Default Potions 2

Professor Culloden isn't by the door this time, but is sitting on his chair, looking at the door to see who was coming. The soft, calming blue walls welcome you again, as well as the chairs with soft cushions, charmed to take the most comfortable shape and height once a student is seated. By the door of the potions store room stands one big, grey rubbish bin and a white, porcelain washbasin with a tap for those who wants to wash their hands before/after the class and who can't perform 'Aguamenti' charm.

There writes a message in the Professor's own hand-writing on board:

Welcome to the term's second potions lesson. :-)

OOC: If you are going to RP your characer use the washbasin or the bin, you don't have to take Cosgrach's permission. Just assume he has granted it.

The lesson has started, so please don't post your characters arriving late. Just act as if they have been here all along.

Potion Progress

Cabeza de Turco
• Purified water
• 10 hippogriff feathers
• Half a unicorn horn (grated before starting)
• Glumbumble parts
• Half a Fwooper voice chords
• One drop of doxy venom
• Frog leg

1. Grate half a unicorn horn
2. Heat the cauldron for a minute at medium heat
3. Add 3 glasses of purified water
4. Add hippogriff feathers one by one
5. Count to ten and stir the potion counter clockwise once. Count to twenty and stir it clockwise once. Count to thirty and stir counter clockwise once again. - CAREFUL WITH THIS STEP!
6. Add the grated unicorn horn and draw an arrow pointing to right with your wand.
7. If the colour has turned bright white, add glumbumble parts and stir five times clockwise with wooden stirrer.
8. Add fwooper voice chords and wave your wand.
9. Add one drop of doxy venom. It should smoke for a few seconds. Wave your wand again once it stops smoking.
10. Add the frog leg and whisper a motivational quote or an inspirational person’s name.

-The colour is dark grey and it sits completely still even if you shook it.
-It depends on how strong your will is. The weaker it gets, the longer this potion will last and the more effective it will be.
-It will also reawaken suppressed guilt and especially these will eat you alive.
-Anyone can induce guilt, but the brewer is more powerful.
-If added into a drink (not potion), it will briefly smoke. Once the smoke dissipates, the taste and the colour of the drink is the same.

Text Cut: Kevin's detention after class
Cosgrach wasn't thinking straight, so he didn't even wince when he wasted a few ingredients for that stupid brat's detention. After dinner, he came directly to his beloved classroom and went about trashing it: he broke some vials and scattered the glass everywhere, MULTIPLIED the rubbish the students left behind, yanked the rubbish bin to the ground, turned those three buckets (one: half-done potion and two: purified water) upside down and spread the liquid to every single inch of the floor (the potion was sticky and ewwwww), deliberately placed some slippery and disgusting-but-cheap ingredients around the door for him to STEP ON and SLIIIIIDE, and opened a nasty-smelly vial of potion that would make any unprepared person nauseous. It didn't affect him, though, as this was his LIFE. But if that brat even THOUGHT of vomiting!

Satisfied with his work, he went and spoke to Alexa, and returned to sit on one of the desks near the door with cold-blooded calmness, waiting for his prey.

So love potions were forbidden? That was good to know. Not that AJ would ever use one, and she would hate for one to be used on her. In fact she would be infuriated with whoever tried to pull one over on her. She listened to all of the others answers that everybody gave and it was so much information. The first year had no idea how people knew so much about this world. Of course a lot of the people were older so that made a difference.

So what potion were they making again? While she was listening to the professor, she was having a hard time retaining all of the information that was give. She would figure out the name of the potion as she went. Instead she wrote down the notes from the board. So far all they had to do was grate half of a unicorn horn, and she could totally handle that. Making sure that all of her equipment was clean, the first year got straight to work. Half of a unicorn horn was grated. She was ready for the next step.

Cris breathed a sigh of relief to hear that his answer had been acceptable but that didn't stop him from taking down notes.

