The Hogwarts staff are already seated when you enter the start of term feast. Their traditional place is at a long table on a raised dais at the back of the Great Hall, with the usual Hogwarts crest hanging behind them and looking particularly nice tonight.
Feel free to come up and give your greetings to the School staff after the Headmistress has given her start-of-term speech. Remember your manners, children. Your professors like to have a quiet dinner too.

SPOILER!!: Javy Wavy and Piersy
Oh..Merlin.
He hadn't misheard their conversation at the cafe after all. Just smile and be polite.. Yeah, he'll just do that. "Well, hello Cassie. It's good to see you again." From what he remembered of Cassie she was like an octopus, the harder you resisted her the more she squeezed and clinged.. Just look at what she was doing to Piers for proof. Even he had to accept the fate. Heh. Javy was having a little difficulty resisting the urge to grin at the sight. Maybe he should save the poor old child man. "Aren't you going to hug me too?" Go on Cassie, they were still.. friends. Yeah.
Hmm? Another gift? Javy blinked momentarily taking the parchment, only reading the first line before knowing it was one of her daily horoscopes before pocketing it. "Ah, you remembered. Thanks." He'll just have a deeper look into it when back in his office. They were more likely to relate to your day when read later on. As for things being just like seventh year.. "Let's hope we don't risk drowning again." One year of flooding was enough on the memory, thank you very nice.
Oh, Merlin. Blonde alert. BLONDE ALERT. That woman was literally the most cheerful person Piers had ever met and it hurt his brain. Piers tried his best to ignore the squealing happening at Javy. He sipped his water again. Oh yeah, this was A-MAZING. TOTES INCRED. SUPES AMAZE. Piers looked down the table at Truebridge. He wanted to know if she regretted her decision to hire this lady yet.
Oh, no. Merlin, no, she was talking to HIM now! "Pierson, he corrected with a stiff smile, but she was babbling away over him, so she probably didn't even hear. Oh, Merlin, she was HUGGING HIM! "Oh. Oh wow, this is - this is great. I love hugs." His eyes widened and he awkwardly patted her back. "Oh, good, I get snaps, too. I love snapping." He didn't love snapping.
"You look very... yellow. Very yellow today." There was too much Hufflepuff. It was hurting everything about him.
JAVY. HELP HIM.
Piers got a paper, too. Awesome. "You know, I was just, wondering what my horoscope was for today,"he said, dryly sarcastic. Hopefully dry enough that her bubble brain wouldn't even see past it. Piers didn't read the paper. He just kept it there on the table, words down so he couldn't read it. It was a bunch of bologna, anyway.
Where was the food?
Nice to see her again.. “Oh don’t be silly it’s not nice. It is fabtastic!” The entire thing was soooo amazing. Three classmate working together how great was that? Cassie couldn’t think of anything better at that moment. Or well until two little fluffy heads popped out of her purse. “Oooohhh did the wittle fur babies want to say hello.” She giggled towards Javy. “This is Javy Wavy he likes animals.” She gave Gemini and Aries little pats before looking back to the boys men. “They go every where with me in their little kitty purse.” Great invention if she had ever found one. Having them both dressing with little yellow bows she was thrilled to show them the Great Hall.
Not even paying attention Cassie totally missed Piersy’s correction. “Well of course you do, who doesn’t like hugs. I totes love them.” Hugs always made people happy and so did snaps, which he was saying he loved those as well which only got him more. Was Piersy commenting on her outfit? Twirling so he could see how stunning it was she giggled, “Oh Piersy I’m so glad you like it. I had to have something cheerful and exciting for such an exciting evening. Looking back at Javy she chuckled and hugged him again. “You can have as many hugs as you want.” It was so fun to be with her old classmates. Reunion class of 69!
Did she remember, “Of course I remember? You can never know too much about your paths and signs.” Waving off Piers like he had said something so out there, “Oh wonder no more. I will make sure you have daily ones don’t you worry your silly wittle head.” Her green eyes focused on Javy, "Yes drowning wasn't at all fun, but there were may fun things that term." She giggled more.
SPOILER!!: Botros, Medea, Cutie Auror
Josh was eyeing the YATIs in the large room when he heard someone asking for his attention. He turned towards the direction of the whispering only to see his former Herbology professor. He gave the woman a sincere smile. "It's good to see you again, too, Professor Bentley." he said kindly. "Actually i am really pleased. I never thought i would back at those days but apparently i missed this school." He chuckled and glanced towards where the YATIs were momentarily before returning to the Herbology professor. "Yes." he nodded "I am pretty good. I hope you are doing good as well. And...you still look exactly the same you did to me back at those years."
Kind compliments to a woman he respected.
Unable to help it, the Auror got distracted when he heard some kind of...squealing. He looked up to see a blonde woman being super cheerful and energetic. Well...maybe she could spread that spirit in the school, some of the staff looked very displeased...kind of...maybe. When he realised she was waving towards him, he gave her a smile and waved back a tiny bit.

