Angel had been hoping something cool would happen but at least the guy was being very quiet now and was happy about that because she didn't want more points lost. She was aiming to win the house cup because apparently that was something cool. Angel looked at the Professor as she listened to what he had to say about what to do next. She added one drop of doxy venom. It immediately started to smoke and then Angel waited for it to stop smoking before she waved her wand over it, she hoped that the potion was nearly done because she wanted to get out of this lesson, things were going wrong. |
Beverly was now scowling at her cauldron. There was nothing wrong it, of course not! Her potion brewing skills were top notch. The pinching of her eyebrows and pursing of lips were all signs of annoyance, and that's what she was. Beverly Wayne was ANNOYED. Were moods contagious? Huffing, she glanced up at the board and scribbled down the next step. As a precaution, she took a step back when adding the doxy venom. Just a small step, enough to make a run for it if anything went wrong. She liked her face, thank you very much. When the solution began to smoke, the girl raised her wand and waited for the smoke to dissipate. She wrinkled her nose. Nope. It didn't smell like fresh spring grass or raspberries. Nope, nope. She ended the step with a wave of her wand once the potion stopped smoking. Were they almooost done? The girl needed food in her system. |
Fortunately the yelling had stopped, and now that Gryffindor Girl had melted her cauldron. LOL. As terrible that was, the girl didn't seem to mind in the least; so it was cool for Lux to be amused by it even if the Professor wasn't. Looked as if it was time for the Doxy Venom to be added... and more wand waving? Raising her brow, Lux added this to her notes: SPOILER!!: Lux's Notes Carefully adding one drop of the venom, she watched as it started to smoke in her cauldron. It was actually pretty cool because she had never made a potion that smoked before. Holding her wand at the ready, she waited the few seconds for the air to clear again. Given the Professor's state of mood now, she really didn't want to give him reason to vanish her potion, and she didn't want to have to start all over again from the 5th step. Almost lazily, she added in the wand wave. Step done and ready to be crossed off: SPOILER!!: Lux's Notes All that was left for her to add now was the frog leg... EWWW. |

Then he was on to the next. Benny found the fwooper parts, glad not to have to hear them and added them to his potion as well. When that was done, the Gryffindor exchanged his grip on the stirer with his wand once more, giving it a wave as directed. |
Yay they were almost done the potion, only a few more steps to go… or at least he thinks so. The next step was up on the board and Bay quickly wrote them down. Quote:
Seeing that it stopped smoking he took out his wand again and waved it. Looks like theres only one more step to go and so far Bay felt that his potion looked great. crossing yet again another step he watched some of the other cauldrons to see if any smoke was coming out. Quote:

Doxy venom. This sounded like a contradiction. No really, it did. What were Doxies? Biting fairies? Fairies with sharp teeth, basically. Meaning that they weren't even that dangerous, unless you happen to get yourself bitten. And then there was venom. Anything with venom seemed to equal dangerous in the boy's mind and he LIKED that. Contradiction. Whatever. Grayson reached over for his dropper and gave it a magical clean before squirting up some of the so-called venom. He then bent down until his eyes were level with the top of his cauldron and held the dropper with the venom inside over his cauldron. Squeeeeeeeeeeeze and in went that one drop. Only one. When he was done, he straightened up and placed the dropper off to one side. Then there was smoke. SMOKE. Unfortunately, there was no FIYAH. Shame. Regardless, his face broke into a smirk as he took out his wand. The not-so-enthusiastic professor said something about it smoking if it went well. MAN, he loved Potions. Once a few seconds were over and the smoke had cleared up, Grayson waved his wand again. Text Cut: Journal |
They were almost done? Another good thing. Just a couple of more steps now that he was all caught up. Doxy venom....yuck. Annoying creatures. "Scourgify," he cast on his dropper before using it to suck up what he needed. Benny carefully added it to the brewing potion, smoke suddenly developing. A bit faster than he expected by Professor Culloden's warning. He coughed in response before lifting his wand once more to give it another wave. |
