Default Research Assistance Meeting

Just off to the left of the Restricted Section, tables and chairs have been arranged to create a large square shaped study area. Various reading materials have been placed on the tables ranging from faded newspapers, to thick history books, to scrolls, and the most peculiar of all in the center of the table; a codex taken from deep within the Restricted Section.

Professor Flamsteed is seen standing by one of the windows with his right shoulder leaning against the cold wall of the library. His expression seems neutral at first, but were one to get close enough they would see his jaw was clenched and perhaps even hear the faint sound of his back teeth grinding against one another.

If you've stumbled upon this area on purpose, hoping to assist with the extra credit research mentioned in the lastest Astronomy lesson, then you are in the right place. If you happened here by accident, stick around anyway. Your assistance will be needed.

Still not smiling. Sorry Miss Wisteria. But he had finally returned to the tables and was currently leaning against them instead of the wall by the window.

He then turned his attention towards all those who had gathered thus far. "Thank you everyone for coming today," he announced, rapping his knuckles on the table twice to hopefully get everyone's attention. "You make work alone or with a partner or small group while you look through the various materials we have on the table. Now, the majority of these have some reference to archaeoastronomy. Some of you may recall I mentioned the topic briefly in my first lesson of the term. Now, with archaeoastronomy you are very likely to come across passages with runic scripture and this is why I've asked Professor Botros to assist us today." He paused for a moment to drum his hands on the table a few times before continuing. "Look for any connections to the weather, specifically winter weather. Even large winter storms in so-called muggle history could give us some insight into what is going on here if we cross reference it with dates in the wizarding encyclopedia's and the like." Really...just look for ANYTHING! "Professor Botros and myself are here for any assistance you may need. So go ahead and get started."
OOC: go ahead and search the web and/or SS archives for anything you think may be applicable :3

She understood the lack of smiles, really. No need to worry about that, Flamsteed. Lotus still nodded and smiled at him. But the smile quickly vanished at the realization of something he had said when he addressed them all.

Wow. They actually have NO IDEA what this is all about, DO THEY?! The time to panic is now.

Would it have killed her to be prepared for once?? If she never saw snow again it would be soon. Could they opt to skip the coming winter later in the year? This one kinda...overstayed it's welcome. It was only fair.

"I can't forget the way the wind ate the balloons Lottie. You saw it. Reckon the same might happen to us if we walk outside?" That was what got her. The futility in trying to leave with a storm like that outside. They were legit TRAPPED. Merlin she hated that word and the idea behind it.

The nod told her the Professor's mood wasn't any better and she couldn't blame him. When was the last time any of them saw the sun? It seemed like forever ago. Winters were never meant to last this long. She needed out of this place and away from half these people.

Her eyes scanned the table at all the books and parchments and scrolls and whatnot they'd be going through. Reminded her of why she didnt come to the library often...but what else was there to do?

"I think we can start with these books right here." She said, finalling getting off her bestie's shoulder. "Work our way around or something." Because they were working together, yes? Yes. Of course.

"Cass, wanna come search with us?" That wasn't actually asking. That was more 'get your butt over here, we have to find a way to end this winter' but Cassia would understand this.

Or not, no panicking. But that's what his words meant. That they basically had no clue and that's why they had taken to the students to help them search for something, ANYTHING. That was dangerous, man. At least she knew where she stood. And to answer her bestie's question in the most honest manner, "Yes, we'd die in seconds." SO DON'T GO OUT, don't even stick your head outside any windows, either.

Perhaps she should show Lex that one movie about something similar to this situation when they're finally out of Hogwarts. They will be out of Hogwarts, she'll make sure of that. If people could escape Azkaban, then they can certainly escape Hogwarts.

Archaeoastronomy. Right.

Books? Hmmm, she'd take anything, truth be told. "I'll take some papers, and a few books," whatever was in front of her, but since she had no theories others than what was written in 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series, then she had some catching up to do.