Cabeza De Turzo potion huh? That really did sound interesting. Cris picked up his quill and began writing down the ingredients and the first step they were supposed to carry out.

Text Cut: Cris' journal

Cabeza De Turco potion

[u]Ingredients:[/s]
1. Pure water
2. 10 hippogriff feathers
3. Half a unicorn horn (grated before starting)
4. Glumbumble parts
5. Half a Fwooper voice chords
6. One drop of doxy venom
7. Frog leg

Steps to make potion:
1. Clean grater, cauldron and bowl
2. Grate unicorn horn

Cris pulled out his cauldron, grater and a bowl from his potions kit and magically cleaned all three using the Scouring spell, by pointing his wand into each other and saying,"Scourgify." Then he ended the spell before picking each one up to examine them. Ensuring that they were thoroughly cleaned and that the cauldron was free of cracks, he next cleaned the surface of his workstation and once that was cleaned, he ended the spell, temporarily holstering his wand.

Putting on a clean pair of gloves, he then extracted half a unicorn horn from his potions kit and holding the horn between his fingers, Cris began to grate it. Up and down, up and down, he smoothly grated the horn, allowing the grated parts to fall into the bowl he had cleaned. When he had finished the last bit, he brushed off any remaining bits that were stuck to his fingers before placing the grater down on the table.

Then he sat back and waited for further instructions.

Beverly watched the professor's expression at her reply and had to chew on the inside of her cheek to keep from looking amused. Has that gossip paper made it to him? Did he KNOW? A hunch told her Culloden was in with the info. Anyway...

She had to pay attention to all of this information being thrown at them. Normally, history wasn't her thing, but all this talk about manipulation kept sparking her interest and she HAD to know things for certain reasons. You never know when a potion like this could come in handy. You never knooow.

After jotting down what she believed was important, Beverly set her quill down. It was potion-making time! And they were going to start by grating half a unicorn horn. The Slytherin was on it.

Maddie got to thinking about herself while Professor Culloden was explaining things to the class. Was SHE easily guilt-ridden? Well, NO. Guilt wasn't a feeling she was super familiar with, actually. As for how strong her will was, the brunette was SURE it was REALLY strong. It HAD to be and she would prove it, UH-HUH.

After scribbling down some facts she'd found particularly interesting, the first year cleaned her cauldron and THEN her grater and THEN a bowl she could grate over. Next she got her half a unicorn horn and focused on THAT.

They'd harvested this much like they had the dragon parts they'd used last time, right? Maddie had read that unicorns were VERY pure and that it was a real crime to harm them in ANY way so she was PRETTY sure she didn't need to feel bad about how this horn was obtained. And so she set to work grating the thing, making sure to handle the grater carefully so she didn't cut her fingers in the process. HER blood wasn't required in this potion, NOPE.

SPOILER!!: Notes

Norah grinned. "Kittredge, sir. Norah Kittredge." Whoops, she guessed she had forgotten to introduce herself on the way in. Although she had heard some mixed opinions on Professor Culloden, she decided she liked him. At least the smiley face on the board made him see like a man worthy of respect.

After scribbling down the ingredients and instructions on her parchment, Norah pulled out her supplies from the potions kit she had gotten over the summer in Diagon Alley. Inspecting everything closely to make sure they were clean, she rummaged through her ingredients until she found something that seemed as if it could be a unicorn horn. A quick glance around the room confirmed her assumption, and she set herself to the task of grating half of it. Up, down, up, down. The methodical task was oddly soothing, considering she was in the process of pulverizing a solid object, and paired with the calm blue of the walls and the cushion of her chair Norah found her eyelids growing heavy. Wait. Being tired would definitely result in something blowing up She shook her head slightly and focused on the unicorn horn as more of it disappeared into her bowl. She was NOT going to blow anything up, thank you very much.

Cababa de Whatsa?