Text Cut: TGO, Z, Kevin Naturally, Sophie wanted to see how Zahra's potion problem would turn out, and when Culloden vanished the potion and the cauldron had started melting at the base, Soph snorted out laughter. Toooooo funny. Then the girl even took it well - she didn't get irrationally mad at Culloden for her own mistakes. She just... let it happen. Soph had to admit, that was kind of cool of her. With a gloved hand, Sophie filled her clean dropper with doxy venom and was careful to just let a single drop fall down into the potion, then set the dropper aside in its bottle as smoke rose from the cauldron. She wanted to blow at it to get the smoke to go away, but she resisted, letting it do it all on its own - and when the smoke did subside, she waved her wand over the cauldron as instructed. So far so good - how were Tobes and Kyroh doing? Soph turned to observe them for a moment, and as she did, she caught sight of Kevin's sign. She shot a glance to Culloden then, and without much further thought, she slid her other glove onto her hand and carried her little dropper bottle of doxy venom over to Kevin's workstation. "Here, y'can use a drop of mine, if y'want," she offered lazily. Sure, the kid was a disrespectful little brat, but clearly he'd learned his lesson, yeah? It was a peace offering of sorts and a gesture to demonstrate to everyone that Gryffindors and Ravenclaws could totally get along. But... why wasn't he talking? |
Lucy was tired..she listened the instructions of the Professor.. She added one drop of doxy venom and the potion started to smok.. After a few seconds she waved her wand when the potion stopped smoking.. Done!!! |
Text Cut: Zahra and Kevin He smiled at the class - they were probably confused about this sudden change, but it was perfectly in order! He'd taught that Kevin well. So clapped his hands once and said "Last step: Add the frog leg and whisper a motivational quote or an inspirational person's name. The potion will turn dark grey and it should sit completely still even if you shook it. That's it." Class ended!? Yesssss. Quote:
Oh, the fun. "It will smoke briefly when added into a drink - any drink, unless it's another potion - but once the smoke dissipates, the drink will just and taste just the same. "So how it works is as follows: I brewed the potion, and gave it to, say, Donald. Donald is a weak willed person, but he's also a good fella, so he helps his friend at class. But I'm mean so I go tell him: 'What did you help him for, Donald?' Donald starts to worry what he did was wrong, and he feels guilty. Yes, a weak willed person can and probably will feel guilty even if they did the best thing on Earth. So, anyone can make Donald feel guilty, but my words will be more effective on him, because I brewed the potion." He looked at them all (except Kevin and Zahra). His previous happiness was almost restored. "There isn't any class activity for today, so you are dismissed if you are done with brewing. Those that have a question may ask me now, I'll be here for a while. Homework will be announced soon - save a vial for it. Thank you for your contribution." OOC: I will leave the thread open for another 24 hours for you to catch up/finish brewing etc. You may RP your characters out if you are done. Thanks for participating! :) |
Catching Up DRAMA was happening, but Hayden did her best to tune it all out because she didn't know anyone involved. Except the Hufflepuff prefect spoke up, THREATENING to hit people. Hayden was not surprised by that. After all, she'd threatened to lock first years in cages. But that was irrelevant, and Hayden was getting distracted from her potion. See, that was why she wanted to tune out the drama. Hayden turned back to the potion. What color was it. She'd been more focused on what she was supposed to add than what color it was. But this time she peered over the edge of the cauldron and looked at the potion inside. Bright white. Yep, that was an accurate description. It looked like milk. Time for the next step. She took the glumbumble parts and dropped them in her cauldron. But, you know, gently. So the potion wouldn't splash. She didn't know what would happen, but it probably wouldn't be good. She picked up the wooden stirrer from before - she didn't have to clean it if the only thing on it was the same potion she was going to put it in, right? - and stirred her potion five times clockwise. When she was done with that Hayden searched for the fwooper voice cords. What was a Fwooper? Whatever. She just knew what it's voice cords looked like, and she added them to the potion. Potions was so confusing, and she was dying to know why it made sense. Hayden picked up her wand again and waved it over the top of the cauldron. Really? She just have to wave it? Like, back and forth a couple times? And then she was done? Why? SPOILER!!: Directions |