ALSO, YES, CASSIA, COME TO US! ^__^

He wasn't exactly unwelcoming to the Hufflepuff that joined them, but he also didn't go out of his way to move or make space for her. One who doth know Cutty well might suppose that that was as good as a Howdy, ma'am. "Cutty Mordaunt." He gave his name shortly to the wee Claw girl he now knew as Maddie. Maddi Cooper. Cutty paused and watched as others started up. Books and notes was what they went for it seemed. The thickly bundled snake seized a blue bound volume and one of the instruments from the table and played with it as he toyed with motives and desires.

Was this truly an intentional work or merely a freakish weather pattern? Cutty was leaning toward the first, as the latter left him wondering why Professor Flamsteed wouldn't have just went with the polar vortex theory or something akin. No. It wasn't nature. It would've occurred to the learned Professor. It would've occurred and have been tested. Also, on this page was the fact that if were merely a severe winter brought on by purely natural forces, some Order of Merlin warlock or another (perhaps several if that's what it took) could've put an end to it in the interest of getting information (at the very least!) in and out of the school. The owls of concerned parents to the board must've been interesting. Not at all naturally occurring. That didn't, however mean that it wasn't something scientific methods and instruments couldn't help them figure out.

Jezz had lent him her copy of Hogwarts a History, but it had been a while since he'd read it, he did however recall a train wreck one school year. So much dramz seemed to have gone down that year and Cutty was impressed with it. Throughout the years it seemed there was also one person or another. Without access to the prophet it made it rather difficult to know if the Wizarding World had made any new enemies for whom something like this would've been a likely outcome. Or maybe it was an old enemy. If the snow didn't threaten to kill he might be able to find some evidence out there. Couldn't they at least take a sample?

The Slyth lifted his hand to get the Astronomy Professor's attention, "Professor Flamsteed, have there been any tests done at all on the snow to assure that there aren't any magical properties to it?".

SPOILER!!: Simon! :D Of course!

Something was definitely up with Professor Flamsteed but at least he returned the gesture. Perhaps if they found something in the various books that were spread across the tables in this section then the Professor would feel a little more relieved. He nodded his head, then picked up an encyclopedia, and opened it. Right. Now what was he looking for?

Before he could even ask the question, Airey had already answered it. Archeoastronomy. His brow furrowed as he tried to remember the notes he had borrowed from that class. Wasn't dark magic rumored to gain power during this time and that witches and wizards may have the ability to harness special powers during solstices. And hadn't they discussed something about Stonehenge to and Morgan Le Fay?

He set to work, reading some books on the history of Hogwarts to see if the weather had ever been this cold before. His blue eyes widened when he read about the 2048 year. Then Simon pulled out a second notebook (always have to be prepared with two notebooks because who knew when Ethan would take one!) and began scribbling down some notes.

Simon blinked a couple of times trying to process what he had just read. The Book of Mysteria? Well that sounded a little bit odd and certainly mysterious. It didn't really give him a nice, warm, cozy feeling when he read the title of it. He glanced up from his reading and nudged his mate, Ethan. "Want to team up?" he asked with a bright grin. Two detectives in training working together would be better than one working alone.

The fair-haired Snake squinted and turned to face Simon. "Do you really have to ask that? There's no one else in this room I'd partner up with y'know. This is our thing."But Ethan was lost. Really lost. There's a plethora of possibilities regarding this freak weather, but it was a wise choice to go and review their own wizarding history. See what the old folks have found out...and how they managed to pull through it. Simon, obviously, already went on ahead and opened books and whatnot. Ethan too, took note...and along the way, he caught sight of something.

The date. 2048? He knew he read that date somewhere.

Ethan got his satchel and got his own detective notebook. And in between its pages, he pulled out the article that Professor Romanos had given them during class about the Skygge. Could it be coincidence? "I know the Quibbler isn't the most reliable source of information, but this could be something. Look at the date. November of 2048." Ethan showed the piece of article to Watson Simon and waited for his input. It may not be related to Archeoastronomy, but all materials on hand should be taken into account. "...I reckon we get all the information we can find, then deduce from there." Sounds like a plan, no?

No onto some more legit information...hmm.

Ah, Fawkes.

Not that she felt 100% safe at Hogwarts, she just told herself she was, but really, she never really was. LOL. Her dad had been right in telling her home was safer. HA. Well. Research was going to happen. Vigorous research to save her butt. There was NO way Beverly Wayne was going down because of SNOW. What a loser way to go.