How was he suppose to make a potion that he couldn't even remember the name of? Kyroh shrugged it off and started to take notes. This whole story behind the potion creation didn't seem nice at all. Filled with bullies and everything. And Kyroh didn't think he'd want to try a manipulation potion. He didn't want to be manipulated! He hadn't done anything!

SPOILER!!: Kyroh's Notes

Kyroh Scabior - First Year

Potion: Cabbage Dela Whooza (Or something of the sort)
History: It was created between 1542 (the creation of Spanish Inquisition) and 1689 (the Signing of International Statute of Secrecy). The Spanish Inquisition was this thing were people were being mean to other people and punishing them on their beliefs like big bullies. They made this potion to give to the people that the big bullies thought were wrong in their beliefs so they would follow them like robot zombies.
Purpose: Manipulative potion
Ingredients:
• Pure water
• 10 hippogriff feathers
• Half a unicorn horn (grated before starting)
• Glumbumble parts
• Half a Fwooper voice chords
• One drop of doxy venom
• Frog leg

Steps to make potion:
1. Clean grater, cauldron and bowl
2. Wash hands.
2. Cut unicorn horn in half and grate it.

Once he was finished writing everything down, the first year pointed his want in his cauldron smugly. "Scourgify!" He declared in a smooth s shape. A blast emitting from his wand just like he had practiced, cleaning the cauldron completely. And look! No dirt spots left this time! Moving over to the onto the items in his potion kit, Kyroh one by one repeated the spell, and the wand movement cleaning each of them. LOOK HOW COULD HE WAS GETTING!

He would have even tried washing his hands....but one hand would still be dirty right? So instead Kyroh hopped down and ran to the back where the washbasin was, and scrubbed his hands till they were nice and clean.

Running back to his spot he stared back at the board.

Grating half a unicorn horn.

....He had JUST talked about unicorns. Had Culloden done that on purpose!? DID IT HURT THE UNICORN!? It couldn't right? Kyroh had read that hurting unicorns were like the worst thing you could do EVER. Even worse than like hurting baby monkeys or something. And baby monkeys were pretty cute. Grabbing a full unicorn horn took out his knife and did his best to cut it in half. It took a while. Until his hand started to hurt and cramp up, the the horn finally broke in what seemed like half and NOW he could get started.

Picking up the clean grater and lifting it above his bowl the first year began to work away. Up and down and up and down and up and down. And left and right and left and right and left and right. And grate and grate. And more grate. So much grating. He wasn't even paying that much attention. Eventually though only a little stub was left and Kyroh's attention focused back on the task at hand. The tiny stub made its way through the holes and THERE. He was done the first step! Now question time! "Professor how come they didn't just make everyone believe what they wanted and not manipulate people because that's mean?"

Then there was talking. And lots of it, too.

Grayson would have been bored out of his mind because hello, this was a Potions lesson. He didn't particularly care about the history part. His interest was perked up when Culloden went and gave a potion to a girl who looked to be close to his age. HMMMM? What could that be about, eh? Shame he wasn't friends with the girl otherwise he would have asked her about that. Maybe even see if she was willing to share whatever was in there. Shame indeed.

Then the Potions professor was launching into an explanation and leaving out the juicier bits. Great. What was the point of a story if you were going to leave out the good parts? Forget about the tiny people, he wanted to know about the blood and gore. All of it. Every. Gruesome Detail. Maybe this was something he'd research for himself later out of curiosity. Unless the Potions Master was willing to tell him. Of course, he'd have to think of an innocent way of asking. Didn't want the man to think that he was actually thinking of trying this out, as interesting as it was.

It was interesting. Especially seeing who was easily guilt-ridden and who wasn't.

Oh good! They were getting started. BRILLIANT. THIS was more like it. Grayson pulled the grater closer towards him before pulling out his wand. "Scourgify!" Cleanliness and whatnot. He then took hold of the half a unicorn horn and gave it a look over. Heh. Weren't these things dead expensive? He shrugged before starting on the grating.

