or something?" Maybe the other Gryffindor would know. Most people did end up having duels sometime or another so it was worth a shot. And if not they could just figure it out as they went...

Benny could see his companion was perhaps even more unsure of this activity than he was, making a note of it to guide his behavior. At least it assured him he wasn't going against someone a bit more experienced then he was. If anything they might be on more even keel for the impending duel. "Yeah..." he answered. "No harm on trying."
As the other Gryffindor questioned procedure, the boy thought back into his own memory. "We could do that," he said with a nod, "Gives us a chance to be on an even start. Or you can go first." He was open to whatever was decided. Since it appeared Zander was unfamiliar with dueling, perhaps it was best to give him the option on what was their first move. Then they would go back and forth as they were willing. Benny did slip his wand out from his pocket to prepare either way.

Zander nodded as Ben agreed. At least they were both kind of apprehensive right? That was always good. It'd be way better than having to duel someone like Sophie who seemed to be experienced in all things smart and Ravenclaw. Besides, this would hopefully be a fair battle since they were basically on an even playing field. Except for the fact that this would be Zander's first official duel with an actual person.. As dummies didn't tend to fight back.
Was Ben giving him a choice? Uh. But-but that wouldn't be fair if he went first and since the other Gryffindor was his friend, it just didn't seem right of him. If it had been someone else, then maybe. But either way the Gryffindor wouldn't want to win on account of being told to go first. No. He had to win fair and square... if he won at all. "Okay, I say we count down from ten," he nodded feeling a little calmer as time went on. It was now or never.
"10.....9.........8........7......."

Counting down it is. Benny nodded in agreement at the plan. "Alrighty then," he said aloud with a ginger bow just as Zander started counting down aloud for both their benefits. He joined in the counting, bracing himself into some sort of dueling form to be ready when the countdown finally ended up on the 1.
"...7...6...5...4...3...2...1!"
He raised his wand further and followed through with the wand movement of the spell he had chosen to begin with. A simple one that just seemed right to progress from. "Expeliarmus!!"

This counting down was starting to make him nervous. But then seeing Ben bow, he felt as if he should too. It was only just and proper and the noble thing to do, right? So he bowed down, and it was surprisingly a calming act. By the time he rose back up they were close to 1.
"5.....4...." The Gryffindor held his wand up right in front of his face to prepare. He didn't really know how well Ben was at this dueling thing, but it clearly wasn't the boy's first time, as he had seen when he took a peek at the log before walking in.
"3.........2........." Breathe. Breathe.
".....1!" The Gryffindor held out his wand, noticing that Ben was doing the same. Thinking quickly he shouted a defensive spell incase, "PROTEGO!" A blue shield emerged from the tip of his wand and Zander couldn't help but feel a little prideful at the fact that he had actually gotten it to work. Though he was also curious to see if the other boy's spell would rebound...
But he didn't even wait to see before casting a ""Locomotor Wibbly!" because at the moment that's what came up from the top of his head.

Duel, duel, duel! Leah was looking forward to dueling, it always ended fun, whether or not it was because she had a huge foot from an engorgement charm. She smiled at the thought of that and stepped into the arena, looking around. Well, she should have guessed that Angel, her opponent would not be here yet, either because Leah was early or the girl liked being late.
The badger soon spotted dummies along the wall. Of course they would be there. Leah walked up to them. Ooh, a nice chance to practice. She pursed her lips, thinking of spells to use. Not that there was a variety to choose from. "Incendio." She said randomly, pointing her wand at a stationary dummy and shrieked when it caught fire.
Te fire distinguished on its own a moment later. Merlin.

Angel walked in, just in time to see Leah hitting a dummy with incendio. "I hope that you are not planning on using that spell on me, thank you very much." Angel went over and nudged her friend. "You see I'm too gorgeous for anything bad to happen to my hair or my face." Angel then giggled and rolled her eyes to show her friend that she was just kidding.

Hearing footsteps behind her, Leah turned around, breathing fast. "Professor, I didn't mean to do that, I -" Oh it was Angel. Embarrassed, she quickly stopped herself and said, "You're late, you know that," with a forced frown on her face.
Her face flushed faster but she smiled as she replied, "I sure hope not. That spell just came up to my mind just now." She was now kind of proud that she had managed to do that spell with no problem at all. "Not as gorgeous as a Leah Abbott, but fine. Also, you know I never bother anybody's hair." Remember what she said to Kevin months ago? Anyway, better get dueling.
"Are you ready for the duel? Never mind your face now." Leah said, now grinning. She raised her wand and glanced at the tip of it. "Let's start on the count of three." She got into her ready position and wondered why there were these weird positions for dueling.

Angel looked at Leah crazily...
"Professor?!"
Had Leah just called her Professor?
Did she look like she was one hundred and two?
Professors were old, they were ancient, they must have been around since like dark ages, she was so not a Professor, though she decided to play along. "If I was a Professor, I'd be taking 1,000,000 million points of you for causing the dummy over there stress." Angel stuck her tongue out at her friend.
"I'm ready for the duel." Angel went and got into the ready position and bowed to her friend. "I'll give you a free shot, since you'll need it."