Catching up- Last 2 steps Norah looked through her ingredients until she spotted a small vial labeled Doxy Venom. Aha! She picked it up gingerly, exercising an impressive amount of caution to ensure it didn't slip from between her fingers, and added a drop to her cauldron. Well, she thought her precision was impressive, anyhow. She waited until the smoke from her potion clouded her vision before giving her wand a wave so it all disappeared. With a grin, she put her wand back in her bag to wait for more instructions. It still got her every time just how cool it was that she could actually do magic. Well some magic, anyway. Uh...was the professor okay? One second he was doing that whole glare and yell thing, making wands fly across the room, and now he was smiling triumphantly and asking the class to whisper inspirational quotes to their cauldrons? She didn't know Professor Culloden well or anything but that didn't really seem like normal behavior. With a shrug, Norah turned back to her cauldron and added a frog leg as instructed, leaning over to whisper "C'mon potion! You're awesome. TOTALLY awesome." It wasn't very profound, but it was the best she could think of. Picking up her quill again, Norah copied down the notes Culloden had added to the board. Cool, cool. Very cool. She wished her little brothers were here so she could slip some of the potion into their drinks and sit back as the admitted all the stuff they had stolen from her room. Heh. |
Culloden was all smiley again? What? This man was all angry and hair-pulley-outy just a few moments ago. What was going on? This was quite the lesson. If he thought potions was confusing before, now it was way weird. Zander picked up the frog leg (ew) and practically threw it into the cauldron because frogs are slimy and gross and ew frog legs. See if it was a leg of yummy chicken things would've been different. Because chicken is yummy, but frogs are ew. And the next set of instructions were really strange? Whisper a motivational quote? "No one will want to be friends with you, if you don't clean your room!" that was his best. His mother always told him that and it most definitely inspired Zander to go clean his room right away. That's motivation for you right there. The potion went from the white color that it was previously into a nice dark gray. Ah, this looked right? Then he took out a vial and filled it with his potion. This would be for later. He then tried to clean his station the best he could, and decided that he'd better leave now before Culloden decided to stop smiling again. "Bye Professor," and with that the third year disappeared into the corridor. |
Finally they were on the last step. It felt pretty good. But way to many instructions. Maybe that is why he did not enjoy or try to cook anything besides pasta. Nigel picked up the frog leg and dropped it into his potion. Now the hard part. Who can pick an inspirational person off the top of their heads. Well Nigel did not know if the guy he was thinking of was relevant to anyone who did not know surfing. But whatever "Kelly Slater". Nigel whispered over his cauldron. He was inspirational to Nigel at least. The effects of the potion were pretty interesting. So it was similar to One of the Three Unforgivable. Interesting that was. All that matter was your mental strength. Please don't tell me the homework is try this one someone. That would be awkward and maybe funny. But more awkward. Well Class was finally over. Nigel took a vial of his potion for saving. Since Prof wanted them to and packed up all his things. Ready to Leave. "Bye Professor" |
*missed lesson but whatever* Marisol smiled. This had been interesting, although she had totally failed. Yeah, Potions was not her strength. She was now sure of it, but she didn't care in the least. As long as she tried it was something. "Goodbye, Professor," Mari waved. Cue her exit, and...go! |
Yay, they were down to the last step. Almost finished. Jasmine wrote the final step in her notebook and took some additional notes as the Profeaaor continued speaking. Now it was time to wrap things up. Finding her frog's leg, Jasmine was ready to add it to the potion. That would be easy. The hard part was the next step. She had so many motivational quotes that she liked, it would be very hard to pick a favorite. After giving it some thought, Jas decided that she couldn't possibly choose just one. However, choosing an inspirational person was not hard at all. Dropping her frog's leg into the cauldron, Jasmine whispered, "Cristoffer" so no one else could hear. Watching her potion, Jasmine was relieved when it turned dark grey as she had hoped it would. She took a vial from her potions kit and filled it with the potion. Jasmine was leery about what they would have to do with the potion. She hoped that they didn't have to do anything crazy like test it on some unknowing victim for homework. Finally, Jasmine gave her work station a last cleaning. Glad that she had completed everything, Jasmine packed up her things and prepared to leave. On the way out, she said, "Thank you Professor" as she passed him. It had been a very interesting lesson indeed. She headed toward the door to wait for Cris. |