Okay, there! Now to clean his material first, "Scourgify!". He checked over it twice and then went to clean his hands. Now that he was squeaky clean, he proceeded to grate the half of a unicorn horn.

Dang well she gave it a try, that is all that matters, right? She cast a smile up towards the Professor, thankful that he didn't embarrass her for not knowing the spell name. Time for notes. She pulled out her quill and started. The whole history of it, a bit boring. Cabbage De Turnip??? ....Was there cabbage, in it? She hated cabbage... And what if she didn't want to try a manipulation potion... But she had too.

SPOILER!!: Arista's Notes

Arista Royal's Note

Potion: Cabeza De Turco (Or something of the sort)
Purpose: Manipulative potion
Ingredients:
  • Pure water
  • 10 hippogriff feathers
  • Half a unicorn horn (grated before starting)
  • Glumbumble parts
  • Half a Fwooper voice chords
  • One drop of doxy venom
  • Frog leg

Steps to make potion:
  1. Clean grater, cauldron and bowl. And then wash hands.
  2. Cut unicorn horn in half and grate it.

Once she was finished writing everything down, the first year pointed her wand into her cauldron . "Scourgify!", along with the S wand movement. The cauldron was cleaned completely, and look no explosion like last time. Now time for the potion kit! She repeated the wand movement and the spell cleaning each one of them. Look she was quite good at this. She should probably wash her hands....She ran to the washing station and after finishing she ran back to her desk.

Staring at the board, unicorn horn? Poor unicorns...

Okay so she had to grate half a unicorn horn.

Sigh, she had to grate a unicorn horn... Arista hoped the creature wasn't harmed when it was taken from him, hopefully it was dead... Grabbing a full unicorn horn took out her knife and did her best to cut the horn in half. It took forever but she finally was able to cut the horn in half. She picked up the grater and lifted it above the bowl, the first year began to grate and grate and grate and grate. There we go, now that all of it was grated she smiled. First step done.

two sides of the same coin

Okay this lesson definitely had Desiree's interest. Even the history interlude was pretty fascinating. She did notice the professor leaving a potion on some girl's desk, but didn't have time to dwell on it as she was still trying to keep up with the lesson- When he was done she took out her cauldron and muttered "Scourgify". Satisfied with that she took out her parchment and jotted down the notes:

Text Cut: Notes!

Ingredients
• Pure water
• 10 hippogriff feathers
• Half a unicorn horn (grated before starting)
• Glumbumble parts
• Half a Fwooper voice chords
• One drop of doxy venom
• Frog leg
Instructions
• Grate unicorn horn

So, 'Cabeza De Turzo'- it can make you confess to a crime you never committed.. hm. Naturally it makes sense that they would ban it from courts then. And as for who was going to be more susceptible to the potion, that she was really looking forward to. It was like one big social experiment. Personally Desiree liked to think she had a very active conscience and so it was probably going to have a pretty big effect on her. She looked around the classroom trying to gauge her classmates as she grated the unicorn horn. She couldn't judge off more than face value though and vowed to actually meet some of her classmates soon. She supposed evaluating their consciences wasn't a bad place to start.

Dancing Through Life

Gwen listened intently. This was some cool stuff. A potion that had been banned once, and was still not allowed in courtrooms? The sole purpose of this potion being manipulation? That was the coolest thing ever. She imagined giving the potion to people who upset her, and watching them practically melt with guilt. Then she squashed the thought. That was mean. Gwen wasn't a mean kid.

Also, so many people had said fear was a motivator, but Gwen disagreed. Fear was a paralytic. People weren't motivated by fear, they were crippled by it. Guilt though, that was a good motivator. If this potion was going to make them feel guilty, Gwen wasn't really sure she wanted to try it. As it usually was though, it was probably part of the lesson to partner up and taste some potion, so she set to work grating her unicorn horn.