Angel was looking at Leah as if she was CRAZY. Hey she just panicked okay? Thought the girl was a professor ready to take points off her because she set a dummy on fire. She was not surprised that Angel had said that bit about taking points off her. "But you're not a professor, bestie." Leah said in a sing-song voice.
Leah bowed to her opponent too. She smiled. "A free shot for me then." If someone offered her the chance to go first, then she would accept it.
Even if that someone was a firstie.
"Impedimenta!" Leah said out loud, flicking her wand horizontally. Hopefully Angel would either block the jinx or dodge it, she did not want serious injury here.

Angel looked at her best friend. "I'm glad that you agree with that, after all. I am a bit too young." Angel had no idea what to say next because she didn't have to do anything bad.
"Protego!" Angel stared at her best friend. "Are you trying to injury me?" Angel pouted. "But if that is how you want to play, all fair in love and war bestie." Angel giggled to show her friend she was only playing.
"Locomotor Mortis!" Angel shouted as she did the wand movement, would it hit or would her friend dodge it?

Nice shield charm. Leah's Impediment jinx was blocked away. She could not help but feel a bit of regret, she could have done better! But she was impressed with Angel's spell too. "No, I don't want you hurt." She said truthfully. The second year laughed at what the younger girl said.
She was not confident at conjuring shields yet, and maybe it was best to do the first thing that came to mind - jump out of the way. That was what Leah did immediately. The purple beam of light hit the wall behind her instead. She had definitely heard that incantation somewhere.. better read it up when she got to her dorm.
Pointing her wand at Angel, Leah called out, "Flipendo!" with the correct wand movement. A blue beam of light was conjured out, proving that she had done the knockback jinx correctly.

Angel was too busy laughing at seeing her friend perform a little dance and so she didn't see the jinx until it was too laugh.
"ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!" Angel sighed as she fell over, she couldn't believe she had been so stupid. "You were so lucky there." Angel giggled as she got up and made sure her legs weren't hurt. "It was such a lucky shot and if you hadn't been dancing I wouldn't have been distracted.
"Hey bestie watch this." Angel did a little Irish jig and then casted a silence "SCOURGIFY!!" Angel had just cheated a little bit by distracting her friend and she hoped her bestie wouldn't be mad at her for it.

Leah looked up to see Angel yelling as she fell. Merlin she did not mean to cause her to get hurt. She had a soft Hufflepuff heart even when she was dueling. She sighed in relief when the first year stood up, giggling even. "Yeah, I was lucky." She had meant that she was lucky that her best friend was not in serious injury.
The girl watched her best friend, not realizing that she was lowering her wand, as Angel did the Irish jig. She bent over laughing, and did not even see Angel open her mouth as she cast a spell. Soon, soap filled her mouth and she completely bent over, her hands on the ground. Leah raised her wand to her mouth, trying to stop the spell. "Gggrrinirre!" She said, unable to prounounce Finite.
Directing her wand at her opponent instead, Leah said, "Rictusempra!" She drew a narrow arrow pointing to the right. This one was easier to pronounce because there were many 'r's in the incantation. The soap in her mouth was starting to taste weird now.

Angel looked at her bestie. "It seems like your having fun over there bestie." Angel thought about using the finite spell for her friend but decided against it because she wanted to see her friend upside down.
"Protego!!" Angel was glad she was paying attention as she managed to block the spell now, she had to think about how to distracted her friend.
"Bestie, what did Yodi say to Luke before he rode the grand national?" Angel hoped her friend would love the joke. "He said May the Horse be with you." Angel giggled before looking at her bestie.
"Levicorpus!" Angel then to make sure he bestie couldn't defend went. "Levicorpus!!" Angel decided a third one in a row would be perfect. "Levicorpus!" She just hoped her friend wouldn't be mad with her after this duel.

Having fun? Merlin of course she was having fun. Leah swallowed a large amount of soapy bubbles and felt tears welling up in her eyes as she watched Angel block her tickling charm.
She barely heard what her best friend said about Yodi and the horse (what the heck was that anyway?) and did not understand what she was laughing at. Probably at the way Leah was trying to stop the scouring charm on herself. "Gggrrinirre! Gggrrinirre!" She repeated, her wand pointed on herself, as she struggled.
Still, Leah managed to stand up straight. She spat on the ground in front of her but er, she did not mean to mess up the floor. Sorry, Professor Romanos. She saw the spell Angel shot at her just in time to yell, "Protegorr!" Surprisingly, a shield appeared in front of her and blocked the spell. What the thirteen-year-old did not expect was her opponent sending that same spell over and over again.
"Arrrrrrrgggh!" She shrieked, as she felt herself being hoisted into the air by her ankle. She kicked as hard as she could in the air, trying to get down to the ground while soap still filled her mouth. "Gerrmedowrn! Gerrmedowrn!" Leah yelled, feeling blood rushing down to her head.
She wondered if Angel would take her to the hospital wing if she passed out.