LAST ingredient and then, if all went according to plan, he'd be able to give this to someone. Make them spill everything. Oh this was going to be FUN. Smirking slightly, Grayson took the frog leg and added it into his potion. That was the easy and simple part over and done with. The next bit? He had to whisper a motivational quote and how many of those did he know? Approximately zero. Couldn't he make up some mumbo jumbo about being good and manipulative or whatever? The other option was whispering the name of an inspirational person and he knew exactly whose name he was going to whisper to his potion. Clearing his throat, the fourteen year old leant close to his potion and whispered, "Grayson Douglas Whitlock." ...................... He was dead inspirational, mkay? When that was done, he straightened up again and scribbled down some last bits and bobs about the potion. Because this was important. Uh huh. When he had done that, he grabbed a vial and cleaned it magically before scooping up a good amount of the potion. He wanted plenty of this bad boy for the piece of homework, something he was looking forward to doing, by the way. Once the vial was corked, he packed up his things; the potions things were carefully placed in his bag while his journal and writing equipment were unceremoniously dumped in there. Grayson swung his bag over his shoulder, grabbed the vial and headed for the door. "Bye Professor!" And off he went! Text Cut: Journal |
Jumping up from his seat for what seemed about the millionth time, Adi grabbed the frog's leg and dropped it into his cauldron. A motivational quote? Er...he couldn't think of any right now but he did think of an inspirational person. Adi leaned close to his potion and whispered, "Benjamin Atreyu.'' Yep, even though they weren't friends at the moment, he still thought the boy was motivational. All done! He made notes on whatever else Culloden was saying before cleaning up his workstation as well as retrieving some of the potion for his vial. Without wasting any time, Adi exited the classroom, waving to Culloden on his way out. |
Professor? Cris was keeping watch over his cauldron when Professor Culloden launched into his next set of instructions, as well as, an explanation of what the potion would look like once it was brewed and its eventual uses. WoW! so much useful information! Wanting to make sure that he had everything his Potions Master had said, down on paper, Cris picked up his quill and began writing down in his journal as fast as he could. Text Cut: Cris' Journal With everything written down, Cris placed his quill back down in its inkwell before turning to his Potion Making Kit and extracting a frog leg from its container. Before he dropped it in, he began thinking of someone who inspired him every day. Slowly dropping the frog leg into his cauldron, Cris leaned over it and whispered over the potion, "The Doctor," smiling as he did so. Yes even though The Doctor was a fictional character, Cris still found him inspirational. The things he did for mankind were truly astounding and so unselfish. He watched as the potion's color turned a dark shade of grey. Mission Accomplished. With that done, it was time for him to collect a vial of his potion. He pulled out an empty vial from his kit and along with a wooden spoon, he magically cleaned both with his wand, saying, "Scourgify." Picking up his wooden spoon, he dipped it into his cauldron and scooped up some potion, slowly pouring it into his vial. Filling it up to the brim, he then placed the stopper over the vial and placed the vial in his pocket. Then he thought of a question. Raising his hand, Cris asked, "Professor why are we using a motivational quote or the name of someone who inspires us to invoke the effects of this potion?" "I mean it would make sense if the potion was used to make someone feel better or do something good. But if for some really bad reason, someone uses it to manipulate another for the wrong reasons, wouldn't it serve to have a depressing quote or mention the name of someone really bad?" Was that a dumb question to ask? Cris hoped not. He just wanted to know why one and not the other. While he waited for the Professor to reply, he proceeded to clean up. Arranging all the items he had used for this lesson, Cris began magically cleaning them one by one and when they were all thoroughly cleaned, he next turned to his workstation and did the same. Once everything was cleaned, Cris ended the cleaning spell, and holstered his wand. Packing everything back into his potions kit, Cris closed it shut. Placing his journal and writing materials into his backpack and slung that over his shoulder. Carrying his Potions kit in one hand, Cris made his way over to Professor Culloden. "Thank you again for another interesting lesson, Professor," Cris thanked his Potions Master with a smile on his face. "I hope that the rest of your day will be a more relaxing one, Cris wished him before walking over to join Jasmine who was waiting for him. |
