Professor Culloden is welcoming you by the door again with an eager smile. Only after greeting him can you enter the classroom. The soft, calming blue walls welcome you for this term's earliest lesson. I hope you are well awake, because the chairs with soft cushions, charmed to take the most comfortable shape and height once a student is seated won't help you stay awake. By the door of the potions store room stands one big, grey rubbish bin and a white, porcelain washbasin with a tap for those who wants to wash their hands before/after the class and who can't perform 'Aguamenti' charm.
When you turn your eyes to the blackboard, you see an ENORMOUS magical picture that depicts a grinning Professor Culloden. That's not the peculiar thing about it, though, but that he's lifting a hatcback muggle car over his head as he's doing step aerobics.
What a show-off.
OOC: If you are going to RP your characer use the washbasin or the washbasin, you don't have to take Cosgrach's permission. Just assume he has granted it.
The lesson is in progress, so don't post your characters arriving late! Just act as if they have been there all along.
Potion progress
• 2 kilograms of dragon heart (a few grams more/less doesn’t matter)
• 1 pomegranate
• A cup of re’em blood
• One mature salamander’s blood
• 2 unicorn tail hairs
• Powdered griffin claw
• 2 snake fangs
1. Add 2 litres of water and the unicorn tail hairs one by one
2. Turn the heat to high and add the dragon heart
3. Wait until it boils and add pomegranate
4. Turn the heater to medium and wait for five minutes. In the meantime, mix re’em and salamander blood in a bowl and stir them five times clockwise and five times counter clockwise and crush griffin claw (doesn't have to be a perfect powder - just crush as well as you can withOUT magic).
5. Add the blood mixture slowly and THEN, the powdered griffin claw IMMEDIATELY.
6. Wait for ten minutes and add one snake fang
7. Put the fire out and add the other snake fang
8. Stir counter clockwise once
9. Drink a cup of the potion in one go, while still hot
Notes
- Tastes like metal
- Good for anaemia or lack of iron
- Do not drink more for longer duration, but rather drink another cup after you feel it’s wearing off. If you drink more than a cup, it will make you feel too dizzy to stand straight.
- To conserve for a week after brewing, add a cup of ice from pure water
- The colour is bright yellow
- For the first few minutes after drinking, sit and let your body and muscles adjust to it. Once you feel fresh, go around being super strong, and don't worry: you can control it.
- You can omit the heart part by adding a glass of water, counting to 18 and adding pomegranate. You can also not mix Re’em blood at all and add another pomegranate instead, but this will reduce the effect to one tenth.
Activity
Wrist-wrestling with a friend or getting two chances at High Striker. You should post twice until Friday 19.00 GMT/14.00 EST. Please see the OOC note of my post that explains the activity.
Admiratrice des Maraudeurs | C-Rizzle | THE Best Snuggler
Marigold was TOTALLY into this class. Like, ew, blood, but mixing stuff was a generally therapeutic experience. She took her bowl of blood and when ready poured it gradually into her cauldron. She then quickly grabbed the griffin powder and put it in quickly. Once that had been done and she had the time to do so, she wrinkled her nose. She considered blood pretty and all that, but... Still gross. Things could be pretty and gross at the same time, in her opinion.
For the next ten minutes, she wrote down notes and drew dots on her left hand with her quill. Over the summer she had become acquainted with the art of body drawing, and she wasn't leaving that practice any time soon. Once the ten minutes were up, she carefully dropped a snake fang in. Not the fang, that was interesting. She was fine with bones, but fluids and organs were not her strong suit.
She turned the heat off, then in plop went the other snake fang. She stirred it counterclockwise once, then she was done! Hearing the professor explain the activity, she craned her neck for a partner.
"Anyone?" she called. "Partners?"

He was walking among them and smiling at whoever caught his gaze (though he was careful not to pass by Kevin. He didn't want to smile at Kevin.). Right.
He reached the back wall of the class and leaned on it. Then he waved his wand at the blackboard and it updated itself:

I'll post again 6 hours later.

Wait for ten minutes? There wasn't really anything for him to do except clean his station, but Culloden probably wouldn't appreciate it if he lifted up the whole thing and dumped it in the washbasin. Which he could DO because he was SUPER STRONG. Grrr.
So it was time for help again.
Mikey wasn't around anymore and Grayson was allll the way over there, and the Gryffindor Prefect would most likely be cross again if he didn't ask her. Plus she was right next to him! Easy peasy. Maybe he'd be hard to teach and she'd just do the cleaning FOR him.
"Hey Lex? Can you show me how to clean my station?" Pause. "Please?"

There we go, no more of that sensitive stuff. Good. She could live with this and could convince herself the kid wasn't so bad, like she'd done back when he walked into the class and called the man 'Collarbin'. Good times. Lex tried focusing again on the Professor only to hear they'd have to be waiting TEN MINUTES before they could do anything else. Was this his way of trying to get them to clean up? If she could guess the potion was coming to its end and they'd have to be doing that anyway.
Eh. Might as well while she had nothing better to do.
"Scourgify." She cast a couple times to make sure everything on the table got some cleaning. Couldn't leave anything not cleaned, it'd only give Collarbin more ammunition and she felt she'd done good skirting detention so far...maybe.
Just as she organized the last of everything she used into a neat section of her desk she heard Dima ASKING HER. Lookit that, he was a fast learner. Lex approved.
"Sure thing. What you wanna do is make an 'S', like this," She said, drawing one with her wand so he could see. "Don't make it too exaggerated, it has to be just right, then you try the incantation 'Scourgify' while aiming at the things you want clean." That was simple enough, yeah? "Go on, give it a try." While she waited on this ten minutes to be up.