Angel was totally in tears of laughter as she watched her friend just floating upside down in the air. "You look amazing there." Angel giggled as she then looked around the room and smiled. "Maybe I should, leave you up there bestie." Angel pretended to leave the room, but stopped.
Angel finished both spells, she didn't want her bestie to get injured. "Hey does that mean I win?" Angel hoped Leah wouldn't be too mad with her for what she had just done.

Laughter. She heard laughter. Angel was laughing at Leah while she was dying, and that would be one thing she would remember even when she was dead. It was getting harder to breathe, and she swallowed another gulp of soap. Upside down, she saw Angel turning to leave the room. Then the girl blacked out.
When she woke up again, Leah was soap-free and on the ground. Yeah on the ground. That reminded her that she just dropped down from the air onto the cold hard ground. She stood up, made sure that she had no broken bones. Nope, none of those but she did have a couple of bad bruises.
Leah looked up at the Gryffindor as she spoke. She smiled as she said, "Well bestie, I don't know who won this duel." Her pretty smile became a glare. "What I do know is, you should care for your best friend even though you are in a duel!" Leah yelled the last part out, feeling tears rushing down her face. Picking up her wand that she had dropped during the struggle earlier, she stormed out of the dueling arena.
But she did stop by the log book to log their duel.

Benny was doing his best to keep a balanced focus on both his own movements and those of Zander to try and feel what to do. But even still, he couldn't dwell on worrying if his fellow lion reacted straightforward enough or even bowed. It was a lesson to be had on ones feet nota step by step on what was to happen or not.
As it turned out, Zander held up to the countdown and the quick action, a shield greeting his disarming spell. He had to be quick to avoid the repercussions, keeping a tight grip on his wand to keep from loosing it. Another spell followed from his dueling opponant and it was Ben's turn to opt for a shield charm. "Protego!" No jelly legs for him...no sir...not if he could seriously help it at any point.
He paused for but a few moments to allow himself to regroup. To allow them both to regroup, before setting up the next round. Benny debated a few options of spells before casting "Rictusempra!" at his opponent.

Man. It looked like Benny was doing some quick thinking of his own too. See, normally the Gryffindor would've given a thumbs up to his housemate, but they were dueling! It was all in competition, right? He couldn't just take a break to smile or give a thumbs up. No. The Gryffindor was too busy debating about what his next move would be before he noticed a spell coming towards him!
"Pro--" before he could get the word out, it was too late. He had fallen to the ground in what appeared to be a fit of laughter. He couldn't but stay on the ground, but he wouldn't give up. Not like this. Not laughing. Holding up his wand in between chuckles he struggled to shout, "Incarcerous!", struggled-- but still managed it.
When would the tickling stop!

Benny had been more successful this time around. Of that he was certain, especially as Zander was broken off mid-defensive spell by the effects of his jinx. His fellow Gryffindor falling to the ground in laughter. The third year did his best not to smirk in response to the scene since he wasn't that cruel. This was a duel and no more, it wasn't like he was trying to harm his house mate or humiliate him.
Yet he couldn't rest on his laurels as another spell came his way from the other boy. it was Zander's struggle to cast while laughing that allowed Ben the reaction time, casting "Protego " to reinforce his previous shield. The action causing the magically created ropes that spread from his fellow lion's wand to bounce back and away from it and him.
"Expeliarmus!" he cast once more as well, figuring it might work this time with his companion otherwise occupied by the rictusempra that still held him in his grasp.

Pft he could totally focus and not laugh. Alright. It was a lot harder than it sounded. Actually, it was WAY harder than it sounded. He couldn't stop rolling around and most definitely could not keep his mouth shut. Out of all the spells, Ben had to go with the one that made him look like an idiot. Man. Why did people even think that dueling was fun? Because it most certainly was not. Especially when you were losing, which at this point he was sure that he was. Man.
At least it couldn't get any worse than this, right?
.... Wrong.
Of course, Ben had gone for a shielding charm, which not only BLOCKED the rope spell, but also made it REBOUND back to the third year who was still currently clutching his stomach on the ground. And now he was rolling around, while still tied up. Yep. This was TOTALLY worse. Now he was tied up and still laughing. There was no way he could even move his arms around to lift his wand. So uh... Game over?
... Of course there was also the next bit. The bit where his wand was magically taken away from him with the use of the very first spell that had been thrown out in this whole debacle. So. Now was it game over? Because he really wanted to stop laughing so hard. "... I uh" STILL LAUGHING IN BETWEEN WORDS "Guess" THIS ISN'T EVEN FUNNY "You win, well--" CAN SOMEONE MAKE IT STOP PLEASE "it-it was fun," It actually wasn't that fun because he was still tied up and still laughing. And he didn't even have his wand anymore. "Now uh..." STOP THE LAUGHING DARN IT. "can you help me?"