Seeing yet another man join the table the blonde started wondering if she had gotten the side of the table with all the men. How lucky was she! Though this one was much older, but he still got a frantic wave and big beamy smile. “Hello” She loved meeting new people and all these people were her coworkers. *squeal* Just as she squealed and did some happy snaps she noticed a woman join them. Oh goodie another female on this end and she sat right next to Cassie. This was perfect. “Hello, I’m Cassiopeia” she said very enthusiastically. “I guess we’re neighbors for the feast.” She had a new neighbor a table neighbor. Eeeep more excited snaps.
The blonde perked as she saw the man smile and wave back. So she decided before sitting she’d go find out what he was there for. “Well hello” she giggled a bit, “I know you aren’t a professor and you are at the staff table, so mind introducing yourself. I’m Cassiopeia.” Of course she’d introduce herself. It was easier to be nosy once introductions were through.
SPOILER!!: Airey
And then there was lots of waving going on. OH ENTHUSIASM HE COULD APPRECIATE THAT! The astronomer sat up a bit more in his seat to catch all that was going on and returned the new Divination professors waves with equal vigor. Noticing the eye exchange between the Potions Master and the two new professors - another reminder that Calista was really gone - his thoughts were distracted when the blonde started handing out pieces of parchment and Piers uttered one of the words that was on Airey's list of things he never wanted to hear said in his presence: horoscope.
Snorting loudly as he looked down at the table top and muttered a few incoherent things under his breath, he looked up again when the blonde addressed him. "Airey Flamsteed," he greeted with a tight lipped smile. "If by that you mean I am an individual whose birthday happens to fall between November 22 - December 21 in which the Sun transits that particular constellation in the ecliptic coordinate system known as the zodiac...then yes. I am."
Did he dare ask why it mattered? He did.
"Why do you ask?"
Curiosity was such a curse at times.
She was enjoying the man with the suit. He was happy and excited and his aura around him was just awesome. Cassie could certainly get along with this one easily. “Airey Flamsteed.” she repeated giving him happy snaps. His name was interesting, plus he was a sag and sags were always interesting. Giggling at his explanation she nodded, “Yes.. Yes that’s it, along with a personality of enthusiasm, fashion style, and always seeking truth.” Which his statement proved that to her.
“It always matters.” *dramatic gasp* “Signs are a huge thing to know. They help you follow the right paths and figure out life. Being a Sagittarius is a huge deal. It has formed you and helped you become who you are. Plus knowing your sign and knowing others shows if you are compatible with them. Take us for instance. Our signs are super compatible for friendship. They complement each other.” So wasn’t he just super excited they could be great friends!
Her eyes caught him looking away and she turned seeing Nessa. Oh bestie was here. “Excuse me” She said to the awesome Sagittarius man as her hand went up to frantically wave back. Why were they so far apart? This should be fixed. “Nessa.. Nessa did Ophelia calm down.” Oh bother she was just going to go over there. Getting up she bounced to the other side of the table. The speech hadn’t started yet so this was allowed wasn’t it? “Nesssssa” she made her voice go up a bit at the end while hugging the brunette. “I was hoping you’d get here soon. Isn’t this soooo a-mazing. OHMIGOSH we’re professors.” Eeeep!
Eyes catching Culloden looking at them she giggled. “Hello Cosgrach.” Was she saying that right? She walked over giving him hello hug as well. Everyone should get hugs. She thought for a moment to maybe even go down the line and give out hugs. Plus a new person. YAY! “Hello” She said to the woman sitting next to the potions master.
Noting that others were already in conversation, Seren remained quiet, but contemplative. The summer had passed in quick succession and already the time had come to get back to work... a milestone of a year it would be. A decade of teaching Herbology at the school, among the other roles she cherished so greatly.
This was probably not the night to ask Seren for house leadership advice. Leo made a mental note to stop by her office later in the week with the plant that his mother had sprung on him. He wanted to get rid of it. Catching Seren's gaze he said "Good evening Seren, you look lovely tonight. Do you happen to have room for an extra flesh eating plant in your green houses?"There was no way that Leo was going to keep the flesh eating plant within proximity of his pets. It was dangerous.

Looking past Seren to Orsino he asked curiously. "Did you think your niece would be sorted into your old house? She’ll do great under Cece’s care I'm sure." Not that Leo knew if that made things any better in Orsino’s eyes? But it was worth saying after the big muscle man's outburst over his nieces sorting into the house of the snakes. Feeling his face flush and his ears go warm in unison Leo couldn't help but blush warmly. "Thank you. I'm excited for the new position." He couldn’t help but glance down at the gumdrop again. Hopefully this would be a quiet year.

Not for the first or last time Leo cursed the length of the table. It made it practically impossible to talk to those who sat on the other end like Javy and Piers and Abraham. Waving back Leo called down. "Thank you Piers!" He’d seek out the Charms Professor some time later to drop off the new charm textbooks and other charms books that had ended up in the wrong place of the school.

And anyway, soon there was entertainment at the other end of the table, and Cosgrach turned to Fuller, Javy-diapery and Cassie - grinning as widely as his mouth would allow him while he watched Cassie disturb their personal space and whatnot.
A waving hand that wasn't meant for him but still a waving hand, made Leo acknowledge the fact that Cosgrach was at the table. Glancing over in his mate’s direction he smiled. "Good evening mate. Did you have a good summer?" They needed to catch up over baking cookies in the kitchens this week. Leo knew Cosgrach would be up for it.

Leo watched as Sophia made her way into the Great Hall looking a bit distracted. As she found her seat not too far from he leaned over to give her arm a squeeze. "Sophia, are you all right?” He knew Sophia’s daughter was starting her education at Durmstrang this night so it was natural that Sophia’s mind was elsewhere.

Nessa.
He knew she was coming. He had of course forgotten that she'd be seated next to him at the feast. "Good evening Nessa, nice hat!" He beamed warmly. It reminded him of Calista's turbans. Blocking the thought out he smiled. "I've been lovely. The new shampoo worked wonders. How have you been yourself? Still excited for your new job as History of Magic professor?"