"Pick that snake fang up," he said threateningly calmly as he pointed at the fang by Beverly, "and wait for me outside, please. I haven't decided yet, and if you are correct, after all," he snorted - he clearly doubted that, "you will get your chance to finish the potion. I don't want to hear any whining. Now if you don't mind, I'll deal with responsible people." He eyed them all, and walked away to the blackboard.
"CLASS!" His voice was on edge, but he tried to contain his anger, "put the fire out, add the other snake fang and stir once counter clockwise. You should have been able to see all the contents inside your potion up until now, but once you carry out these two steps, it will thicken and turn bright yellow. Then we drink it." He eyed the boy to see if he was out yet. He also waved at the blackboard to add the new and last two steps.
"Now, the potion will last for 12-14 hours. You will feel it's leaving you, so that it gives you a chance to stop doing whatever you are to save your life." He looked into a few eyes, and he looked calmer.
"Drink a cup, and one cup only. To have a longer effect, drink another cup when its effect is gone, instead of drinking more. If you drink more than enough, you will be dizzy. Too dizzy." So dizzy they wouldn't be able to stand. Clear? Clear. Good.
"After drinking, sit down for a few minutes for your body to adjust. Then, once you feel fresh, you can go around being super strong. You will have a perfect sense and control of your strength, so don't worry while handling things."
He smiled again. "There are different types of strength potions, and this one is the strongest. You don't have to add the heart and the Re'em blood, but then the effect will be reduced to one tenth. You have to brew slightly differently then, which will show up on the blackboard soon." He paused and thought if he forgot to mention something...
"Oh. One last thing. Or two." Two, yes. "To conserve it for a week, which you should do for homework, take a cup to drink now and add a cube of ice into the cauldron. After a week, I'm afraid it will lose the effect quickly." Shrug. "And most importantly perhaps, drink in one go, while still hot.
"That's all for now. Go finish your potions and put aside a cup. Don't drink yours, but drink from someone else's cup, and either wrist-wrestle with a friend, or try to break a record in this muggle toy I'll bring in a moment."
He walked inside the small store room again and magically moved a High Striker inside the class. He put it in front of the blackboard, and grinned at them.
"It's really easy! You'll try to ring the bell at the top, here," he touched with his finger to show them, "by hitting the lever here hard enough. You'll get two chances with this toy. The ones that hits the lever will get a treat. Also, those who beat their friends at wrist wrestling." He grinned at them again. "Don't worry. The High Striker's enchanted, so it won't break.
"Are there any questions?"
OOC: To get full credit from this activity, you must post twice. The deadline is Friday 19.00 GMT/14.00 EST.
You don't have to keep track of who drank from who's cup, so as not to drink from that person's potion: That part is purely IC and won't affect your points if no one drinks your cup. There is one thing that Cosgrach didn't mention, however - that how well the griffin claw was crushed determines the strength that potion will give. So, rate how well your character crushed the claw on a scale of 1-10, but don't say it until someone asks to drink your potion. Then, PM/IM that person for others not to see it to keep it fair. During the activity, though, the bigger number doesn't automatically win: Please also consider your character's normal body AND mental strength, as those DO come into play as well. During posting for the activity, please add the rating of that potion in the title part so that your friend and I can see how strong that potion is.
So what am I trying to say? I'll grade this part by how realistic and creative you are playing. Now, have fun with super strength!
.......Aaaaand it was rounding up to be about that 10 minutes. Time hadn't dragged quite like she'd thought it would. Maybe it was helping Dima and getting her own station cleaned. It could hardly have been anything else. Lex reached for one of the snake fangs and added it to the solution like the Professor had said. She had been a bit sidetracked though and ended up having to check the board for the rest of the instructions.
After putting the fire out she grabbed the other snake fang and dropped it into the cauldron as well. Don't ask her why turning the fire off made all that much a difference with the second fang, it was probably in a book somewhere she'd never find.
Lex quickly scourgify-ed her wooden spoon then gave the potion one--exactly one--stir in a clockwise motion. There. That should have...been it....Potions Professor say whaaaaat??
They'd have to be trying out each other's potions? She hated saying it but she agreed with Odessa. The only brewing she trusted was her own. Oh dear sweet Merlin. Lex glanced over at Dima. What if he wanted her tasting his potion and she dropped dead?? Yeah.........there was a problem.

Zander nodded his head and held up the cup. It looked like pee. What if Professor Culloden was really just making all of them drink pee. That's totally something he'd do. Just to get revenge on everyone for making the lesson so difficult. But either way if drinking the potion meant getting good marks, then here goes nothing! Okay. 1.....2....3!
EW. Maybe it actually was pee. Zander had never drunken pee of course, but he imagined that that's what it would taste like. It was a little tangy and there was a strange after taste, but it was over in a matter of seconds. "How long until it kicks in?" AND THERE IT WAS. After a minute his eyes shot open in response to the new burst of energy he felt. "Woah. I feel really good!" He felt invincible! "Yeah I'm totally ready!" This new energy must've also come along with a sudden burst of confidence that hadn't seemed to be present before.

"okay so were supposed to arm wrestle right??" he was feeling so great he was kind of forgetting what they were supposed to be doing… Bay plopped his elbow up on the desk with his hand open waiting for Zander to take his hand so they can arm wrestle.

Ingredients for Strength Potion 1. 2 kilograms of dragon heart (a few grams more/less doesn’t matter)
2. 1 pomegranate
3. A cup of re’em blood
4. One mature salamander’s blood
5. 2 unicorn tail hairs
6. Powdered griffin claw
7. 2 snake fangs
Steps to make Strength Potion 1. Clean cauldron and measuring cup
2. Add 2 litres of water and the unicorn tail hairs
3. Light burner and turn heat to high
4. Measure out Dragon heart and add to cauldron
5. Wait until water boils, then add pomegranate
6. Turn the heater to medium and wait for five minutes.
7. Clean mixing bowl, cup, stirring spoon, mortar and pestle
8. While waiting, collect one cupful of re'em blood
9. Mix re’em and salamander blood in a bowl
10. Stir them five times clockwise and five times counter clockwise
11. Crush griffin claw
12. Add blood mixture slowly into cauldron
13. Immediately add crushed claw
14. Wait for 10 minutes
15. Add one snake fang.
16. Put out fire.
17. Add the other snake fang
18. Stir counter clockwise once
19. Clear mixture will thicken and turn bright yellow
Turning the burner off, Cris added the second snake fang gently into the mixture. Then he picked up his cleaned metal stirring spoon and stirred the mixture once counter clockwise. Then he peered inside the cauldron and with abated breath watched the potion change in texture in color.
First the mixture began to thicken as it changed from a clear, liquid to a murky color before turning a bright yellow. Releasing a sigh of relief, he picked up his cleaned cup and scooped a cupful of the potion into it. Placing it on the workstation, he then magically froze a cube of ice which he popped into the remainder of the potion in the cauldron.
Now that was done, Cris looked around for someone he could swap potions with. Glancing over at Jasmine, he walked over to her and offered his cup to her. "Would you like to swap drinking potions?" Cris asked his friend.
Jasmine smiled when she saw Cris walking her way, cup in hand. "Of couse I'll trade potions with you", she said. Jasmine was secretly relieved to swap with someone she trusted. Taking the cup from Cris' hands, Jasmine passed the cup containing her potion to him in return. Trying not to think about what the it contained, she jokingly raised the cup and said, "Cheers" Putting the cup to her lips, Jasmine started to drink the potion. As she expected, it did not taste good. It was like drinking liquid aluminum foil, but Jasmine drained the cup as quickly as she could. "That was pretty foul", she declared. "I wish I had a pumpkin juice chaser."
After drinking the potion, Jasmine sat down to give herself a moment to adjust. She felt a little weird, but not dizzy. After a moment, the feeling started to subside and Jasmine was anxious to see how strong she had become. For now though, she just waited to see how Cris made out with her potion.