Grabbing a bunch of articles she skimmed through some of them until her eyes stilled on a certain one.

Snow. In September. BLINK. Werewolves. BLINK BLINK. Dead professor. BLINK BLINK BLINK. Dementor. BLINK BLINK BLINK BLINK.

She stopped reading. Holy Merlin's beard. "This doesn't make sense." She didn't realize she was speaking out loud. "Snow, werewolves and a Dementor. Then nothing in the morning." She rubbed the back of her neck.

Okay. She needed to learn more heating charms. Arrow conjuring--preferably silver ones. And the Patronus Charm. Then she'd be able to kick butt.

This sucked. Really, really sucked. More research. More ways to save her butt. More ways to give herself nightmares.

And he heard Miss Wayne muttering to herself over there and looking extremely anxious. Definitely heard the term dementor being thrown about there as well. "Fear not, Miss Wayne. It has already been ruled out that this is the cause of dementors."

SPOILER!!: Zander & Lux

Actually, no it was all about the weather. Because uh, hello, they wouldn't be here if they weren't TRAPPED INSIDE!!!

Ahem. Anyways, LUX! Was she looking for a partner toooo? His love advice friend came over at just the right time! Actually, the wrong time because he was still trying to stall and thinking about food he couldn't eat. Man. "Sure, Lux!" They had made a pretty decent team in Arithmancy, after all. "Where'd ya wanna start?" Zander thought for a moment before looking back up at the Hufflepuff. "I think maybe the Cold One stuff would be a good place?" Just because he had his theories.

His theory that Romanos was controlling an army of Cold Ones to take over the school! But then, the Cold Ones were too strong and overthrew her! AND THEN, now they're coming to attack the castle and they cursed Hogwarts and made it Antartica and are planning to freeze everyone's hearts and stuff. Of course, Sophie knew all about that theory, but he'd need some more research done before he could share it with everyone else, you know?

... COLD ONES?!

The question was an innocent one, but that didn't keep Lux from turning as white as a sheet. "If Bay was attacked by a Cold One, that means his heart was frozen and he won't get better again." That thought made her want to cry.

Ah yes, Airey overheard this bit as well. Medea would have the stellar timing of teaching a lesson about icy zombies right when Hogwarts was struck with what appeared to be an eternal winter. He had really only partly been paying attention during that lesson, since he had been present due to bringing his zombie arm trophy to Medea, but he was fairly confident that Medea had not mentioned anything about these Cold Ones bringing any sort of winter with them wherever they went.

But before he could say anything to the pair about their selection of research, his attention was drawn to Mr. Simon and Mr. Mordaunt who seemed to be huddled around a copy of the Quibbler.

Of sweet solstice.

"Stick to the materials on the desk, if you will please, gentlemen," he interrupted as he made a grand gesture down the table. "Perhaps you two ought to look at something more useful like the codex?"

Rubbish publication. Why Medea had even used that as a source was beyond his reasoning.

Airey shook his head. "Nothing as far as testing done via magical forensics," he replied. Then again, Hogwarts wasn't exactly equipped for such experimentation as far as he knew. Not that he had been down to the Potions classroom any time recently to check things. "But what I can tell you from my own observations is that this snow is especially...difficult to melt...took quite a long time for the snow that accumulated in the classroom from opening the windows to melt despite warming up the room."

So, was there something magical about this snow? Most definitely. Snow was supposed to melt when the temperature was above freezing. Not sit there perfectly intact for hours before it started to show signs of melting.

Jasmine was working alone, yes alone. Before she let her mind delve into the why of that, she focused on doing one thing that she knew she would enjoy. She wasn't a Ravenclaw for nothing and searching though a stack of books was right up her alley. When she was a little girl, she would spend hours in the library browsing through the reference books. You never know when a random fact might come in handy.

If they weren't researching this freakishly cold weather, Jasmine would even consider this activity fun. As it was, this was an attempt to solve the very serious problem they were dealing with. Reaching over, Jasmine picked up a thick book and began to look through it. Winter, cold, snow, extreme, she searched through the pages trying to find a connection. This was not going to be an easy task.