Talk about an interesting history lesson. So it was suppose to be a guilt serum thing and it was too effective. Sounded fun to try on a prank or something like that.

Awesome, they were actually going to make it or Nigel presumed they were. He cleaned all his things he needed before hand like he should. Not dirty cauldron or anything like that. "Scourgify". Though one question. What was that potion he put on one of the Sophie's desks. There were seriously a lot of Sophie's for Nigel to remember. One that just graduated and now the two here. Probably forgetting a couple too.

The Seventh Year just grated his unicorn horn thinking random awesome things.

Sophie was proud of her response--oh, sooo proud! That was until Sophie Brown decided to contradict it. Followed by the professor who decided to contradict it, as well. Well, BOO to you, Sophie Brown and Professor Culloden. She eyed the professor as he agreed with the wrong Sophie other Sophie but otherwise said nothing as the lesson continued.

She was listening--she WAS--but the professor decided to uncork a vial of potion right by her just in case she might be drifting off. She sort of reached out her hand to take it--a free potion?--but figured out a second later that this wasn't a free-for-all. Oh, well. He had her attention, though.

So it was forbidden to use in courts...but nobody said she couldn't prank an unsuspecting Puff or Lion with it, did they?! Heh. It'd be funny to make them to confess to random rule-breaking around the school. Hee hee. ... This wasn't the right line of thinking, though, was it? Focus, Sophie. Focus.

She needed a unicorn horn. Right. Looking around, she spotted the one that was to be used in her own potion then began the process of cleaning everything she'd need before using it. Yup, always a good cleaning first. Then she set about grating the horn. Should they have a lit cauldron or something by now? Hmm? Glancing up at the board, she noted where that part was grated first. Mmkay. All done.

LOL! The strict look that Professor Culloden gave her and the others who mentioned love potions amused Lux. It was funny because she didn't need to use one; she had already HAD a boy. Besides, she wasn't one for manipulation and preferred to be loved for who she was.

And now they were at the heart of today's lesson. This Spanish Inquisition sounded very terrible from the way it was being explained. Poor people who had to suffer. Sighing to herself at the tragedy of it all, she took notes on what she deemed to be important. On the next page, she wrote the name of the potion and then the ingredients and first steps underneath:

SPOILER!!: Lux's Notes
Cabeza De Turco

Ingredients:
• Pure water
• 10 hippogriff feathers
• Half a unicorn horn (grated before starting)
• Glumbumble parts
• Half a Fwooper voice chords
• One drop of doxy venom
• Frog leg

Steps to Make Potion:
1. Clean all equipment
2. Grate unicorn horn

Picking up her wand, the first thing she did was make sure that all her equipment was cleaned. She had no idea what specifically they would be needing, so it was a good idea to cover all her bases. Now she had to grate a Unicorn horn. Thinking about it, she hoped that the poor things hadn't been harmed in the process. Trying her best to judge the half-way point, she cut a horn in half and proceeded to grate one of the pieces. There, done.

With nothing else to do at the moment, she crossed off the steps in her notes:

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

For the next question, Adi raised his hand. "Imperious Curse, Professor. But I think the Ministry of Magic would have or should have punishments in place against those who use it.'' He wasn't too sure on that but he was stating what he thought should be.
.................................................

Adi eyed the vial. He wasn't sure he liked the sound of that Potion. Who would like it to be used on them? He made some notes on it before copying down the list of ingredients as well as the first step.

Now it was time to get started on getting the unicorn hair ready. Adi cleaned the grater he would be using as well as a bowl using Scourgify. Then they boy started to grate the unicorn horn, letting the bits fall into the bowl until he had completed half of the horn.