That was the end of the heat! He then took his last snake fang and tossed it into his potion. As Culloden was showing them that muggle strength test thingie, he finished up the potion by taking his wand and stirring it counter clockwise, just the one time. With that all done, he quickly jotted down the extra notes that Culloden had put on the board before taking his scoop and separating out two cups - one for whoever was doing the potion with him, and one for later.
Oh, and the ice cube! Can't forget that! He grabbed it and plopped it in the right cup. There, NOW he was ready!

Meanwhile, Sophie got back to her brew, which was nearly done. She put out her fire, added the other snake fang, and then stirred once counter-clockwise. She waited and watched her potion until it turned thick and bright yellow. WOOT! She scooped up a cup of her potion and set it off to the side. Then she collected another cup and set it aside, as well. She'd take the professor's advice and add in that ice cube, too!
Okay, sooo...what now?! ... OH!!!
"CALEB!" Sophie called out. "Wanna arm wrestle me? I bet I can WIN!" She collected her potion and began strolling over to her brother's work station. "Tell me, how would you feel about losing to a girl?"

An 'S'. Dima could do that. He wiggled his wand about in a somewhat shapely 'S' form. Was that too exaggerated? Too... un-exaggerated? Just right? It just looked like an 'S', not something describable, so he just moved on to saying the incantation. "Scourgify." Scourgify. Scouuurgify.
"Scourgify!" As he said the incantation, the first year pointed his wand at his mortar and wiggled his wand about again.

Oh. Ten minutes were up? He dropped in a fang, then eyed his fire.
How... did you stop a spell?
Somewhat deflated, he took his glass bowl and headed to the washbasin again. AGAIN. The kid filled it with a small amount of water, then brought it back to his burner and dipped his fingers into the liquid. He sprinkled it over the flames until they died out, and the burner was relatively dry still.

Once done with his scribbling, Dima dropped his quill and listened to the professor's instructions again. They had to DRINK it? And worse, someone else's? He glanced at the contents of his cauldron again, suddenly feeling sick. It was one think to use dragon hearts and creature bloods in his brewing, since they had already been taken and all... but DRINKING it would just make him feel worse. It was worse.
Nope. He wasn't doing it.
But after how Culloden had yelled at Kyroh, he wasn't eager to challenge his directions. Dima instead glanced at Lex again. They would be partners, right? He hoped she wasn't exceptionally good at potions or anything, because then his lack of exemplary strength would DEFINITELY be noticed.
... but he wasn't gonna drink that. Nuh-uh. Sorry, professor man.
Could they make potions with flowers next time?

But waiting 10 minutes WAS easy. Or at least it wasn't hard, and Mo set his watch again and turned that very intent gaze on watching Cat work and checking in occasionally on Kyroh. Cat was pretty, and Kyroh needed attention. Easy as.
When the ten minutes was up, Mo dropped that nearly-last ingredient, the snake fang, right into the cauldron and waited until they were instructed to move on. It was easy to put out the magical flame he'd created, and then Mo dropped the second snake fang into the cauldron. Which way was he meant to stir it? COUNTERclockwise. Mo stirred one time and then waited with bated breath for the potion to turn yellow.
It did, and he was mostly a genius. Only had to have his work banished once. Mo cleaned his cup with a Scourgify and scooped out a cup-full of the thick, bright yellow liquid, making a face as he caught a whiff of it. Merlin, that was going to be gross.

Hmm. That needed more thought. So... waiting ten minutes. Riiight. Cat tapped her fingers against the others and tilted her head to look at Mo beside her. "Hey. Hi. How's it going?" Hehehe. Hey boyfriend. Hey.
Chatty chatty with the boyfriend and cleaning up things made ten minutes pass easily enough and Cat finally added one of the snake fangs. That was it? Just add it in? No mixing? Alright. She got all sorts of distracted at all the drama that was happening across the room. What.... boys. Boys were pains more often then they weren't. She knew it, she had four brothers at home. But since it had nothing to do with herself, Cat was not going to bother with it and instead, she watched her cauldron for a while and then craned her neck to look at Mo's.
Oh! Now there was something else to do. Firstly, put out the fire. That was easy enough. She considered asking Mo if he wanted to put it out since he had lit it, but she figured that she'd just do it on her own. So after she put out the flame, she added the other snake fang and stirred the cauldron once counter clockwise. Cat watched the contents of the cauldron and, luckily, as the professor said, it thickened up (which was actually pretty gross) and turned yellow. Well, at least that meant she'd done everything correctly, yes? Now came the part she'd been least looking forward to. Drinking the potion. Sure, super strength was a cool thing, yeah, but she didn't quite like thinking about drinking something she'd put heart and blood in. Ick. She carefully took out a cupful of the potion and added the ice cube into the remainder in the cauldron as directed. Now she needed to decide if she wanted to wrestle or try her hand at that toy thingy. Hmmm.
"Girlfriend," Mo grinned at her as he dropped ice into the remnant of his potion, just as she'd just done. "Your potion looks perfect. We should be partners, don't you think? You can test mine, and I'll test yours." And they were both the right color and smelled awful.