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

Adi decided he'd work alone for this task. What was it with him and not wanting to partner up these days? Anyway, partner or not, he would get this done.

Pulling a particularly thick book from one of the shelves, he began to scan through it. Flamsteed did say something about weather in the Muggle World, right? Adi figured everyone would be checking on stuff from the Wizarding world; he could see a few students with copies of Hogwarts, A History. Maybe he could dig up something from the Muggle world, then.

Ian was doing his best to look through the different tomes gathered before him. He was very curious. He loved to do the research and he was glad he didn't have to write a research paper when he was done. he was here for solutions, not grades.

He is reading a book about Celtic Gods and Goddesses and reads the following words:
In Scotland, where she is also known as Beira, Queen of Winter, she is credited with making numerous mountains and large hills, which are said to have been formed when she was striding across the land and accidentally dropped rocks from her creel or wicker basket. In other cases she is said to have built the mountains intentionally, to serve as her stepping stones. She carries a hammer for shaping the hills and valleys, and is said to be the mother of all the goddesses and gods.

The Cailleach displays several traits befitting the personification of winter: she herds deer, she fights spring, and her staff freezes the ground.

He walks over to Professor Flamsteed. Professor. I'm not sure if this means anything. It is interesting. Perhaps someone has found the Cailleach's staff and is using it to control the weather around Hogwarts? It was worth a shot any way.

Simon stared at a particular passage about the Book of Mysteria and looked sort of stumped. He turned the page and three newspaper articles fell out of the text and he bent over to pick them up. Mysterious dark forces turned Professors to ice back in 2050? he read. Did that have something to do with the Book of Mysteria? He kept flicking through the pages, looking for specific references to the book but he didn't find an answer about the books whereabouts.

"What about the Book of Mysteria?" he blurted out. Whoops. Form a Question, Simon. Form a complete question. He raised his hand. "I mean... Professors, do you know what happened to the Book of Mysteria? This book doesn't really tell us much about what happened to it after the 2050's," he asked both Flamsteed and Botros. Man, he wished that he had a time turner so he could go back in time and REALLY see what happened.

They would die in seconds.

...."That sounds about right and awfully depressing, wow, thanks Lottie." The Gryffindor had never felt more trapped before now. Instant death would put a bit of a damper on their California plans so she'd be sure to keep herself--all limbs yes--inside the castle until they could figure this out...which they were here to do today with some luck.

Lex picked up one of the lighter books, not at all in any hurry to pick the massive ones that gave her a headache on sight but just as she opened it she heard talk of another book. She glanced back at Lottie. "What Book of Mysteria are they going on about?" Did they mean that lost one? She'd heard something about it, not much, just that it was damn useful even in the wrong hands depending on your perspective.

"What if we've been cursed? Some idiot did threaten us earlier." What if this was his way of making sure they followed the no sports? Couldn't exactly play Quidditch with this weather.

"Professor, how can you tell when an area's been cursed?" Maybe Botros would know, or even Airey.

Botros had smiled and patted the heads of those kids he passed on his way to professor Flamsteed. "Of course." he replied to his thanks. "About those books I told you about..." He scratched his chin, a little concerned. "I haven't found one that dealt with archaeoastronomy. Must've misplaced them, or had them back home." The fact that they were pretty much trapped in was getting more and more troublesome. Botros sighed and continued, "I'm sure we'll find something in here, though." He nodded and turned to the students, looking for anyone who needed help.

Oh, Mr. Holden had an interesting theory. Ab, who seated himself on an empty chair, looked up at Airey with meaningful eyes. "That's an interesting question, son. I don't believe the whereabouts of the book is accurately known to the general public."It was waaay after Botros had been in Hogwarts, he'd been in Egypt and now he squinted his eyes trying to remember the latest they knew about said book... he did have his doubts about it being relevant to what they were researching, though.

With a smile, not because of the idea of being cursed per se, but because this was a precious scene right there. "You should know, Miss Cambridge, from a former lesson of ours that the very blocks that make Hogwarts' stones are etched with strong Runic Wards that repel curses." He gave her a playful disappointed look, but his smile didn't leave his face.