"As you can guess, there were also fanatic wizard priests in the court, and they came up with this potion: Take a cup of this, and you will spill the beans! It made you confess the sins you have, they said, but that wasn't the truth: It made people feel guilty. Lots. It was nasty. Anyways. "Well, then the Statue came into effect, and it was forbidden to use on muggles. So, it was taken to las Americas." Because who would listen to the law? "These part of its history isn't very clear, but it is thought that it was used on muggle locals there for their enslavement. The rest, you know." Hundreds of thousands, dead or assimilated. Well. "But it was used for wizards. Until they've finally understood the mechanism. Now, as I've already said before, it's forbidden to use in courts."

That was some information, wasn't it? Cosgrach'd reached the front of the classroom, and took a breath.

"As West has already pointed out, some emotions are universal whereas some people just lack the others. Guilt is so, as well. Some people feel guilty a lot, some just don't care. As this is a manipulative potion, it won't affect everyone the same. Some will think that helping the elderly is a terrible thing to do, whereas the others will hardly be convinced making someone cry is bad." He looked at them. "It depends on how strong your will is, and whether you have a conscience to begin with. If you don't, it will be harder to manipulate you." He smiled then - he was curious to see who was strong and who was weak.

"And now, we begin. Please grate half a unicorn horn."

He tapped his wand on the board in the meantime, and the ingredients appeared
West shrugged one shoulder. It wasn't always what you knew, sometimes it was who you knew. Speaking of, he hadn't seen Borr in ages. Maybe he should write the old man before he died and stuff.

Y'know, after listening, West was curious about the part that the professor skipped over. Was there something else they needed to be prepared for?

... would they be having to test this potion?

That could get messy. Well fine, he'd just spend the lesson time mentally preparing himself and convincing himself he wasn't guilty of things, and justifying stuff. He'd be okay.

He got his things out and began to grate a unicorn horn, measuring half of one. Then he put that aside and made sure all of his other equipment was clean and ready, including making the effort to gather the ingredients that the professor had just put on the board.

Kace heard the professor's expliantion and realized it required a lot of note taking. He dipped his quill into his ink jar and scribbled. He scribbled till his hand hurt. This was useful information to know. He then looked up and realized he moved on the next question and he was so abosred into his notes he didn't realized they moved on. He looked over to Lux and realized they were beginning the potion. He copied down the potion into his notebook.

Ingredients:
• Pure water
• 10 hippogriff feathers
• Half a unicorn horn (grated before starting)
• Glumbumble parts
• Half a Fwooper voice chords
• One drop of doxy venom
• Frog leg

Steps to Make Potion:
1. Clean all equipment
2. Grate unicorn horn

After that he cleaned out his cauldron and said, "Scourgify!" and it was all clean. Then he went up to the room and got the Unicorn horn. He realized he needed to grate it. He got his grater and started to grate the unicorn horn. It seemed harder than it looked and he used some strength.

Guilt potion? No thank you. It sounded awful. At first it seemed like a truth serum, but when Culloden explained that it made you admit to things you hadn't even done, a line was drawn. That sounds awful. Especially because Zander has such a strong conscience. Maybe it was his inner Gryffindor kicking in, but doing the right thing was a first instinct. And guilt was awful.

Either way, Zander was just praying that they wouldn't have to use the potions on each other. After the first lesson though, he was pretty sure that's what Culloden had in mind. Zander regretfully reached over to grab the unicorn horn and grated up half of it just like he was told. Yep, he wouldn't make up his own directions because that did not go well the first time. There would be no yelling at Zander this lesson, Professor!

Oh. Well yeah, that made more sense, she supposed. Sticking to the emotional; she'd have to keep that in mind as the lesson progressed. Wouldn't be too hard after that whole history lesson they just got. Ugh. This class better had not have been one of those because Lex wasn't in the mood for too many words right about now. She did listen though. The potion almost reminded her of Veritaserum, 'cept that one made you tell the truth. This one just made you feel guilty...? But...what?

Guilt? That was a result of regret yeah? Something the Gryffindor didn't have. She thought all her actions were justified.