AJ didn't know how she felt about drinking someone else's, but what choice did she really have? She was going to drink that potion no matter what it took.
The first year turned off the fire and added another snake fang, and stirred counter clockwise just once. She was wondering if that would really be enough, but apparently it was because before no time it was changing to the exact shade the professor told them it should be.
WOOT! They were actually going to give the potion a go and see how strong they were. "YAY!" she exclaimed before she could control it. Who was she going to switch potions with? No need to think on that too hard because her friend Adi was already making his way to her. She have him a warm smile. "You betcha!" She had a feeling that Adi's potion was done right, and that she had nothing to worry about. "Sounds fun. Let's do this!" Game face was on.
Awesome! AJ was just as excited as Adi was! Though he was still disappointed they couldn't try their own potion. Oh well. "I hoped you brewed yours right, AJ,'' he teased. "This won't poison me, right?'' He winked and set down his cup on her workstation and grabbed her cupful.
"Cheers,'' the Puffer said, raising the cup. He drank deeply and immediately gagged. Ugh! That metal taste! It was super horrible. With a look of disgust on his face, Adi slowly consumed the remainder of the potion. "All done, AJ. Your turn.'' And with that, he plopped down on the seat of AJ's workstation. He'd stand when he felt fresh, as the Professor said.

Okay, sooo...what now?! ... OH!!!
"CALEB!" Sophie called out. "Wanna arm wrestle me? I bet I can WIN!" She collected her potion and began strolling over to her brother's work station. "Tell me, how would you feel about losing to a girl?"
"Excuse you, I'LL be the one winning, thanks. Just because you're a girl doesn't mean I'm going easy on you!" Caleb said with a grin as he sister walked over. How funny, he had just been about to head over and challenge HER to an arm wrestling match. "After I cream you, let's try that muggle thing and see who gets the highest," he added with a grin.
He handed her the potion he'd brewed and took hers. "After you, sis," he said with a chuckle. This was gonna be funnnnn!

It only took a flick of Adrienne's wand and a dismissive, "Finite," for her to put out the flame that was still burning underneath her cauldron. Then she just had to drop in the other snake fang, which made a slight plop, and... yes, now she was nearly done! She gave the potion one quick counterclockwise stir, and marvelled at the fact that what had previously looked like a bunch of random objects floating in water was now one cohesive, gross-looking, nauseatingly yellow entity. She wrinkled her nose at the smell. Was she really going to have to drink that? And not even hers, which she was fairly sure about, but someone else's? Ugh.
Still, she "Scourgify!"-ed a cup and scooped up the liquid, which was much more viscous and even more disgusting than she'd anticipated.

Tracing her finger under Adrienne's words, Gwen read step two. Turn the heat to high and add the dragon heart."Incendio," she lit the fire under her cauldron and added in the dragon heart that Culloden had measured out for everyone.
"Oh, no problem at all!" Really, she was just curious as to why Gwen wasn't able to read what was on the board, but she wasn't going to pry. It was obviously something the girl was insecure about, and she didn't want to antagonise one of the few people she was actually still on good terms with. Even though she was really, really curious... Adrienne removed the temptation to ask by instead posing another question to the girl.
"You wanna be my partner? We can trade potions," she said, gesturing to each of their cauldrons, "and then wrist-wrestle, if you like." If not, then she was going to have to actually go find someone whom she trusted enough to ingest the potion of. And not to offend Tora, but she was somewhat wary of her friend, who could be a bit careless, making something that she then had to drink.

Cris smiled gratefully at Jasmine for agreeing to drink his potion. Of course, he could have tried to convince someone to swap potions with him, but he trusted Jasmine enough to know that she wouldn't have messed up while making her potion. He on the other hand...well that remained to be seen.
"Alright on the count of three. One...Two....three...bottoms up" Cris grinned at Jasmine, as he lifted her cup of potion to his lips and gulped down the potion in one sitting.
ECK!!!... the potion had a distinct metallic taste. One definitely couldn't confuse the taste of blood in the potion. Cris stayed seated in his chair as he waited for the potion to take effect. As he sat and waited, he examined his biceps. Had they grown more muscular? Were they larger? What about his stomach muscles and thighs? Cris discreetly lifted the bottom of his shirt to examine his tummy. Was his six pack more pronounced? Were his abs harder?
Cris flexed his biceps and then laughing, he looked over at Jasmine. "Do my biceps look tougher and more muscular? Can you feel them for me?" he asked her leaning over to allow her more access to his arms.
Then he realized that she had just drank his potion and quickly asked her,"What about you? Do you feel any different...stronger? Did my potion work?"
Then he chuckled,"I guess the only way we'll find out is to either wrist wrestle and play that muggle game? I'm open to either," Cris held up one wrist before gesturing over to the hammer pounding, bell ringing thingy.
Cris looked at Jasmine and felt bad. There was no way she was going to beat him at either options. The least he could do was try to even out the odds. "I tell you what, if you choose the hammer, I'll make it easier for you. I'll only use only my left hand to raise and hit the hammer," Cris showed Jasmine raising his left arm.
"If you decide to go with the wrist wrestling, I'll give you a five second head start," Cris raised up five fingers. Even with the handicap he had just given her, Cris suspected that Jasmine still would not be any match for him. Having developed strong upper body and leg muscle as a result of his rock climbing, running and mixed martial arts training, he already had that advantage over her.
Yes this would be a quick and easy win for him. The only thing he could do was look remorseful while he was winning.