Nope everyone was getting her big blonde smile and frantic hello waves.
Catching the glance of a frantic waving blond Leo returned the wave with a bright big beam. The blond was most probably Nessa's friend who she'd mentioned would be taking up the Divination position.

And wasn't he just as delightful as ever? Such an honourable, courageous, courteous gentleman. Everything a Lion ought to be ... and speaking of, perhaps his presence here might be the kind of motivation some of her Lions needed. Did he do motivational speaking? Hhhmm?
She grinned broadly, delighted to hear he was still fond of the school and was doing well in his chosen profession. "It's always nice coming back, and you're able to see the place from a whole new perspective now," she mused brightly. It had been one of the first things she noticed when she returned, how different it was from being a student to being alumni.
"I'm doing quite well, thank you," and that was indeed a compliment she didn't deserve - convinced of the fact that she had in fact aged since then, even if she had aged well. "It's a shame you missed the aging epidemic, it was definitely a sight to see, an experience if nothing else."
In the same instance that he turned away, so had she.
What was with the LOUD NOISES?.......
...
Sweet juice bouncing blueberries... .... the puff of pink and blonde down there was .... loud.
Hhhmm. Looking forward and out at the sea of students again, she distracted herself by sipping her drink.

But she had a bit of an emergency with Ophelia before they had to leave and she needed to get that bird settled down before she would feel alright with leaving her for the feast. And, since she knew she'd be a smidge late, she sent Cassie off ahead of her. Linked arms could wait for another time!
Adjusting her fancy purple hat and checking the mirror one last time, Nessa headed inside making a beeline for that staff table. She knew exactly where she was supposed to sit, having studied the seating chart until she had it memorized so she would have a flawless walking in and sitting down performance. The brunette walked around the far end of the table closest to where she would be sitting -- oooh, look! There was Cosgrach! "Hiiii Cosgrach!" The Potions Master got a beaming smile with her exclamation as she walked past. "I hope you had a fantastic rest of summer!" Her seat was close to his, but it was too bad it wasn't right next to it -- he was so nice and sweet!
And there was -- gosh, what was his name again? She remembered he was the librarian at any rate and she took a seat right next to his. "Hello! How have you been?" Nessa gave the librarian a big, friendly smile. Sure, she was sort of alluding to whether or not he got his rash to clear up, but she knew that was a sensitive issue and wouldn't ask out loud. He simply got a knowing wink. Nessa glanced to her right where there were so many more people seated. The beautiful woman next to her as well as the enormous man just further down got "Hiii"'s and waves and great big smiles. Oh and.. "Hello Headmistress!" Hehe, it was so weird calling her that and she wasn't sure she'd ever feel comfortable calling her Annie like Cosgrach did.
There were a few people down that way that she didn't really know - or did she? - but they got happy waves and smiles too. "Cassie! Cassie, hi!!" Her blonde BFF got frantic waves and the biggest grin of all. Sure, she had just seen her a half hour ago, but this was all just too exciting! And look who was sitting so close to her -- the one Cassie had pointed out in the yearbook the other day. The one who totes had a crush on Cassie in her 7th year... What was his name again? One of those fun foreign names where letters took on a different sound than it did in English... it would come to her eventually. At any rate, he got a smile and wave as well as a wink for Cassie. She'd give her a nudge too if only she was sitting closer.
Another familiar person down that end got another of her happy waves. "Hi Piers!" She vaguely wondered if his friend liked the jewelry he had gotten for him. The Charms professor was so nice too and she smiled over at him and Cassie as they conversed. She almost wished she could sit over there too, but she had an awesome seat right here with fascinating people as well.
It seemed as though the blonde at the other end wasn't the only bubbly new staff member, and what's more the two seemed to be rather close. Interesting that was. "Good evening," Seren greeted the new History of Magic professor, smiling broadly as she usually did. Such a shame they hadn't had much consistency by way of that subject, in her time at least, Dash had been the one to occupy that seat the longest. Or was it Vinteren? Who knew.. the man was around enough.

With all the ruckus and loud sounds, Leo's familiarity and calm manner was appreciated company. Especially considering what he seemed to be offering her. "Good evening, Leo," she greeted warmly, taking her napkin from the table and draping it over her legs, a subtle hint to Annie - if she was looking - that food would be appreciated.
His compliment was not missed on purpose, but he had captivated her with talks of flesh eaters, this was perhaps the greatest compliment of all. "I always have room for flesh eaters," she replied with a raised brow. He did now it was her specialty, no? "What have you got?"

Was this where he was supposed to do some sort of bromance gesture? A hug? Fist bump? High five? He was just going to stand there and nod instead. Nod and smile. Salute. Smile. Yep.
Did Flambo truly need to rub it in like that! Sure he broke his jaw, but at least the man heald his own in the Tea Cups. He even let him do the Spinning at one point because he feared if he did then Little Agatha would hurl all over his suit. "It makes a nice souvenir. I still have the silly Yello Dog hat...the one named after the planet" What was with that awkward pause? Had they not enjoyed the Trip. Without warning the Groundskeeper gave the Blonde Man a Good Ol Friendly Bro Slap on the Back.