Was the Professor giving them looks at the mention of making people cry? Nothing wrong with that so long as you'd gifted them with the truth. They'd get over it eventually and might end up a better person for it. Merlin this was going to be an interesting potion. There wasn't a thing she could feel guilty about...nothing that was coming to mind at the moment...

Nope, so she'd just scribble down the steps.

Lex turned to the grater and cast a quick "Scourgify." to begin with/ Had to make sure it was nice and clean. Hopefully Dima was looking and remembered or maybe he already remembered that everything was meant to be cleaned before use. There was always that small hope.

Then she began grating the half of the unicorn horn that she'd been given.

Yeah, her intentions of commenting on what the other Sophie had said hadn't been entirely pure and innocent, and certainly Culloden knew that, but at least he didn't give her away by giving her any knowing sort of looks. He was playing it cool, and she appreciated that - and she also appreciated Vesper chiming in. Good on you, Ves. Grinning as she was referred to as "S.B.," Sophie didn't look at all surprised that the professor was agreeing with her. Obviously he was. And then when he told the other Sophie which kind of laws he meant - ha! Made her look dumb, didn't they?

Was everyone paying attention? Did they see who the superior third year Sophie was? Made them think twice about their previous life choices? Hm? Yeah, she showed them.

As Culloden got into the pre-potion making lecture, she scooted her parchment and self-inking quill in front of her, taking notes as he spoke and not even noticing the potion he gave to Slytherin Sophie. It was interesting to hear all this history and insight to its former uses, but the potion itself was kind of... disheartening. She didn't want to be made to feel guilty, assuming he was going to have them try it. She rarely experienced guilt over anything, really, since she usually believed things happened for a reason and didn't always realize if she hurt anyone's feelings - it wasn't that she was careless, but she was... strongly opinionated and strong-willed and felt no regret for putting someone in their place. Heh. Oops.

She wondered how Culloden would react to the potion, then. Had he taken it before? She... didn't think he was a particularly guilty person, as they were a lot alike. He definitely had to take it with them. FOR SCIENCE.

With her workstation, materials, and utensils already cleaned, Sophie just had to move her parchment and quill aside once she was done writing the ingredients and used her wand to clean her hands and the tabletop in front of her again. And her gloves once more, while she was at it. No such thing as too clean. She set her wand aside and slid her gloves on, eyeing the ingredients she had written down as she did so. Hippogriff feathers? That was a cool ingredient. But the Fwooper voice chords? THAT... was something else. She'd never heard of that used in a potion before. Sort of cool, but... strange. Very strange.

Sifting through her potions kit, Sophie picked out a unicorn horn and marveled at it for a second. For all her materials, she tried not to peek at them too much when she bought them, for she wanted them to be as untouched as possible before using them - but now she thought it was cool to be holding half a unicorn horn. She certainly knew the value of it. Another one of those ingredients to be super careful with, just like the dragon's heart from the last class. Though... maybe not QUITE as valuable as the dragon heart. But. Still an expensive ingredient that she knew better than to mess with, so she was careful to measure out and grate half of it into her bowl with as much precision as possible, even though she was cringing a little at the sound it made. NO MISTAKES HERE.

Was there a more clever, cunning or sneaky Professor than Cosgrach Culloden? Cutty felt like his tiny and deficient heart might burst for the man as he'd given him at least four years worth of useful confessions. And they hadn't even hit the half-way mark for the potion they were brewing yet. The man was a genius. I mean there he was, laying out credit for whomsoever confessed his or her ideas on what constituted as manipulation and ways in which it might be achieved according to his or her own imagination. Brilliant.

He took a moment, a frail-looking smile upon his face, to write down the ingredients to the potion and before systematically beginning the scourgification of the following items: 2 stirring sticks, a cauldron, the grater, a bowl, and his mortar and pestle as well as a cutting knife. He left his items alone, but not unattended as he fetched the unicorn horn. He'd never held one of them before and took a moment to note what he thought of as a glass-like feeling. Almost like a tooth. It must've been a gush of silver to see two of these creatures duke it out in the wild.