His anger and impatience turned into worry as he frowned in a different way. "What's wrong?" he asked in a concerned tone, because if it was an ordinary sight problem, she would say 'Can I go closer?' or something, right? Certainly not 'Can I touch it?'
So he was worried. He didn't want anyone dying during his class, thank you very much.
...no.
Conscience, no. I don't care if he's just a little boy, no, I won't go to him and try to win him -
After he was done reprimanding those idiots and explaining the class what to do next, the first person he went to was this little boy.
"I didn't really mean that I don't like you. I mean, hope I'll do." He wasn't looking at his face, because he was still angry at him, but he was trying to speak to him, no? Because he was just a little boy thinking dragons were the BEST animals out there with all those boring heroism. It was probably Sophie that made Cosgrach this soft, and he was going to have a conversation with her too, but he couldn't help it: he didn't want this boy to leave the class heartbroken.
"And this is all for science. We need its body parts for ourselves, and the soil or whatever they do with dead dragons," he truly didn't know, "doesn't. So I'm sure the dragon, may he rest in peace, lived a long and full life, and we're going to be strong thanks to him!" AH! He should have chosen politics as a profession, really.
He looked into his eyes, then. All good? No hard feelings?
Well, how could his mood ever be too sour to glare at Sophie too? And what she asked was excellent question anyway, so he smiled at her.
"This is Hebridean Black," he said, "and it affects this potion too, but the change is very minor. This potion will make us strong for 14-15 hours, but a Hungarian Horntail would go as long as 17. And, for example, this type of heart will make us stronger than Common Welsh Green's would, but with a very little difference."
Was she satisfied with the answer?
...
But WHAT kind of a question was that?
"I don't," he retorted, "this is not the kitchen."
MERLIN! How did she end up in the honourable house of Slytherin?
If he was going to ignore Cosgrach, he was going to lose it: Cosgrach was BETTER than him at ignoring! So, when he saw it was HIM coming, he lifted his head (the arrogant look), and observed the ceiling.
No medals for you, Mr. Hirase.
And another good question.
Why couldn't all the first years be clever like her?
"For all those that you've listed," he said, "mainly for the taste, but also because it's healthy."
Smiles at her.
Y'know, just because he was sitting didn't mean he still didn't see what they were doing.
"You," he pointed, too lazy to get up, "err, Ms. Ferrier." This was better. "I hope that potion was boiling before you added the fruit."
Or else.
It wasn't voluntary, eh?
You know what - he wasn't going to let this affect his mood. He wasn't going to mourn over 2 kilograms of wasted heart. No, he was going to take a deep breath and think of wild daisies and green grass and things that didn't puke.
"Start over and add a glass of water instead of dragon heart at. that. step. Also, don't wait for it to boil. After counting to 18, add pomegranate."
He hoped, from his strained voice, that she understood this was her last chance today.
Don't ask HIM how he did it, but he caught these two.
"Alexa and... baby face, ah, Radley," he called out their names from where he was sitting at his desk, "are you sure your potions were boiling before you added the fruit?"
Because from where he sat, it looked like they were earning themselves a longer break by being thrown out of the class that instant.
Hmmm? His eyes surveyed the class for a short while before he saw who was speaking, and he relaxed. It was Caelen, one bright witch.
"Yes, it determines that," he said at her, "and, well, it depends how weak your body is, of course. But generally it lasts for 12-14 hours." If they brewed it correctly. His eyes surveyed the class restlessly.
Would they?
Cosgrach's eyes was so narrow one wondered how he even saw the kid. But from his point of view, he saw the kid and more: the kid's unsure voice, his anxiety and the wish to disappear. Y'know, Cosgrach could help with the last one? Making him disappear? Because honestly, right now he was just a waste of space.
"Because this is such a bright day, I'll give you another chance." He charmed the heart to go put itself in its box again. "You'll either learn to light a fire and measuring how much of it you need before adding the heart, or you can skip the heart part, add a glass of water instead and add the pomegranate without waiting for the potion to boil after counting to 18." Without waiting for his answer, he turned around and swiftly walked to the box of his precious heart. He had a tending to do, don't mind him.
Well, WORSE turn the heat down before YOUR PROFESSOR TELLS YOU TO.
BUT SERIOUSLY! Didn't these kids have a BRAIN? If yes, where was it? Why wasn't it working?
The moment the kid turned the heat down, Cosgrach made a choking sound and with a BANG!, the kid's heat was at the MAXIMUM again.
"Excuse me!" he roared, "which university did YOU finish?" Translation, did he know better than Cosgrach and he'd turned down the heat, or did he love the man so much that he was desperately trying to spend more time with him at the worst part of the dungeons?
"If I say 'high', I mean 'high'." End of discussion.
Could he even survive the class today?
And NOW they were meant to lower the heat.
After a few deep breaths to calm himself down, he pointedly ignored that boy (Zander) and addressed the rest of the class.
"Lower the heat to medium and wait for five minutes." He eyed them. "Five minutes only. If you don't have a watch, find someone with one." After having problems even with the simplest step, he felt the need to explain everything in detail. "And don't sat idly during that time. Clean a bowl. A cup. And a metal spoon," he eyed everyone again, including that boy (Zander), "C'mere, take a cup of re'em blood from the container I'll put on my desk in a moment, pour it into the bowl with salamander blood and stir them five times clockwise, five times counter clockwise. Once done, set the bowl aside and crush the griffin claw. It doesn't have to be perfectly powdered, just crush as well as you can. Use NO magic while crushing!"
CLEAR!? Could he speak slowly and clearly enough!?
Okay. He went ahead to update the blackboard and put the re'em container on his desk. Once he was done, he sat down at his chair again and watched them warily.
OOC: I won't post again until afternoon tomorrow (in GMT), so that is well more than 12 hours to catch up if you must&want. :3 It doesn't matter if it's one big post or several small posts.
Important OOC note: I'm sorry for not being clear when I first posted. He's hoping everyone will get those things done before time's up, and that's why he didn't tell them what to do after the five minutes. So, he'll tell them what to do BEFORE the time's up. Now, it's the safest to RP as the clock is still ticking.
Now, Mordaunt FOCUS.
Ethan sat up straight and took down notes as the potions master spat out his instructions. He is one grumpy one…and most probably a perfectionist too. So yes, Ethan needs to focus and get this potion right. This is, by the way his first potion brewing activity in Hogwarts…and he did promise the dragon—well, dragon’s heart, that he will not put his or her death in vain. So onto the FOURTH STEP! Woop! Woop!
Placing his quill down, Ethan lowered the heat to medium and waited for five minutes—keeping an eye on his classmate’s wristwatch. “Note to self—get a watch. No. Ask Dad to get me a watch.” What are father’s for, yeah? Seeing that he still got plenty of minutes to spare, he got himself a bowl, a cup, and a metal spoon. “Scourgify, scourgify, scourgify.” Clean. Clean. Clean. That Hufflepuff kid was right. This class demands a lot of sterilization! Ethan got his Salamander blood, and poured it in his bowl, after which he got up and made his way up front, and got himself a cup of Re’em blood. “Blood. Blood everywhere!” Ethan didn’t say a word to the professor as he eyed his cup of Re’em blood caaaarefully and slowly made his way back to his work station. He didn’t want to spill the precious liquid, you know? The young Slytherin took a deep breath and poured the contents of the cup into the bowl, then stirred it five times clockwise. “1…2…3…4…5.” Then counter clockwise. “5…4…3…2…1.”
Up next was the griffin claw. He cleaned his mortar and pestle, and dropped the griffin claw into the mortar, and crushed it with his pestle. “Cruuuuuushhhh youuuu…” Maybe he should start practising that line. He might find it useful once he drank the strength potion. Mhm. Good idea. Once he was done, he stopped crushing the griffin claw and waited for Culloden’s next instruction.
Tapping his fingers against his table, he eyed his classmate’s watch as it constantly ticked. “Almost there…Come on, five minutes…”