"Well according to the Hat her being a Badger wasn't even up for debate." The Groundskeeper frowned, at the mention of her being in the Care of The Healer. He still felt ill about her no pun intended since last term, and her harsh words on him using Potions to gain his physique. "I'm sure she'll be happy with the Snakes. This lot all seem like good kids, I'll give them that. She'll certainly give the Slytherin House a refreshing look"
How FUNNY! The Curly Librarian was blushing at his compliment! Maybe his hairs were curling even further on end too? "You deserve it." The Groundskeeper added with a smile.

Sophia eyed up the woman (Cassie) from head to toe with a disapproving frown on her face. This behavior..this giddy headed teenage behaviour was surely unacceptable. She turned her head to look at Annie. Wha? She was fond of her headmistress but she certainly made questionable choices. Perhaps she should respond to the woman however.
"Hello..."
Sophia looked away from the woman to Leo who had just given her arm a squeeze. Was she alright? Of course she was. She just wished she could have gone to school with Ariana on her first day. Yes, right up into the halls of Durmstrang, just like she had done when Tyler started.
"Of course I'm fine. Your new haircut suits you by the way." She gave him a smile and watched the aurors situate themselves about the hall. Never a dull normal moment at this place, was there?
Ha! Kirby's smile was as fake as they came. Of course she knew why he had wanted his niece to be sorted into HufflePuff, but that house would never let her reach her full potential. She needed to be with those of like mind and cunning and drive. Yes Slytherin house was most certainly the best choice.

But seriously, who had put the sulfur under the Charms professor's nose? The man was giving the astronomer looks. Unpleasant ones. Did he want some kale? It was well into the evening now and everyone's stomachs were grumbling, so it was no wonder that Piers was a bit grumpy. "I am sure if you ask Javy for some he will feed you," he said, pointing to the brown paper bag. "Assuming you and Lala have the same taste that is."
Heh. He amused himself sometimes.
Piers snorted when Javy got up to tie the bow in his hair. Funny how last term, when Javy put a flower in Piers' hair, he couldn't stand it. And now look at him. Wearing a bow in his hair like it was just meant to be there. Piers sipped his water casually while Javy finished securing the bow in his hair. "Why, thank you." Apparently he had gotten tired of arguing with Javy's fashion choices. He was just rolling with it now.
"I have to agree," he said with a nod. Although he liked summer, he also liked to teach. Even if teenagers were incredibly strange.
His attention turned to Flamsteed when he corrected his choice of words. Oh, wow, his hat was tilited, not crooked. "My bad," he said dryly, obviously not caring about the technical position of his hat. Oh, and then he had to go all universe laws on him. "Don't go all astronomy brain on me, Airey. I will probably ignore you." Just so he was aware. He didn't care about the universe tilts, buddy.
Piers grabbed his water goblet again, and just as he started to take a sip, heard Airey say that he was sure Javy would be happy to feed him if he asked. Piers lurched forward slightly as he choked on his water, even managing to spit some out onto the table. He didn't dare make eye contact with him because if he did, he WOULD blow that top hat off his head ALONG with his HAIR. Calmly, Piers pursed his lips and got out his wand to clean up the water on the table. And then he snuck his wand under the table and casually reached under Javy's chair and pointed his wand at Airey's feet. First, he tied his shoelaces together. And THEN, he muttered a little charm to completely disintegrate the legs of Airey's chair.
Have fun sitting on the floor, Flamsteed.

After tucking his wand away, Piers nonchalantly turned his head the other way to pay attention to the other side of the table. Piers watched as the woman he bumped into in Diagon Alley came up to the staff table. He gave her smile and a small wave. "Welcome back to Hogwarts," he said to Nessa as she took her seat on the other side of the table. He'd have to find her later and give her a proper hello, but this table was just too damn long.

The overly cheerful and loud blonde professor woman oddly reminded Josh of someone yet he was not sure who. Anyway, staring too much was rude so the auror looked away and when he did so, his dark brown eyes spotted a middle-aged looking professor man looking at him.
The look felt like the professor didn't like his presence there. Josh had no idea why and he was not willing to know. He was on duty here. So he briefly looked back at the man and looked away.

Alas.

Looking away from the man who seemed to be displeased with his existence, this time, the auror's gaze landed on the blonde man in suit. Hopefully, he didn't look like he had any negative feelings with his presence. Quite the opposite, it seemed he was giving him a small greeting nod or something like that. Josh kindly nodded his greeting back at him. Some of the staff not hating him could help with his duty here.

Back to watching over everything yet it didn't took much time before he sensed someone approaching. His, kind of overly vigilant to the point of tiny bit paranoia, auror senses made Josh instantly turn to the direction of the movement and...well...the cheerful blonde professor in a pink dress was coming towards him.
When his met her gaze, Josh gave her his kind smile. "Hello." he said respectfully. She was a professor at Hogwarts after all. The auror's smile widened a tiny bit as he listened to the woman's words. Ah, it seemed she was curious about his presence...and demanding an introduction.
That was no problem. But was Cassiopeia her first name or last? Sounded like a first name so this kind of confused him about how to refer to her. Wouldn't she consider it rude to call a professor with her first name while he didn't know her at all? Eh, probably not since she was not bothered with introducing herself to him with that name.
"Joshua Carter" he provided her with both his names so she would call him with whichever she wanted should she ever need to call him. "No, i am not a professor." he confirmed her words. "Just an auror and one of the officers sent by the Magical Law Enforcement department for security reasons."