It was kind of a loud substance to grate as it made a little Zhizza-Zhizza-Zhizza-Zizz sound when Cutty dragged it across the grater, which he'd positioned below the bowl.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

The look of hostility in the Professor's eyes when they looked at each other did have an effect on him. The Gryffindor lowered his gaze towards his desk for a moment and tried not to look like he was uncomfortable. As the man began to walk around the class while speaking, Kevin looked up in curiousity when he saw that in the corner of his eyes that he gave a vial to an older Slytherin student and craned his neck to see what it was. He couldn't see anything though.

Wait, so they were going to brew a potion that would make people confess what they were guilty of AND would even make them feel guilty about things they hadn't done? WHY did he have the feeling this potion was targeted towards people like him? He hoped they didn't have to try it out. He wasn't sure if he liked this potion but it would be amusing to see how others reacted to it hehe.

The second year grabbed his wand and scourgified everything clean before he got a bicorn horn and began to grate it in to a clean bowl.

Were they going to be testing the potion they were making? It was illegal, after all. Hayden really had no idea what to expect but honestly she wouldn't be all that surprised if they were going to be tasting the potion. She'd learned to expect the unexpected at Hogwarts.

Hayden took out all the ingredients she needed. Then she inspected her cauldron very carefully to make sure it was clean, even though she had no idea how it would have gotten dirty. Luckily it hadn't so she was able to get right to work without cleaning it first like several people were. (Speaking of which, Hayden took a mental note of the spell they were using.) Next she took out all the equipment she needed and made sure that was all clean before grating half a unicorn horn.

Constant Vigilance! O_O AWAKE!

Kate was way too busy scribbling down notes to answer any of Culloden's questions, not that she knew any of the answers anyway. After copying down the ingredients list for the Cabeza de…er, the scapegoat potion, Kate peeked around at the other students. They were using a spell to…clean their cauldrons. Kate didn't want to risk using that spell. She peeked into her cauldron. Yup, it looked nice and clean. Mostly. And all her other materials looked like they were in tip-top shape, too.

So Kate got out a grater. And half a unicorn horn, and a bowl. Grate the unicorn horn, Culloden had said. Kate pursed her lips and eyed the grater. It better be a heavy duty thing to be able to grate a horn. Still, how different could it be from grating cheese?

Kate held the half unicorn horn in one hand and the grater in the other and began grating…sort of. She shuddered on the first go. Not only did the unicorn horn against the grater make a horrible sort of sound…she could feel it making the horrible sort of sound. If only they just had to grate cheese…

Bracing herself for the prolonged grating sound and the feeling of the grating sound, Kate got busy grating the unicorn horn half.

He didn't know any potions that could be used to manipulate others, nor did he possess hands quick enough to make note of all those that were mentioned. Dima listened to the professor's explanation of the potion they were learning TODAY, though! Sort of. Meaning he ignored all the history stuff and wrote down the name and what it did and all the ingredients. But that was good enough, right?

The first year almost forgot that he was supposed to clean things before he used them, too, but he drew his wand upon seeing Lex perform the spell. Yeah! He could DO that charm now! Was professor potion-sharing-man watching? Dima had kept his promise and stuff!

"Scourgify!" Drawing the funny squiggle shape above the grater, he watched in awe as all the little dust spots disappeared. So COOL.

Next came... horn grating. Did that hurt the unicorn? Was whatever creature that the horn in his kit had come from still okay? The kid was about to protest, but he knew that taking tail hairs didn't hurt the things... maybe horn extraction didn't either? Choosing to just stay quiet, Dima performed the Scouring Charm on his knife and sliced his horn in two with a little bit of difficulty.

But grating! That was the FUN part! Eagerly, he shoved up his half-horn against the grater and worked away. He was an EXPERT at this.