"Detention is when the professor wants to teach his student a lesson, because the student is pushing her luck, yeah?" Yeah? Not that he would, 1. he didn't want to spend more time than necessary with her, 2. he didn't want her to be in detention, because she was actually good and he was impressed with her 'E', 3. he BET the rest of the school, instead of disapproving her, would actually clap her for her courage.
So, trusting the cute little kid with the message he was told to deliver to Alexa, he smiled at her again and looked at someone else.
Let's see how well she copes with the pressure of a possible detention.
And then there was this type who couldn't handle the fame.
"Oh, get over it already," Cosgrach grumpily retorted, "and focus on the potion."
Yesplsthx. He didn't want any seventh years blowing cauldrons.
A good question. Cosgrach seemed to calm down a little.
"Yes, in this potion, crushing with and without makes a difference. If you crush with magic, it basically nullifies it." So you can't get everything done with magic. HEAR THIS, CHILDREN! "And wooden stirrers generally soak, but we don't want to waste any drop of blood at all. Almost in every potion, though, wooden or metal, or even the types of metal makes a change." Why did he think some cauldrons were much more expensive? Because they were more beautiful to the eye?
See, Cosgrach was actually impressed that the kid still held onto his idea, albeit it was an absurd one. And he was even more impressed that the kid took the initiative to move somewhere else. So, not to hold him, he didn't respond but nodded approvingly, and slowly moved around the students.
This kid...
Cosgrach didn't want to admit it, but he liked him.
Speaking of Tobias, Cosgrach grinned at the kid. What a decent lad! The Professor was perfectly cool with his helping, mhmm.
Only one of those titles were enough, -
...
Oh. OH!
See, Cosgrach liked kids like him MORE. Trying their best even though they were tried. Cosgrach was next to him the next moment and he looked at him concerned.
"That's okay. I mean, you don't have to add the heart, but it will reduce the effect of it. And the other ingredients, why not, I could add them while you're looking away." Or someone else. It didn't matter. What mattered was that, he wanted him to finish the potion too. "Or, do you have a better idea?" Cosgrach had never been hemophobic before, he didn't know what would help.
Ignore his ignorance.
She had more questions?
Alright, alright. Her questions actually calmed him down.
He actually smiled at her first question. She was right. He was going to explain it all in the end, but it was good to know someone wondered these things.
"I'll explain that once we're finished with brewing. Think you can wait that much?" It wasn't a request, actually. He was just being kind.
Oh.
Well.
"It's nothing to be ashamed of, hey," he said as he smiled encouragingly at her. All of his anger had vanished at that time. "And I'm sure -"we can find you someone eager to read out the steps. But before he could finish, Adrienne was there.
"Please help her, Adrienne," he said simply, nodded, and turned to leave the girls alone; because he was sure they could solve it by themselves? If not, he was there, anyway.
Yeah.
And just like that, Mo's bowl of blood was vanished.
"You stirred in the wrong order. First clockwise, then counter clockwise." And because he was such a bright student, "fill your cup again." But he wasn't that clever to get a third chance, and five minutes were nearly up...
He'd better hurry.
Hehehe, how funny it was when the students got all excited because they thought he was going to eat them -
Not funny, Cosgrach F. Culloden! They are students! You can't play with them like this.
Why don't you shut up, conscience?
"Don't let it happen again."
Yep.
...
"Well? Will you sit out all the five minutes? You've got work to do, GIRL! All those cleaning, stirring, crushing! Who do you think will make them for ya?" Hungry or not, she had to work FAST to get all those done in five minutes, or else.
...his efforts didn't go unnoticed, did he know? Every now and then, because Cosgrach was a great professor like that, he checked how the boy did, and he was thoroughly pleased with him and Mr. Branxton for helping him.
Yyyyep.
"ALRIGHT, TIME'S UP!" Cosgrach yelled to get all of their attention, "all the blood mixture sloooowly, and the claw AFTER the bloods immediately!"
Clear? EASY?
Ethan got startled as Culloden shouted.
Merlin, he shouts a lot! “He’d make a good Quidditch coach or something…” Ethan reigned his thoughts and did what the potions master told them to do. “This should be easy.” The Slytherin got the bowl of blood with his left hand…and the mortar with the crushed griffin claw on his right. He sloooooooooooowly poured the blood into his concoction until his bowl was empty, then immediately dumped the contents of the mortar in his cauldron. See? Easy.

Nope, there was one, right there. Looking all disgusted and, good gracious, covering her nose.
"Are there any problems?" Since his nose was pretty much insensitive to the odour in the room. This was his profession, after all. And he also didn't look at her cauldron. He wanted HER to speak.
Well, y'know, Cosgrach could do that for a student, especially since he'd shared his phobia with him and not with another student. He was wise enough to differentiate between 'need' and 'being spoilt' anyway, so it was no problem. The professor checked his watch (figured the kid was too nervous to remember that) and lowered the heat to medium. Walking to his desk with the boy's cup, he scourgified it and got some diluted Re'em blood. Then he returned, scourgified the bowl and metal spoon, and mixed the two type of bloods inside the bowl - turning his back to the boy in case he forgot and looked at him or something. With the spoon, he first stirred five times clockwise, and then five times counter clockwise. After that, with his back still to the kid, he eyed the arms of his watch to mark the five minutes.
"Get ready," he called to the boy, much calmer now, "because you must add the claw immediately after me." And also for, y'know, he was turning around so he should look away not to see the blood. After five more seconds (during which he'd fished out his wand again), he turned and slowly added the blood. Once the last drop was in, he quickly cleaned it non-verbally for him not to see any stain or something.
HAD HE ADDED THE CLAW YET?
Despite one minor problem there, everyone had done marvellously! SPLENDID! This certainly helped the man to calm down, and he even griiiinned at them.
Did they see how each it was, actually, to please him?
"Last three steps, and very easy ones," he announced again, too energetic to sit still now. He was walking among them and smiling at whoever caught his gaze (though he was careful not to pass by Kevin. He didn't want to smile at Kevin.). "Our sixth step is, waiting for ten minutes and adding one snake fang." Very, very easy, right?
Right.
He reached the back wall of the class and leaned on it. Then he waved his wand at the blackboard and it updated itself:
OOC: If you wish, you can post your character speaking to someone in these ten minutes. :3 You don't have to finish this step in one post. Just, as always, don't go overboard with posting and chatter. <3
I'll post again 6 hours later.
Even Culloden was pleased.
Ethan returned his grin as he passed by, then took down notes. “He is one moody man.” Ethan made a face as he wrote down the process on his notebook and scolded himself for getting distracted.
Ten minutes was a loooooooong time. So instead of keeping an eye on his classmate’s watch, Ethan sat on his chair and started to draw on his notebook. He drew himself, lifting a full grown dragon and amused himself to no end—oblivious to the commotion that was about to happen.
He did look up though when the Professor intervened the small group of Slytherins and a Gryffindor…and saw a snake fang on the ground. Ethan supressed a groan at the sight, and checked his classmate’s wristwatch again to see if the time is up.
And yes, ten minutes was up and he immediately added one snake fang to his potion.