Professor Bentley. The more he looked at him, the better he started to realise that he really had missed being a student at this school. Even though Herbology was not among his favourite classes, he had always liked the teacher. During the time Professor Bunbury, now Truebridge, was teaching the subject, he had made his idea about it quite clear. Considering that, at least he was now grateful that that his obnoxious younger self hadn't done or said anything rude to Bentley...or he just couldn't recall it. Let's hope it was not the latter.
Her words made him get a warm and sincere smile. She was totally right. "Yes, it feels much different. Feels pleasant yet...i don't know how to describe it but you probably already know." She had been a Hogwarts student, as well, anyway. Right?
She was doing well. That was good to know. She looked all good. Yes, maybe a bit, a tiny bit, older but good. It didn't look like or mean to him that she lost any of her pretty features he could remember she had. And the ageing epidemic. Yeah, he surely knew of that. "I am not sure whether i would be of any use to anyone if i became an old man." he commented and chuckled a bit. A large portion of his advantages as a combatant was his strength and stamina, after all. He was a very physical being.

That man. She should have expanded the table even further so that he was at, say, the opposite end of it. Yes. He should switch seats with Cosgrach. That would be an improvement.

The current Gryffindors looked as energetic and lively as his friends were back at his time.
Despite the feelings being back in Hogwarts making him smile, he was very well aware of the fact that he absolutely didn't like the reason he was in the school and everytime he thought of it, it angered and annoyed him even more. Threatening the students and staff. The Auror wished he knew who was that lunatic. At least he, the adult Josh Carter, standing beside the Staff Table with his big and brawny figure and watching around with attentive dark brown eyes, was not going to let any trouble through them, staff and students alike.
As for staff....most of them he didn't know and he mostly avoided looking at them directly for reasons. He was there on duty, not to curiously find out who was who. Though, he gave a kind smile and a nod of greeting to those he knew; Headmistress Truebridge and Professor Bentley.
Wand out yet folding his muscular arms, the Auror raised his eyebrows when his eyes spotted a paper airplane flying about. He couldn't help but grin when he realised it was coming from his former house table. His grin widened when he was the airplane attempting to land on the head of one of the staff; this talkative man with a suit.
Well well, at least the security was timely. "Josssssssssh," the redhead finally came to as the Sorting ended, "would you like to join us tonight at the table? I realize you're on duty, but.... we do have an empty seat here."
She gestured to where the flying official had previously sat. Airey went stumbling forward a few steps from the impact and huffed and puffed to catch his breath. Sweet solstice he had just had the wind knocked out of him.

Oh Merlin...this was a new thing...this...snapping thing. Airey had to admit he rather liked it and WOULD have given it a go himself had his mind not been entirely wrapped around by the fact that the woman was a practitioner of astrology. Astrology. In these modern times. A so-called science that has yet to contribute to a new scientific discovery. Sweet solstice Star Trek had contributed more to the modern world than it had!
Her compliments washed over him and then dripped onto the floor forming a theoretical puddle on the ground.
ASTROLOGY.
Always? Oh no, he was pretty sure the woman had just mispronounced 'never' just now. He could feel a vein pulsing in his head as she went on to explain how his sign had shaped him to be who he was. No. Thank you very much. HE had done that shaping. Not a constellation in the sky whose stars had likely given him the atoms that created the building blocks for his life. But no, no constellation had guided him from point A to point B to point C in his life.
And THERE. More proof that astrology was a load of rubbish. Compatible signs. Sweet solstice. His curiosity and skepticism was almost enough to make him ask what astrology's logic had to say about Sagittarius and Scorpio, but he instead bit his tongue as she turned her attention to her friend at the other end of the table.
Yes, you were excused. Merlin help him.

From what he could gather based on what little he could hear from Seren and the young Auror's conversation was that he was a former Gryffindor - which was STELLAR! Airey would have to somehow catch up with the bloke later. Always eager and willing to rub elbows with alum after all.
But then he heard the Headmistress offer for him to sit next to her, and he suddenly (and selfishly) regretted having offered the empty Arithmancy seat beside him to Old Man River. NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOO LET THE AUROR SIT HEEEEEEEEEEEERE!

And speaking of sitting.
Airey contently rocked back and forth after briefly hinting to the importance of tilt on the universe to the Charms professor. Really, did he KNOW just HOW important it was? DID HE!? Judging from his reaction and lack of desire to hear about the noble science that was Astronomy....the astronut doubted it. Which was a real pity. Bloody fascinating every little bit of it, if he said so himself.
"Your loss," he shrugged, but still with a huge toothy smile on his face as he did so.
Completely unaware that his shoelaces had been tied up, Airey began to wiggle uncomfortably in his seat. Curse all those cups of coffee he had had earlier...he definitely was in need of a trip to the loo...and since the Headmistress wasn't making any signs that she was going to give her speech he would just go do that no-------
"WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAH!"
*CRASH*
*THUUUUUUUUD*
Airey's chin hit the table top as his seat suddenly dropped to the floor, the force of the impact changing his momentum from purely a downwards motion to one where he was leaning backwards enough to flip his chair over so it landed with his back to the floor and his legs facing the ceiling - although still in Indian position. Reaching up to rub his red chin, the astronomer maaaaaay have whimpered like a kicked cruppy for a moment before unceremoniously rolling to his right out of his seat and onto his stomach where he tried to stand...only his tied shoelaces prevented such was happening and he instead face planted into the wall behind him after tripping over his own feet.
Well played, Piers, WELL played. It was SO on though. SO SO SOOOOOOOO ON. Consider this challenge accepted.
Using his unusually large forehead to lean against the wall, Airey removed his wand and gave it a flick to untie his shoe laces. Well, after that surprise now he REALLY needed to use the loo.
And check on his appearance.
"If you will excuse me for just a moment," he muttered, clearly his through and trying to act natural as he waddled his way down the steps to the dais like a duck. He hadn't landed in the most, er, favorable of positions when his seat had hit the floor. "I'll be right back. Just need to use the loo!"