"However, that's not a bad idea... actually, we can use what we learnt from that lesson in unraveling those potential curses..." He looked expectantly at the Gryffindor, then over to her Hufflepuff friend.

SPOILER!!: Botros

The fact that they were pretty much trapped in was getting more and more troublesome.
Botros' attention was drawn to Cambridge... with books around her, no less. Well, this was a sight he was going to take to his grave. With a smile, not because of the idea of being cursed per se, but because this was a precious scene right there. "Right, glad to hear it, mate," said Simon as he grinned at Ethan. Yep, the two of them had this detective duo thing going on. It just all happened on the first day that they had met back in October when it was a little bit warmer than it was now.

As Simon was busy flipping through various textbooks, Ethan spoke up about the article that Professor Romanos had given to them during the second Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Ah, very clever Sherlock. Very clever. Simon nodded. "Right. Good idea. Look at everything just in case. And that fits in to the whole thing with the Book of Mysteria. The name itself sounds like a clue alone... I'm not sure if it'd fit into archeoastronomy but it definitely has something to do with the extreme winter weather that we're experiencing," he explained and then an idea popped into his head. If the Book of Mysteria somehow caused the snow to fall heavily back in 2048 and it had spells that attracted the Dark Arts- perhaps it was attracting the Skurge? He blinked. Maybe that was a little too far-fetched but it could work, hey?

Before he could reply to Ethan, Professor Flamsteed told them to look at something like a codex. Hmmm.. He nodded giving the Professor a faint smile and then turned back to Holmes. "I think that's a good plan but how about you get started on that and I'll take a look at this 'codex'? he said. And after they had gathered enough information then the two could confer. Without an answer, Simon began to conduct his research. He needed to look for keywords anything to do with 'extreme weather', 'archeoastronomy', and 'Book of Mysteria'. He felt as if those words would lead him to something.

Now Professor Botros' response seemed to tell the young third year that he didn't know much about the book either. Hmmm... He gave the Professor a kind smile and turned back to his reading. He had to look for things about archeoastronomy, extreme weather, and the codex. However, the more Simon looked at through these various books, the more he kept on coming back to the Book of Mysteria.

Hmm...

Well, it's not exactly her fault the purpose of life was to do as much as you could do before finally dying, yeah? It's the course of nature. Some just happen to die sooner than later. After all, Lotus had to go to California with her. She had to. Period.

The words of this particular Slytherin boy (Simon) couldn't be missed. Mainly because she thought her name was being brought up. Lotus didn't leave the doors opened this time NOR THE LAST ONE, okay?? The dementors getting inside was NOT her fault. Neither was this weather, FYI. But what he mentioned was the Book of Mysteria. Well, then, she made sure her ears will catch everything involving said book.

"It's quite a powerful book," and you read about it, no doubt, Lex, it was in their notebooks. In great detail, too. Or as much detail as there was. "I don't know what the weather was like last time it was here, though." She didn't know where the book was now, and it seemed Botros didn't either.

Moving on...

His greeting was returned and shortly after, Professor Flamsteed thanking them for coming and explaining just what he wanted them to research. They would be using various books and such to both into the concept of archeoastronomy...or what exactly it was called, which called upon the connection to the man's lessons and the world of Professor Botros. With regular history in the midst of everything else.

As everyone went to work, Benny was trying to decide how he should work. He looked around to see who to work with yet it appeared as if the three siblings were working together and Adi was working alone and already starting. The Hufflepuff aware he was there near him. Right? He almost went up to him but left him alone. The Gryffindor wasn't going to push his friend to work with him. They could both work alone...no biggie.

The third year picked up a random book, leafing through it for any of the key words that were mentioned. Benny didn't find anything that necessarily screamed a match but as some of his fellow classmates called out questions, he decided to add his two knuts into the discussion. "Could there be something in or around the castle thats causing it to be used as a focus of the weather? " he asked, raising a question for the professors. And the group if they themselves had any thoughts on the matter. "Like Stonehedge was supposed to be." The book he found having a mix of muggle and magical in it.

Botros did remind them at the castle was marked all around with runes and such.