"Pick that snake fang up," he said threateningly calmly as he pointed at the fang by Beverly, "and wait for me outside, please.

Aaaaand the professor was mad again.
Ethan sat up straight on his chair when Culloden called their attention and listened to his instructions. The Slytherin extinguished the flame, picked the other snake fang and dropped it in his cauldron, and stirred the contents counter-clockwise, once. Ooh. The contents was still there, all right—and the color of his potion turned bright yellow. Just like what the potions master said. Ethan suppressed a squeal of joy, and instead got his notebook and jotted down Culloden’s additional notes.
Interesting stuff!
Ohh. OOOOOh. They get to drink it? Oh yeaaaah!
Ethan got himself a cup of Strength Potion from his cauldron, then added an ice cube into the rest of his concoction.
So…who wants to try his potion of wonder?

Finishing up her potion according to the directions, Gwen was admittedly nervous about drinking someone else's potion. Not that she didn't trust everyone else, it was just, there were certain people she was sure couldn't make a potion to save their lives, and she didn't want to accidentally get poisoned.
Then Adrienne asked if Gwen wanted to trade potions with her. Adrienne was a fourth year. Her potion was probably the best offer Gwen was going to get. She glanced at her own thick yellow potion and nodded. "Yeah, okay. But if it's bad or something, I'm really sorry." It looked right, but that could just be a fluke. Just so that Adrienne understood that if something went wrong, it wasn't Gwen trying to poison her.
The second year cleaned a cup and scooped some of the steaming hot potion into it, offering it to Adrienne.

Waiting ten minutes? Oh he could do that. Picking up his wand again Kyroh pointed it at the bowl that the blood had been in. "Scourgify!" He said, the spell, surprisingly working on only his first try this time! Maybe soon he could do the spells and wouldn't even have to talk, yeah?
Moving over to the other items he began to clean everything so that when it was time to pack up everything was easy. As soon as he was finished he turned back to Mo, noticing the pretty girl sitting beside him for the first time. Kyroh waved at her, because why not? and looked over at the clock. TEN MINUTES!
Without hesitation he picked up one snake fang and dropped it in.
Grabbing his quill he started to write the new steps down in his notes. He had only just finished when the Professor started giving more instructions!
SPOILER!!: Kyroh's notes
Kyroh Scabior House: Gryffindor Year: First
Potion:Strength potion. Reason for potion: I have no clue but it makes you strong and you can lift stuff and old people in the ancient days used to use this because maybe their magic wasn't as strong or something. Also it helps you if you are anemic which means have blood problems.
Ingredients:
• 2 kilograms of dragon heart (a few grams more/less doesn’t matter)
• 1 pomegranate
• A cup of re’em blood
• One mature salamander’s blood
• 2 unicorn tail hairs
• Powdered griffin claw
• 2 snake fangs
Steps:
(First you clean your cauldron using Scourgify)
1. Add 2 litres of water (Aguamenti) and the unicorn tail hairs one by one
2. Light the burner (with fire spell - Incendio ), turn the heat to high and add the dragon heart
3. Wait until it boils and add pomegranate.
4. Turn the heater to medium and wait for five minutes. While you are waiting mix re’em and salamander blood in a bowl and stir them five times clockwise and five times counter clockwise and crush griffin claw (doesn't have to be a perfect powder - just crush as well as you can withOUT magic, which is easy cause I don't know the spell for crushing WITH magic).
5. Add the blood mixture slowly and THEN, the powdered griffin claw IMMEDIATELY. (Don't smell potion it smells terrible)
6. Wait for ten minutes.
7. Add one snake fang
8. Put out fire then add the second snake fang.
9. Stir counter clockwise once
10. YOU ARE DONE!
More about potion:
- Tastes like metal
- Don't drink more than one cup you will feel very dizzy.
- Can be saved for up to a week add a cup of ice from pure water
- Should be bright yellow
Waving his wand a bit the flame went out and Kyroh dropped the last snake fang into the cauldron. Grabbing his spoon he stirred it once, counterclockwise ANND THEN It was OFFICAL. Kyroh Scabior had finished his very FIRST potion. The first year beamed as he looked into the now yellow mixture.
As the Professor continued talking Kyroh knew he was being good. He was LISTENING and everything. He knew how long the potion would last, he knew what colour it should be, he knew EVERYTHING. He just didn't want to drink it.
Not his.
Not anyones.
He didn't even want to touch the dragon heart. And so why would he want to DRINK something that contained it?.........but then Culloden would probably hate him. Sure he could pretend like he had drank someones but that would be lying. And Kyroh didn't want to lie.
Questions?
Kyroh, sighed, completely put out, and looked over at Toby. Could Toby protect him now? "Do I have to sir?" He paused. "I know you'll probably say yes, but if you say yes i'm still not going to do it." It was the truth.