Was he hearing a [s]Professor Bunbury[/b] Headmistress Truebridge calling his name? Yup. He smiled at hearing her calling his name again because...apparently...he had missed that. He turned at the woman with his small smile and in a moment was really "tempted" by her offer.
Sitting at the staff table with professors like a professor.
Wow. Surely, when he had been a Gryffindor boy, he sometimes wondered what it was like to be sitting at the staff table but he never really thought experiencing that and finding out would be possible for him for his entire life. Now there the headmistress herself was inviting him. He was torn between being, kind and pleased, accepting it and keeping his spot to keep watching everyone being on his duty.
Yet, who was he to return an invitation from Mistress Truebridge? No one would think he was not doing his job properly just because he sat down once and joined a feast? Plus it was not likely that a mass murderer or a bloodthirsty dark creature or the no-Quidditch man or else would break in during the feast and threaten everyone. One night of a feast wouldn't hurt. Then he would keep guarding everyone day and night.
"I would be very pleased, Headmistress, thank you." the auror said finally deciding he would join the feast. Evelyn was never going to believe that got to sat at the staff table. Holstering his wand, the young man went to the seat the headmistress had indicated. The one that was next to her and...the overly cheerful blonde woman in pink dress.
Just when he attempted to sit down...something happened.
He was the blond man in suit fall down with his chair and jumped on his feet. What was that now? He suspiciously eyed the people around. Eh...it was probably a student, a pranker who was apparently so daring that it could make the former Gryffindor, the king of lions, feel not so bestowed with the said characteristic.
He thought of going over to help the man yet he already helped himself up and, apparently, had to leave so Josh sat down and looked around.
It felt really different to be sitting at the staff table. With a smile, he watched the Gryffindor table. He had things to ask to the headmistress however he didn't want to disturb her now if she was getting ready to give her speech.

SPOILER!!: Leo and Bellaire
Catching the glance of a frantic waving blond Leo returned the wave with a bright big beam. The blond was most probably Nessa's friend who she'd mentioned would be taking up the Divination position.
"Hello..."
Oh look the man she didn’t know or wasn’t at her end of the table was waving. Since she was over chatting with Nessa she figured she could say something, “Hello.. hello how are you. It’s so fabstatic to be here.” She snapped happily.
And the other woman was speaking as well, but she turned her head and Cassie turned as well. “OHMIGOSH the sorting hat. I loved that thing. It was so great. Didn’t have to take very long before it said Hufflepuff.” She beamed at the transfiguration professor. “I’m Cassiopeia by the way.”
SPOILER!!: Piers and Airey
Merlin, she was so..... cheerful. Piers didn't even know what to say. Besides, "Pierson. It's Pierson." He would just keep correcting her until she got it right. And he would let Javy have all the happy, bubbly hugs from her.
Again not really paying attention Cassie didn’t hear him correct her, but she did take his arm a moment later, “Peirsy what have you been up too since graduation. I mean not teaching of course I know that you are here.” She giggled at this, “but other things, life?”
He was giving her looks, odd looks, but she was thinking they were friendly looks. Yep he was so nice now wasn’t he? Giving him more snaps, because he was going to be a good friend. It was in the signs she giggled before turning her head.
SPOILER!!: Bunz and Rawr the Auror

"We will do our best to watch over everyone and everything."
Well hello Josh Carter, Cassie smiled at the man. She could talk to the Auror there was nothing wrong with that. “Well I knew you couldn’t be a professor, but Auror goodness I feel safer already.” She wasn’t really sure what she was needing to feel safe from, but hey if Mr. Carter was there thinks had to be safer. Her green eyes moving to the Headmistress as she talked with Josh the blonde couldn’t help but give happy snaps, “That’s a great idea.. EEEEP! Josh you can sit right here. You can still do your duty it’s right in front, but join us.” Yes awesome idea Headmistress.
Professor Pink | Mrs. Bruce Wayne | I'm on a Goat | Glitterpuff | Dumbledore's Defense Squad | BHB
Yes, awesome idea, Headmistress. There was now a human buffer between her and the pink thing. Annie had never thought that it would be possible to have too much pink in a person... too much bubbly, yes, but too much of her favorite color?! Why had she hired Cassiopeia again??
She sighed and slipped out of her seat to deliver the speech. "Thank you for joining us, Josh," she said simply and moved around to the little podium, casting Sonorous on herself as she went.
Speech time.
"Welcome back, everyone, welcome back." Anastasia waited for the crowd to settle down and listen. "Listen. We start this year on a somewhat somber note. Some of you," she LOOKED at CERTAIN TABLES, "may have heard that we are not having Quidditch this year. Now, before you start an uproar," she held up one hand, "it's for a reason. We had a deliberate threat made against the school's athletes and had to shut it down as a result - at least until we can investigate the source of the threat." Besides that, Tyner had gone on sabbatical, and no quidditch official in his or her right mind was going to try to take on her job.
She flipped her hair over her shoulder and cast a look back toward the staff table. "You'll notice some new faces at the table, not just of new professors, but also of new security that will be present around the school. Again, these measures are for your protection. You cannot learn, you cannot play, you cannot live if your security is at stake. So bear with us as we try to get through this threat."
There. That being said... "Congratulations to our new Sortees, our new staffers, Ms. Morgan and Ms. Glendower, our new Head Boy and Girl, and our new Ravenclaw Head of House." That about covered everyone, so Bunz brought her hands together in a light clap. "Now that the notices are given out, take care and enjoy the feast." With those closing words, the elf-made delicious meal appeared on all the tables, and Bunz happily (though she wasn't actually happy) returned to her seat.
Dinnertime!