There was nothing worse than someone else being right by default. The only thing that made this easier was the fact it was Lottie advice and that was usually the easiest thing to follow. This staying inside because it was the smartest decision in the Universe business was rubbish but what choice did she have? "I'm trying." She informed the concerned bestie. "Hard to venture out when the giant double doors are sealed shut behind Merlin knows how much snowfall and the wind makes a habit of shutting the windows you open." No flying through windows either, go figure. Not that the sky was any place for a Gryffindor at a time like this.

Just as she thought, it was a powerful book. Familiar powerful. Somehow she felt like it should have been ringing more bells than it was but........the last thing Lex would remember while stir crazy was notes in a book she didn't actually read, you know?

"I dunno what the weather was like either but if it's got powerful magic in it then it might have something strong enough to make a never ending snow storm?" Surely it wasn't just some fancy wand waving that got them all stuck inside. It was still a little far fetched though. When was the last time anyone even SAW that book?--

Circe look at the size of that book Lottie was attempting to read.

....Lovely.

SPOILER!!: Don't get used to the reading Botros

Never trust a sentence that started with 'you should know', it usually came right before someone stating something you had absolutely NO idea about. Take for example Professor Botros here who was under the impression that in her state of jittery restlessness, she could still remember things taught in any lesson that didn't involve tunneling under the castle and them breaking free of this place. Thanks for the reminder though, it was much needed. "So then.....you taught us how to remove stuff and make 'em ineffective, has anyone checked if someone messed with our runes?"

Then he complimented her while saying things that required further thinking and the Gryffindor could only look to Lottie who seemed to have gotten more of what the Runes Professor was going on about.

What now? Her brain wasn't into learning today, evidently.

SPOILER!!: More Lottie

dream until your • dreams come true ~ Human pygmy puff

As Jasmine's scanned the pages, something interesting caught her eye. Now this was intersting, she thought as she read the information. Taking out her quill, she began to scribble down some notes.

SPOILER!!: Jasmine's notes
The Little Ice Age was a period between 1550 and 1850 when the weather became significantly colder than usual. There were three especially cold intervals that started in 1650, 1770 and 1850. In Europe and North America, the winters were much colder. Snow was heavier and stayed around longer. Canals and rivers were deeply frozen. In some countries, crops failed and livestock could not be maintained because the winters were so harsh. On a related note, some historians believed that witch hunts increased during this time.

Jasmine took a moment to ponder what all of that meant. She didn't know if that information would relate to their situation in any way or even be helpful at all. She continued to look through her book to see if she could find anything else related to extreme weather.

Lucy continued her research and this time she went back in time..
Finally she read a news story that could be useful for her work..So she took her quill and started to write:
Quote:
The winter of 1645 was very cold.
The population of London one morning found that Thames was frozen..
The muggles scientists spoke about a low activity of the sun but in the magical world the Ministry of Magic began to perform many raids on the homes of the sorcerers more suspected.
Lucy thought that perhaps the guilty was not found..

Upon scanning what felt like the hundredth page in the book, Adi paused over a passage that interested him. Hmmm...fascinating stuff. This would make good notes. Adi lugged the book over to where he had been sitting, momentarily glancing to Benny who was asking a question. He had totally forgotten about his friend otherwise he would have suggested they work together. Ah, well.

Writing equipment all set, the Hufflepuff began to scribble.

The Blizzard of 1888 in Northeastern US:
Lots and Lots of snow, frigid temperatures, snow drifts that affected the entire northeastern United States from New England to the Chesapeake Bay which began in March as a rain storm. About 400 prsons perished while about 100 were lost at sea.

Woah. Serious stuff there.

The above is an excerpt from the epic poem written by Berinon the Bard recounting the events leading up to the first of many duels that would occur between Morgan la Fay and Merlin. While wizarding historians argue the authenticity of the account, some theorizing that the cause of the five month winter recorded by scribes of the time was in fact cause by an unusual chort migration due to the increase of tuberculosis cases among muggles, evidence of la Fay’s carvings and the bind runes carved by Merlin himself to seal her curse away still remain on innermost chamber of the Star Temple of Avalon.
There is also an image at the bottom of the page.

Simon turned the next dust covered page, carefully blowing on it first to get rid of the excess amount of dust. Once some of the dust had been removed, his blue eyes focused on the page that he was reading. His eyes widened as he read the text.