Alright so after all his stirring he did, he needed to add a drop of doxy venom. He got out his venom and dropped one drop into the cauldron. After a few seconds he realized it was really smoking! He needed to wait until it stopped. He waited and then once it simmered down, he waved his wand like the professor instructed. So now he needed to add a frogs leg? Hmm interesting. But first he needed to think of a motivational quote or an inspirational person's name. He thought about it and once he had one he got a hand on the frog's leg. He dropped it in and then he whispered the motivational quote..."Just do it..." and then he noticed the potion turn dark grey. He did it! With a satisfied smile he breathed a sigh of relief. He needed to clean up his desk. It was filthy. He said, "Scourgify!" and then it was cleaned. The professor said they didn't have the copy the homework since he was gonna post it. He got out his vial and put his potion in it for homework purposes. After all the and made sure his station was all clean, he smiled and told the professor, "Thanks Professor! The class was interesting!" And off he went. |
Catching up! Yeah, how were they supposed to brew a potion when all this was going on? When there was a show, Cassia liked to sit back and watch. She could then only manage simple tasks, such as eating popcorn which she felt the need for now, but brewing a potion was a hard thing to manage while such interesting events were taking place. Of course that was no excuse and she had to focus on the potion making and try to not be distracted by all the other things. Which wasn't hard. Those people were amusing. Especially that Gryffindor kiddo. Though, she was glad that the snakes were behaving, she didn't have to get involved. Totes, what did she have to do with all of this. Anyway, where was she again ? Right. To add the unicorn horn they grated earlier. Where did she put that again ? err... Yeah she knew where, somewhere on the table. Duh. Her hand hovered over all the ingredients searching for the horn for a couple of minutes then she finally found it. Phew. And added. Next came the wand move, Cassia drew her wand and drew a right-pointing arrow as instructed. Her eyes stayed fixed on the potion expectantly. She would be really sad if it didn't white like it's supposed to. And it did! She felt like she wanted to throw her fist in the air celebratory but she probably should look all cool and indifferent. Nbd, she brewed potions correctly all the time. Which wasn't wrong, but it still wasn't a reason to not be happy about it. Though, they weren't even done, so why the dork moves. Instead, she reached for the glumbumble parts and added them slowly before taking the stirrer and starting stirring. Clockwise. One, two..........fiiiive. She counted off in her mind then set the stirrer aside. And did the professor just say, fwooper voice chords ? Well, Ew. That sounded disgusting though she tried to not look like it. She was a grown-up who didn't wrinkle her nose at potions ingredients. Except she really wanted to but did not! She was being professional. How cool. Now where were those chords, oh here they were. FAST the snake added them and was glad it had ended. Wave their wand? Okay, didn't make sense but did everything? Drawing an arrow, really? She better not start questioning steps now, that boat had long sailed. Venom now, wasn't it? As long as they didn't need to drink it, she was absolutely fine. And that reminded her of hers and Lex's spider. She missed the pet. She really did. And she made a mental note to owl her brother to ask him, since he was the guardian for now. As for now, one drop of doxy venom was added. Instinctively she stepped back when the smoke appeared, though the professor didn't warn of it negatively meaning it wasn't harmful. And once it was gone she waved her wand once again. Because they needed to end with something really weird, the frog's leg was right here to be added. Cassia dangled it before her face for a bit before dropping it into the cauldron. All done. Now it was DONE! Hold that thought, she needed to come up with something to say! Hmm.. That was a bit tough not because she couldn't come up with anything motivational to say but because she couldn't think of only one thing. She was a talker, okay? But it seemed she had to sum it up, she could work on that. The seventeen year old paused for a while before coming up with something to say. It would be better if she chose a name which was not easier. Hmm, whom to choose. "Ingvar," She was surprised herself by the name that came out of her mouth but she found that it somewhat made sense. Few would understand that though.. Oh, and now they were done! Cassia looked triumphantly over her cauldron. And while doing so she filled a vial of the potion and slid it into her bag. Then cleaned her working station and returned everything that she used as well as cleaned it. All good! "Have a good day professor," she said to the man on her way out. |