Could this blasted feast be over with already?
Cece had been sitting there wishing she was back at her new home in Italy with Waylon minding her own business and watching out over her snakes when her ears were assaulted by that crazy neighbor of hers yelling down the table.
Looking down the table she GLARED at the crazy blonde who was doing all that yelling. Seriously woman. Keep your conversation to your own end of the table.
It was because of crazies like her that Cece chose to buy a house in another country.
Now. Where was that speech?
Oh, there it was. About time too.
Cece half listened to Bunz as she continued to glare at her colleagues at the other end of the table. Her glare did soften just a little though when she heard NO QUIDDITCH.
FINALLY!
The blasted sport that she hated was no more. Which meant no more healing those sports related injuries that could have been prevented if the sport didn't exist.
And to think. All it took was one little letter threatening those that had anything to do with the sport.
His compliment was not missed on purpose, but he had captivated her with talks of flesh eaters, this was perhaps the greatest compliment of all. "I always have room for flesh eaters," she replied with a raised brow. He did now it was her specialty, no? "What have you got?"
Leo kept an eye on the sorting and the possible commotion down by the Ravenclaw Table. It seemed that Mr Branxton no doubt had shared the no quidditch news with the other quidditch players after Annie broke the news to him on the train. Leo wondered idly if some of the quidditch lovers were going to come knocking on his door by the end of the feast.
Hearing Seren’s voice Leo shook off his thoughts and turned to the blond plant expert and got a bit of a wild eyed look. "I don't know what this particular species of flesh eater is called all I know is that its big, purple-reddish in color, has razor sharp teeth and have casted long looks if a plant can do that after my kneazle." He paused to take a slow breath. "My mother gave it to me as a present for getting promoted to Ravenclaw Head of House. I don’t think she realized exactly what it was. So can you pretty please take it off my hands?" Leo practically begged. If his kneazle wasn’t safe then his books wouldn’t be either.

How FUNNY! The Curly Librarian was blushing at his compliment! Maybe his hairs were curling even further on end too? "You deserve it." The Groundskeeper added with a smile.
"The Sorting Hat knows what its doing. I doubt it has ever been wrong." Leo pointed out. Not certain if saying that was helpful to Orsinso's piece of mind though. But it was something. "I'm sure she will be happy. If she isn't I'm sure she'll let you know."
"I-thank you." Was the best Leo could manage as a reaction to all of Orsino's compliments. "How are your bees? Did they survive the summer vacation?" This was a much safer, better subject.

"If you're not fine, you know where to find me if you need someone to talk to." Yes because they were best friends and they helped each other out.

Then Nessa's friend happend.
Smitten by her happy tone he beamed brightly. "Hello, I'm quite lovely thank you. How are you? I take it your Nessa's friend?" Seeing as she had been sitting in Calista's vacant seat for most of the evening so far.
Just how sweet could Nessa be?
"Thank you, Nessa, I hope you've had too," he said as his face was bright with excitement and he grinned from ear to ear. Really. This term was going to be great, he could feel it.

Cosgrach grinned at his mate back. It also hit him that moment that he hadn't congratulated the man for being the head of house, but he didn't feel any shame, mainly because he was a Slytherin and hoped Leo would understand that he had been busy.
"Hey Leo!" he exclaimed. Since Hadley wasn't there, it was much easier to converse with him. "It was a blast, how about -" But Annie decided to deliver her speech at that moment, so he indicated her with his head and started to listen.
...
THAT issue that Victoria'd mentioned... He still didn't know WHO DARED DO THAT -!
Cosgrach couldn't breathe for a moment in fury again, only, this time his fury was even worse, because he saw the disappointment in the kids' faces. He took a deep breath, clenched his teeth and tried not to think of poisoning whoever dared threaten the students and, well, everyone.
Though, this also explained the strangers (and how Victoria'd mentioned MLE might interfere too) and he realised he owed an apology to one of them. He also wanted to ask questions to Annie, but those could wait for a little longer. Instead, he got up to speak to...

He cleared his throat for the man to notice him, and smiled cordially.
"I'm sorry if I looked hostile back then," he said, "I didn't mean to. Cosgrach Culloden, potions master." He held out a hand to shake as a sign of peace, yeah? "Thank you for protecting the kids. I hope you will find whoever did it."

It did feel different, and she did know what he meant even if there weren't words to describe it. "Absolutely," she agreed, nodding as such. It wasn't a sensation that could be easily described, but if anything, it might have been like coming home after a long holiday, only ... it wasn't.
She still hadn't fully recovered from the aging epidemic, mentally she was still distraught from time to time, but each day was an optimistic one. "After going through that, if there's any advice I could give to you, it's this," she started, suddenly turning serious in light of the casual and cheerful chat they'd just had. "Don't ever take your body for granted, treat it well.. and don't hold back. Do things with your life while you can." The last thing she wanted to do these days was lay in bed or turn in early and sleep in late. No more naps, she just wanted to keep working. But managed to maintain a balance with meditation, yoga and healthy eating. All organic!