Well it looked like Cris survived drinking Jasmine's potion. Did she happen to spill a little cocky juice in there by mistake? Cris seemed to be awfully confident about his abilities. Let the trash talking begin. Jasmine laughed hard when Cris asked if his biceps looked more muscular. Was he flexing? And did he just invite her to feel them? If Jasmine's competitive streak hadn't reared its ugly head at that moment, she might have swooned at the thought. "You talk a lot of smack Strand. I could feel your biceps, but with my super strength I wouldn't want to hurt you". Wait did he just peek check his abs? Oh it was soooo on. Two could play that game. While sitting, Jasmine managed to stretch out her lean but muscular dancer's legs and examine them for any changes.
Jasmine was actually feeling stronger and rather confident herself. She didn't know how much was the potion and how much was her thought that she was stonger. Physical strength plus mental toughness plus plain old desire, Jasmine felt that she had a chance to take Cris down. "You underestimate me my friend. Don't let the small package fool you. I have a few tricks up my sleeve. Dancing isn't the only thing I do you know."
"I say we arm wrestle first and if we have time we can hit the hammer. Oh and by the way, I won't be needing any head starts. Let's get this show on the road."

Cris burst out laughing. He had to admit he had been sounding over confident and was glad to see that Jasmine wasn't falling for it. When she flashed her legs for him to see, Cris' breath caught in his throat. Not only were her legs muscular, they were also rather...um...sexy. Was it suddenly getting hot around here?
Reluctantly dragging his eyes away from Jasmine's legs, he looked up at her and grinned. "Have you always been that feisty? Or is that my potion talking?" he asked her teasingly. "Actually I believe, that big things come in small packages," he winked at her as he flexed his biceps in front of her again, his eyes brimming over with laughter.
"Wrist wrestle...arm wrestle. Okay let's do it, and if your hand isn't hurting too much we'll move on to the hammer," Cris nodded, as he placed one arm on the table and waited for Jasmine to lock wrists with him.

Right.
Ugggh, not finished yet.
And he had to wait a whole ten minutes this time? It was torture. Theodore rested his elbows on the desk and popped his head in both palms. And he just watched it. Doing its thang. His eyes may have been drooping a bit, too, but that was to be expected with such boring steps like this, right?
Once he had been waiting at least eight minutes, Theo's eyes flickered between his potion and his watch. Which was making the time go a whole lot slower. THERE - TEN MINUTES.
Theo sat up straight and rubbed his eyes til they were pretty red. Plop, in goes one snake fang.

Definitely Culloden's time of the month.
Theo made a subtle face at him, then put out his fire with no problem. Thank Merlin he was good at potions, it seemed like the people that sucked were getting a lot of stick today. He picked up his clean spoon with one hand, and the snake fang with another and stirred the potion counter clockwise right after throwing the fang into the brew. Bleugh, potion looked gross. He really did not want to drink it...
Yellow, yes. Disgusting.
The Slytherin cleaned his spoon and laid it on the table. He looked at everyone else, he looked at Culloden, and he looked at his potion. Procrastination, yay!!

Lily was starting to get nervous. First Professor Culloden had seemed like he wanted to hex everyone into submission, and now he was walking around smiling at everyone as if they were all perfect little students and he hadn’t been angry at all. That was enough to keep her on her toes, and yet there were also the last few steps of the potion to finish. She’d known there had been at least one step left, but apparently that was drawn out into three. Plus, there was waiting, so it was almost inevitable that she was just going to stay nervous. At least she had something to do while she waited for ten whole minutes, but writing the last steps into her journal, even adding another little note as he had given them more instructions after the potion brewing steps were done, hadn’t taken up hardly two of those minutes. She’d double-checked that with her watch, even. Only two minutes had past, and she still had eight to go before she could finish. Definitely nervous, and because of that, she’d reverted to her normal little habit when she was worried or nervous. She found herself humming softly to herself, not really one song or another. Just music, which kept her from checking the time every minute.
Soon enough, she checked her watch again and let out a breath she hadn’t known she’d been holding. Ten minutes, so now she could add the first snake fang. That was easy enough. It would have been difficult to mess up just dropping a fang into her cauldron. Although that simplicity was threatened as the professor had changed demeanor yet again, back to the yelling, and she’d jumped. Nearly dropping the fang, but luckily it had landed inside the cauldron. Okay then, she thought, glancing up at him before applying her attention back to her potion. The flame underneath was easily extinguished, and the second fang landed in the potion much more smoothly than the first. Quickly Scourgifying her stirrer, she slipped it into the potion and stirred it once counter-clockwise. At least it looked as she imagined it ought to have, but she still wasn’t really anxious to try it out. Drinking thick yellow liquids really weren’t her thing, unless it was lemon. This was definitely not lemon.
She Scourgified her cup again, along with a ladle, however, transferring some of said yellow liquid into the cup for someone to try. She slipped an ice cube into the remainder of her potion afterwards, and then set her journal safely aside before cleaning all of her tools aside from those still containing the potion. Now all that was left was finding someone who was willing to be her partner and test her potion, and her green eyes flickered around the room. “Does anyone want to test mine out?,” she asked, trying to sound more enthusiastic than she actually felt. She was going to still have to drink someone else’s potion, after all.

6. Wait for ten minutes and add one snake fang
7. Put the fire out and add the other snake fang
8. Stir counter clockwise once
-note: drink while hot, but add a cube of ice to conserve potion for a week. After a week, the effects will lessen quickly
Leah caught the professor's smile as he walked down the aisle and could not help but smile back. He seemed so happy that she had managed most of the instructions correctly. So ten minutes later, one snake fang was present inside the second year's potion. Ignoring the commotion that happened over the time, she turned her attention back to Professor Culloden.
Extinguishing the fire, Leah added the second snake fang in and scourgified the stirrer. Stir once anti-clockwise. Eeep, the potion was now yellow! Not as bright as others', but at least it was not a dull color either. Now tired of scourgifying, Leah muttered a scourgify at a cup and scooped her potion in it. That was when a much older girl looking for a partner. "Hi, I'd love to try your potion. Would you... like to test mine pretty please?" she asked nervously, approaching the girl with her cup in hand.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
When the ten minutes of waiting aka torture was over and he had added the snake fang, the second year Gryffindor put out the fire under the cauldron with a wave of his wand and immediately after he added the second fang. What now? He listened to the Professor, making sure not to look at him. If the man was going to play the ignore game then he could play as well. He scourgified the stirrer and made one counter-clockwise turn before cleaning it again and placing it down on his working space.
After he had turned the liquid it suddenly thickened and turned an ugly yellowish color. Kevin made a disgusting face and looked around. Were they really going to drink this? ewww. He still wanted to have super strenght though so he began to search for someone who didn't have a partner yet. But first he poured the potion in the cup. Okay, partner.... ugh he hated working with people. "PARTNER? ANYONE?" Anyone?