"After the nights grew long and the famine months upon
Woe unto those who had wronged her darkened soul
Morgan la Fay flew to the Star Temple on the hills of Avalon
on wings of jet black and contempt
To stone she carved - with talon fingernails -
the symbol of Winter’s wrath
Black magic she cast to curse the land
and bring forth winter eternal
" he whispered softly to himself.

HUH?!?!?
The young wizarding detective in training was stumped. What did THAT mean?

Wasn't Morgan La Fay from around Merlin's time? And Avalon...The Star Temple. Sure, he understood some of the references from reading and watching some of those muggle things dedicated to the Arthurian Legends but still what did THAT mean? Simon had no clue. He read the excerpt and his eyes widened to the size of saucers when he read about a five month winter. Five months? How long had their winter been? It had been a long one but he wasn't sure if it had been less or more than five months. It certainly felt more than five months.

His eyes wandered down the page and then he saw the image. Squinting, he tried to see what was possibly written on it. There were a couple weird marks on the right hand side of the page. Were those runes? If they were, then the second one that he could see sort of looked like the letter 'H'- was that Hagalaz? Then the third one could be a flipped Laguz? He couldn't make out those symbols so perhaps he was getting way too ahead of himself. But what about the carvings on the temple wall? They were hard to make out as some of them had faded or had a large crack running through it. He squinted his eyes and then nudged Holmes. "Ethan. Look. here," he whispered pointing to the page that he had just read.

Before saying anything else, Simon figured that he should show THIS to the Professors. He raised his hand up simply and then began waving his hand rather quickly. "Professors? I found this description here in the codex. It's about a five month winter, Morgan La Fay, and the Star Temple of Avalon. I think you should both take a look at this," he said.

She stood her arms crossed over her chest as she listened to what Lex and Lottie were saying. Mhhm. Glad to hear they cancelled the option of going out. The seventh year nodded in approval. Surely her opinion was known on that one.

Oh, and Lex with a book, interesting look. She was just going to stand here enjoying the view.

"Now that's an intereting looking book," she told Lottie. Was she gonna read it? That might take time. Mhhm. "You know, we could check the index and see what it talks of," surely there would be no time to skim even.

Her attention then was drawn to Simon who was checking the codex. Interesting things he was saying.

Zoe looked up from the Hogwarts history book at one of the students speaking up to the professors about a Morgan La Fay and the star temple of Avalon. The name sounded familiar to her but not the temple thing. Hmmm.... She wondered what that was and kept her ears perked for anything more about it, but kept flipping through her book.

... COLD ONES?!

The question was an innocent one, but that didn't keep Lux from turning as white as a sheet. "If Bay was attacked by a Cold One, that means his heart was frozen and he won't get better again." That thought made her want to cry.

But before he could say anything to the pair about their selection of research, his attention was drawn to Mr. Simon and Mr. Mordaunt who seemed to be huddled around a copy of the Quibbler.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy. Maybe he shouldn't have brought up the Cold One theory? Uh.... Wrong move? Of course Lux was worried about Bay! Heck, Zander was worried about Bay too! Bay was his mate!! But Lux, Lux and Bay were dating. Of course she'd be completely thrown off by any mentions of Cold Ones. "I-uh-I Lux, it probably isn't the Cold Ones... We could study something else? Anything you'd want to research in particular?"

Yeah. Nice save.

The Gryffindor also noticed Flamsteed giving them certain looks, but then he turned away. Okay Professor not sure what just happened, but he'll just take than as an okay!

Okay, so that book was useless. Nothing about cold anything, not even cold cuts, in the index. So she put it aside and pulled another book towards herself.

It was just when she was going to open the book that someone spoke up. Morgan Le Fey? Star of Avalon? Sounded a bit far fetched to her, but something told her to take it seriously. So, she first checked the book (which seemed older than the last) for an index, then, not finding one started carefully turning the pages one by one, scanning for any mention of Morgan Le Fay, the Star of Avalon and this five month winter.

While she was scanning through the book, she asked something that had been bothering her for awhile now. "Professors, has anyone tried the Floo system?" Like, even briefly? Even just for a short communication?