Dinnertime!

She'd been about to reply to Leo's botanic woes when she noticed Annie was about to make her speech. She nod her head to indicate as such, and sat comfortably in her seat, her fingers laced together and resting on her lap. Another year was about to begin.
Of course she was eager to get to the food, and being familiar with the staffing for the year in addition to the quidditch conundrum, Seren was less inclined to listen properly. She applauded at the conclusion of the speech, realising this was the case when food materialised before her. She could only afford herself a quick feed before she'd take her leave... there was other business that needed attending to.
Loading up her plate, she returned her attention to Leo, there was still the plant issue. "It won't be a problem at all, I'd be delighted to take it off your hands." Considering he hadn't been overly helpful with the description, and considering people that were not inclined to like flesh eaters often exaggerated the facts. For now she'd wait until she could see it for herself, though she was willing hedge a small bet on it being a chokeberry bush.. they were rather fond of kneazles. "Would you like to drop it off or shall I come for it?" she asked, completely at ease with whichever suited him best. Venturing into the castle wasn't something she did often, the opportunity might be nice.
Nessa's happy grin brightened even more so as she caught Cassie's attention away from all the people she was happily conversing with. "Oh yes, she's fine.." the brunette called down towards the other end of the table as she dramatically waved both of her hands dismissively. Eww, why did they have to sit so far apart? Aww, Cassie had the same idea because she was coming over.. yay! She beamed at her as she made her way over. "She had a few feathers stuck in her bejeweled perch, but once I got them straightened out she was fine! Well, that and a few treats." Nessa laughed a bit then returned Cassie's hug as she got halfway out of her seat, then sat back down. "I know! It's so excitinnnggg!" She sang the word a bit at the end. As her blonde BFF went to say hello to Cosgrach, Nessa turned at looked out at all the children seated at the tables. It was going to be SO fun to teach them!

Blocking the thought out he smiled. "I've been lovely. The new shampoo worked wonders. How have you been yourself? Still excited for your new job as History of Magic professor?"
Catching the glance of a frantic waving blond Leo returned the wave with a bright big beam. The blond was most probably Nessa's friend who she'd mentioned would be taking up the Divination position.
Nessa beamed back at the Librarian. How nice he was! "Why thank you!" She adjusted her hat just slightly at the mention, so pleased that he liked it. Oh good, it seemed like everything had worked out well for Mr. Librarian since she had seen him last and he seemed so much more pleasant for it. Not that she blamed him, such a personal and potentially embarrassing subject! Anyone would be touchy about it. "Glad to hear it. Oh I've been fantastic, thanks for asking! My show just finishing up, just in time for me start classes... oh yes, so excited!" She couldn't wait to get started and clapped a little at the thought. Term was finally starting!

Such a shame they hadn't had much consistency by way of that subject, in her time at least, Dash had been the one to occupy that seat the longest. Or was it Vinteren? Who knew.. the man was around enough.
"It is a good evening, isn't it?" Nessa smiled even brighter than the lovely woman on her right. Fantastic, really.. the start of a new adventure. "You teach Herbology, right?" She was certain of that, though the name escaped her at the moment as things like that happened at times for her. "I hope you won't mind a visit, I do love flowers." And not just floral prints to wear. She had ideas in mind, mhmm.

"Welcome back to Hogwarts," he said to Nessa as she took her seat on the other side of the table. He'd have to find her later and give her a proper hello, but this table was just too damn long.
Even though Nessa was excited, she didn't want to shout too far down the table. There were too many people in between her and Piers that it might be thought of as a tad rude to shout an entire conversation, so she settle for a big grin and a "Thanks!" And another wave. Hehe, he was so adorbs! She would have to make a point to talk to him later.. maybe after the speech.

And speaking of speech.. it looked like it was about to begin! Nessa sat up a little straighter as the Headmistress prepared herself to speak and she looked on, listening intently.
*GASP*
Who on earth would dare to threaten these precious children? Nessa placed her hand over her chest, unable to believe such atrocity. There had to be some sort of mistake. She glanced around for Cassie to give her a can you believe this? kind of look, when she heard her name being spoken by the Headmistress. Hehehe, that was her! Professor Glendower! She faced the tables of children and gave them two-handed waves and a big smile, so excited to be here! Hello everyone!
Oooh, and food now!

It was because of crazies like her that Cece chose to buy a house in another country.
Nessa tucked into her delicious plate of food. Oh she hadn't even realized how hungry she had been due to all the excitement. While she was eating, she glanced around the table, still trying to figure out why one woman looked SO familiar. OH! Oh, oh.. she forgot her neighbor was going to be here too! That's right! "Hey Neighbor!" she exclaimed just past the Herbology professor to the Healer. "It's me, Nessa!" Oh she looked like she wasn't having much of a good time, maybe she just needed to see a friendly face, and she beamed at the other woman before glancing to Cassie. 'LOOK!' she mouthed with a big grin to her friend as did a couple points towards the other woman. How fun that she worked here too!

Oh she just could not resist Cosgrach's charming smiles! And she smiled sweetly in return. "I have," Nessa replied. "I've had a wonderful summer. I'm so pleased with how my show turned out and we finished just in time for term to start." It really was a success as far as the brunette was concerned and she did wonder if the Potions Master had been in the audience at all after she had spoke of it during their first meeting. She didn't see him, but she told herself she just might not have because of the footlights blinding her view of the audience. "I am so looking forward to this term.." She was sure it was going to be amazing.