Last step then. Toby added the frog leg, just like that, and bent over the surface of his potion. But... what should he say? No motivational quotes were coming to mind right now, though Toby knew there were loads he could use. There was a loooooooooooong pause where he didn't say anything, before the Hufflepuff finally murmured a very familiar name into the potion. But very very very quietly. So nobody else could hear him. As Culloden said, the potion went all dark and stuff. Tobias quickly noted down everything else and started packing his things away, but he was super quiet once again. Something told him that he was going to really not have fun with this homework. He tried his best not to look at Culloden at all, and instead focused on seeing if Kyroh was alright or if he needed any help. Maybe they could leave class together; it was good having the bubbly little kid around, see? |
After he had plopped in the fwooper voice chords, he waved his wand over it like he was suppose to. Now, to add the venom. Declan lowered himself until he had the cauldron at eye level. Onneeee droooppp...plop! Phew. He set down the venom to avoid doing anything else with it like that one kid who spilled it. Oooh, smoke. *GAWK*Aww, no more smoke. That meant he had to wave his wand again. And so he did. Boom. Now, they were at the last step. Awesome. Class should be almost over then. Add the frog leg and....what?! Whisper a motivational quote or person to cauldron?? Do we also have to give it a pep talk?? Okay.... The seventeen year-old threw in the frog leg and leaned in close to the cauldron. He made shifty eyes and whispered, "Samantha Irving." No one important. Maybe to him, but no one famous or historical. Just someone he used to know. THERE. Hopefully, that counted. SPOILER!!: Notes! He nudged the cauldron. The potion didn't even ripple. Freaky. Dec bottled up a vial for later and cleaned up after himself. He was curious to see what the outcome of this will be. The Hufflepuff grabbed his book bag and headed towards to the door, looking back over his shoulder to wave goodbye to the professor. |
And Dima SPOILER!!: Step 9 This class was really doing a number on the Professor wasn't it? She could remember him being all smiles--which she'd found creepy but much preferred to whatever funk he'd fallen into now. Not even half a smirk. Pity. Lex added the single drop of venom and watched it smoke for a while like he said it would. At some point the thought came that it might never stop and she'd have to start over after getting so far but before that thought could get very far she saw the smoke begin to clear up and the Gryffindor was relieved. Nothing had gone wrong and she could continue. Alexa picked up her wand and gave it another wave before catching a whispered question from Dima, one that had her briefly looking to Kevin before the faintest of smirks spread across her face. "Langlock. It's just a jinx, doesn't hurt but it shut him up nicely. Should have cast silencio though but I haven't quite perfected the non-verbal for that one yet." Why'd he ask? Did he want a go from the spell as well? She'd be happy to oblige but she'd advise him against it first. Give him time to change his mind. SPOILER!!: Step 10 and question Op! The final step! They'd finally gotten here and there might not have been anyone more eager than Lex to add the frog leg and be done with it. At the moment she couldn't really think of anything motivational, nope, no phrases coming to mind but that didn't matter. They were allowed names of inspirational people too. It didn't take all that terribly long for her to come up with a name but it was a tough and close decision. Why couldn't they have more than one. "Alice Fischer." And this meant she was officially done now yes? Alexa quickly got her station cleared away and scourgify-ed as she saw fit. She could wait for Dima to be done she guessed, besides, she had a question. "Professor? Did you want me leaving him like that?" She asked, nodding toward the still langlock-ed Gryffindor. In truth she'd have left him like that til the spell wore off but if the Professor would have rathered him speaking again now that the class was over....... SPOILER!!: Parchment |
Caleb couldn't help but grin. He loved when the other houses got points taken away from them. Hehehe. It made it easier for Slytherin to catch up! Speaking of catching up...yeah, he had to do that still. So he had to add the unicorn horn..done. That was easy. Now to draw an arrow with his wand...he took it in his hand and drew an arrow pointing towards the right, as instructed. That wasn't hard! Onto the next step! |
